You know what the end of 2016 means, don’t you?
MORE CAKE!!!!!
Wait. Excuse me. My fingers slipped and I don’t know who’s talking about cake when clearly what I meant to type is it’s award time! Everywhere I turn in the blogosphere we’re doing yearly-recaps-posts and looking-back-at-our-favourite-books posts and gorgeous-covers-to-slay-your-eyeballs posts and IT’S FANTASTIC. And by “fantastic” I mean, “fantastically painful” because I’m supposed to remember what I read this year when I don’t even remember what I ate for dinner last night. *
So why don’t I torture myself further! And do a spontaneous Smashing & Dashing Characters of 2016 Awards tag. And I’m saying “tag” which means you can steal this if you want or just ignore me while I party randomly on my own. **
And WHO KNOWS. Someone else might be hosting a tag like this! I HAVE NO CLUE! This is just some random tag-time fun for me because it’s the end of the year and I’ve decided not to blog responsibly anymore when I can just shout randomly and throw pretty bookstagram photos at you. ***
Here’s How The #BookTag Works:
- There are a bunch of random award sections for different characters in books I’ve read in 2016.
- The books don’t have to just be published in 2016 however. BECAUSE TOO MANY RULES IS BAD FOR MY DIGESTION.
- I shall answer them and if you want to answer them on your own blogs GO FOR IT.
- But credit me because I’m precious.
- Also please wear a Santa hat and sing the Aussie Jingle Bells which is something about a rusty Holden ute and I just want to see the Americans looking at each other confusedly and saying “BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN????” because I’m evil and Australian and easily amused.
* I’m such a rotten liar! I totally remember! I ate…omg. Let me go ask my mum because I have no idea???? Wait it was fried chicken. And I had a small vegetable too because I’m an adult.
** Why yes I am #FABULOUS and also strange.
***”But when do you ever blog responsibly, Cait?” you ask. And yes. I see your point. Mostly never. No wait, I did once this year, I think, briefly. You might’ve missed it if you blinked.
1. MOST RELATABLE CHARACTER
I re-read Illuminae this year and I still marvellously relate to AIDAN. Yes. I am talking about the genius psychotic robotic computer system. We all have our persnality faults. But he tries so hard to relate to people (and fails) and he’s a know-it-all and suffers from short-term-memory-less and is sassy at times, and well, that’s just me.
I also hugely related to the adorable anxious wrecks in The Lost & Found. As an adorable anxious wreck myself — I SHOUT THAT THIS WAS WELL WRITTEN.
2. MOST PURE AND PRECIOUS ANIMAL COMPANION
Even though I’m still bitter about the novel of Pax overall…I ABSOLUTELY ADORED PAX THE LITTLE TAME FOX!! Yet he’s slightly outdone by the enormous glory that is Mister Kindly the talking cat made of shadows from Nevernight who is so sassy I’ve given my own dog the book so he can read and educate himself.
3. FIERCEST FIGHTER
Let’s just yell LADA from And I Darken and be done with it. That woman would stab you in the face with a butter knife and then go back to eating her scones. If she had scones. Which she didn’t because THAT’S THE WRONG ERA, CAIT.
But you get my drift.
Don’t eat breakfast with Lada.
4. MOST AMAZING SIDEKICK
Can we pause a moment for Sevro from the Red Rising trilogy who is not only (A) sassy, and (B) a dessert enthusiast, but (C) absolutely freaktastically scary?? Love him.
“You! Troll!” Sevro shouts. “I’m a terrorist warlord! Stop throwing me. You made me drop my candy!” Sevro looks at the floor of the hallway. “Wait. Where is it? Dammit, Ragnar. Where is my peanut bar? You know how many people I had to kill to get that? Six! Six!”
Also it’s possible that Sevro is me when it comes to delicious snacks.
5. ONE YOU’RE SURPRISED YOU LOVED
So I accidentally severely liked Blackhearts?? And I say “accidentally” because this is a pirate book THAT IS NOT A PIRATE BOOK and that’s the most disappointing thing in the world. * BUT YET I JUST KIND OF LIKED THE STORY. And I have high hopes that Teach will turn into a dastardly villain soon. Go, my son and future Blackbeard. Be evil. I believe in you.
* Second only to the disappointment of those delicious soaps that are carved and prettified to look like cakes but are actually genuinely soap and taste gross. Not that I would ever lick one, obviously.
6. BEST SASSMASTER
This is slightly cheating because I’m only halfway through but….THE LIES OF LOCKE LAMORA, PEOPLES. JUST GO READ IT AND THANK ME. It’s about thieves who spend 5% of their time stealing things and 95% of the time being sassy little hellions and admiring their own wit.
Also honourable mention to the sass levels of:
- Rhys from A Gathering of Shadows
- Kady and Ezra from Illuminae
- Magnus from Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor
- Amani from Rebel of the Sands
7. BEST ANTI-HERO AND MORALLY GREY GRAPE
This Savage Song is full of very very stabby monsters who will probably eat your soul while they play beautiful music — SO OBVIOUSLY I LOVE THEM.
And I would be a deluded grape if I didn’t mention 100% of the cast in Crooked Kingdom who are all AWFUL AND WOULD STEAL YOUR SOCKS WHILE YOU SLEPT but are also my favourites.
“Where do you think the money went?” he repeated.
“Guns?” asked Jesper.
“Ships?” queried Inej.
“Bombs?” suggested Wylan.
“Political bribes?” offered Nina. They all looked at Matthias. “This is where you tell us how awful we are,” she whispered.
8. BEST WORST VILLAIN TO HATE
I’m going to say Captain James Hook out of Never Never who is truly THE WORST AND MOST DISAPPOINTING VILLAIN EVER and spends at least 87% of the book crying and then expecting me to believe he’s evil. Like, no child. Could you even stab someone with a spork? You’re pathetic. You shame the pirate name.
9. TRULY ASTOUNDING WORST YA PARENTS
- My Sister Rosa — Like someone award these parents for having a sociopathic child and NOT CARING AT ALL EVER AND LETTING HER DO WHATEVER SHE WANTS HAHA IF SHE KILLS SOMEONE IT’LL BE FINE.
- The Raven Boys — to dear Adam Parish’s father….WELL I HOPE YOU FALL ON A TURNIP AND HIT YOUR HEAD, SIR, GOOD DAY YOU EVIL FIEND.
- And I Darken — oh the dad just SOLD HIS KIDS to potential death. No biggie.
10. TRULY ASTOUNDING BEST YA PARENTS
- Crooked Kingdom — Jesper’s dad was just about the sweetest thing ever.
- The Upside of Unrequited — I’M CHEATING BECAUSE THIS IS A 2017 RELEASE BUT. Molly’s two mums are the nicest.
- The Serpent King — Lydia’s parents were like NICE and it was so shocking I nearly FELL OFF MY SEAT.
11. TOOT TOOT BEST SHIP OF THEM ALL
IT’S TOO HARD. PYNCH?? BLUESY?? NINA + MATTHIAS??? NABRIEL??? KESTREL + ARIN???
ME + MY BOOKSHELF????
12. THE MOST IN NEED OF PROTECTION
I shall say literally everyone in The Serpent King, because they are sad and precious little sardines who need better lives even if I must kidnap them from the author to give them this. (Great book, by the way. READ IT IMMEDIATELY. IT IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES OF THE YEAR.)
Also second place will go to Colton and Danny of Timekeeper for they are entirely precious. And since we’re dishing out multiple places — WHAT THE HECK — I’ll also squish in Henry and Rachel from Words In Deep Blue (hurrah #LoveOzYA) because they are damaged souls but love books. Clearly the best.
13. MOST BORING AS A BARNACLE
I shall kindly nominate Truthwitch with its cast of special snowflakes and promised “strong female friendships” which equated to the two females NEVER EVEN BEING IN THE SAME ROOM. Who’s napping? Not me, surely.
14. BEST LITTLE ROYAL
Oh dear little ELLI from The Impostor Queen who is the worst magical queen ever. Because she’s not magical.
Also Em from Ruined who is again the worst magical queen ever because she’s not magical.
There’s something with the E names???? Avoid if you want to be magical.
15. VERY SURPRISED YOU’RE STILL ALIVE
The entire cast of The Emperor’s Blade should be dead. Honestly now. I mean, many of them did die. But seriously…there was probably only about 3 chapters altogether where someone wasn’t being nearly murdered.
I like this book.
16. BEST AT HORRIBLE DECISION MAKING
Both Jack and Libby from Holding Up The Universe. Just like…both of you, I love you but: no stahp this and think for a minute.
17. CUTEST DORK
MAGNUS DORKY CHASE. But I shall also nominate Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before because she likes sewing and baking and cute clothes and is just all around THE CUTEST DORK.
18. CLEVEREST LITTLE HELLION
- Kaz from Crooked Kingdom…like if I mention him one more time you’re liable to hit me with a small shovel. BUT WHAT CAN I SAY EXCEPT HI MY NAME IS OBSESSED-WITH-THE-DREGS AND I HAVE NO REGRETS IN OBSESSING OVER THIS SERIES.
- Kvothe from The Name of the Wind. So smart he got a magical university to pay him to enter instead of the other way around.
- AIDAN from Illuminae who has the brain the size of a continent and is definitely clever and also uses this brain to (A) wipe out thousands of lives, and (B) make word art photos of Kady because #crush.
19. MOST IN NEED OF A NAP
Me.
HAHAHHAAH JUST KIDDING. I’M NOT A FICTIONAL CHARACTER! (Or am I…)
I will actually say most characters need a good long nap? Because seriously how do you even go on full-speed for months and months without naps??? Or snacks for that matter??
But let’s nominate:
- Kaz from Six of Crows because I don’t think he’s ever had a nap in his life.
- Sean from The Scorpio Races because he’s always working and THE SMALL CHILD NEEDS TO SLEEP.
- Gansey from The Raven King because he has insomnia and has probably slept for like 45 collective minutes over the last four books and I’M WORRIED ABOUT HIM.
20. WANT TO READ MORE ABOUT YOU
RONAN LYNCH AND HOPEFULLY MY PRAYERS WILL BE ANSWERED IF MAGGIE STIEFVATER PUBLISHES THE RONAN TRILOGY.
I also want more Sean and Puck from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.
And I wouldn’t say no to like finding out the actual END of the Lament and Ballad series by Maggie Stiefvater —
Wait. What do you mean I’m obsessed with Stiefvater books? FIRSTLY HOW CAN YOU TELL? SECONDLY, DON’T BE RIDICULOUS. I am nothing if not subtle.
And yet I still feel like I missed out on mentioning some favourite characters!
Probably because I was trying to answer every question with “KAZ” which I don’t regret but does explain some things. Either way — I wish to flail with you now over our favourite thing of ever WHICH IS FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, BLESS THEIR DEVIOUS FAKE LIVES. And I’m really monstrously pleased I’ve read some exceptionally epic books this year! 2016 has been rough for us all, I think, BUT AT LEAST WE HAVE OUR FICTIONAL BESTIES TO SEE US THROUGH.
#TAG QUESTIONS IN CASE YOU WANT TO STEAL THEM:
1. MOST RELATABLE CHARACTER
2. MOST PURE AND PRECIOUS ANIMAL COMPANION
3. FIERCEST FIGHTER
4. MOST AMAZING SIDEKICK
5. ONE YOU’RE SURPRISED YOU LOVED
6. BEST SASSMASTER
7. BEST ANTI-HERO AND MORALLY GREY GRAPE
8. BEST WORST VILLAIN TO HATE
9. TRULY ASTOUNDING WORST YA PARENTS
10. TRULY ASTOUNDING BEST YA PARENTS
11. TOOT TOOT BEST SHIP OF THEM ALL
12. THE MOST IN NEED OF PROTECTION
13. MOST BORING AS A BARNACLE
14. BEST LITTLE ROYAL
15. VERY SURPRISED YOU’RE STILL ALIVE
16. BEST AT HORRIBLE DECISION MAKING
17. CUTEST DORK
18. CLEVEREST LITTLE HELLION
19. MOST IN NEED OF A NAP
20. WANT TO READ MORE ABOUT YOU
I’m so doing this!
Dude, I’ve been waiting for that elusive sequel to Lament and Ballad for a couple of centuries now. But I remain in (slowly dwindling) hope.
Also, when I was at school they tried to make us sing along to Aussie Jingle Bells at some end of year Christmas assembly thing. The video’s a thing of glory but it’s associated with the memory of school and singing in public, which taints it a little, admittedly.
Yayyyyy!! I CAN’T WAIT TO READ YOUR POST!! And omg can we like send a petition to Maggie Stiefvater for Ballad/Lament answers?! I need more James.😭 I NEED MORE NUELLA. (Did I even spell that right omg?!)😂
Ohhh, that would be an interesting video.😂 My 6yo nephew sings it all the time and it’s hilarious. hehe.
Ooooh, I’d be the first to sign a petition.
Also, BAM: https://shelftacular.wordpress.com/2016/12/13/the-smashing-dashing-2016-character-awards-tag-feat-an-an-unusual-amount-of-capitalisation/
YAY I’LL COME READ YOURS ASAP!
This was a great tag! I might steal it… or Shar might. We’ll see! I really related to Seraphina from Seraphina and Shadow Scale. she’s kind and capable and still imperfect and tryign to deal with freaking annoying (yet amazing) dragons. And I think that all the girls from The Circle triology need a nap, because fighiting demons, dealing with high school, and stopping the apocalypse is very tiring. Just imagine some general flailing in your direction about The Scorpio Races, Illuminae, and Six of Crows.
Eeeep, I hope you do because I can’t wait to read your answers!!😂 Omg I loved Seraphina so much! I loved her uncle too…although I can’t remember his name and that just shames me. SIGHS. I’m going to re-read it next year and then I can read Shadow Scale finally. (It’s only been 62 years since I told myself to read that…)
Fighting demons is definitely a nap worthy occupation. *nods sagely*
So totally going to do this but I read a sad amount of books this year *cry*.
Also reading crooked kingdom and omg kazkazkazkazkazkaz.
I do not have an unhealthy obsession with Kaz. You do.
YOU CAN JUST ANSWER EVERY QUESTION WITH “KAZ” TOO THEN! See? All problems solved. *nods* And pfft, I’m not denying my unhealthy obsession with Kaz. I’m too far gone for lies now.
This is so awesome!
That photo of This Savage Song is gorgeous! Can you play the violin too by any chance?? 😀
I totally agree with My Sister Rosa with the parents – half the time, I was facepalming at what the parents and in general, the adults, were like with Rosa.
P.S. I love that you also wrote a copy of the questions below – so useful!
I can play violin! Or, well, haha, I used to…I would probably sound like a squawking dying chicken now.😂 (I switched to cello although omg I haven’t played cello in a year either. THE BOOKS ARE TAKING OVER MY LIFE.) And I felt so bad for Chee the whole time in My Sister Rosa. He was more of a parent to Rosa than THE ACTUAL PARENTS WERE.
WoOOoOoOoOOooWww this is suuuch a fun tag! You know I might steal it later 😛 YESSS to Aidan and I just read The Lost & Found literally yesterday and I love Louis and his twin sister so much <3 Lada scared the living out of me as well, she's just super scary and I legit don't want to be anywhere near her :') also yes to all of the sassmasters you listed above esp Kady and Ezra and Magnus!! I also appreciate you mentioning Kaz–or the Dregs every chance you got because like I ADORE THEM so much too! <3 as for most relatable character… I'm not sure anymore, like I read so many books over the year and I found a lot of relatable characters but now I can't even pick one? :') hahaha but I think it's probably Lydia from The Serpent King because like her I always see everything as blog post material and I could be oblivious to important stuffs around me 😛 also EVERYONE in a fantasy novel obviously needs sleep!
OMG I’M SO GLAD YOU’LL DO IT TOO!! *hi fives* 😜
The Lost and Found is completely underrated, right?!? It’s so precious and I just love Louis so so much. <3 And Lada was AWESOME but agreed: let's not be in the same room as her ever. I shall sit with Radu. He is nice. And Kaz is kind of the same as Lada almost?? Like I love him but I think I might not want to be in the same room as him. JUST FOR SAFETY SAKE.
Ommgggg I LOVED LYDIA SO MUCH!! Although I want her blogging tips. HOW IS SHE SO FAMOUS. HELP ME PLEASE, LYDIA.😂
AMAZING IDEA CAAIIT! You are such a genius (and napper XD). I loved this tag and it was fun to see what you thought of different characters in different books. This would be a perfect way to wrap up the whole bookish 2016! So, thanks, I may be stealing this soon!
yaY I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKE IT. And yesss, I am a big advocate of naps. Sleeping is delightful and so many characters just probably would do a LOT better at saving the world if they’d had a small nap and a delicious cupcake before heading into battle. I nominate me to make sure this happens and to be the Character Carer. #CareerGoals
Omg yes for Gansey😂 and Sean too😂 (notice s pattern here? STIEFVATER CHARACTERS REALLY NEED SLEEP) Loved this tag!! Will definitely be doing it. (And would be taking 1000 years to think up for answers😂)
OH BELIEVE ME, I’VE NOTICED. Stiefvater characters do. not. sleep. Like Cole in the Shiver books?? He never sleeps either. It’s exhausting reading Stiefvater books because all the children need to NAP and BE CALM and yet they just ignore my wishes and nearly die. Typical.
I can’t wait to read your version!! WOOO!! *gives you cake*
ooooh, I’m doing this. but for you right now:
(a) I’m going to say sophie, from keeper of the lost cities.
(b) uhhh, sophie again? she’s busy all day and then can’t sleep at nights.
I have a feeling she’s going to show up a lot. and Katniss.
Most crazily, ~Olive
Yayy I can’t wait to read your version, Olive! And I LOVE KATNISS. Which reminds me how much I want to re-read those books. <3
Stealing these questions for sure!
OH GOOD. I won’t be partying alone.😂
Lada is amazing (and scary)! I for sure agree with you for her as the fiercest fighter. Amani’s sass was the best! The characters in Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom are THE BEST! I love them with all my heart. Aww and Jesper’s dad was a nice addition to the story, too/ Now I really want to do this tag. Lara Jean can be kind of childish and annoying, but out of any other characters I’ve read in books this year, I think I relate to her most. Her close relationship with her sisters reminds me of me and my sister. <3 I don't know who particularly needs a nap though, because everyone needs a nap every now and then.
Lada’s complete awesomeness, yet scariness, IS JUST AMAZING. I seriously cannot wait for the sequel to be nearly out, so I have an excuse to re-read the first book hehe.
And I’m so glad Jesper’s dad was in there and he was NICE. It’s just so refreshing to find nice YA parents in books on occasion, and not the ones that are always trying to murder their kids or just end up being murdered. *sigh* It’s so perilous to be a YA parent tbh. And I like how Jesper’s dad was so much smaller than him but Jesper was still scared he was going to get in trouble.😂😂
I love your tag. Some of these categories are . . . unusual. I still need to read This Savage Song. It’s sitting on my TBR shelf right now.
Of COURSE they’re unusual.😂 I created the tag after all, hahaha. And I mean, most tags are like “book boyfriend!” and I’m like “NOMINATE A CHARACTER FOR A NAP!” So. That’s a good summary of Paper Fury for you right there.😂
So I haven’t commented here in ages, and I apologize for that- college sort of ate me a little. But I love this tag thing and I probably will steal it for all the end-of-year blogging I’ll be doing over break (which is coming up soon, thank God!). I agree very much with those characters I recognize- particularly Gansey. The poor boy does indeed need a nap. And probably a hug. He did sort of, y’know, die. And absolutely yes to more Sean and Puck (though I won’t be heartbroken if that doesn’t happen, because their story actually had a really good ending IMO.)
My most relateable character of this year . . . hum. Hard to decide. I guess I’m going to go with Reuben from Lady Dragon, Tela Du, because I feel like our reactions to a lot of things would be pretty similar (though I might freak out a little more about certain things than he does. not much). Character most in need of a nap- as you said already, probably Gansey, though I feel like there’s others as well. Not sure who. I’ll figure it out in time for the tag.
Oh HI SARAH!! *waves* And omg you do not need to apologise ever! I do love chatting with you always, but I totally understand that college would be a priority and time consuming and probably eat your entire brain at times. *nods* But yay that you’re going to do the tag too! I AM GLAD. I’m not partying alone anymore.😂
I lowkey want a spin-off Scorpio Races story about Finn!? ANd then like we can see Sean and Puck in the distance raising rabid horses and rabid violent children and it’ll be adorable but I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT FINN. He is too precious for this world and I’m like 99% sure he has OCD. And I also want him and his car just to be happy, y’know?
Everyone in the Raven Cycle is an insomniac, right?! It’s EXHAUSTING just reading those books. Take naps, children. How are they all even awake.
I’ve read exactly 40 pages of Six of Crows so far and already I can tell that Kaz has never had a nap in his life ever. He might just need a drink at this point.
I ship you and your bookshelf. #OTP Doesn’t everyone?!
IT’S SO RARE TO FIND GOOD PARENTS IN YA. (I’m also partially responsible–oops.) But I’m sure lots of them were perfectly fine if they weren’t, you know, dead or something. It’s not their fault they didn’t live to show the reader just how cool they were.
Kaz needs naps and cupcakes and protection, mostly from himself also because he’s a precocious little devil BUT YET I STILL LOVE HIM. *shrieks* And omg shipping oneself + one’s shelf is obviously the ONLY way to be in life.
Hehe, don’t worry, I’ve written some horrendous bookish parents too.😂 And yes, omg they’re always pitching over dead, aren’t they? The highest death rate in YA books is literally just being a parent.
I’ve only read Crooked Kingdom and TRC from this whole list, and only like a quarter through Red Rising so idk who Sevro is??? But anyways I love the dregs with MY WHOLE HEART. I just can’t handle them <33 And also yes I fully agree Adam's dad should fall on a turnip and hit his head and become a confused bean.
Loving the Dregs is like a full time occupation, tbh. WE SHOULD GET TEE SHIRTS AND CROW-SHAPED CUPCAKES AND JUST BE PROFESSIONAL DREG FANGIRLS. #goals
Ah yes, the eating of a single solitary vegetable, the final sign of True Adulthood.
I’ll probably have to steal this at some point! WELL YES KAZ BREKKER IS AN EXCELLENT ANSWER TO BASICALLY EVERY QUESTION SO THERE’S THAT.
Ellie | On the Other Side of Reality
It is true adulthood. *nods* And we can reward ourselves for Devouring The Solitary Vegetable with like, chocolate or something, right? That is how adulting is done.
KAZ BREKKER IS EVERYTHING. He would probably even fit the best AND worst parent categories were he to have children. #truth
HAH – I love the best and worst parents in YA category. Oh, AIDAN. I really do love that evil computer. Colton and Danny from Timekeepers are precious and must be protected at all costs- I highly agree!
-Lauren
AIDAN is a precious little pumpkin. And Danny and Colton probably could not get any cuter. TOO PRECIOUS FOR THIS WORLD.
This post was so fun. XD Even though I guiltily haven’t read most of the characters you mentioned. *cough* Buuut I know ABOUT the Stiefvater charries and some of the others because you educate me so well, and of course the precious Kaz & Co. whom I’ve read. 😉
EXCEPT WAIT A MOMENT. *prods your memory* Kaz totally had a (albeit accidental) nap in Crooked Kingdom!! Which startled and freaked him out when he woke up because it was not on purpose and he didn’t remember falling asleep but he just couldn’t keep going AND WOKE UP AND WAS LIKE WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED WHERE AM I WHO DO I NEED TO KILL basically. Leave it to Kaz to be terrified of naps the precious blackhearted soul. XD BUT I TOTALLY AGREE HE NEEDS A NAP. I HOPE HE NAPS FOR A MONTH AFTER THAT SERIES GOSH.
Also that makes me worried about Gansey. O_O
*casually slides post into my tags-to-do pile*
AS LONG AS YOU KNOW ABOUT PRECIOUS KAZ & CO. That’s really all I ask these days. :’) *sniffles happily* I mean, I’d whine at you to read Stiefvater but I think I recall you don’t like urban fantasy like that??? You’ll just have to excuse me if I’m wrong.😂 I remember all the wrong things hahha.
WOAH I DO NOT REMEMBER KAZ’S CROOKED KINGDOM NAP!!! I need to re-read immediately omg. (And yes naps are kind of terrifying if you’re like totally wanted and everyone wants to kill you, probably. But Inej can protect the precious fragile delicate Kaz.)
Sophie Foster from Keeper of the Lost Cities should have died long before her book series even began. That’s all I have to say,
Okay then.😳
As response to question 15. XD
I laughed out loud when I saw your relation to AIDEN but it makes so much sense! Also, I just recently read Illuminae and I loved him and then felt deeply conflicted about loving him. And continue to mention Kaz because he’s amazing. I’m still kind of mourning that there won’t be any more Kaz 🙁 🙁
HEYYYYY Aidan is actually a SWEET PRECIOUS PUMPKIN and not really, like, a mass-murdering-psycho-computer-system. He’s just misunderstood. #ISwearImNormal 😂
And omg don’t remind me that there’s no more Kaz books. I CRY. I CRY.😭
I don’t really have a most relatable character. I usually stop reading the book if that happens, because it freaks me out. There was this one book by Sarah Addison Allen, I think it was called the Sugar Queen, and it freaked me out and made me angry (like a lot) so I stopped reading it. I might pick it up again someday in the far future. I guess if I had to choose one though it would be Leah (ironic) in Simon vs. The Homosapiens Agenda. She just has the same views as me I felt. When I was reading I was like *gasp* she doesn’t like people, just like me! Just her personality matched up similarly to mine I felt. The character I think most in need of a nap is Helene from A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir. I felt like she was just running around the whole time trying to find some peace but couldn’t. Also I liked Truthwitch and can’t wait for the second book! I think I like a lot of books that other people view as slow like Queen of the Tearling. I’m always like oh, after I see other opinions and think “What were the slow parts?” I like poltical fantasy and books that take place in courts, its like *gasp* This war lord doesn’t like this war lord for this secret reason, now they have to work together! I wish that was a real plot line now. Anyway I liked your pictures this post a lot! My favorite is the one with a stack of books with leaves flowing down it, and your back is turned to an audiobook. I especially liked the leaves flowing down the books though. I don’t know why:)
You’ve mentioned that you don’t read books with relatable characters! And I’m still confused about that, I confess. haha.😂 So like if you read about a character who likes the same food as you…will you stop reading the book? Because that’s what I classify as relatable tbh. I was just curious if we have the same definition of “relatable”?
Ooh, I love Simon Vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda! I loved Simon the best.😂 SUCH A DORK.
And omg YES SOMEONE GIVE HELENE A NAP. She was my favourite part of that book haha.
Aww, thank you about my photos!! 😀 That makes my day!
This is a great post and I will certainly steal your questions. But I’ll need heaps of time to think about this one, hmmm…
Oooh, YAY. I can’t wait to read your answers!!
HAHAHAHA forever laughing at you choosing AIDAN as the most relatable character. Typical.
But it makes me sooooo happy that you loved The Serpent King. YES. And omg I have to do this tag. I also have the slightly harebrained idea that I’m going to do miniature reviews of all the books I’ve read this year because I really dropped the ball with properly reviewing them.
YOU GOTTA HAVE SEEN THAT COMING. MY PRECIOUS LITTLE ADIAN PUMPKIN. <3 #ISwearImNormal
I've kind of always wanted to do like a 1 or 2 sentence review of all the books I've rad in a year to recap them?! And then I remember I've read 200 and there's no way I'm going to do that, so I just sit around yelling about the same books over and over and annoying everyone BUT HEY. THAT'S WHAT MY BLOG IS ABOUT.
OH MAH GOSH!! This tag is the greatest!!!!
(A)- I will nominate Blue Sargent as most relatable, lol, taking her situations and placing myself in them, wouldn’t I do the same *cough* eating around the fruity yogurt parts *cough* XDDD And every character I’ve read this year who loves food.
(B)- I Agree with you GANSEY! Dear lord the poor boy. So so tired.
Your picks were great! (Even if I haven’t read Leigh Bardugo’s books yet xD )hahaha
I will proceed to go through your tag with my siblings and compare our choices! #FUN #thankyousofreakingmuch
ohhhh YES I agree with Blue. I mean, I don’t actually know how she didn’t smack all those Raven boys in the face several times, tho. I think I would’ve had much less patience. And like all the characters who love food are clearly my soul twins too. *nods* THIS IS FACT. FOOD IS THE REASON FOR LIFE. And why is everyone in the Raven Cycle an insomniac?! My children need sleeeeep.
*quietly piles Leigh Bardguo’s books on your head* LOOK I’M NOT BEING BOSSY OR TELLING YOU WHAT TO DO BUT GO READ THEM IMMEDIATELY.
Ok, first and foremost, I have to say that your blog continues to be hilarious! 😂 I’m doing the Rort Gilmore Reading Challenge next year, but I think there needs to be a PaperFury Challenge too! Any book you recommend, I’m reading! 😀
1. Most Relatable Character: Charlie from Girl in Pieces/Cath from The Weight of Zero. Both were going through things that were very similar to what I have been/continue to go through, so seeing myself so well on the page was amazing.
2. Most In Need Of A Nap: Either Alex (I think that’s his name) from the Runaways comic (dude SERIOUSLY needs to reevaluate his priorities, maybe after nap time?) or Ronan Lynch (love him, precious badass, but needs a chill out rest time).
OKAY THIS IS GOOD NEWS.😂 I’m always mildly scared that my sense of humour only appeals to me, because let’s admit…this blog is kind of bizarre sometimes. Omg but a reading challenge? I’M TOO LAZY FOR THAT, HEATHER, COME ON NOW.😂 I need to actually participate in a reading challenge and stick to it myself first haha.
Oooh, I want to read The Weight of Zero!! But if you had to go through anything that Charlie from Girl in Pieces went through then omg let me hug you and probably give you all the cake of ever. That book was tough. *sends all the encouraging chocolate cake*
YES SOMEONE GIVE ALL THE STIEFVATER CHARACTERS NAPS. There was so much insomnia going down in The Raven Cycle, I needed a nap just reading it.
Yeah, reading challenges are hard to stick to. I’m doing a big one next year and I’m already petrified of it, but I feel like it’s time to do it. The Rory Gilmore Challenge has something like 300+ books on it, more than I’ve ever read in a year and this isn’t even counting all the YA books I’ll want to read. Good lord help me now!
Thanks for the cake offer. 🙂 Angel food is my favorite. 😀
Hopefully Ronan will get lots of sleep in his new series!
I MUCHLY AGREE WITH ALL OF THE SIX OF CROWS. SIX OF CROWS IS LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFE. and i haven’t read Crooked Kingdom yet which makes me so sad ugh. And the family in The Serpent King is the best!!! I love the dad so much bless him. And I find Lydia so sassy and she’s a fashion BLOGGER with 170k followers (ugh I wish I was Lydia) and just so GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. Great post, Cait!
IT IS LIFE. IT IS PAIN AND FEELS, BUT THAT JUST MEANS LIFE. But omg yuo must read Crooked Kingdom. It’ll knock your socks off and you’ll need to eat 90000 waffles afterwards, I promise.
And omg everything is so wonderful about The Serpent King. And I just wanted Lydia’s dad to adopt Trevor and Dillon because THAT WOULD’VE FIXED EVERYTHING OMG. (Also why didn’t Lydia give us some tips?!? I have need.😂)
Ooo, this is fun! Mine is scheduled to go up at http://oliviakfisher.blogspot.com/2016/12/the-smashing-dashing-2016-character.html next Friday morning. 🙂
Yayyy, I’m glad you joined in!
As soon as I saw the post tile, before you said anyone could grab it I made up my mind to steal this. Except that means I’ll have to remember which books I read this year. I’m terrible at keeping records, but Amazon should know when I bought books from them. (read grabbed freebies for 98% of them because I’m cheap like that.) (And now I think your blogging voice is rubbing off on me Cait)
I’m going to have a completely different list to you since I doubt we read any of the same books this year. Or hardly ever. That’s despite me occasionally mentioning a book in a comment and you being a book blogger.
I must admit I read hardly any of your reviews because i know our tastes are mostly different. That that’s fine. We don’t have to like the same books. Except for the Rizkaland Legends and Ilyon Chronicles because dragons and stabbing people. Even though you’ll probably still not read them,.
And making the rambling comments is oddly therapeutic even though I’m in no need of therapy.
Oh gloriousness! I can’t wait to read your answers!🎉 And omg if it wasn’t for Goodreads, I’d have no idea what I read ever.😂 I have the memory of a dying grape, I tell you. (Heeeey no shame for freebies! THEY ARE AWESOME.) (And I’m an evilly wonderful influence and you’re welcome.)
And totally true: it’s great that people have different tastes in books! I tend to not read reviews for books I’ll probably never read either, so I understand. *nods*
MISTER KINDLY IS MY FAVOURITE! How good was Aidan omg. SEVRO FOREVER! I can’t believe I still haven’t read This Savage Song omg. NINA AND MATTHIAS is my favourite omg. Kaz. Kaz is my favourite ever. Okay look my comment made not a lot of sense but know that I agreed with lots of your picks!
OMG JEANN, YOU MUST READ THIS SAVAGE SONG SO I CAN FLAIL WITH YOU. PLEEEEASE. And Mister Kindly = <3 I mean, that cat. So much sass. 😂 He was the most perfect thing of ever.
Kaz needs a nap, but also an award for just being so INCREDIBLY AWESOME. PLEASE STEAL EVERYTHING OF EVER, KAZ, AND THEN I CAN READ 98 BOOKS ABOUT YOU.
ronan lynch should have his own talking show… I will definitely watch/ read it. I cannot do this tag because I clearly have not read 80% of the books you listed.
that means i am depressingly behind in my TBR..
that means I hate my kids they chew up too much of my time!! (no I don’t have them… but I hate myself for loving them.)
You don’t have to have read the books I’ve read to do the tag! I meant for everyone to fill in the questions with characters from books you’ve read hehe. Hopefully that makes sense?
AH THOSE KIDS. WONDERFUL AND YET TIME EATERS. *gives you cake anyway*
What a fantastic tag! The scary thing is, that I’ve only read 2 of the books you mentioned. LIKE WHAT. But I heartily agree that poor Kaz needs a goddamn nap. And also that Kvothe is terrifyingly clever. Clearly I need to get some more reading done – you put me to shame!
At least we can hope Kaz takes a nap after what he went through in Crooked Kingdom?? Like a smol nap before he goes off to be devious again, please, Leigh Bardugo? WE NEED TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF THIS SMOL TERRIFYING THIEVING CHILD. And I lowkey hope Kvothe does something darkly wonderful with his cleverness. Kaz + Kvothe = should get together and take over the world.
(Oh shhh, don’t be ashamed!!😂 I’m just a rabid reader with no life, clearly. 😉 )
Stealing this! Of course, I will credit you, Cait. But this seems amazing! I’m not really a tag person but YAY!
Happy reading!
HUZZAH I CAN’T WAIT TO READ YOUR VERSION!
I’m going to go ahead and choose a character from a TV show as my most relatable (I’M BREAKING A RULE! *GASP*). I’m picking Pidge from Voltron Legendary Defender because I am also a sulky, sarcastic, secretive, short person.
Most in need a nap character… I don’t know, either Kell or Ronan.
I might steal this…;)
Breaking rules is like MY FAVOURITE THING so you’re good.😂 Ahem. Unfortunately I don’t knooooow who Pidge is but sarcastic/sulky/short people are like literally the best?!? So I approve.
(Yessss, please steal it!!)
(And yes let’s give Ronan a nap too. I actually got super tired in the Raven Cycle with how many insomniacs were running around. Like let’s just take a nap, peoples?? Please? For my sakes, my children???)
This is such a fantastic post!! Sadly I have no idea who most of these characters are because I haven’t read the books. *runs into a corner to hide* Still need to read Illuminae for instance!
~Sara
Awk, Illuminae is SO SO GOOD!! I hope you do get a chance to read it sometime! Although I mean, I’m sitting here having not read the sequel, so hehe. I’m kind of shameful too.😂😜😜
ERMERGERD. Now I am stressing because THERE ARE SO MANY BOOKS TO READ AND I DEFINITELY NEED A BOOK BENEFACTOR AND LITERALLY NO RESPONSIBILITIES. I can’t believe I only started reading for real again in August??? AND NOW HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FEED THIS ADDICTION. Anyways ‘nervous laughter*
I love this list. I will obviously steal it and shout about you ferociously like I always do.
I NEED A BOOK BENEFACTOR TOO. LIKE WHERE CAN WE GET ONE? OR TWO, I MIGHT NEED TWO BECAUSE I HAVE A LOT OF BOOKISH NEEDS. *shrieks from the hilltops* And also *pats shoulder* There there, there’s no satisfying this edition. You’ll be like a rabid teenage boy who can never be filled up and is always hungry. But for this it’s books.
I look forward to reading your ferocious shouting too. *hi fives* I SWEAR WE’RE LIKE LONG LOST SISTERS.
*sobs quietly* There are worse things than being like a rabid teenage boy….right????
I SWEAR YOU CAN READ MY MIND. We are totally long lost sisters (BECAUSE WHO NEEDS ONLY 4 SISTERS?? Far too few, Bertha).
Oh, yes! I was planning an end-of-year/books read post, and this will work perfectly in it!
Oh yay! I am glad!!🎉🎉 I can’t wait to read yours!
Ahh, most of the characters you mentioned are from books on my TBR list – although you make them sound very promising 🙂 However I have read Pax – I agree he is the cutest/loyalest thing – although I hated the ending of the book! Meanwhile an Ending for ballad & Lament – yes please 🙂 I too would love to know what happened with those stories. And the cast from The scorpio races too…
Otherwise my favourite characters this year were Aventurine (The dragon with a chocolate heart) because she makes me want chocolate and therefore justifies me stocking up the cupboards, and The Bronte sister (a world of ink and shadow) because dang it, I want the power to write my own world too!
Great post as always – thanks for sharing!
BECAUSE THEY ARE INCREDIBLY PROMISING! *flails wildly* And omg wasn’t the ending of Pax just stupid?!? Like the whole book was just pointless. And I hate that idea that you can “grow out of needing your friend”…like, no. If at any point someone took my dog away I WOULD JUST DIE. Stupid ending. *cries for a long time* I wanted Pax and Peter to live together until they were old and grey and then be buried together. <3 (Shhh, I'm aware foxes don't live as long as people BUT STILL.)
I sooooo want Maggie Stiefvater to finish Lament/Ballad. I NEED.
Omg I want to read The Dragon With the Chocolate Heart so bad now! BECAUSE TITLE. hehe. And this makes me want to read Ink and Shadow more!! 😀
This is my favourite post ever!! All the stars and the cake!! Which would you like?
I’m so happy that you are reading more stabby adult fantasy, especially since I read The Lies of Locke Lamora when it came out and today all I remember was how awesome those sassmasters were. I need to reread and buy all the books.
You’ll like Half a King too, if you haven’t read it, have you? And I got Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence which is about the last in line, coward prince. I read just one chapter where he explains how to run away like a coward without seeming like one and I think I will love.
Kvothe sounds epic. Need. Require.
I WANT ALL THE CAKE. *flings cake crumbs in the air* Ahem, I mean, I’ll share it with you because I’m #nice. And omgggg I just finished Lies of Locke Lamora. and I am a FANGIRLING MESS. Seriously I think it’s the best book I’ve read this year?!? I want to laugh and cry all at once. How do I emotion.
hOW DO I EMOTIONNNNNN.
And I can’t get book 2 until someone gives it up at my library.😭😭😭😭 I NEED IT NOW. AFJKHGKHGDG
And yes I have read Half a King! I LOVED IT. So hilarious. I had Prince of Fools on my TBR but hadn’t really heard much about it, but omg if it’s like that, then I’ll need it. Is it funny/sassy too?? I loved Mark Lawrence’s Prince of Thorns. (He sure loves his princes.😂)
I GIVE YOU QUOTES:
“I’m a liar and a cheat and a coward, but I will never, ever, let a friend down. Unless of course not letting them down requires honesty, fair play, or bravery.”
“To err is human, to forgive is divine… but I’m only a cardinal and cardinals are human, so rather than forgiving you I’m going to err towards beating you with this stick.”
AND MY FAV:
“Battles are all about strategy, and strategy pivots on priorities. Since my priorities were Prince Jalan, Prince Jalan, and Prince Jalan, with “looking good” a distant fourth, I took the opportunity to resume running away. I find that the main thing about success is the ability to act in the moment. A hero attacks in the moment; a good coward runs in it. The rest of the world waits for the next moment and ends up as crow food.”
AHHH I NEED IT SO SO BAD NOW.😂😂
This is such a great tag! I’m definitely going to give it a go soon(ish).
I completely agree with you about Jack and Libby having horrible decision-making skills in Holding Up the Universe. They frustrated me so much. And Mister Kindly in Nevernight was just plain fantastic! So many of the books you’ve mentioned are on my TBR and this makes me want to read them so much more.
OH GOODIE. *flings confetti over both of us* I won’t be partying awkwardly alone.😂
And omg yes, I think Jack and Libby just need to sit down and be quiet until they get a bit more maturity.😂 BUT I DID STILL LOVE THEIR ADORABLE LITTLE IDIOT FACES. Mister Kindly, however, is like probably the best character of this year. He’s too fabulous.
YES CAIT! Locke is one hundo p the sassiest sassmaster out there. There aren’t a lot of people who can pull of sass while submerged in a barrel of wee but he totally can.
I think it says a lot that I’ve only read the first Raven Cycle book (I knoooooow *hangs head in shame*) and I still hate Adam’s dad. Hopefully he doesn’t get worse and instead just gets run over by a bus. It could happen!
SEAN AND PUCK, my precious babies! Like I’m actually too scared to read more about them because how could anything top Scorpio Races???? HOW???? But of course I would read any follow ups because I have no will power.
I JUST FINISHED THE LIES OF LOCKE LAMORA AND I’M LIKE FREAKING OUT ALL OVER THE PLACE. I’M IN LOOOOOOOOOOOVE. I especially love how he like can manage to sass people while he’s getting his head smacked about. What a darling.
YOU MUST READ ALL THE RAVEN BOY BOOKS THOUGH. I BEG YOU!!! And argh, Adam’s dad is just arrghghghg. He doesn’t quite get hit by a bus but THINGS DO HAPPEN. I seriously hope Maggie Stiefvater does write a Scorpio Races companion. She kind of hinted she might?!? But I lowkey hope it’s about Finn while Puck and Sean are in the background raising rabid horses and small rabid Irish violent children. <3
Hell to the yes to Sevro being best sidekick of this year. And honestly, best sidekick of ever. I just love him SO much.
And Kaz is definitely the cleverest and Lada the fiercest YA character.
I am still not 100% sure about my best ship or most reletable charcter, it requires deeper thinking….
YES AND YES. There is none better than Sevro honestly. That bit in Morning Star about Sevro that made me looooose my miiiiiind?!? THAT WAS THE BEST.😱🎉🎉 Now to put Kaz, Lada, and Sevro on a team. They’d either save the world gloriously or set it on fire and warm their hands as the world burns. #nice
Cait, I must say I’m becoming severely concerned with your proclivity for stabby-ness and murder babies. So yes they tend to be the best characters and so what if they’re the coolest? That’s no excuse…unless it’s Loki or Magnus Damora or Kylo Ren or…yeah, I’m one to talk. Never mind.
Oh shuuuush, it’s FINE. I’m sure it’s fine. Nothing to worry about here. *flails quietly and stabbily*😇😈😇😈 IT’S NOT MY FAULT THE SASSY ONES ARE ALSO THE PSYCHOS.
Awww this is adorable! Also MAGNUS CHASE YESSSSSS!!! I love this tag so much and it is such an accurate representation of how I feel.
I AM VERY GLAD AND THANK YOU, AUBREY. *gives you cake*
Whoo! So tired, but I can finally comment! 🙂 Because I’ve just done this booktag. I’ve never done a booktag before! But I read this post of yours and I realized it would be fun. A little late, maybe, I’m sure half the internets has already done it xD but I was gonna have fun, and I totally did. Thanks for the idea! 🙂
Btw, I totally agree about AIDAN. I also thought he was a very relatable and strangely… human character.
Too tired to comment properly xD loved the post though!
Aww, I’m so so honoured that you did it!! *flails happily* 😀 And pfft, it’s not late.😂 And at least I’m not partying alone so THAT IS ALSO NICE. And AIDAN was like the actual best thing that ever happened to literature so bless the authors for his existence.
I can finally answer comments quickly now! Like right away! YAY for phone upgrades. Glad we’re partying together then xD I’m also back to twitter now cause I was off for a while. Even more parties!
I’m struggling to remember a character that reminded me of AIDAN when I was reading about him, but I totally can. I’m sure I’ve read about a character quite like that before though. I liked them too. Blasted memory xD
Omo Cait I LAUGHED SO HARD DURING THIS POST. Have you ACTUALLY ever licked those pretty soaps because they look like cake??? I love how you mentioned Kaz//Crooked Kingdom ONLY LIKE SEVEN TIMES OR MORE XD I was actually JUST talking about that book with one of my friends when I started reading this post, so that was extra amusing XD
also your footnotes give me life XD
I WOULDN’T LICK SOAP, LISA, DON’T BE RIDICULOUS. *blinks innocently* Ahem. And yes I mean, I could’ve used another answers, but WHY when I could just keep saying Kaz Kaz Kaz. Bless his little precious evil face.
Ooooh, it’s like I’m READING YOUR MIND. #win
WELL I JUST HAD TO ASK because I’ve been tempted to lick those pretty soap bars too… XD
YES, ALWAYS KAZ. Kaz is the right answer for everything XD
I’m stealing this, FYI. Once I actually have time to blog again WHICH I CURRENTLY DON’T.
Loving these questions, too. AND LARA JEAN IS THE CUTEST DORK. I adore her.
I REALLY DO HOPE YOU STEAL IT BECAUSE THAT WOULD MAKE ME VERY HAPPY. Also the world needs cute adorakable dorks like Lara Jean. She is the best. :’)
OMG KAZ IS SUCH A MORALLY GRAY GRAPE WHO IS DEFINITELY IN NEED OF A NAP. *nods*
And Kady and Ezra’s sass was honestly one of the best parts of Illuminae. Their banter was so clever and well-written – I loved it. And OMG AIDAN is such a relatable character. 😉
I’m definitely going to do this when I’m finished with my final exams! It’s such a fun post and I love your answers and your questions. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3
Basically EVERYTHING about Illuminae was so flawless I just afjdksald I CANNOT EVEN WITH HOW MUCH I LOVED THEM. <3 And omg I'll be so honoured and flaily (shh that's a word) if you do it too, Zoe! THANKS.
This is SO fun! I love it! I will have to steal it I am sure. Soon, I want to post nothing but end of the year wrap ups because… well, because I can. Anyway, I can’t tell how you feel about Kaz 😉 So I shall answer your questions. A) Most relatable… ah. This is hard. I always thought Lara Jean was, in the first book at least. By the second, she is cooler than me for sure hahah. Is it cheating if I went to my own search bar and typed “relatable” in? I don’t care, if so, I like to cheat. ANYWAY, I had a feeling this would be the winner, but Sam in How It Feels to Fly, I related to her SO much.
As for B) No really, it is me who needs a nap. I refuse to allow anyone else a nap if I can’t have one. I need a nap BECAUSE of some of these books (ahem, The Serpent King, which drained me of all the tears I have ever had). Kaz really could use a nap though tbh. Hell, all of those guys needed a solid 10 hours. Poor exhausted criminal babes.
December is all for wrapup kinds of posts, right?! FUN TIMES.😂 I’m looking forward to doing that big end-of-year-survey hosted by the Perpetual Page Turner…if she puts it up WHICH SHE HASN’T SO MILDLY LOWKEY PANICKING. AHEM. I need to share all my reading stats!😂
And it’s like I don’t even THINK about Kaz ever. It’s like I don’t even care. :’)
I do agree that it is you who needs a nap. Maybe 5 naps??? I’m seriously dubious to how you exist without sleeping. JUST SAYIN’.
This was super entertaining. A lot of the books you’ve mentioned are ones that I have recently read or plan to read super soon. AIDAN is the best morally ambiguous little mastermind and Sevro ahhh yes. I am about to read Morning Star and I am not prepared for it!!
OH MORNING STAR IS GREAT. You’re going to have your feels mashed and it’ll be glorious.🎉
THIS POST IS GLORIOUS. Screw the 2016 Goodreads Choice Awards. We’re hosting this thing from now on (my post is in production, to be published next Wednesday on the blog). I thoroughly approve of all of your choices, even though I ended up enjoying Truthwitch, for example.
Behold, my thoughts: Mister Kindly sounds adorable and I must have one. Lada pisses vinegar and should definitely not be messed with under any circumstances. Sevro is a badass little shit and I just bought the sequel Golden Son (to be devoured soon). The Lies of Locke Lamora is the epitome of sass (aka why WHY have I waited so long to read this book), and I think Rhy and Amani deserve their honourable mentions. I also just realized I interpreted the villain category as best villain, so I shall go change the category in my own post (“sneaks off to correct mistakes of speed-reading during work*).
We’re all waiting, dying, waiting, dying, and waiting for the Ronan-centered trilogy.
I’M REALLY EXCITED THAT YOU’RE GOING TO DO IT OMGGGG THANKYOU!! I shall not be partying quite alone now.😂 I should’ve made it a linkup but…duh to me haha. Ahem.
I want a Mister Kindly too. Can we order one online??? Is the Red Church on ebay perhaps? And Sevro is just completely incorrigible and I love him and I think that Locke is my new favourite character IN ALL THE WIDE WORLD THOUGH OMG LIKE I NEED THE SEQUEL SO BAD I ACTUALLY LOST MY MIND 3 DAYS AGO SO THAT’S WHY I’M WILDER THAN USUALLY. *shrieks from the hilltops*
Of course, how could I miss the opportunity of assigning categories to my precious babies? Can’t wait to hear what you think 😉 (You’re also being extensively credited whilst I revel in my vampire theories about you, because isn’t it like 5.55am down under at the most??? You truly are a creature of the night).
I’m putting Mister Kindly on my Christmas wishlist. Next to a talking sword (Sanderson), that is. PRAISE LOCKE LAMORA. I’d marry this foul-mouthed thief with his cute German-Italian name in a heartbeat (omg just had an epiphany because Camorr was clearly Italian-inspired whilst the neighbouring kingdom – forgot the name – struck me as something north-ish, Germany to be exact *brain explodes* Don’t mind me). Seriously can’t wait TO SEE WHAT LOCKE AND JEAN ARE UP TO IN THE NEXT BOOK. Also I desperately want to know his real name *rubs hands*
I bet Locke’s name is something dreadful like Fitzherbert or something and we shall all laugh like Jean did. :’) AND OMG YES I CAN SEE THE GERMAN TOO. Wait what nationality do you think Lucas Fairwhite’s people were based off? Germany? I need to see a map. Does the book have a map? I NEED A MAP. (Only downside of listening to the audio tbh.😜)
Yes. Lara Jean is such a dork and we should be best friend #larajeanprotectionsquad
Plus being best friends with her is like friendship + cookies = there is no downside honestly.
Ooh… might do this…
And, speaking of tags, dear Cait, I tagged you. 🙂
Look on my blog to see your name… 😉
Oh thank you! I’ll go check out the tag right now! 😊
I love love this and I definitely had to steal it, thank you!
Also, I read the Emperor’s Blades last year and totally agree. How on earth is especially this son who’s training to be a soldier still alive? He doesn’t know anything! And makes stupid decisions all the time.
Also, the other one who was supposed to train with those painting monks and was left in a hole for a week! 😀 Unfortunately I forgot all the names. I didn’t like the book very much.
OH GOOD. I’m really glad you’re going to do it too!
OMG I loved The Emperor’s Blade more than words can say. 😂 *flails* Valyn should be 100% dead though, we can all agree. And I don’t even know how Kaden is alive, tbh. Everyone in that book should be dead and also take a nap and I love them.😍
OH CAIT this had me fangirling SO HARD. And I don’t even know why. OKAY. OKAY. I can do this. Maybe because you mentioned Kaz??? And confession….*whispering hushily* ….I still haven’t READ Crooked Kingdoms yet, Awful I KNOW but I can’t stand Matthias dying. In my mind he LIVES so why leave??? I’ll just be up in my mind palace eating and chocolate and crying. Usually I’m disappointed by sequels. BUT I READ THE ROSE AND THE DAGGER AND IT WAS BRILLIANT AND I SHIPPED EVERYTHING SO HARD IT’S CRAZY.
OH STAHP PROCRASTINATING AND READ CROOKED KINGDOM. IT’S WONDERFUL AND YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. OKAY MAYBE YOU WILL A LITTLE BIT IT’S WONDERFUL.💔 I get disappointed by sequels a lot too, but at least CK was awesome. I need to read The Rose and the Dagger so bad omg.🙈🙊
Yes to all The Serpent King, Raven Cycle, and Scorpio Races mentions! I haven’t read the Six Of Crows duology, Red Rising books, or the Half Bad trilogy yet, but I am sure I will agree. Annemieke has me convinced I need to read Timekeeper now that I know it doesn’t involve time travel. Ha ha. And yes, I think I will do this tag! 🙂
Timekeeper is soooo adorable omg I insist you read it too. Trust Annemieke!! SHE KNOWS!! 😂 And omg Six of Crows is so precious and exciting and sassy and stabby. It’s like Leigh Bardugo wrote it just for me BLESS HER.
This is so random and unique, yet I cannot stop myself from wanting to do this challenge.
OH GOOD. Random is basically my middle name.😂
Haha. That is a nice middle name then.
AAAH. Okay, from this list the book I NEED TO READ ARE: 1. Magnus Chase 2. ADSOM 3. EVERYTHING ELSE (?)
Also, THE SERPENT KING. OH GOD. HOW. WHY. HEART = BROKEN.
I’m Definitely going to be doing the tag, and I will definitely be crediting you because you’re AWESOME. Maybe we should give you some Cake?
THE SERPENT KING IS ACTUALLY EVERYTHING BUT ALSO I’M DAMAGED SO MUCH NOW. *sobs* 💔💔
Definitely give me cake *nods* and I can’t wait to read your version of the tag!!
Jesper’s dad was the best!!! And Mr. Parrish really was the worst. I feel the same way about Truthwitch as what you wrote- not impressed at all. Crooked Kingdom deserves all of the awards!! They really are horrible but so lovable. And gosh, ship of the year is always the worst category to choose on anything ever. Impossible.
Jesper’s dad was actually the most amazing thing ever. And I love how Jesper was so much taller than him but like was still the little boy when his dad was around IT WAS JUST THE BEST.😂 MY PRECIOUS HORRIBLE SIX OF CROWS CHILDREN. <3
Ooh I totally stole this and used it as my first tag ever! So much fun, thank you for making this 😉
OH THIS IS GLORIOUS NEWS I AM SO GLAD. *gives you cake*
OHMAN. This tag is brilliant and I am COMPLETELY doing it. You are an absolute genius. This is a great way to wrap up the year without giving people a super boring list. <3
I sadly haven't read most of the books you referenced, though! 🙁 That's okay– it just means my TBR needs to grow and I must read FASTER. Faster and faster and faster. But I did read Illuminae, and I love AIDAN completely. You are 100% correct.
I’M SO INFINITELY GLAD YOU LIKE IT!! *flails* 🎉🎉 And your TBR is most welcome for all these delightful editions to it. :’) I mean omg I’ve read SO MANY books this year but I still feel entirely behind.
AIDAN is the best thing of ever honestly.😍
Right?! I constantly feel like I’m fighting to catch up. It’s a shame, really. So many good books, so little time! Particularly when people are raving so much about so many of them. It’s been a GREAT year for books. At least 2016 had that going for it. 🙂
Such a great tag! I don’t think I’ve been by this blog before (well, I kind of dropped off the face of blogging world for a while, so no surprise), but you’re lots of fun! My full tag is here: http://williamshsj.blogspot.com/2016/12/the-dashing-smashing-2016-character.html
1. MOST RELATABLE CHARACTER
Kaladin from The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson. Having just watched It’s A Wonderful Life, I muse that Kaladin is really a sort of George Baily man in fantasy literature. It’s not his life that’s relatable, not in the slightest…..it’s how he responds to it. I think that’s what makes him such a compelling and beloved character….he’s not perfect in the slightest: he’s depressed, angry, prejudiced…..but he’s also noble, sometimes even against his own judgement. I can just see Syl saying, “You’ve been given a wonderful gift, Kaladin….don’t you see what a shame it would be to throw it away?”
19. MOST IN NEED OF A NAP
Charlie from The Lady and the Lionheart. Sir…..you trot about from town to town with a circus, wrassle around with your lion friends, father and care for your beloved baby niece, run a small church, and at nights when the circus is in town, sacrifice yourself in a nightmarish and soul-taxing event all for the sake of said beloved baby niece. WHEN DO YOU SLEEP? Oh that’s right, in the very sweet little nap scene the author gave through the hospitality of the sweet heroine. Thank you, dear author, for satisfying Charlie’s needs……and also the reader’s.
Also, Sir Eanrin from The Tales of Goldstone Wood……because while you may be a sassy and awesome faerie knight…..you are also a cat. And every cat needs a nap basically whenever they can get it.
Oh thanks for stopping by the blog and doing my tag, Hannah! YOU ARE SO NICE. And I haven’t read The Stormlight Archives yet, but I will. 😜 I’m currently reading The Well of Ascension actually!! (Steelheart is my favuorite series by Brandon Sanderson so far though.😍)
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! 🙂
Yes, oh gosh, just wait till you read The Stormlight Archives…..it’s incredible. Also, you may not have noticed that a series called The Tales of Goldstone Wood was prevalent among my choices for favorites……I know you must get SO many recommendations that don’t turn out all the time, but I have to recommend them anyway….I know very few book geeks who don’t absolutely fall in love with this series….gorgeously written, super clean (absolutely no sexytimes as you call it, lol), but also epic……if you are dissuaded by the front covers, don’t be, lol……the stuff inside is so much better. 😀
SEVRO, MY PRECIOUS! Yes! I love Sevro. But sssh. Don’t tell him that. He kind of makes me think of a viking beserker, and if Red Rising wasn’t already based on Roman myth, I would insist that he’s a beserker. But what do I know? Still, I really need to finish the Red Rising trilogy. It’s so good.
And what is up with Parrish’s father? No. That is not right.
So I’ve actually not read most of these books. But I really want to now. Especially Six of Crows and the rest of Red Rising. And the Scorpio Races, and maybe Serpent King too. Also this tag rocks! I might have to thieve it.
Sevro is beserk so I accept that he’s a beserker.😂
ADAM’S FATHER BELONGS IN PRISON HE IS EVIL. *protects Adam at all costs*
I’m so glad you liked the tag though and you’re definitely welcome to thieve it. 🙂
