My Rating: 2 Stars
I watched this movie with expectations of it being quite lame. And I wouldn’t contradict that statement after watching. Sure it was sort of funny, and there were a few places worth a half-grin.
The music, being drum-focused, was not my cup of tea in the least, and there were some seriously unrealistic things, for instance at the school play when an impromptu song was started, the school band was able to pick it right up — all of them, guitars, keyboards, drums — all in the same key, same notes, same time, on a song that was being made up on the spot. Go figure. Especially since they were not painting the school into a school of musical talent, but quite the opposite.
At the end I thought it was just not right how Fred’s father, after all that had happened, believed in the Easter bunny so easily after only seeing a carriage. He ought have had a thousand explanations, from the angle he should have seen it. So that was a little dodgy, too. The acting left a bit to be desired as well.
It’s not a completely stupid movie, and like I said, some parts were funny (though a few parts meant for laughs were a little inappropriate) and I wouldn’t say that it’s a “never-watch-this-movie-ever”, but I don’t think I’d rush out to watch it again.
Still, different tastes call for different opinions. Watch it for yourself and see what you think.
