I’m quite regally good about reading the books humans recommend me. I mean, obviously I can’t do what people want all the time, or I’ll lose my title as Nefarious Evil Overlord Of All. BUT. Sometimes I do slip up and am congenial. And often I’m forced to read the book anyway because the recommendations come quite passionately and violently. Let no one EVER tell you being a bookworm is a calm and safe pasttime. Gosh no. People throw books at you all the time. IT GETS DANGEROUS AROUND HERE.
SO! My list is going to be about books I’ve been quite fiercely recommended by fellow bookworms and bloggers and even relatives. Most have come tied with threats like “read this or I’ll force you to socialise for 900 years” or “read this or I’ll feed you to the hedgehogs”. SO I READ THEM, OKAY?!
This Week’s Prompt: Books I’m So Happy Were Recommended to Me
1. CINDER (RECOMMENDED BY MY SISTER)
Does anyone here remember my sister, Mime? Back when this blog was “Notebook Sisters” she and I co-blogged. She dumped me for high school (sheesh) BUT she and I used to read companionably and violently (I threw a book at her once…) She insisted I read Cinder. You know what? I INITIALLY HATED IT AND DNF’D IT. That’s right, my squidlings, I actually read one chapter and sent it back to the library. Gasp with me now! THE SHAME.
Mime totally loomed over me hissing, “You need to read this Cait, why haven’t you read it yet, just read it, you’ll like it, reeeead iiiiiit.” Basically noisy mosquito style.
I read. I loved it. I’m obsessed with The Lunar Chronicles now. BUT SHHHH. DON’T LET HER KNOW SHE WAS RIGHT AND I WAS WRONG.
2. TIGER LILY (RECOMMENDED BY ZOE)
Now, Zoe and I are bookish twins. WE BASICALLY AGREE 90% ON EVERY* BOOK. It’s seriously handy, by the way, because I just stalk her reviews to know what I should/shouldn’t bother with. So Zoe vigourously recommended me Tiger Lily. I think she threatened my life with death-by-spork if I didn’t read it? I’m sure she did. Zoe is awfully violent**. Anyway. She was, of course, completely right about how beautiful Tiger Lily is.
* Except for City of Bones! Zoe hates it! I love it! IT IS OUR ONE TWINNING FAILURE. But I’ll forgive her because I’m in a kind overlord-ish mood.
** PFFT. I LIE. SHE IS LIKE A CUDDLY WATERMELON.
3. BRUISER (RECOMMENDED BY AIMEE)
Okay, this is like a half recommendation. Aimee is ALWAYS after me to finish the Unwind series and read more Neal Shusterman. I’m pretty extra sure she threatened to feed me to the hedgehogs if I did not. SO. I thought, “Well, Unwind scared me half to death…surely Bruiser won’t be so terrifying?” AND IT WASN’T. It was sweet and heartbreaking and yeeeeeeah all this bad stuff happened — BUT NO ONE GOT THEIR BODIES TAKEN APART WHILE THEY WERE STILL ALIVE. So there’s a plus.
4. PERCY JACKSON AND THE HEROES OF OLYMPUS (RECOMMENDED BY…EVERYONE?)
I cheat, I have no idea who demanded I read the second Percy Jackson series. But I know many people told me to stop whingeing about the first series (I did like it, but didn’t love it) and just get off my dragon and go read these ones. SO I DID. I way preferred them. Leo is the most delightful little spark of burnt sandwiches whom I would like to protect forever.
5. A GAME OF THRONES (RECOMMENDED BY ENGIE)
This is an accurate reneactement of my conversation with Engie:
ME: I like books with food.
ENGIE: You should read A Game of Thrones because there’s LEMON CAKES.
ME: Oh…but…they’re so big….
ENGIE: JUST DO IT. LEMON CAKES.
ME: Okay.
6. MADE YOU UP (RECOMMENDED BY SHANNON)
I think a million people recommended me this one, too, because I was a big fan of Challenger Deep and Alice and the Fly (both books about schizophrenia). But I’m going to blame Shannon here because a) Shannon is wonderfully blameable, and b) I distinctly remember her saying I should read it. And “saying” is totally the same as “passionately throwing a book at my head”.
I interpret things very violently, apparently.
7. WICKED (RECOMMENDED BY ANOTHER SISTER)
I have a lot of sisters, okay?! Actually, I have 4 to be exact and they’re all seriously bossy. But I digress. This particularly sister knew I liked retellings and I don’t even know? Maaaaybe she took my “evil overlord” quips seriously and thought I’d like to aspire to be Elphaba. But least to say, Wicked and I…didn’t get along. I was way too bored. I’d say shhhh, don’t tell the sister, BUT. She doesn’t read my blog* so we’re safe.
* This would, of course, end up being the ONE TIME she reads it…
8. INK AND BONE (RECOMMENDED BY FAYE)
Oh so this is sort of cheating, because Faye didn’t actually specifically recommend it to ME. She recommended it to the universe. BUT I AM PART OF THE UNIVERSE. So there. Seriously, if you’re not convinced about this book go read her review. IT CONVINCED ME. It’s a book about books and the world is controlled by an evil library and Jess, the narrator, basically had a breakdown when he saw a book being destroyed. CAN I JUST SAY…THIS BOOK IS ME.
9. THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF CINNAMON GIRL (RECOMMENDED BY EMILY)
I can’t actually remember the reason but it came up in a tweet that I hadn’t partaken of this Cinnamon-ness. And Emily said “GET ONTO IT WHAT EVEN IS WRONG WITH YOU HERE” and so I did.
10. THE GAME OF LOVE AND DEATH (RECOMMENDED BY MYSELF…AND CHARNELL)
What?! Can’t I recommend books to myself?! BECAUSE I SAY THAT I CAN. I totally was longing wildly after this book for ages and Charnell confirmed that I needed it in my life ASAP. And basically?! IT IS THE BEST THING OF EVER. Death and Love are people. And it’s set in the 1940s about this unlikely romance between a poor white boy and a pilot black girl. It. is. extraordinary.
Which basically confirms that I give the BEST recommendations of ever. Have I ever lead any of you astray? Pfft. Of course not.
I’m pretty sure I read Throne of Glass because you told me to. I also read Tiger Lily because of you but I hated it 🙁
I stalk your Goodreads page for books to add to my TBR though because I’m creepy like that *intense smile*
I’ve already told you what I think you should read (The Savages/Monsters) so I shan’t force anymore on you.
Well, CLEARLY you have excellent taste and make good life decisions. *nods* TIGER LILY THO. <3 I want a million books about Peter Pan, tbh.
YEAH, MY RECOMMENDATIONS ARE A++++. Also, that photo of The Game of Love and Death = perfect. I love it. I REALLY HAVE TO READ IT BECAUSE…YOU SAID.
OF COURSE THEY ARE. YOU’RE TOO FABULOUS FOR WORDS, CLEARLY.
Cait, we have discussed this before. Hedgehogs are lovely and would not eat you. Unless you looked like a bowl of mealworms and then I guess they would. (True story: Dad feeds the hedgehogs in our garden at home, and when they finish a bowl of mealworms, they start hitting it with their paws until he comes out to give them more.)
My TTT is here and features my weird reading rituals!
OH I KNOW BUT C’MON. HAVE YOU KNOWN ME TO NOT BE DRAMATIC IN A POST?? I can’t help it now. IT’S JUST WHO I AM. Echidna’s are kinda scary though, and they’re like the Australian equivalent. I think.
Bruiser is a great book. I wasn’t sure at first, because it’s less action-focused than Shusterman’s other books, but it’s a solid read. I hope to start A Game of Thrones soon.
TTT(top ten books I wish I’d written): https://samwhitehousewriter.wordpress.com/2015/09/15/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-books-i-wish-id-written/
YES. I totally agree about Bruiser. I need to basically read ALL the Shusterman. Zomg, I am so behind. (I’ve only read 3 of his books so far. >_< Ahhh I hope you like GoT! I'm so curious to know what you think of it!
Great choice of topic! Glad to know you’re as much of a Lunartic as the rest of us despite that shaky first start. I suppose we can forgive you. 😉 I really need to read the Percy Jackson books and I’ve heard amazing things about The Game of Love and Death. There’s just so much to read. D:
YES. I am so so excited about Winter too right now. xD And I’ve even overtaken my sister in my enthusiasm. hehe. She hasn’t even read Fairest yet. IRONY.
CUDDLy WATERMELON?! Pshh, not so sure about that one. Let us take a moment for me to consider replacing all my stuffed toys with watermelons.
OH OH. I read Made You Up upon your boook flinging upon us. AND IT WAS GLORIOUS. I currently have like 24434 more books on my TBR bc honestly YOU’RE my fabulous book finder. Just so you know.
AW C’MON. CUDDLY WATERMELON IS A THING. I’M LIKE 99.9% SURE OF IT.
Oh I do know. *flips hair* It’s exhausting being so FABULOUS all of the time but I can’t help it. :’) AFJDSALJKLDS I’M SO GLAD YOU LOVED MADE YOU UP!! 😀
I loved Tiger Lily, it’s awesomeness totally took me by surprise!! I just read Me Before You, which I was expecting to be a pretty regular contemporary romance (not usually my thing) but it BLEW MY FLIPPING MIND!! I have never cried so much at a book before in my life – like full face contorted snotty sobbing. I. Was. Not. Okay. If you haven’t read it I recommend going into it, knowing as little as possible because most of the reviews around spoil all the sadness! Great idea for a list 😄😄
Okay THAT ABSOLUTELY SELLS ME ON ME BEFORE YOU THEN. XDxD I can be so hit or miss with contemporaries but blowing minds?!!? I NEED.
CAN I JUST SQUEAL RIGHT NOW BECAUSE YOU MENTIONED INK AND BONE HERE?!?!?! I am SO SO SO happy that you ended up loving this book as much as I did, Cait <3 <3 After reading, you were one of the people I immediately thought who would absolutely love to read this one and I think I was very, very right 😉
Do you happen to know of an other books like Ink and Bone?? TIME FOR YOU TO RECOMMEND ME ONE, MAYBE? 😉
YES YOU CAN SQUEAL AND THEN YOU CAN CONTINUE TO GIVE AWESOME RECOMMENDATIONS BECAUSE OMG WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT YOU. XDXD <3 And ohh Ink and Bone was SO my kind of book. :') I NEED THE NEXT BOOK ASAP THO. OMG. HOW CAN I SURVIVE THE WAIT?!?? Ohhh, I don't know anything like Ink and Bone. I WISH I DID. But The Game of Love and Death is INCREDIBLE and I just want to recommend that to everyone at the moment. :')
I was pressured into reading Cinder, too, by my daughter. I loved it. I just need to read Fairest now before Winter comes out. I own Ink and Bone and The Game of Love and Death. I think YOU just convinced me to read them both!
Fairest is equally incredible, I promise. XD I’ve actually overtaken my sister now. HAHA. And she’s the one who was so adamant I read it…IRONY. xD Oh oh oh I hope you do love TGOLAD when you try it. AFDJAKSLFD IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND SAD AND PERFECT.
OMG the cover is Ink and Bone US version is so beautiful, HOW DID I NOT KNOW OF THIS? Faye rec right, this book had the most amazing worldbuilding.
I need to read The Game of Love an Death, I love personifications of ideas so this book sounds BEAUTIFUL.
Tiger Lily also sounds too beautiful to be true? I really want to check it out, I love a slightly angsty retelling.
ALSO FOUR SISTERS? Omg, I only have female cousins and they already drive me a bit nutty XD You must all have unending patience XD
YES INK AND BONE IS 100000% BETTER IN HARDBACK. I literally hesitated buying it, because the paperback was staring at me for a few dollars cheaper and I’m like “but I could buy MORE books if I got that one….” BUT I COULDN’T DO IT. It’s just too beautiful and I needed to eat it. :’) Exactly no regrets. hehe
You would REALLY like Game of Love and Death!! Especially after your deathly post yesterday! 😀
Well it’s not TOO bad because 2 of my sisters live, like, in different states, and only 1 actually lives at home right now. but YEAH THEY’RE KINDA INTENSE AND BOSSY WHEN THEY’RE ALL TOGETHER.
Lemon cakes is an interesting way to recommend Game of Thrones. I’m still in the second book btw. I love it, I just need constant breaks from it heheh. I’ve read the first chapter of Ink & Bone and I didn’t seem like something I would like but you’re making me reconsider. Happy reading!
https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/09/15/a-little-glimpse-into-my-2015-favorites-top-ten-tuesday/
HA. It is now that I think about it. But come now, lemon cakes are a BIG DEAL. *hugs poor darling Sansa* I would like to kidnap her from the horrible GRRM and feed her lemon cakes and keep her safe for sure. *nods*
Somehow I can’t picture these people passionately throwing books. But maybe that’s just me.
I still need to read Bruiser and Tiger Lily and Made You Up and a couple of these others. Thus far people don’t usually threaten me with sporks, but I’ve heard fabulous things about all of these.
Okay, you’ve read most of my favorites. So I’m going with The Darkest Minds. READ IT NOW. Also, the rest of the Unwind series.
*Sigh* YEAH. You’re probably right. But I have a wild (violent?) imagination, okay?! I CAN’T HELP IT. although I have thrown a book a few times. One made me so made I literally threw it at the end of my bed. I threw it carefully though so it wouldn’t get wrecked. *nods*
I totally recommend all of these books. xD (Except Wicked, hehe) And I want to read Darkest Minds. I DO. It’s shelved as adult in my library though so I never remember to go look for it. Gah.
OMG YOU DIDN’T LIKE CINDER AT FIRST. IT’S MY ALL TIME FAAAAAV. Now that you are obsessed though can we give a moment for Prince Kai? I swoon for him ALL THE TIME and it was so embarassing to read and tell my friend about it because she was like “you have a problem.”
And also Ink and Bone? Just you raving about the book got me hooked! I never knew what the book was about other than the pretty cover. Totally gonna read it now that’s so interesting!
I KNOW!! IT’S SO SHAMEFUL. XD But I make up for it by being absolutely obsessed with the series now, right?!?!? And Cinder is a solid 5-stars because it’s EPIC. I was just so deluded when I DNF’d it. hehe. AND CAN WE HAVE A MOMENT FOR IKO. She is queen.
I freaking loved this! hahaha. I also have DNF’d Cinder the first time and the second time & I can’t push through it because I know I’ll love it, but it’s SO hard!
I haven’t read most of these on the list *hides*, but I’m planning to… TIGER LILY HAS BEEN ON MY TBR FOR SOO LONG, why don’t I get to it already?! I’m so weird, imagine having all the time in the world to read.. that would be amazing.. oops I’m going on a tangent hahaha, anyways, GREAT POST!♥
Ohhh, I hope you DO get back to Cinder eventually. XD If you’re anything like me you’ll be swallowed with adoration by the end. XD OR, YA KNOW, YOU MIGHT HATE IT AND COME AT ME WITH SPORKS AND ANGRY HEDGEHOGS SO. *gulps* Tiger Lily is 10000% worth it too, though. SO BEAUTIFUL. And Peter Pan. Nothing is better than Peter Pan.
I love this so much! And yes, Leo is such a babe. I adore him with all my heart and thank Riordan to the heavens and back for creating such a wonderful character!
Your blog is beautiful and I bow down to your overlord-iness!
Omg, thank you Josephine! 😀 I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKE IT!!! :DD And Leo is forever my FAVOURITE Riordan character. He is just the bestest thing of the universe and so adorable and I wanted to protect him and his flaming hyperactive cuteness. :’)
I read The Raven Boys because you kept fangirling about it. I picked up I’ll Give You The Sun because of your review, I read other reviews too but yours was more memorable (of course, Overlord). I think I’ve picked up / read a few books because of your recommendations, because we often have the same thoughts.
Oh, you also reminded me to finish off the Percy Jackson series a few weeks ago, and I downloaded and ate the fourth book in the 48 hours afterwards.
AHHHHH I CAN NEVER FANGIRL ABOUT THE RAVEN BOYS (OR ANYTHING BY STEIFVATER, TO BE HONEST) ENOUGH. AFJDKLSAFD THEY ARE THE BEST BOOKS IN THE UNIVERSE. *hyperventilates quietly in the background* My reviews are clearly supreme. *flips hair* I can’t help it. I’m just THAT great.
I think I read Divergent because of you. Also, YOU read Code Name Verity and The Book Thief because of me. You’re welcome.
OMG YES HOW COULD I FORGET THAT???! Although, um, can we take a moment and remember how PAINFUL those books were?!? Omg, Lydia. Are you trying to kill me.
You recommended everything Stiefvater to me. Also, I’ll Give You The Sun, which swallowed me whole.
Making a recommendation is tricky because you’ve read SO MANY of my favourite books (PJO/HoO/All Fall Down/The Scorpio Races…). You haven’t read The Gospel of Loki, have you? That’s definitely up there in my top 10. I literally couldn’t put it down.
I am so SO glad you got swallowed by I’ll Give You the Sun. It is literally THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PAINTY BOOK EVER. *dies loving it* I haven’t read The Gospel of Loki yet!! It’s VERY high on my need list, though. I TRUST YOU.
I still need to read ‘Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe’ (which I own and EVERYBODY has raved about) and the Percy Jackson series as my best friend keeps reminding me. Then again, I also can be a bit of a book pusher with some of my all-time faves, so what goes around comes around I guess?
That edition of Ink and Bone is STUNN-ING! I really should be putting that on my TBR *noted*.
Great post as always Cait 🙂
I will add to the shrieking then: READ ARI AND DANTE ZOMG IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING. Although I liked the second half a LOT more than the first half. xD The hardcover of Ink and Bone is just 9820989% better than the paperback, tbh. xD
You reccommended a whole lot of books to me. And they were mostly good ones. Like fish out of water and the unlikely hero… and the raven boys (which is beyond amazing, fyi) and so many more that I can’t remember. Your goodreads is an excellent thing to follow that makes me happy. I’ve read most of the things on this list, except george rr martin, Wicked, Love and Death and Bruiser. I’ve said it a million times. But read Sabriel. By Garth Nix. You might find the beginning slow, but you won’t regret it. And it’s an australian author. Also, if you want more historical fiction, you should try the montmaray journals by michelle cooper.
OF COURSE THE RAVEN BOYS IS BEYOND AMAZING BECAUSE A) IT’S BY MAGGIE STIEFVATER, AND B) I RECOMMENDED IT AND WHEN AM I EVER WRONG? (Shhh, don’t answer that. Just let me have my moment.) Ahhh, thank you. :’) Goodreads is life, right?! I’m forever stalking other people’s reviews. And I mean I have like 942802 books on my TBR already but there’s no such things as “too many books”, right?! I WILL READ SABRIEL I PROMISE. I want to find it on audio because of the potential slowness. (Slowness doesn’t even bother me if it’s audio for some reason.)
I’ll probably never read Game of thrones, cause it’s too long and not my thing and I don’t watch the show either. 😛 But yeah, Cinder is awesome! Still don’t have a copy of Made you Up. *sob*
I understand that completely. XD You have to be REALLY into epic fantasy to want to read Game of Thrones, I reckon, because it’s super detailed and I mean, I love fantasy, but even I think it gets tedious. PLUS IT’S KINDA VIOLENT AND SCARY. Ohhhhh, you need find Made You Up someday. xD NEED. I TELL YOU. NEEED.
*hides face* I haven’t read any of these…or any that you have recommended. In fact, I think the only super popular books I have read recently are the first two books in The Maze Runner. I typically read lesser known books.
*sigh* There are so many good books. Just ONE? If I can only pick one I HIGHLY recommend the Ilyon Chronicles by Jaye L. Knight. *Tries to remain calm* THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!
Okay…I’ll try not to scare you away with my fangirling. 🙂
I love the Maze Runner so I HIGHLY approve of that life decision. XD DON’T HIDE. COME OUT. I WILL NOT EAT YOU OR SET THE HEDGEHOGS ON YOU. Yet….
*cackles evilly*
AHEM. I’ve heard of Jaye L Knight but never read any of her books! 😀 I need to check them out someday. XD
First off, I have to say the name of your post today is what caught my attention and made me LOL big time! second, I did the SAME THING with the Lunar Chronicles. there was so much hype that when i first started reading it and couldn’t get into it, i thought i was missing something! so i stopped reading it. then i started it again a few months later and loved it. cinder was my favorite one in the series (so far). great post today!
AHHHHH I AM SO GLAD. I love giving posts weird titles, hehehhhhhh. I didn’t even KNOW about the Cinder hype when I tried it, but I wasn’t book blogging either and had no motivation to finish it…except for ya know, my sister’s death threats if I didn’t. I’M SO GLAD I DID THO. Scarlet is my favourite. XD
Sansa and lemon cakes! Love the GIF.. and Ink and Bone looks good too.
Awk, thank you. xD AND YES LEMON CAKES FTW, I SAY. Sansa had the right idea. 😉
I need to read Tiger Lily and more of A Game of Thrones. I’ve been staring at Made You Up at the library for some time, but I haven’t checked it out yet – I might have to now. If you haven’t read Timebound by Rysa Walker or The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle yet, I recommend them to you! 🙂
Check out my TTT.
Made You Up is TOTALLY worth it! It’s so beautiful and funny and fascinating….and sad. ZOMG THE ACCIDENT SEASON IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS EVER.
Oh gosh. I’m 100% sure I’ve read a book based on your review, but I don’t exactly know what one(s). I think you’ve probably just been doing some subtle mind control on all of us. Okay, clearly not subtle, you rule us all!
And recommend one book?! Ah, that’s pressure. You’ve read so many I’m not sure I could think of one you haven’t devoured! Ummmm. Have you read the Skychaser series by Amy Kathleen Ryan? The first in the series is called Glow and it is a YA space thriller taking place entirely on two ships bound for a new planet after earth fails. I really enjoyed it, though it doesn’t seem to be a super popular series. It had a lot of adult problems/concepts thrown onto teenagers who have only lived on these giant spaceships!
I’m sure I’ve been doing subtle mind control. I mean, I have to be right? I’m not just sitting here twiddling my thumbs. IT’S A SUBTLE WORLD TAKE OVER BY ME. Except I keep announcing it so scrap the subtle? *nods*
I HAVE NOT READ SKYCHASER! I shall look it up ASAP. My TBR is exploding on goodreads after this post. hehe.
Great topic you chose for this week! lmao especially the way you titled it 😉 Ink and Bone and Made You Up have such lovely covers!
My TTT
I know right?!?! I aDORE their covers. INSTA COVER LOVE. <3
Cait why don’t you have Cinder in the picture with your other Lunar Chronicle books??! 😉 And I am ashamed to say that I haven’t read most of these… just the Lunar Chronicles and all of Rick Riordan… I own A Game of Thrones and Wicked but they’re big books and I’m like ehhhhh… eventually I’ll get to them. And I recently finished Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman and it is a new favorite book of mine. Historical fiction set in the Wild West. I don’t know if that’s up your alley, but I absolutely adored it.
I DON’T OWN CINDER. *hyperventilates* I know. It’s shameful. I almost never own the first books in series (I don’t own Raven Boys or Throne of Glass or Heroes of Olympus…*sigh*) It’s because I don’t know about the series when I start and I hate risking money. So I only buy it when I’m sure I’ll like it. xD ONE DAY. I’ll buy Cinder…
The Game of Thrones audio SAVES LIVES I tell you. It makes the whole thing sooo much more manageable. As long as you’re up for like 30+ hours of listening. hehe. The 5th book is 40+ hours. o.O
I’m TOTALLY getting my hands on Vengeance Road ASAP. XD
I finally went to get myself a copy of Ink and Bone and was turned away because they didn’t carry it in the store. WHAT?! I ended up purchasing three other books and went home thinking I should have just ordered it from their website. HA! Well, I’m $30 poor-er and still don’t have a copy of Ink and Bone. It WILL have my own copy AND SOON. I swear it! 😉
Actually, there are several books on this list that I have on my TBR list. 😉
OMG. SHAME ON YOUR STORE. What a let down. Just, zomg, how RUDE, basically. (heheh but I do hope you find it one day or library it or something. XD)
I have had so many people tell me to read the Game of Thrones books and I haven’t because (don’t hate me) I really dislike the TV show. Like…SUCH DISLIKE, it verges on hatred, and I can’t bring myself to read any of the books it’s based on lol
I tell everyone to read Good Omens, it’s really the only book I push on people, because it’s perfect 😉
Oh I wont’ hate you! I totally get that because I watch the show and it’s…it’s very different. But like if you really hate it I wouldn’t bother with the books…although they ARE different. There’s actually more sadistic torture and rape in the show than the books. ALTHOUGH it is in the books too. *sigh*
GOOD OMENS IS AMAZING. I ADORE THAT BOOK TO PIECES. Literally pieces, hehe, because the library book I borrowed was so well loved it basically fell apart in my hands. XD Proof of an excellent book, right?!
Given the whole prompt behind this post I think I would be allowed to recommend a book to you: Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride. Everyone else is ignoring the recommendation.
//whispers read it.
And Tiger Lily was cool and sad and also I liked how it was in Tink’s POV
OH! I also need to add that a hedgehog wouldn’t actually eat you. I’ve got a hedgehog and at most she might lick you a little bit. Now, a raccoon…a raccoon would eat you.
Omg, you have a hedgehog?!? CAN I COME OVER AN PAT IT???
And yes yes you need to recommend a book to me, even if you’re being rude and debunking my nefarious hedgehog threats around here. *folds arms and pouts* BUT. I’M LOOKING UP THIS NECROMANCER BOOK ASAP. ARE YOU HAPPY. XD
I HAD THE EXACT SAME SENTIMENTS ON CINDER! I DNFed it when I first read it, but once I got into the swing of things, I ADORED it and the sequels. <3 Go Mime for pushing this on you! But I'm the opposite when it comes to Tiger Lily. The writing was just not for me… *coughs* BUT PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS ASDFGHJKL. You already know my love for this series! <3 Yes to the Made You Up book pushing as well. 😉
I'm fairly easy to push books to, and because of that, I can't remember in *particular* whose review made me read what. ._.
AHHH WE ARE CINDER TWINS!! Mime totally made the right decision to threaten my wonderful being with violence unless I finished. *nods* And now I totally have overtaken her. xD She hasn’t even read Fairest yet. AND YES I KNOW YOUR LOVE FOR PERCY JACKSON. HAAAAAH.
Considering you recommend a lot of books, no I have not read ALL of them. 😀 But I want to. I have a huge list…I think my goodreads tbr is 1,800 books long…But I want to read all the books. I’m just too poor to buy them all and I have no library card. 😛 And the one book, or rather it’s a short story, that I say you should read someday is: White Nights by Frydor Dostoevsky. It’s such a beautiful and sad story. 🙂
Omg, I do recommend books a lot don’t I? Gawsh, I must be exhausting to be around. *takes nap to recover from self* BUT ANYWAY. My goodreads is about that long too. XD But I can’t stop adding books. Why don’t you have a library card?!?!? LIBRARY CARDS ARE LIFE. It is my favourite card in the universe, tbh. xD I’m looking up White Nights now! 😀
Yeah you do, but it’s AWESOME. 😀 I know, I’m the same way. I’m like there’s no way I will ever be able to read these books but I will try! lol
because life is stupid. 😛 I don’t live in city limits which means in order to get a library card I have to pay like $50-100 to get a library card. And I’m to poor to do that at the moment. 🙁 THEY ARE LIFE? I am currently wasting away to nothing. 😉
Cool! I forgot to mention in my first comment that it’s not a modern short story, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.
OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!? That seems monstrously unfair that it’d cost so much for a library card. I wouldn’t do it either. *cries*
I KNOW! *cries with you*
I’ve only read The Lunar Chronicles, PJO, and Heroes of Olympus on this list BUT OMG THEY ARE SO AMAZING AND I LOVE THEM. Seriously, those are two of my favorite series ever <3 <3 <3 <3
Um… I have copious recmmendations from you on books list, I just haven't gotten to them yet, because LIFE, lol. And if I could recommend one book to you… hmm, Have you read the Tiger Saga? It is basically my favorite thing ever. The first book is admittedly a little slow, but my almost-favorite-character-ever has more page-time later on and it just becomes gloriously, gorgeously epic. 😀

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO HUG ALL THE PERCY JACKSON BOOKS, TBH. RIORDAN IS A GENIUS. And so funny. Omg, snort out my coffee sort of funny. *ahem* I haven’t read the Tiger Saga but I REALLY WANT TO.
When I read the title, I was like, I have followed the perfect book blogger! I have heard some of these but surprisingly don’t know many of them!
AWww, thanks for following! 😀 MY DAY = MADE BASICALLY.
I’M a bilgesnipe ME ME ME! Also this post is gloriously funny. VIOLENCE AND CUDDLY WATERMELONS.
The Curseworkers trilogy I would never have read if not for your glorious recommendation. So I took a chance at reading a weird, freaky, contemporary, magic, con-artist, gangster, crazy book IN FIRST PERSON PRESENT TENSE. Seriously. This was so not me (except for the con-artist part but I’d only watched shows so far, mind you; no books till White Cat). I’M SO GLAD I DID OH MY GOODNESS. And then of course I thought that I didn’t need to read the two sequels. Then the next day after dreaming about the book I realized… I MISS CASSEL AND THIS WORLD AND I NEED TO GO LIVE IN IT AGAIN AAAAAAAHH. So I got the next two and read them both in the same day. XD *huggles Cassel and all of the messes* Seriously, Holly Black needs to write A SPINOFF SERIIIIIES.
And if I could recommend only ONE book to EVERYBODY in the world (and you of course since you’re asking), it would, hands down, be….. HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE BY DIANA WYNNE JONES. Everybody must read it because it’s perfect alsdkjfldkjf. <3 So. Read it. Or I shalt verily throwest thou to the hedgehogeths. *nods seriously*
ALL THE CUDDLY WATERMELONS AND VIOLENCE! HUZZAH! You are a good bilgesnipe, btw. *ahem* Omg yes yes! I remember you got onto the Curseworks because of me. GO ME. Because clearly that was like the best life decision of your ever. JUST SAYIN’. I’m still not over that series and I read it last year. I JUST WISH I COULD REREAD IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAIN. :’) Holly Black neeeeds to write more about what evil Lila and Cassel are up to now. Omg, raising their kids to be evil? I want it. *ahem*
AHHHH, okay!! I totally keep hearing about Howl’s Moving Castle, so maybe I need to trot myself to the library and reserve it. XD
Hahaha I love the title to this post – it made me giggle! I love your photography, too – it’s really effective and creative 😀 Ink and Bone sounds amazing. YESS to books about books!! Tiger Lily also sounds super interesting!
YAAAAAY. I’m glad it was funny. 😉 I try, I try…hehe ZOMG THANK YOU ALSO. I LOVE PHOTOS AND I KNOW, LIKE, NOTHING ABOUT MY CAMERA SO AHHHH THANK YOU THIS IS NICE AND ENCOURAGING. <3 Tiger Lily is just so so beautiful.
I don’t even know where to start with this comment, there’s just so much! Okay, first and foremost, death by spork seems like such an awful way to go. I would have read the book too. I am just now reading (listening) Ink and Bone, also because of Faye’s recommendation, and I’m loving it so far. Minus the eaten book.
I haven’t read a book you recommended just yet, but I will read Made You Up and start there. Because you said so. As for the recommendation, I’d maybe go with Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar because it seems like a pretty safe bet, even for someone I don’t know that well just yet.
It would be awful. Even worse than death by hedgehog. I THINK OF NEFARIOUS THINGS, DON’T DENY IT NOW. Ahhh, I wish I could listen to an audio of Ink and Bone, I think it’d be even MORE beautiful that way because it’s just so detailed and the writing is gorgeous and afjdklsad I love it.
But yes, yes *nods emphatically* Made You Up is an EXCELLENT life decision and I highly approve. I haven’t even heard of Raw Blue so I’M GONNA LOOK THAT UP NOW.
Leo is THE BEST. I love him with my whole heart. Yes.
HE IS JUST EVERYTHING. HE IS SO MARVELLOUS OMG.
Cinder is one I read a few chapters of it and DNF but everyone and I mean everyone seems to love it I really need to give it another try. You must read the all souls trilogy by Deborah harkness. It is a adult historical paranormal, book of genius and I love it so much. It is a beast of a series but so worth it.
If you’re anything like me then YOU MIGHT LIKE IT MORE THE 2ND TIME!?!?? I hope so anyway. XD It really is spectacular, but yeah, those first few chapters did nothing for me. 🙁 Ahhh, I’ll look up All Souls trilogy then! I LOVE books of genius. XD
I loved Challenger Deep so very much and am looking forward to reading Made You Up now, thanks for the recommendation! ;D
This is such an interesting post idea, too. And you’re not the only one who was pushed into reading the second Percy Jackson series. I agree, though, the Heroes of Olympus series was much better than the first.
SAME. *hi fives* I think maybe because the Heroes of Olympus series was YA and I just always perfer YA over MG?? But still. XD It’s like one of my favourite series now. And I was so so sad when it ended.
I’ve definitely bought a lot of books that have been indirectly recommended to me, but actually getting around to reading them is an entirely different story. Pretty much everybody and their pets have told me to read Cinder, and now everybody’s telling me to continue on with the series, and continue on I shall! I’d probably read A Game of Thrones if it didn’t look so intimidating; I don’t think my poor little brain could take it >.<
Game of Thrones IS intimidating. I think you need to be seriously keen on fantasy to try it though?? Because it goes into a LOT of detail about world building and I’m a fantasy nut but even I’m finding it tedious. XD If you do try it, I recommend the audios 10000%!!
Last month and this month I’ve been reading a ton of books I never would have picked up if they hadn’t been specifically recommended to me. It’s really fun! I like being able to talk about them with the person who recommended them.
You already know all the books I think you should read, so I expect to be on your list next time.
HEDGEHOGS. <3
YES. But I haven’t several of the books you’ve told me to. *hangs head in shame* I HAVE REASONS THO. Like I desperately want Every Last Breath but it’s only in hardcover in Australia right now so gah, I’m just waiting until I slip it in with my book voucher purchases. *nods* But Simon’s is cheap so hopefully I’m buying it soon?!?!? SO SEE I DO TRUST YOU AND I’M GOING TO READ THEM I AM.
OMG TYPO. Every Last WORD.
Don’t worry, I know why you haven’t read them yet. 😀 (And anyways, you have read Made You Up and Emmy & Oliver!)
Maybe you should get all of your blog minions to write letters to your library, complaining about the lack of YA new releases. And also Juliet Marillier.
Omg, such a good idea. Small virtual riots! And maybe they’ll actually BUY some new books for once?!?
Excellent. I like this plan.
Nice topic for the week!!
I chose to focus on banned books as Banned Books Week is coming up later this month!! Here’s a link to my TTT post for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/09/top-ten-tuesday-my-list-of-favorite.html
Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Oh, I love the book blogging community. It really is the best place to find new books to read! 🙂
IT IS. And I love how passionate people can be about their recommendations. XD
Oh great list 🙂 I’ve only read a few of them so my own TBR just got even longer.
TTT posts are almost always terrible for our TBRs right?!?! XD OH HOW WE LOVE THEM.
TAMORA PIERCE SONG OF THE LIONESS QUARTET OR I’M RELEASING THE KRAKEN.
That’s right, I’ve upped the ante. Screw hedgehogs, the kraken is coming. Although hedgehogs are a very good threat points to anyone that used hedgehogs as a threat.
I have read ‘Every Breath’ by Ellie Marney because of you and your flailing. I mean there’s quite a few books that are down to you because you have truly fabulous taste dahling, but that one is the biggie I can point to it and go THAT ONE WAS ALL CAIT’S FAULT.
Those are a mighty fine selection of books you have been forced to read. I am particularly beaming upon ‘The Game of Love and Death’ because I SHIP THEM SO HARD AND THAT BOOK, JEEZ THAT BOOK WAS AMAZING.
OKAY CALM DOWN. KEEP THE KRAKEN BACK, OMG KEEP IT BACK. *runs around like a headless chicken* I actually haven’t read any Tamora Pierce? So…um…maybe I shouldn’t be admitting that while you’ve got a kraken lying around??
I DO have spectacular taste. I do. It’s just this fabulous brilliance that I have. Every Breath is just incredible and so is book 2 I’m happy to report. I’m about to, like, rob a bookstore and get book 3 asap. (I SAY “rob” to keep up appearances, but ya know, I’ll buy like a normal person. BUT I GOTTA LOOK FIERCE, OKAY!??)
That’s ok, I will put the Kraken back in its box for now, but it’s watching you until you read some Tamora Pierce… *cuts eye holes in box*
I’m SO GLAD book 2 lives up to the first one, because I’ve been putting off reading it because I’m SO NERVOUS that it would fall flat on its face. But now I know that you with your excellent taste loved it, so I must GET ON IT NOW.
Also, you’re totally fierce, it’s fine, you’re good. 😀
You must have a lot of book-related bruises by the sounds of things! I can think of worse things to have thrown at me (though I am mildly terrified by the threat of being fed to the hedgehogs!). Absolutely loved reading this list. I think I am 100% guilty of recommending books to people and also 100% of not taking heed of recommendations! But I do often pick up a book after reading another blogger’s review and recently discovered Miranda Kenneally that way. You should try Jesse’s Girl!
My TTT
I totally DO. I am like one big bookish bruise, tbh, because people are so very vigorous with their recommendations. THE THINGS WE BOOKWORMS PUT UP WITH. I’ll look up Jesse’s Girl! 😀 My TBR isn’t big enough anyway…BAHHAHHA
If I remember right, I finally read the Hunger Games partially over your fangirling over it. (And also partially because I had an IRL friend throw a copy at me and demand that I read it)
And Cait, you TOTALLY need to read Resistance by Jaye L. Knight. Everyone needs to read Resistance, for that matter. It’s that good of a book. 🙂
So me and your IRL friend are MARVELLOUS influences on your reading habits then. *awards us both with virtual cake* And ohhhh yay! I’ll go look that up on goodreads! 😀
So many people keep telling me I need to read the Lunar Chronicles… I really do lol My TTT
YOU DO. I shall add my voice to the millions squawking at you to try it. 😉
OH MY GOSH YES! so far, the books One, the rest of us just live here, the wrath of dawn, and plenty of others have been added to my TBR list because of you. i love the funny reviews and always feel the need to stalk the reviewed books on goodreads and add them to my TBR list. My school’s book club doesn’t start up again until NOVEMBER *cries uncontrollably* so its nice to hear what other people’s opinions and rants on books.
ok, so normally when someone asks for a book recommendation, i scream THE FALSE PRINCE while jumping up and down and basically exploding to the moon. however, since i believe you’ve already read that (if i’m wrong then YOU MUST READ IT!) then i would recommend Peter Nimble and his fantastic eyes. it’s more of a middle school book, but is completely fantabulus in every way imaginable and a must read!
AFJDKLSA THIS IS WONDERFUL. MY JOB AS A WILD BOOKISH FANGIRL IS SUCCEEDING. HHHHHHHAHHHHHH. *ahem* I always look for other people’s opinions on books now too!! I used to just borrow whatever I felt like at the library, but now I’m all like “but what did everyone else think of it???” And it helps me to pick good books too, I think.
YES I LOVE THE FALSE PRINCE. Although I never finished the series, so I should get onto that, right?!?!?!
Percy Jackson recommended by everyone, LOL. It is so true, though! It is a cult classic. I am in love with that Supernatural GIF of Dean at the bottom there, Cait. I say that ALL the time, since I AM HILARIOUS, OKAY?!
IT IS. I feel like nearly everyone has read it and mostly everyone loves it. hehe. Dean is everything, though. HE IS. And I am forced to say it all the time too because my family forgets just how HILARIOUS I am and they need to be briskly reminded.
I have never read a book you have recommended to me (unconsciously or not), BUT I added The Game of Love and Death because of your GR statuses and review. Seriously, IT SOUNDS SO AMAZING AND COMPELLING. One book? I feel I’m getting you and everyone else tired about this but again, I have to recommend The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey. SORRY for shoving it down your (and almost everyone I am friends with on GR and the blogosphere) throat, but that series is seriously freaking AMAZING and PERFECT. (Seriously, I’m sorry of this is starting to annoy you). Also, YES TO INK AND BONE. That book was so awesome – in every sense.
I hope you do try TGOLAD sometime because ohhhhhh holy cupcakes IT IS JUST SO GOOD. Haa, I knew you were going to say The Monstrumologist. XD I KNEW IT. And it’s been added on goodreads so see, you ARE persuasive. 😉
Nah, I think the threat was more like “if you don’t read this I’ll put the curse of the Book Slump upon you!” (And, see aren’t you glad you did? 😉 ) And yes, I am such a violent human being. Can’t you see it?
And I am also part of the “everyone” who recommended you Heroes of Olympus & Percy Jackson Cait. SO FREAKING AMAZING, RIGHT? (Although, unlike you, I liked the first series more than the second.) You cannot deny the power of the mighty Percabeth.
And eh, we totally twinned on Wicked as well. I think I’ll just stick to the musical for that one. 😉 Great post Cait and fabulous choices!
TRUE. See? I was right. You are a scary little thing AND I DO WHAT I’M TOLD AND STAY ALIVE, YES. I AM WISE. Zomg yes yes you totally were for PJO too. Basically for so many things Zoe. It’s wonderful. Keep hounding me with epic rec’s. :’)
I was the same way for me with Cinder, too! I read the first chapter a few years back and kind of got bored with it and abandoned it (gasp). But about last week i reread it and now its pretty much one of my favorite books! Yay!
OMG WE ARE TWINS ON THIS MATTER. I wonder why it is?!? Like is it the first chapter or something?! Idek, it just was so boring to me at first and now I would reread it a million times because all. the. love.
It seems like most of the books I read these days are recommended by you, or are ones you reviewed very positively. =)
AWK. REALLY!?!?? MY WORK HERE IS DONE. MWHAHAH.
I seriously NEED to read the Lunar Chronicles. I’ve heard they’re amazing. I’m just super bad at reading books quickly and haven’t gotten around to it.
I had heard about Percy Jackson, but didn’t know much about it, but I was visiting my friend and she owns all the books and I was like hey, why don’t I try it? AND I’M SO GLAD I DID! I love them so much. I do need to finish the second series though…
Also, I can’t remember if I already said this or not but I love your new blog theme! 😀
Awwk, thanks, Felicity! 😀 It’s still so new and shiny and I love it soo so much too. *tackle hugs own blog*
Ahem.
YES EVERYONE NEEDS TRY THE LUNAR CHRONICLES. *nods emphatically* Don’t be like me! Don’t doubt their incredibleness! I think the second PJ series is better, personally, hehe, more YA than MG, so that suited me a bit better.
cait, you should know that i’ve read a TON of books based on your recommendation, so asking me to tell you is nearly impossible because there are too many. (actually it’s more like i forgot which ones specifically, but IT’S HAPPENED BEFORE.) if i could recommend you to read one book – just one book – it’d be… simon vs. the homo sapiens agenda, by becky albertalli? i’m 500% sure you’ve already read that because you read EVERYTHING. if not that then, the darkest minds by alexandra bracken? i can’t keep tracking of your crazy book eating. i’m super glad some very awesome people pushed you read cinder and the heroes of olympus series, as those are a few of my absolute FAVES. love them!
WELL. THAT IS GOOD NEWS THEN. Omg but no NO I haven’t read Simon’s yet! I REALLY REALLY WANT TO. I’ve begged my library to buy it and it’s tentatively on my list to buy the ebook so, ajdfklas I trust you!! Everybody raves about it. Like I’ve literally only heard 1 negative review and the rest were explosions of oreos and awesome so why on earth have I not read it yet. WHY. And I haven’t actually read The Darkest Minds either BUT I’m trying to snag it from the library. *nods* IT IS ON MY TO-DO LIST.
YAAAAAAAAAAAS. This is such a great post. I’ll throw the book at you I always throw at people (though I’M NOT SURE IF ANYONE HAS ACTUALLY DONE SO AND READ IT YET) but it is the most perfect of books, and it is the most perfectly researched book and every chapter has a little portrait of the duchess that is narrating and omg… JUST LOVE.
The Lost Crown by Sarah Miller
OMG AND IT’S ABOUT RUSSIA?!?? WHERE IS THIS BOOK AND WHY IS IT NOT IN MY LIFE YET. *runs for the library*
I worry that I read ALL the books because you specifically recommend them 😉 I have purchased several books based on your recommendation alone though! The Unlikely Hero of Room 13B, Splintered and whatever the sequel is, Bird, there are probably more but I am tired. And you have been key in the peer pressure for several other series. Like The Raven Boys.
I am so honored that I threw a book at you and you liked it! Because ummm remember the Sin Eater’s Daughter Debacle? I still have nightmares about that. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still love it. Made You Up is so fabulous.
You have also reminded me how badly I need to read The Game of Love and Death. Like, yesterday. And Ink and Bone! I just want to read all the things, okay? I know you understand the struggle.
WHY IS THIS A WORRY? THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY GOOD THING. This is how I’m ruling the world, see? I tell people to read books, they read them…ergo when MINE finally comes out: insta best seller. IT IS THE GREATEST PLAN OF THE UNIVERSE. *nods* Ahem. I’m wonderful at peer pressure. Book pressure?
HAAA. But I got a surprise ARC of The Sin Eater’s Daughter so I had to read it anyway so I don’t blame you for that. I’m fussy! COME ON. WE ALL KNOW THIS. And you need The Game of Love and Death. I’m like 98% sure you’ll love it. AND I AM NEVER WRONG. MWHAHHAHA.
I requested Ink & Bone because of you. Amazing, amazing book. I stayed up way past my bedtime reading it. I would like the next book in the series now…pretty please!
And now I really want to read Tiger Lily. I actually own an eBook copy. I think it was free on Nook (or uber cheap which is rare for Barnes & Noble ebooks).
YAYYYYYYY!! I AM SO GLAD. It’s so detailed, too, right?! Like I felt so INVESTED in the book just because the world felt really huge and well-thought out. *nods* And those wonderful little characters. *hides Jess in a soft box of protection*
Lol I loved how you picked up GoT because of the Lemon cakes! Very like you Cait. Book recommendations are the best! I’ve wanted to read Ink and Bone and Made You Up because of Faye and Shannon’s recommendations as well!
They totally are the BEST! Especially when it’s someone you really trust, right?!? Faye and Shannon are wonderfully convincing. 😉
Dear Cait,
First off — NEW DESIGN WAAAAAT. *cuddles it and screams* It’s fantastic and I love the animated arrow like what even you are freaking amazing girl. ♥ mmmgah. Okay, onto the actual post heh….
Of course I remember Mime!! HOW IS SHE WHERE IS SHE WHAT IS THIS SORCERY? “(I threw a book at her once…)” AHAHA oh my gosh. Literally this is so funny because I bought Cinder and started reading it (literally just the first chapter, just like you did) and was like… “meh this is kind of boring and it’s written in third person meh.” And then I dumped it for Divergent. *feels like a traitor somehow* But I fully intend to go back and read the entire series because *cough*–everything I’ve heard about Cress–*cough* and because everyone loves it apparently. So yes. I’m going to go back. I am. Don’t throw a book at me. x)
“Leo is the most delightful little spark of burnt sandwiches whom I would like to protect forever.” Literally I think you’re the only person ever who can make me laugh so hard over characters and books that I don’t even know. LIKE WUT EVEN. ♥ i wuv it.
I honestly don’t read many books — *Cait bookslides me alive* — but I very much intend to read the Cinnamon Girl one. *is too lazy to scroll up and find the whole title* Because it looks amazing. Also I might have to check out The Game of Love and Death because that sounds surprisingly awesome.
Halarious post, as always! (AND I DON’T KNOW IF I’VE EVER TOLD YOU THIS BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW YOU’RE NOT AFRAID TO USE CAPS LOCK A LOT IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW.)
love,
abbie
AHHHHH I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKE THE NEW LOOK. 😀 It’s a little violent and beautiful and just perfect. :’)
HA. I shall tell Mime you remember her then. 😉 SHE IS GOOD. She’s just, ya know, acing highschool with all the top marks and being super clever…that kinda thing. BUT YES I HAD THE SAME REACTION WITH CINDER. It was the 3rd person!! I just…bleh. (Although, weirdly, now 3rd person is my favourite to read of ever and I’d pick it over 1st ANY day. But I was reading it around the time of Divergent and Divergent was my everything at that moment. haha.)
I AM SO GLAD I MAKE YOU LAUGH THOUGH, BECAUSE THAT JUST MAKES ME DAY. AHHHHH. I’M JUST GONNA GO HAVE A HAPPY MOMENT. BRB.
Also, come now, Abbie, CAPS LOCK IS LIFE. I BASICALLY TALK 98% IN CAPS LOCK AND IT IS EVERYTHING.
I can’t deal with the Cinder series, I have tried to read it three times and I DNF it all three times 🙁 I couldn’t deal with Tiger Lily as well LOL I’m an odd ball. That makes me depressed since everyone around me is fascinated with these books. Oh well, I guess different tastes. Made You Up was really great though, I liked that one. GAME OF THRONES THOUGH <3 LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Aw, I am sad, BUT I kind of understand. The first book…well, I love it, I REALLY DO, but hehe it took me a couple of goes to get into it so that is saying something. Ahhh, you’re not an oddball! We clearly just have very different tastes. xD GAME OF THRONES IS EVERYTHING.
I can’t believe you didn’t like Cinder at first! WHAT WAS WRONG WITH YOU?! 0_0 Joking.
Maybe. ;D
Most books that are recommended to me are books that I’ve wanted to read anyway…I can’t actually think of a book I’ve read that I hadn’t heard of/wanted to read that I read because someone recommended it to me…hmph.
Great post!
PS. Yes, I agree, Leo is the most delightful human, isn’t he?!
I KNWO RIGHT?!?!? WHAT WAS GOING ON IN MY TINY PATHETIC LITTLE BRAIN, OMG. The ultimate shame. *hangs head* But I’m totally 10000% converted now, so…forgive me, right?! *puppy dog eyes*
LEO IS EVERYTHING.
YOU MUST READ CINDER AND TIGER LILY!!!!!
Besides the ones listed… have you read The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy by: Rae Carson? SO GOOD
Then again I basically recommend a bunch of books in my TTT *insert link*
Great list!
😀
I have read Cinder and Tiger Lily. 😉 I’ve read all the ones on this list, LOL! And I’ve also read The Girl of Fire and Thorns AND IT IS SO GOOD OMG.
I decided to start the Top Ten Tuesday and CInder (and the rest of the Lunar Chronicles) made it on my list of series I want to read. I also want to read the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series. I hadn’t heard about the series until recently so I really want to read all of them!
Yesss, read ALL THE RIORDAN! 😀 I’ve read about 12 of his books now and I think the Heroes of Olympus series is my ultimate favourite.
I laughed at your interpretations of violence. Seriously I laughed thank you, it made my day 10000 better. Anyway, I haven’t read any book on your list *hides* BUT I am going to read Ink and Bone because that sounds awesome. I actually bought the Lunar Chronicles but I have yet to read it.
Thank you for making my day Nefarious Evil Overlord Of All.!
WELL THAT IS JUST FABULOUS NEWS. XD I really like to make people laugh. 😉
How could you have stopped reading Cinder? I love that series so much. I’m glad you gave it a second chance. YES LEO IS LEGIT THE BEST EVER. He is the shining light in the entire series when the others decided to take periodic breaks.
I can only think of one series that people have nagged me to read and that’s probably Falling Kingdoms. SO GLAD I DID TOO. It’s AMAZING.
But I kept going!! And now it’s 5-stars!! SO FORGIVE ME?!?! XD Leo is like the best thing that happened in those books and I Can’t believe the others all underestimated his greatness. He was a little firecracker of adorable craziness. :’)
I recently just got How To Lead A Life of Crime because I saw it here on your blog xD Don’t remember what post it was.
AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ… Jelicoe Road? I want more people to read that. I remember loving it but it’s been years. I’ll need to pick that back up myself.
YAAAAAAAY. I can’t even rave about that book enough. I NEED to reread it though, because it’s been like 3 years since I read it and I’m like forgetting exactly what it’s like. IT’s got to the “ZOMG READ THIS INCREDIBLE BOOK I CAN’T REMEMBER THE DETAILS OF I HOPE IT’S STILL GOOD HA HA HA” which is awkward. But it’s still one of the most incredible books I’ve ever read. I PROMISE.
OH! Oh! I want to read Jellicoe Road. I mean, it’s by an aussie author. I NEED to read it.
Oh yes, I bought Alice and the Fly IMMEDIATELY after reading your review, despite a no book buying ban. I am so glad I did because it was SO GOOD!!! I also read Made You Up based on Shannon’s review. Another AMAZING book!!! And I probably would have never read Lunar Chronicles at all if not for the fact that I started my blog. I started it last year and was introduced to all these amazing book bloggers. EVERY single blogger was raving about the series. I bought it for my Kindle, but it still stayed on there a while before I read it. I have never been big into the Fantasy genre, but Cinder has changed all that. Now I love Fantasy books!
OMG YES I REMEMBER THAT. I WAS SO EXCITED. 😀 It’s totally underrated right??! I want to squawk to everyone about that book’s brilliance. And clearly Shannon is just amazing at book recs. She is basically the book rec queen. I wasn’t really into 3rd person narrative until I read Cinder. XD IT OpENED MY EYES FOR SURE. Now it’s like one of my favourite styles. :’)
THIS. This is what I have missed so dearly during my time away from the blogsphere. THIS GENIUS. Hahaha I agree the bookish world is SCARY. And YES CITY OF BONES IS BEAUTIFUL. :O Shame on you for not liking Wicked, its a personal favorite of mine! And can I just say that I absolutely ADORE the new blog design? I’m so jealous that I might strangle you in your sleep. But I’m sure you’ve got like your little overlord minions roaming about reading to behead me. Oh well. Next time.
Glad to be back, Cait 🙂 Lovely post, and YES I NEED TO READ MADE YOU UP HOW HAVE I NOT YET?!
YES I HAVE HOARDS OF MINIONS PROTECTING ME AS I DROWSE. *nods* But I am glad you like the new look. 😉
OHHHHMG I’M SORRY FOR NOT LIKING WICKED. >_< I kind of would like to try it on audio one day? Because I do SO much better with long, older-style books when they're on audio. 😉
Great list! I think I’m like your friend Amy in that I tell everyone to read Unwind, I did manage to get one of my friends to read it, but it scared her half to death too! I really want to read Bruiser, I added all of Neal Shusterman’s books to my TBR after enjoying the Unwind series. I got recommended the first Percy Jackson series and devoured them all in the space of a few weeks!
My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2015/09/15/top-ten-tuesday-22/
Have you read Challenger Deep?! BEST BOOK EVER. Basically of the 2 Shusterman books I’ve read (Bruiser, Unwind and Challenger Deep) I’ve given them all 4 or 5 stars. xD So I think he’s just a solid genius.
Someday I will have enough glorious reading time to tackle the Game of Thrones series. Probably when I am retired! I really, really, really want to read Ink and Bone. I hope the ebook goes on sale after Christmas. My TTT based Top Five Friday is, wait for it… my favorite YA Paranormal Romance series. Ho ho, I bet you never ever thought I had touched one of “those” books. Do you think you will read any of the other Maguire Oz books?
I feel like there’s a good chance I’ll try Wicked again on audio! SOMEDAY. I thiiiiink my library has it? Not 100% sure on that, but if they do it’s definitely something I’d like to retry. I do SO much better with thick books on audio. *nods*
*hangs head at commenting so late into the game*
Let’s see, I read A Game of Thrones because you recommended it, and I’m currently slogging my way through A Clash of Kings because you recommended the series. But I have to say, I’m going to give the series a break for a little while once I get through this one. I mean, the lemon cakes are great, as is the rest of the food, and the plot is interesting. But Theon is just ruining everything for me, and it’s so long, and I’m so busy. I will finish it one day, but maybe not right now. Because I have to pay money for the books, and at the moment, I would rather spend my money on other things. *hangs head in shame again*
Sorry, bunny trail. Let’s see, I really want to read The Game of Love and Death and…basically everything you just mentioned. Except Wicked. My cousin read it and said it was boring too, so yeah… Also, I’m surprised you didn’t like Cinder right away. I loved the first chapter so much when I read it, I couldn’t put the stinking thing down.
As for book recommendations, if you haven’t read The Ask and the Answer yet, then you really should. And since you like books about schizophrenia, you should totally read 17 & Gone.
Oh oh I hear ya with Theon. HE IS SO ANNOYING. And awful. And basically I hate his guts. Every time I got to his chapter I basically weeped because I had to suffer through. **sigh** BUT. Just to make things awful for you…bk 3 is the BEST THING I’VE EVER READ IN MY LIFE. AHHHHGHHGHG PAIN AND FEELS AND PAIN AND PAIN. It’s really good. 😉 But don’t be shamed!!! WE HATE THEON MUTUALLY. *hi fives*
I neeeeed to read The Ask and the Answer. *nods* My bedside TBR of ARCs is down to 2 books (!!) SO THEN I’LL GET TO NESS!!
One book to passionately demand you read? Okay, got it. Resistance by Jaye L. Knight. Best, most professional, feels-stomping and epic storyworld and amazing characters and most all-around awesome indie book I’ve ever read, hands down. And throwing it into the cold hard light of comparison with every book I can remember reading ever, it’s way up there. So. READ IT!!!! (XD There, how was that?)
Late to the party, I know. Sorry.
I’m just about finished with The Scorpio Races after putting it away for a few weeks ‘cuz priorities (come ON LIFE, CAN’T YOU JUST DO YOURSELF???) but anyway. I’m in love. This book is incredible. Thanks for the huge recommendation.
One book, you say? Imma be an echo and say Resistance, by Jaye L. Knight. Yep. It’s absolutely wonderful. The third book’s cover was just revealed the other day and MAN AM I EXCITED. It’s a book that rips your heart out and replaces it with the best feels ever. The second book, though…it’s hard to top. BUT THIS BOOK IS JUST GAWGEOUS AND YOU HAVE TO READ IT. If stuffing baby porcupines in one’s pillowcase wasn’t unethical, I’d probably do it. 😛
I love the Lunar Chronicles… I can’t remember who exactly recommend them to me but I remember hearing a cyborg Cinderella and that’s all she wrote. It’s one series I have actually been up to date with, which SUCKS because I have had to wait for each book to come out before I ate it. Sad that Winter is the last one, but so happy that November 1st is almost here.
ALSO Song of Ice and Fire series (GoT), I absolutely love this series as far as the books. The show is making me lost interest more and more. If you’re wanting to change something that dramatically, just leave it out, eh? This last season, there was more than one occasion where I was screaming at the TV, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! NOOOOO!! That’s not right! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”
Not a very pretty sight and I’m pretty sure I scared the boyfriend a couple of times… But that’s always fun to do.. haha
I have only read the first series in the Percy Jackson-esque books and I loved them. I need to check out the other series, because aren’t they different mythology origins too? Like the first series, I know is Greek mythology. If I’m not mistaken, I know that another of the series is Egyptian. Is that the one you have listed? I feel a little bit of Googling going on after this…
Bruiser and Tiger Lily are two that I haven’t gotten to devour yet, but have had my eye on for awhile.. Have to remedy that 🙂 Have a great week!
This list is fantastic!!! I haven’t read any of these books yet… Perhaps I should. I definitely want to read The Game of Love and Death and The Lunar Chronicles! My friends have also been trying to convince me to read the rest of the Heroes of Olympus series but I’ve been really lazy about it… And I can’t think of any unique recommendations at the moment. Sorry >_<
Just so you know, you needed worry. I didn’t read Cinder for the longest time because I believed I had made a terrible mistake in asking my mom to buy it and that it was going to completely suck. Turns out I was wrong. Oops.
I have a lot of books on my TBR list that you have recommended to me, I believe, but I haven’t gotten to them mostly because getting ahold of a lot of books is not convenient in my living situation right now, but SOMEDAY I WILL READ THEM I PROMISE. I will say that in months past when I was young and free I found Ava Jae at Writability’s recommendations some of the best, so I appreciate that, too. But also I don’t take a lot of recommendations. I am a snob.
I am horrifically embarrassed that I am commenting on this post this late. WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME????
Anyway, if it makes you feel better, I DNF-ed Cinder after about a chapter, because I didn’t like the sound of “robots and cyborgs”. Unfortunately I don’t have a sister, so it took me months after that to take up the book because I stumbled upon the whole series in a local bookstore and bought the books in impulse (DO YOU KNOW HOW RARE IT IS TO SEE YA BOOKS IN MY COUNTRY BOOKSTORES??? I COULDN’T RESIST!!!)
Thank God for that because I love Cinder! And Scarlet! And I still have to read Cress, but I’ll most probably love that one too!.
I really want to read Tiger Lily! It sounds beautiful!
