The Back Alley Gallery…which is another way of saying please be creative and decorate our back streets!
Yep. These are professional graffitists (artists!), who kindly decorated some of our city’s back alleys in wild colours and zany designs. Pretty fun to watch. As long as you held your breath, because, well, the fumes could get potent.
It was a full out party down there! Rappers. Graffitists. Market stalls. Coffee vendors (in our city, there’s always a place to buy some coffee). And chocolate.
Let’s just say that if someone’s giving away free chocolate, you take it. Is there a wrong time for chocolate anyway?
|This is my nephew. Enjoying his chocolate sample. |
He’s knows baby-sign-language. He’s signing “more”.
They also had skateboarders whipping up and down temporary half-pipes and along rails. They were only small skateboarders, but they sure pulled off some neat tricks. That’s tough work! I know, from past experience, when I skateboarded and tried to stop myself going down a steep driveway…with my hands. It’s pretty to flip those little boards on wheels, if you ask me.
I held my nephew and we enjoyed watching the brilliance. Until my nephew noticed the sausage sizzle.
“Sausss?” he said. “Plea?”
Which to be interpreted by my trained ear means: “Those sausages smell really, really good, Auntie cait, can I please have one because, as you know, I haven’t eaten in ages (we’ve forgotten about that chocolate) and I’m starving.”

So basically it was a big market. And a festival. With sponsored graffitists. Amazing artwork. And a sausage sizzle. And chocolate.
A lot of fun!
