I LOVE RECAPS!
Maybe* I’m strange but I love lists and piles and organised rows of successful completions. Last year I hosted a recap linkup myself, but this year I didn’t because a) the move to WordPress took longer than I expected, b) I went away, c) I hosted a “‘Bout The Blogger” link up instead (which is still going any you can enter the giveaway and WIN STUFF).
No regrets! But I still wanted to do a recap.**
I stumbled across Jamie @ The Perpetual Page-Turner’s 2014 recap survey with lots and lots of delicious questions I would like to swallow.
* Okay, cut out the “maybe”…I’m okay with the truth.
** Because of lists, peoples. You know lists and I have a close love affair.
Because that’s not at all ominous. (I promise, this survey won’t bite.)
Number Of Books You Read
I’ll probably read a few more but…yes…this is the most books I’ve ever read in a year. It was a reading-ish sort of year.
Number of Re-Reads
Oh this is rather embarrassing. 2. I reread two whole books. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and Gone by Michael Grant. (I’m not a rereader, apparently.)
Genre You Read The Most From
CAN WE HAVE PIE?
Despite me being the Grumpy And Very Critical Contemporary Reader….it’s my #1 genre! (I read 65+ contemporaries.) Followed closely, of course, but my FAVOURITE GENRE OF THE WORLD: Urban/Paranormal fantasy. What can I say? I love supernatural….things.
1. Best Book You Read In 2014?
I CAN’T pick one favourite. It’s too hard. I am alone in the corner crying here…
Crown of Midnight || All The Bright Places || Half Bad || Rose Under Fire || White Cat
2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read in 2014?
IN A GOOD WAY: Because I liked them a lot more than I thought I would.
IN A BAD WAY: Because I abhorred them and it made me cry.
4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did) In 2014?
It has to be Dangerous Girls and Throne of Glass, right?! I had so many people tweet that they’d bought Dangerous Girls after I raved about it! AND IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THRONE OF GLASS YET, I CAN’T EVEN LOOK AT YOU.
5. Best series you started in 2014? Best Sequel of 2014? Best Series Ender of 2014?
Series is obviously The Mortal Instruments. I never finish series…but I read 6 books in one year! GO ME.
Sequel is Crown of Midnight which blew Throne of Glass away.
Series conclusion is um um um… the only series conclusions I read was City of Heavenly Fire from The Mortal Instruments, and Four from Divergent (but, on account of it being novellas, I’m not sure it counts as “conclusion”).
Clearly I need to focus and finish more series.
6. Favourite new author you discovered in 2014?
HOLLY BLACK! CASSANDRA CLARE! MARKUS ZUSAK! LAINI TAYLOR!
Oh. Ah. It was supposed to be pluralised, right?
7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
If it’s YA, I read it. ALL THE GENRES I WILL EAT. I read a fair few Middle-Grade books this year. I adored:
8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
9. Book You Read In 2014 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
Well, this is awkward. None? There’s a teeny tiny microscopic chance I’ll reread one of Sarah J Maas’ books. But let’s face it:
10. Favourite cover of a book you read in 2014?
I have such a cover-love problem that I read books SOLEY based on cover. Half the time, I don’t even care what they’re about because…cover love.
11. Most memorable character of 2014?
I can’t answer Celeana Sardothien for every answer can I?
12. Most beautifully written book read in 2014?
I may or may not have just died of writing-love after reading Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe. OH. That and Falling Into Place. Wickedly beautiful.
13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2014?
Well, Dangerous Girls has made me rethink ever having friends or going on holidays or, well, making eye-contact with people.
14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2014 to finally read?
Hit me over the head with a bookshelf, but I regret so so much not reading Holly Black before this year.
15. Favourite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2014?
16. Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2014?
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire = 734 pages
The Fantastic Mr. Fox = 81 pages
17. Book That Shocked You The Most
Dangerous Boys and Dangerous Girls get the award for this…BUT. Since I’ve mentioned them copiously already and I’m trying to share the love around:
18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
I have a lot of OTPs, but top (of this second) is Quentin and Maggie from Disruption and also Simon and Isabelle from The Mortal Instruments.
19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
Rose Justice and Roza in Rose Under Fire broke my heart a little. Oh, and honourable mention to Kenji and Juliette because I might have laughed a lung out in Ignite Me.
20. Favourite Book You Read in 2014 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
Marissa Meyer. You are perfection.
21. Best Book You Read In 2014 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:
Ha. You want a list right? A WHOLE LIST?! I am a hopelessly peer-pressured reader as I confessed in previous posts.
Amanda @ Book Badger had me reading Skulduggery Pleasant.
Engie @ Musings From Neville’s Navel had me reading Ash and American Born Chinese.
Emily @ The Loony Teen Writer had me reading The Golden Compass.
The ENTIRE BLOGOSPHERE threw things at me until I read Daughter of Smoke And Bone.
Lydia @ Planet Lydia had me reading The Book Thief.
Zoe @ Stories On Stage had me reading Tiger Lily.
22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2014?
I’m just going to say The Raven Boys and leave it at ALL of them, okay?
23. Best 2014 debut you read?
24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?
OH Laini Taylor wins this very easily and extraordinarily fast. Her world is so amazing and she uses such sparse words to create a kaboom of colour! I AM IN LOVE WITH HER WORLDS. (I haven’t gotten to book 3 yet, but soon, peoples, soon.)
25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
Lemony Snicket wins this section hands down! He’s a) hilarious, b) a little ludicrous, and c) entirely dryly sarcastic.
26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2014?
Okay, here’s the truth: I am 89% Vulcan and DO NOT CRY. But occasionally my tear ducts get moistened and books are to blame.
27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?
I picked up Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock without my thought…and gosh, has it plastered itself like a sticky barnacle to my brain. IT WAS AMAZING. And hurt. I apparently read a lot of books that hurt.
28. Book
That Crushed Your Soul?
Can we talk about Half Bad for a second? And how awfully cruel and horrible it is to poor little Nathan? And how I am literally 2 millimeters away from DYING because I need the sequel so badly? THIS BOOK LITERALLY STOMPED ON MY HEART.
29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2014?
I don’t think there is anything in the world that can compare to Good Omens by Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman. It is extraordinarily ludicrous and I love it. It also featured Crowley, so that wins two million points.
30. Book That Made You The Most Mad?
I am angry about 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I hated that book and I really try never to say that. Every book deserves a chance! But I really felt that one was condoning abuse by making Hannah (a bullied girl) kill herself and psychologically abuse (and BULLY) random kids at school by blaming them. It was wrong. I felt absolutely sick reading it.
1. New favourite book blog you discovered in 2014?
I haven’t been actively reading blogs all that long, so I have so many book blogs I’ve followed and fallen in love with this year! SO. Since I always name the same ones…here as some I’ve only recently followed (like in the last 5 or so months) that I absolutely love:
Charlotte @ Books And Baby || Eugenia @ Genie In a Book || Taylor @ Paper Daydreams || Hannah @ The Daisy Tree || Shannelle @ The Art Of Escapism || Robyn @ Spiral-Bound || Mel @ The Daily Prophecy
2. Favourite review that you wrote in 2014?
I love all my reviews! Okay, okay, that did sound a little teeny tiny bit over-confident. But I really only try to post my reviews if they’re a) fangirling, b) funny, c) stuffed with incoherent “oh my goshes”.
I had a lot of fun with my Daughter of Smoke And Bone gif review! And I LOVED filling my Egg And Spoon review with hilarious quotes.
3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?
Hooooow am I supposed to remember what discussions I posted? Gosh?! I am pleased of my discussion on why we’re sick of books being compared to The Hunger Games. And everyone apparently liked my discussion of how we feel when books use our names (with nearly 200 comments. Oh WOW!!!)
4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?
I sat in my room, alone, and read a book.
5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2014?
Any time someone mentions my blog in a post or weekly roundup or tweets a post or even just comments and says “hey this was cool” — THAT. That all makes blogging 1000% worth it and makes me happier than a Hatter with a teapot.
7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?
This is hard to tell because I switched to wordpress and therefore sacrificed my stats. But I think my most popular post of ever was my WELCOME TO PAPERFURY post which hit over 200 comments.
Thank you, my fuzzy antelopish blogglings, thank you! I need a moment to flail…
8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?
It’s always nerve wracking when a review gets only a few comments.
9. Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?
I would’ve said bookworld.com.au, which is an Australian bookstore, but they recently put a flat-fee of postage on all their books which consequently made me cry and go back to bookdepository.com for all my book-buying-needs.
10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?
I only ever set a Goodreads goal (which I completed) because I a) get distracted, b) don’t complete things, c) forget I signed up for them in the first place. Focus. FOCUS, CAIT.
1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2014 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2015?
Eeek. I have so many. I really want to finish series in 2015.
2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2015 (non-debut)?
3. 2015 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?
4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2015?
5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2015?
I’d love to make it to 2,000 followers. I also want to do more “giving back” to my readers and followers, but I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW. Not just guest posts spots or giveaways…but something I can do too that would be useful. I’m plotting. As your Queen and Overlord, of course. (I can’t let myself slip too much and seem nice or approachable, here.) I will also continue in my world ruling, but that’s an obvious goal for 2015, right?
6. A 2015 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone
How many times have I mentioned this book in this post?! I refuse to say “too many”. It’s amazing, peoples. It’ll break your heart and you’ll hate me for recommending it. But somehow — oh I may be hyperventilating again — I just connected to it so much it felt REAL.
It’s also going to be a movie SO READ THE BOOK FIRST.
SO! DID YOU GET TO THE END OF THIS POST?
Cake for you.
It’s quite long but (now this is a secret) I love to have these records to look back on next year. And don’t forget, if you want join in, jump over to the original post on Jamie’s blog! And feel free to link me to any recaps you’ve done lately!
wait! before you go! i’m super curious…do you have any specific blogging goals for 2015? (because i need some and i need to steal your fabulous ideas.) also: top book you can’t wait for in 2015?! go go go!
Cait is currently wearing her Loki shoes and trying to think up mischief. So far she’s just obstinately kept christmas lights on her bookshelf. #rebel Currently she’s teaching her dog to sit, which is working just about as well as sailing a cello down the Nile.
Great post, I loved the genre pie chart. Also, that sarcasm GIF. Supernatural works with EVERYTHING!
Books for 2015…my to-read pile that I own currently stands at about ten/eleven/twelve. But other than that, I want to try reading contemporaries (because I don’t) and find some more myth stuff and FINALLY read Runelight (seriously, I’ve had it since October 2013 and, every time I go to start it, something gets in the way). I think I’m moving more to YA from MG, but I can’t see me dropping the MG completely, Rick Riordan’s releasing the first in a Norse series in October 2015 🙂 I think I’m going to set myself a 100 book reading goal on Goodreads next year. I’ll never reach it. 2015 will be a busy year 🙁
Supernatural has a gif for ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. It is a little insane. 😉 But it makes gifing skills very very convenient, right?!
AWK! I HEAR YA! I was attempting to move from YA to more adult stuff last year…..but I went opposite. 0.0 I now read more MG. Gah. MG is wonderful and adult is boring. I\’m honestly not sure if 2015 will be super busy for me…*sigh* But I WOULD like to think I\’ll read all the books I own instead of attacking the library mercilessly.
The amount of times I see people recommending All the Bright Places to me makes me want to explode. In the best way possible. Because that book looks awesome. And heartbreaking. I think I’ll be buying that book on its release day. 🙂 So that is one of my most-anticipated reads of next year–but really, there are so many of them that this comment could go on for a long, long time. Funny you should mention blogging goals though; I’m actually in the middle of drafting a post like that for next week. ^_^
You\’ll probably explode when you read it too. JUST SAYIN\’. It is literally a book you will die crying over. OH YAY BLOGGING GOALS! I\’ll stalk your post then. 😉 Heeeh. JUST KIDDING. I won\’t steal. I will be nice and think up goals for myself. *nods*
BRILLIANT POST, CAIT. I think I might do this survey sometime in January when I get the time…in between doing various shenanigans. YOU READ SO MANY FANTASTIC BOOKS AND I CAN’T WAIT TO READ ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES OH MY GOODNESS. *breathes hard*
Also I won an ARC of Half Wild sooooo be jealous 🙂
Oh and YAY for contemporaries! You know you love them 😀
Various shenanigans sounds promising and a little scary. I LOOK FORWARD TO IT.
OMG I AM SO JEALOUS RIGHT NOW I CANNOT EVEN.
SERIOUSLY. GO AWAY.
HALF WIILLLLLLLD. *CRIES FOREVER AND ALWAYS*
“AND IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THRONE OF GLASS YET, I CAN’T EVEN LOOK AT YOU.”
… *quietly sits in a corner* I… I put it on my ereader last week…?
By the way, I agree about 13 Reasons Why. Made me really annoyed.
I can maybe look in your direction. But seriously. Go read it. Why are you even on the internet? GO READ IT.
I\’m not at all bossy. No. Definitely not.
I want to post more on my blog, and, like, get followers. And I really really really want to read Winter. According to Goodreads, I read more than 200 books this year but they count novellas and stuff, and I didn’t quite keep track of everything. I love goodreads though.
I’m sure that cellos are easier to sail down massive rivers than violas, my instrument of choice.
I’m in awe of all the books you read and how great you are at writing reviews. Well done 🙂
I really really really SUPER ABSOLUTELY want to read Winter too. *nods* That is a huge goal of mine. Goodreads rocks, but yes, sometimes I wish it didn\’t count novellas. Like I read a 30-page novella and it counts as a full book. Feels cheaterish somehow. 🙁
TOO TRUE. I would sail further. Also cello bows are bigger and possibly I could paddle faster.
Ha ha!! I am book marking this and coming back for a re-read. Things in 2015? I am, like you, going to start doing the Sunday Post feature, and I am going to work my fingers to the bone getting followers for the feature I co-host, Tell Me Tuesday. I have three books I evenly want next year… the sequel to The Queen of the Tearling: Invasion of the Tearling, the sequel to Gates of Thread and Stone: The Infinite, and the sequel to Of Breakable Things: still untitled. I will also, of course, continue to track your world domination progress. Happy New Year!
You will LOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVEEEEEE Ensnared!! AnyElsewhere is INSANE!!
GAH HAVE YOU READ ENSNARED ALREADY?!! I AM GOING TO CRY. I NEED IT SO MUCH IN MY LIFE. YES YES I DO.
Ohhh, I like your goals! They are fabulous goals! I want to actually hop around to more blogs when I link up to memes and things. Lately I\’ve just been doing the post and not actually hopping, which I feel defeats the purpose!! >_<
You’re a Sizzy shipper!Yay,Cait, give me a five. The relationship between Simon and Isabelle is one the best things in the whole series for me.One of my favourite OTPs ever.
And the world building of Daughter of Smoke and Bone is awesome.I was totally swept away by Laini Taylor’s writing and creativity. That woman is truly a genius!
I really want to read Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the world.I was hooked by the length of the title at first, and I’ve heard that the writing is beautiful,so I can’t wait to try that book out.
*hi fives* SIZZY ALL THE WAY! I always believed in them from, like, book 2 when they were even possible. I never shiped Climon. (I don\’t even know if that\’s a ship name but TIS NOW. XD)
Ohhh, Laini Taylor is ridiculously talented. I\’m actually putting off the 3rd book because I don\’t want the series to end!!
Cait, dear girl! 200 and something books?! Oh, wow! Congratulations are in order. I haven’t quite made it to the 50 mark, sadly. School, and all that you know 😛
I think my goal for books in 2015 would be to write more reviews for the books I read, and have a bigger focus on the serious, more difficult classics like Hugo and Tolstoy and Dickens in preparation for studying English Literature at uni, since I am homeschooled and do most of my own personal reading. Also I want to read more books and fall in love with the books that have a similar genres to the ones I am writing (like historical fiction, high epic fantasy and literary fiction), that are by modern authors. I tend to be quite old-fashioned when it comes to the books I love, see ;).
This post, with its sheer magnitude of the amount of books you read was fun to read about.
Many blessings!
Joy
Randomly, have you seen The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies?! <3 :'( So much emotion! I watched it yesterday at the movies and I sobbed like a baby. . . a beautiful, powerful film!)
School is definitely a good reason. *nods* I hardly read any books (outside of school books) when I was doing school. hehe.
Old fashioned is probably good though! I don\’t know many people who prefer classics, so makes you a special snowflake. 😉 I can\’t…I can\’t do classics. I don\’t understand them. But I think I don\’t read slow enough and savour all the words, you know?? MY PROBLEM.
I haven\’t seen the last Hobbit yet! Mime is going to see it next week I thiiiiink. I probably actually won\’t go to the cinemas because I have a puppy and he needs to be sat on. 😉
THAT PIE CHART THOUGH. THE CHRISTMASSY COLOURS HAHAAHA I LOVE IT. I’m a meh contemporary reader who didn’t read contemporaries. What? Actually, that sounds silly. The point is, I didn’t read much from that genre because I don’t like it D: I read a heck of a lot of Urban fantasy/paranormal/high fantasy though AND I AM SATISFIED. That’s where my heart lies. I LOVE IT.
MWAHAHAA I’m a better rereader than you 😛 I reread THREE books this year. Beat you by one LOL
Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock HURT??? NOW I’m NERVOUS. I don’t want to hurt (I kid, I love feeling emotional pain, obviously, judging from the amount of painful books that I read)
I LIKE PIE CHARTS WHAT CAN I SAY? And yes, christmassy pie! This was actually supposed to go up before Christmas. *hides in shame* Because also Blue Lily isn\’t even on this list but I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I hadn\’t read it before I posted this!
Oh, I\’m the same. I usually think \”meh\” towards contemporaries, but then I read them and I have a lot of favourites. 😉
OH WOW. YOU BEAT ME BY 1. I WILL BOW TO YOU OBVIOUSLY.
Wow you read a lot of books this year! I am not a re-reader either, don’t think I re-read any books this year, oops. I do like re-reading, but I just don’t make time for it and I believe I still remember too much of the book. Oh and I DNF’d Throne of Glass, not my kind of book. I am planning to eventually pick up the Lunar Chronicles as everyne keeps raving about it and if I am goign to try and read a fairytale retelling I better starts with the bets, right? Great post! And yes I have some new years goals, like accepting less books with deadlines, reaidng more mysteries and historical romances as I want to give those genres a try, do even better with Lola’s Blog Tours and read at least 20 review books this year. I havea bookish resolutions post planned for 1 January!
There are too many NEW books to read before rereads, although, yes yes I am going to reread The Hunger Games and the Scorpio races next year. And probably The Dream Thieves if I manage to get my grubby mitts on it, because I only rated it 4-stars and now I can\’t remember WHY. So I must read it again, obviously.
Yessss, you will NOT regret starting the Lunar Chronicles! They are amazing! Scarlet is my favourite. XD
I love lists too. (and I love your posts.) I still can’t wrap my head around you having read over 200 books this year! That’s crazy 🙂
I know people who\’ve read 300+! Now that I cannot understand. XD
Oh gosh Made You Up looks soooooo good! And that cover! I want it and I want it now!
YOU DO ABSOLUTELY WANT IT. IT IS ONE HECK OF A THRILLER!
Omg Cait!! I didn’t know that you’ve moved to WP! I know, I’m such a terrible person :/ Congratulations anyway! The Curse Workers series is AMAAAAZINGGG, isn’t it?? The mystery’s great, the concept’s creative and the narration is entertaining… It’s okay even if you picked it up late, at least you’ve read them now, right? ;D And seems like I really gotta read Throne of Glass next year. Been wanting to start it since ages ago haha.
YOU ARE NOT A TERRIBLE PERSON! It only happened recently so YOU\’RE ALL GOOD! WP is awesome though, I love it! ^_^
AFJDSKLAD I LOVE THE CURSE WORKERS SO MUCH. I don\’t understand why it\’s not the most famous of famous books though?! It is incredible and I love Cassel and I love the cons. I just have to get my grimy paws on Black Heart.
I loved the post, it made me want to stop reading and compile my own list! However, I carried on reading as I always love your posts. Please tell me where you get the reading challenge link from – is it from Goodreads? If so, I have never seen it before. I want to create one for 2015. There is no way I have read anywhere near as many books as you! However, since you mentioned Dangerous Girls so many times I will have to purchase and read it. ALSO I’m pleased that you mentioned the Maze Runner as I have just received the series as a gift for Christmas, and I tend to like the same books as you, so hopefully I will also enjoy this.
Loved the post as always! x
Awww, that\’s really nice to hear, Angelica. But seriously these lists are SO fun to put together!
The reading challenge is from Goodreads! I don\’t think the 2015 challenge link goes up until Jan 1st though, but I\’m sure if you just google \”goodreads 2015 reading challenge\” you\’ll get straight to the links to put it up. (You need a goodreads account tho.)
HAAA! YAY ANOTHER ONE SUCKED INTO DANGEROUS GIRLS! Seriously, it\’s worth it. Completely worth it. 😉 Ohhh, the Maze Runner is like glorious but it has a wicked cliffhanger. You\’ll need The Scorch Trials ASAP!
I have a Goodreads account and also found the reading challenge yay! Only set a target of 60 though!
And The Scorch Trials??? How have I never heard of this?? (researching on google now)
x
oh oh you must read the WHOLE Maze Runner trilogy! There's even a 4th book, I think it's the prequel. I haven't got to it or the last book yet. XD BUT THEY ARE SO GOOD!
THAT’S ONE BEAUTIFUL PIE CHART. We’re on the same boat regarding the rereading matter, gosh. I only managed to finish 2 books. It was a very frustrating process filled with a lot of 30 minute breaks.
If I Stay got me teary eyed too, and just because that one’s on your list: I AM EXPECTING ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES to make my tear ducts go quack quack as well. (…I don’t know..Just sleep deprived)..
I read The Cemetery Boys as “The Eminem Boys” LOL WHAT EVEN. Definitely sleep deprived.
I’m sure you’re going to reach your goal of 2k followers, what with you being so amaze sauce and everything. And we shall continue to be your minions who remain loyal…whenever you are around. *cackles*
PIE CHARTS ARE ALWAYS BEYOND BEAUTIFUL AMIRITE OR WHAT?!
You will BAWL in All The Bright Places, I promise. I might\’ve.
AWW. THANK YOU. I\’ll work half for that 2K. xD lol To be honest, I never ever imagined I\’d hit 1K so THINGS ARE WONDERFUL AROUND HERE. *parties quietly*
Books that made me cry? Definitely Code Name Verity and last night, I cried at least twice while finishing Written In My Own Heart’s Blood (Outlander #8).
As for blogging goals? I hope to have more discussion/opinion type posts. The ones I did write, I really enjoyed. Perhaps, I’ll bring a couple of those back up to the front of the site as the year goes one. I wrote some of them early in the year and didn’t have many followers. We’ll see. I’ve got a list started of things I want to write about/discuss.
Terri M., the Director
Second Run Reviews
CODE NAME VERITY WAS PURELY CRUEL ON THE FEELS. I BAWLED.
That is a good idea though! I\’ve got a few discussions from the past I wouldn\’t mind revamping. 😉 There\’s always a new audience to enjoy them, right?
“I sat in my room, alone, and read a book.”
HAHA I CAN’T EVEN SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE THAT’S JUST WHAT I ENDED UP DOING THE ENTIRE YEAR XD
Haha, the shipping sanity gif is soo accurate.
#lemonysnicketforlife LS will definitely stay awesome because one can never get too much of sarcasm! I should get to Dangerous Girls after your fangirly review (and the people pushing me to read it)
BRILLIANT POST! 😀
We are the BEST bookish introverts then. YUS. And shipping + sanity = doesn\’t exist. I love shipping insanity. IT IS LIFE BUT IT IS PAIN.
#lemonysnicketforlife I AGREE
Ahhhhh I love this post. So many books. So. Many. Gah.
Awww shucks, thanks for mentioning me in your list of blogs 🙂 It was only this year that I found *your* blog, too, and it’s quickly become a favorite.
*tackle hugs for mutual bloggish discovering wonderfulness*
This survey looks so fun (the first time I typed that it autocorrected to “surgery”. Ookkaaayyy). I was too late to participate this year since all my posts are scheduled until January, but I definitely want to try it next year.
Surgery fits. Seriously it was surgery going through my goodreads meticulously making sure I didn\’t forget anything. >_<
THESE POSTS ARE JUST SUPER LONG HUH. I was debating on whether I should shorten my own book survey recap thingy BUT IT PROBABLY WON’T HAPPEN.
I HAVE A COUPLE OF 2015 GOALS. Kind of. More of just reading more, try to request physical ARCs and not be afraid to contact publishers. etc. that sort of stuff.
I DID SKIM THROUGH YOUR RECAP AND I GOT THROUGH THE END. I APPROVE. I don’t know what to comment on, there’s just SO MANY THINGS HERE (just give me the cake).
<3 Code Name Verity, the Book Thief, Daughter of Smoke and Bone. You did good this year Cait. You dun good kid
YUS. They are. You get cake because you even turned up.
I want to request less ARCS actually…haaah. XD I need to focus on books I have and, you know, allow myself to buy a book occasionally. I can probably count on one hand the books I bought this year. 0.0
Ah, I want to do this! I secretly enjoy very long blog posts. I really do. They are fun to write and fun to read. And I’d love to have a whole blog post to RANT ABOUT ALL THE GOOD BOOKS I READ THIS YEAR BECAUSE AGH. *calms down* (I always rant in your comments. You must forgive me for that, I think I get overwhelmed by all the bookish fangirling xD) My blog goal I guess is to just…keep blogging? I only just started in October and it’s been going great so far so I want to keep it up and not slack off like I have a tendency to do. YAY ME.
I AM EXCITED FOR GOLDEN SON. I PREORDERED IT AND IT IS COMING ON THE 6TH WITH THE STEELHEART SEQUEL AND I SHALL HAVE A PARTY FOR THE BOTH OF THEM BECAUSE AGH. Golden Son is stressful just to think about and I need it right now. This doesn’t REALLY count but I’m also getting close to reading Raven Boys (it’s moving up on my huge TBR stack!) and you keep making me more and more excited about it. And I need Fairest and Winter. *flails*
There is NEVER need to calm oneself down when it comes to good books. THEY MUST BE RANTED AND HUZZAHED AND ASFKJDLFED IN ALL CAPS AT ALL HOURS AND TIMES OF THE DAY BECAUSE GOOD BOOKS ARE LIFE! HUZZAH! HAALLAY! <– not sure what hallay is exactly but I\'l roll with it.
I always ALLCAP EVERYWHERE IN MY COMMENTS. ALL CAPS IS MY LANGUAGE. I UNDERSTAND IT.
afdksal I want to reread Red Rising but with all my rereading plans I doooon\'t think i\'ll have time/motivation. BUT ERK. DARROW! I feel like I\'ve been waiting for GS for like nine million years.
Over 200 books, that is incredible. WELL DONE. CAIT. *hands cake* I’m also not much of a rereader, that being said, however, I did reread 6 books this year. 5 of them the Percy Jackson series (I’d JUST finished Blood of Olympus and I was all nostalgiiiiccccc) and the 6th one being Anne of Green Gables. But I generally don’t ever reread.
And yes, I’ve heard amazing things about All the Bright Places! Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
My goals for 2015 are, uhh…TO BE MORE ORGANISED. I’m terribly disorganised, it’s really dreadful. I also want to maybe change my blog design and write more discussion posts and RAISE MY NETGALLEY RATIO.
*stuffs face with cake* You and me both for rereading then. I totally understand nostalgia. that\’s how I feel about THG right now. I MEAN LAST MOCKINGJAY MOVIE NEXT YEAR TOO. *cries forever* It\’ll be the end of a marvellous season.
HUZZAH FOR NETGALLEY RATIOS! Mine is like not at 100% but it\’s like in the 90s so I\’m happy. xD
Hang on, some of those questions were hinting at singular book answers, you’ve included ALL THE BOOKS. And I’m starting to wonder about this love affair with Celaena. I’m reading Throne of Glass at the moment and totally picking up what you’re putting down with that one now.
Cheeses, you read a whole lotta books in 2014. You need to eat more than just books though, it’s too much roughage in your diet. May I suggest more cake?
My goal for 2015. Learn to play the ukulele.
Oh, you mean what am I looking forward to reading?
Ensnared, Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke, The Foretelling of Georgie Spider, This Broken Wondrous World.
But if you haven’t added it already, RED QUEEN! My goodness, it’s absolutely brilliant.
ADD IT!

.
Have you added it yet?
I\’M GOING TO READ RED QUEEN GIVE ME A SEC. I DON\’T READ THAT FAST. Actually, I\’m kinda half saving it for next year. Don\’t look at me like that. I don\’t know why. I want it to count towards my next year bookshelf.
I will eat more cake. That\’ll go on my goals. I listen to you, see?
SINCE WHEN HAVE I EVER FOLLOWED THE RULES? I can\’t list just one book. Pfft. Ridiculousness.
ERMAGERD. YOU ARE FINALLY READING THRONE OF GLASS? CHAOL OR DORIAN?? YOU MUST PICK!
1) Blogging goals: I have way too many (I’m currently approaching blogging like an art form that thoroughly needs to be enjoyed and studied and just REVERED!).
2) Haha, All the Bright Places releases in 2015? I’m definitely waiting for that one (it’s been hyping through sob-infested readers these past few weeks) but 2015 book I’m definitely looking for is genre-splicing We All Looked Up (and like the forgetful person I am, I have forgotten who the author is and am too lazy to google – we’re not supposed to confess these things, are we?)
3) A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS for achieving 221% of your reading challenge. (That’s freaking cool).
4) Huh, the irony…65 contemporaries (you certainly were a voracious reader this year Cait!)
5) Hope all the reading (and blogging) goodness carries on for the next year and that you achieve your blogging goals (I am pretty confident in your gaining 2000 followers next year).
6) Have a helluva lot of fun next year Cait…I’m looking forward to all of your posts!!!
I LIKE THIS COMMENT BECAUSE IT IS A LIST. Nice list. Likey like.
Ooh, are you posting your blogging goals? I have no idea what to do for mine. But I feel I need SOME. Some interesting ones. *nods*
All The Bright Places releases in January! IT IS AMAZING I 1000000% PROMISE YOU IT IS AMAZING.
I love this post! I love recap posts, tooXD
My biggest blogging goal will probably be to sit down and come up with a weekly schedule. And maybe get a few more followers.
Book I’m looking forward to most in 2015: All Fall Down by Ally Carter or Winter by Marissa Meyer (actually, that should be “and” instead of “or”XD I’m majorly excited for them bothXD
More posts from you?! YAY I WOULD LOOK FORWARD TO THAT SO MUCH. XD
I had to read this in several sittings because it’s so long and I didn’t want to miss anything. I attempted to fill it in myself but it was annoying me because I pretty much had the same answers for most questions so it seemed like a big waste of time! Yours is better.
I have so many things I could say about all this but it would take a long time to type and you would probably fall asleep reading it so I’ll just stick to a few things. Even though I haven’t read 13 Reasons Why I had a strange feeling about it when I heard the synopsis and what you have said about it pretty much sums up why the thought of it made me uncomfortable. I don’t want to read it but part of me wants to see if I hate it as much as I am expecting to. It just seems like a really strange idea to be blaming people for someones suicide. I dunno. Not a fan.
I wish I could read as quickly as you because you have read so much awesome this year and when I look back at my books I feel like I could have picked better. This year I really want to try and be more selective with what I read because I don’t get enough time to sit and waste on mediocrity! Haha.
Everytime I see that quote you plucked from Egg and Spoon I want to read it even though we all know how I feel about Gregory Maguire and it ain’t love.
Urgh. Basically I am massively jealous of all your reading and books and everything.
Also, I am so grateful for the mention in your new favourite blogs! *blushes* I love you for that 🙂
Omg, I am just honoured you read it all. xD SKIMMING IS OKAY JUST SO YOU KNOW. I WILL LOVE YOU ANYWAY. It was a mammoth survey. Phewf. And I cheated copiously by listening 43298057 instead of, like, one when they asked.
I\’m actually tempted to say READ 13 REASONS WHY just so I can know what you think. But to be honest, it made me so so anxious I was actually put off reading for a week or so. :O Which is not good at all. And I think it sent an awful message. It\’s the kind of book I would actually say \”teens don\’t read this\” because I hate the message so much. But eh. Meh. if you read it I am SO here to compare thoughts.
I am a fuzzy antelopish bloggling. My year is made.
I also get cake because I read it all. *gobbles* *gives you a chocolate cupcake in return*
Also I intend to read White Cat. Simply because you loved it.
AND I’M GONNA READ MORE LEMONY SNICKET AND THE FALSE PRINCE.
I love your posts Cait. <3 You are so much snarky hilarious list-loving gif-ified perfection.
It totally is. You\’ve wanted to be a fuzzy antelopish bloggling ALL YOUR LIFE.
*consumes cupcake in two gulps*
I AM SERIOUSLY HAPPY YOU ARE GOING TO READ WHITE CAT. I could probably blog about it actually, right? Because I haven\’t, but it needs blogging about for sure.
YES YOU SHOULD BLOG ABOUT IT. 😀 …I mean, if your plain REVIEW made me want to read it, what about one of your quirky hilarious posts?? *giggle*
I don’t think I’ve read enough to fill in this tag but I loved reading your post. It makes me want to read all these books. I’m hoping to write at least a post a week but I’m not sure I can manage that what with time constraints. I’m totally excited for Winter – I think almost everyone is! 🙂
UGH TIME CONSTRAINTS ARE THE WORST. #bookwormproblems But hehe, so glad you liked the post! I was a wee bit worried about this one because it\’s sooooo long. XD
I am insanely jealous of your pie diagram right now. HOW? 😀
I was also surprised at how many contemporaries I’ve read this year because I tend to be pretty critical of them as well! I didn’t really like Throne of Glass (I know, I know), but I see some shiny books on that list. I totally forgot Goblet of Fire was that long. 😀 Chapeau for including all of those pics, I was way lazier and just linked to the books. Sometimes.
I just did it on infogr.am seriously that site is aaaamazing for pie charts. I LOVE ME SOME PIE.
I know right?! You and me both for contemporary criticalness. It\’s weird that I\’ll be so hard on them but yet I read them the most. XD Oooh…*shuns you for 2.3 seconds* BUT THAT\’S OKAY I\’LL FORGIVE YOU EVEN IF YOU DIDN\’T LIKE THRONE OF GLASS.
OMG infogr.am is awesome, thanks for the tip! I have a feeling there will be a lot of infographics in my future haha. And pie charts, because pie is awesome in all variations.
Yay! Congratulations on completing your goal. You inspire me to read a lot of books and to push my reading goal for next year. 🙂 This year was definitely YOUR reading year! You did so well in your challenges and that’s good that you re-read books even though it was 2. I re-read NONE … well that’s because I don’t like re-reading haha. I wish I did though. I didn’t reach my reading goal this year (college was a pain) which was 50 books but that’s okay because I can achieve it on 2015! I am so happy you liked Cruel Beauty! It was one of my first reads during 2014 and I loved it! I love the twist at the end.
IT WAS A GOOD READING YEAR. I\’m actually planning to maybe back of a little next year?! HEH. XD I did exhaust myself several times and didn\’t feel like reading.
I\’m not the hugest fan of rereading either because…what about all the new adventures?! I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THEM TOO.
That twist in Cruel Beauty was. the. best. evvvver.
Yes, lists are the best!! I did this same tag too, just because I love being organised too 🙂 I did a bad thing this year… I didn’t read Throne of Glass. But I’m going to, I swear! And yay, I get cake!
My blogging goals are also to get more followers (except I’m only aiming for 100…), and to post more about my life, not always book reviews. Oh, and to participate in more memes, not just Top Ten Tuesday all the time! Hope that helps 🙂
You get like HALF a piece of cake because YOU NEED TO READ THRONE OF GLASS, LIKE ASAP. GO GO GO! XD
Kiiidding. You have 3/4 of the piece of cake. *nods kindly*
I’ll be back for that 4th quarter really soon, I promise!! It’s very very high up on my list of books to read!
I love your pie chart. I want to do one myself, but it feels like it would be so much work since I only use Goodreads to keep track of the books I read. But it’s so cool looking! Plus, all the Supernatural gifs! I love that there is a gif for everything.
It was kind of tedious because I had to write out all my books and then sort them into genres and arghhh, some books don\’t fit well into a single genre and it\’s so hard. 🙁
Supernatural RULES for gif perfection.
This is such a fabulous post! ♥ I completely agree with all your answers (okay, fine…all your answers except the City of Bones ones #BookishTwinFail). 😉 Rose Under Fire & All the Bright Places definitely had me both balling my eyes out quite frequently. And both Dangerous Girls & We Were Liars definitely knocked my socks off with their fabulous plot twists.
ENSNARED. MORPHEUS. That is all.
And yes, I definitely did force you to read Tiger Lily. 😉 (Although, let’s face it, if you didn’t read it by my recommendation, you’d probably pick it up eventually after I kept fangirling & rubbing it in your face all the time. 😉 )
Hilarious post Cait, and loved the GIFs!
Haha! YES. Our epic #bookishtwinfail. I am so so soooo glad you liked ATBP. :\’) I hate that book because I love it so much.
OH I would\’ve read Tiger Lily eventually but I TOTALLY WENT OUT AND BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF YOU AND I NEVER DO THAT. You are obviously the best. XD
This is impressive. I can’t remember half of the books that I read this year, but I’m resolved to keep track this coming year (Is there such thing as a book reading diary?). The Ascendance Trilogy is one of my favorites too, and that’s pretty much one of the only series that I read that I was really surprised about this year and loved.
I loved all the awesome GIFs by the way. Where do you get them? (I’m really new to all of this.)
Yes there is such a thing as a reading book diary: GOODREADS. XD Hehe. I have like specific shelves per year, so I keep all the books I\’ve read in one year together. OTherwise I would sooo not remember it. I want to finish the Ascendance trilogy!!
(I just get gifs off google search. Just type in whatever reaction you want. So like \”gif happy\” and aaall the things come up. xD)
Oh god do I have a BLOGGING GOAL! I NEED A NEW THEME BECAUSE MINE TUMBLR THEME SUCKS AND I NEED TO MAKE IT MORE ORGANISED!!! And that is all, but it consequently means I have to learn html and css coding… umm how’s that going Renee? Yeah not so well.
And the only books I’m waiting for in 2015 are The Ruby Circle and the last Raven Cycle book! Both, in which, I will probably cry. (And I’m not so sure that sentence was English???)
THIS WAS AN AWESOME POST! But then again, they always are! You’re writing is so sarcastic and hilarious I’d read any book you write! 😀
xoxo
What about a template?! lol I hear ya with the coding and html being too too scary. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEM AT ALL. It\’s downloadable themes for me or nada. >.>
I will most definitely cry. I cannot have Gansey die. I CANNOT.
I agree, I love a list! I was worried because I did this a few weeks ago, but not much has changed, so I am good.
So, 221 books? I don’t even have words. When do you sleep? It’s just so impressive! And yes you convinced me to buy (and read!) Dangerous Girls! I did also buy Throne of Glass but i haven’t read it yet. Now I am waiting for things to be thrown at me. I promise I will though!
So, to answer your question about blogging goals… my goals are a bit more general, but they involve things like “stop waiting 6 months to review stuff!” and “maybe schedule a post BEFORE 11:58 pm”. Just the little things that make me a complete mess 😉 I would tell you more, but I am in the process of creating my Top Ten Tuesday of book/blog resolutions. So I mean, I just don’t know yet!
I did it several weeks ago too! That\’s why there are horrible omissions here like Blue Lily. *gasp* I LOVE THAT BOOK but I literally only just read it.
I do not sleep. I read 24/7 like a bat. That\’s why the Batman socks suit me so much.
*holds off throwing things for 2.3 seconds* WELL. YOU NEED TO FIX THIS DREADFUL THRONE OF GLASS HOLE IN YOUR LIFE IN 2015 OR I WILL COME AT YOU AND GLARE. OKAY?!
I’ve had fun reading thru these ask over the place. I just finished reading The Darkest Part of the Forest yesterday. So glad Holly Black is one of your new favorite authors, I love her stuff!
HOLLY BLACK IS AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL. I wish I\’d read her books earlier! I\’m going to read her faerie series this year and wait anxiously for The Darkest Part of the Forest!!
This has reminded me that I really must go and start working on this very survey. Although it won’t go up until the 5th, because I insist on the year being over before I decide on my best books of the year. I mean, how do I know that I won’t read a world-changing book on New Year’s Eve?!
I think my only blogging goals for next year are to do some kind of give-away for my 1000th(!!!!) post, and to be more consistent about commenting and replying to comments…
It IS A problem. Like I read Blue Lily after writing this so it is horrifyingly absent from this list. *cries* FORGIVE ME.
Those are excellent blogging goals. I completely like them a lot.
I’m loving seeing all these yearly recaps around from other bloggers – they’re definitely a great way to sum up what’s happened in the last 12 months in bookish terms! It’s amazing that you’ve read that many books this year (go you!), and I hope that you reach your follower goal for next year (though I’m sure you will – this blog is awesome after all). All The Bright Places is a 2015 release I’m really recommending as well, it was heart-shattering and just GAH. I have so many emotions for that book. Anyway, best wishes for 2015 Cait 🙂
N\’awww, thanks, Eugenia. XD Fingers crossed for the 2K, lol. OMG YES ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES WAS COMPLETELY UNFAIR ON MY FEELS. I cried a bunch.
221, you are a reading monster girl! Those dreaded ‘favorite’ questions all the time, haha, how are we supposed to pick one? Especially if you’ve read so many books like you! I’m happy to see Crown of midnight there. I’m curious about Egg & Spoon, such a cute cover. CressCressCress, I’m very excited for Fairest and Winter. Awhhh, I’m blushing, thanks for mentioning me <3 I love your blog too an you don't have to give us anything back. Just be yourself and be around forever, that's enough 😉
I just ignored all the technicalities of these questions not being pluralised, didn\’t I?! HEHE. But favourite questions are not okay! I neeeed more Marissa Meyer. I\’m having a series withdrawal right about now. xD
I love it! I’ve been blogospherely-absent of late (cause, Christmas), but I’ll definitely be stirring my stumps for one more post of 2014 (which incidentally is a terrifying thing to say, I’m sure this year only just started) and linking up!
RE your choices, I’ve read very few of these books. I need to take a year, say, put my life on hold, speak to no one and read ALL THE BOOKS! I especially need to read Throne of Glass, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, All the Bright Places and We Were Liars. And Blue Lily, Lily Blue! How have I not got round to this yet?? Anyway I hope you have a happy new year and that puppy training goes well! (Fingers crossed … )
I STILL need to take like a year off and just read read read. I only started YA when I was 17 and I WILL NEVER EVER CATCH UP. *cries quietly* There are too many awesome stories and I truly want to read them all.
SO MANY BOOKS. AND SOOOOOO MANY QUESTIONS. I just finished writing my own version of this post, and it was somewhat exhausting. xD
I… darn you, Cait. You keep making me add to my already-way-too-freaking-long TBR list! Stooooooooooop ittttttttttttt.
Did I miss questions?! I feel like yours had some different ones that I don\’t remember answering. *facepalm* It would totally be just like me to not read the questions right. WE KNOW I\’M NOTORIouS FOR THAT.
Mwha ha ha ha. I will not stop. XD
Ensnared! It’s going to be the death of me, I know it!
YAAY You read Angelfall! I can’t wait for Book 3 to come out, I need more Raffe in my life.
Also, I ordered Dangerous Girls from Book Outlet so I can’t wait to see what’s so fab about it!
IT WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME TOO. I CANNOT EVEN SURVIVE THIS. *swan dives into oblivion*
I feel like I’m the only book blogger who hasn’t read Throne of Glass *cowers in shame*. I promise to read it next year.
*glares for 2.3 seconds*
JUST KIDDING.
But really…you must read it. 😉
I feel like I’m the only book blogger who hasn’t read Throne of Glass *cowers in shame*. I promise to read it next year! I just got Ari & Dante for Christmas so I’m looking forward to reading it next year. I am so freakin’ excited for All Fall Down!!!!!! Ally Carter is my absolute favorite, she said it was her best book yet and I don’t want to get too excited but I can’t help it!!!!! I also can’t wait for Winter and The Conspiracy of Us.
Hopefully for me next year, I will get better at organizing my blog.I should also reach out more and post more music!!! And maybe stop using so many exclamation points.
I feel like crying because I want, nay I NEED to read All The Bright Places and I have to wait until 2015 and until I have more money to buy books.. .lol. I really want to do this but at the same time… so many questions! Ah. My attention span is really low for this kind of thing, lol.
Not having money to buy books is the saddest part of my existence. I HEAR YOU. But trust me ATBP is amazing and I\’m so sure you\’ll love it.
YAY! You only read, oh, 10 TIMES the books I did! That’s awesome! *throws confetti and cupcakes*
AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SHOUT OUT!!!
Let’s see… most anticipated book for 2015 for me is either the 4th Raven Cycle book (that is next year, isn’t it?) or the fourth Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson (I think it’s called Shadows of Self). There might be others, but I’m not sure what… oh! The new Rick Riordan book! It’s NORSE MYTHOLOGY!!!
YAY FOR THE 4TH RAVEN CYCLE BOOK. OMG IT CANNOT COME FAST ENOUGH. I think it\’s next year? To be honest, I haven\’t checked for otherwise…although I am still waiting for the conclusion to her faerie series after seven freaking years of waiting. *dies a little inside*
I used to think I read a lot, but you very obviously have me beat, Cait dearest(may I call you Cait dearest?).
(Also, some GTWers started a Facebook group that I think you might like(or at least I would like having you in it). I can tell you more about it if you want.)
*pins badge of reading obesseion to self* Why thank you, Krissy dearest.
What kind of facebook group is it?? I\\’m in the main GTW group, although I feel like I should probably leave since I\\’m nearly 21 now. *sobs*
It’s basically just a bunch of (past or present) homeschoolers flailing about random stuff. XD It’s the best, and we’d love to have you. 🙂
I’m ever so sad you didn’t like Touch of Power, 13 Reasons Why, and The Bone Season! 🙁 I LOVED ALL OF THEM! But on a positive note I finally got round to reading Splintered and Half Bad!!!!! x) THEY WERE SO SO SO FRABJOUS LET US FANGIRL TOGETHER. XD
Oh, and here’s my survey: http://onceuponabookishtime.blogspot.co.nz/2014/1…
I feel like our tastes are very different, eh?! We seem to disagree on books a lot. :\'( WHICH IS SADNESS. BUT HEY. HUZZAH SINCE we both love Splintered and Half Bad and this makes me 1390142% happy THEY ARE MY FAVOURITE BOOKS OF THE WORLD.
I absolutely love lists as well. You are not alone there ^^ Oh, and I have yet to read 13 reasons why but I want to! I haven’t heard the most positive things about it, though :/ Doesn’t stop me 😛 Btw, 221 books is crazy! I wish I had your speed of reading, or reading time or whatever it is you do to make that happen ^^ Angefall looks so good as does Cruel Beauty! I want! Oh and TMI <333 bzrk is on this list! Makes me happy 😀 hehe
LISTS ARE LIFE.
Good luck with 13 Reasons! Like, I don\’t recommend it, but I\’m the same….if someone says a book is awful I read it just to see! XD BZRK IS TOTALLY UNDERRATED.
Aw, THANK YOU for mentioning me and my blog!! That means a lot to me. *hugs* And as for the rest of the post…We Were Liars shocked me too–did NOT see that twist coming!–and like you, I too think I have a crush on everyone in The Raven Boys. GAH. I’m actually rereading The Raven Boys now (and next up is The Dream Thieves) because I finally got Blue Lily, Lily Blue for Christmas and I want to remember EVERYTHING when I start it…and it doesn’t matter that this is my third or fourth time reading book #1, I still love it so. Much. Just doesn’t get old. 🙂 Also, because of your flailing I am seriously debating preordering a copy of All the Bright Places because it just sounds so awesome. Sounds like my kinda book, honestly!
Also, I think I may have read your discussion on books using your name, but that was before I’d started commenting on your posts…anyway, I have read books with my name–for instance, the protagonist in Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta is called Taylor–but it doesn’t usually strike me as too strange, except when there are MORE similarities. Like, in the book Counting Backwards by Laura Lascarso, the main character is called Taylor, but it wasn’t really weird until you get to the part where she goes to a juvenile correctional facility called Sunny Meadows. (Sunny Meadows was what my family called our small farm for years.) Or there was Hold Still by Nina LaCour, in which the love interest was called Taylor Riley–Taylor being my name, and Riley being my younger sister’s. Also the main character of that book was called Caitlin, and one of my friends at the time was Caitlyn. It was WEIRD.
But anyway–great recap! It would appear that you had an outstanding year of reading (So. Many. Books.) and I hope 2015 is just as awesome! Good luck finishing up those series! 😉
I 100% KNOW YOU WILL LOVE ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES. TRUST ME ON THIS, OKAY?!! IT WILL TEAR OUT YOUR HEART AND YOU WILL BE GLAD. Obviously. We bookworms love to cry. I don\’t know why no one gifts buckets and mops as bookworm christmas presents. *shrugs*
I want to reread the whole Raven Cycle! I\’m going to buy them I think…and then just reread because THEY ARE SO GOOD.
okay those are super weird coincidences! WOAH. And so many of them?! Once a tv show my nephew was watching had three characters called my mum, dad, and sisters\’ names. It was SO WEIRD. 0.0
I TRUST YOU, CAIT. When I say I “blame” you for all of your influence and recommendations and flailing, what I really mean is THANK YOU and YOU’RE AWESOME, so. 😉
I know, right? And that’s so strange about the TV show. Of all the names in the world, what are the odds, right?!
Crown of Midnight, eeeeeh!! City of Bones was very surprisingly amazing 🙂 Darn girl, 221 books!!?? I have to start All The Bright Places soon, I’ve heard nothing but great things about it. I’m anxiously waiting for ACOTAR and Ember in the Ashes too. Awesome responses hon 🙂
Seriously ATBP will rip out the heart but it is soooo good.
CAIT!! I have something important to share with you!! O_O
As you love making lists, you may have heard of the Literary Listography book. Here’s an example of some questions, and also a blog reviewed it and took some pictures. It seemed like something you’d might like. I personally just wanted to get the normal Listography book.
Now onto the point. It is awesome being able to read 221 in a year. You read a lot of Sci-Fi and Urban Fantasy, which is also awesomeness. I’d like to read a bit more sci-fi but fantasy will ever be my priority. Take Back The Skies and The Bone Season are both books on my wishlist but i’m getting the feeling I won’t like them. Haven’t heard the greatest things, and I struggled to get past the start of The Bone Season. =/
There IS a book I’m waiting for in 2015 – The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May, sequel to the Falconer! My heart wants it to much. I do have blog goals but I can’t even remember what they were, I’m gonna have to go and find that draft post I made. I made it to the end of the post, but I don’t think I can have much more cake… D= I’ve had so many sweet things since Christmas, I’m surprised my skin hasn’t broken out/teeth haven’t fallen out. Great post!
Oh. my. GOSH.
My life has been made. I did not realise how much I really needed that until now AND I HADN\’T HEARD OF IT BEFORE. YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY.
Yes, I didn\’t really like TBS or TBTS. SAAAADNESS. I felt the Bone Season was the same dryness all the way through, but heeeey, could just be me, right?!
I want to read Falconer! I\’ve seen it listed as an underrated book and eeeeeeek, I love reading un-shouted-about gems.
Fine. I\’ll eat your cake.
I had a feeling you’d like it! I just checked out the music one and I’m pretty eager to try that.
I doubt it, Bat-Cait/Caitoki. I’ve seen a lotttt of reviews that have said the same about TBS. =/ The Falconer was definitely my piece of cake. *watches you eat the cake* e_e Oh, you might find this useful when you get round to it: Scottish & Faery-Specific Terms for The Falconer. You can read the book without it, but I think it’ll help give it more meaning as you read. Hope you had a happy new year!
It makes me so HAPPY how much you mentioned the Throne of Glass series. I’m reading the second one right now and it’s AMAZING!! And I love it when someone else feels fangirly about something I’m reading:D
I’m looking forward to Winter so much! I finished Cress a few days ago, and I NEED WINTER RIGHT NOW!
Happy New Year!
afjdkslafd I have way too many feels about TOG. Seriously, I yell about them faaaar too much. NO NO I DON\’T. I DON\’T YELL ABOUT THEM ENOUGH. I SHOULD DO A POST ON WHY I LIKE THEM. xD
Okay lemme get my comments in the right order(I will list them for you, Cait XD)
1) YOU’VE READ THE FALSE PRINCE? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS. I haven’t read it yet but it’s sitting on my shelf waiting for attention. I’m pretty excited for it.
2) Unhinged cover XD I have some emotions toward that face that I never had before XD
3) COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES HAS A COVER? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS EITHER. MAYBE BECAUSE LIFE HAS BEEN BUSY AND STUFF. AHHH I AM MISSING OUT ON AWESOME STUFF.
4) there was a fourth comment I had and now I forgot it. Nuuuuuu.
OH, and how did Assassin’s Blade shock you? I’m so curious!!!
You made a list. :\’)
I LOVE THE FALSE PRINCE. I AM 98% SURE YOU WILL TOO.
jfadklsfad I am so glad Morpheus and you are seeing eye to eye. okay, at least in the same general direction. Or…OR JUST THAT HE HAS A PRETTY FACE. WHATEVER.
Wait. Did you read The Assassin\’s Blade? I don\’t wanna give spoilers though…
YUS of course I read Assassin’s Blade! That’s why I’m so curious, I wanna know which part(s) shocked you. You can email/pm me to avoid public spoilers though ^^
Morpheus’ face yus. just… him face XD
JUST CHECKING. >.> It was the ending! When Sam died! I JUST CRIED SO SO MUCH. And I already knew he was going to die, so yes. I am a sad sad little melon.
but wasn’t it weird reading that book and basically knowing how it ended and then you’re like “well I’ll just prepare myself and not get emotionally attached to Sam” “Okay wait but Sam is awesome and sweet, I’ll just deny that I know what happens”
*heart is crushed*
why do I do this
XD
EXACTLY. I just wasn't prepared for how much I'd like Sam. I thought, meh, I know he's going to die…and then afjdksla I got attached. STUPID, CAIT. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE GOT ATTACHED.
Wow! Nice job with your Goodreads challenge. I just recieved All the Bright Things and feel I need to prepare myself for this one with tissues and chocolate. I also need to finish TMI series. I just really liked how book 3 3 ended. I’m scared!
You definitely most assuredly need tissues and chocolate. XD Oh I promise TMI gets more awesome as it goes on! It\’s all Simon. He RULES the series.
OH MAN I totally agree with The Love Oracles, that was such a terribad book. So sad you didn’t like The Bone Season though as I loved it. And Yes, paranormal and urban fantasy is the best genre ever! AND YES DANGEROUS GIRLS AND THRONE OF GLASS BEST BOOKS EVER!
I’m not a re-reader either because why re-read when you can read new and shiny books?
Bird was really a pleasant surprised and so emotional yet beautiful.
This Shattered World was a completely beautiful cover! Although I feel like it’s slightly awkward.
YES TO CELAENA and CRESS. I mean how can we have that much awesome?
Cait I just want to say you have the most amazing discussion posts ever. I mean how does one pump out SO MANY and make them all awesome?
Happy New Year lovely, have an awesome 2015!
I knooooow I\’m so sad I didn\’t like TBS. 🙁 It was highly anticipated for me, but I think maybe I just missed the point? ERk. Some books are like that for me. Sadly.
SHINY BOOKS WIN PRIORITIES.
Aw, gawsh, thank you, Jeann! ^_^ I just prefer to discuss than review sometimes, but I DO feel a bit brain dead atm. >_< Must make a list of discussions for January!
I have heard so many good things about Dangerous Girls and I have been meaning to pick up the book for so long but completely forgot about it until these surveys came out. I have seen so many people talk about this book again, and never a bad word to be heard. I AM getting it this time.
Thanks for the reminder 😉
This post <3 you know how to make me chuckle.
I just stumbled upon your blog and have read two posts so far and I’m in love. I love that I can read about my favourite things ever (books) while getting to see the men from my favourite tv show (SPN). I love your use of gifs so much!
Now if you will excuse me, I will be binge reading your blog. XD
*waves* HELLO ASHLEY! Welcome to the crazy. XD And I am just a little tiny teeny bit mostly COMPLETELY obsessed with SPN. Those boys. THOSE BOYS. x)
