I recently read an article suggesting there be a Hunger Games theme park.
I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a horrible idea.
Have they even READ The Hunger Games series? Have they even stopped to consider what the themes are? Have they thought how this makes them look?
The Hunger Games is about how something horrific and violent and wrong is made into a reality TV show. The Capitol (the “antagonists”) covers up the horrific notion of killing children (the President’s punishment to the Districts for rebelling in the past) by making it a TV show. A game! It’s not real! It’s just a bit of fun!
The Hunger Games is about ignoring reality and making it a game in order to cope.
(That’s not all it’s about, of course, but that’s definitely in there.)
I know Lionsgate hasn’t set the theme-park idea in stone yet, but GOSH, do I hope they think about what message they’re sending.
The Hunger Games books aren’t like Harry Potter or The Avengers. It doesn’t deal with adventure and excitement. It deals with murder. There’s nothing funny about it.
I’m totally for jumping on the fangirl bandwagon. I have a Mockingjay necklace. I’m attempting to bleach a shirt into a Mockingjay (for the Catching Fire movie).
I squeal when I watch the movie trailers on Youtube. I love this series and I love that they’re movies.
But you shouldn’t make a thrill ride out of murdering kids.
I think President Snow would make a theme-park. I think the Capitol would push to make this series all glitter and baubles.
I think Cinna would cry in his grave.
Cait loved The Hunger Games before it was a movie. Very hipster of her, isn’t it? She anxiously awaits the release of Catching Fire in cinemas. She just hopes a human giraffe doesn’t sit in front of her and destroy her hopes and dreams. How loudly can you eat popcorn? She might experiment.
