The “creepy movie” was Machine Gun Preacher.
And it wasn’t that creepy, mime. 🙂
You know not watching a movie can be just as creepy as watching it? Or a book…skipping parts… it can be even worse than hearing it. Maybe.
I have one of those minds that tick overtime. Like I was upstairs, on the computer, while the others watched some kind of creepy slum-gang-and-gun movie. Hearing the creepy music, bullets banging. I get more creeped out just hearing it, and occasional glancing over. It’s like the less detatched you are, the worse it feels.
Kind of like… well, it’s more out-of-the-blue. Out of the blue surprises. It scares. Why? It’s unexpected. If you’re watching it, well, you can prempt when something’s going to happen… there’s just this feeling about it. But if you’re in the room and BANG, you hear something exploding… I turned my music up and listened to Safe and Sound (no ironies–it’s a nice song) and Something that I Want (because let’s face it, when the music is happy and loud, you can’t hear anything else.) Then I decided it’s bad for my ears. So I went down stairs. To the cold. Shiver.
I think if writers really want to disturb their readers, they need to make it unexpected, like the gunshots, but give it the same dread that the creepy music gives the scene. No wonder writer’s are so talented, because I think that sounds really hard.
FIVE MINUTES. Nuts. I could have kept going.
