It’s time to get both COLOURFUL and EMOTIONAL while I make up a book tag and splatter it over my blog.
Like the blogging professional I am. I have not blogged (nearly) 7 years for nothing without becoming an eloquent and intelligible blogger of words.
Haha.
Ok now that the jokes are out of the way: I thought it’d be fun to list out the colours of the rainbow and the emotions that tend to be associated with them! Consider this an impromptu book tag too, so you’re welcome to steal the categories for your own blog! The toll is: cake for me and also your soul. Which is reasonable and fair I feel.
This is also a great time to get thoroughly emotional over books. So use your emotions today! If you have them! I have 3 and they are: going fast, lunch, and confusion. This is typical, I guess?? So anyway.
Top Ten Tuesday: Books With My Favourite Colour On the Cover (or In the Title) —> this is a bit of a stretch to fit the prompt but I AM LOKI. I CANNOT BE CONTAINED. And we’re working with colours here so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1. BLUE → BOOK THAT MADE YOU SAD.
You know what? I’m just going to go ahead and say All The Bright Places because it DEVASTATED ME. And it’s blue. So I’m winning here. Mind you I actually read this book in 2014 and I am like Gandalf squinting at those creepy mines saying: I HAVE NO MEMORY OF THIS PLACE. Same, Gandalf, same. I’d like to do a reread because why run face first into a brick wall once, when you can do it TWICE?!!?!?
2. RED → BOOKWORM PROBLEMS THAT MAKE YOU ANGRY.
Look some bookworm problems are actual TIDAL WAVES OF MONSTROSITY and it’s ok to stamp your foot a little and get red in the face. And I named myself paper FURY for a good reason, so here are some things that just rile me up:
- when bookmail arrives damaged = YOU HAD ONE JOB OK. ONE JOB.
- being denied everything on Netgalley/Edelweiss = my ratio is great, my blog is great, my ABILITY TO BE BATMAN is great! And yet all I get are denials…I’m getting kind of mad now, people. Who do I need to sacrifice.
- when the weather curls my books = I will take this up with humidity and I will shout
- stickers on book covers = this is nearly a hate-cliche BUT I HATE IT SO MUCH. I just got a copy of To Kill A Kingdom which is sooo exciting and there’s a frikkin sticker ruining the front cover.
- when the instagram algorithm sabotages me = i will stab you with a fork @ instagram. I will. It’s so depressing to work really hard + get a lot of followers…and then proceed to have no one see your work because the algorithm is a monster.
3. YELLOW → UPCOMING BOOK YOU’D BE HAPPY TO HAVE RIIIIGHT NOW.
Do I have plenty to read right now? Yes. Do I angstily earn for books that aren’t even close to being published? ALSO YES. Will I wait patiently?
SOLID NO.
What if the book fairy godmother just accidentally brought me these, hmm??? I would give my soul but LOL that ship has sailed, how do you think I got a book deal. *
* KIDDING! I got a book deal because no one’s realised I don’t understand grammar yet. We’re fine this is fine everything is going to be fine.
4. GREEN → FAVOURITE UNLIKELY FRIENDS.
This is one of my FAVOURITE tropes! But friends who you look at and are like: “How do they even work???” But they do because they’re wild contrasts somehow fit nicely together.
I’m nominating the Six of Crows gang for this one because none of them should work bUT THEY DO. And it’s beautiful and so pure. A basic summary:
Kaz: Now remember! What are we getting out of this heist?!
Matthias: justice
Inej: retribution to evil
Nina: waffles afterwards
Jesper: moneyyy and a good tiiiiiiiime
Wylan: [crying softly] friends
5. GREY → BOOK YOU ARE TOTALLY EMOTIONLESS ABOUT.
There are some books you strongly hate and some you strongly love. But the worst? The MEH books. I’m so indifferent, they could literally turn me into a frog and I’d be all
- Classics: Like basically all of them. I have put pretty much no effort into caring. Like apparently I should care that I haven’t read many…and yet no.
- Three Dark Crowns: I didn’t mind it but also I am looking in all my pockets for the interest to read more in the series and I ??? Empty.
- Divergent: I used to wildly love this (and wildly defend the finale) and then the movies appeared to make my wheeze-laugh so bad I took a 5 minute break in Insurgent, and I think it’s been 2 years now??? I just don’t caaaaare anymore.
6. PINK → BOOK ENDING (NO SPOILERS THOUGH!) THAT YOU LOOOOVE.
This post is just descending into LISTS within LISTS but since I see no downside, I’ll just keep at it.
- Chaos Walking = PERFECTION
- The Raven Cycle = It wasn’t what I predicted but still so so good?????
- The Mortal Instruments = aHHHHHHH THAT WAS JUST FANTASTIC.
- A Darker Shade of Magic = [wheezing after being stabbed in the feels] jUST THE BEST TRULY
7. PURPLE → BOOK YOU NEVER REALLY UNDERSTOOD??
I just don’t understand Andrew Smith’s books. I JUST DON’T. The crass humour, the weird metaphors, the mixture of realism and bizarreness?? I’m taking my sandwich elsewhere to eat with someone I understand.
Also A.S. King. My brain just crumbled to a dead end trying to figure out what the heck Still Life With Tornado even was.
And I don’t understand the love for Sarah J Maas. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Look at me feeling 0% bad.
8. WHITE → AUTHOR YOU’RE SCARED OF (THEY’RE SO MEAN TO THEIR CHARACTERS!)
OK some authors just need to be SENT BACK TO THEIR DARK BOX to sit for a while and they can come out when they choose to be nice to their characters. I just sghsigh shgihsg.
- VE Schwab = the meanest
- Patrick Ness = pure monster
- Sally Green = I’m never going to be ok
- Adam Silvera = he thrives on our suffering i’m sure of it
- Jay Kristoff = waits for you to say “thank you” while he stabs your heart
PS. In case it’s not obvious. I LOVE THESE AUTHORS SO MUCH. I’m just cosplaying a waterfall, this is nothing.
9. BLACK → BOOK YOU THINK IS POWERFUL AND INFLUENTIAL.
I definitely think The Hate U Give took the world by storm last year and was totally needful! And I think Cassandra Clare?! She writes so so much (!! that’s incredible in itself) and actually takes time to give tons of readers fantasy starring diverse characters. Seeing an autistic Shadowhunter really changed my world ok ajfdksald I have emotions about the Blackthorns.
10. ORANGE → PLAYFUL CHARACTERS WHO ARE JUST TOO ADORABLE.
As much as I love books full of stab and spice and explosions…I really really am a sucker for the soft™ sweet cinnamon children that books bless us with. Give me Hufflepuffs and give me adorable moments. And then stab ’em all. Keep it balanced.
But I’m going to say LARA JEAN because she is just so adorable. And also August from This Savage Song, who is the monster of your nightmares and so tender and smol. And because I’m Stiefvater trash … Noah! Who is just a smudge in the background, but somehow also one of the most important characters in the entire series?! BLESS NOAH.
Yay you made a book tag. Okay I never get approved for anything on eldeweiss so I feel your pain, let’s plot our revenge together. I keep seeing the hype around muse of nightmares and that makes me want to read it too even though I haven’t read the first book. I’m so going to steal this tag, I’ll pay you in cake and pie for it.. Haha
omggg yes let’s plot REVENGE. I will bring the cakes and you bring the evil plans.😂 And omg Strange the Dreamer is SO good, so you should definitely read it! And also do steal this tag because I want to see your answers.😂
wow you have the most random associations with colour haha. but I’m into it! It’s so weird how you can enjoy a book but then? just? stop caring. Idk, it’s happened with me for so many series now and it makes me sad but then it’s like where is the loss there are a lot more books waiting for me out there. THUG is defs influential! I think DoSaB made a pretty large impact with the ~scope ~ of the series too. but all the other influential books I can think of are not YA. I’m terrified of you tbh. (as an author not as a person, I know you’re a lovely person )
Okay but I GOOGLED MOST OF THESE.😂 So it’s not just me associating random things with colours lmao. (But really…I am random and weird.😂) But I agree right?! That whole “I used to love this but now…eh” is such an odd feeling. It kind of feels like and old friend leaving you. *cries*
(Don’t be scaaared of me as an author. *pats shoulder in a definitely friendly and not creepy way*)
I’m finding this absolutely fascinating, I would never have categorised books based on their cover. There’s.been so many books over the years that have had such a massive influence on myself as a reader. Seeing the diversity of characters coming through is beautiful, I absolutely adore those.Blackthorn children. I still don’t think I’ve cried as must as I did with , Mockingjay. Really.interesting.to.to see others .comments on this one < 3 <3
I looove how diverse books are on the rise and just rULING THE WORLD!! It’s so empowering and encouraging ahhh. And omg Mockingjay hit me in the feels so bad. I still haven’t seen the movies because I don’t want to relive that.😂
I only just found out Running With Lions is on Netgalley and I wished for it but I have no hopes ahaha. I rarely get approved on NG. I only have more luck on Edelweiss with HarperCollins and imprints because I’m pre-approved for those. (BTW, my offer for What If It’s Us still stands.)
And I am totally emotionless about classics too. I mean… people love them?? but I just??? can’t seem to care??? The writing just totally loses me every time.
I also don’t get the love for Sarah J. Maas anymore. I’m just… clueless really because there’s so much problematic stuff in them and great that people love them but I just… don’t… care… And yes those authors are mean to their characters but THEN AGAIN WE ARE TOO OCCASIONALLY SO.
Now you know I’m not into Cassandra Clare’s books… Nothing against them, they’re just not my thing?? I can never get into them. Yes I’m sad about this too. BUT so much yes for THUG because GOD that book is so powerful and I want to re-read but at the same time I can’t because it’s just SO real.
Eghhh same though for Negalley approvals. I basically get nothing unless it’s a lowkey book. 😂 And omg classics are just…I HAVE NO FEELINGS ABOUT THEM AT ALL. Take ’em, leave ’em, use them for a ladder. I don’t care. *shrugs* 😂
At least the rabid love for SJM books has died down a bit lol lol, but it’s beyond bizarre. And I feel like people like them because they’re full of sex (AND THEY’RE NOT EVEN YA) because nothing else about them seems interesting?! I’m still salty they keep wining the YA CATEGORY AWARDS ON GOODREADS THOUGH. Gah.
Me today: Okay I’ve got this big final test (only Part A of it, though; Part B is in June) so I’ve gotta calm down.
Me: …
Me: Let’s read Paper Fury!
Was not disappointed. 😂
THIS IS FANTASTIC. LOOK AT ME BEING A BAD INFLUENCE HERE.😂
Cool post!! lol it was kinda all over the place but I liked it! I probably would have chosen Healing or Good Vibes for the Green prompt over Friendship, or maybe Pure, Adorable Characters for White. But yours were great! I loved the Grey and the Yellow prompts 😂😂 those were the best.
I’m kinda scared of John Green actually. Because a lot of the time I don’t even CARE that much about the story or the characters…… but the end STILL leaves me wanting to cry! How does he do that?!? Idk
Hmmm an influential book…… I can’t really pick out a single one, but I think that just the fact that there is sooo much diversity in YA now is really powerful and beautiful- everyone can find themselves represented in a story. Which is great, cause why have only one influential book when we have a whole library?
All over the place? Um ok.
Anyway definitely agree John Green is scary! His books seem to always be devastating. 😭
I love how you made a book tag out of this week’s topic! I’m gonna have to start thinking about what I would list with this tag. Also I 100% agree with all of your bookworm problems.
My TTT: https://bookworm716.blogspot.com/2018/05/top-ten-tuesday-favorite-pink-book.html
Ahh I’m so glad you enjoyed this! It was fun to shake things up a bit haha.😂
Marie Lu and James Dashner to me are scary authors cause they put on these disguises in their books of being nice and fun and then kill all your favorite characters. Especially Dashner.
I feel like all good books are influential in some way, like what’s the point if it doesn’t have some good message of bits of wisdom? But some i found influential for me are
Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus-especially Heroes of Olympus because they are about heroism and people of all different types working together and standing up for good no matter who it’s against and that blue food is real food (that’s the truest one)
Warcross-I’ll never look at VR the same way again.
Eliza and Her Monsters-I’ve never related to a book so much
And I’ve been meaning to read The Hate U Give but my library never has it, how rude.
Finally! Someone’s talking about feeling meh about books! It’s so weird because books typically always make me feel something but when it doesn’t it’s just like “you had one job”
Ahh these lovely authors pretending to be all for us and then MURDER AND MURDER AND DARKNESS AND BOOM. 😭 *cries in the corner*
I do think there ARE books that aren’t particularly influential to me but I still loved them. 😂Like my life didn’t change reading Jenny Han’s Lara Jean books but I love them to pieces!? If that makes sense ha.
I love Percy Jackson! And Eliza! And THUG is definitely one to read someday!
Omg meh books are the worst because you can’t even HATE them, it’s just like “eh I have no feelings at all here”.
All the Bright Places destroyed me, too. I thought it was supposed to be about BRIGHT PLACES?! The title lied. Stickers on book covers also make me angry. Why do booksellers think this is okay? I’m scared of George RR Martin. He probably won’t finish his giant book series, and if he does, I’m afraid he’ll kill everyone I love.
Bright Places…pffft. *cries for 900 years* And I’m like 99% sure booksellers are influenced by Pure Evil with their stickers grrrrr.
George RR Martin will totally end with everyone dead. 😭😭
This is such a random little tag 😀 and also, kind of synaesthesiac! (Wait is that a word) (I have it tho)
Agreed about Silvera though. Never reading anything by him AGAIN because I just can’t handle it 😀
I googled for the colours to what emotions/things they fit with!!😂 My sister is a little bit synaesthesiac but I’m sooo not.😂 (SILVERA IS WONDERFUL BUT I ALSO AM TRAUMATISED.)
NOAH IS A SMUDGE THAT I DEARLY LOVE AND DESERVES EVERTYHING MY POOR BOY.
okay but your six of crows example had me laughing it’s great. It reminded me of those scenes where it is like Kaz asks them a question and then everyone answers and Matthias is like “you’re all horrible.” NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED MUSE OF NIGHTMARES AND THE WICKED KING AND JUST!! AL THE SEQUELS OKAY?! Like Uhm KING OF FOOLS, and King Of Scars (N I N A ZENIK I LOVE HER *CRYING AND WAILING*) Also I would be VERY happy to have your 2019 book in my hands, JUST SAYIN’.
an author i’m SCARED of…PROBABLY SHCWAB TOO SHE HAS BROKEN MY HEART SO MANY TIMES. But I have to say Marie Lu as well because thelast book in the Legend triology DAMN I CRIED SO MUCH.
(also wow you have been so on top of your postin game!!) I
THE CUTEST SMUDGE IN THE WORLD AND HE DESERVES EVERYTHING PRECIOUS THING. *pauses for some Noah Czerny feels* (Did I spell his name right lol lol.)
YES. Six of Crows is just sitting here wanting to be a meme.😂I love it. And Muse of Nightmares omggg why is it taking so long. I mean, I know Laini Taylor needs more time to write her books bUT I’M DYING AFTER THAT LAST BOOK’S ENDING. King of Fools tho. I want. And also King of Scars. All the Kings. (We get more Nina?! Isn’t this the best thing ever?!)
Schwab literally thrives on our pain.
One of the first things I did when I turned 18 was sign up for Netgalley, and I was so happy when I got approved for the first book I requested, but it sounds like that’s not normal? xD Do you usually get turned down for stuff you request?
STICKERS ON BOOK COVERS OMG YES. It drives me especially crazy when it comes to library books and where they put the barcodes. Why would you cover up the book description???
There’s a chapter preview for What If It’s Us at the end of Leah on the Offbeat and it made me so happy. Have you read it yet?
Duuuude you are wonderfully lucky! hhaha. Yeah I get denied for mostly everything.😂I mean some of it is because I’m Australian, but some of my Aussie friends don’t have the problem SO. I think I’ve been blacklisted. *cries*😂😂
STICKERS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. SOMEONE MAKE ME QUEEN OF THE WORLD AND I’LL FIX THIS.
(I’m reading What If It’s Us right now actually ahh!!)
OH I LOVE THIS TAG! Will definitely be sneakily borrowing it for when I need more blog content 🙂 I have many authors who scare me, VE Schwab is definitely one, I know you’re not a big fan, but Sarah J Maas is another, she tortures her characters and my feelings and it is NOT OKAY, Rick Riordan’s endings scare me because I don’t trust him not to pull another Mark of Athena style cliffhanger on us again. Idk, basically all authors scare me a little, I’m a writer, I know how cruel we can be to our own characters! I agree with most of these, though I’d probably go for black as authors that scare me. I am also completely emotionless about most classics, the style just doesn’t work for me at all, the only ones I’ve ever really loved with the same wild abandon that I have for my YA books are Black Beauty and Ballet Shoes. As for influential books, I feel like Noughts and Crosses did for me what THUG is doing for everyone now, because it was the first book I ever read that examined racism in any real way and it was my entry point into YA, so I’ll always love it for that.
I’m so glad ahhh!! I had fun making this haha.
And Schwab is TERRIFYING. She has no chill and I think she does thrive on our hearts and souls so like…yep. Scared.😂But Rick Riordan can be mean with the cliffhangers but I feel like he always gives everyone cuddly endings?!😂So I’m not too worried haha. But so so many authors scare me omg I agree. It’s like they get together and discuss how best to hurt us.
I need to read Noughts and Crosses!!
I loooovvveeee this book tag? I’m definitely stealing it! Also, I’d totally give you my soul, but I’m a ginger, and we have no souls, so we’re out of luck. (Just realized, I can’t make horcruxes? Because of the whole ginger problem? IS THIS WHY THE WEASLEYS WERE SO PURE AND GOOD???)
ASKJLKLD, back to the point. I adore this tag and if I ever get around to actually doing all the tags on my blog, then I’m picking this one. Also, Cassandra Clare is an angel who constantly inspires me to write diverse, epic fantasy. And the ending of TMI both killed me and made me cry buckets of happiness.
And I am scared to death of Adam Silvera and his sad books.
*flails happily* THANK YOU THAT MAKES ME HAPPY!!😂 Dude no soul for gingers?! That’s so unfortunate though, how do you trade your soul for all the good things in life??? Like mine is gone x 100 for all the times I’ve promised it for specific books. Someday this will catch up with me but OH WELL.
Cassandra Clare is my herooo I love her.
Adam Silvera has no chill and I love it and I’m TERRIFIED of him.😂
An author I am scared of? I’m going to say YOU because I just per-ordered your book and I am so terrified because I heard it would crush my soul and it’s so EXCITING. Also I’ve had a mild fear of Katherine Paterson since childhood because I don’t think she knows what a happy ending is? But I’m mostly over that…
I tend to love those characters that are just a smudge in the background but are somehow hugely important anyway. My heart is reduced to a puddle in their presence.
N’awww, I’m so honoured by how many people are saying they’re scared of me.!! I’m so proud!! Look at me go!! Ready to hurt you all– AHEM I MEAN. NO NOTHING TO BE SCARED OF HERE. (Also forever traumatised by a childhood of Katherine Paterson, bless her.)
Ahh, this is such a fun tag! I may have to do it someday!
I’m really glad that it never really gets humid where I live, so I’ll never end up with curled up books or bad hair 😂 And I also really don’t understand the hype around Sarah J Maas. Her books sound so uninteresting and basic to me I just???? Don’t get it???
I’M GLAD YOU LIKED IT!! I had fun with this haha.
Duuude, I’m envious of your non-humid life.😂I’m so sick of all my books curling it’s ridiculous. And it’s supposed to be 2 weeks until WINTER and I’m wearing shorts and no sleeves.😂
Ugh SJM’s fandom is so vicious too it just doesn’t even make sense. I’m so over it.😂
Oh God yes, so seconding Sally Green. The ending of Half Lost is the closest I’ve ever come to crying over a book.
I haven’t felt meh about a lot of classics. I’ve hated them instead, which is in fact worse. It does make for long passionate rants and essays motivated entirely by spite though so…
Loving your summing up of the Six of Crows characters. Like, same, Wylan, same. :’)
I’M STILL DEVASTATED. I was rereading the series and ended up procrastinating the last like 50 pages for…ages.😂I mean if you don’t reread it, it didn’t happen, right?!?
Wylan is so adorable and precious I looove him.
Cait, I’m goinqg to be perfectly honest here and say I’m KIND OF SCARED OF YOU. Ahem. Like have you seen the reviews for ATPN?! They’re all weeping skeletons and I 100% am looking forward to reading it because why not make myself suffer. I absolutely adore Hufflepuff characters (I totally agree with Noah and August), I think one of my favorite would have to be Wylan Van Eck (so cute I can’t even).
NOOOO DON’T BE SCARED OF ME I’M SUPER NICE. *grabs for halo because it’s slipping* 😂
Weeping skeletons omg, that’s the best blurb I’ve gotten yet how great.😂
(WYLAN IS TOO ADORABLE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH)
I am definitely going to do this tag. XD
Ahhh I’m glad!!😂
This tag is so creative!! I love it, I may be stealing it soon.😂Ahhh I agree so much that Lara Jean is actually the most adorable character?! I can’t until the movie/Netflix show/whatever it is comes out!
AHHH YAY!! I’m so glad you liked the tag! And Lara Jean…omg she is too adorable and wholesomely good. I looove her. I think it’s a movie right on Netflix?! In august or something?! I’M SO EXCITED.
I never thought I’d say this but I’M ACTUALLY SCARED OF UNCLE RICK. After The Burning Maze (which completely destroyed me), I’m afraid of what will happen to my heart in book 4. Of course, I’m scared of George R. R. Martin. He kills off everyone I love. Who wouldn’t be terrified? And most importantly, I AM SCARED OF YOU CAIT. People who have read your books say you made them cry and I’m so emotional right now I’m afraid of what state my heart will be in when I read your book.
ASDJSGAJKL I’M SO EXCITED FOR THE WICKED KING. The Cruel Prince is one of my best reads this year and I just love it so much. You also mentioned Noah?? OH YES I LOVE NOAH. His character development is so amazing. He was so irritating in the first book but he completely stole my heart in the last book.
I think an influential book is something that can actually make people MOVE and TAKE ACTION. THUG is such a great example for this. It is the most powerful book I have ever read and I hope they won’t mess up the movie adaptation. It really is something that can encourage you to make a change—a total eye-opener.
Ohhh no I haven’t read The Burning Maze yet.!! Should I be super worried?! I love Apollo haha. And omg George RR Martin is just a wild monster…I have zero trust for him.😂But duuuude, I promise I am not the level of scaredness of GRRM.😂 Hopefully I’ll just smash hearts a little bit. Just a little.
Omgg I love The Cruel Prince so so much I NEED THE NEXT BOOK.
And definitely agree about the definition of an influential book! I think THUG has really changed a ton of people?! And I’m so so hoping the movie is just as good and I have a feeling it will be!
This is SO FUN and I wish I had waited to post even longer because I’d have just used your tag hahha. Actually I am going to do a tag post soon I think, I’ll steal it then!
Erm anyway. I could not agree more with the end of Chaos Walking. Like Patrick Ness should give classes to other authors on how to end a series. You also reminded me that I need to buy the international Muse of Nightmares so it matches with the first book. I also have a coupon for Book Depository, so that’s a win.
I am mad on your behalf, and always will be, about the rejections because NOPE it does not make a bit of sense whatsoever. And also, who slaps that sticker on thinking it’s a good life choice? I want to talk to them. And I can’t with the Instagram algorithm. I ALWAYS try to like your posts because I want to see them more, and you’d THINK that would help, but NOPE I miss tons of them. So… what is the algorithm even algorithming? I think they just randomize and laugh at us tbh.
An author that scares me… I’ll second Patrick Ness for sure. Adam definitely! And I am still pretty salty at Sally, not gonna lie. And THUG is an incredibly influential book- I don’t know if anything can top it at the moment really!
N’aww, thank you!😍😂I had fun making this heheh.
Aghhhhh I LOVE Patrick Ness’ books and also hate them because they always ruin me.😂And ah! I have a book depository voucher too and I’m trying to convince myself not to use it lol lol…😂 (I mean I have a million books to read, but obviously still not enough.)
Aww thank you for liking my posts!! It’s so frustrating how it doesn’t make sense though?! Like somedays the WEIRDEST photos go really big and like my favourite photos flop.😂Thanks IG, you’re great.
(Omg you’re never going to forgive Sally Green.😂)
I like this tag a lot! And it’s been approximately 300 years since I’ve done a tag so maybe I will STEAL IT and credit you so not really stealing but whatever.
Instead of just answering the tag questions and thus defeating the purpose of completing it again on your blog, I will concur that YES, DAMAGED BOOK MAIL IS THE WORST. I mean… HOW did my book get wedged in the bottom of the box, under the flappy thing? HOW did my hardcover’s dustjacket get bent in half?? How did the box my book was supposed to come in FALL APART??? Colour me red at these things because they have all happened to me *upside down smiling emoji*
Also, yes to the ending of The Raven Cycle and the Shades of magic series. They were both delightful as heck <3
Aww thank you!! I hope you do!! It was kind of fun to make up haha (Although I did google for the colours – to what they should be connected to.😂 So I guess I only half made it up but OH WELL, DETAILS DETAILS.)
Omggg I feel personally attacked by damaged bookmail. And is it just me or do bookstores not seem to care and package their books really badly!? My things from Book Depoistory are almost always damaged and I blog for this indie bookstore in Australia and they package books SO BADLY IT MAKES ME ANGRYYYY. My last hardcover orders, none of them stand up because they’re so warped. 😭😭
(I’m so glad you loved the end of TRC too. 😍)
I’ve experienced the classics-pressure, too! After being forced to read a lot of them by my lit teacher and being really disappointed I realized that it’s definitely okay for me to only care about the books that I do want to read, in fact, it’s better! Now that my allergic reactions to classics have somewhat calmed down, I do have a few faves, though!
Also, high five for also not only writing about one book, haha
Yes yes that’s totally it! We should just be able to read what we like and not have to “care” about books just because they’re old. I mean, literally who got to pick the classics.😂I have some questions.
*hi fives*
You’re probably declined on Edelweiss because you’re not American (you’re Australian right?). I don’t even bother with NetGalley US or Edelweiss because my English ass is never accepted. I’m getting approved a lot on Netgalley UK though!
Vee @ Under The Mountain
On Edelweiss I’m actually signed up as American because I don’t know how to change it and that was the default haha. But apparently it does NOTHING. I get denied like 3 hours after I request. *cries* I’m glad Netgalley UK loves you though!!
This is a cool tag! I might steal it… (if I have the time)
I really don’t care about classics either, I always feel that as a writer and someone who loves books I should read more classics, but at the same time I honestly don’t care enough to pick one up XD I just know I’m going to be so bored? (I mean, I’m reading Pride and Prejudice for literature right now and I’m not hating it? I do like the story, tho it can be a bit hard to understand the language sometimes)
That summary of the Six of Crows gang made me laugh XD It’s actually so accurate
Yes yes do!! I’d love to read your answers!
And same haha, I mean, as a writer I should probably read…some…but apart from the children’s classics (like Peter Pan etc.) I have ZERO interest. I’d rather read modern books. I am not ashamed. *tosses confetti on self*
I loooove the Six of Crows gang hahha. I’m so glad you liked my summary there.😂
omg saaaaame on All the Bright Places. i look at it and its pretty cover and i’m like, “you crushed the soul of a young, innocent high school me.” and then i look at the 5 star rating doled out by young naive me and i’m like, “do you deserve this, All the Bright Places? must re-crush soul in the name of finding out.” because, you know, logic.
the six of crows heist gang love is single-handedly making me want to reread those books more than anything else has. because HOW HAVE I READ THEM ONLY ONCE.
it’s also making me so happy that you listed The Raven Cycle under great endings because i’ve put off reading The Raven King for nearly a year now?? even though i binge read and massively enjoyed the first three books?? something is wrong with me but i just don’t know what it is (truly bless noah tho)
& FINALLY: YES YES YES YES TO NOT UNDERSTANDING SJM. i do not currently, i have not in the past, and i’m going to go ahead and say i never ever ever ever EVERRR WILL.
as usual, the fun and creativity levels of your blog put everyone else to shaaaaame
Lol loooool All The Bright Places was SO KIND TO US.😂I mean I’m definitely going to reread it, but I’m also nervous to, because what if I don’t love it as much now?!? It really was the best book I read in 2014. AWEK. And omg I’ve only read Crooked Kingdom once, but SoC twice! I want to do a complete Grisha reread before King of Scars *screams softly*
PLEASE READ THE RAVEN KING IT’S GLORIOUS. IGNORE ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE. OBVIOUSLY I AM RIGHT.😂
SJM just has faeries being snarky and aggressive and having sex, I mean…like where is the draw here. I’m so done. Bleh.
(N’awww, THANK YOU for saying that! Someoene else literally commented to say my post was really messy and all over the place so. 😭😂Thank you haha. This was a nice boost!)
This is such a fun book tag that I might borrow for my YouTube channel! Yesss it was so great meeting Patrick Ness but omg TKONLG. Yesss stickers on books are the bane of my existence.
Awww I will be honoured if you do it!! AHH!! And omg lucky you meeting Patrick Ness…he seems nicer in real life than he is to his characters. 😂😂
This is such a cool tag! I appreciate how the categories aren’t based on the actual color of the books themselves because I own mainly fantasies which lack bright color which makes me sad 🙁 I’m definitely going to do this though!!
Aww thank you!! I’m really glad you enjoyed this!😂 I kind of googled for what’s-associated-with-what-colour and this is what came up.😂
But Divergent is so gooood! Don’t let the movies ruin it for you! *cries into the abyss* Also I kinda get your “meh”-ness about the classics ’cause they can be pretty boring. But if you study the writing style and all the story devices and techniques that they employ it’s really impressive!!! And then you understand why they became classics.
I’m glad someone agrees with me about Sarah J. Maas! I’ve never understood why there’s so much hype around those books – like, I couldn’t relate to the protagonist AT ALL so the whole thing was pretty meh for me.
I really enjoyed your post (as always!) =)
I read them all before I saw the movies! Well, I’ve only technically seen 1.5 movies.😂But annnyway. And I mean, I get that there’s layers to classics, but I truly think someone just picked them from a whole stack of old books so. *shrugs*😂 IDK. I’m here for more modern stuff??
And SJM books are too alpha-male-aggressive with the romance for me. *throws up a little*
A.S. King is…. I don’t even know. I read one of her books and basically spent the whole time feeling dizzy and confused.
VE Schwab is seriously cruel to her characters. Kell spends about 90% of A Darker Shade of Magic bleeding from knife wounds and having no time to recover or take a nap. If you’re going to stab someone you could at least have the courtesy to let them take a nap or eat some cake or SOMETHING. But no.
Omg AS King confuses me so much I just flap about with a blank look on my face. (I legit have NO idea what her books mean.😂)
Dude, yes. I am a huge believer in napping after stabbing. Like let’s have some balance here?!? CHARACTERS DESERVE NAPS.
Great fun! I totally agree with you on Instagram and I’ll have my fork ready next time open it up! 😀
😂Instagram is a pain, but also FUN haha. I’m glad you liked the post!
Honestly, I don’t know why this makes sense?? But it does??? This was a fun post to read!
I’m glad you liked it.😂
This will probably sound foolish, however, I’m super anxious/super avoid-ish of reading Rick Riordan and his Percy Jackson series. I keep getting reading recommendations for it, especially since it’s a series with diverse representation for ADHD and I’m just… Super suspicious of that. I’m very aware that it might have great representation for white male protagonists with ADHD, and publishing-wise I get why that’s an important selling point for a Young Adult audience, but that doesn’t mean it represents the “wider” ADHD experience, I’m concerned I’m expecting too much and I’m setting myself for disappointment. My current reading slump also doesn’t help 🙂
Oh I’m sure that’s true…like one person’s ADHD is not everyone’s experience. I feel that way when reading about books with anxiety rep in them. However just because it’s not *my* rep doesn’t mean it isn’t good, you know?! So I love reading a whole variety of perspectives!
Agh slumps are awful. I hope you kick yours soon!
Yeah, I get what you mean, it’s important we have multiple pov’s on important stuff, I don’t want or need a sigular narrative experience.
Ooo, this tag looks wonderful. I think I shall have to steal it and add it to the pile of tags that I really want to do, but never really get around to. #atleastImhonest
Ah hahah, but hey having a backup list of tags to do is always helpful right?!😂 I’m so glad you liked reading this!
ASDFGHJKL I LOVE THIS POST. And I know I probably say that every single time I comment on your blog but it is the truth and I cannot help it. You are literally the funniest person. I can’t even.
I’m not sure if there are any authors I’ve read that I’m actually scared of? I’ve been blessed (or cursed, depending on how you look at it) with the gift of not really ever having read books that have truly scarred me emotionally, but I have a very foreboding feeling that once I read a certain book coming out in June that I am going to be crushed into a thousand smithereens, so…..???? XD I AM TERRIFIED OF YOUR BOOK CAIT!! XD (in a very good way, though! I am excited to be brutally stabbed in the heart. XD)
Aww I’m glad I’m actually funny to other people and not just here making horrible jokes to myself.😂😂 *sends you cake*
DUDE. You need to be scarred clearly. I’ll give my best attempt.😂😂 But scary authors are good and bad, too, because like I love them and then I end up avoiding their books until I’m quite ready to have my heart broken. (I promise I’m not TOO bad though!!)
Ooh, thank you! *eats cake*
I KNOW. I am a disgrace to the reading community. XD I definitely want to read some of these scary authors., though! I’m probably going to pop over to Goodreads and add all of the scary authors you’ve mentioned into my TBR pile. It shall be glorious! XD (Honestly, even if it shatters my heart and soul into a thousand pieces, I AM SO READY FOR ATPN, ACK!!!! XD )
