The most dastardly calamity a bookworm faces is death by TBR.
Bookworms don’t want an extra day in the weekend for reading — bookworms want IMMORTALITY because their TBR is the size of the Galapagos Islands. This is the truth. I SEE IT IN YOUR EYES.
As a nice and helpful blogger what I really should do is give you a list of ways to stay alive despite your TBR giving you the death glare and growing without permission. BUT I AM NOT A NICE BLOGGER. I am an evil overlord in progress. I am about to list a gazillion YA 2016 releases you know you need so very badly. Trying to afford them is a woeful downside. You’ll probably have to sell your furniture or your sister or a spleen or two. (I’m aware you only have one. It doesn’t have to be just your spleen is what I’m saying…)
DON’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED OF THIS POST’S EVIL INTENTIONS.
Today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is “Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The Second Half Of The Year“ because I already tortured you with lists of books earlier this year. So here are MORE. And I’m not going to list the obvious ones. I mean, HECK YES WE’RE ALL WAITING FOR GEMINA AND HEARTLESS. So let’s explode your TBR with the less known delightful gems. Get ready to sell your spleen.
ALSO THERE WILL BE MORE THAN 10 BECAUSE I’M LOKI AND DO WHAT I WANT.
As proved by last week’s TTT…fantasy is my favourite thing of ever. So obviously this section has the most terribly wondrous excitement from me.
- NEVERNIGHT: This is about assassins and it actually sounds like THERE WILL BE ASSASSINING. So that’s good news. (Wait…did I just say that…) [August]
- THE ARCHITECT OF SONG: I am such a wild rabid fan of AG Howard’s splintered series so do I want her new (New Adult, by the way)? HECK YES. It promises ghostly companions (!!!) and a deaf protagonist (!!!) (which sound a lot like my wattpad story honestly, so I’m 100% down for this). [August]
- THREE DARK CROWNS: This is about sisters who are queens who are fighting for one crown. I LOVE THAT. Sibling rivalry! Always relatable! Always…in good…fun? [September]
- SCYTHE: I mostly want this because NEAL SHUSTERMAN GOODNESS, but also because it’s about the grim reaper having apprentices basically. Who can say no to that? [November]
- MAGIC BITTER MAGIC SWEET: It’s about MAGICAL BAKING!!! This speaks to me on a spiritual level already. Finally someone is giving cake the magical recognition it deserves! [June]
- THE QUEEN OF BLOOD: Despite a horrendous cover — this sounds really epic. The blurb promises spirits that hate humans (#relatable) and also royalty and magical wars and just all the good ol’ stuff. [September]
- A SHADOW BRIGHT AND BURNING: This features a girl who can burst into flames set in Victorian London with demons. YAY GOOD TIMES. [September]
- TIMEKEEPER: It’s an alternate Victorian London controlled by two clock towers. Doesn’t that sound exciting? EXCITING. Plus the protagonist is a mechanic and the blurb says it’s for vans of VE Schwab. Sign me up like NINE TIMES, PLEASE. [November]
I’m actually kind of glad the retellings haven’t completely vanished. I WOULD MISS THEM. I do so love a delectable retelling. Especially for underloved fairy tales!
- FROST: It’s pitched as “Cinder meets The Walking Dead” and I want it. [October]
- SPINDLE: A retelling of Sleeping Beauty! We so do not have enough of those! (Or…any?) [October]
- VASSA IN THE NIGHT: Russian! Folklore! Retelling! That is all I need to say, isn’t it?! RUSSIA. Plus witches and creeptastic talking dolls and I really have no idea why you’re still here and not eating the cover. Go on now. [September]
- KINGDOM OF ASH AND BRIARS: The blurb promises supernatural warfare and a girl who is a shapeshifter. She disguises herself as a guy to get into the army and also as a fairy godmother. SIMULTANEOUSLY? WE CANNOT KNOW. Oh. And the blurb says it “pays homage to Mulan”. #need [September]
I’m not the world’s keenest contemporary reader. BUT I DO LIKE IT ON OCCASION and these sound particularly like my sort of thing.
- ENTER TITLE HERE: This is about a WRITER. I AM A WRITER. Do you see why I need this?! [August]
- THE MEMORY BOOK: This is about a girl losing her memory from a rare genetic condition. AKA THIS IS MY BIOGRAPHY. (I’m kidding. I don’t have a rare genetic condition…I just have no memory. Who even are you again?) [July]
- THE SECRET SCIENCE OF MAGIC: This could actually be magical realism BUT I CAN’T TELL. So here I’ll stuff it. It’s about an anxious math prodigy — do you need hear anymore?! [September]
- TELL ME SOMETHING REAL: This is about three sisters and I adore sisterly books. And also the protagonist is a pianist and there’s a mystery sickness???? Whatever. I’m in. [August]
- THIS IS OUR STORY: Girl detective investigating a hunting trip where 5 boys left and 4 came back and 1 is definitely dead? YAY MURDER, JOHN! [November]
- THE FEMALE OF THE SPECIES: This one also promises murder (as all god thrillers do) and also PUPPIES because the protagonist works in a shelter. This can only be good. [September]
- THE ROW: Because I quite like this author and who can say no to a book about death’s row and family secrets? Also the blurb doesn’t even mention a love-interest so FINGERS CROSSED we can always hope. [October]
- THIEVING WEASELS: It’s a con artist book. A CON ARTIST BOOK. Grifters and con artists and a family of criminals. YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF MY LEVELS OF NEED. [August]
SOME IDIOT (aka: me) STARTED LOOKING AT 2017 RELEASES AND OH DEAR, LET ME WAIL. I need them, like, yesterday. 2017 is going to slay with books. I PROMISE YOU THAT. Now suffer with me.
- UNTITLED BY JODIE MEADOWS: All I’m going to say is “DRAGON TRAFFICKING” and now you know you need it 10000%.
- GILDED CAGE: A magical London where you have to be enslaved for 10 years to magicians?! PLUS: sister and brother duo. Need need need neeeeeeed.
- THE PRINCE’S BANE: Sirens and pirates and things and this is written by A BLOGGER (of whom I’ve beta read other of her writing and can 1000% guarantee she is exceptional).
- LONG MAY SHE REIGN: A shy nerdy scientist SUDDENLY BECOMES QUEEN after the entire court is assassinated. My excitement levels for this is probably unhealthy. BUT I DON’T CARE.
- EVEN THE DARKEST STARS: Set in a fictional Himalayan kingdom!! How entirely spectacular does that sound, right?!?!?!??
- DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING: Piiiiiiiirates. PIRATES! PIRATES! I mean, buried treasure and battles of wits are promised, but whatever. Piiiiiiiirates.
- THE BONE WITCH: I loved the author’s previous book and omg the blurb starts with a sister “accidentally” raising her brother from the dead. Fun times.
- THE CRUEL PRINCE: I love love love Holly Black and I’VE READ ALL HER BOOKS SO FAR AND AM IN WANTING. Hence 2017 cannot come fast enough basically. I have needs for dark faerie princes that stab things and all that. #ISwearImNormal
Oh COOL, those sound so good. Dragon Trafficking? Lemme read it! And those titles are just screaming to be read. Yes, more epic books for the tbr! *drowns in the mountain of unread books*
ZOMG, I KNOW RIGHT?!?!?! DRAGGGGONS. I will sign myself up immediately for any and every book with dragons in it. *flails with anticipation.
And I thought I was taming my TBR down to the size of a mildly large mammoth…
Now I shall have to consume ALLLLL the fantasies and pre-order those 2017 books. Can you even find out if books come out in 2019??? Wow. I feel like listing those is a kind of slow torture. XD Also, the sleeping Beauty retelling reminded of one I recently read called ‘A Wicked Thing’ about what happens after she wakes up. I really liked it. Have you read it? 🙂
A mildly large mammoth. :’) What a grand description. Mine is to Jupiter and back and I HAVE GIVEN UP ALL HOPE OF CONTROLLING IT. I’M JUST HOPING IT DOESN’T CRUSH ME NOW, IS ALL. But zomg 2017 is going to be THE YEAR of amazing fantasies, right?!?! Where is a time machine. I NEED ONE. I haven’t read A Wicked Thing! But I feel like I’ve heard of it?!? I need to check it out clearly.😂
Fantasy:
I NEED Nevernight and A Shadow Bright and Burning and I have Scythe (mhuahaha). I have seen a lot of people DNF Three Dark Crowns which saddens me. I will lower my expectations when I get to my eARC of that one.
Retellings:
I don’t know the other three, but I have a copy of Vassa in the Night and I’m excited for it! 😀
Contemporary:
I haven’t actually seen these before except the last one, which I requested on edelweiss or netgalley. IDK which one. maybe both.
Thriller:
I actually have The Female of the Species and I’m so excited for it! 😀
2017 releases:
Also have some of these. The author’s “review” of The Bone Witch made me add it to my TBR hah. xD Also, you should add Becky Albertalli’s new book. Just sayin.
I’m glad you did that WWW of Scythe because I got approved for the eARC after that!😂 YOU ARE WONDERFUL. And oohhh, that’s sadness about Three Dark Crowns. *wails* I had high hopes. 🙁 And weeeeell, don’t spear me, but I have looked at the blurb of Becky Albertalli’s new book and it honestly didn’t appeal to me at all.😂 I’ll wait for reviews!
Actually the author of long May She Reign, Rhiannon Thomas’s other books, A Wicked Thing and Kingdom of Ashes are about Sleeping beauty…after she wakes up. I’m so excited for Our Chemical Hearts (it will feed my high-scho newspaper editor heart), Vassa in the Night (because the author’s other series was great) and This Savage Song. Also GOLDENHAND. (The cover is a thing of beauty and I am happy.
THIS SAVAGE SONG IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I CAN 100% ATTEST TO IT’S AMAZINGNESS. VE Schwab can do no wrong probably. *weeps because needs all her books like yesterday*
Great list, Cait! This is the second list I’ve seen Three Dark Crowns, and as one of three sisters myself I may have to check it out…
DEFINITELY DO! You never know when you might develop magic powers and need to take out a sister or two. Ahem. I mean, NO OF COURSE NOT. LOVE OUR SISTERS.
CAIT DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY GOODREADS TABS I HAVE OPEN NOW? DO YOU??
I neeeeeeed these in my life. And apparently it’s my birthday next week (WHAT? That snuck up quickly) so I’m going to do some pre-ordering as a present to myself. *nods* Sounds like a fantastic idea.
HAHAHAHAH I just went on Goodreads and saw how many you’d added. *self five*😂
DUDE. YOU’RE GETTING OLD. I’m still too scared to pre-order in case I read a ton of bad reviews. Buuuuut…I have like lists and lists of sticky notes on my walls with books I needed, like, yesterday. :’)
So…. You basically just squashed me under my TBR!! I don’t know how I am going to get through this list! Lol great list 🙂
YOU’RE WELCOME FOR THIS GLORIOUS LIST IN YOUR LIFE. But seriously we need 388 more hours in our days, right?!😂
I am questioning whether sleep is truly necessary or whether I can skip out on it!!😂😂
You warned me and I thought me willpower was strong but obviously not for books *adds a million books to TBR*. On the positive side, I’m really pumped for the new releases for the rest of this year (so much fantasy) *squeals*. They ALL sound so epic and stabby (well except the contemporary ones… but you never know). How do you find all these hidden gems?!?! I spy a lot of ultimatum books this year, AKA kill or be killed – I do like the premise of Three Dark Crowns (I happen to have 2 sisters) hehehe. Awesome list as always – I will forgive you for listing 2017 releases in exchange for an abundance of cake.
AJFDLKASD YESSSS. The fantasy levels are amazing! And unique! Like some of these premises just have me dyyyying with anticipation for the gloriousness. I hope they’re as good on the insides as they promise.😂 I don’t even know how I found them all?! I see what my friends add on Goodreads a lot! 😛
I have 4 sisters…BUT I’M READY TO TAKE LESSONS FROM THREE DARK CROWNS. Ahem. I mean, no. Of course not. I am super nice. *crowns self anyway*
*sprinkles cake crumbs in your hair* HOW IS THIS? BETTER?
Cait, you just made my uncontrollable TBR even more uncontrollable!
But, thank you so much! Uncontrollable TBR’s are LIFE!
YOU’RE WELCOME. I DID WARN YOU THIS POST WAS EVIL.😂
*adds ALL books to TBR*
*runs like hell to avoid being toppled over*
*looks at books in disarray*
Okay… I need to trade my soul for immortality…where’s the demon summoning book?
This is basically MY LIFE EXACTLY. We’re all drowning in books. Omg. The publishers need to calm and give us a chance to catch up…except…I WANT ALL THE BOOKS NOW SO THAT WON’T WORK AND AGH. BOOKISH IDENTITY CRISIS.
MY HEAD JUST EXPLODED READING ALL OF THIS!!! I think I’m excited for Timekeeper and This Is Our Story the most. I love the idea of a good thriller! I’m just hoping it won’t end like how The Leaving did (I checked the ending out and ugh it’s so frustrating when I read a perfectly good contemporary / thriller then it turns sci fi. Not cool.)
And you should be proud, I stuffed The Dead Boy and The Paper Cut story to all of my friends’ faces! They say they’ve heard of it so CAIT YOU ARE FAMOUS!!!!!
Ugh, I don’t like the thriller-turns-sci-fi thingie. IT JUST MAKES ME MAD. And disbelieving. Which isn’t a fun way to end a book.😂 But ahhhh Timekeeper though, right?!? I CANNOT WAIT. It’s reminding me of Hugo Cabret a bit! 😀
ZOMGGGGG. REALLY?!?! *hugs you and feeds you cake* But but wait. They’d already heard of it? I AM SO FREAKISHLY EXCITED RIGHT NOW. AHHHHHH. LET ME FLAIL FOR ALLL THE MILLIONS OF YEARs. *twirls majestically*
Oh Cait… What did you do to me. I hadn’t heard of (almost all) these books so my TBR shelf over at goodreads you grew a few inches… I put every single one on there haha.
The only ‘upcoming’ release I can think off that you might like is The Gatlon School for Vigilantes. And I say ‘upcoming’ because it’s another 2017 release muahahaha
BECAUSE I’M A CRUEL EVIL OVERLORD, I DID WARN YOU UPFRONT. *collapses under wishlist of needful books* I’m pretty sure my Goodreads TBR is going to explode when I read everyone else’s posts.😂 I’m trying to be sorry — but I’M SO NOT. OMG I LOVE BOOKS.
Oooh, I’m looking up this Gatlon School for Vigilantes. THAT SOUNDS LIKE EXACTLY MY KINDA THING.
Oh dear lord! You did warn me but I thought I could control myself but apparently not *adds all the books to my 600+ tbr*
*gross sobbing*
I DO hate you for listing the 2017 releases but I also love you for it. :/
I AM THE CRUELEST WITH THE 2017. I DO NOT DENY IT. *sobs wildly with you*
*incoherent noises* I’M SO READY FOR THESE. And omg yayyyyyy I’m so glad you’re excited for The Architect of Song because omg I need more Howard in my life – WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JANUARY FOR ROSEBLOOD (totes already pre-ordered it #KeenBean). Seriously though, there are exactly no online shops selling it?? CAIT please tell me you know where/how we can get a copy of Architect of Song *sobs*
Also, that gif of John and Sherlock *dies*. BUT yet another thing we have to wait for!! *falls into Sherlock-less pit of misery*. I thought I was really on the ball until you hit the retellings section because there were TWO there I hadn’t heard of and then 2017 needs to come right now because I ain’t waiting that long. Uh-UH.
I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO GET A COPY OF ARCHITECT OF SONG. I just panicked because none of the Aussie retailers seem to be selling it. I NEED IT IN MY HANDS, THOUGH. PLEASE TELL ME IT’S NOT JUST A KINDLE BOOK OR I’LL DIE. *frets wildly*
2017 needs to come immediately. Except for the part where I’ll be older and BEING OLD IS SCARY. So maybe perhaps we can just duck forward, grab the books, and then come back in time??? This will work perfectly.
I have over 1200 books on my tablet that I haven’t read yet, and a couple of bookshelves that are overflowing with scrumptious new additions. What’s a few more? Heaven that’s what! Thanks for the wonderful list of upcoming books :).
OMG THE TBR IS OUT TO EAT US. I KNOW IT IS. *cries* But I guess since we’re already drowning in books we might as well keep adding, right? *nods* This is wise. This can’t possibly backfire.
you had me at magical baking too!
(MAGIC BITTER MAGIC SWEET:)
MAGICAL BAKING JUST CALLS TO US ALL. AHHHH. (Also I just found out it’s Read Now on netgalley if you’re signed up for that! :D)
Thanks for giving me more books, that are still to be released, to look forward to. My TTT only had 4 books. If I’d make a new one, It would probably have a few more books now. Thanks. Cait! 😀
Most welcome!!😂 We just need a time machine to dash ahead and get these now, right??!
Yeah, wouldn’t that be great. 🙂
I literally just added 99% of these books to my TBR on goodreads. WHYYY. I will never be able to read all of these books. *stares in terror at TBR*
I TOLD YOU THIS POST WAS BAD NEWS. I TOOOOOLD YOU. *runs screaming from own ginormous TBR*
Yeah I know, but I can’t NOT read your posts!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are just so freaking awesome.
AHHHH THANKYOU😂 THIS REALLY MAKES ME HAPPY OMG. *sprinkles cake crumbs in your hair*
So I just came home from shopping books, read your post and now I want to buy some of the above mentioned precious creatures. Oops. ^-^’ I was already looking forward to Three Dark Crowns, Scythe and Vassa in the Night. The said newly desired creatures are; Frost and Long May She Reign (omg, this sounds so awesome! *-*). Thanks for listing them! 🙂 The bad thing is now I will be anxiously waiting to get my greedy hands on them. *sigh*
2019?! Please, have mercy! 2017/18 are already full of fabulous new releases. And then there are the threateningly high piles of yet un-read books in my room… *tries not to panic*
I HEAR YA WITH THE STRUGGLES.😂 ME TOO. I just want to devour them all immediately. Ahhhh TIME GO FASTER!! (But omg I know right?! 2019 is TOO FAR AWAY. Goodreads needs to not tantalise me like that.😂)
Immediately and simultaneously! One should be able to read one book with the left and another with right eye! XD
And 2019 is way to far! The temptation… o_O
OMG ABSOLUTELY YES. It would be so much handier. And also if we could listen to an audiobook at the same time. *nods* That’d get 3 books read in the time of 1 and we would be ON FIRE.
A yey to multitasking! XD
So many books I wish I could have right now! The wait is like the worlds version of bookish torture, ughhhhh. A.G. Howard needs to get her books out, I’ve needed something from her since Ensnared and that feels like ages ago. And I mean, don’t get me started on my starvation for some of the books coming out in 2017. These people really know how to get to me and my sanity. lol
YES IT IS TORTURE. *sobs* Especially when they’re so so far away (the 2017 ones are just cruel, honestly) and zomg it does feel like forever since we had an AG Howard book. Although we did get Untamed in December 2015 so THAT was relief. But it was too short! WE NEE DMORE. <3
Wow, there are so many I’ve never heard about but yes to “Kingdom of Ash and Briars” and “This Is Our Story”. They sound like they’re straight up my alley!! Eeeep, so exciting!
Yayyyyy I’m glad this list was helpful! And omg don’t they just sound divine?!?!? I NEED THEM IN MY HANDS ALREADY. *taps foot impatiently*
For fans of VE Schwab and cinder meets The Walking Dead?! I need them now! Great picks!
I KNOW RIGHT?!?!? That pitch is just too golden. :’)
…I think my TBR just doubled in size…
YOU ARE SO VERY WELCOME. I KNOW YOU LOVE ME SO. :’)
OMG MAGICAL BAKING. I almost didn’t believe you because it sounded too good to be true but then I saw the Goodreads page and MAGICAL BAKING!! The cover itself is so yummy that I just want to eat it right now. I hadn’t heard of this book until now and OMG I want it so badly because MAGICAL BAKING <3
I KNOW RIGHT?!??!?! MAGICAL BAKING = SIGN ME UP IMMEDIATELY. (Also I don’t know if you’re on Netgalley, but it’s a read now title!! *SHRIEKS*)
*runs to NetGalley*
That’s a very thorough (ahem…long) list…..No wonder you’re talking about dying from your Tbr. I’ll check out some of those though not all because Lord help me. i also included 2017+ titles because why not haha. I’ve put a twist to my post this week. Check it out here http://www.curious-daisy.com/top-ten-tuesday/ten-book-releases-im-looking-forward-to/ Happy reading!!
Shhhh, we’re pretending it still fits for top ten tuesday.😂 #lies
jesus, these aren’t ten, these are 100. Of course there are some that are on my list as well, I mean you mentioned pretty much all exciting releases! 😀 The 2017 ones make me super curious, I haven’t heard of most of them yet! I’d legitimately die for a copy of Three Dark Crowns. The other day was the UK cover reveal, and there are going to be THREE covers, I’m dyingggg
YES I KNOW. I TOLD YOU I LIED ABOUT MAKING IT A TOP TEN TUESDAY. But this is what happens when one is queen of all. No rules.
Wait wait three covers?! THAT’S REALLY CLEVER. But wait, what if it’s awesome and we want to collect them all?! #dead
ooooo Definitely adding Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet to my TBR continent. And BONUS – there’s a goodreads giveaway going on right now for it! Hooray! 😀
Spindle looks good as well. My fave Sleeping Beauty retelling to date is The Healer’s Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson, just FYI
My TTT
AND EVEN MORE BONUS: it’s read-now on Netgalley!! I just downloaded it and I’m so so excited. *flails* 😂
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! *much flailing commences*
Oh. Oh look. There goes the tbr shelf. Crashing down. Killing a small child. Great.
*quietly eats a sandwich while watches the tragedy* So sad. So much pain. *piles more books on your head*
AHHHHHH I forgot about the new Neal Shusterman book! He needs to slow down so I can catch up >__< my goal to read all his books is failing miserably so far because he keeps writing them faster than I can read. Grim reaper things are amazing though! I have high expectations. Though in truth I also hope that cover spontaneously gets better. Or more bleedy. Something!
Hahahah, YES. Omg I need to read more Shusterman. I’ve actually only read 3 of his books, I have no idea why I haven’t read the rest!? THEY’RE ALWAYS EPIC AND I LOVE THEM. *nods*
I need a lot of these books on my bookshelf right now! Especially Magic Bitter Magic Sweet, and Female of the Species! Great list!
YAYYYY. We clearly have epic taste in books, amirite?! *hi fives*
This is the first time I’ve ever seen Spindle but of course it’s on my TBR now because FAIRYTALES. I just saw Jodi at an event this week and Brodi Ashton gave a quick blurb of Jodi’s upcoming book and I DIED. THE DRAGON TRAFFICKING, CAIT. SAVE ME FROM THE PAINFUL WAIT I WISH I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS.
FAIRY TALES ARE AMAZING. And zomgggg lucky you for meeting Jodi Meadows! I’m in LOVE with The Orphan Queen (and I just bought the Mirror King EEEP). I need more dragons. I need infinite dragons.
I am literally dying from the need to read all of these. I saved this page and set a reminder for myself at the end of the year to check out EVERY SINGLE ONE. I must have all these.
*stares at my TBR pile glaring at me* Oh stop it, I do what I want.
Yes be Loki. DON’T LET THAT TBR WIN OVER YOUR NEEDS. *watches as it falls on your head*
You’ll be fine.
Oh Cait why?!?! I was trying not to grow my TBR any more but I suppose that was a futile attempt to begin with. I now need Timekeeper and I don’t normally like contemporaries but I must read the one about the writer because I’m a writer too!!! It might finally be a contemporary that I can relate to.
So you think you’re cruel with the 2017 releases, do you?!?! Well how about a book THAT DOESN’T EVEN HAVE A PROPER DATE FOR IT’S RELEASE YET, HUH?!?! Is anyone else waiting for “The Returned” by Victoria Schwab with as much pain and tears as I am?! I NEED TO KNOW THAT I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO’S BEEN WAITING OVER 2 YEARS FOR THIS BOOK. *sobs in a corner* Her other books are great but why does no one talk about these ones anymore? I need answers! ( please help )
BECAUSE I’M HORRIBLE. But I did warn you up front *nods* *watches your TBR collapse on your head* And omg I’m not a huge contemporary fan either but THESE ARE LIKE LIFFFFFE. And books about writers always win me over. :’) (Have you read The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson by any chance?? It has a writer in it!!)
AND I KNOW I’M CRUEL BUT LOOK, I’M NOT EVEN SORRY. (I’m waiting for ALL the Schwab books of ever. Neeeeeeed.)
No I have not but I think I will read it now!
I need to just bookmark this page so I can come back and reference it. Who knew The Female of the Species had puppies – you sold me on that (even thought I think I already have it on my TBR). I agree with dragon trafficking. And definitely sign me up for a sister who raises her brother from the dead. Your list ROCKS!
Any book with puppies CALLS TO ME. <3 And AHHHHH I'm glad we're excited about the same books. WE HAVE GRAND TASTE.
GAH! SO MANY GOOD BOOKS COMING OUT THIS YEAR!! Yes to Scythe, Three Dark Crowns, Nevernight and Kingdom of Ash and Briar!! I need them all 😀 Awesome selection here^^ and don’t even get me started on those darn 2017 releases *sigh*
Yesss, this year is being SO VERY GRAND for books!!! And next year promises to be even better omg. :’)
CAIT NO! Dang you I was starting to get my 2000+ TBR under control. 😀 But seriously this looks amazing. That cover on The Bone Witch?!?!!!! I need it. I need it now.
OMG I KNOW RIGHT?!?!? I just want to devour that cover.😍
Same babe same. 😀
So many great books! I’m adding them all to my TBR and I don’t mind one bit 🙂
YAYYY. Your TBR will be monstrously happy, I’M SURE.
SO MANY BOOKS! Definitely going to check ALL the fantasies and retellings. And probably contemporaries, and thrillers. And 2017 releases too, Because why not? There can never be enough books! And if you ever find the secret to immortality, let me know. I want in on that too. But I don’t think it’ll be enough, because books are coming out faster than I can finish them!
I like how you think *nods* There CAN never be enough books. WE MIGHT AS WELL START LOOKING FOR THE 2018 AND 2019 BOOKS TOO. WHAT CAN IT HURT. *collapses howling under wanting* Ahem.
I DO hate you! (Isn’t that sweet?) The ones that stood out for me were MAGICAL BAKING and a London controlled by clocktowers! I’m imagining the clocktowers are called, like, Baz and Gerry, and have chats over cups of tea. “The mortals are being annoying today, aren’t they, Baz?” “Too right they are, Gerry! Shall we give them Monday morning twice over? Get to noon and then turn back to 7am?” “Great idea, Baz!” And they laugh manically and clink their giant teacups over Trafalgar Square.
Heck, why aren’t /I/ writing this book??
PS It is SO SO SO SO exciting that a blogger-you-know’s book is getting published!!!!! Ashley (insert title here) and I were talking about this recently. How in years to come, we’ll see books and be like “oooh she used to be / is my internet friend!” Practically famous amirite?
I DO HATE YOU. I’M THE NICEST. RIP TO YOU UNDER YOUR TBR. :’) Also I don’t know if you do ARCs on Netgalley but the magical baking book is up there for read-now!! *flails* BUT YES TO THE CLOCKS I NEED MORE CLOCKS IN MY LIFE. IT’S GONNA BE LIKE HUGO CABRET ALL OVER AGAIN AND GLORIOUS. Ahem.
Please go write that book. Now now.
AND YES! Omg I know 2 bloggers now who’ve got books out or have books coming out. IT’S SO EXCITING. :’)
Oh Cait, my TBR just killed me because of you, but that’s okay, it’s the bookworm life after all, haha. But well, it’s a good thing, because in December, sometimes I feel a bit sad because I feel like I’ve read all the releases I was most excited for, you know? So maybe it’ll avoid me this blues. *fingers crossed*
You listed so many books OMG, I was excited for all the fantasy novels you talked about already, because fantasy is the best genre, I agree with you.
I’m also pretty excited for so many 2017 releases, I can see that I’m not the only one! Can we skip the rest of 2016 to go in 2017 yet? We’re halfway done anyway! 🙂
RIP TO YOU, LUCIE. I’d be sorry, but I’m really not because boooooooks. Ahem. Fantasy IS The best and clearly we both have our priorities in order *hi fives* And YES. It’s always nice to start 2017 (WHICH IS ONLY 6 MONTHS AWAY OMG) knowing there are a gazillion books to buy and flail over. :’) GOOD TIMES.
So many fun upcoming books! I really want to read Timekeeper as well. It sounds amazing.
-Lauren
Yesssss!! And isn’t the cover gorgeous?!😍 I need it like YESTERDAY.
No no no, don’t make me look at 2017. I won’t do it. I’m only just barely clinging on already!
COVER YOUR EYES. RESIST THE TEMPTATION OF PURE INSANITY WHILE WAITING.
Gah there are so many books in here I hadn’t heard of and now want to read!! Your post worked(; The cover for A Shadow Bright and Burning is gorgeous, and I love the sound of Vassa in the Night…so much so that I added it to goodreads straight after this post. I’m looking forward to The Dark Days Pact, which is the sequel to The Dark Days Club, but it comes out in 2017 which is so far away!
MWAHAHAHA MY DASTARDLY PLANS TO EXPLODE YOUR TBR ARE WORKING.🎉 Ohh I haven’t read The Dark Days Club yet BUT I NEED TO!!
YES TO ALL OF THESE. Three Dark Crowns and Enter Title Here are two of my most anticipated books too Cait! Hopefully they end up being as amazing as they sound! 🙂 And This is Our Story and The Memory Book sound really intriguing as well. xD Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous choices! <3
YESSSS I hope they are as good as they sound!! (Although someone just told me a ton of reviewers were DNF’ing Three Dark Crowns *sobs* BUT WE CAN HOPE FOR THE BEST RIGHT?!??! *fingers crossed*)
CAIT MY TBR PILE IS EVEN BIGGER NOW BUT THANK YOU BECAUSE THESE SOUND SO GOOD!!! I can’t believe I didn’t know about A.G. Howard’s new book! I know about her Phantom of the Opera retelling which comes out next year and I am SO EXCITED FOR THAT ONE TOO. All the retellings you listed look SO GOOD especially the Russian folklore one squee!
BUT YOU’RE HAPPY. I CAN SEE IT IN YOUR EYES. (Um, that…doesn’t work on the internet but JUST PRETEND IT DOES.) But zomg I cannot wait for ALL the AG Howard books!! I feel like maybe she’s doing The Architect Song via indie press??? I’m not sure. It’s just coming out SO SOON and I haven’t seen any thing about it! I STILL WANT IT BADLY.
THANKS FOR MAKING ME ADD TOO MANY BOOKS TO MY TBR, CAIT!
YOU’RE WELCOME. DON’T DIE UNDER THE NEW MOUNTAIN OF BOOKS. #helpful
Three Dark Crowns, Vassa in the night + A shadow Bright and burning – those are definitely my most anticipated books so far. It’s Fantasy and Fairytale retellings all the way for me!
… Although I fear all these new books means so many others of my TBR pile will be forgotten about it. I think I may go lose myself on a desert island for a few months. I don’t see any other way to decrease my reading pile.
great post! Thanks for sharing!
YESSSS. Anything and everything fantasy is doomed to be delicious. *Devours everything*
Lose yourself on a desert island with a really really good library full of current releases. *nods* ALSO CAN I COME TOO????
All of the fantasy books I want to read. Especially the Jay Kristoff book. I love assassin’s and I feel like I need more books with them. None of the 2017 books I’m really interested in. I really want to read Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas that is my most anticpated right now. I didn’t know books are already set to come out in 2019?! What are they? Please, Tell me!
Yesss hopefully the Jay Kristoff book is as good as it sounds! I really really loved Illuminae but I wasn’t a fan of his other series Stormdancer *cries* bUT I REMAIN OPTIMISTIC AND HOPEFUL. EEEP. 😀
“BUT MURDER, JOHN” same man same.
A Shadow Bright and Burning is such a gorgeous title, and that cover!! Others that might go on my TBR list are The Row and Thriving Weasels.
Ellie | On the Other Side of Reality
I need a tee-shirt with “BUT MURDER, JOHN” on it basically because I shout that far too often. Ahem.
Lol, I can’t imagine how anyone limited themselves to ten for this post. It was so exciting to see Spindle on someone’s list! I feel like so few people know about it. (Also, if you’re looking for other Sleeping Beauty retellings, there’s Princess of Thorns and A Wicked Thing.) Vassa in the Night sounds so good, and gah, don’t even get me started on all the 2017 titles I’m anticipating.
My TTT: http://bookworm716.blogspot.com/2016/06/top-ten-tuesday-most-anticipated-2016.html
I know right!??!? There are just TOO MANY BOOKS OUT THERE and I want to read them all😂 And if I can’t read them all at least I can blog about them and drool over them. #logical
I also am SUCH a deluded pineapple because I’ve read Princess of Thorns and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT ERMAGERD. And someone else just mentioned A Wicked Thing and now I really want that one too. :’)
NEVERNIGHT. IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL AND IT’S GONNA DESTROY ME. I CAN FEEL IT.
Also SPINDLE?! WHAT’S THAT??!?!
I’M LIKE 99% NEVERIGHT IS GOING TO BE SPECTACULAR. *shrieks in anticipation*
And I thought that I knew what books were being released this year, Apparently I KNOW NOTHING. Thanks for giving me more books to add to my TBR (or maybe I shouldn’t be thanking you…).
HAHAAH YOU’RE WELCOME.😂 Honestly I’ve found a STACK of new books just reading everyone else’s TTT’s. I think the publishers are being extra industrious this year?!?
OMG Cait! I think you broke my TBR. How dare you add all the books that sound promising and force me to want to read them. Seriously though, thank you for the wonderful selection. Great list today!
YOU AND YOUR TBR ARE MOST WELCOME. :’) *watches as the mountain collapses on you*
I’m SO excited for Timekeeper and Enter Title Here! And you just made me add The Secret Science of Magic to my never-ending TBR because it sounds AMAZING! I have to admit that I didn’t look too closely at the 2017 books, because at this point, the anticipation for those books might kill me. But I’m definitely coming back to this list later, when the wait isn’t quite so long!
BUT ACTUALLY 2017 IS ONLY IN 6 MONTHS SO THAT’S REALLY NOT THAT FAR AWAY.😂 I’m not sure if that makes it better or worse though…
Ah, Cait, I feel you. I have a 2019 shelf already on Goodreads too! I am glad I am not alone in this debacle. I don’t even know where to begin with this list, and I knew if I did it, I would have like, 73 books on it- which is what I did in the winter for the first half of the year. I doubt it’d be fewer than 20. If I really tried, even.
I had not heard of Spindle! But ummm all these other books? Yeah, NEEDS. (Especially Allie’s book but maybe I am biased because she is amazing but shh. And also Scythe, but for the same reason as you.)
Our TBRs really are going to outlive us. #SadFact
THERE ARE JUST SO MANY BOOKS OMG. I feel like this year has more books I’m desperate for than last year did?? Or perhaps last year I was actually a lot more controlled and picky about my TBR whereas this year it’s like “Is it YA? Is it a book? Yeah I’m gonna read it”. #helpme
BUT ALLIE IS VERY AMAZING. Ergo her book will be amazing and I know already that her writing is absolutely spectacular. :’) Since I’ve beta’d for her before (not this book tho wah) does that make me famous be association?!? SAY YES.
OMG! This post is hilarious! I can’t believe you’re doing this to us! Making us drool and sob over the these books that are yet to come. *cries an ocean*
But on the brighter side, I haven’t heard some of the books here you’ve mentioned. I’ll definitely check out the one with murders cause just like you, my internal organs chant MURDER.MURDER.MURDER. (I just sounded like a psychopath; I AM IN NO WAY A SADISTIC KILLER OF HUMAN KIND OR ANY LIVING THING FOR THAT MATTER). 🙂
Hope to read a new post from you soon! Stay golden, dragon Cait! 🙂
I do call myself “evil” overlord on occasion. :’)
And I’m sure we’re BOTH VERY NORMAL AND FINE AND HEALTHY individuals despite wanting to read all the books about murder. Ahem.
Stop with all the books! My bank balance can’t take all these new books I actually must own. But I need them!
I have so many books I’m excited for this year. I cannot wait for Nevernight and then there are all these new books I’ve not heard about (or heard about and ignored like a fool) because Timekeeper and Architect of Song sound amazing and will be bought immediately with that money I shouldn’t be spending but whatever, who needs money anyway?
I WARNED YOU THIS POST WAS TORTURE. *nods* And like I totally agree. Who need savings? Who needs food and rent and all those things? (I mean, we need wifi though. #priorities) We can build igloos from books and live in those. SO MUCH WIN.
Timekeeper has been on my radar since the start of the year (and the broke and the bookish made us do one of those debut type lists, haha). It sounds really good though.
Ahhhh I’m so excited for Timekeeper! 😀 I only just discovered it but zomg it sounds THE BEST.
I HATE YOU MY TBR LIST JUST GREW EVEN BIGGER!!! *cries*
I mean thank you for sharing some wonderful books!
But I still also hate you.
Man, this is some weird S&M.
I think you made a small typo there and meant to say “I love you”?? I’m sure. *nods* It’s okay we all make mistakes. ALSO IF YOUR TBR FALLS ON YOUR HEAD AND SQUASHES YOU FLAT…DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YOU.
Oh man! That’s a whole lot of books! They all sound delicious! But 2 things:
This is Our Story- Sounds so much like The Raven Boys! And I LOVE The Raven Cycle. And is that a stag on the cover? Are you sure this isn’t Maggie Stiefvater incognito? Defo waiting for this
Kingdom of Ash and Briars- I LOVE gender benders! I JUST LOVE THEM DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!! Seems like the kind of book I’d read. Add some fantasy to the mix and I’m in. Like, I love Fantasy. #RealitySucks
Ps: I love your posts, Cait!
Oh…well, I didn’t think the plot of This Is Our Story really sounded anything like The Raven Boys? (I’m a wild Stiefvater fan too!)
Also all the fantasy of ever = good times. :’)
AWW THANK YOU, ASI. <3 YOU ARE SO VERY NICE. *shares cake with you*
Magical baking. YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Somebody has Sense, this is clear. *nods approvingly*
I AM SO UP FOR BOOKS ABOUT MAGICAL BAKING. *shrieks* More of this!! MORE.
I had to stop myself from looking at 2017 releases! I even have a 2018 release on my TBR ((0_0))
I went into my TBR for this TTT, thinking I had plenty to choose from, but really, I had several 2017 ones taking those slots and had to search a little more for 2016 releases *inhales* AH! I’m looking forward to plenty of books (*^*)
I’ve even found some 2019 books and THAT’S JUST TOO FAR AWAY OMG. Goodreads needs to stop tormenting us.😂
Yes to like…all of these. AND HOW DID I NOT KNOW A.G. HOWARD WAS WRITING A NEW ADULT NOVEL? I normally keep up to date on all the authors I like but I missed this one and how? Although I don’t like the cover all that much. It just looks…amateurish…I guess would be the right word? Also, I didn’t know about Thieving Weasels, either, which goes A) on my TBR, and B) on my list of book titles that made me laugh when I heard them. And I need the dragon trafficking one yesterday, thanks.
NOW YOU KNOW AND YOUR LIFE IS INFINITELY BETTER. (I’m not sure if she’s actually self-publishing it? I’m struggling to find more info about it actually which is odd.)
But yes, omg, I need the dragon trafficking one like I need air. 2017 PLEASE COME NOW TO ME.
Hey! I found this https://www.pottermore.com/features/sweets-and-treats-infographic and thought of you! 🙂
Mmmmm, tasty. 😀
I thought this list was amazing… and then I saw the 2017 releases, and now I’m suddenly very aware of the fact that I have to wait at least half a year or more to even see some of the covers… WHYYYYYYYYY.
Brittany @ Brittany’s Book Rambles
I should be sorry about the 2017 list BUT I’M NOT REALLY SO YEAH. 😂 But omg don’t they look divine!?!? I feel like 2017 is going to be AMAZING.
I honestly think wether I should curse you or praise you and built you a statue so other people can praise you as well. 😀 Soooo many awesome books and my TBR just freaked out and ran away… I’m hiding under my blanket becase sooo many book! But I honestly cannot wait for another book by the awesome A.G. Howard. I think I’m going to fangirl. Also thanks to you I found a lot of new books that I need to read this year… oh boy, time to stop sleeping 😀
I think probably love me forever because I AM SO KIND TO BE HELPING YOUR TBR GROW AND FLOURISH. :’) And potentially crush you flat, but pfft, work place hazards, right? And yesssss, AG Howard basically can take all my money because I LOVE what she writes. And who needs sleep? NOT US.
*flails excitedly* I want to read ALL the books!
Especially Scythe, Kingdom of Ash and Briars, and Timekeeper. They just…they sound excellent. Thank you very much! My TBR is killing me, but it’s a glorious, exciting death so I’ll take it.
Keep blogging!
THEY DO SOUND SO EXCELLENT. And RIP you beneath your TBR but there are worse ways to go, right? :’)
Yessssss!!! So many of these look so good!! I hope you love them all when you read them. I hate to say it but I read an ARC of Three Dark Crowns and I hated it. 🙁 I really do hope you like it a lot more than I did though!
OMG THAT’S SO SAD ABOUT THREE DARK CROWNS. *weeps* I’m going to hope I like it?!? But I’ll try to lower my expectations.😂
Scythe, Timekeeper and This Is Our Story were all on my list this week too!
*hi fives* We clearly have EPIC bookish taste.
We clearly do 🙂
I would at least give a kidney, I need money!
Oh, also I posted some Kaz pics.
I LOVED YOUR KAZ PICTURES AHHHHH! hehe.
Well, as you know I read mostly contemporary… but your flailing posts always make me excited for fantasy too. So THANK YOU, now I need all of these books toooooooo!!!!
YOUR TBR IS WELCOME. 😉 *piles books on everyone’s heads* 😂
Okay now I am going to have to give up sleep so I can read all of these new additions to my TBR… Minus the few that are on my list too 😀
That is an excellent idea. *nods* WHO NEEDS SLEEP ANYWAY??!??
So many pretty covers! I love books about assassins, so Nevernight looks like something I might like. Ever since reading, How to Lead a Life of Crime, I’ve been a sucker for the anti-hero books.
I love admiring the new releases, but we all know I probably won’t get around to reading them until 2020, haha.
AHHHHH I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKE HOW TO LEAD A LIFE OF CRIME! 😀 That book is wildly underrated honestly. *nods* But, omg, I know how you feel. I want to read THEM ALL but also how is one supposed to have time to read them all. *weeps*
Ahhh, so many books to add to my TBR! And why, oh why, did you have to add books that aren’t coming out until 2017?? YOU ARE EVIL!! I really need Nevernight. I loved Jay Kristof’s writing in Illuminae, so I hope I will love that one. And Three Dark Crowns sounds amazing!! Great list!
I AM PERFECTLY EVIL. But to be fair, I did warn you at the beginning of the post. SO YOU ONLY HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME. (This…makes sense I’m sure.) And eeep YES I hope I love Nevernight since Illuminae was so good! 😀
Ohh, so many pretty covers and lots of books have been added to my TBR. It’s scary. But oh well. Lots more books to devour. 😀
YOUR TBR IS MOST WELCOME. I hope it doesn’t fall on your head.😂
I will use my magic wand (that totally exists) to control it. The pile must stay and be allowed to grow. 😠 So says I 😄
WHAT SADISTIC IMPULSE DROVE YOU TO SHARE THOSE 2017 RELEASES. WHY? My heart wants them and they will not exist for another year, IT IS TOO CRUEL.
I am so happy that fantasy is getting such a huge representation in YA this year. I admit I have not liked many I’ve read butttt hope springs eternal and they look really good. I also NEED to own Vassa in the Night because cover lust.
I DO CLAIM THE “EVIL” OVERLORD TITLE ON OCCASION. *crowns self cruelly* Ahem. But if it make syou feel better…2017 is only 6 months away. (I actually feel WORSE knowing that.😂)
And yessss, fantasy is making such a big comeback and I’M REALLY HAPPY. Except I’ve read a lot of dodgy ones too.😂 But we can hope?! Ruined was glorious at least and also The Impostor Queen!!
I mean… This is post is fine… It’s not like my TBR list was already a mountain or anything. It can totally deal with having even more books added to it. I’m not even worried.
(Seriously though — why, Cait, WHY??)
I need the Mulan book in my life RIGHT NOW. And so many others.
(As a side note, I am asking you not to do your usual friendly, lovely thing and visit my blog in return today, because I said bad things about The Raven Boys and it might make you feel a little bit stabby SORRY hahaha)
*digs you out from underneath monstrous pile of books* ARE YOU ALIVE DOWN UNDER THERE, SHAUNNA? *piles more books helpfully on your head*
(Omggggg. YOU BREAK MY HEART.😂 But also you’re super nice to warn me. Haha! I’ll just stalk you and read another post. ;D)
Oh my gosh, you went to 2017. You went there. Sobs. So much WAITING. So much goodness in this list, but the female of the species, Nevernight and Magic bitter magic sweet are my faves. They’re all good but I want THOSE three so desperately!
YES I WENT THERE. I am the meanest. But I also did warn everyone up front BUT YOU KEPT READING, SO YOU ARE TO BLAME TOO.
Sorry, can’t hear you over the books I’m adding to my TBR list. Nods.
Whaaaaat. Dragon Trafficking!??! Will a kidney do?
I feel like book cover designers are really stepping up their game! Seriously so many covers to die for!
I WILL GIVE TWO KIDNEY FOR THE DRAGON TRAFFICKING BOOK. Like my kidney and someone else’s. Or like two of someone else’s. I’m thrifty. *nods*
I have Nevernight… EXCITED! I signed up for a review spot on The Architect Of Song blog tour, so I hope I get one and get sent an ARC. I have the Magic Bitter book, but after I got it I realized that it was written by tne author who wrote The Glass Magician, and I hated that book. Ha ha. I hope this one is better. I want Vassa In the Night, too! And whatever the title is of the dragon trafficking story, I NEED IT! Great list. 😀
AHHHHHH NEVERNIGHT!! I hope you like it! I’m hearing it’s glorious so far, but I tend to also be a black sheep😂 So I remain cautious. AND AFJADSKL I’M SO EXCITED FOR ARCHITECT OF SONG. I hope you like it! Is it being self-published or indie-done do you know? I mean, it’s so close to release date but I can’t find it for sale in paperback anyway. #dies
TAOS (there’s a name for one of your characters) is being indie pubbed. A.G. told me when I was asking about eARCs on Netgalley or Edelweiss. She said she didn’t know whether she was going to make them available, or not. I asked her back in January and it is so close to the pub date I guess she must have decided not to. That is why I signed up for the blog tour hoping to get a review post. Do you want to sign up for the tour? I am sure with your blog stats you will get a review post. I can DM you the link on Twitter.
But it’ll be on amazon right?? I’ll probably wait and buy it because I have sooooo too many review books atm. #dead
I can’t imagine that It wouldn’t be. I am surprised she isn’t doing any pre-order publicity. Although, come to think of it, I don’t think she did with the Splintered books or RoseBlood. At least I don’t recall.
CAIT, I SWEAR, YOU WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME. I KNEW I SHOULDN’T HAVE COME ON YOUR BLOG WITH THE HOPES OF KEEPING MY TBR LESS THAN MY READ.
I HAVE NO REGRETS THOUGH. *cackles evilly*
I just recently hit 400 read books on Goodreads and… Just… My to-read pile has surpassed 600 WHAT DO I DO NOW
Kingdom of Ash and Briars looks really interesting. O.o AND THE COVER. It is gorgeous. *drools* *adds to TBR*
ISN’T IT JUST?!? I SHALL DEVOUR IT AT DAWN. (Or, ya know, on the release date.)
*puts all of these books on my TBR* One day this mountain is going to fall over and smother me into little fangirl bits. XD (And probably eat me for lunch, who knows?)
I got an ARC of Kingdom of Ash and Briars from my amazing librarian! (Aren’t librarians the coolest?) *ahem* Anyway, I have to say that it’s pretty good so far! The writing took me a bit to get used to, but I think it’s only because I don’t really read fantasy a lot. Although I know I totally should. XP
Saaaame. OMG SAME. The struggle is real with all these books and yet we fail to feel sorry. *hugs them* *dies probably*
OMG YOUR LIBRARIANS ARE NICEEEEEE. :’) And I’m glad you’re mostly liking Kingdom of Ash and Briars! That makes me even more excited for it because I’m a HUGE fantasy nerd. 😀
You are indeed too cruel for words.
*twirls in majestic circles* AND ALSO NOT EVEN SORRY. 😂
Okay, since I was just dumped into this post by the more recent, writerly-confessions post (rude, btw, to just dump someone into a blog-binge like that) – do you kinda sorta freak out a little bit deep down on the inside when you see an upcoming release which sounds a bit like your book? Like, is it 99% awesome that A.G. Howard apparently shares some mental thread with you, or is it 100% awesome?
Because I usually land on 99% and the remaining one is going !!!!!!!!!%)#^%!%&!)#%#!$ NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! But y’know. Maybe that’s just my own writerly confession. Which does not belong in this comment. So moving on to…
*SUFFERING NOISES* FOR ALL OF THESE, DUDE, ALL OF THEM! Emily and I have both noticed a sudden upswing of YA thrillers, and basically YAAAAAAAAS. (And NOWHERE is that trend clearer than when you go through your own anticipated releases.) But, y’know, I’m made of 30% thrillers and 70% fantasy, SO THE FANTASY IS TORTURING ME EVEN WORSE AND CAN WE PLEASE STRIKE BACK SOMEHOW? THIS IS INHUMANE. BAD ANTICIPATION! BAD!
Like, Jandy Nelson has a 2017 release coming up (in FOREVER!) and there’s A Conjuring of Light and Roseblood and JUST LEAVE ME HERE TO SUFFER, YA. This is all A YEAR AWAY. And then there’s also your entire list of 2016 ones which will do their darndest to kill us beforehand.
I’d apologise for dumping you into blog-bingeing but look at my adorably evil angelic face? DO I LOOK SORRY? NOPE. Ahem.
AHHAHAHH. Yes. I freak out.😂 I mean The Architect of Song has like a deaf girl aND A GHOST. So. That happened. #awkward And I don’t know if you saw my review of The Leaving recently? But I 100% had a book plotted out that sounds SO much like that. *strangles self* Ahem.
I’m always super wary of YA thrillers though. I NEVER GET THRILLED OMG I’M SO HARD TO PLEASE. *cries* I do try them all though, because I can’t stop myself.
WAHHHHH. Jandy Nelson has a book coming out next year?! DID I NOT KNOW THIS. I NEED TO HAVE KNOWN THIS.
The fact that it’s called Fall Boys & Dizzy In Paradise makes it even better, honestly. I mean, that’s Dead Boy And The Papercut level whimsical. <3
I know multiple people have mentioned A Wicked Thing when talking about Sleeping Beauty retellings, but besides the awesomeness of examining how alone and difficult Aurora feels after waking up, it has DRAGONS – I was surprised no one mentioned that yet! They aren’t in the first book too much, but they’re DEFINITELY in the second book, which came out a couple months ago and is awesome, although definitely a different tone than the first book.
Omg, did you just say DRAGONS. *dashes off to goodreads to find this book* I actually also remembered Princess of Thorns is a Sleeping Beauty retelling. *facepalm* 😂 SO THERE ARE SOME.
SO MANY GOOD ONES. I am bookmarking this page for the rest of the year to reference because OMG I need some of these (but know my stupid brain will forget about 99% of them)
YAYYY I AM GLAD YOU LIKED IT, MOLLY! 😀 I’m writing them down on sticky notes and putting them on my wall.😂
You know, I should probably do that. hahah
NO YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO INTRODUCE 2017 BOOKS. I already have so many on my plate and 2016 isn’t even over! Wahhh! Oh, but some new ones I’ve discovered here are Kingdom of Ash and Briars (Sounds freaking fantastic! Shapeshifters are cool!) and the The Architect of Song (Didn’t even know she was publishing this!).
YES I AM. I DO WHAT I WANT VALERIE. I’M SUPER MEAN LIKE THAT. *cackles* Ahem. I mean, my apologise. But aren’t you glad I didn’t list any 2018 ones?? Go me!
Wow, I am quite behind the times because there are so many wonderful titles here that I haven’t heard of! Definitely not helping that gigantic TBR Cait! I love the sound of Three Dark Crowns and Vassa in the Night. Thrillers are always good as well and all those are new to me! thanks for the list lovely!
YOUR TBR IS SO VERY WELCOME, JEANN. *twirls majestically* I am so very kind. :’)
I don’t even know where to start… I want to read like all of these! I think I’m going to have to go on a Goodreads adding spree in a second. And I think my wallet got significantly lighter just looking at all these new, shiny books…. I’m going to be broke by next year! Great list, Cait.
I WANT TO READ ALL OF THEM TOO. CAN WE HAVE LIKE 39849 MORE HOURS IN THE DAY?!?? Or request publishers pause for a while. Because help. Ahem.
Cait nooo I don’t have the money and time to read all of these 😂 The only one I knew of (and wanted to read) before I read your post was Nevernight, now I pretty much want to read all of them haha
YOU’RE WELCOME FOR THE PAIN THAT IS THIS LIST.😂
Hello, Cait!
I recently started reading your blog and am really enjoying it. I like your take on books and reading–it’s so enthusiastic and fun and energetic. I also like hearing about your writing projects! Although I can’t imagine writing 100K in a day. Are you even human?! O.O
Have you ever read any of Robin Mckinley’s or Ally Carter’s books? Robin Mckinley has written a Sleeping Beauty retelling also by the title of Spindle. I enjoyed it but am also excited to hear about this new one. I LOVE fairytale retellings so much. And then Ally Carter wrote this series called The Heist Society. Your summary of Thieving Weasels kinda reminded me of it. Those books were good too! I’d recommend checking them out if you have the time!
Yikes, this is a really long comment. I’m sorry about that, but this is the last thing, promise. I write a blog and was tagged for this blog tag/linkup/thingie called The Power of Words. I’m supposed to tag other bloggers and I was wondering if it would be okay for me to tag you. It’s an easy, simple, and fun tag that asks stuff like, “What’s your favorite letter of the alphabet? Three favorite words? Three least favorite words? Favorite punctuation marks?” Stuff like that. Just kinda celebrating people’s love of words. It’s totally optional of course! Just thought you might enjoy it.
Danielle
AHHH THANK YOU, DANIELLE!! And welcome to the madness!! *waves wildly* And omg definitely I am not human. I’m probably an adorable robot *nods* who has 9 arms in order to type very very fast. #legit
I have read Ally Carter’s books! WAsn’t such a fan of Gallagher Girls, but I didn’t mind Heist Society. ;D And I haven’t read any Robin McKinley yet but I’ve heard of her books!
Aww, thanks for the tag! I shall go check it out. 😀
Hahaha, thanks and you’re welcome!
Well THAT is quite the mental image.
I haven’t read Gallagher Girls but yeah, I’ve heard it wasn’t the best. :/ But that’s probably fine. I already have way too many books on my TBR list. 😉
Oh, wait, I haven’t posted it yet. I will soon though. You’re welcome!
Okay, now I’ve posted it. 🙂
Thanks for sharing. Every time I visit Paper Fury, by reading list swells a little. Great finds! Now let’s hope they’ll be great reads too.
Eeep, I hope you do like them if you get a chance to try them. AND AHH I CAN’T HELP BUT MAKE EVERYONE’S TBRS EXPLODE.😂
Yessss. I do hope they don’t disappoint you if you try some of them. 😀
THIS IS OUR STORY WAS MY WOW. I’m so glad to see on your list!!! (Murder John haaaa)
Eek. I hated Enter Title Here. It was so obnoxiously obnoxious. I’m dyiiiing for Tell Me Something Real, too. So interesting and sadness and I’ll probably cry. I feel it. Eek. I tried to avoid the ’17 reads because I can’t handle the TEMPETATION. BUT ALAS. Long May Reign is my calling. Talk about The Last Supper, right? Right? *crickets* 😉 and AHHH the female of the species. I’M NOT READY TOO MANY BOOKS. D:
Aww, that sucks about Enter Title Here *melts into a puddle of sad* I WAS SO KEEN FOR THAT ONE. And omg if your TBR collapses on your head just know that mine is crushing me too.😂
Oh Caaaait! All of these were new to me! And so many were added to my wishlist! I am excited! Cait, The Prince’s Bane… possible The Little Mermaid retelling with a twist? Because there seem to be some similarities!
OH, and Sleeping Beauty retellings: A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan, and also another one by Anna Sheehan, Spinning Thorns about Sleeping Beauty’s daughter, but they’re not related.
Oooh, I shall check out these Sleeping Beauty ones. THANKYOU! I also realised that Princess of Thorns is one and I totally forgot about it DESPITE IT BEING MY FAVOURITE BOOK OF LAST YEAR *facepalm*😂
I have Nevernight and I cannot wait to read it! I have been working my way through Kristoff and Kaufmann’s work since Illuminae and Nevernight will keep me happy till I get my hands on Gemina!
AHHH I LOVED ILLUMINAE SO BAD!! It was just so unique and awesome. *squawks* I hope Nevernight is the same. Except, ya know, with assassins-y stuffs. :’)
I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THE WHOLE DEATH BY TBR BEING A LEGIT POSSIBILITY…If there ever was an earthquake and I was near my bookshelves…not going to lie I’d be very scared.
I am super excited for Nevernight & Timekeeper! I have a copy of Three Dark Crowns, A Shadow Bright and Burning, Vassa In the Night, Spindle, and Enter Title Here and can’t wait to read them! I just read Thieving Weasels and it was hilarious!
OMG NOOOOO DON’T GET STARTED WITH 2017 BOOKS!!! MY TBR CAN’T HANDLE THEM!!!
I hadn’t heard of Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet or The Prince’s Bane but they both look incredible so YUP THEY’RE NOW ON MY TBR.
I screw my bookshelves to the wall. #winning ONE CAN NEVER BE TOO CAREFUL FOR THESE THINGS, AMIRITE?!?! *nods* Ohhhh, I hope you like all of those glorious ones you already have! AHHHH. I should go try my luck with requesting some on Edelweiss but I kind of want to just buy them when they come out.😂 SO WE’LL SEE. 2017 is SOON though, Nori. SOON. (That’s actually cause for panic, amirite?! Eeeek.)
2017 books?! No, too soon! Too soon! My brain can’t handle the wait! Okay, I shall calm myself down by thinking of 2016 soon to come books instead. Yes! Magic Bitter Magic Sweet? I love the premise of that! And I wouldn’t mind have some magic of my own to do all the cooking/baking… 😉
Frost, Kingdom of Ash and Briars! *squeals* How long do we have to wait before these are out?
I actually just got approved for Magic Bitter Magic Sweet AND I AM ALLL THE EXCITE OMGGGGG. Magical baking here I come!! *eats the book* ahem.😂
I can’t wait to hear how it “TASTES”! (Okay, bad pun there, but I couldn’t help myself 😛 )
I’m very protective of my spleen, but then again… Nevernight! Tough choice.
No, I must not be tempted. August is so close. I waited this long… I can survive this.
Great post.
