I, personally, am in love with the concept of books being thrown onto screen. Sure details go missing and characters don’t have the right colour hair and sometimes the director doesn’t even read the original novel — BUT THAT’S MINOR STUFF, PEOPLES. The real incredibleness is seeing what I imagined actually happen. I could flail right now, to be honest. I COULD. But I won’t. I shall contain myself and talk to you logically.
I’m a very visual person so books turning into movies (or TV series) makes me a very happy ‘worm.* You want to know how excited I am for Shadowhunters?! The cast looks incredible so far (although I’m still partial to the Movie!Jace). And I’m in utter adoration of the Maze Runner movies, TFIOS, The Help, and The Hunger Games trilogy.**
So I’m going to list which books I think would make incredible movies or TV series!
And of course the movie-making-humanoids will hear me and make all of this happen. BECAUSE I AM OVERLORD.
* This is, to say, bookworm, but who says “bookworm” when you can say ‘worm?
** Amongst others, but let’s not ramble indefinitely.
This Week’s Prompt: Top Ten Books I’d Love To See As Movies/Tv Shows
Ah, yes, like last week, I’m taking photos…although I was somewhat less inspired and a teeny bit rushed. BUT STILL. I have a new camera and am in love. Unfortunately I don’t own that many books, but pfft. I repeat NEW CAMERA. You’ll just have to forgive me, peoples.
TV SERIES // BY THE PEOPLE WHO MADE SUPERNATURAL
I literally just finished WORLD AFTER and AM STILL FREAKING OUT. I particularly like this series because it paints the end of the world as gritty and nasty. Which is exactly what I think it’ll be. Probably less Snickers though. Seriously, where did they get the Snickers bars?! But I digress. I think it’ll make an exceptional TV series because everyone will be getting stabbed and half murdered and it’ll be fun. Don’t deny this. In other news, I need End of Days, like, yesterday.

Those who’ve read The Mark of Athena will appreciate my spider webby photography **breaks down sobbing**
TV SERIES // NOT MADE BY THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE MOVIE DUH
Okay, so the PERCY JACKSON movies were awful, although I do have a soft spot for the sequel (and Luke…okay, let’s face it: I have a huge soft spot for Luke and nothing else matters). BUT! If they did Riordan’s second series as a TV show, it would be perfect. They’d have time for character development and actually following the prophecies and also taking a few weeks to dye Annabeth’s hair blonde because YA KNOW IT’S NOT THAT HARD.
TV SERIES // MADE BY WHOEVER. I DON’T EVEN CARE. JUST DO IT.
I’m totally sure this’ll be on everyone’s list. And it deserves to be! THE LUNAR CHRONICLES are AMAZING. And, sure, we’re waiting on Winter (…winter is coming…) but I’m certain the finale is going to be just as perfect as the first 3 books. We have a diverse cast, sci-fi funkiness, crazy monsters, and out-of-this-world powers. What more do the movie-making-people want?!
Also, while we’re discussing them, let’s enter into the debate: is Cinder herself Asian or not? I hear so many people say she’s not, but Marissa Meyer’s pinterest board says she is. I GO WITH THE AUTHOR.
TV SERIES // MADE BY THE NARNIAN MOVIE-MAKING-PEOPLE
RANGER’S APPRENTICE is an Aussie classic. You see them everywhere, which I don’t mind at all because they’re epic. They’re funny and they shoot people and drink coffee. What more can one ask for?! OH. And there’s like 13 books. Perfect for a TV series. We can have 13 seasons.
“Are you all right?”
“No! I am not! I have a whacking great arrow stuck through my arm and it hurts like the very dickens! How could anybody be all right in those circumstances?”
“You saved my life.”
“Well, if I’d known it was going to hurt like this, I wouldn’t have! I would have just let them shoot you!”
MOVIES // MADE BY CHRISTOPHER NOLAN
Why yes I’ve gone back to listing Maggie Stiefvater in every Top Ten Tuesday post I do. No regrets, though people. I’m a rabid fan. I also think these would make incredible movies! THE RAVEN BOYS are so full of epic dialogue and vivid scenery I think it’d translate perfectly to screen. Although, my expectations would be monstrously high. I mean, what if they cast Ronan, Gansey, Noah and Adam* horrifically? It would be horror.
* Gee, they sound like a boyband when I list them like that. Maybe they should take up dueting. Blue could give them tactless advice on their songs. Um, sorry…I digress majorly.
TV SERIES // TIM BURTON HAS GOT TO BE IN ON THIS ONE
My life will pretty much not be complete until I’ve seen Skulduggery’s skeleton prancing across my TV screen. Because hello, wouldn’t this be fantastic?! The humour in SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT so so freakishly fantastic in here. I die laughing. I DO. And Skulduggery did. Ah, there’s nothing like a series based on a dead guy. Takes a lot of stress off, to be honest.
MOVIE // TIM BURTON AGAIN, BECAUSE IT’S CREEPY AND ALSO MY BRAIN IS BLANK OF DIRECTORS
I think the world needs some movies about psychotic faeries and sleepy towns and teens with dark secrets. Also boys with horns. Seriously, what could possibly be better than a movie of THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST?!! Have you seen the trailer? It. is. freaky. If it doesn’t convert you, I don’t know what will.
MOVIE // DIRECTED BY MARVEL OBVIOUSLY
Oh I would be in heaven if VICIOUS was a movie. Can’t you just see it?! It’d be the ultimate superhero movie but by the point-of-view of the villains. Like if Professor X and Magneto had gone dark side. IT WOULD BE GLORIOUS. Also, spoiler, this is my new favourite book.
TV SERIES // AM I ALLOWED TO SAY MARVEL AGAIN? BECAUSE: MARVEL
I confess! I’m a wild, crazy, passionate fan over the GONE series. And it would be extraordinary as a TV series, although maybe not a season per book…because no matter how much I adore these books: it did lag in the middle there. But there are superpowers and zombies and kids trying to survive without adults — IT’S PSYCHOTIC. It’s so TV material.
TV SERIES // THE PEOPLE WHO MADE LEVERAGE
Can’t you just see the CURSEWORKER TRILOGY on screen?! Humour? Yes. Magic? Heck yeah. Epic characters? Gotcha. Doomed romance? Double check. Mafia? Definitely. And disasters at the hand of a sociopathic teenager?! SOMEONE PLESE DO THIS FOR ME. I’M LITERALLY BEGGING NOW. This is one of my all time favourite series and it’s about heists and cons. I love a good con. (Like, on screen, I get moody if someone cons me out of my cake. Just in case any of you pineapples are getting ideas.)
-~-
I’m SO excited for the Shadowhunters show! I just want to see them all kick ass in their badass clothes with ALL the witty dialogue thrown in. I wasn’t a fan of movie Jace, so I don’t mind the actor changing! And I just recently saw Vicious in a STS post and it sounds PERFECT, so I shall be reading it ASAP.
IT’s GONNA BE SOOOOO GOOOOOD. I’ve already seen some behind-the-scenes pics and they look incredible. XD YES!! I think you’ll like Vicious, I really do!
Honestly the first books that popped into my mind when I saw this week’s theme was THE RAVEN BOYS, because oh gosh I think they would just make epic TV. Good movies, too, but I think a show would let them have more room to explore characters/plots and it would just be WONDERFUL to watch. Ditto with The Lunar Chronicles. Don’t care who does it. JUST MAKE IT HAPPEN.
SO MUCH CHARACTER dEVELOPMENT AND AWESOME DIALOGUE. :’) I mean, I’d be a little worried because I love that series so intensely buuuut I want to see Blue and the boys onscreen! I DO.
You’re so optimistic about adaptations! I’m pretty visual too, but I usually imagine only what could go wrong. But then again, there have been such promising adaptations lately…
YES to an adaptation of the Lunar Chronicles cause that would be epic (just think of the cast!), but it doesn’t really scream TV show to me, I feel like the pacing would be better suited to a series of movies. As for Cinder, I always imagined her coming from a strong Asian background — I feel like it says it in the book — so I was so surprised to see fan art where she hardly looks Asian at all, and similar fan casts. Disappointed as well, because she’s one of the most prominent Asian MCs that I can think of.
Yay, glad to meet another fan of the Gone series! I feel like so many people really dislike the books. I really think it would be splendid as a TV show, there’s so much that could be done with it. Plus, Michael Grant is an awesome man.
And yikes, I haven’t read Holly Black’s newest book but CRAP was that book trailer creepy!
I think they’re getting better at adaptions! I think Catching Fire and Divergent were SUPER faithful to the books…and I’m a sucker for TFIOS and The Maze Runner too. :’)
I’ve always imagined Cinder as Asian, it just threw me when her cousin, Winter, was described with dark skin. Shouldn’t Cinder then have dark skin too?! GAH. I hope Marissa Meyer explains this. (Or maybe she did and I just missed that detail…)
*GONE SERIES HI FIVE*
Hmm, I never thought about Cinder and Winter like that. There’s a relative in there somewhere! I wonder if we’ll get to meet that person.
Ranger’s Apprentice would make decent movies too. I think Sam Raimi, who directed the original Spider-Man trilogy is adapting the Penryn and the End of Days (Angelfall) series into films.
Whatwhatwhat I hadn’t heard this!! THIS IS GLORIOUS NEWS.
I actually know what pulchritude means without looking it up. Score! *punches fist in air*
… And I have literally read zero of these books. I know, I know, I’m failing you. But they are on my TBR, and I would love to watch them on screen — especially the Stiefvater books, and Percy Jackson. I love how you suggested directors, too! And I STILL have not read Vicious, even though I know I’ll love it. I would kill for A Darker Shade of Magic to be adapted, though.
YOU CLEARLY ARE AWESOME AND WORDY. I am not. The internet gives me words and I use them gleefully. XD
YES PLEASE CAN I HAVE ALL OF THESE NOW??? Tim Burton is one excellent director. His Alice in Wonderland is my favourite forever 🙂 OH OH AND MY SCHOOL FINALLY GOT THEIR COPY OF SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT BACK SO I CAN TOTALLY READ IT NOW :D:D:D
PS those photos are soooooo pretty *waits quietly for someone to bring me a brilliant camera*
YAAAAY. Okay, but I’m nervous because I need you to love SP. (And just remember they get better as you read, so you have to read, like, at least 6 of them. *whistles innocently*)
VICIOUS! Oh yes. I haven’t read it yet (on my very long list of books I want to add to the physical TBR pile) but the premise sounds perfect for Marvel. Surely they’re listening, right?
(also sorry for the multitude of comments. It’s my day off… haha)
*yells out to Marvel* YOU NEED TO HEAR US, MARVEL, WE HAVE SUCH GOOD PLANS FOR YOU.
PFft, NEVER apologise for comments. YOUR COMMENTS ARE INCREDIBLE. XD
WE KNOW WHAT IS AWESOME MARVEL! WE DO!
Well now that it’s been established: I shall comment like I have never commented. Apology retracted 😛
Firstly, pulchritudinous is one of my favorite words, so you are now my best friend ever. Secondly, you gif of Percabeth expresses my feelings about her brown hair perfectly. And I liked the sequel movie better, but it bugged me even more that they finally decided to dye her hair. Like, oh, did you people finally get around to reading the book? Woopsies. Nugh. I hate inconsistency. But I love Luke. LUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it just me, or did he look so much better in The Sea of Monsters? And he is so great in the book–ohmygoodnessheismydarling!!! As for Cinder, SPOILERS–I always pictured her as Asian, because I wondered if her cover story wouldn’t have worked if she didn’t at least look like she could have been Asian. Like, if she looked like she was Irish, they probably would have plunked her down in Ireland. And I cannot wait for Winter. I MUST HAVE IT NOW OR I WILL DIE. *flops*
YAAAAY for pulchritudinous!!! I only just discovered it and it is glorious.
ERGH. Yes. I feel like they should’ve just kept Annabeth brown, because it was all “what the heck are you doing here” when they finally got around to changing it blonde. And plus it’s all just very…DIFFERENT. It’s barely based off the books at all. :O
YES LUKE WAS ADORABLE IN SEA OF MONSTERS AND I LURVE HIM.
I want Winter too…like..I needed it yesterday. *pines quietly*
I’d be all over a Tim Burton Skulduggery Pleasant adaptation – he’s basically the ideal director for that series, and the books are so action-packed adaptations would be so much fun to watch. 😀
The Lunar Chronicles almost made my list this week, too. 🙂 I must admit I didn’t picture Cinder as Asian myself because I thought that was something else that distanced her from everyone else; not only is she a cyborg but she’s obviously ‘not from around here’, too. Also judging by their descriptions I don’t think Levana and Channary are/were Asian (though I could be wrong!) but having said that Cinder’s biological father could very well have been, so it could be that Cinder is mixed race which I think suits her.
Ultimately I don’t mind either way. I know a lot of people, myself included, didn’t initially picture her as Asian, but there’s nothing wrong with adding a little more diversity to what’s already a wonderfully diverse series.
Great list!
Tim Burton would RULE IT. With the humour plus the creepiness plus the settings and costume?! I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE ASAP. *fangirls intensely*
I don’t know what nationality Levana is…but I know that Winter is dark skinned…which confuses me, because shouldn’t Cinder be dark-skinned too?! GAH. But I don’t pay a lot of close attention to details when I read, so I probably missed something. >_<
I *still* haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles! They seem to be a really popular pick for adaptation to movie. I really should check them out soon. Also, ‘worm? LOVE IT! xx
Saying ‘worm is just the best, tbh. AND YES. You need to read Cinder! LIKE. YOU REALLY DO. *gets on knees and begs*
Oh yes, Penryn and the End of Day series definitely need to be made into movies or tv show. I would be all over it.
My personal pick is Red Rising trilogy. I think that series were made to be adapted on big screen. I am so glad that Mr. Brown himself is already wirting screenplay for it 🙂
ERK. I AM REALLY EXCITED FOR RED RISING. I heard they’ve got a director for it now and everything, right?!
Yep. Director is the same one as the one who directed World War Z movie (I don’t remember his name). I’m so curious when they’ll introduce the cast!
I have read literally none of these! I do have the Lunar Chronicles on my TBR list, however.
I hope you get a chance to read them someday! THEY ARE SPLENDID.
CAIT!! HA HA HA HA HA HA OMG YOU MAKE ME LAUGH!!!!
YES YES YES TO RAVEN BOYS BECAUSE NOAH BABY!! *Flails* hmm they do sound like a boy band, perhaps they could sing and Ronan could play his Irish pipes and Blue could conduct and then get really angry when Ronan wants an Irish pipe solo and then Gansey would get distracted by something Ley Liney and then Adam and Ronan will leave to just ‘happen’ to have to go and ‘investigate’ too and then Noah and Blue can sit there and sing a horribly cute duet while Blue plucks guitar strings absently and Noah makes it snow…glitter.
Anyhoo moving on from my headcanon….
I think Percy Jackson would make a good kids tv show, kinda like what they did with Deltora Quest, but maybe put real actors, but I think they should do the whole journey too!!! ^_^
AND OH YES I SO THINK THAT TIM BURTON SHOULD SO THE SKULLDUGGERY PLEASANT AND THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST!!! (by the way, I had NOT seen the trailer and omg I WANT TO READ THIS SO BADLY NOW!!! I love creepy but magicky books. 8D
Thanks for sharing Cait!!! xoxo
Omg. STAHP. Your making me feel all these things. SO MANY FANGIRLING. SO MUCH FEELING. AFJDLSAKD
Also. Blue could conduct and smack them on the head with her baton if they’re rude. *nods* She would. It’d be golden.
Cinder is SO TOTALLY ASIAN. At least in my mind she is. She’d better be. Duh.
Also, I am with you on the second Percy Jackson movie. It was kinda fun 🙂 And I would definitely watch a TV show!
@TarkabarkaHolgy from
Multicolored Diary TTT
*hi fives* WE AGREE ON CINDER’S ASIANNESS.
We have quite a few of these in common, I had The Raven Boys on my list this week too, they would make such epic movies. I said I’d like to see Skulduggery Pleasant as a movie, but I would be happy seeing it as a TV show as well, but it has to be done well because this is one of my favourite series and I won’t have it ruined which basically means Derek Landy has to write it! I’m kind of hesitant about saying I’d like to see Heroes of Olympus adapted, because of the train wreck that was the Percy Jackson movies, I’m not sure I trust anyone to adapt Rick Riordan’s books after that.
YESSS. I agree! I think Tim Burton could totally capture the creepiness plus the intensely awesome humour. Derek Landy definitely needs to screenwrite. And they HAVE to use the original dialogue because FAJDSKLAFD I LOVE THE DIALOGUE.
If they didn’t use the original dialogue………words could not describe how angry I would be. The dialogue is one of the best parts of the books!
Totally with you on ALL OF THESE. I too have picked the Curse Workers because it would be EPIC. WHY ISN’T THIS ALREADY A THING?!? I went with The Scorpio Races over The Raven Boys, but really I just want all of Stiefvater’s books brought to life pls thnks yus.
My TTT
I agree. SOMEONE MAKE THIS HAPPEN BEFORE WE STIEFVATER FANS EXPLODE.
I just can’t wait for Shadowhunters! It better be amazing 😀 Heroes of Olympus and The Lunar Chronicles would make amazing tv shows. I definitely need those in my life!
I’ve been seeing some filming pics and afjdkslafd everyone looks SO PERFECT. I was a little dubious about TV!Jace, but I’m quickly being converted. 😉
I’m a visual person, too, but I’m often (always?) disappointed by movies made from books.
Here’s my snarky response to the request to post a list of top ten books to be made into movies.
Aw, that is sad. I’m usually happy with them, especially lately! I think they’ve really upped their game after The Hunger Games have been so good.
Yes, it is sad. In part, for me, it’s the medium. Books are able to do so much more than movies, I think. Show vs. tell. Books hint. Movies throw it up in my face.
Probably just my personality.
I need to try City of Bones again – I put it down in the middle when I hit a reading slump – because I’m really looking forward to the Shadowhunters TV show. I loved the movie, but I do think it’ll make better TV. Snap for Heroes of Olympus – I was so disapointed when the third PJO wasn’t made. Alright, so the films weren’t awesome, but I wanted to see who they’d cast for Nico and Artemis. That band thing about the Raven Cycle is even funnier when you know that there’s a band called Blue. 🙂
I think the Scorpio Races would make a good film, and Gallagher Girls would make a good TV show.
OH WOW. I made like an inside joke of an inside joke there with Blue and I didn’t even know about it. XD Ahem.
Also *whispers* I actually sent CoB back to the library TWICE half read. I just wasn’t into it. Then I saw the movie, fell in love, and have been a notoriously rabid Cassandra Clare fan ever since. There’s probably no hope for me, but I’m not even sad. :’)
YES TO GALLAGHER GIRLS!!
I really like that you have suggested Directors or Production Companies that you think should take on the films, such a clever idea! I really need to read Vicious, I feel like everyone has always got it on their lists and I’ve never read it!!! There were so many great choices on your list this week that I have heard of though!
I was also kinda disappointed with the Percy Jackson films, they definitely need doing again (and definitely with correct hair colour!).
I haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles yet, still sat on my shelf untouched. But from all the great things I have heard about them, a met of movies would be close to perfect!
Also Gone, yes! How did I forget about Gone! I really need to finish reading this series, and then they totally have permission to make it into films!
I am also super excited for Shadowhunters, I felt like the films weren’t long/big enough to fit everything in, but I feel like it would be better as a tv series.
LOVED your list this week! Happy reading 🙂
Vicious is BRILLIANT. I put off reading it forever because I’m mostly an exclusive YA reader…but, bah, it was perfect even if it was Adult. xD And Gone is just MADE for films (or tv series) I reckon, because of the intense amount of weirdness and so much character development and death and jokes and GAH. It’s just born for it, tbh.
I chose The Darkest Part Of The Forest and I think your idea of getting Tim Burton to direct is brilliant. With the kind of imagery he uses in his movie it would make such a pretty movie, can you imagine seeing the Fae as seen through Mr Burton’s eyes? Incredible idea, I thoroughly second your idea!
My TTT – Thea @ Gizzimomo’s Book Shelf
Tim Burton should just direct everything. That would make life PERFECT.
First, let me make a note: pulchritudinous. Ten dollar word for sure! Your pictures are looking pretty good, too. I like how you picked the production staff for each film.
Isn’t it just the most incredible word?! I WANNA USE IT ALL THE TIME NOW, TO BE HONEST.
I just started reading Vicious yesterday, so now I’m extra excited!!
Great list and all the bonus points for using the word “pulchritudinous” in your title. I love it.
omg, I hope you like it!! It’s such a new top favourite of mine. xD HAHA. Isn’t pulchritudinous an excellent word?! I LOVE IT.
It’s a fantastic word.
And I’m now 300 pages into Vicious and it is SO much fun – excellent choice!! I would totally watch that movie – it would be kind of like evil X-Men?? Must go back the book ….
All of these are great. I especially love “NOT MADE BY THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE MOVIE DUH” I totally agree! I was also actually just talking about this with my book club the other day. Heroes of Olympus would make a wonderful TV show.
Also “MADE BY WHOEVER. I DON’T EVEN CARE. JUST DO IT.” YESSS Lunar Chronicles was on my list too! I think they would be such awesome movies!
Olivia @ Fluttering Pages
YESSSSS. WE AGREE ON THIS COMPLETELY.
GAH CAIT DON’T SPEAK OF THE PERCY JACKSON MOVIES. They are absolutely horrible. Like, is it that hard to read a book if you’re in charge of making a movie adaption for it? And to cast actors who actually resemble the book characters? /rant (Although I may be biased because I am Annabeth. We have the same personality and interests; plus I look exactly like her – we both have golden blonde hair and gray eyes.) If only we could get someone actually bookish to direct it… *scowls*
And Lunar Chronicles would be a fantastic TV show as well. So much action and wonderful character development in that series!
Thanks for sharing Cait, and fabulous post!
WAIT. ZOE. YOU NEVER TOLD ME THIS. I’VE BEEN CALLING YOU ZOE ALL ALONG BUT I SHOULD CALL YOU ANNABETH. YOU SHOULD’VE BEEN CAST, TBH. When I use my glorious World Ruler skills to get the new version going, YOU shall be in charge. *nods* I see no downfall in this ever.
I agree with all of these! Except the ones I haven’t read. Those I have no opinion on.
But A CURSEWORKER T.V. SERIES WOULD BE AMAZING.
I need this now.
I NEED IT NOW. I need it yesterday. But seriously, now, why is the Curseworker series so underrated?!!
Ha! I suggested Tim Burton to direct Wuthering Heights on my TTT. The man is a genius, and apparently he needs to get to work making movies.
Basically Tim Burton needs to make ALL THE MOVIES. There can be no possible way for it to go wrong. *nods*
OHMYWORD I almost choked on my cheesecake when I saw you listed the Lunar Chronicles. I THINK ABOUT THEM BEING MOVIES SOMETIMES TOO AND I JUST HAVE A MOMENT OR FIVE.
Also YUS RA. Halp I would eat a TV series of RA SO. FAST. okay but pls can it happen.
I’LL TAKE A MOMENT WITH YOU. WE SHALL EAT CAKE IN THIS MOMENT AND REFLECT ON ALL THE GOOD THINGS THAT COULD BE IF THE LUNAR CHRONICLES GOT MOVIEISED (THAT’S A WORD).
of course it’s a word XD YES THE MORE CAKE THE BETTER.
BUT CAIT, YOU DANGLED SO MANY GOOD CHOICES IN FRONT OF ME HOW DARE YOU! Angelfall, yes please. Skulduggery, DUH PEOPLE. Curse Workers, stop already, it would be too good. Why would you tease me like so, that’s so cruel. Such a good list though, SO GOOD GIRL. I’m impressed. Make them happy, deal? GOOD.
YOUR WORLD RULER IS WORKING ON IT. I don’t know why but I seem to have no contact info for Tim Burton to make all my dreams come true. Dang it, minions, you have failed me. *goes off to grumble*
High five!! The best part about book to movie adaptations is that everything you visualised while reading the book, comes true! So many of these are on my TBR, I need to get to them! I love how you even thought of the directors, I agree with the Marvel overload! 😀
*hi fives you*
*flails*
MARVEL IS ALWAYS THE BEST.
Excellent choices! I agree with pretty much all of these! I’ve always thought, though, that White Cat should be directed by someone like Christopher Nolan. 🙂
Check out my TTT.
I could totally except that!! SOMEONE PETITION CHRISTOPHER NOLAN! HUZZAH!
The only reason I didn’t put The Raven Cycle on my Top Ten Tuesday list is the fact that I would be heartbroken if the movies/tv show was slaughtered. I feel like I’ve been disappointed by a lot of adaptations lately, and this series is maybe too perfect to hand over to Hollywood. I don’t know, I’m so torn!
Okay, that is totally a legit worry. I HEAR YA. I’ve actually felt adaptions going up in quality, but that saying, I haven’t really watched many movies lately so IDEK. I shall wait and hope. 😉
“NOT MADE BY THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE MOVIE DUH” omgg I died from laughing there but no really, how hard was it to afford blond hair dye?? And then they added the blond hair in the 2nd movie, which just made it look like they were trolling us -_-
And tbh if any series has a creepy vibe to it then I need Tim Burton’s style on it!
IT WAS SO CONFUSING. I feel like if they were going to make her brown — THEY NEEDED TO LEAVE IT. But nope. They went and fixed and didn’t even explain why everything was so screwy in the first. *bangs fist against the table* HOW DARE THEY MESS UP PERCY JACKSON LIKE SO. Sometimes I have very intense righteous indignation, but don’t worry. I SHALL SURVIVE.
I think Tim Burton should just make every film ever. Can you imagine if he did The Lunar Chronicles? IT WOULD BE CREEPTASTIC.
Sometimes adaptions scare me. Because there are times it just doesn’t work, like Percy Jackson, or Divergent. I don’t want to see my favorite book crushed and misrepresented on the big screen.
But when it does (The Hunger Games! Those guys had it right on target!), it’s just mind-blowing. I love it so much! (I will say The Hobbit trilogy was amazing! They changed some things, but most of if was for further character development, and characters are awesome.)
Yes! The Lunar Chronicles!
I would love to see The Ascendance Trilogy made into three movies. That would be awesome! It’s fast pace and ripping with tension. It’s perfect for the movies. Plus, the books are so good, they have no reason to feel like they can improve it with changes. *cough*
I hesitate to say One by Leigh Ann Kopans. I just finished it yesterday and it is fantastic! But I’m afraid the movies would get it wrong. All the same, if gave the right impressions, it would be an amazing movie! Perhaps by the Marvel people.
Also the Patrick Bowers series by Stephen James would make an awesome crime series! I would watch that and love it all my life.
Ohhh, you didn’t like Divergent?! I thought it was great! Not perfect like THG but I still really loved it. XD When Tris cried, I cried basically and that neeeever happens. (Okay, I TEARED UP not exactly crying, but close enough.)
Ahhh, I need to finish the Ascendance Trilogy. I DO. But I agree, from the first book anyway, they’d be epic. Is it weird that I could see them in animation?! Like How to Train Your Dragon style vibe?!
I thought Penryn & the End of Days would make a good TV series, too. And I also had The Lunar Chronicles on my list, though as films rather than a TV show; the distict fairytale storylines can’t really be dragged out indefinitely, which is why I think they’d be better as movies.
As for Cinder, I always imagined her as white. She’s Lunar, though, and I have no idea what their original ethnicity is supposed to be.
I think Cinder would be EPIC as a movie, although Im’ worried they’d drop all the sub-plots…I lurve sub plots but I GUESS THEY CAN ONLY DO WHAT THEY CAN DO. *pouts* I feel like Cinder should be black, since Winter is. But if Marissa Meyer says she’s Asian, I AIN’T ARGUING.
AH the Percy Jackson movies SUCKED! They didn’t even make me think of the book at all!
I was just reading The Raven Boys and was LITERALLY THINKING about how it would totally work on screen! Just something about that book is screenworthy. And White Cat? YES! It was an amazing book and why am I not seeing it everywhere?! I also love the Cinder series, but something tells me (it’s my psychic powers, I swear, someday it will happen and I’ll have to remind you I was right) that the person making it into a movie would totally destroy it. I don’t know why! (Again, prophetic powers, probably.)
White Cat (and that whole trilogy actually) are TOTALLY underrated!!! Holly Black’s books are absolutely mind-blowing and GORGEOUSLY FANTASTIC and I always get sad that they’re not everywhere. I shall have to start parading around shouting “HOLLY BLACK! HOLly bLACK!” until I convert everyone. xD
I feel the same way about Patrick Ness and The Knife of Never Letting Go.
AHHHHH RANGER’S APPRENTICE. I love that series. Although, I have to admit that the US covers are a lot less interesting than the Australian ones. I’ve always wanted to rebuy the series with the Aussie covers instead. I heard that someone did buy the film rights for that one, though . . . can’t remember who, and they were having financial trouble.
Also, Penryn and the End of Days is another series I’m reading. I haven’t read End of Days yet either . . . but I need to. The sarcasm in those books is amazing (again, I think I heard that someone bought the film rights to this).
I think that the Ascendance Trilogy should become movies. THOSE BOOKS ARE INCREDIBLE. And they need to do a series of epic movies for Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive.
Also, you find the weirdest words. I’m not sure whether you’re making them up if if they’re real, and I’m not sure whether to be impressed or slightly scared. That word in the title alone scares me.
Yes I heard that too about RA. *weeps softly* It’s such a shame, since they’re so clearly INCREDIBLE books. Gah.
Did you finish World After?! I missed the Raffe/Penryn intense sarcasm, but the dialogue is still ON POINT. I love it!! AND AFJDSLK YES TO THE ASCENDANCE TRILOGOY. I only read the first one but I’ve got to get back into that series. *nods*
THEY ARE REAL. I find them…and I can’t help it. I MUST USE THEM. XD
*weeps softly for RA movie* Yes, I finished World After – and I definitely missed the Raffe/Penryn sass. But it was good. I liked the way it ended. Agh, what are you waiting for? Go finish that trilogy! The next two books are quite possibly better than the first! GO!
Darkest Part of the Forest is on my list too. 🙂
Also, I think I’m the only person alive that liked the Percy Jackson movies a little more than the books. *hides*
(To clarify, I only liked the first movie more, the second movie was pretty terrible, the acting was fine, it was just not a good movie)
CLEARLY our lists are absolutely genius and inspired. *nods* BAHAHA ZOMG I AM OPPOSITE TO YOU! I loved the second movie and hated the first. XD
Great minds and all, thinking alike. ;p
I didn’t really like the books or the movies, but the movies were more entertaining than the books.
(and the lore surrounding how Satyr behave was more accurate in the movies.)
OHMYGOLDFISH I NEED A RANGER’S APPRENTICE TV SERIES SO BAD! AND BY THE PEOPLE THAT DID NARNIA??? I WOULD DIE.
I PARTICULARLY LOVE HOW YOU SAID ON MY GOLDFISH. I WANT TO TAKE UP SAYING THAT. ZOMG. YOU ARE AWESOME.
Seriously Annabeth’s hair! Glad they did it for the second movie, but that bothered me so much when I first watched it. I haven’t read Riordan’s other series, but I would love to see that universe as a show.
And of course I totally agree with The Raven Boys and Penryn and the End of Days being made into movies/shows. Such a good idea for them to be made by Christopher Nolan and the people who made Supernatural! I mean Supernatural already has the murdering angels down pat, so they would be A+ at a show that it all murdering angels!
And it’s so weird. WHY do it in the second movie but not the first?!! What were they thinking?! Gah. BAHAHHA. YES. Supernatural does perfectly at blood everywhere. XD
I haven’t actually read most of these books so I can’t really comment on that BUT I agree about World After. The series would actually make a great movie! I prefer the book Angelfall over the others, although World After was fantastic too. I hope you enjoy the last book though – I have mixed feelings on it, it’s good but not that epic. Great post overall <3
Angelfall was my favourite too!! I MEAN. I still have to read End of the World (or whatever the 3rd book is called) but as soon as I get my clammy paws on it MY LIFE WILL BE INFINITELY BETTER. I love the characters so much. XD
YOU FORGOT THRONE OF GLASS! Haha, sorry. Why wasn’t that on your list? I haven’t read Skulduggery Pleasant, but I’ve read all your reviews, and I gotta say, Tim Burton would be awesome with that. Thou art a genius.
I DID NOT FORGET. Honest! I tossed it up, but…well…I think it’s too similar to Game of Thrones to actually work, you know? I mean, I think ToG is BETTER, hehehe, but I’m biased to YA. XD
I AM WITH YOU ALL THE WAY ON THE LUNAR CHRONICLES AND RANGER’S APPRENTICE. I loved those books, and I agree, RA would make for an awesome TV series. Plus I feel like we’d have more time to explore ALL the different countries out there with visuals and stuff because you kind of have to be focused in a book but film has the wonderful power of panning and extras and other amazing things.
Yes, yes, I love that idea. I’d be okay with another PJO reboot, but I’d still be wary of it and I think I’ve outgrown that age group (well, I’m 18, so all of the people Percy knows that age are dead) and so it’s kinda like, “Eh. I would see it but I’d be dubious.”
LAST THING I LOVE YOU FOR ALL THE LEVERAGE GIFS AT THE END THEY MADE ME HAPPY AND SWELL WITH JOY AND JOYNESS DFJSDLFJ I LOVE THAT SHOW okay bye
AND THE HUMOUR WOULD JUST ROCK. Plus John Flanagan is a full on TV writer and he writes tons of Aussie shows so whyyyy hasn’t anyone got him to do RA?! The world is a MESS, tbh. *stamps foot*
I have Peter Pan syndrome so bad I don’t outgrow nearly ANYTHING. SERIOUSLY. I WAS READING FORTUNATELY THE MILK YESTERDAY AND LOVING IT. *facepalm*
LEVERAGE WILL FOREVER BY MY FAVOURITE. Parker is my favourite. I love Parker.
OMG ONE HAS A CAT ON IT!!!!! CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!
(Sorry about that – I let my inner crazy-cat-lady out :P)
I haven’t actually read any of these (please don’t kill me, I have cake) but I really want to after reading your post! Am I right in thinking that the Lunar Chronicles are fairytale re-tellings? If so, I need to read them ASAP because fairytales and princesses and stuff are just my thing.
Also, I took your advice and did Top Ten Tuesday! I also visited several other blogs and said hello too, because, like you said, you are overlord and you are the best and just GAH! (I seriously fangirled so much when you followed me on Twitter because you have so much fabulousness!)
Here’s my TTT post, if you wanted to have a look: Here’s my TTT post in case you want to take a look: https://hufflepuffthoughts.wordpress.com/2015/06/02/top-ten-tuesday-movie-books/
Great post as usual!
*hands cake*
HAVE YOU READ WHITE CAT? BECAUSE YOU REALLY NEED TO GET ONTO THAT. Just sayin’.
I shall not kill you, I shall consume your cake and quell my rage that way. BAH HAHAHA JUST KIDDING. I’m not angry! XD But seriously, they’re all excellent so if you need and recs..*whistles innocently*
YAAYY!! I’M GOING TO GO READ YOUR TTT POST ASAP!!
Awesome list!! I think we have three of them on common: Lunar Chronicles, The Darkest Part of the Forest and of course the Gone series. Did you hear that Michael Grant is in talks with someone about making a series out of them?? Our wish may just come true. Yay!!!
ZOMG. I HAD NOT HEARD THAT. But, tbh, I hear lots of books are “in talk”…gah. Like Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Shadow & Bone and All the Bright Places…But Red Rising apparently has a screen play!
I used to love when my favorite books became movies, but I’ve been disappointed too many times, and now I’m terrified of them. I mean, the idea is great, but not only do so many movies stomp all over books, they also tend to create a ginormous, often superficial fan group. All the hype somehow lessens my own love of the book. I think a Raven Boys adaptation might literally kill me. (No, I’m not prone to exaggerate, what are you talking about?) I think Vicious would be amazing, though, as would the Lunar Chronicles. I loved them, but I’m not *as* attached to them as, say, Daughter of Smoke of Bone, whose upcoming movie adaptation I’m dreading.
On the flip side, the Lord of the Rings movies are the most glorious things ever created, and I will be forever grateful that they exist.
AWk, I have no idea how well DoSaB will translate to movie. *shakes with nervousness* I mean, yes, it’d be cool visually but so much of it is that beautiful prose. I’M WORRIED. I think adaptions are getting better though! Sure there’s Eragon *shudders* and Percy Jackson BUT! There’s Catching Fire! And the Maze Runner! SO THERE IS HOPE IN THE DARKNESS.
Vicious is being optioned for a movie!!!!!!! I would totally see that movie! Angellfall would be a scary movieXD
AHHHH MY DAY HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN MADE, THEN.
I’m so glad I’ve actually found a Top Ten Tuesday post with a book I’ve read it! Since Gone is the only one I can agree on solidly, but I definitely do. I actually considered including it in my own TTT list, but I couldn’t decide whether I would want to see it in movie or TV show format. I get what you’re saying on it being a TV show but there are a few slower points in amongst the action, so I’m not sure how they would segregate it into episodes?
I think I want to read every other book you’ve included on the list though, and once I’ve got to them through my 372046 book long TBR list, they might already be on screen so I won’t have to wait!
I’m crazy excited for the Shadowhunters show too! I’ve got to say though all the kerfuffle that’s been going on around it on twitter in the past couple of days has really made the fans of the books look bad. Cassandra Clare’s decision to stay out of it was the right one I think. Even though I’m sad it happened, it’s good that there are at least a few members of the fandom standing up for CC.
Loved the pictures btw!
They’d probably cut episodes every time a kid dies, because, let’s face it: THERE ARE A LOT OF DEATHS. *cries over favourite characters* AGH! I hear you with the #9350389 books in the TBR. Mine looks like that too. xD
Zomg, I didn’t hear anything about a kerfuffle on twitter?! WHAT HAPPENED?!! I’m deathly curious now. :O
Stick? *sniffles* where is stick? STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK *sobs*
I’ve seen a few list the spin of Percy Jackson as an awesome TV series today, I haven’t started the series yet, but they’d have to ensure that no one involved in the Percy films would be involved, Those were honestly horrid. Tim Burton should make EVERYTHING. How fun would ads be if he created them all. Toilet paper ads would never be the same again. No comment on The Raven Boys though, I just don’t get the hype. I liked her Wolves of Mercy Falls series for the most part, but TRB, I just didn’t get it. I couldn’t even finish it. Maybe if it WERE to be made into a TV series, I might have more luck. Look at The 100. Crap book, awesome show.
MY DOG ATE THE STICK. It was sad but we’re coming to terms with it now. *nods sorrowfully*
Yes Tim Burton should make everything. Why on earth doesn’t he? And why haven’t they cloned him yet? That’s solve the problems. We’d just have tons of Tim Burtons running around making ALL THE MOVIES and life would be great and probably (let’s face it) terrifying.
I’M JUST GONNA PRETEND YOU DIDN’T INSULT TRB. hehe. Okay, but honestly, not every book is for everyone and I can’t force you to be right like me, obviously. *pats TRB to make sure it still feels loved*
I WANT TO READ ALL THE ONES YOU MARKED WITH TIM BURTON. BECAUSE I LOVE TIM BURTON’S MOVIES SO MUCH.
And I feel like the only person how hasn’t read Cinder yet…
Book to movie–THE NIGHT CIRCUS. Although the actual visuals might not match the utter perfection that was the book’s descriptions. XD
~Jamie
TIM BURTON IS LIKE MY FAVOURITE, TBH. AND DANNY ELFMAN NEEDS TO COMPOSE THE SOUNDTRACKS FOR ALL THESE BOOKS AS WELL. *nods* Someone make it happen before I explode flailing!!!
WELL. READ CINDER AND FIX THIS. XDXD Hehe. No, but seriously, it is fantastic. XD
Love your list (and your footnotes. We should form a footnotes club). I want to read “Vicious” so badly now, especially after looking at that gif and thinking about it.
And I have always pictured Cinder as Asian, or at least part Asian. And aren’t they making a “Ranger’s Apprentice” movie?
DUDE. YES. Footnotes are life. LIFE, I TELL YOU.
AGh, I know right?! The author of RA is actually a screenwriter so it beeeegs for a movie.
HOW have I never seen The Darkest Part of the Forest book trailer?! HOW?! I love that book! I even put it on my Top Ten Tuesday, too. I have never been a huge fan of faerie books, but Holly Black and Sarah J. Maas are slowly converting me. And I just finished The Dream Thieves on Sunday, and OH MY GOD. It is even better than the first, which was seriously difficult. I’m also SO excited for the Shadowhunters TV show. Since the movie flopped, you wouldn’t think it would get another chance, but it did!
ISN’T IT INCREDIBLE AND CHILLING?!! I love it. Tim Burton would love it. Someone go tell him about it. *hyperventilates*
It would be SO AWESOME as a Time Burton movie! OMIGOD I NEED THIS NOW!
Yes!!! They totally should make a TV series of Rick Riordan’s second series. That would be amazing. But with a different cast and everything. I mean Annabeth does NOT have brown hair. Ugh. And that “wake up” GIF is totally me at the directors.
Also, wouldn’t Harry Potter be awesome as a TV series? Well, part of me would like it, and part of me would probably hate it because it just wouldn’t be the same as the movies….
And the Lunar Chronicles, I haven’t actually read those books. But I plan on it. I’ve heard they’re really good, and pretty much everyone thinks they should be made into movies.
That wake up gif is EVERYONE at the directers. ERMAGERD. I can’t believe they mangled it so much. They even had awesome actors so I don’t know what went wrong exactly. O_o
But the HP movies are great!! I can’t really see them remade…I’d always have the first actors in my brain. XD But maybe one day it could happen right?!! LIKE EVERYTHING GETS REMADE EVENTUALLY. XDXD
Yessss I’ve always said the Lunar Chronicles would be such pretty movies! *swoons*
I would add Artemis Fowl because who DOESN’T want to see fairies and teenage evil geniuses on-screen. And also the Chaos Walking trilogy because it would be disturbing and just great. *flails*
YES to Chaos Walking. Gee I need to finish those books because Patrick ajfdlksa Ness. Also..*whispers* Can you believe I’ve never read Artemis Fowl?
World after sounds like it would be terrific, and the people behind Supernatural would probably make it even grittier.
ERK. I know right?! I WOULD DIE HAPPY. Or from feels.
I cannot believe I haven’t seen The Raven Boys on a list before now! You could just set me adrift on happy little fangirl sea for that one. I might actually go see a movie then.
Also, Vicious. I haven’t read the book myself yet, it’s on my owned TBR so I will as soon as it is unpacked, but if I did not have plans to read it, your post would have changed my mind.
REALLY?!! **Gasps** I thought TRB would be everywhere on this week’s TTT because it’d make suuuuch a good movie. Or TV series. I’m flexible. XD
Thank you for visiting my blog!
I absolutely love that you included directors and such! That is so awesome!
I am super late to the Lunar Chronicles party. I haven’t read the books but I am planning too.
Tina, The Bookworm
Hehe, next time I’ll add in composers too because movie soundtracks are the beeeest. I hope you do try the Lunar Chronicles someday! THEY’RE PRETTY DANG EXCELLENT.
Yes, to the Lunar Chronicles. A show, please, I think they would strip the politics out of a movie and make it all about the love stories.
Terri M., the Director
Second Run Reviews
YUP. YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN. XD I think they also wouldn’t be able to fit in aaaall the little sub-plots in a movie so TV SERIES IT MUST BE.
YES to the Lunar Chronicles, but I’d rather they make a movie or a series of movies instead of a TV show because I don’t really watch TV shows. I agree that the series perfectly suits itself to being visually adapted because the setting and the characters and the sci-fi elements are all so rich. I really need to see all of these characters and the whole sci-fi-y setting in visual form NOW.
The special effects would be amazing for Lunar chronicles. LIKE JUST IMAGINE GOING TO THE MOON?!! I worry that movies wouldn’t get all the little plots and stuff though, because, omg, there’s so much. :O But wouldn’t Iko be perfect on screen. YES AND YES.
I’m kinda thinking that Riordan’s new Norse books would make fun movie- granted, they’re not out yet, but some Norse goodness on screen might be fun!
Basically ALL THE RICK RIORDAN. I haven’t finished his second PJ series, but after that I’m trying the Kane Chronicles. xD
I died at the Ranger’s Apprentice quote and what you said about it. XD I SERIOUSLY NEED TO READ THESE THINGS BECAUSE EPIC FANTASY THAT’S HILARIOUS BY AN AUSTRALIAN. So yes I think it would be a fabulous TV show because there’s not enough awesome fantasy movies. *nod nod*
I WONDERED IF YOU WOULD SAY THE CURSEWORKER TRILOGY AND YES YOU DID YES YES. ASLDKFJDLKJ THAT WOULD BE AWESOME IF THE LEVERAGE PEOPLE MADE IT. YESH. Perfection, guys.
And I don’t know what I’d like to be made into a movie… Mostly I’m just a bookworm and while I love movies I ultimately prefer books usually because books are my first love and then movies mess them up because I’m one of those annoying people who hates changes. XD BUT there are some books that would be fabulous as movies and I just can’t think of any right now. O_O
I just read “Illusionarium” by Heather Dixon (my first Steampunk, yay!) and it should TOTALLY be a movie! It would be amazing and gorgeous and epic. (Except for the creepiness but I’ll just pretend like I don’t remember that. >.>)
AWESOME POST AND PHOTOGRAPHY AS ALWAYS.
PLUS the RA author is like a screenwriter and iT’S JUST TOO PERFECT AND OPPORTUNITY FOR THE WORLD TO BE MISSING OUT ON. Why hasn’t someone funded this? HMMMM. The world fails me. *glares*
Ohhh, creepiness? I want to look up Illusionarium now! XD I love creepy. LURVE IT.
MY GOODNESS YES YOU DO LOVE CREEPY. O.O OF COURSE YOU WOULD LOVE ILLUSIONARIUM THEN. XD (Plus it’s in first person from the POV of a guy and the last time I read one of those it was the White Cat books… So this hero Jonathan reminds me for some reason of Cassel and Hiccup from the movies. XD)
OKAY I’VE ADDED IT ON GOODREADS FOR SURE THEN. Although I read loads of POVs from guys, but I like it when they’re really well done. Basically Cassel. Ma stupid baby.
I think Susan Ee’s books would be great as a tv series. It’s spooky and there are lots of awesome elements and places to embellish and good places to stop each episode or season. Some should do this!! I really want to see The Lunar Chronicles and The Raven Boys on the big screen too!! Great picks, hun!!
It basically BEGS for an tv series, plus the dialogue would translate SO WELL.
Awesome choices! The Lunar Chronicles made my list as well. I love the diversity of the series, and having a TV show based off of Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and the others? Yes, please!
Heroes of Olympus would make a great TV show as well! I saw the first movie, and I didn’t like it all that much, which was very disappointing. I have yet to see “Sea of Monsters”, though (I was actually surprised when they turned the second book into a movie, not that I’m complaining!), so hopefully it’ll be better!
The Ranger’s Apprentice series looks super good. Especially because long fantasy series are my favorite thing. The only problem is, my library is missing numbers: 1, 2, 4, and 11, and 13. They have been the whole year, I keep checking back. 🙁 *disappointment* Alas, I’ll look elsewhere for those books!
Again, great posts, and seeing a new post on your blog always cheers up my day, even if I don’t comment very often. ^-^
And Levana!! Some episodes focused on Levana and her origin into evilness would be soooo epic. SOMEBODY NEED MAKE THIS HAPPEN. I definitely think Sea of Monsters is better, but, well…it still leaves a lot to be desired, and it doesn’t exactly follow the book. xD BUT STILL. It is funny.
Awww,!!! Thanks, Emma!! I’m so glad you enjoy reading my rambling. XD
First off, I totally agree that The Help & The Hunger Games (Catching Fire in particular) movies were AMAZING.
I totally agree that Percy Jackson would make a FABULOUS TV series. And yes, not made by the ones who made the movies, please. But I would love the first series to be turned into a TV series… Not too fond of the second series because the last book and I did not get along. 🙁
YES ALSO TO LUNAR CHRONICLES. I’m with you on Team Author. Asian Cinder would be amazing and I will kiss the TV if this happens. (Especially once Wolf and Captain Thorne finally appear.)
OMG REALLY?! now you’re making me nervous about the last second-series-Rick-Riordan book. XD I’m up to House of Hades and so far pretty much in love. **gulps** I WILL PRETTY MUCH DIE OF HAPPINESS IF THEY MADE THE LUNAR CHRONICLES INTO A MOVIE/TV SERIES. Unless they messed it up. Then I might cry.
YESSS the Cinder series and Raven Boys and everything, my god that would be AMAZING! Cinder is definitely asian, she’s a cyborg in China who has asian roots. So is Prince Kai! Vicious would totally be awesome as well, my gosh that would be delicious.
But it’s just that Winter (who is technically Cinder/Selene’s cousin) is black…SO YEAH. It can be confusing. I always pictured her as Asian though. AHHHH KAI. THE ADORABLENESS. *ships quite aggressively*
I definitely see CInder as Asian. That doesn’t neccessarily make sense as SHE’S A LUNAR, but she could be decended from people originally from Asia who migrated to Luna?
I feel like I’m one of the only people who liked the Percy Jackson movies, but now having read the books the inaccuracies are glaringly obvious.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell would make an awesome film. It’d be nice to have flashes of the Simon Snow scenes amidst the romcom about Fanfiction <3
I always saw Cinder as Asian until I realised Winter has really dark skin. So, as cousins, shouldn’t Cinder have dark skin too?! I AM SO CONFUSED. *wails* I guess Lunar is very multi-cultural.
I laughed a LOT in Sea of Monsters!! I kind of like that movie, although it’s totally different from the book. But that first one?! Not for me, sadly. 🙁
OHhh, yes! The magical fantasy flashes would be epic.
I needed my The Darkest Part of the Forest film and the Heroes of Olympus TV series LAST MONTH! I haven’t read the rest but I support because, duh, you’re awesome. Just, please, no more Brendon Thwaites as 12-year-old Jonas or Theo James as teenage Tobias. I mean. Ugh.
I recently finished Vanishing Girl and, if I’m remembering correctly is your fave Oliver title. I. need. a. film. adaptation. of. this!!! Gaaah. Also, Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Winger but, like, only from the finestest. Preferably with Josh Boone (Stuck in Love, TFIOS) helming and John Bailey (The Way, Way Back) doing the cinematography.
Oh gosh! I messed up the italization! Hahaha!
HAHA. I just though you were really into the italics today. 😉
HAHAHAHHAHA. No to Theo James. -_- I really felt he was awkward as Four because Tris-as-Shailene-Woodley looks so much younger. #awkwardmuch AHEM. AND FAJDSKLA YES TO VANISHING GIRLS. It would make an epic movie. Made by the people who are doing Paper Towns…*nods* It needs to happen.
Ooooh, The Darkest Part of the Forest! I didn’t have that on my list, but only because it didn’t occur to me. That would be a fantastic, dark movie. I agree with the choice of Tim Burton–he did appear on my list, several times.
Also, your photography is gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to get better at book photos.
C.J.
Sarcasm & Lemons
P.S. We spell Cait the same way. Rock on.
Eek. THANK YOU. XD I have a new camera and experimenting is my new hobby. XD OHH ARE YOU A CAIT TOO?!! *hi fives*
I AM. I’ve seen more of us in the book blogging world than I had in the entire rest of my life. Caits have good taste.
A Percy Jackson tv show? give it to me! give it to me now 😀 that would be amazing and someone needs to make it happen soon 😀 Great list as always Cait. Happy reading!
The Penryn and the End of Days series would be fabulous for a movie or show. And of course yes to The Lunar Chronicles, and The Darkest Part of the Forest- that would be epic! I really need to read Vicious, like, yesterday. It just sounds so very good!
But more than any of those things, I love your picture of White Cat, it looks so pretty!
So many amazing books on this list! I’d love to see the Heroes of Olympus done right. How hard is the hair colour to get right, seriously? And Skulduggery Pleasant! Why did I not add that to my list? If they made that into a TV series, I would watch it and buy it and the t-shirt and mug. There is only one word for Stiefvater being movies/TV series. YES!
Oooh! I unfortunately haven’t read very many of these books, but from the ones I have read, I can tell this list is EVERYTHING. (Plus a high-five for mentioning Shadowhunters because OMG I can’t help but be thrilled that it’s happening, plus yay for new diverse castings.)
The Lunar Chronicles is so wonderfully paced and action-packed and cinematic but also diverse and original and thrilling that of course it must be adapted. I think I might prefer to see this series as a film series, but I’d be open to TV as well (OHH MY GOODNESS I HAD A THOUGHT—I’D LOVE TO SEE A LUNAR CHRONICLES SERIES FROM THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE 100 AAAAGH). I think the general consensus on Cinder’s ethnicity is that she’s mixed-race (Asian/Caucasian most likely); I’m pretty sure Marissa has stated this herself on multiple occasions. And I agree with EVERYTHING you said on the Ranger’s Apprentice, right down to the fact that the series should be adapted by the Narnia people. Eeeek. Also! I am ALL THE EXCITE on the thought of the Raven Cycle being adapted by Christopher Nolan because I’d never considered it before BUT IT’D BE PERFECT. A TRC adaptation would also be the perfect place to inject the series with some more diversity, IMO.
So thank you for creating this wonderful list! ALL OF THESE MUST HAPPEN.
That trailer is amazing and creepy and fantastic. I do hope the book doesn’t leave me in terror, but… I WANT TO READ IT. I think I’d be too creeped out, judging by that trailer, to watch an animated film of it (I’m thinking Coraline), but I’m so going to give the book a good chance at winning me over. I’d love to see the Lunar Chronicles as a movie rather than a TV show (I guess I’m more likely to enjoy something that is more standalone than a TV show?), and I’m listening to the first Rangers Apprentice book on audio at the moment. I’m actually not too sure of it, the bullying was really uncomfortable for me, but I’ll push on for a bit more. Nice list, Cait! xx
OH SO MUCH YES. PJO, the Lunar Chronicles, and the Raven Cycle?! I would watch and rewatch those series over and over and over again. And laugh and cry and probably throw things at the season finales even though I already know what’s going to happen. Basically this needs to happen. I’ve never seen a TV show that’s based off of a book series, but I’m so excited for “Shadowhunters.” 🙂 I would happily watch others, too.
Also, Throne of Glass needs to be a movie. And the people who do the LoTR movies needs to do it.
You’ve got a lot of wonderful choices here! I see the Lunar Chronicles! YAS YAS YES ALL THE YESES PLEASE. I mean, I want to see this so SO badly. I mean, it would make such a good movie. <3 And I like how you mentioned the Heroes of Olympus should not be made by the same people who made the other movies. I have to agree with you there. If they try to enforce themselves to do it, we can start a patrol, a march or whatever and thwart their plans.
I think The Body Electric by Beth Revis would also make a good movie.
