you can check out part 1 here!
How many main characters are in your book?
…three? Two? I’m not sure how main a certain character will be. So a definite two. Perhaps more.
Are you like your main protagonist in any way?
Not really. I’ve had a bit of a similar experience of one aspect, but Matt’s main problem is something I’ve never had to face. I expect that made no sense at all. Simply put, I’m not much like Matt himself, but I know what a big part of his life is like.
And you’re both sarcastic, I’ve noticed…
Which character are you most like?
Alice, Matt’s annoying older sister. She’s a real freak, way weirdly smart (not that I am really smart—people just think I am) and she has great dress sense. And I’d like to have that.
If you were stuck on a desert island, which of your characters would you prefer to be with?
That’s a tough one. NOT Alice. She’d drive me mad. NOT Evangeline. We’d run each other off the island. Probably Matt. He’s sensible and smart, and he’d let me grump at him without getting very upset.
Do you have a villain? (If not, why?)
Villains are overrated. Everyone has a bad guy. So I tried not to. I was aiming for a perfectionist society, a doomed planet, and an inward struggle in the way of conflict. All that is fine, and I could have done it, but now as I go in for re-writing a draft that wasn’t finished, I’m adding a villain. Well, she’s not actually a villain. That implies pure badness. No, she is an extremely motherly type woman. (But she’s the kind who would beat up the other kid at the playground with the umbrella so her kid could have the slide. That sort of motherly.) She’s the human antagonist, anyway.
How do you name your characters? Do they name themselves or do you have to scour around looking for one?
Names! Ah, horror. Some come out and say, “Hi, my name’s _____!” Others to give me a hint. Or perhaps a hint does come. An A or an E. Big help, nameless one. Matt gave me his name. I’d never call a character Matt. But his parents called him that, so I didn’t get a say.
Have you ever found a picture that looks exactly like your characters?
Not exactly… I’ve got some ideas, and some similar ones. I’m sure if I had a pinterest I’d find them. But I don’t, so I won’t, and I haven’t.
And (okay, so maybe cait asked a lot of questions) look out for part 3!!
