I have a gargantuan amount of love for the End of Year Book Survey hosted by Perpetual Page Turner! You want to know why? Well. I have one word for you: BOOOOOOOKS. Here is a post where I get to shriek unashamedly about my favourite books of 2015. Plus I get to make lists and give stats and basically — I am in heaven right now.
It’ll be a long post, my pineapple friends. BUT I’M NOT EVEN SORRY. BECAUSE BOOKS. (I know it’s hard to tell, but I have this mild addiction where I’d totally give up all the cake in this Galactic Universe for books. Books > everything else.)
(Oh and I am possibly cheating with some of the questions. Adding a few of my own and deleting some of the official ones. #RebelBookworm)
-~-
Also, SOMEHOW, mysteriously…I’m in the semi-final rounds of Epic Read’s Book Shimmy Awards for Booknerd of the Year Award! LIKE HOW??! The 7 other contestants are all Booktubers (and 1 instagramer) and just…gah I’m completely floored and amazed. Apparently all my shrieking is loved by the nations?!?? THANK YOU EVERYONE. So. Go vote for me.
NUMBER OF BOOKS READ
300. I. KNOW. It’s a lot. (Although I know people who’ve read more!!) And it’s the most I’ve ever read in one year and I maybe perhaps DOUBLED MY GOODREADS GOAL.
I appreciate that Goodreads believes I’m good at other stuff too…but…not really Goodreads? I spend all my time READING.
Also Goodreads has this “year in books” thing happening and here be mine.
STAR RATING AVERAGES
I honestly felt like I had a pretty lousy reading year…but my calculations say I gave 1/3 of the books I read 4-stars. SO THAT’S PRETTY FABULOUS. A lot of books I highly anticipated let me down though, so 2015 was not my best year of ever.
GENRE AVERAGES
“Do you like fantasy, Cait?” you ask. HOWEVER CAN YOU TELL. Fantasy wins, with contemporary coming second. I have my priorities in order, folks.
BEST BOOK(S) READ IN 2015
This question is always monstrously hard but — I’M GIVING IT A SOLID GO. Because I’m strong at heart.
BOOKS YOU WERE EXCITED ABOUT AND THOUGHT YOU’D LOVE BUT DIDN’T
- Queen of Shadows: was…ridiculous. I think it lost the point of who Celaena is. It totally lost the point of Chaol and Dorian.
- A Court of Thorns and Roses: was…featuring a horrifically sexist and abusive romance and calling it “hot and sexy”. ERM. NO???
- An Ember in the Ashes: was….violent for no reason with no world-building and NO SENSE AGHHHH.
- Me Being Me Is Exactly As Insane As You Being You: was…told entirely in lists and I wanted to love it so so bad. But it was boring.
BOOK YOU “PUSHED” THE MOST PEOPLE TO READ?
I actually rather pride myself on being able to sell books. I’ve missed my life calling. I OUGHT TO RUN A BOOKSTORE. So many people tweeted me to say they are reading Maggie Stiefvater books because of me! She’s my favourite author by the way. Just in case you didn’t know. BECAUSE I NEVER EVER EVER TALK ABOUT IT.*
* All lies. I talk of nothing else.
BEST SERIES YOU STARTED IN 2015? BEST SEQUEL OF 2015? BEST SERIES ENDER OF 2015?
- I started The Demon King series and — AM IN LOVE.
- Ensnared by AG Howard was a perfect series conclusion as well. My MOTH.
- Obviously Winter by Marissa Meyer was 100% perfection as well. She writes better and better with every book.
BEST BOOK FROM A GENRE YOU DON’T TYPICALLY READ?
I don’t lunge for contemporaries, because they’re sadly devoid of dragons. But I still ate some. And they were good.
MOST ACTION PACKED/THRILLING BOOK?
I’m always SO exhausted after a Rick Riordan book. Like, seriously, do they never pause for a nap??? Never? I need a nap after finishing one. And I read 11 this year so I might be a slight sleepless Riordan fangirl.
FAVOURITE COVER OF A BOOK YOU READ IN 2015
Is it just me or are the cover designers getting BETTER?!?! Because I’ve pounced on so. many. books this year because of cover love. NOT EVEN ASHAMED.
MOST MEMORABLE CHARACTER?
The evil computer A.I.D.A.N from Illuminae. He’s complex and terrifying and…also…relatable somehow? BUT ALSO BAD.
MOST BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN BOOK IN 2015
I could’ve eaten The Accident Season. That’s how gorgeous it was. I always eat things that are pretty. Why do you think I like cake? Hmm?
BOOK YOU CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WAITED UNTIL 2015 TO FINALLY READ?
OH SO MANY. SO MANY. It’s nearly embarrassing…but I really only started Rick Riordan this year! And also JK Rowling. Oh and Rae Carson. And I’ll be super shallow and admit Ellie Marney’s Sherlock tetelling series too. Why? Oh, only because I thought the covers were ugly. HOW SHALLOW AM I??!
BOOK THAT SHOCKED YOU THE MOST
Despite knowing and being warned and having no excuse in the at all of ever… A Song of Ice and Fire still shocked me. Plot twists. Certain deaths. The amount of newfound love I found for lemon cakes. That sort of thing. Excuse me, but aFtER tHiS sEIREs I aM nO lONgeR okAY aT aLL.
OTP OF THE YEAR
One true pairing? ONNNNNE? Try millions of true pairings. I’m not the most romantic overlord the world has ever known, but I do have a weakness for shipping shippable things. For example:
- Jack & Saba from Blood Red Road
- Blue & Simon from Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda
- Niklass & Aurora from Princess of Thorns
- Daenerys & Jon Snow from A Song of Ice And Fire (shhh I’m aware they’ve never met)
- Henry & Flora from A Game of Love and Death (this book was basically 100% about shipping)
FAVOURITE NON-ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP OF THE YEAR
Excellent friendships are the best in books. I will be a that puddle of feels on the floor over a friendship if given the chance. If not given the chance, I still will be.
- Newt & Thomas from The Death Cure
- Cinder & Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles (everything that comes out of Thorne’s mouth is golden)
- Amber & Milo from Demon Road (best adult + teen relationship of ever)
- Saba & Emmi from Blood Red Road (they’re sisters and both have the BEST character development)
- Kady & A.I.D.A.N from Illuminae (do not underestimate this duo)
BEST BOOK YOU READ IN 2015 THAT YOU READ BASED SOLELY ON RECOMMENDATION FROM SOMEBODY
Only 985393 people hounded me to read Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda. Was it good? WAS IT? Oh hold onto your pineapple fronds the answer is:
BEST 2015 DEBUT?
By this point I’m trying to mention books I haven’t talked about yet so…Made You Up?!?! I can’t believe it’s only a debut because it’s so smart and powerful and perfectly written. I had a feel. NO WAIT. I had like nine feels.
BOOKS THAT WERE FUN TO READ?
I adore funny books. I mean it’s hard to tell from my blog, of course — BUT I REALLY LIKE HUMOUR. So if you want to end up in stitches, here is your list:
BOOKS THAT MADE YOU CRY
The truth is…I don’t cry in books. I tear up. I wail on the inside. But actual tears? Please. This Vulcan is mildly offended.
I might’ve gotten a little foggy over Half Wild (when will they stop torturing my darling Nathan? I know…never) and A Storm of Swords (FOR OBVIOUS RED WEDDING REASONS) but seriously can George RR Martin leave no one alive? Please? There’s going to be NO ONE LEFT to finish the series!
Every time he kills someone, this is me:
So far results have not been good, but I’ll keep trying. I am no quitter.
HIDDEN GEMS OF THE YEAR
I honestly can’t believe Blood Red Road isn’t more famous. IT SHOULD BE. It is the kind of book I would wear as a hat to proclaim my love for it every time I leave the house. But also:
BOOK THAT CRUSHED YOUR SOUL
I REFUSE TO MENTION GEORGE RR MARTIN AGAIN. Skulduggery Pleasant always leaves me howling, because it makes a joke and — while you’re still snorting with laughter — it then kills everything you love. How is that fair???? Please, Derek Landy, what did we ever do to you??? Stop killing everything!!
Except, of course, Skulduggery himself is a living skeleton so…
What a relief.
MOST UNIQUE BOOK YOU READ
Challenger Deep was like…woah. It actually made me dizzy in the beginning…but then it wound all the confusing schizophrenic plot lines together into this tale that made me hiccup with feels.
BOOK THAT MADE YOU MAD
I’M SO SO SICKENINGLY FURIOUS AT THE PANEM COMPANION. I had to shout it. I had to. Rage doesn’t even cover it. Gah. It was a bunch of fan theories with the official “Mockingjay” stamp to make us think it was legit. NO. Plus it actually dissed the series. Plus it was wrong. Plus…plus…LET’S JUST LET IT BURN WITH FIRE.
NEW FAVOURITE BLOGS DISCOVERED IN 2015?
I’m horrible, I truly am and I’ll confess and you can admit it. (Actually totally don’t. I have dragons and, like, an army, so don’t offend me, yes? Good job.) But I DON’T REMEMBER. I should write down the date when I make my friends, seriously. So I’ll just go ahead and list the top blogs I’ve been stalking reading this year.
The Quiet People // Nellie And Co // The Devil Orders Take Out // Loony Literate // Chasing Faerytales // The Honest Bookclub // It Starts At Midnight // Out of Coffee Out of Mind // Rambling Writer // Istyria Book Blog // Twirling Pages //
FAVOURITE POSTS I WROTE
Making me choose between my children…sheesh.
- 10 Things You Should Regularly Tell Writers — this one went (semi?) viral and got 7,000-pageviews in ONE DAY. EEEP. Trust me, that is not normal and has never happened again.
- How To Be Kind To Book Bloggers — squishy feels ahead, you’ve been warned
- Why Is There So Much Sexism In Epic Fantasy — I still ask myself this…every time I read a fantasy, dangit
- The 10 Types of Writers — funness involved
- 10 Problems of Being an Adult Reading YA — apparently I like lists of 10, okay? Okay.
- Wherein I Review Food As If It Was a Book — I rather amused myself writing this

BEST BLOGGING/BOOKISH MOMENTS OF 2015?
OH OH. Some stupendous things happened to me, okay?! And I’m eternally thankful for so so many of them, but it calls for a list. (Everything calls for a list today.)
- I got into the semi-finals of the Epic Reads Book Shimmy Awards!! LIKE, HELLO, WHAT?!?! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO TINY, SHRIEKING, FANGIRLING ME? I never dreamed that would happen. I still feel like a small dilapidated blogger who just pretends to know what they’re doing…
- Including my blog, instagram, goodreads, tumblr, and twitter I have, collectively — 10,000 followers. Um. Okay. Sooooo. Can I shriek now? Or maybe pass out? OR BOTH TOGETHER???? LET’S HAVE CAKE AND CELEBRATE.
- I wrote 3 books which I’m intensely proud of, one with dragons, one with heists, and one about pianos.
- I read the MOST books this year than any other year of my life.
- I got hired to blog at Boomerang books!
- My etsy store really took off. I will be rich and famous soon and buying my own planet. I shall call the planet Ian.
MOST CHALLENGING THING ABOUT YOUR BLOGGING/READING LIFE THIS YEAR
- Finding…time. I mean, my life circumstances haven’t changed but my blog is getting huger and if I intend to attack everyone with friendship like a friendly shark, it takes longer.
- I’ve also had a really challenging year health wise. This impacts blogging, heck yes it does. Anxiety has run rampant through the streets. This is a repurposed Megamind quote…so you get cookies from the dark side if you got that!
- My own competitiveness is exhausting. Yes competitiveness WITH MYSELF. For the last 3 years I’ve nearly doubled my reading goals. Um, I am not reading 600 books next year okay, brain? OKAY??!?!? So realising I can’t always read a book a day, and I can’t always write a good blog post, and I can’t always write a book super fast is…hard.
- I’m ridiculous I know.
- BUT IT’S WHO I AM, BOB.
- I haven’t found a whole ton of books I’m in love with. Am I getting harder to please?? Was 2015 not the year of voluminous grand releases? WHO CAN KNOW. But it’s depressing to read lots of low-star books.
- DARN MY LIBRARY WITH ITS REFUSAL TO BUY NEW RELEASES. I can’t complain because they do have a good selection. But just not new. Shiny and new is my weakness, okay?
BOOKS YOU DIDN’T GET TO IN 2015, SO WILL BE TOP PRIORITY NEXT YEAR
Oh gosh. SO MANY. I didn’t do fabulously well with actual 2015 releases, so let’s ignore those. BUT these are in my possession currently and should’ve been read by now. 300 books read but what have I been doing?
2016 BOOKS YOU ARE HIGHLY ANTICIPATING
I did a WHOLE POST of 2016 books I want to snabble up right now (please, someone, get me a time machine and let’s go forth), but here are the top ones:
THINGS YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN YOUR READING/BLOGGING LIFE IN 2016?
- Bring down my iron ruling upon the world.
- (But there will be cake so stop complaining.)
- BECOME THE MOST FAMOUS BLOGGER OF EEEEEVER. (Shhh. Let me dream.)
- Get my instagram to 5,000 followers.
- Introduce more bookish items into my etsy store and maybe open a society6 store?! I’VE GOT PLANS, HUMANS.
- Read 300 books again!
- Host more giveaways…because I did like 3 this year and that seems very puny.
- IMPROVE MY BLOGGING SKILLS. Because no matter what I want to get better at blogging, at designing graphics, at taking photos, at writing. And I’m always ALL EARS to tips and advice — so let ’em at me if you dare.
Finally… THANK YOU for reading this post! Because, sheesh. I had a lot of books to shriek about, didn’t I?!?!
But also thank you in general…for supporting my blog and leaving comments and calling me Cake and humouring me overuse of the word pineapple and and…and…JUST EVERYTHING. For all the comments too, especially, because your comments mean so so much to me. I like you very much. When I take the world, you all get cookies from the dark side.
Also my giveaway is still running from my survey post so ENTER IF YOU WISH IT. Open internationally!
So I had loads of thoughts to put in a comment but GOSH THIS POST WAS LONG and I forgot so much. I know you warned us, but still …
Okay, here’s the stuff I actually remember thinking.
1. OMG have you finished the 5 ASOIAF books? HOLD ME. We can wait for Winds of Winter together.
2. I can’t believe you haven’t read A Darker Shade of Magic. The sequel comes out in February and I miiiight be holding a giveaway for ADSOM then just because EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT.
3. Oh yes congratulations on being in the semifinals of the Big Important Book Award. I genuinely don’t remember its name. But congratulations muchly! (Although really, of COURSE I voted for you because I’m not at all in the booktube/bookstagram community. Dragons and army aside.)
4. Thank you for the shout out! 😀 😀 😀
5. I’ve forgotten the other stuff I wanted to say so favourite books: did I scream A Darker Shade of Magic? Yes? WELL I’LL SCREAM IT AGAIN. Erm, I read a lot of books but not many fantastic-yes-so-much books … basically I will just insist on being a #RebelBookworm and suggest Beyond the Red by Ava Jae (I read the eARC this year but it comes out March 2016.)
That is my fault for writing too long of a post. 😂 I CAN’T HELP IT. SO MANY BOOKS, ALYSSA. THEY ALL NEED TO BE SPOKEN OF.
And yeS I finished all the ASOIAF books and am basically not okay and need bk 6 and why doesn’t it even have a release date, Alyssa? WHyyyyyyyy. What TORMENT is this??!?! (And plus I figure it’ll have to be released IN Winter in America, so it’ll be at least another year from now. AT LEAST. *sobs* Probably more like 6 years from now.)
Omg, the second ADSOM comes out in February?! YIKES. BETTER GET READING. Although that’s kind of good because at least I won’t forget the first one by the time I go to read the second!
Thank you for all your super nice comments and support and writerly advice this year, Alyssa. <3 I APPRECIATE IT ENORMOUSLY.
FYI, TWOW doesn’t have a release date because the last couple times GRRM tried to follow a release date it didn’t work … so they’re just not announcing it until he’s done. THE INJUSTICE. But he also did say that they wouldn’t try to time it with Thanksgiving or Christmas or anything just for the sake of timing, so.
THANK YOU CAIT. YOU’RE SUCH A NICE QUEEN (sometimes).
I am so happy to the love for Simon here Cait! 😀 I will most certainly go down with this ship. Also, you’ll be ecstatic to know that Made You Up in on my January TBR to read during the Clean Slate Read-a-Thon.
Also, yay thank you for the mention! 😀 And I do hope you get to read A Darker Shade of Magic soon because it’s amazing. Truly.
I AM HAPPY TO KNOW THAT. *nods wildly* I’ll be even happier of you like Mad You Up. 😉 And isn’t Simon’s getting a sequel?! I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT IMMENSELY.
I know! It’s more of a spin-off though, but Simon and Blue will appear in it. 🙂
Maggie Steifvater is possibly some sort of deity sent to torture us. #SaveGansey2015
A truer statement was not ever said. #SaveGanseyFromHisAuthor
OH MY GOD! I only found your blog yesterday and can’t get enough. I am so happy I found your blog! I really enjoy everything, you don’t write as if you are writing, you write as if you’re talking. That is one of the things I love in blogs. I am a happy minion at your service and can’t wait for your next post:)
OH HELLO!! WELCOME, LEAH!! *waves wildly* (I usually answer comments faster than this?! SO SO SORRY! I’ve just been slacking off with a bit of a holiday.😂) AHEM. But anyway. I’m glad you like my blog!! THAT BASICALLY MAKES MY DAY. <3
AHHHHH CAIT SO MANY THINGS HAPPENING. INSANELY PROUD OF YOUR WORLD DOMINATION SKILLS THIS YEAR. HURRAH. (also at this moment I’m supposed to be doing the rewriting thing but shhhh, you’re on your hour break so you can be quiet). OMG though so many 2016 books look good. I may need a few more jobs to be able to pay for them all O_O
Oh well I am CLEARLY in no place to give twitchy looks about the rewriteathon CONSIDERING HOW BADLY I’VE BEEN DOING. 😂 But hey! I have got SOMETHING to show for it at least. hehe. I think maybe I’ll just go digging for gold? Or, ya know, sell my sister? I gotta raise the cash somehow for all these books…
YAY for the Book Shimmy Awards!!!!
I was hoping you’d make it to semi-finals! You TOTALLY deserve it!
(seriously, you are amazing. Never stop blogging).
And I have read ALL the Maggie Stiefvater books! Except for Scorpio Races, which I own (I’ll read it really soon, I promise!)
AND NOW I GOT TO THE FINALS AND FAJSDKLAFSD I CANNOT BELIEVE IT, THANK YOU, CASSIE. <3 It's a bit crazy. 😂 And YES MA'AM . *salutes* I shall be the 70 year old granny blogging about YA books and no one will stop me.
All Fall Down, I’ll Give You The Sun and Half Bad, hands down. But you saw at least the first one coming, didn’t you? 😉
I’ve now read all of Stiefvater’s books apart from Lament and Ballad. Pretty good going considering that I hadn’t read ANY of her books before December last year.
Time is evil. There’s never enough of it and it’s always running away.
I DID. And I love all those books too so obviously we have epic literary taste *hi fives* Omg, are you going to read Lament and Ballad?!? I just bought Ballad because it’s been…eh, 3 or 4 years since I read it?! REREAD IS DUE. And my Stiefvater shrine needs feeding of course.
Of course I am – I just have to find them first 😉
YES, CAIT, YOU MUST READ A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC. I freaking love that book so, SO much. My star rating on Goodreads was EMBARASSINGLY low. Like, I’ve always been a harsh reader (I can’t help it, okay!?) and I have no idea if that’s just because I’m getting even tougher, or just because I’m not choosing the books I’ll like. *shrugs* Maybe next year will be better.
IT’S TOP OF MY TBR FOR 2016 I SWEAR. 😂 I really don’t know why I haven’t read it yet, though?!? I’m like 99% sure I’ll love it!
And I’m such a harsh reader too. I mean 3.3 stars I guess isn’t TOO bad? But it does feel bad. *wails*
Wow, that’s…. a looooooooot of books! I wish I had the ability to buy books as fast you do! 😀 I just need to hitch a dragon ride and loot gringotts and then nobody would be able to stop me from buying all the books in this world!! *evil laughter* Aside from that congraaaaaatulations for the nomination and of course I voted for my dragonish lordship! Aaaaand I really need to add some books from here to my tbr and I prooomise that I’m definitely going to read Maggie Steivater’s books next year!
OMGOMGOMG!! Stupid typo! I meant *STIEFVATER!!!!
Oh and I forgot to answer the 2nd part of your question. I would recommend The Ugly Stepsister by Aya Ling, The Reluctant Sacrifice by Kerr-Ann Dempster and Butterfly Dreams by A. Meredith Walters. These are the first ones that came to my mind and I adored these 3 books VERYYYY MUCH!
HEHE, WELL. I do get most of my books from the library and publishers. 😂 I actually don’t buy that many! Unless it’s a library sale or something…because poordom. hehe. 😂😂 I WILL HELP YOU LOOT GRINGOTTS TOO, THOUGH, IF YOU WANT. You might need a look out, yes?
Lucky you. Neither do I have a library here nor do publishers send physical arcs overseas! Nonetheless, YES I NEED A PARTNER IN CRIME! xD
300 books. Stars above, Cait! That’s a lot of reading! I’m impressed . . . I wish I could read that much. (Ok, I probably could if I spent less time on the internet and more time in books, but . . . roleplays are addictive.)
So many awesome books here I don’t know how to respond to it all. But to answer your questions . . . no, I have not read any Maggie Stiefvater. And . . . three books I would recomment?
-FIREFIGHT by Brandon Sanderson (second in a series- read Steelheart first, and then flail after you’ve read both books because Calamity doesn’t come out until February 16th)
-SHADOWS OF SELF by Brandon Sanderson (also second in a series, or fifth- read the original Mistborn trilogy plus The Alloy of Law, and then be sad because Bands of Mourning also doesn’t come out until January 26th. And then be sadder because you thought it was Calamity coming out the 26th and Bands of Mourning in February and as much as you love Wax and Wayne, you desperately need to find out what happens to the Reckoners characters.0
-ILLUSIONARIUM by Heather Dixon which is dark and creepy and brilliant and fabulous.
But choosing only three books is haaaaard. >.<
HEHEHE. Well, that’s really my secret! I don’t watch TV or anything, I JUST READ ALL THE TIME. *nods* I mean, I do write too…and actually next year I tentatively want to write more and read a bit less? But I’m addicted to reading so we’ll see how that goes. 😂
I’M GOING TO READ STEELHEART SOON!! It’s literally in my shopping basket online. 😂 I’ve heard excellently good things. And basically I just need to read more Sanderson? I’ve only read The Final Empire.
I don’t watch TV either . . . but I do probably spend more time on the internet than I should. So. I wish you all the luck in the world with writing more next year. (Weirdly, I feel like I’m going to be writing less than usual next year, but that’s mostly because I want to focus on editing.)
HUZZAH! YOU WILL LOVE IT! And yes, you should basically just read all the Sanderson . . . except IDK about the Alcatraz books, because I know a lot of people who love them but I honestly don’t. 😛 But the rest of Sanderson’s books are amazing. If occasionally intimidating.
Great post, Cait. I cannot believe Ink & Bone has not gotten more press. It is easily the best YA book I read this year.
Happy Holidays!
I know right?! I think it deserves more!! I mean books about books…yOU CAN’T GO WRONG.
I had a friend on Goodreads tell me about this little goal setter you can do and I’m really looking forward to doing it for 2016. I need to do so much more reading. I’ve been in a slump for the past few years. It’s just time, projects, responsibilities my mother frowning upon me reading until 4 a.m…. These things are getting in my way. *pouts* But following this blog has inspired me to get back into it.
Also, you’re bookshelf is the stuff of dreams. *drools*
Agh, time is the ETERNAL struggle right?! I need like 8939 more hours in my day too. *nods* THINK HOW MUCH I COULD READ THEN! 😂 Ah, but the goodreads goal is my FAVOURITE and it’s my #1 challenge for the year.
WHAT? Semifinalist for Book nerd of the year??? You are truly fabulous, and I’m so glad everyone knows it. World domination is next!
Also, I am so in love with Goodreads “year in books” It’s designy, and has charts and stuff, and . . . . ugh, I just love it.
AND NOW FINALIST. I best go shopping for my world domination crown. It’s COMING.
Also I do so love that Goodreads year in books thing! IT IS INCREDIBLE.
But Cait, making a post like this sounds like effort and making graphics. These are not skills of mine.
Okay, okay, three books from what I’ve read this year. Hm.
Hm.
Hm.
The Wicked + The Divine by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. SO PRETTY.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. This is not something I expect to be everybody’s thing because it’s quite serious and has made up words and it’s more about characters than plot, but oh, I love it so much.
A Taste of Blood Wine by Freda Warrington. Vampires as fascinating but also weird and morally twisted and prose you want to eat. Or I want to, anyway.
Ooh, these all sound amazing! I’m not like into vampires hugely…but prose you want to eat?! THAT SELLS ME.
Yes, I guess you can say posts like these take a lot of effort. ;D I don’t mind. I love it. 😂
300 BOOKS OMG WHAAAAT? AND YOU’RE STILL ALIVE AT THE END OF IT???
I can’t wait to see what 2016 brings for both Paper Fury and for you Cait! <3
Omg I'm only on Crown of Midnight and no no no Chaol and Dorian? Lost the point of them? I'm scared, Cait, what will happen when I reach Queen of Shadows?! I might cry if there is insufficient amounts of Chaol and Dorian.
A LITTLE LACKING OF SLEEP BUT OTHERWISE. AAAAALIVE. hehehh. I am having a reading break right now till Jan 1st. Just…sleeping. Lazing around. Letting my mind blob. 😂
AW THANKS, REBEKAH. I’ve loved all your comments this year and appreciate them a BILLION percent. Just so you know!
But I do hope you like Crown of Midnight…just IGNORE ME AND MAKE YOUR OWN OPINIONS. 😂 hehe. CoM absolutely blew me away by the end.
This was a ton of fun to read and I think my favorite parts were the Psych and The Princess Bride gifs because they were so appropriate. I am also really tempted to check out Demon Road now. Because funny + demons? Why not?
EXACTLY. Nothing can go wrong with Demon Road. *nods* Have you watched Supernatural? It’s a little bit like that too. 😀
I have not, actually, but I heard it’s basically a Buffy-ripoff with heavier religious motifs and two dudes instead of a slayer?
Ahhh, well I haven’t seen Buffy so I couldn’t say. 😂 I do so love it though!
This. Post.
You had me in stitches and I loved it! (I cannot wait for my cookies from the dark side!! Mmmm!) Carry On is a high priority for me this next year also! I just finished Fangirl last week so, yes, I really need to catch up there! I LOVE RICK RIORDAN!!!! That’s all on that subject.
And, sadly, sooo very sadly I have not read any Maggie Stiefvater books. Eeeeeep! This is also a high priority for me in 2016!!
You. Rule.
That’s all! MUAH!!!!!!!!
AHHHHH THAT IS GLORIOUS NEWS. *commences happy dance* *gives you cookies from the dark side* I could seriously handle a Fangirl reread right about now…eeeep! It’s been YEARS but I love that book so much. :’)
OMG YOU MUST FIX THE STIEFVATER SHAPED HOLE IN YOUR LIFE ASAP.
Awww, I’m sorry you’ve been having more anxiety trouble this year. 🙁 Here, have this giant virtual cake which will make everything better BECAUSE CAKE. I think this has been a harder year for me as well with managing my PTSD and all, but I think that was partially because I was in a car accident on the interstate, which set me back a bunch.
AND OH MY GOODNESS, THANK YOU FOR LISTING MY BLOG. You are my new favoritest person ever. I will shower you with cake crumbs and confetti and name all my pet dragons after you.
You have read so many books this year–I’m thinking I need to take a page from your book and try to raise my bookish goal next year (this year’s was 111 books, and I’ve read 114 so far, which is pitiful compared to your count–I have been very lazy this year, apparently). Also, I am jealous of all the books you’ve been able to get your hands on. I’m actually in a much better position financially now, so as soon as I get a MacBook to replace my clunky Dell, I’m going to be spending a regular bookish fund, so that will help. And I will library. I really must library. But the problem with libraries is that you have to return the books when you’re done with them. Which is lame.
As for the top three books I’ve read this year, I would definitely recommend Imaginary Girls, Divergent (which was a reread, but whatever), and, let’s see, (GAH, SO HARD TO CHOOSE ONLY THREE, YOU ARE SO CRUEL, CAKE), I guess The Knife of Never Letting Go. But there are so many others that I would love everyone ever to read and I cannot choose three. It is too cruel. *sulks*
I shall take the virtual cake with thanks because we ALL KNOW: cake cures all. <-- legit truth there. Omg, I didn't know you had PTSD. *gives YOU cake this time* I hope 2016 is a better year for you too. AND OF COURSE I LOVE YOUR BLOG. You are becoming my writing inspiration with your insanely amazing abilities!! And pfft, come on. You wrote like a bazillion words in one month. 😂 Reading less is understandable!! HEHE. OMG MACBOOK FOR THE WIN THOUGH. Library solves 90% of bookworm problems. Giving them back IS hard. But library sales? They are glorious. Hey but at least I said 3 and not 1. So I'm a little bit nice. A teeny tiny microscopically bit nice.
SO HAPPY TO SEE SO MUCH DEREK LANDY LOVE. I cannot wait for the second Demon Road book squee! Also congrats for being nominated for the Book Shimmy Awards, writing THREE books (well done!!!) and reading 300 books! I’m sorry to hear about your anxiety, mine gets quite bad too – it’s AWFUL. I hope 2016 is a wonderful year for you!
And I promise I’ll finish Skulduggery Pleasant next year!! PROMISE. 😂 AFJDLSAD THANK YOU THOUGH, KARA. THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME. <3 Anxiety is a tough beast. *sigh* I hope 2016 is epic for you too!
I have SOOOO much fun reading these end of the year surveys on everyone’s blogs at the end of the year.
I had a similar experience with 2015 books–a lot of them didn’t really wow me as much as expected? But then there were some I LOVED. I think for me what happened is that the 2015 releases I loved were REALLY, REALLY, GOOD, but there were just as many “meh” or “average” books, whereas I normally have a lot more of “This book is really good and I enjoyed it, but it’s not a new favorite-4 stars” ratings. (And I am glad I am not the only one who had issues with An Ember in the Ashes!)
The Cinder & Thorne friendship from The Lunar Chronicles is also one of my favorite non-romance relationship. They play off each other so well! I love the snarkiness.
As far as 3 books from the year I would recommend, gah, you ask the hard questions. I think they would be Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick, The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and . . . . hmm. Illuminae, I think.
YAY I’M GLAD YOU LIKED IT, STORMY! These recaps are HEAPS of fun to put together (although a little time consuming?!?) and yeah…2015 was a bit of a let down. *sigh* I hope 2016 is better…although SO many of my favuorite series are ending and I haven’t gotten NEW favourite series to take them over. So little worried about that….
(Omg, I have SO many issues with An Ember in the Ashes, I basically flayed it in my review. OOPS. I felt really bad. But gah, I don’t get the hype. at. all.)
Cinder and Thorne FOREVER. I ship them as platonic friends. 😂 If that makes sense.
Ooh, I want to read more by Marcus Sedgwick!! I LOVED ILLUMINAE.
I’ve never heard of the Shimmy Awards, but i’ll be sure to vote for you!
my three books would probably be The Monument series, The Grimm Conclusion (and the two books before it), and the shadow throne. so what if i read that last one last year. i reread it this year and will probably reread the first and second book again before the year ends.
and, are you sitting down, cause you should probably get comfortable for this news….I haven’t actually, like, read a Maggie Stiefvater book. BUT DON’T WORRY, I WILL. I PROMISE. JUST GIVE ME MORE TIME!!!!!!!!!!
Yayyy, thank you! 😀 But seriously now…are you feeling okay? YOU DIDN’T MENTION THE FALSE PRINCE IN THIS COMMENT. *pats your shoulder and gives you cake* Just so you know, I plan to finish taht series next year as well. ;D HEHE 😂
ANYWAY.
I haven’t even heard of your top 3 books! AHHH. I need to look them up directly!! And YES you need to try a Stiefvater book!! *taps foot impatiently*
I have been shoving The Accident Season is people’s faces and basically telling them, “read it or I will disown you.” On top of that….maybe Throne of Glass and Fangirl? And I agree with you that this felt like a so-so reading year. There were good books, but there weren’t a TON of them. Not nearly enough to keep me satisfied. So maybe next year, especially because it seems like ten tons of debuts are coming out next year and maybe they’re all by really fantastic new authors.
AND MAGGIE STIEFVATER BOOKS! I’ve been stalking her darknovel tag on Tumblr obsessively. I wish to know more about it. As soon as possible (I would like all the information by tomorrow, please and thank you).
That is basically ME and the Accident Season too. I want to hug it and reread it and hug it again and maybe just stroke it’s gorgeous pages because I KIND OF LOVE IT. THAT IS ALL. *ahem* And yessss! I just though 2015 was a bit slack for MINDBLOWING books. Most of the good ones I read were old. :'( Except for Bone Gap and Accident Season and TW&TD of course.
WAIT WAIT WAIT. WHAT DARK NOVLE!?? IS SHE WRITING A NEW NOVEL? ERMAGERD, AINE. IS SHE? IS SHE?
YES SHE IS. I don’t know a ton about it, only that it has magic in it and, judging from what she tags stuff on Tumblr, it is dark.
She’s also writing what she calls girlnovel, which is adult and not YA, and I don’t know a ton about that, either.
All that I really know is that I’m going to read them both the instant they come out.
ERMAGERD I AM SO SO SOOO RELIEVED. *collapses in a heap of happiness* I hadn’t heard anything so I was worried she’d take a writing break. And then I would die. I need a Stiefvater book. At least ONE ever year.
ONLY THREE????? *curls up on the floor and dies*
He we go!! Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ………………. Resistance by Jaye L. Knight, Reapers by Bryan Davis, and Dare by Tricia Mingerink. There. Three. Gosh, why do you torture us pineapples so???!!!!!
BECAUSE TORTURE IS WHO I AM. MWAHHAHA. Ahem. Also. I have not even heard of any of these 3 books…sheesh. What have I been doing with my life?! CLEARLY NOTHING GOOD.😂
AHH. I adore this post Cait! Your answers are absolutely fabulous and your GIF usage is on point. xD I absolutely adored Winter, Blood Red Road, The Accident Season and Bone Gap – those are definitely four of my favorite books of the year as well. (No surprises there – hehe). And yeah, I agree about A Court of Thorns and Roses and Ember in the Ashes – they were definitely a bit underwhelming for me as well. 🙁 Are you planning on reading the sequels though? (I’ll probably just stand behind you and wait until you read them and see if they get your Stamp of Approval.) And Rick Riordan is definitely action-packed. I’m glad you finally jumped on the bandwagon. (Better late than never, right? 😉 (Although I’m not sure if I’d consider Mark of Athena “fun to read.” More like hyperventilating because POOR ANNABETH) .And haha…of course you would describe A.I.D.A.N as the most memorable character. 😉 Thanks for sharing my twin and, as always, fabulous recap / post! ♥
ZOMG I’M GLAD YOU LIKED THE ACCIDENT SEASON. Even though it was romancey and also magical realism?! :’) AWw, Zoe. YOU’RE WONDERFUL. I think I’ll read the sequel for Ember in the Ashes…but seriously? I feel so let down by SJM I don’t want to read any more of her books. D: SO yeah. Not sure what I’ll end up doing there. The hype sometimes gets to me….SO YEAH.
ABSOLUTELY YES TO RIORIDAN. I’m glad I binged so many of his books this year! Although now I have to join the agony of only reading one per year with everyone else. 😂
AIDAN WAS FABULOUS AND FREAKY. I lurve him. Or it? Whatever. LOVE. XD😂
….. that is a lot of books. I read the puny amount of 214 books. But I beat my goal of 150 halfway through the year? I would have read more, but I got in a major reading slump after finishing Harry Potter.
OH AND AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PAPER FURY PINEAPPLES:
GO AND VOTE FOR CAIT ON THIS THING.
Check out this article: Best YA Book Blogs of 2015 – Nominate your favorite! – http://urbanepics.com/best-ya-book-blogs-of-2015-nominate-your-favorite/
PFFT. HOW IS THAT PUNY!?!? THAT IS MAGNIFICENT. I set my goal at 150 to be low on purpose…so I could overachieve. I KNOW I’M BAD. 😂 I can’t help it.
AWWW. WHAT IS THIS?!? I’m checking it out immediately. Squee!
How do you read 300 books in a year, have a blog that is gorgeous, popular, and has several posts every week, write three books, and keep up with normal human stuff? You extremely baffle me in so many ways. I love the graphics in this post.
shh.. I clicked enter without entering all the information.
I DON’T DO NORMAL HUMAN STUFF. Books > everything else. 😂 But seriously, I have been slack lately! Like I’m answering this comment a week late. AHHH FORGIVE ME. XD But seriously, thank you for the nice words!!
What is society6??? I NEED TO KNOW THIS SINCE YOU MENTIONED IT IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS ETSY.
ALSO NUUUUU I did not give your health permission to give you problems. *fixes it with essential oils and your anxiety with love and huggles* my Caken cannot be sick. I have decreed it.
IT IS A PLACE OF MAGIC. Like redbubble. *nods* You upload your own designs to it and make cool epic mugs and pillows and things. I don’t think it’d earn a LOT…and my design skills are pretty awful. But I’d like to convert some of the random/fun things I say on twitter into merchandise. ;P WE’LL SEE IF THAT WORKS OUT. hehehh
I appreciate the decree. I DO.
OH WOW I WOULD BUY ALL THE THINGS
ALL THE CAIT SAYING
YES I NEED THEM IN MUGS AND TSHIRTS AND ALL THE THINGS
and quotes from your books yes?????????
I ADORE this survey! I won’t do mine before I’ve reached the goal of my Goodreads challenge though :’) 2,5 books to go! I love your answers! Carry On is on my TBR as well for next year. I’m currently reading Attachments and becoming even more convinced of the genius of Rainbow Rowell. I LOVE HER. Also good to see you loved Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda so much! It’s been on my TBR for quite a while – hopefully I’ll get to it next year!
GOOD LUCK FINISHING YOUR CHALLENGE *cheers quietly from the sidelines for you* I’ve basically read nothing since I put this up. 😂 Holidays are good sometimes, hehe. And ohhh, we’ll have to compare Carry On thoughts! 😀
Gah! I love this time of year even more because of these posts^^ I’m working on mine as we speak 😀
I LOVED reading your answers Cait and clearly you’ve had a fabulous 2015 bookish/blogging wise! I still need to read Winter (should be my next read), The Demon King, Dustlands, Princess of Thorns BUT I VOW to in 2016 OK?! I’m also working my way through The Heroes of Olympus series atm…though I’ve only read the first one…shhh…
The Raven King is my #1 anticipated read for next year. I need it like air. Oh and I really hope that you DO read A Darker Shade of Magic in 2016 because it.was.awesome. I wish you wonderful Holidays and lots of bookish goodness in the new year ♥
They’re so fun to put together right?! BUT ALSO TIME CONSUMING. *dies a little* I spent hours on mine, heheh. BUT WORTH IT. *nods* And here’s to a fabulous 2016 for you too!! 2015 was my Rick Riordan year.😂 SO WORTH IT. Heroes of Olympus series is my favourite of all his books!!
I NEED THE RAVEN KING LIKE I NEED AIR TOO. Although I’m petrified someone I love is going to die. *collapses in a heap wailing*
I had so. much. fun. reading this post. <3 Evidently I don't care HOW long Cait posts are and read every word of them. 😀 So wonderful to see your year in books and I just loooooved it!
Oh my goodness YOU READ 300 BOOKS THIS YEAR ALSKDJFLSKDJFLSKDJF. NOPE I AM DONE. *falls over* *revives*
I have added four out of your six top favorites as to read… that's a start, right? 😉
I need to read aaaall of the Skulduggery's because HUMOR. (And Ink and Bone…)
I SAW YOU'RE ON THE SEMI-FINALS ON TWITTER AND VOTED FOR YOU. YOU'RE THE MOST AWESOME BOOK BLOGGER EVAR. <3 (I.e. you totally deserve your 10k(!!!) followers. ^_^)
AND YOU WROTE THREE BOOKS THIS YEAR HUZZAH! You amaze me. I wrote IN a few, but only wrote two ENTIRE short stories and an entire novella. Um. Yes.
I'M MOVING TO PLANET IAN.
Don't compete too much with yourself, okay? *huggles* It's okay to relax a little, and I hope your health will improve! <3 *major huggles* WE LOVE YOU CAIT!
No, I have not read a Maggie Stiefvater. I imagine I shall, someday, due entirely to you… 😉 If I had to read just ONE (or one series?) which of hers should I read? 🙂
ONLY THREE??? THE PAIIIIIN. You so cruel. XD Um… Archer's Goon by Diana Wynne Jones, Illusionarium by Heather Dixon, and Broken Glass by Emma Clifton in Five Glass Slippers. BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL MARVELOUS. You would love them. *coughcough*
Awww, YOU ARE SO NICE. I CANNOT EVEN RIGHT NOW. *sniffles happily* And 300 is kinda crazy right!? I seriously have no life. Just books.😂
I need to finish Skulduggery too! I’ve been putting it off because…PAINNNNNN. Each book gets funnier and more painful than the last. IT HURTS, DEBORAH. WHAT HAVE I STARTED HERE.
Afjdsakld thank you for the vote. <3
SO YOU NEED TO READ THE SCORPIO RACES. *nods emphatically* It's a standalone too, so you're not committing to a whole series if you don't love it. 😀 but pfft, you must love it. NO PRESSURE. *cackles evilly*
Merlin’s beard! 300 BOOKS! That’s a mind blowing amount. I don’t think I’d make it even if I only read comic books. WOW, congratulations! Sucks that a big amount of them were only 3 or 2 stars though.
Gonna check out all of the links now!
HEHE. I HAVE NO LIFE. JUST BOOKS. 😂 (But no regrets, ermagerd, I love books.) And I guess I read so many I was bound to turn up a stack of bleh ones?! But still frustrating.
Happy Christmas/holidays/new year!! 😀
I definitely agree that “Made You Up” was the best 2015 debut. It’s so beautiful and raw and funny and perfect asdfghj! AND it doesn’t abuse Schizophrenia as a plot device!
2015 has been a bad reading year for me because I’ve been so busy and stressed out. I’m pretty sure most of the books I read were manga, which should really count as half credit.
I can’t wait for the new year, ESPECIALLY because The Raven King. The I will cry because I don’t want the series to end.
YESSSSS. That’s so much why I liked it! I think the author is just so incredibly talented. And it was only a debut so IMAGINE WHAT HER BK 2 WILL BE LIKE. *waits impatiently*
Aww, I do understand about the stress. *pats shoulder* I hope next year is better for you though. Magna still counts, right?! I read a few comics. *nods*
I still need to read Winter and Carry On. But I finally discovered Rainbow Rowell this year – she’s great! I also read and LOVED Illuminae, Simon Vs. the Homo-Sapiens Agenda, More Happy Than Not, and Career of Evil (I will read anything JK Rowling writes!!!)
-Lauren
AHhh, we have so many of the same favourites then!! 😂 I want to read More Happy Than not FOR SURE. It’s on my priority list for 2016!!
“Okay, Minion, you were right, and I was… less right! We should stick to what we’re good at: being bad… Minion?” LOVE MEGAMIND
*hangs head* I still haven’t read “Blood Red Road,” or “Demon Road,” but I have read “The Road,” which is 4.5k times sadder than the previous two sound.
Wow – 300 books is a ton! I haven’t read that many books in one year since I was twelve. But I was pleased with myself for reading Winter in a day and a half, despite the fact that I worked both days.
Oh, and congrats on that nomination!! I went over and voted for you 🙂 *Fist bump over the internet*
Thanks for voting for me!! I’M STILL KINDA IN SHOCK AT BEING THERE.😱😱😂 *gives you cake in thanks*
yES YOU GOT MY REFERENCES. *gives you more cake* Because that movie is everything basically. I shall be Megamind when I grow up.
Omg Winter in a day and a half?!? YOU WIN THOUGH. YOU WIN. I took about 2 weeks. 😂 Although I was listening to the audio. But stilllll.
I’ve read three Maggie Stiefvater books: Shiver, The Raven Boys, and The Dream Thieves. I think I have Linger somewhere, too, though I’m not sure why I haven’t bothered to read it. Maybe I’m just leery because I’ve read some so-so reviews of that series overall.
Three books I’d recommend… Well, I guess they’d have to be the ones that got my highest ratings this year. And those would be: All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill, Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo, and Plain Kate by Erin Bow. Yeah… I think those are the ones I enjoyed the most, too (plus, they were written well, so that’s a bonus).
Aw, I am sad. 🙁 But I know you and I don’t usually like the same books? So maybe the Shiver trilogy won’t be for you?! NO SHAME. 😂 And I really want to read All our Yesterdays because you mention it so much and I see it EVERYWHERE and gahhhh i have not read it?! WHAT IS THIS LIFE. 😂😂
All Our Yesterdays was one of those books that smacked me in the face and then flew under the radar. 🙂 I tried to get it from NetGalley when it first appeared, but they wouldn’t let me have it because I’m Canadian (boo!) so I forgot about it for a while. And then I got a free copy of the audiobook, and I thought, “I really should listen to this one, because everyone says it’s so good,” but I never got around to it. So this year I just went for it and bought the paperback and sat there reading it and loving it and wondering why I waited so long. Some books are just like that, you know?
I might read Linger at some point. I mean, it’s just sitting there, looking all lonely on my Kobo app. The problem is, I barely remember anything that happened in Shiver, except for snow and wolves and somebody getting a bad fever. Gah. (This is why I tend not to finish series: I’m terrible at remembering what happened in the previous book!) I read Shiver before the book world was overly saturated with paranormal romances, so I quite enjoyed it at the time. If I recall correctly, I gave it 4 stars. I liked Maggie Stiefvater’s writing, too.
YOU ARE ALREADY THE MOST FAMOUS BLOGGER OF EVERRR!! At least it feels that way to me 😉 PLUS YOU’RE THE ONLY BLOGGER TO GET NOMINATED FOR THE EPIC READS BOOK SHIMMY AWARDS (CONGRATS BY THE WAY!! I voted of course <3) SO THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING. I'm looking forward to a world ruled by you Cait, so you better bring those plans of world domination in motion!
BAHHAAH THANKS MICHELLE. 😂 I wish. I feel like a bit of a child amongst all those youtubers with their follower count in the 6 digits *dies* 😂😂 But did you hear?! Epic Reads is going to have a separate blogger section next year!! YAYYY. So more blogger representation will be fabulous!
I’M WORKING ON IT.
DOMINATION IS COMING. AAAANY MINUTE NOW.
I voted for you, I hope you win! Seriously Cait you read 300 books I read five. I need to aspire to your level of crazy.
EEEeP. Thanks, Skye! 😀 It is an INSANE level of crazy though…I mean, step one, is dragons, but step TWO is ignore everything else in life and JUST READ. Not recommended😂
Well this was indeed a long post but I enjoyed all of it. However now I can’t remember everything I was going to say, sooo LET ME CLING TO THE QUESTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST.
Top recommend book(s): The Ilyon Chronicles series by Jaye L. Knight! Because they are epicness and FEELS and DRAGONS and ahhhhhhh *goes to reread both books out so far*
And Maggie Stiefvater is amazing and I CANNOT WAIT for The Raven King and NOOOOO GANSEY CANNOT DIE and *hyperventilates*
WAIT DID YOU SAY DRAGONS.
I NEED.
NO DOUBTS ABOUT IT.
And hehe, gah, it WAS too long. 😂 But I had so much to say!! I tried out a stack of questions too, hhehe.
I’m like 99% sure Gansey won’t die. I HONESTLY THINK ADAM OR RONAN WILL DIE FOR HIM AND I CAN’T EVEN WITH THAT, OKAY? HALP. I’M DROWNING AND I HAVEN’T EVEN READ IT YET.
I have no idea which book I’d like. My advice is to keep doing what you’re doing. You’re doing very good at this blogging business 😀
Aw, thanks, Stefani. Even though I’m super slow at answering comments right now…I JUST APPRECIATE ALL YOUR SUPPORT THIS YEAR. YOU ARE A SPECTACULAR HUMAN. <3
Well done on reading so many books in one year! 300 is really impressive!!(: If I had to recommend only three books I’ve read this year, they would be The Accident Season, The Night Circus, and Dangerous Girls…but that was tough!(‘: And I so agree about The Game of Love and Death, so much shipping! Did you like it?(:
YESSS I adored The Game of Love and Death! I also loved how Love was the guy and Death the girl. IDEK WHY I JUST EXPECTED IT TO BE VICE VERSA? 😂 But it was so adorable and I was sooooo worried by the end.
Omg I love Dangerous Girls!! I need to read The Night Circus SO SO MUCH.
I did too actually! I loved the relationship between death and love too. I was really worried about Ethan…when you get too attached to side characters(‘:
You do need to read it(; (all I do is try to convince people to read the night circus(‘: )
I WILL!! I PROMISE! Night Circus MUST happen because I see it everywhere and I. need. to. know. 😂
(And I get mega worried for side characters too…they are precious things and authors do so love to hurt them. *heavy sigh*)
Protect side characters at all costs! (I say, planning on killing off a side character in my own story(‘: )
I’ve read at least 15 books because of you this year Cait–6 Maggie Stiefvater and the Room 13 A and Fish Out of Water and so Many others. Also, I’m with you on AIDAN. You love him and you hate him/it amiright? I voted for you in the Shimmy Awards YAY FOR THAT i hope you win! I love Their Fractured Light, (which I finished half an hour ago but still) The Fitzosbournes in Exile (though it’s a second book) and Artemis Fowl. Go you for reading all those books– I’m creepng closer to 200 which is pretty absurd as well 🙂
*commences happy dance* Clearly I have
mind controlbook recommendation skills. I DO LOVE/HATE AIDAN. Like I wanted to strangle him…yet he’s a computer so that was dump. BUT YEAH. I actually quite liked him in the end and I’m glad Kady rescued him. heeh.Zomg, thank you for the vote. <3
CONGRATS ON 200!! SQUEEEEE. You are amazing to read that much AND do school AND blog AND travel and things.
I loved this!!! I’ve been really out of touch with new books, and as you’ve read so many of them sometimes I don’t even try to keep up. But this was really interesting and I found it easy to digest actually. I think some new TBR adds might be in here c:
Seems like you’ve had a really busy year!! And CONGRATS on your goal, as always, I am astounded. I tried to crunch the numbers, and I ended up with 1 book every 1.2 days. YOU READ A NEW BOOK EVERY ONE DAY AND FOUR HOURS?!?! =O I had a huge reading slump this year, so I didn’t even make my goal of 55. I hope at some point I can read the range of genres you did this year, but at the moment university is kicking my butt, so that may take a while. XD
That was such a fun, long post. Keep up the awesomeness, Cait
And yet I STILL feel behind even though I’ve read so so many. 😂 “Keeping up” is a myth, I’m like 99% sure of it now.
BAHAH. YOU CRUNCHED NUMBERS. 😂😂 Oh that is awesome. And yes! Nearly a book a day. *nods* I kind of have this vague dream of 365 books one year? But not next year. Because. WRITING. *nods* I really didn’t write that much this year and that’s a bit sad. (I mean, I have a few drafts, but I didn’t work HARD at anything and I need to! I don’t want to slack off!!)
KEEP UP YOUR AWESOMENESS TOO, ASHANA!!
Aww, sorry to hear writing slipped by the wayside, which is always what happens when you manage to get a lot of reading in. I felt that it was a similar story with me. I am determined to get my novel finished – time is a-tickin’!
JUST DID A FNAGRIL WRITHING SWITHER IN MY CHAIR AT THE SIGHT OF TEH TAVVEN KING
I KNOW THAT SENTENCE WAS FULL OF TYPOS
BUT THAT’S JUST MY EXCITEMENT LEVELS SHOWING THROUGH
“Have you read a Maggie Stiefvater book?” ahhahahahaha.
OK but also
I’m reading A Dance with Dragons and I just– I can’t– DAMN. Who’d have thought we’d see the day I felt sorry for Theon Greyjoy?! My word. Ugh but it’s the silly dual chronology thing going on and the lack of Jaime is breaking my soul </3
Love this survey by the by, will definitely be filling it out! So I've just been bouncing round the TTT link-up and no one. will. stop. about A Darker Shade of Magic. Must read that book! Nmmm but I'm so excited for Demon Road I can'T EVEN TELL YOU. IT'S SO SHINY SITTING THERE ON MY SHELF. SOON, CHILD, SOON! Also v excited to get onto some AG Howard. Oh and hahahaha good luck with getting to the end of Skulduggery with your feels intact ahahahaha.
Great post and may 2016 be just as awesome! You have achieved so much amazing stuff this year; don't stress about what you've still to achieve, but continue on the curve of overlordish glory which you currently inhabit!
THE RAVEN KING HAS THAT AFFECT ON ME TOO. TYPOS ARE ACCEPTABLE COMPLTEYELRYELEYLY. *NODS* And I’m glad you’ve made good life decisions and read Stiefvater books. You and I are incredibly wise human beans. TRUTH.
AGH I KNOW, RIGHT?! I mean, I don’t forgive Theon. But I do feel sorry for him. D: But the lack of Jaime WAS sad. Especially since it’s like “and then Jaime disappeared into the woods with Brienne, but bah, who really cares about that…when Brienne is probs gonna betray him and he’s gonna get murdered by outlaws but READERS DON’T REALLY MIND WAITING A DECADE TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.” <– Accurate representation of George RR Martin's thought process.
*DIIIIES*
Pfft, I've given up on hoping my feels will stay intact for ANY SERIES BY THIS POINT. 😂
This was definitely my favorite blog find of the year!!!!!!! <3
AFJDKSALD SERIOUSLY!??! OKAY DAY = MADE.
I have never read a book by Maggie Stiefvater *facepalm* but if I could only recommend three books (Im hoping you haven’t read these, which is probably not going to work) Lux by: Jennifer L. Armentrout (she is my favourite author EVER, lets make a deal, you read a book by Jennifer L. Armentrout I will read one by Maggie Stiefvater! *sticks out hand* agree? disagree?)
Book 2 will have to be Cloaked by: Alex Flinn, which I am pretty sure I read this year… but that might be a lie…. I found this book really amusing, plus its a standalone, and those are good when your living under a pile of series, which can be overwhelming….
Lastly I’m gonna say Shatter Me by: Tahereh Mafi (I feel as though you have probably read this since it is so popular, but I really can’t think of anything else, you did read 300 books this year!! Congrats btw!!)
Sooo did you read those books before? Or did I beat the challenge of trying to come up with ones you haven’t???
MAYYYYYA. WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WITH YOUR LIFE THEN. OMG. 😂 Just kidding. 😉 But seriously now…
Oh oh I want to read a Jennifer L Armentrout book someday!! LET’S MAKE THIS DEAL. *nods* AGREED. I actually have an audio of her ballerina-ish thriller one which title I totally forget. But it has the music box ballerina on the front? ANYWAY. I was thinking of starting there…is that a good one?! Or should I go with Lux first?
I HAVE READ SHATTER ME! AND LOVE IT. 😀 I haven’t read Cloaked, but I did read Beastly by Alex Flinn and didn’t love it. Sadness for me. D:
Have I read any Maggie Stiefvater books? XD
I’m happy that you mentioned The Seven Realms, Simon vs., and Harry Potter! Also happy that you have ADSOM on your list for next year. You absolutely need to put This Savage Song on your list, too. 😀
Let’s see…I would recommend the Miriam Black series (although I’m still unsure what you would think of the books), finishing Chaos Walking, and…Insignia. That was a really fun sci-fi I just read this month.
I really think you should make perfecting the fine art of DNF’ing your goal for next year! Maybe that will cut down on the low star ratings. 😉 ALSO, we can work together next year to stop ourselves from being completely ridiculous and trying out compete with ourselves. We might take some reminding.
So basically I’m ready for your next log of excellent book recommendations to devour in 2016, Maraia. 😉 You’re to blame for so many of my favourites!!! Blackbirds is officially on my to-buy list (since my library doesn’t have it) and the premise is AWESOME so I’m pretty sure I’m going to like this. 😉 *whispers* I requested an ARC of This Savage Song so…fingers crossed. XD
Ahh, that isn’t a bad idea. 😂 I just…I feel so guilty?! And especially when it’s an ARC. Like they sent me the book, can I reeeally DNF it? Gah. (I mean, of course I can. But. Still.)
We can challenge ourselves to stop challenging ourselves?!? THAT SHOULD DO IT.
Okay, I will start thinking! YAYYY, that is such a compliment! I’m super nervous about Blackbirds, though. (Actually, wait for my DM before you order anything.) It’s such a…crude book.
This Savage Song is going to be AMAAAAAAZING, I hope you get approved!
No need to feel guilty! You should feel guilty about all the books you’re NOT reading while forcing yourself to finish some awful book. 😉 And yes, you can absolutely DNF ARCs. Other bloggers do all the time. I think it just takes practice. AND A CHALLENGE. So I’m challenging you.
YESSSSS, SUCCESS!
Mwahahah, all this pressure now to see if I like it. hehhh. JUST KIDDING. I’m actually strangely excited!
*fingers crossed for the TSS approval*
I’ll consider accepting this challenge. 😉 I mean, it WOULDN’T KILL ME. And I will have more time to read more books. (Because, you know, I never read enough.) *nods* So we shall see….
I have no idea when I meet people either, so unless I met a blogger like, yesterday, I will have no idea what year it was! I don’t remember when we “met”, but thanks all the same 😀 I get pretty giddy-happy when I see my name with all the lovelies on your loveliest blog. (Lovely is my word of the day, okay? I actually used it in a review I wrote- several times. I need to calm down.)
Gah, read Raging Star. For me! And you know, you. But 300 books!? THREE HUNDRED!? And the year isn’t even over! We have 10 more days, you could be at 450 by then 😉
I am anticipating all the same 2016 books. I could comment on so many things, we had so many mutual favorites. So I will just say that you have wonderful taste in books, and leave it at that ;D Also, HUGE congrats on the Epic Reads thing- it is seriously such an honor, and I will make everyone I know vote for you. Even my grandma.
Omg GOOD I’m not alone then. I feel like I should write down the dates of every new blog I visit, just in case I become BFFs with the blogger in later years. 😂 But that’s kinda creepy maybe? SO YEAH I’LL RESIST AND JUST SUCK AT REMEMBERING THINGS. Your blog is hilariously wonderful!! One of the few I follow by email so I NEVER MISS A POST, OKaY!?? 😀
Omg. Noooo. 😂😂 I’m actually not reading aNYTHING until the new year!! I need a break. heheh. And I mean, I read 300 books but I still feel behind?!? It is a never ending battle.
And see THAT Is why I love your blog! Because your recommendations are A+. That is all. *nods*
AND I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT ABOUT EPIC READS AFJDKALFSD. I feel like I’m the little kiddie amongst pros though. 😂
I’d like to get Heartless as an ebook. I love your site, dont change a thing. I voted for you btw
AW THANK YOU, KAITLIN. 😂 You are so so nice!!
Hi Cait. Congratulations about the nomination. just voted for you. Your blog is amazing and you definitely deserve to win. The best books I read in 2015 would be All the Light we cannot see by Anthony Doerr, Americananh by Chimamanda and His Dark materials by Pullman (which was a re-read). Hope you win!
I have All the Light We Cannot See on reserve at the library! SO EXCITED!! 😀 (Although there are…um….about 30 people in line before me. So it miiiight take a while.) Thank you for your vote. <3
Cait, I got The Scorpio Races ebook for a $1.99 yesterday! Now I have something to read while I wait for The Raven King to come out so I can binge read the last three books. DUMPLIN’! And yes, you need to get to ADSOM. It was my top Adult book this year until I was going through my books to start my End of Year Survey and stumbled across a book I read earlier this year that I had forgotten about. I also agree it was a dry year for super-wonderful-chorus-of-angels-singing stories. You had a magnificent blogging year! Here’s to next year! 🙂
OMG YAYYYY. THIS IS SUCH FABULOUS NEWS. That’s totally the best Stiefvater book to start with too, imo. I’m basically reading ADSOM on the 1st of January. FOR SURE. 😂
Cait, you fabulous human being! CONGRATULATIONS ON ALL THIS EXCITING NEWS AND I AM TOTALLY GOING TO VOTE FOR YOU!
I really want to do this post too, in fact I might well do it sometime this week! Maybe even today!
I’m sorry, and please don’t kill me, but I haven’t read anything by Maggie Stievater yet! I kept hearing about her books all year this year but never picked her stuff up! But I vow 2016 will be the year I read ALL THE MAGGIE STIEVATER BOOKS. Please keep me accountable
THANK YOU, JOSEPHINE. <3 YOU ARE SO NICE AND YOUR COMMENTS ALWAYS MAKE ME HAPPY. Although, come now, unhappy about the no-Stiefvater-in-your-life status there. That needs to change. DEFINITEly START IN 2016!! The Scorpio Races is an excellent place to start too, btw!! 😀
CAIT!!!! >.< READ CARRY ON AND A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC ALREADY!!! Okay, okay…I'm cool. And I CANNOT believe you read 300 books. I can barely find time for a few a month. But I actually have no idea how many I have read, since I don't keep track…. Anyway, here's hoping 2016 will be even better! I bet you COULD get to 600 if you tried hard enough… XD
They’re both totally my TOP priorities for 2016! I PROMISE!! And bahah, I mean, I read 300 books, and I STILL feel behind. 😂 How is that even possible, right??! 😛
(I probably COULD get to 600 but I absolutely don’t want to. I need time to write! AND EAT CAKE.)
I absolutely adore Maggie Stiefvater’s books. I cannot wait for The Raven King, Adam is my absolute fav. I’ll probably bawl if anything untowards happens to him ;_; I still have to read The Scorpio Races.
Three books I would recommend? The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, Air Awakens by Elise Kova and The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima. All are superb.
I hope you have a wonderful 2016, Cait!
I’m pretty sure The Raven King is going to be BAD NEWS. And yet I want it anyway. What is wrong wit me. WAHHHHHHHH. *collapses weeping*
Omg, I LOVE The Demon King too! One of my favourite discoveries of this year. And I’ve heard so much about Air Awakens I very must want to read that too. 😉
I just found you yesterday from the Shimmy Awards, so I on’t know you or your blog well at all. I think you have great taste in books, though, and your pineapples are making me laugh. So yay! Thanks for the giveaway!
Omg, hello, Jana!! *waves wildly* I’m really happy you found my blog! OH GLORIOUS DAY.
Oh my god you and I have very different book reactions but it’s all good cuz if we liked the same things then the world would get so boring <3
That is so so true! I LOVE THIS COMMENT!!
I’d hypothetically like to win an ebook of “Fairest” by: Marissa Meyer!
GOOD LUCK, EMMAH!! (Excellent decision too, btw.)
My goodness Cait!! How does one even manage to read 300 books??¿¿¿????¿¿? I read a little under 100. (2915 wasn’t a good book year for me)
I love those pie graphs. I have a strange addiction to stats and graphs and listy things….how did you make them?
YES YES YESSS! THOMAS AND NEWT AND CINDER AMD THORNE WHERE THE BEST! Thorne made me snortle the most….*restrained fangirling* Also. I’m mildly annoyed that autocorrect keeps changing “Thorne” to “Thorns” obviously autocorrect hasn’t read The Luanr Chronicles. Well. I’ve gotten ALL my friends to read the series so I’ll probs be able to get autocorrect to read them to…right?
(I’m sorry. That was weird. Its late and I’m sleepy BUT IF I DONT COMMENT NOW I NEVER WILL)
My goodness! Not 2915!! 😉 *2015
You were just dashing forward to the future there, Izel. 😂
I JUST LIKE BOOKS A LOT, I GUESS?!?! Books are life?!? Everything else is secondary?! hehe. And I have an addiction to graphs and charts too *nods* You should see my spreadsheet….it’s pretty intense. hehhhh. AHEM.
THORNE IS JUST EVERYTHING. I love his sass. <3
THE ACCIDENT SEASON WAS WONDERFUL. I finished it about a week ago, and it was SO GOOD. This writing was gorgeous, and I loved everything about it. I can’t wait to read Bone Gap now, it’s a little magical realism too from what I heard, and YOU put it in your favorites too, so hm, WHAT more reason do I need to read it now ??!
I can’t wait to read The Next Together, either, it’s definitely going on my TBR for the year coming.
And congratulations for the Shimmy Awards, it’s definitely well deserved, and I’m going to VOTE for you everyday, every second! 😀
AFJDKSALFD I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT TOO!!! *PARTIES WILDLY* It’s basically so so beautiful and kind of reminded me of Maggie Stiefvater’s writing? But different? SO JUST EXCELLENT. And basically the Bone Gap is REALLY similar to the Accident Season! GO READ IT YUS.
300 books is insane 😀 I’m in awe. Haha, I love that text under the Goodreads challenge.
A lot of 3 and 4 stars, that’s not too bad. I can’t wait to see my final stats.
FANTASY, you have your priorities straight indeed. Although you could use some more retellings, perhaps? *whistles*
*Nods at Winter* I also liked Princess of Thorns and I can’t wait to finally get started in The demon king.
Queen of Shadows: I have to agree with that. It just doesn’t feel like Celaena anymore.. It’s a good thing Manon is there.
You’ve earned the title ‘Best Maggie Stiefvater pusher’ for sure.
Walk on earth a stranger has such a beautiful cover (and inside)
I can not wait to meet this A.I.D.E.N.
I love Cinder and Thorne + I’m a big fan of the Cinder/Iko friendship.
GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS. YES.
I really approve of your plan to read A darker shade of magic. I think it is right up your alley and I have so much love for that book.
Goodreads is getting sassy these days. 😉 I LOVE TOO. 😂
I think I ended up reading 18 or 19 retellings? But a lot of those were Percy Jackson so I wasn’t QUITE sure if they should count. I mean, they are mythology retellings but not really fairy tale, right?! I kind of failed at your challenge!! I always forgot to make posts and things about it *hangs head in shame*
I just am so so devastated that SJM just totally dumped Dorian/Chaol out of the plot line. It’s like yes Celaena is a great character, but she isn’t the ONLY character we fell in love with in the first books. And the way she treats Dorian/Choal just makes me kinda hate her now. *sigh* Which SUCKS because I loved that series so so much two years ago. D:
ADSOM is basically TOP of my reading priority list for January!!
(Every retelling counts for the challenge, not only fiarytales, so that’s why next year I’m going to place a bigger focus on other retellings too. So if you are willing to give it another shot 😉 And there is no such thing as failing :D)
300 BOOKS?!!! Eep, congrats on that feat!
I’m so happy to see Winter in your favourites!! I loved it so much! I haven’t read any of the other books on your best books list but I promise to read Bone Gap and The Accident Season soon. I keep seeing you rave about them but still haven’t gotten around to reading them yet, even though I already own The Accident Season… That will be rectified! And I also promise to finally read The Raven Cycle. In fact, I think I’m going to start The Raven Boys now. OKAYBYEEEE I have some Stiefvater to read!
I COMPLETELY LOVE THIS COMMENT. THAT IS ALL. yesss, I hope you like the Raven Boys! It is a bit slow?! But the writing is gorgeous. *nods* And also DON’T FORGET THE SCORPIO RACES!! *Flails wildly* That is still one of my favourite Stiefvater books (says the girl who gives them all 5-stars…hehe.)
Wow so many books! I’m such a slow reader. I’ve read a little less than thirty.. ^ ^= But I’m hoping to finish more by the end of the year so hopefully I’ll have thirty. XD I haven’t read any Maggie Stiefvater, but you make me want to read some since you talk about her so much. XD It sounds like you had a great year! Congrats with the award nomination!
storitorigrace.blogspot.com
yES YOU NEED MAGGIE STIEFVATER IN YORU LIFE, VICTORIA. SERIOUSLY. YOU DO. There is a Stiefvater shaped hole in your reading existence. *nods sagely*
This survey took me forever to create but I really liked the process. You and I share many favorite books. Rainbow Rowell. Maggie Stiefvater. Challenger Deep. Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda.
I love your Instagram photos. They are amazing.
I hope to win the e-book because I want to get THE YEARLING on e-books. It is too hard to read in the tiny print on the copy I have from the library. Ha!
Here is my End of the Year Survey
SAME! I love making up posts like these but I seriously spent…omg, several hours?! A few days?! 😂 It’s worth it though.
Wow, I´m really impressed you read 300 books this year! And a bit envious… XD
I didn´t mind the length of the post at all because I love charts (and yours are awesome!) and books (obviously). Plus, I always enjoy reading your posts/reviews. 🙂
I just finished Ink and Bone and I agree that everbody should read it! (Although it kind of broke my heart.)
Sadly, I haven´t read a book by Maggie Stiefvater yet. *hides face in shame* I don´t know if you already said this somewhere but if you had to choose which one of her books/series do you like most?
To chose only three books is very hard but if Í could only recommend three of the many awesome books I read (and reread) this year it would be: Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson, What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler and Nimona by Noelle Stevenson.
EEEEP, THANK YOU, MATIE!! <3 And I'm glad it wasn't a horror to get through. 😂 I try to keep posts like, um, half this length!? But so. many. books. to talk about. This is what happens when I read 300 of them. hehe. AW BUT THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPER KIND WORDS. It means so much!!
Ink and Bone is INCREDIBLE. I loved the world building!! I need that sequel...*wishes for time to go faster*
I recommend starting with Tee Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater! It's a standalone and it's GORGEOUS and just ajfdklsa try it. 😉
OMG I NEED TO READ NIMONA!!
Guuurl! You are an epic reader! 300 books?! What radiation did you have to endure for that super power?! *high five* You totally rocked 2015!
I’m loving your pie charts too! Looks like you had some great reads this year! Shame that you didn’t enjoy “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, but I totally understand your perspective. I’m just getting into Sarah J. Maas and will be starting the “Throne of Glass” series in 2016. Hopefully I’ll be able to get through them all in the year (if they’re good. PLEASE LET THEM BE GOOD!).
You had a great 2015! Hope your 2016 is just as wonderful! Can’t wait to see if you break your 300 book goal next year! Wooooo!
yES. I HAVE A (SMALL) LOVE OF BOOKS. IT’S HARD TO TELL, I KNOW.
I hope you have fun with SJM’s series!😂 I’m one of the minority who’s just…gah, not happy with the direction? I’m at the point where I probably won’t even read any more of her books, but I DID used to love the first 3 so so much!! SO YEAH. Enjoy the sass. 😉
Hope your 2016 is amazing too, Auggie!!
Wow, so many beautiful books read this year! I have big(ish) plans for next year especially since this year has been lacking in terms of blogging stuff (damn, getting used to New Things in Life takes a reaaallllyyyy long time). Going to be reading lots more next year as well (hopefully). THE WHOLE CHRISTMAS THEME THING LOOKS GORGEOUS. ALL THAT MISTLETOE GOSH. Sending mixed messages Cait 😛
Ah, I understand though. Your love for cake (and ruling the world I guess) will reign forever. ALSO EPIC READS. HOLY GUACAMOLE CAIT. *drops pineapple fronds**fist bump*
Omg, I TOTALLY understand. *nods sagely* And I feel like I’ve barely visited your blog this year too! MY BAD. I shall fix that as soon as I finish this comment for sure.
WAIT. WHAT MISTLETOE!?!? The little graphic by every question?! I call that holly. 😂😂
AWWW 😀 I have like the biggest grin on my face because you mentioned my blog. Thank you.
You know I thought I a fast reader, but you’ve read 100 more books than me this year. Hey, maybe some year I’ll challenge you to a contest of most books read. 😉
I SO SO SO SOOOO APPRECIATE ALL THE CHATTING, ABI!! And the comments and the twitter chatting and just afjdklsad it’s absolutely wonderful to be friends with you. <3 *gives you cake*
I think I am a fast reader but....also all I do is read. 😂 So there's that.
ME TOO! It’s been so fabulous. Thanks again for hosting that rewriteathon, it really helped me! 😀
*takes and gobbles cake* *gives you some homemade cake*
Lol.
OMG YOU ALREADY FINISHED, DIDN’T YOU?! *collapses in the corner with measley 10K* But I mean, even if I only do 2K a day, it’s still something. So it’s helping me too. 😛 Sort of…
*eats the cake anyway*
I finished fixing a character and taking out a bunch of stuff. Have I finished editing everything that needs to be edited? Nooooo. 😛 But I am going at it again this weekend.
10 is never measly. It’s wonderful! You’re doing a great job.
WHAT A DELECTABLY LONG POST! And gah, I love reading all these end of year summaries. I’ll definitely do one next year, when my blog is no longer a baby (feels hardly worth it when it’s only 3 months old!). I’m going to start reading The Lunar Chronicles tomorrow and have The Raven Boys on my bookshelf and I AM EXCITED. I also need to read The Demon King. Awesome post, Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Cait! Your blog is one of my all time favourites! <3
I’m glad you liked it, Annissa. I think it was probably my longest post of…ever?!?! 😂 AW YOU ARE 3 MONTHS OLD?! SQUEE. Congrats on your blog’s babyhood. :’) *whispers* Also, btw, your blog is gorgeous!
AND THANK YOU FOR THE NICE WORDS. <3
I love posts like this. I feel like I’m all caught up with your reading, even though there were so many posts I missed! I might have to do something similar on my blog this year…
I finally finished the Raging Star series when I found Dustlands for two dollars at Chapters a few months ago. It was certainly an interesting ending. I’ll be anxious to see what you think of it!
I’m also not sure about Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I love all her other books, but I don’t know if I’d care for the fanfiction-y spin-off, but I AM curious. SO HURRY UP AND READ IT AND REVIEW IT!!! Tehe, just kidding…but seriously 😛
Yayyy I’m glad you liked it! I confess, I’m actually nervous to post things like this because IT’S SO LONG. XD But I figure people can just skim and choose what they’re interested to read about, right?!? I love recaps too much. 😀
I so so am excited for Raging Star!! But I’ve kind of put reading on hold for now while I write a bit, so I probably won’t get to it until 2016 BUT STILL SO EXCITED. 😀
I’m uber curious about Carry On for all those reasons. XD I mean…I don’t like HP rip-offs? But I loved Fangirl and I love diversity. So we shall see. 😀
I’m pretty knew to your blog…and by thatI mean I’ve stalked it for beautiful people and then one day decided to check out an interesting post and BAM! A new follower was born. I like your bookish blog ^ ^ It makes me happy. I look forward to reading more next year 😀 Thanks for being inspiring!
SQUEEEE. That just makes me ridiculously happy. *tackle hugs you with a mountain of cake* Thank YOU for saying such nice things!!
Great post Cait! I really need to read some of these books. I’m probably going to have a goal on reading a number of books. I have also nominated you for the “Infinity Dreams Blog Award” over on my blog! 🙂
– Maddie
AWw, thanks, Maddie! I shall check that out straight away! 😀
“Plus I get to make lists and give stats and basically — I am in heaven right now.” DUDE I WAS GONNA SAY…this is going to be awesome. And totally don’t apologize for long posts because YOU WRITE THEM YO. #wortheveryword GAAAAAH CONGRATS ON THE BOOKNERD OF THE YEAR AWARD! Like…that is so cool! And you read 300 books. Like…I’m still so floored by that I can’t even comment on it. NEXT THING.
AHAHAHAHAAA SO WHEN I clicked on that “year in books” link, it took me to a default (kinda?) page thing that showed me my year in books and it’s like: YOU READ 1 BOOK. And I’m just like…*hides in my proverbial bookish shame from Cake the Magnificent who READ 300 FREAKING BOOKS* I can’t even. WHAT OH HUH I SAID I WASN’T GONNA FREAK OUT. my bad.
OH AND DUDE YOU SHOULD RUN A BOOKSTORE. I would fly to Australia just to attend. (Yep attend my brain is not working TO LIKE BUY BOOKS THERE. And loiter and talk and fangirl FOREVER.) “I always eat things that are pretty. Why do you think I like cake? Hmm?” < You are awesome. (HEY I DON'T THINK I SAID IT AT ALL IN THIS COMMENT SO FAR. so yep.) I'M PRETTY SURE THE SPOCK GIF JUST MADE MY DAY. “But actual tears? Please. This Vulcan is mildly offended.” And you are awesome again. FOREVER. the end.
okay so i like need to go read all your favorite children/posts. right now.
THIS WAS DELICIOUS.
love,
abbiee
LISTS AND STATS ARE EVERYTHING. I don’t even know why?!! But making pie charts makes me happy. :’) Eeeep. Basically I read. I JUST READ. I read two books with both eyeballs simultaneously and I just read and read. *nods* I know someone who read 400 though. 😂 SO YEAH. I have work to do. *cracks knuckles*
(Just kidding. xD Actually next year I want to focus more on writing?! So who knows if I’ll read this much again. I’m tentatively going to aim for 200 instead. *nods*)
AW. Gah. That book of the year link mustn’t work like I thought it did….
yES BOOKSTORE = #lifegoals I shall also have really TALL bookshelves so customers get to climb cool sliding ladders to reach them. :’) It’ll be like a bookstore playground. IT’LL BE GRAND. Ahem.
YOU ARE AWESOME. <3
HOLY COW. 300 books? YOU ARE ACTUALLY MEGAMIND, CAIT. You are the Megamind of the book world. (I totally mean this as a compliment.) You’re amazing. May I read half as much as you this upcoming year. *bows*
Also, I’m sorry to hear about the anxiety (something I’ve also been dealing with this year). It’s such a bear, isn’t it? I hope you get some respite from it soon. ♥ *hugs*
I DO take that as a compliment. xD 😂 THANKS SKY. <3
Awk, yes it is a bear. It's very...draining?! I'm glad you understand and here's to a better 2016 for you too!!
Because I feel like I’ve already told you twelve times that I’m so glad your love for our dear Maggie Stiefvater made me finally pick up her books (I’m currently about 25% through Blue Lily, Lily Blue!!!), I will instead tell you that I am also really glad you made me pick up The Unlikely Hero. It didn’t quite make my favorites list, but I definitely want more people to read it and love it!!
Also, READ CARRY ON. It’s amazing, and I genuinely think you will love it (humor + fantasy + HP parody-esk + DRAGONS)!
AHHH I’M SO GLADDDDD. :’) This is like the best news of ever!! And BLLB is like my favourite in the Raven Cycle. But eeesh, I don’t know which is my favourite overall of her books. I should ponder that one.
Ahem.
ALSO CARRY ON IS LIKE TOP OF MY TBR FOR 2016. *nods* Nothing can go wrong with a book about dragons.
Waaa this is an awesome idea, I want to do this as well!
So much yes to Bone Gap and The Accident Season because they deserve so much more love than the blogosphere is giving them. That’s OK though, I will love them both enough for everyone *clutches to chest*
And yessss you need to read A Darker Shade of Magic promptly, it was one of my favourites in 2015!!
DO IT, AENTEE. STATS ARE SO FUUUUUN. AH, the Bone Gap was everything. And same with The Accident Season!! They both sort of remind me of Maggie Stiefvater? But are still wildly different?! SO YEAH. LOVE AND ADORE.
I have STILL not read a Rick Riordan book! What is wrong with me?!? I absolutely love Maggie Stiefvater. But I will say that I tried to read The Raven Boys and I just couldn’t do it. I had to DNF it. I’m sorry!! And I voted for you in the Shimmy awards. It was a no brainer because I LOVE your blog!
That’s basically how I felt at the beginning of this year. 😂 BUT I FIXED IT AND NEARLY READ THEM ALL. (I bombed out on the Kane Chronicles because I thought the first one was boring. Oops!XD)
Ah, I do understand. The Raven Boys is very slow to start. *nods* But, I mean, it’s 5-stars for me so I basically have nothing bad to say about it. 😂 BUT STILL. AT LEAST YOU TRIED, RIGHT?! 😛
Aww. <3 Thank you!!
Oh, this is perfection! I’ve been working on graphs of our end-of-the-year stats for the past few days, but I didn’t know how to structure the post. (The organizational skills. They only work when I’m plotting. Novels or muuuuuurder.) But the system exists! Let’s employ the system! There’ll be nobody messing with the system!
In case I haven’t shouted it loud enough in the past couple of years, MAGGIE STIEFVATER IS MAH FAAAAAAAVORITE HUMAN AUTHOR PERSON EVER. So yes. Yes, I have read a Stiefvater book or seven.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN JUST THREE, WHAT TORTURE IS THIS?! I’d probably recommend Vicious (muuuuurder, anti-heroes), Six of Crows (muuuuurder, anti-heroes) and The Name of the Wind (muuuuuurder, anti-heroes). And I’ll Give You The Sun (cuteness and art; little to no murder; but, hey, ANTI-HEROES! Kinda-sorta.).
P.S. Though I’ve always said muuuuuurder as muuuuuuurder, until recently I was able to write it as just… murder. That is now no longer possible. I suspect it has something to do with you, Cait.
YOU ARE WELCOME. Well, I mean, Jamie from Perpetual Page Turner is the genius here but still. I shall take the praise and glory quite easily because that’s who I am, Bob. *nods sagely*
I HAVE READ 10 STIEFVATER BOOKS. AND A HALF. Because of the MG one she co-wrote. *nods*
I haven’t read Name of the Wind, but I’ve read ALL your other favourites. So basically Name of the Wind is going on my 2016 to read pile. YOU ARE THE REASON FOR THIS.
I’m so glad I’m able to infiltrate your life like this. Particularly with muuuuuurder. :’)
I’ve read one book from Stiefvater, Shiver. Was not so impressed, but I’m thinking of trying out her other books because YOU and Mishma (Chaesing Faerytales) have been tweeting a lot about it, and I got curious so there’s that. And hurray for reading 300 BOOKS THIS YEAR. WOW. Unfortunately I haven’t read much this year, which is depressing enough. AND I HAVEN’T REACH MY GR READING GOAL SO EXTRA DEPRESSING. But thanks to you I finally have lots and LOTS of book recs. I will definitely check them out soon! Thanks! 😀
I definitely recommend well ALL HER BOOKS…but particularly The Scorpio Races! 😀 I mean, I loved Shiver…but I do understand that it’s not for everyone. 😉 And The Raven Boys is ajfdklsad my everything, but it is very slow. TSR is faster moving!
AW DO NOT BE DEPRESSED. *gives you cake* There’s always next year right?! 😀
300 books. Stahp, Cait. I mean, I read 165, and that’s a huge number for me. But 300. O_O
Fantasy was the genre I read the most from, too! Followed by contemporary — but then I had sci-fi, then dystopia, and then historical fiction. I didn’t really count retellings or thrillers or middle grade, and lumped paranormal into the fantasy category.
I also was disappointed by An Ember in the Ashes. Way too much hype surrounded it, and it also felt very unoriginal. Plus, I hated how prominent the world’s violence and rape culture was. Just, no.
At the rate I’m going, I read a Maggie Stiefvater book every year. This year it was The Raven Boys. Last year it was The Scorpio Races. The year before that (I think) it was Shiver. Basically, Maggie is a queen and I can’t wait to binge read the rest of the Raven Cycle next year, now that The Raven King is coming out in a few months!
Blue and Simon FOREVER GAH. <3
Cinder and Thorne's friendship was the bomb, they played off each other so well.
Oooh, you MUST read A Darker Shade of Magic, it was one of my favorites I read this year.
I VOTED FOR YOU, CAIT! I VOTED FOR YOU IN THE BOOK SHIMMY AWARDS! Congrats on being nominated, that's amazing! (I hope you win!)
Looks like you had an excellent reading year, Cait! Cheers to more fabulous book adventures in 2016!!!
ZOMG YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS ARE SPECTACULAR TOO, MALLORY!! *sprinkles cake crumbs in your hair* Congrats on 165!!! I…I have no life but books.😂
I’m glad I’m not alone in my Ember in the Ashes sadness…I just couldn’t understand how everyone was praising the world building and I was like “What world building?” GAH I’VE BEEN SPOILED BY ADULT FANTASY I THINK. And the rape culture didn’t even advance the story line. *sigh*
EEEEEP. I approve of your Maggie Stiefvater reading goals. :’)
ADSOM is basically TOP of my 2016 to do list *nods sagely*
aFDSLADJ THANK YOU FOR THE VOTE. I’m still so flabbergasted I was even nominated by so many people to be even IN the semi-finals *collapses in shock*
Congrats on such a great year! I have had so much fun reading your blog the past few months and I can’t wait for the years to come! Yay for the Shimmy Awards too. I really hope you win.
EEEP. AUBREY YOU ARE SO NICE. I’M JUST GONNA GIVE YOU CAKE NOW.
THANK YOU! *accepts cake grinning ear to ear*
That was long enough that there is no possible way I can remember everything I want to comment on! Here’s what I’ve got:
Congrats on the Goodreads challenge! I haven’t been keeping up with mine lately so I was about 20 behind about five minutes ago, but I went back in and updated a bunch and now I am easily ahead! I have not read Winter, Challenger Deep, Maggie Stief-I-cant-spell-it, and the Accident Season! Are they worth it? Carry On was incredible!
I KNOW.😂 I THINK THIS IS THE LONGEST POST I EVER WROTE. hehe. But aww, thank you for commenting anyway!
Zoooomg, here I am squalling about Maggie Stiefvater SO HECK YES IT’S WORTH IT. 😂😂 I recommend reading all her books. Immediately. *nods*
Haha! I bet it is! Well. I’m not about to read that whole thing and let my presence go unnoticed, now am I? Of course I commented!
That made me laugh so hard. XD I can totally picture it! I will do that ASAP!
Okay, so first–CONGRATULATIONS on making it into the Book Shimmy Awards! I was so pleased for you when I went to vote and discovered your name in the running and OBVIOUSLY I voted for you because you are fabulous. 🙂
Second–I’m not totally sure how you pulled the relatively few books mentioned in this post out of the 300 you read this year, but wow, pretty impressive! I loved some of the same ones you did–Made You Up was amazing, and although I have mixed feelings about certain parts of Fans of the Impossible Life I still couldn’t put it down and really loved the characters. Bone Gap, too, was marvelous and magical and one of my favorites from this year, I think! And of course, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is just incredibly wonderful, isn’t it?! I was grinning so hard by the last page, I can’t even.
Additionally, I’m starting Dumplin’ today, and at the recommendation of your Goodreads review I have a library copy of The Unlikely Hero of Room 13B on my bookshelf waiting to be read soon, too. So glad to know you liked (loved?) them both!
I’m sorry to hear, however, that you struggled with your anxiety this year–I dealt with some of that, myself–and of course finding time to fit everything you want to in your day can be tough. (It’s much of the reason I disappeared offline for half the year.) But I hope that 2016 finds you well, and treats you well, too. May the new year be filled with amazing books and fun writing and enjoyable blogging for you! And also: Merry Christmas! <3
AWW THANK YOU, TAYLOR. <3 I'm still absolutely GOB SMACKED I'm in there!! Like a lot of people must've nominated me?! But stilllllll. Those youtubers have like 100s of thousands of followers. And I'm no where near there SO YEAH JUST WOW.😱 People are so nice to me. 😊😊
I'm the same about Fans of the Impossible Life! Like it NEARLY got 5-stars from me?? But just not quite. Simons was SO DARN ADORABLE. I was squeaking at the end because it was so so good. :’)
yES DUMPLIN AND THE UNLIKELY HERO ARE BOTH FANTASTIC. Probably I liked The Unlikely Hero more? Dumplin had a few issues but it was really feministic, which was refreshing. :’)
Agh, I hope you’re doing okay with your anxiety too then? It is tough. D: Are you back to blogging now or just … see what happens?! 🙂 It IS tough to find time for everything though!! AHHH.
AAAAAH I’m still waiting for my copy of Ink and Bone to arrive in the maaaaail!!!!
Also I have a question; do you keep an excel sheet of all your books or what? Because you pie charts (piiiiiiie) are awesome!
As for three books… uhm…
1) The Mall Rats series by Lily Herne (first book is called Deadlands)
2) Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen
3) The Milk of Birds by Sylvia Whitman
yES I DO HAVE MANY EXCEL SHEETS. I don’t actually know how to export them or anything?! So I spend a lot of time counting. *nods* But yes, I have a colour coded one. 😀
Looks like you had an awesome year in reading and blogging, Cait! Congrats on your etsy shop! Hope you had a lovely Christmas, wishing you all the best in 2016 🙂
Thanks, Lianne! 😀 A lot of exciting things happened, that is for sure. Aww, and thank you about my etsy! I hope it continues going strong next year. 😀
Cait, I just cannot with you right now. Do you know how many books you just added to my to read list? Not to mention my amazon cart? DO YOU.???
I HAVE read Shiver when I was an innocent teenager and I remember liking it okay, but never feeling compelled to finish the series, so, um… sorry? You will be happy to hear that How to Lead a Life of Crime, recommended by you of course, was definitely a reading
highlight this year.
Hmmm three books this year…. HOW ABOUT A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC GO AND FINALLY READ IT CAIT JEEZ. Also Fangirl, but I know you’ve read that. You know, trying to think of books to rec you that you haven’t read yet really isn’t that easy haha. I just read Holding Out for a Hero and quite liked it. Hang on, I think you haven’t read The Darkest Minds yet? So, you know… do that. And maybe Gameboard of the Gods, if you haven’t? The first book of the series is a liiiiittle dense, but I really enjoyed the second one!
Pfft, Vlora, you love me. YOU KNOW YOU DO. Don’t doubt this. You and your Amazon cart ADORE me.
I read Shiver when I was an innocent teenager too *nods* And didn’t understand about cliches. But hey, I reread it this year AND STILL LOVED IT TO PIECES. SO THERE’S THAT. 😂 Such a relief.
I WILL READ ADSOM I PROMISE. Soon. First thing in January. I don’t like to read books after my recap because I feel like they get ignored because they don’t FIT anywhere. Is that weird? Pfft, totally not. I am never weird. I haven’t read ANY OF THOSE. So I should. *nods* Particularly Darkest Minds!!
This was an amazing recap post Cait! I’m so excited for you to get to know Simon and Baz from Carry On, knowing you I think you’ll love it too.I have Blood Red Road on my shelf and I think I’ll pick it up in the new year! Cait, I totally know what you mean about being competitive with yourself – because that’s what I do too. I hope in the New Year I’ll slow down a lot more and just celebrate reading for what it is you know, instead of constantly trying to do more? I’m sorry to hear it’s been a tough year – but I’m glad you accept that as who you are. We can’t always be 100% stable all the time and as long as you recognise it for what it is, you’ll be able to move on.
That ended up being strangely sentimental, whoops!
I’m kind of nervous about Carry On…I mean, I LOVE Fangirl so so much, but I had such a hard time with the Iron Trial, because I felt it was a HP rip-off. So I really don’t know if I’ll be okay with Carry On. BUT I’M GOING TO SEE. *nods*
At least being competitive with ourselves is sliiightly better than being competitive with others?! Maybe? HOPEFULLY. 😂
It’s one of my favorite posts too, I looooove talking about books!! And picking gifs for my feelings hahah. But mostly, BOOKS!
300 books holy shit!!!!! I read 79 and that’s close to my all-time best for me. Wow. I envy you 😀
Loved Winter and I adore the Seven Realms series!!! Seriously, if you loved the Demon King you are in for a treat bc each book gets better and better. I want to reread it. Looks like I need to read Princess of Thorns as well!
Yayyyy Maggie pushing! I love pushing The Raven Cycle on people and read The Scorpio Races for the first time this year.
Adventure Time hahah! Poor BMO. I need to read Illuminae soon; the description of AIDAN made me think of the ship in WALL-E.
JK ROWLING OMFG. But now you’ve read her, yaaaayyyy! And I have such intense, immense love for Ellie Marney’s Every series!
Dude. DUDE. ASOIAF IS SO SHOCKING. I picked up Game of Thrones when I knew it was going to be a show but before the show started so I knew nothing (Jon Snow, hah) and devoured the series and was supremely shocked the entire time. Intense feelings of love and hate for characters after 50 pages is usually a good sign haha. Yes lemon cakes!!!
I read Simon bc of twitter friends too and I’m so glad that I did!!! So cuuuuuute.
Hahaha you tell GRRM! He is a cruel cruel man… I was sure the Red Wedding was a ploy. Not real, nope. No way. Not believing it. *sigh* The Freys are on my permanent shit list.
I’ll have to check out some of those blogs!! Always looking for new ones to follow 🙂
Shiny and new is my weakness too, I’ve taken to suggesting titles for my library to buy bc I’m TRYING to be better at not buying soooo many books… I actually had a pretty good reading year, I’m being a little more selective and DNFing here and there so my ratings were on the high side bc I was good at picking Morgan books. Haha.
Just got Carry On at the library, can’t wait to read it!!! THE RAVEN KINGGGGGG GIVE IT TO ME NOW.
YAY WE ARE IN COMPLETE AGREEMENT ABOUT RECAPS THEN, MORGAN. *hi fives*😂
I’m reeeally excited to finish The Demon King series! I went ahead and bought all the others because I KNOW I’m going to love them. Book 3 is HIGH priority for January! 😀 I think this series is TOTALLY underrated. Also the Every Breath series is underrated! MORE LOVE FOR THESE BOOKS!!
I still can’t decide if I love or hate Game of Thrones. 😂 IT CONSTANTLY HAS ME CRYING?!?! Even though I KNOW they’re going to die?! Gah. I have problems. Seriously.
I need to learn how to DNF. Seriously, that would probably alleviate a lot of my mega-low star reviews if I just quite the book when I knew it wasn’t working for me. BUT I GOTTA KNOW THE END. *flaps about wildly*
COUNT DOWN TILL THE RAVEN KING. *hyperventilates*
Ah! I love when you do this list. But alas, I now have more books on my TBR list and it’s all your fault 😀
I happily accept this blame.😇😈
OH MY GOODNESS CONGRATS ON 300 BOOKS! My goal was to read 50, and I ended up reading around 160, so I did way over mine too. I hope one day to read 300 in a year! That would be amazing. YOU GO GIRL!
I definitely need to read more Maggie Stiefvater. I’ve only read the Wolves of Mercy Falls series (besides Sinner which I REALLY need to read because I LOVE Cole) though I do own The Scorpio Races too. I’ll have to check that one out in the next year along with The Raven Boys, which I have heard nothing but awesome things about. Good luck with your goals in the upcoming year! I’m hoping to read a little less review books and focus on books that have been on my TBR pile for 5ever.
Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian
THANK YOU!! *happy dance* Woah, and you did incredibly amazing too! GO YOU! 200 next year? 😉 hehehe JUST KIDDING. I’m actually not planning to read more than 300 next year because I need to focus on writing a bit more. hehe.
SINNER IS SO FULL OF COLE IT IS AMAZING. Also The Scorpio Races is an EXCELLENT place to continue. Then The Raven Boys. DO IT. *nods sagely*
Good luck with your 2016 too!! 😀
I would love to win The Girl of Fire and Thorns ebook. Its been on my buy list for so long there have just been so many books.
Yes, I have read and fallen head over heels for all of Maggie Stiefvater’s books. I still have to read Scorpio Races and Blue Lily, Lily Blue (I know, shame on me), but I already know that I will love them.
My favorite books this year were A Darker Shade of Magic (which I would suggest as your first book of 2016), Illuminae, and A Dream of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor. It was definitely a fantasy book kind of year for me.
I would recommend The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas. It is a fantasy novel (no surprise) about elemental mages and saving the world with a historical background. Basically, it was magical and amazing.
I hope 2016 is a great year for you and I hope that you are able to accomplish all of your goals!
YES YES YES re: The Raven Boys! I cannot wait for The Raven King!! I need to read The Accident Season
My 2015 Survey!
I really need to buy Bone Gap right now because it’s Cait that tells it’s one of her books in 2015. + Made You Up and Challenger Deep. And, ooh! Oooh! I should read Carry On and A Darker Shade of Magic next year, too! You should read Red Queen series. I have not read any from you with that series. LOL. Sorry not sorry. I love that series and you probably will.
ii’m finally just getting around to commenting and i first off want to say um THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING ME *cries* you’re like the blogging QUEEEEEEN so i feel beyond flattered for that. also, has anyone ever told you you’re a dragon? like a book-eating dragon because 300 books in a year is INSANE. do you even sleep? dragons don’t sleep. i’m sure. also congrats on being a finalist for the book shimmy awards!!!! i’m waiting for you to win. and if you don’t will, my father will hear about it. xxx
Oh my goodness, Cait, I love your posts! I so hope you win the Book Shimmy Award; you deserve it! 🙂
AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE RAVEN KING! I don’t know how I’m going to wait until April. Where’s my TARDIS?
*whispers* I do the same thing to books with horrible covers . . . you are not alone.
Cinder and Thoooorne. I love their friendship. I want their friendship. It’s adorable and perfect.
Like half the books you’ve been raving about are on my TBR list for this year!!! I think I may need to work up the courage to attack the gargantuan series that is Skulduggery Pleasant. Even though it’s terrifyingly large.
Whelp, your reviews of Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows make me nervous to continue . . . the first two books were so good and Chaol and Celaena are adorable and I don’t want that to change!
*falls to knees* Please, pleaaaaase read You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day. It’s quite possibly my all-time favorite book of 2015. Also you need to read The Host by Stephenie Meyer and All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill because SCI-FI AWESOMENESS.
I need a Thorne in my life FOR SURE. Unless I am the Thorne in everyone else’s life? I MEAN I AM DASHING AND SASSY. *flips hair* And omg omg!! Yesss you need to try Skulduggery. YOU’LL LOVE IT. and if you don’t, pfft, don’t even think about that. YOu’LL LOVE IT. (Plus you’d really like Demon Road because it’s sooo Supernatural-ish. They even have an epic car. Not quite as epic as Baby. BUT STILL.)
And you’ll probably like the rest of the SJM books. ;D I’m kind of a grumpy minority here. hehhhhh.
I want to read Felicia Day’s book so so bad!! I’m pestering my library to get it. XD
I became a total Rick Riordan fan after finishing The Sword of Summer just a few days ago! I’m SO thrilled he has a new series, The Trials of Apollo, coming out early this year, especially since the next Magnus Chase tale doesn’t debut until October! I can’t wait to read ALL of Riordan’s books! Happy reading and happy new year! 😀
Sounds like 2015 was a pretty good year! So many books are getting added to my tbr… :). The Accident Season was such a pleasant surprise, wasn’t it!
I am always amazed by the amount of books you read. And also envious, as I wish I could read that many myself. I’m happy to see that the number of 1 star reads you had was quite small, which is really good considering the amount you read. How do you keep track of your genres?!? I’ve actually made myself an Excel spreadsheet this year to keep track of all the books I read and review. We shall see if I keep at it. PROBABLY NOT!
Out of your top reads of this year, I’ve only read 1 – Blood Red Road. I still need to finish that series but I am nervous about the last book as I haven’t seen any positive reviews. I really loved book one, but was confused by the direction of book two. I am scared for book three. The others you picked are all on my TBR and I really hope I love them when I do.
The ones you didn’t like are ones I enjoyed. I loved ACOTAR. And QoS has still split my opinion. I really hate far too much about it but then I still love aspects of it too… especially the Manon chapters. I LOVE HER!!! I just got An Ember in the Ashes… fingers crossed I enjoy it.
I HAVE STILL NOT READ A MAGGIE STEIFVATER BOOK!!! SORRY!!! I will do it. I promise. At some point. Maybe in my week off in March I will try to breeze through some.
I only just finished Illuminae and I LOVED IT!!! AIDAN was rather scary at times. AM I NOT MERCIFUL? Gah… I can’t wait for book two. Such a uniquely written book.
I love doing this survey each year, but it takes forever to do. But I love looking back on my year in books.
Omg, I have A MASSIVE excel spreadsheet. *nods* And this year I’m tracking names of characters too? Because I feel like books I read always have the same names, so I want to see if it’s true. hehe.
And, awk, I’m bringer of bad news, but I just read Raging Star and NOPITY NOPE. XD If you stop before that, you’re not missing anything. IT’S SO DISAPPOINTING. Especially since the first two books are like my favourite of ever.😭😭😭
I’m seriously looking forward to your review of the next Throne of Glass book. Like I seriously want to quit on the series! So you can be my guinea pig. ;D
BUT ZOMG, CHARNELL. YOU NEED TO READ A STIEFVATER BOOK THIS YEAR. THE SCORPIO RACES. IT REALLY CALLS TO YOU.
A Song of Ice and Fire is definitely my most surprising read of last year. I’m not yet done with it though. I think I’m about 500 pages in and I needed to take a break. 😀 But the writing is lovely. And I’m also pretty much crazy over the TV series too!
I’m glad you like it too! WOOT. It’s really intense right?!?! The books just keep getting BIGGER AND BIGGER too. xD
