There was a cruel stepmother, Baroness Rodmilla de Ghent .
There was a spoiled stepsister, Maugerite.
There was a prince, Henry.
And an artist, Leonardo da Vinci.
In My Opinion…
Company: 20th Century Fox
Movie Classification: PG
My Rating: 4 Stars
This is definitely an “everyone” movie. There can’t be anything that it lacks.
The acting — especially the stepmother, Rodmilla de Ghent — is excellent. Facial expressions, poise, everything. They were all brilliant actors.
The ladies’ costumes are beautiful. The movie is set in the Renaissance, and for the most part, it was greatly historical. There were two mistakes, I noticed. Firstly, I’m not sure “paper-rock-scissors” would have been invented back then. Secondly, the dye at the end would have been based on lye. To get it in the eyes would have been to go blind. (Minor detail. The scene was funny.)
There are plenty of laughs all through the film, and the soundtrack was very sweet. (The theme song actually reminded me of a hymn I know. I think of this movie every time I hear that song. Somewhat distracting, but moving on…)
Watch this movie — I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. It would be hard not to!
