1. I didn’t start reading YA until I was 17. And it basically started with The Hunger Games. I can’t even remember why I picked it up at the library — but least to say I WAS ADDICTED. Then I, a pinterest newbie, found a list of “Books To Read If You Love The Hunger Games!” Lies, all lies. But it did lead me to Maggie Stiefvater. Speaking of which…
2. MY FAVOURITE AUTHOR OF ALL EVERS IS MAGGIE STIEFVATER. IF YOU DID NOT KNOW THIS, YOU HAVEN’T BEEN PAYING ATTENTION. I’ve collected 8 of her books in hardback and, oh gloriousness, it’s my most proudest collection. 5-stars to everything she writes. If she wrote about a lemon tree on a road trip to find a citrus assassin, I would read it.
3. To confirm the above fact, I invite you to look at the above picture on this post. Why see my face when you can see THE RAVEN BOYS. AFJDKSLA.
4. To return, briefly to The Hunger Games…I specifically asked for the boxset for Christmas last year so I could reread them before the last movie. I have not reread them because — I DON’T WANT TO BEND THE COVERS. #bookwormproblems But aren’t they so ridiculously beautiful?! And I will read them soon…
5. I feel slightly guilty about it but…I REALLY LOVE GAME OF THRONES. They’re very violent and graphic at times and nunnnngh there are things I hate. But at the same time, I’m awed by the world building. And also there is Jon Snow and his fabulous hair.
6. Despite letting out scaly roars about how much I love dragons…I have not read many dragon books. I’ve read maybe 3 or 4?? Recommendations = yes please.
7. I often read an entire book in one day. Not in one sitting though. HAHAHA what do you think I am?? A focused pineapple? I am an unfocused pineapple. The only thing I can focus on for hours and hours without twitching is writing.
8. I’m obsessed with bookish photography!! I’d love to learn more about my camera and lighting and just photoish stuff in general — but for now I am an inept flailing melon just having fun.
7. I didn’t grow up reading Harry Potter. I grew up on Narnia. FOR NARNIA! AND FOR ASLAN!
8. Which means I still had an entirely literarily magically childhood without Harry Potter thankyouverymuch. Although I’m enjoying the series now. As an ancient melon.
9. Okay, so I’m not THAT old. I’m only 21. But I feel old because I’ve read so many books. I’ve nearly read 300 this year, so that’s 300 lives…300 years…I’M OLD IN BOOKISH YEARS.
10. I wish I knew how many books I’d read in my life time! I’m determined to count one day. But I’ve reviewed 700 books in the last 4 years. And I’ve always been an avid reader…so I’m going to guess around 1,500???
11. I LOVE BOOKS A GARGANTUAN AMOUNT. I know! This is a given, but seriously, books give me this intensely tightly happy feeling. I like looking at them and arranging them and blogging about them. I am not good at being a happy bean, so the fact that books always make me happy is a delicious thing.
12. I love writing reviews! It’s never a chore! It’s one of my favourite parts of the reading process.
13. When a human says “hey I bought this book because of your recommendation”…I BASICALLY FREAK OUT WITH HAPPINESS. You trust me? Oh my gosh.
14. Once upon a time…my blog was mentioned in the back of Scarlet! YES. As in The Lunar Chronicles. Except it’s “Notebook Sisters” that got mentioned but still. I CLAIM FAME.
15. I do occasionally get sick of reading. I knooooow. Shockingly shameful, right? But to fix it, I usually go and write a book. This makes me a) appreciate other’s story telling more because omg why is mine such a mess, and b) just gives me a break. Breaks are good.
16. I’ve dropped a book in a mud puddle. Whilst trying to photograph it. I…I am mortified. Please let’s not talk about this.
17. Audiobooks are amazing. I wish I could read every single book of ever on an audiobook. But a) do you know how expensive they are?? sheesh, and b) not all books ARE audios, and c) it takes way longer and I am a fast bean so I probably would be frustrated eventually. BUT STILL!! I always remember audio books way longer than the physical books I gobble with my own puny eyeballs.
18. I’m really shy in-real-life and don’t connect with people well at all. BUT BOOKS MAKE SENSE. Books are my friends. Also the internet is my friend — yay for mutual bookworm internet friendships and flailing!!
19. Goodreads, though. GOODREADS IS EVERYTHING. I’m on there constantly writing millions of reviews. It is my favourite bookish website.
20. I have successfully helped my pre-schooling nephew and niece onto the road of eternal booknerdness. Library day is their favourite! My nephew was reading like a pro at only four years old. And my niece always panics she won’t have enough to read when we leave. She literally piles A BILLION picture books in the library bag when I’m not looking. I also have to carry them all. “I can’t carry the bag, Cait,” they whine, “I can only carry one book.” THIS IS THE STORY OF HOW I GOT MUSCLES.
21. For Christmas I would like a book deal. LISTEN UP, SANTA. Failing this, I would also like my dog secretary to start pulling his weight and make me sandwiches and bring them to me without devouring them first.
22. My bookish weaknesses are as follows: blood, guts, and glory….also stories with siblings, delicious food descriptions, sassy dialogue, tormented darlings with horrible pasts but are still so sweet, suffocatingly beautiful writing, and anything with the words MAGGIE and STIEFVATER emblazoned on the cover.
23. When I’m a famous-published-real-live-author…I shall make my book into a cake. And then eat it. This is the pinnacle of my authorly ambitions.
24. I’m not ashamed of judging books by their covers!! I spend more time looking at books than I do reading them…so why shouldn’t I have shelves of pretty, shiny books?
25. Since I love shiny books so intensely, there is a 98.3% chance I am a book dragon. Or a magpie. But since dragons seem more majestic I’m going to go with DRAGON.
This is an impromptu tag from Rachel @ Confessions of a Book Geek! So basically, I want to tag EVERYONE to do it too because bookishly geeky facts are the best of ever basically. But I also specifically tag…
Shanti & Shar @ Weaving Waves Words // Midnight Rain Dragon @ Ivy Clad Ideas // Rachel & Bieke @ Istyria Book Blog // Lisa @ Pickle’s Pen and Trinkets // Mel @ The Daily Prophecy // Aentee @ Read At Midnight // Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight // Deborah @ The Road of a Writer // Erica @ Novel Ink // Josie @ Josie’s Book Corner // Rosie @ Rosie Reads // Emily @ Ink, Inc.
and YOU…don’t forget that!! also tag me on twitter (or here on my blog) so I can come read your post!
I might just steal this tag. I steal a lot of tags from you, but right now when I right my brain is completely stuck on NaNoWriMo so my blog is a bit dejected right now. Come December and I’ll be a crazy blogging machine again because I’ll be using my blog as an excuse not to edit Never, Never.
And YOU LOVE MAGGIE STIEFVATER? THAT IS ENTIRELLY NEW INFORMATION TO ME. I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED! 🙂
Stealing tags from my blog is TOTALLY acceptable, because let’s face it: I steal a heck of a lot of them myself. xD (We are tag stealing rebels, mwahhaha.) But I totally get that!! I think the whole blogosphere has been a bit quieter while everyone’s been Nanoing avidly. xD Can’t wait for December! SQUEE.
YES I KEEP MY STIEFVATER PASSIONS QUITE QUIETLY DON’T I?
Confession: I’m the citrus culprit. I MADE LEMONADE EARLIER AND IM SO SORRY FOR KILLING THE ANTAGONIST…. but it was rather Delicious and refreshing so then again it was somewhat worth it.
I didn’t grow up with Harry Potter either, and this makes me sad but I’ll get to it eventually…. Perhaps when I’m 76. But that isn’t as old 300! You’re an old melon, but also very wise an far as books go and extremely funny!!
OMG. CITRUS CRIMINAL YOU. But srsly, next time share. *dreams of lemonade*
I’m definitely an old, wise melon. AND NOT ASHAMED. XDDX
It’s finny how there’s a book titled “There Will Be Lies” at the top of your head in your post photo… Hmm… I sense something here…
Don’t worry. I didn’t grow up reading nor watching Harry Potter. I practically just watched the whole series a year after the last movie got released. The shame. The bookworm shame… *hides in a rabbit hole*
OMG SHHHH. DON’T TELL EVERYONE MY SUBTLE SECRETS. MWHAHAH. XD I actually didn’t notice that, but that’s hilarious. heheeheh. *pulls you out of the rabbit hole* DO NOT BE SHAMED. I’ve watched countless movies before the book and even prefer some movies more. 😛
I LOATHE writing reviews unless they are bad ones. Barhar. So there are not very many reviews on my blog because I only review four stars and up on my blog. I find it difficult to write good reviews because I care so much, and don’t want to miss any positive details that might make someone want to read it. Then, when it is done, I know I will agonize over it for a month thinking I could have done better. Plus, scavenging for the perfect gifs take so much time, as you know! To you have the entire set of A Series of Unfortunate Events in hardcover? I have only read the first one, but I am thinking about collecting the series because I love the way they look. I am sure my someday grandchildren will read them! I love that the nibblings are huge fans of library day! 😀
REALLY!?!? Omg, I love them!! I love getting my thoughts out and flailing or ranting. (Although ranting is substantially easier. :P) And gifing does take a lot of time. I actually don’t use as many gifs as I used to though, but I spend a milllion more hours editing photos. >_< yES MY UNFORTUNATE COLLECTION IS THE BESSST. We got them all second hand too!! SO BARGAINS!
I totally get your unwillingness to touch The Hunger Games boxset (it is beautiful). I asked for signed limited anniversary hardcover edition of Outlander last Christmas, but I also bought mass market paperback for reading because I didnt want to ruin my limited edition copy 🙂
And I also enjoy writing reviews and Goodreads is a godsend! I would have plenty of free time without Goodreads LOL
You are WISE. I feel like I will either do that or just library the books when I’m ready for a reread. XD They’re just too pretty to bend!!
Goodreads is just THE BEST right?!? Until I find myself wishing desperately for 2017 releases…gah. xD I NEED A TIME MACHINE.
YOU CONNECT SO WELL WITH EVERYONE HERE THO. Honestly, I wouldn’t have believed you were shy IRL if you didn’t mention it here. I peg you as the most friendliest book blogger here !
I’m in awe you never took reviewing as a chore. You are really a passionate book reader. Agh!
AWWW. THANK YOU, EVELYN. Trust me, it’s taken me years of work to be as “out going” as I am online. xD And yayy!! I’m glad I come across as friendly. Somehow it’s SO much easier when I’m typing then when there’s a human bean in front of me, hehe.
1. I only read Harry Potter last year (when I was 21) and I don’t think it’s the best series that was ever written. Sorry not sorry.
2. I’m currently reading the Narnia books for the first time.
3. I don’t like paranormal creatures in my books.
4. I always like to have a drink next to me when I read. Tea, cocoa, coffee, they’re all my favorites!
5. I haven’t read any Stiefvater even though I know how much you love them :/
1. I’m gonna agree with you. xD I really hate the Ron/Hermione ship. I think it’s awful and unbalanced and Ron is as bad a bully as Draco…just less dark magic. BUT STILL. BULLY. I do love bk 6 though!!
2. NARNIAAAAAAAA.
3. Aw. SAD FACE. I do. xD
4. Mmmm, I agree with you there. I mean, I don’t usually drink while I read but I WOULD IF I COULD. Coca. <3
5. *whispers* If I keep wheedling and nudging one day maybe you will?!? 😛
I applaud you for finding 25 facts. I’ll have to think for this one. XDD
It was kinda hard. XD I had to keep thinking about it and coming back. CLEARLY I HAVE LOT TO SAY ABOUT MYSELF THOUGH?!
This tag is so much fun Cait! I love that you’ve converted the young ones into book readers as well, maybe when they’re older they can read your book when you become famous 😉
yES LET’S HOPE SO. Although whenever they catch me typing my nephew informs me that I’m “writing something boring and scary”. -_- He also judges my YA choices when we library together. “That’s too scary, Cait, put it back.” GAH. XDXD
Lol the picture of a flailing melon had me bursting out with laughter! :’D And omg you’re 21?! You’re old, Cait. Idk why but I thought you were much younger.
Ah idk for some reason audio books don’t seem to be working for me. I got one for review, I’ve been struggling with it for forever. And I actually really like the author’s work. If it had been print I’m sure I would’ve finished by now *sigh*. I think its because o feel like there isn’t much involvement from my side? Hmm something to think about…
BAHH AHHA. Don’t worry! I get that a lot. In real life too. Everyone always thinks I’m 16…and now they think my little sister is older than me.-_- I’m not very mature?!? NO WAIT. I’M PETER PAN. *flies off to neverland*
But that’s okay, right?! Audios aren’t for everyone!! And I grew up being read to, so I think that just encouraged my love for listening to stories.
YESSSSS, BOOKISH PHOTOGRAPHY! Also, LOVE this tag. Audiobooks used to be my LIFE, seriously (they’re so good for when you don’t really have the time to read-read but still want to read a book. (Let’s just pretend that makes sense, yes)) though I haven’t listened to one in YEARS. xD
Audio books are EXCELLENT. Especially if you’re doing something hands-on but you’re brain is bored. I get SO much “reading” done while working on my origami and stuff. XD SO MUCH WIN.
I can see why you don’t want to damage that Hunger Games set – they’re so BEAUTIFUL. I’ve been known to buy a book and then have to buy the ebook just so I don’t damage the hard copy…
And for the record, I hate the first three Harry Potters. The next few are… meh.
Aren’t they just?! AJFDKLSAFD and they’re so entirely shiny. :’) *happy sigh* I’m sure it’s okay to library them when I want to reread and keep mine pristine. XD
*Whispers* I had a tough time with bk 5. It felt SO unedited and just dribbled away at nothing for hours. 0_0 But I adored bk 6!
Speaking of growing up on Narnia:
Ages and ages ago (aka 3 years ago), back when my husband and I were still dating, we lived in different towns. One winter night he was driving to visit me while I stayed at my parents house, and my little brothers and I spent an hour making giant caches of snowballs all over the yard. We hid while he pulled into the driveway. As soon as he got out of the car, we stood up and yelled, “FOR NARNIA!!!!!!!” and started an epic snowball fight. Best night ever.
(Sorry, I just can’t NOT comment on this one. I hope it’s okay, Cait! 😀 )
THIS IS JUST SO CUUUUTE, ALISON! <3 #relationshipgoals
@Alison: AWWWW THAT IS THE CUTEST THING OF EVER. XD SO ADORABLE TOO, OMG. I used to sneak up on my sister and screech it at her, but the end result was me getting chased down for murder, so YA KNOW. The things I do for Aslan. *collapses dramatically*
Throughout this whole thing I was thinking, “oh I want to do this.” Then, at the end, BOOM, I’m tagged so thank you Dragon Cait! 😀
My first YA book was also The Hunger Games and it rocked my world. I also want those editions in my life! They’re so utterly beautiful. I also am going to be binge reading The Raven Cycle this next two weeks and I’m super excited. I keep renewing them from the library and now I am destined to get to them!
I CAN’T WAIT TO READ YOURS, ERICA. XD I mean, only if you want to do it! No pressure. 😛
AHHH YAY FOR THE HUNGER GAMES BEING A GATEWAY BOOK!! It seriously is the epicness of my entire reading life. *happy sigh* Although I desperately want to reread. *nods* I think I reread one of them? The first one. omg my brain is swiss cheese this late at night. BUT YESSSS. THEY ARE TIMELESS. Ah hahaha!! I hOPE YOU LOVE THE RAVEN CYCLE. No pressure of course. *cackles evilly*
You may not like me for this, but I have yet to read a Maggie Stiefvater book. I don’t even know why, so many people rave about her writing… Hmm, that may actually be why. I avoid books that receive a lot of praise because, in my experience, they’ve always been a let down because I hold my expectations high. I’ll have to check out her stuff soon!
Haha! I wouldn’t have thought you to be an inept flailing melon when it comes to book photography – I love your book photography! Also, how do you read a whole book in a day? Teach me your ways!!
Five bookish facts about me:
1. I’ve been dipping in and out of the book blogging community for a good few years now, but I always return because nobody IRL gets books and reading like this lovely community.
2. Children’s books are some of my favourite to read… And by children, I don’t mean YA or MG (although I do love those), I mean actual children’s picture books. Since being a mummy I have a new found appreciation for them and have a good old reading session with my toddler at least once a day. Honestly, some of the most creative stories are to be found there.
3. I recently purchased the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and I don’t think I’ve ever been as happy with a bookish purchase as I am with that.
4. I have never read/listened to (which is the correct term?) an audiobook. I think they have so many uses, and are especially goo id you have a busy lifestyle, but I just can’t take a story in as well as if I’m physically reading it.
5…… How did you come up with 25 facts? I can’t even manage 5. Haha!
aWWWW. YOU BREAK MY HEART, JADE. *weeps for your Stiefvater-less-life* Hehe, but each to their own! I mean, I always reckon a person should try a book before they decide but seriously…there are so many books. XD you should read what you want. *nods*
I JUST OPEN MY MOUTH AND SWALLOW = finished reading a book in one day.
Aw, I’m glad you always come back to the book blog community! THE HUMANS HERE ARE SO NICE. XD I wish I’d known about it sooner! It would’ve saved me years of wailing because no one read what I did. XD I love picture books too, no shame. 😉 I read them to my preschooling nephew/niece and there are some I seriously LOVE. Mo Williams = amazing.
What a great list! This was so much fun to read (actually, I could say that about most of your posts…).
I was also a latecomer to YA. I spent most of high school reading Heartland and Phantom Stallion — two series geared towards tweens/young teens. I knew they were shamefully way below my reading level, and I don’t talk much about it even now, but I loved them nonetheless. No regrets. 🙂
And I didn’t grow up on Harry Potter or Narnia (although I did read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe with my 4th grade class). In fact, I read them both in college. Both series are very much due a re-read.
Dragon books! We must find you more dragon books to read. Let’s see… the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini (3 books), The Dragon and the Scholar series by H.L. Burke (4 books), pretty much anything by Donita K. Paul (a lot of books)… and I’m 3/4 through The Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb, and I’m really enjoying it. I believe it’s part of a 4-book series.
AWW, THANKS, SERENA. 😀 *beams and dances happily* And no regrets for reading favourite childhood books. xD I read a ton of childhood classics. So they definitely weren’t challenging on my brain, and I was still reading them at 16. haha. BUT I HAD FUN.
I do need to read Eragon. It’s like the most famous dragon series of EVER right?!?!? I’m going to read the Robin Hobb books next year! 😀 It’s my project *nods*
I loved reading this & learning so many things about you!!
Never would’ve expected #18 – you seem so outgoing & friendly & wonderful – not that you’re not all of those things in real life but… yeah 😛 I guess that’s why the Internet is so amazing, you get to connect with all these people you would NEVER meet otherwise!
Also, 22 – yes to all of the above. Especially tormented darlings with horrible pasts. GAHHHH.
And I ALSO AM THE WORST ABOUT BUYING BOOKS AND NEVER REREADING THEM. I usually don’t buy physical copies of books until I’ve read them and know that I like them (limited shelf space yo) but even after I buy them, half the time I never reread them because I don’t want to accidentally crack the spine or scratch the covers or anything 😛 😛 😛 It’s that first moment that gives me mega anxiety – after that, I’m totally fine with having books that look well-worn and well-loved 😛
I knoooow. XD Everyone gets surprised that I am an ultimate hermit shell. hehe. BUT IT’S TRUE!! I feel a lot more comfortable online because typing and words-on-the-page are my forte. XD BUT YAY FOR THE INTERNET. It really does let super shy people like me have more friends. *nods*
Tormented darlings are just the besssst. *cuddles them all* *probably gets stabbed for efforts*
SAME SAME. I literally have been collecting all the Stiefvater books this year and going “I’ll reread them all” and I haven’t yet. >_< I love them so much but...newer books. Shiny books. I like buying second-hand because at least the books are already dingy and I don't have to worry about being the one to bend them. 😛
I think this is the most of you I have ever seen in one of your pictures! Not just hands in this one, we can also see your *gasp* elbows! hehe 😛
I love this and will definitely be doing my own bookish post too. There are so many fantastical things the world is yet to know about me! I don’t know how everyone sleeps at night without knowing such important information.
I was pretty late to the YA world too. For quite a while I would just read my same books over and over again because I didn’t have the money to buy more and my libraries book selection really sucked (still does!) and it was all mostly children books. I’d read the odd YA book over the years but it wasn’t until probably a year of two before I started my blog that I actually properly started reading YA.
I would love to know how any books I’ve read in my life too. I’ve been trying to remember them all and add them to Goodreads, but there are so many from when I was a kid that I will never remember 🙁 1500 is quite a number though, congrats on that milestone! I wish I had the time to read a book a day!
Oh dear, I once dropped my favourite book in the bath and cried…a lot. My mum ended going out the next day and buying me a new copy just to shut me up!
I can’t wait to see your book as a cake, I’m sure it will be delicious! Nice to get to know you a bit more 🙂
YES MY ELBOWS. AND, LIKE, THE TOP OF MY HEAD. Behold. It’s basically all of me with just a few features missing. *nods* (But hey I neeearly have a profile pic on my about page! Only a camera in front of my face there. :P) And yesss you should definitely do one, Hannah!!
I basically read children’s classics until I was 17. xD No regrets, but I AM sad I missed out on some of hte more magical books (ergo Harry Potter) when I would’ve been a better age for them. *sighs* the 1500 is just an estimate BUT YEAH. XD I reckon it’s not too far off. hehe.
AWK THAT IS SAD TOO. Bathing books is not good. :'( At least you have an understanding mother. XDXD
First off this comment is going to be short because I am typing with one hand, secondly GOODREADS! Ok, I’ve been wanting to ask you to consider doing a huge favor for a while now, and I figured now was the right time to petition you. Is there any way you can mark your reviews on Goodreads that you are later going to put on here? Because I like to read your reviews on Goodreads, but I always look forward to you blog posts so much and use reading them as rewards for myself, so I get sad when I start reading a review on your blog only to realize that I’ve already read it on Goodreads. (This problem should make you quite happy, by the way.)
1. I’ve read around 140 books this year, and maybe two this month? That’s what NaNo and focusing on reading through the Bible will do to me.
2. The books I read average out at about 250 pages each, so not huge.
3. I like reading non-fiction physical books and generally read more fiction e-books than physical, although that is more of the connivence factor than anything else.
4. I have to take a few second break when I get to an exciting part in a book, just to breath and focus on something else.
5. I really enjoy reading book reviews and book blurbs and can spend hours doing it.
(Why are you typing with one hand? I hope it is because you’re holding a baby or a kitten or a small dinosaur AND NOT BECAUSE A SHARK ATE YOUR HAND OR SOMETHING. *hyperventilates with imaginings*) AHEM. XD Ohhhh, I CAN TOTALLY DO THAT FOR YOU. 😉 I’ll try to remember, okay?! I should also thank publishers in my Goodreads reviews. o.O Aaaand link to my blog. Omg, all the things I never remember to do.
I can never read AND write at the same time. xD I just want to focus on one thing. *nods* And next year I actually plan to read faaaar less and write more (I’m aiming for reading 300 books atm!! I’m at 276 I think) I procrastinate books I’m really excited about. XDXD IT’S CRAZY RIGHT?!!? But I get too excited and can’t read them!!
AAHHHH I MUST DO THIS TAG. I love tags and I’ve been tagged in like six that I’ve never gotten around to doing. BUT I MUST DO THIS ONE. (because you tagged me, obviously, but also because I just really need to do tags… especially the ones I’m tagged for XD)
yES YOU MUST. I have like an entire LIST of tags I haven’t done yet. *gulps* But this one was too much fun and I HAD TO DO IT STRAIGHT AWAY. XD
YOUR BOOKSHELF THOUGH. IT’S SO FULL AND GORGEOUS. Which brings me to my first fact.
1: My bookshelf is sadly small. And partly empty. So small + empty = I need more books.
2: I didn’t actually read Narnia until the first movie was getting ready to come out.
3: It took me 3 years to read the Lord of the Rings books. Basically it took me like three or four days to read The Hobbit, and a little longer than that to read The Fellowship of the Ring, and then I started The Two Towers and was like BLAHHH. It was so sloww and it dragged on foreverr and then I took a break at the end of the year to read Christmas books and so the thing just sat with a bookmark in it for like a year until I reluctantly picked it up again. Then I finally finished it and I was so excited to be done with it that it took me much less time to read The Return of the King. Don’t get me wrong, I do love the books, but it was taking me so long to finish them and I was tired of not being done and basically by the time I finished I never wanted to see them again. xD
4. When I was younger I was a part of this horse book club and every month I got sent two books and over the course of five years I collected a scary amount of these books and that’s pretty much a big percentage of my reading experience.
5. The first book I remember reading in one day was Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix. I think I cried at the end too.
Ha. I’m surprised I was able to come up with that many.
Also, your book pictures makes me want to read all books. -flails-
AWW THANK YOU. MY BOOKSHELF IS LIFE BASICALLY. And oh oh every bookworm needs more books. *nods* I don’t really think there’s such a thing as having “enough books”, tbh. It took me 3 months to read through the first LOTR. 0_0 And I realised I was only reading it to say I’d read it and that wasn’t a very good reason so I quite the series. XD I think I’d do better on the audios though??!
EEEP THANK YOU THOUGH. <3 I love book pictures, heheeh.
I’ve been tagged! I’ve been tagged!
*Does a happy dance*
Sorry, blogging firsts excite me 😉
It’s your first tag?! OH WELL SQUEE THEN. XD If you don’t mind tags, I’ll tag you in more things. 😉
NNNNNEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH YAY FOR BOOKISH FACTS! But yes, I would kind of rather have seen your face, you awesome girl. 😉 NO MATTAH. THESE ARE BRILLIANT. “I am an unfocused pineapple.” < AHFDKSDNNKJSN. But so am I. And that is freaking crazy that you can read a whole book in one day!! Like…even for an unfocused pineapple, that is amazing. O_O And I really wish I had your ability to focus on writing for hours without twitching. Like…that would be just cool. Very cool.
YOUR BOOK PHOTOGRAPHY IS AWESOME. And you have like, the bestest bookish instagram ever, soo…..that totally makes up for not knowing every detail about how to work your camera. 😉 ” I didn’t grow up reading Harry Potter. I grew up on Narnia. FOR NARNIA! AND FOR ASLAN!” *SCREAMS FOREV * DUUUUUUUDE YES THANK YOU FOR THAT. ♥ Narnia is the best. Ever. 1500 books WHAAAAAT?!!?!? Okay, like…every time you write a post you just amaze me, so imma stop blathering on and freaking out.
WHAAAAAT YOU WERE MENTIONED IN THE BACK OF SCARLET!?!?!!?!?!? (okay i totally lied about the not freaking out thing sorry it’s just gonna happen.) THAT IS AMAZING THAT IS AWESOME OMG. I NEED TO SEE THIS. GAH. ““I can’t carry the bag, Cait,” they whine, “I can only carry one book.” THIS IS THE STORY OF HOW I GOT MUSCLES.” AND THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT WOULD MAKE A BRILLIANT SHORT STORY. Just saying. I would read it. Like, so much. xD
Oh man, I don’t think I can even think of five bookish facts…heh. I shall try though.
1. It usually takes me several months to read a book.
2. I plot stories intensely and way too fast for my brain capacity. I always have at least 3-4 book ideas swimming around in my head at a time.
3. I run from writing research like the plague. And then I actually do the research and learn new things and I’m like, “cool that was fun let’s do it some more!”
4. I’m still freaking out over the mention in Scarlet. Like…that is so cool, girl! Your rock da boat.
5. I detest audio book readers who read with LITERALLY NO LIFE. It’s sad.
over and out with lots of love,
abbiee ♥
BUT BOOOOOOK. So much more interesting than my face. XD *dies laughing* (I’m just really shy and avoid cameras, which is why you never see my face online. That’s the only reason. :P) Ahem. Aaaanyway. but yES. Being an unfocused pineapple is a tiring then. WE CAN BE PINEAPPLES TOGETHER IN THIS MATTER.
Awww, thank you. XD I dream of venturing off automatic one day. HAHAHA. But let’s face it: automatic is easy. 😉 Narnia IS life. Omg NARNIAN HI FIVE. And the 1500 is just an estimate. XD I really have no idea because I also have the memory of a very holey piece of swiss cheese. XD AND YES I’M FAMOUS (KINDA). It’s in the edition with a red strip on the cover. :’)
Oh oh you are a plotter?! YAY FOR PLOTTERS. *happy sigh* I have 2 INTENSE ideas begging to be written right now. And I’m trying to ignore them because I NEED TO EDIT OMG. *sweats and tries to ignore pestering ideas*
Well well well. Can I just say I already KNEW most of these things? I am a PROUD FOLLOWER. Secondly, DAMN Cait, you give a whole new meaning to the word pineapple. It is a sure thing – I must try Stiefvater. TBH I HATED Shiver, so I just…stopped? This was five years ago. You need to convince me to pick up another one of her books lol. Also… -.- When will you learn? You MUST tag me in all things that require TAGGING REMEMBER.
Btw, YES I grew up without Harry Potter too – who says us Harry Potter-less children were devoid of magic? *sneers*
HHH I’M SORY MADIHA!! I shall try to remember to tag you next time. XD I never know who to tag so this is good! 😛 And yessss, pineapple is my own word now. *nods* Also if you didn’t like Shiver you cooould still try The Scorpio Races? And if you don’t like that WELL THEN I JUST DESPAIR OF YOU AND SHALL SHUN YOU FOREVER.
(Kidding, kidding. :P)
CAIIIITTT AAAAAH I THINK WE’RE TWINS.
High fives for growing up on Narnia! And I actually have never picked up a Harry Potter book. Too much sorcery magic for me. I like more “natural magic” kind of thing. *shrugs*
SPEAKING OF AUDIOBOOKS, Jaye L. Knight’s first Ilyon book j.u.s.t. came out in audiobook version! Like, today! http://jayelknight.blogspot.com/2015/11/resistance-audiobook-giveaway.html
And ALSO speaking of recommendations, the second book in the series has WONDERFUL DRAGONS. I even have a dragon necklace, because yes. Jaye made it. GLORY.
1. I didn’t start reading YA until last November. And I only read The Scorpio Races and The Hunger Games this year. I read mostly indie YA because…I don’t even know why. I like knowing authors and making them my friends and then fangirling to them directly. (And getting snippets. Because that is just awesome.)
2. Ashamedly, I admit that I am not a fast reader. I mean, I can be. But life gets in the way of reading and I don’t always have the TIME to sit down and devour an entire book. GAH. I LOVE books. I think that people think I’m being lazy when I sit down and read. (This is why I like long car rides, because no one can accuse me of “wasting time” reading which I would OBVIOUSLY not be doing in the first place.)
3. PAPERBACKS ARE BETTER THAN EBOOKS, HANDS DOWN. Who doesn’t like the feel of a glorious-smelling feels-made-out-of-a-tree chunk of matter that can make you cry and laugh and want to snuggle it and throw it across the room? UM. I LIKE IT, EXCUSE ME. Nevertheless I do have a Kindle. Because I’m not rich. And because I beta read and alpha read books. And Kindles are convenient.
4. I wrote the first draft of the description for this book, and my name is also in the back of the book. And my review is FIRST on Goodreads and third on Amazon (under Beth Beguerie, because it’s my mom’s Amazon account.)
http://www.amazon.com/Water-Princess-Prince-Rizkaland-Legends/dp/1515225526/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448037398&sr=8-1&keywords=water+princess+fire+prince
AMAZING BOOK. REEEEEAAAADDDD IT.
5. I LEARNED TO READ WHEN I WAS TWO. AND I HAVE BEEN GULPING BOOKS MONSTROUSLY EVER SINCE. Yes, that’s right.
YAYYYYY!!! TWINS!!! *hi fives for Narnian epicness* I really do love HP and I like the darker magic too, but I think I would’ve liked it better as a kid?! I’m a bit more critical now. XD
Agh, I do understand the “wasting time” attitude. >_> It sucks, but bookworms do get that a lot. *heavy sigh for our persecuted selves* PAPERBACKS FTW TOO, I SAY. I do like ebooks for travelling convenience, but paperbacks just feel better in my hands. :’)
DUDE. READING WHEN YOU WERE 2??!?! Am I in the presence of genius here?!? OMG.
Okay so I think the first and most obvious question is, what did you read before you were 17??? I am actually dying of curiosity. And also, can I just say that hearing that you grew up on Narnia too makes me so happy? They have always been my favourite books, and I am just as in love with them now as when I was younger. <3 I used to say that I wanted to marry Prince Caspian when I grew up (still true.) And I was late to the HP bandwagon as well… but I'm loving it now. 🙂
Cool post! Loved hearing more about you.
I was reading classic children books! 😛 Like Caddie Woodlawn and Johnny Tremain and Little House on the Prairie. XD AHH I’M SO GLAD YOU lOVED NARNIA TOO!! My childhood friend had basically married herself to Prince Caspian. XD I wanted Edmund. hehe.e And I wanted to be best friends with Shasta!! 😀
All these answers. I grew up on Narnia too, and I’m only now getting into Harry Potter. And I’m kind of glad? Like, I don’t know, I think Harry Potter (especially the later books), would have bothered me as a child. Actually, The Last Battle bothered me, so there’s that. So let’s see, five bookish facts about me–well, I moved to a different state to live with my sister but I couldn’t bring a ton of stuff so I could only bring less than half my books, and already the bookshelves at my new place are almost full. Oops. And I miss having all my books around me and this needs to change soon. But I was driving, so I could only fit so much in one go, but still. THE PAIN. Gah. Anyway, fact two: I wrote a book review of Ruthless a while back and the author read it and shared it on her Facebook page and told her followers that they needed to read my blog. So that was exciting. I’m friends(ish) with a published author who read one of my books when I was sixteen and gave me feedback. I go through bouts of copious reading and bouts of no reading, and when I’m not reading it’s because I’m writing. But I can’t seem to write rough drafts and read books at the same time. My mind can’t really multitask that well. And then for the fifth fact, I love YA so much, but mostly because of the book covers. Like, I love the style of YA book covers so much, that was really what got me into YA in the first place. Like you, I think The Hunger Games was one of my first YA books, and before that I was a weird child and read mostly adult novels. Which was probably not the best idea ever.
Also, I am still only like halfway through Clash of Kings and I want to finish it and I want to read the rest someday, but I’ve been drafting and busy and crazy, so I’m not sure when I’ll get a chance to tackle it. But I will! Because I love it and I hate it and gah.
I think I would’ve enjoyed HP more as a kid. XD sometimes I feel too critical of them!! (And I haaaate Hermione/Ron ship. OMG UGH.) hehe
Aww, that is sad you had to leave your baby books. I hope you can collect them one day! 😀 Being surrounded by books = life, basically.
WOWOWOW. THAT IS AWESOME OF THAT AUTHOR!! 😀 You’re basically famous, right?! *nods*
And me too! Me TOO!! Either I read or a write. No in between. And next year I actually hope to read less and write MORE, because I feel like writing keeps taking a back burner for me because it’s more fun to read. XD
Clash of Kings is honestly the boringest one (although the ending is adjfkalds wonderful) BUT AFTER THAT OMG. Storm of Swords is my FAVOURITE BOOK OF THE UNIVERSE. It is so sad. I hate it. But it’s my favourite. OMG YoU KNOW HOW I FEEL.
I grew up on Narnia, too (hooray!), and not Harry Potter, although now I am growing to love it dearly. But Narnia is awesome! ^-^ And I can’t believe you got onto a real live book O.O I MUST SEE THIS *goes to check out Scarlet from library again*
As always, I couldn’t but flail over the glorious bookish pics in this post. I love them so much! Books are the most beautiful thing in existence. Glorious. Beautiful. I NEED A THESAURUS.
Yay for Narnian childhoods!! *hi fives* And same! I quite like Harry Potter now (although I probably would’ve appreciated it more as a small bean. XD BUT STILL.)
AFJDLSAKD THANK YOU. <3 I'm so glad you like my pictures!! *beams happily*
YES SASSY DIALOGUE IS THE BEST EVER. IF ONLY I WAS THAT SASSY. Ahhh I loved this post Cait! I have never read Harry Potter either… I just… ten year old me was a frightened little broccoli and it wasn’t until I read The Mortal Instruments two years ago that I realised, hey wait a minute, fantasy is amazing. WHAT WAS I SO SCARED OF??? So yeah I might have missed out on Hogwarts but at least my love of fantasy & magic has awakened. If the lemon tree went on a road trip to find a citrus assassin, PLOT TWIST the assassin is actually a raspberry. Then there could be a horde of all these tiny raspberries chasing a gigantic lemon tree and it would be absolute comedy genius.
I DESPERATELY NEED TO READ A MAGGIE STIEFVATER BOOK, WHY HAVEN’T I DONE THIS ALREADY?! ;-D
Awww, poor ten-year-old you the frightened Broccoli. *sniffles on your behalf* But, tbh, I was an extremely scared child myself. xD I got nightmares from watching a movie of Jack in the Beanstalk!! SO YEAH.
I DON’T KNOW WHY YOU HAVEN’T READ A STIEFVATER BOOK, REBEKAH. YOU SADDEN ME. 😉 ):
Well you’re a giant dork. But I already knew that.
When I turned 20, my brother in law send me a card that said, “You’re HOW OLD? In dog years that’s like…. Dead.” And that popped into my mind when you’re talking about being an ancient melon lol.
Speaking from an artist’s point of view rather than an author’s… I FEEL YA when you read books and then get discouraged about you’re own writing… BECAUSE I DO THE SAME THING with illustrations. Like Burdge…. Or Trina Schart-Hyman…. or Tony DiTerlizzi (I think that’s how you spell his name.) Either I look at their art and go, “I am INSPIRED! I will art ALL THE THINGS!” or I shamedly hide my sketchbooks and go, “I will never art again.” and there’s really no inbetween.
…. I totally just made all the comment about me, and I apologize for that.
Anyway. I go.
Bai.
I think you mean “FABULOUS GIANT DORK”. YEs yes that’s better.
BAHAHHAAH. THAT’S THE MEANEST CARD OVER. XD I’m turning 22 in a few months and omg I can’t even think about it. Soooo oooooold. And I didn’t even save the world when I was 16. I’m such a failure. *sighs*
Pfft, you were SUPPOSED to make the comment all about you. XD I just spent like over a thousand words talking about me. HEHEHE. AHEM. And I get it with the inspiration. I DOOOOO. I’m either inspired or discouraged. AGh.
I don’t think I started reading YA until 22. I guess Harry Potter counts, but I’m not going to count it (since it’s MG-.YA).
I wish I could read a book in a day, then I wouldn’t always be so behind on my GR challenge!!
YAY I AM NOT ALONE IN MY LATE YA-ISH-NESS. And that’s a big reason I really love YA!! It can suit anyone in any stage of life, right?!? XD
You should NOT feel guilty about loving GoT. Yeah it has some dark stuff that even I hate but the guys writing in Fantasy is masterpiece and just that is enough.
For dragon books, try The Dragon Keeper (Rain Wild Chronicles #1)
by Robin Hobb .- his writing is pretty awesome.
5 books facts about me ummm
1. I grew up on Harry Potter. I loved writing it, I was so damn sad it ended I actually NEVER finished reading the last book,…oops
2. A wrinkle in time was the first fantasy i ever read.
3. I have more books in my house then space so i reserve to ebooks. On that note my cloud has over 5000 books on it, see something i cant have outside of my ereader.
4.Fantasy was my favorite genre growing up but as I got older i read less of it now 🙁 maybe duo to time constraints since it requires a lot of attention.
5.I love meeting other book lovers online and i do go for recommendations. i have reads books that blogs i followed loved.
Oops I loved reading Harry Potter. I did NOT write it. Some mistakes up there, was typing with one hand while baby slept, lol.
Hehe, your’e right. XD I shouldn’t feel guilty about Got…but I really hate the way he treats women?! Like sometimes it’s historically accurate, I get it. But I think it goes into gratuitous violence sometimes and it’s horrible. *heavy sigh* BUT THE WORLD BUILDING OMG.
OH I LOVED A WRINKLE IN TIME!! I could seriously handle rereading that about now…*happy sigh* Good memories there. But wow over 5K ebooks?!?! You will have things to read for the rest of your life. XD
Oh oh and I agree that fantasy requires a lot of focus. I prefer fantasies on audios because I tend to take in all the details instead of skimming something important. XD
Ooh this looks fun! I’m gonna do it now. lol
I didn’t start reading YA till later in life as well, parentals thought it was trash.. I was raised on Dickens, Tolstoy and such people. Which means I now have a hard time reading YA books because they sometimes seem so…fluffy? Compared to what I usually read. Idk.
I wish I knew how many books I’ve read too! Gosh I wish I could have had Goodreads in my life since the start of my reading days. 😀
I also get tired of reading, after I’ve gone on a huge reading binge my eyes and brain freak out and tell me to stop.
Also I’ve never really gotten in to audiobooks, mostly because I never know how the voices will sound and I like hearing the voices in my head better. 😀
YAYYYY!!! I can’t wait to read your post! *dances wildly*
Aw, that is sad about your parents. D: My parents didn’t even really know about YA I don’t think??? I’m pretty sure they don’t really love it, haha, but I can’t stand classics. :O
If I ever have kids (BAH) I will totally record EVERY book they’ve ever read and they’ll have these like huge spreadsheets by the time their 10 years old and they’ll be so embarrassed of me but SO VERY THANKFUL BECAUSE I WILL BE AWESOME. *nods*
Lol thanks! It might be awhile till I actually post it, but who knows. Maybe I’ll be super inspired. 😛
Yeah. My mom thinks it’s dumb for me to be so old and read YA., but I just shrug. Classics can be hard to read, they’re long and sometimes go on windy paths that have nothing to do with the plot. So when it comes to plot normally I prefer YA for condensed easy to read lit. But if I want really deep characters I’d go with a classic any day. I’m just too much of an intellectual I guess. 😀
OMG. Best idea ever! I’m totally stealing it. 😉 I wish someone had done that for me! lol
Aslan does make for a magical childhood! Have you read Seraphina for dragons? Lovely books.
yesSSSS I LOVE SERAPHINA. I need to read the sequel, but it’s been like 3 years since Seraphina so I also want to reread it. *nods*
Your book photography is amazing Cait, you silly bean. I dabble in photography and I am so jealous of your skills.
I dropped Percy Jackson : Sea of Monsters in the tub, so don’t even worry about the puddle.
Awww, thank you Skye!! And I’ve seen your photos and THEY’RE AMAZING TOO!! I will forever love your Series of Unfortunate Events shoot!!
OMG POOR PERCY JACKSON. :'(
I loved reading this, Cait! 😀 damn, one book in a day, that’s crazy, I wish I could do that, too. There are just SO many books to read, and SO little time. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who didn’t read Harry Potter in her childhood. I only read all of them a few years ago, right after seeing all the movies. 🙂 And thank you for this, thanks to you I know that reading Maggie Stiefvater NEED to be now my priority 😀
IT IS A BIT CRAZY, I AGREE. XD Although I don’t always get through a book idea!! The bigger ones slow me down. 😛 Illuminae took 3 days, omg. That book is gargantuan. And yessss, non-childhood-Harry-Potters unite! I do love them now, but it’s always nice to know I’m not alone for not having read them as a Small Human. XD
YOU HAVEN’T READ ANY STIEFVATER BOOKS YET?!! OMG. MARIE. GET ONTO THIS.
Wait, Maggie Stiefvater is your favorite author?! (Kidding…)
#11 is SO TRUE.
I love this list, Cait. I think you’re pretty awesome, but I guess you already knew that. 😀
My brain is …. right now, so I’m struggling to think of any bookish facts about myself.
Umm. I love books. A lot. Other people say they love books, but I don’t think they understand that it’s not just loving books, it’s LIVING books. I can’t end a day without reading at least a few pages. My brain doesn’t function without books.
Also, I’ve read at least part of the first Harry Potter book in four languages.
I do keep my favourite author info rather a closeted secret I KNOW. OMG.
Awww, you are awesome TOO, I MIGHT JUST ADD.
And I totally get it! I DO. Loving books is different to feeling like they actually physically make up who you are. Half the time I’m like “Do I do this certain thing because I’ve always done it or because I got it from a book somewhere?” MY LIFE IS BOOKS.
OMG YOU CLEVER LANGUAGE COOKIE.
1) if anyone touches, mentions, shows me, sniffs, reads, yells, or even eats anything to do with The False Prince. i explode. this is why no one really says anything about the book in front of my face anymore because they’re getting annoyed of picking up tiny bits of me and glueing them back together
2) if you show me a YA book and a Middle School book, i will 99% of the time pick the Middle School one because Middle school books are basically the living version of love
3) this November, i’ve only finished one book. but i have an excuse…NaNo.
4) i’m thinking about starting a blog called lines of the middle where i review Middle School books and do other bookish/writing things.
5) when someone takes a book away from me, i go into withdraw symptoms. seriously, ask anyone in my science class last year.
So if I happened to whisper reeeeally softly….The Faaaalse Priiiiince….you would explode? *grins evilly*
OMG YOU’rE DOING NANO?!?! HOW IS IT GOING?!?!? ARE YOU SURVIVING?!? I didn’t read anything while I was writing either! I can’t focus on reading and writing. Oooh, and if you start a blog I will definitely be reading. 😀
1. I’d like to “read” more audiobooks, but they have a tendency to put me to sleep. One of the last ones I listened to, I probably technically listened to it more than once… because I kept having to back up huge sections and re-listen because I’d fallen asleep the first time! This is a very inconvenient problem.
2. I am old enough to remember when library books were checked out with a card that got a due date stamped on it and was then tucked into a little pocket inside the cover. Also, I learned how to use a card catalogue… with actual cards. (Looking back at how we used to have to write papers for school in the days before the Internet, I’m amazed. I seriously don’t know how we did it. I do remember it was laborious and slow… and if the library didn’t have the book you wanted, you were pretty much out of luck.)
3. I read more YA as an adult than I did as a teenager. To be fair, though, there wasn’t a ton of YA around back then. We had Judy Blume and Paula Danziger… but not much else.
4. I didn’t grow up with Harry Potter, either. I was already an adult (just) by the time he came on the scene. Beverly Cleary’s books were the ones I was raised on and couldn’t wait to read (even though most of them were already out by the time I read them).
5. I have too many books. That’s not an exaggeration, either. A bunch of them are stacked on the shelf in my closet, which is now bowed so much that the middle is sitting on the rod and I can’t move the clothes hangers back and forth. See? I have literally too many books. Although, I guess if you’re going to have too much of something, books aren’t the worst thing you could have. Termites would be bad. So would zits. And single socks (because the washing machine ate the mates).
1. Omg! I can’t imagine that being annoying for you!! I always do something while I listen, because if I just say or lay down I’d probably doze off too. xD I origami, mostly, or go walking. *nods*
2. I REMEMBER STAMPING BOOKS TOO!! OMG! I DO!! I was probably 8 or 9? But I totally remember reading the dates of people who’d got it out before me. Idek why, but it amused me to know how popular a book was. XD
3. SAAAAME. Although I never read Judy Blume and etc. I just read historical fiction and Narnia.
4. RAMONA QUIMBY FOREVER. <3
5. Easiest solution is to get rid of clothes. *nods* Or everything, actually. My sister plans to move out and I'm measuring her room up for my new library. (My parents don't know about this, so shhhh.)
Are those headphones comfortable? Sorry for the random question but my last headphones were like that and MY EARS. THEY HURT. Lol. The Hunger Games was one of my first YAs too! After that I started reading more and more books! And congrats of being mentioned in Scarlet! 5 facts about me… 1) Favourite book series ever is The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey, 2) I didn’t grow up with Harry Potter either, 3) I love pretty covers and to stare at them too #notashamed, 4) sometimes I get bored of reading and even prefer studying #sorrynotsorry, 5) I can’t focus in just one book. I need to be reading more than one, haha
nOOOOO THEY AREN’T COMFORTABLE. *breaks down sobbing* I mean, they’re all I have, but someday I’m going to actual save my poor little ears their torture and get some decent headphones. >_> Ahem. Hunger Games is like a gateway to YA right?!? FOREVER LOVE IT FOR THAT.
Omg, I did not guess you’d say The Monstrumologist as favourite book. 😉 *DIES LAUGHING* HEHE. Oh and by the way your constant raving did convince me!! I have it on my list of books to get from the library soon!!
I totally read several books at once too!! Right now I’m only reading one and it’s an autobiography and it’s boring. >_> So I shall be starting something else directly.
I’m scared of breaking my spines too, haha. Oh a dragon series I love is the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C Wrede! It’s a bit more on the young age of YA but it’s magical (:
I’ve been slowly expanding into audiobook! So far, it’s still mostly autobiographies, but I’m think of doing Name of the Wind next. I also judge books by the covers, sometimes it can’t be helped.
Oooh, I’ll google that one too!! THANK YOU CYN!! 😀 I totally think there should be more epicy actiony YA dragon books *nods*
And no shame for cover judging here. *hi fives*
AKSJDSJDF THANKS FOR TAGGING ME CAIT! <3 I adore tags and can't wait to do this one. ^_^ (AFTER NaNo methinks. XD)
Such fun reading aaaall of the bookish facts about you!
O_O Where did the mockingjay necklace come from?? SO PRETTY.
Dragon books… Dealing With Dragons and Searching For Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede, are fabulous! <3 Also The Reluctant Dragon by Kenneth Grahame. (I actually haven't read a large amount of dragon books either. *guilty look*) OH! BUT THERE'S YOUR NANO WHICH IS ABOUT DRAGONS. YOU SHOULD READ THAT. I BETCHA IT'S AWESOME! 😀
Narniaaaaaaaaa! <3 (I also grew up on those instead of HP. XD)
BUT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY IS SO AMAZING AND I LURVE IT! (Also I like how you put your name in the middle of the pic, aligned with the side of the books… THAT IS SO COOL.)
You never find reviewing to be a chore? EVER? :O I AM IN AWE.
Not sure if I'm a human buuuut sometimes I get books on your recommendation. ^_^
I'm mixed on audiobooks…
I'M SO PROUD OF YOU GETTING YOUR NIECE AND NEPHEW INTO BOOKS. YOU AWESOME PERSON YOU.
You're a magnificent dragon. 😀
CAN'T WAIT TO DO THIS TAG THANKS AGAIN! ^_^
Yessss. Let NaNo be your focus. XD I TOTALLY GET THAT!!
I don’t actually know where the Mockingjay necklace came from!! It was a birthday gift…best of ever. :’) I like never wear it though because it is a necklace, but it’s SO LONG. And I almost always end up smacking a small child in the face with it. Which does ruin my title of Fabulous Aunty. Hmm.
HAHAHHA. YES. Omg. *pokes at NaNo book with a long long pole* I should…edit that mess or something…
AHHH THANK YOU THO. <3 I realised I needed to do something about the watermark because people were stealing my photos and cropping them out. D: So hopefully this will work and not be too ugly. XD I'm always freaked that watermarks are ugly!!
*RAWRS POLITELY* YES. I am dragonishly happy. ^-^
CUTE PIC! xD Yes you LOVE Maggie Stiefvater, I know that by heart now but want to know an unfortunate fact, maybe close your ears, or eyes in this case, you maybe scarred for life, I had to DNF The Raven Boys, couldn’t even reach 50% and I was bored out of my mind. But I plan on giving ait a try soon enough.
YOU ALIVE???!
*continues as if nothing as happened*
And yup, I didn’t grow up reading Harry Potter either, I’m in the process of reading it and I yes I have seen the Hunger Games boxset, I plan on buying myself for it soon enough, hopefully.
And yeah, GREAT POST!! Hilarious as ever! 🙂
OMGGG. I CAN’T EVEN LOOK AT YOU RIGHT NOW, POULAMI. OMG. I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS. *COLLAPSES IN THE CORNER SOBBING* HOW COULD YOU BREAK MY HEART LIKE SO.
*hyperventilates*
XDXD I shall forgive you, but just barely. 😉
Focused pineapple? Inept flailing melon? All I can say is: Why didn’t I find your blog sooner? I absolutely love your quirky word choice, and I totally agree with you about the bookish age thing. I’m 16, but I feel like I’m 1000000 years old. Sometimes I’ll talk to adults (crazy right) and I’ll say something and their amazed I use certain words and phrases. I don’t understand why people think children are supposed to be illiterate fools, but enough on this rant. Thanks for being an awesome (melon?) person! 🙂
AHHH WELCOME TO THE MADNESS, AUBREY!! *gives you welcome pineapple cake* AJFDKLASD THANK YOU THOUGH. hehe. I’m with you on feeling 100000 years old too. Omg. :O We are just old souls, tbh. My nephew, who is 5, is already guilty of using literary words. The other day he’s like “Perhaps you should do this, CAit.” And I’m like “PERHAPS??!?!” He’s adorable. XD
Awwww! He sounds adorable 🙂 Thanks for the cake! Have you ever had pineapple cake, or are you just obsessed with pineapples? Are they good?
JUST OBSESSED. XD Actually I have had pineapple cake. But the true reason behind my “pineappleness” is beacuse of Psych. Have you ever seen it? Shawn is like “Wanna split a pineapple?” as his introductory greeting and idek, I just started saying pineapple all the time. XD
Haha 🙂 No. I haven’t seen Psych. Is it good? Pineapples are a great fruit!
Ah yes dragon books…I like the DragonKeeper Chronicles (I think that’s what they’re called) by Donita K. Paul.
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to an audiobook.
I read like all of the Magic Tree House books and probably a good number of the Boxcar Children when I was younger!
I love the Artemis Fowl books
And…I used to be like your niece, always having to have enough to read on vacation (and sometimes having to find a bookstore part way through!)
Ooooh, I should check them out because I NEED TO READ A MILLION MORE DRAGON BOOKS. *hyperventilates with need* I think I read like 50 Boxcar Children books. XD I’m pretty sure I still own them too! I mean, they kind of sounded the same after a while, right? BUT I COULDN’T STOP READING.
1. I met Marissa Meyer yesterday.
2. Maggie Stiefvator is in my search history about five times a day. (Her last name is hard to spell!)
3. I started reading YA because of dear Stiefvator.
4. I’m the only “hard core” reader in my family. (“Hey Dad? Want to read Cinder before the big finale? Oh ok… never mind.”)
5. I have to read the book before I watch the movie. (BECAUSE BOOKS ARE ALWAYS BETTER.)
anna | annaish
AFJDKLSAD REALLY?!?!?! MARISSA MEYER!>!???!? SQUEEEE. That is so so awesome. And I seriously actually physically sat down and taught myself to write “Stiefvater” because I was all “If this is going to be my favourite author, we gotta get things right.”
I’m the only hardcore reader in my family too. :'( My sister used to be, but now…Idek. She’s lost to me. *sobs dramatically*
MAGGIE STIEFVATER. I feel like every comment I make on your blog relates back to her somehow. And I am glad to see you are getting your niece and nephew to read! I’m also thankful you love book photography–since I like admiring it. If I could grant your book deal for you, I would! We need to find you a book deal granting fairy. That IS a thing…right?
AND IT’S NOT A BAD THING, AMIRITE? MAGGIE STIEFVATER FOR ALL THE THINGS. *ahem*
Yes yes please. Let’s go on a book-deal-fairy hunt and track down one and get ourselves book deals for christmas. *nods* WE’LL DO IT.
Ahh, it’s so nice getting to know more things about the bloggers that you’ve been following for years! Just like you, I LOVE Audiobooks — but I only discovered this love recently. I used to hate them because I always get distracted and miss chunks of the story, but now I pay more attention and they’re just glorious!! And yes to more dragons. ALWAYS MORE DRAGONS!!
AWWW, THANKS JOY! <3 I agree though! I like to know more about the blogger-behind-the-blog too. hehe. BUT YES OMG. I used to hate audio books because...gah. They were too slow?! But honestly I can remember a book perfectly if I audio-booked it. Even years later. While books I read myself basically fall out of my brain tomorrow. -_-
Aw, fun post! I…never read the Chronicles of Narnia books. I had the first book (0r second, whatever- The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). I read a lot of it but it just wasn’t for me. I DID grow up on Harry Potter though. I think I got more into YA once I started blogging, but I’ve always read it. I guess I just read a lot of adult books in high school.
I guess YA didn’t used to be so much of a “thing” too, right?! I didn’t barely know it existed until I was 16/17. XD hehe. But my house was also FULL of amazing MG books so I was just busy devouring all of those.
You are my favorite blogger! I hope you know that. I don’t have 5 things to share about myself xD but I just wanted to let you know that YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY IS BEAUTIFUL! People generally shoot bookish photos in the same way all the time, but I always find yours to be clever and really ….clear? They’re just kind of like reflections of YOU- bookish, to the point, and creative. GAWD you’re cool in a nerdy bookish hilarious way (which is honestly the best way possible).
AFDJASKLD REALLY?!?! OMGGGGGG. I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS INFORMATION?!? I SHALL FLAIL! I SHALL HUG YOU! HUZZAH AND CAKE! *composes self* But yes. Ahem. Awk and I’m glad you like my pictures. x) And my blog. Omg. :’)
Love, love, LOVE this post Cait! It’s so great getting to know other members of the blogging community. ♥ I, too, am a huge fan of the Hunger Games (everyone gasps in surprise because who knew Zoe and Cait liked the same books 😉 ), and it was the series that propelled me into reading YA as well. And Goodreads is life. I would live on that website if I could. And LOL…I pretty much buy 90% of my books based on your recommendations Cait – because I know I’ll love them. 😉 Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post!
*GAASSSPS* *FALLS OVER IN SHOCK* WE WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN YOU liKE THE HUNGER GAMES, ZOE. hehe. *ahem* The other day I was seriously in the middle of writing a review and goodreasd went down for maintenance. CUE HORROR STATIONS. I managed to copy my review but stiiiiill. It makes me absolutely fret when I can’t get on the site. XD
I was actually thinking of making a post like this and just haven’t gotten to it. I’ll have to transfer it from my brain to my computer. 🙂 I too am in love with The Game of Thrones for the world building and a few characters. My husband and I just recently started watching it. We just finished the 2nd season. I specifically like Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Arya Stark, Bran Stark, and Jon Snow. I don’t like the gore and nearly gave up on it after the second or third episode and an issue with the wolves. But I was already hooked on a few characters.
Yessss, DO IT. It’s always fun to spill our bookish quirkinesses, right?! 😛 And agh, yes GoT is totally violent. It’s the rape/sex that bothers me so much, and the horrible way they treat women. My brain just screams DON’T PUT UP WITH WATCHING THIS. >_> But I do love the actual storyline and ahhhh DANY!!! <3 Jon Snow and Tyrion are also my favourites.
Ok, I posted my 25. Here’s a link to it http://careyreads.blogspot.com/2015/11/25-bookish-facts-about-me.html
Woot!! I’ll go read it asap! 😀
Your blog was mentioned in ‘Scarlet’?!!! What was the mention about??
Oh I mean, in the back cover in the “acknowledgements” section!! Sorry if I didn’t make that clear. XD
ERAGON. DRAGONS. GO. It’s also medieval-ish like Game of Thrones. I think you’d love it.
OH I LOVE WRITING REVIEWS AS WELL. I especially like incorporating my book photos and then previewing the post, and marvelling at how fabulous I am 😉
I actually have that on audio and I plan to read it ASAP!! I mean…well…after I read Simon’s VS which I have on library reserve. XD Ahem. but YESSSS reviews are so fun! I love getting my thoughts all sorted out about the book. AND YES PREVIOUS + MARVELLING AT OWN GREATNESS = ME TOO.
I haven’t read that many dragon books either! While it’s not really a dragon book, I’d recommend The Invisible Library. There are dragons in it! And I have a feeling there will be more dragons in the rest of the series 🙂 Plus it’s just an awesome book haha. I mean, travelling through different worlds, spies, dragons, fairies, dragons (just noticed I wrote dragons twice but since dragons are awesome I’m going to keep it this way) and BOOKS all in one!
oooh, I shall check out The Invisible Library (!!! which sounds so cool !!!) ASAP!! Thank you, Michelle. :’)
I’m ashamed to say, I have still never read a Maggie Stiefvater book! So many people keep recommending them to me though, so I really should hurry up and get round to them. I have the feeling this will be one to those things where I’m late to the party, but then when I finally read it I get super mad at myself for not reading it sooner (that’s exactly what happened with the Game of Thrones series!).
I do absolutely love Game of Thrones though! It’s one of my absolute favourite series.
I will join the hoardes shrieking at you to read a Stiefvater book. YOU WON’T REGRET IT. HUZZAH!!! Me too with the Game of Thrones. XD I only read htem all this year and I’m dyyyying because of bk 6. Why is there no release date? *wails* WHY DID I JOIN THIS FANDOM. (I love it tough!!)
Omg Cait, I also own all of Maggie’s books in hardcover! Except… I’ve only read half of them and Sinner really didn’t do it for me T_T I’M SORRY. But I’ve been assured that The Raven Cycle is amazing and I am aiming to read it, as well as The Scorpio Races, next month!
*strokes the shiny Scorpio Races jacket* I guess I’m a book dragon too? If you haven’t read it yet, Carry On has some dragons in it!
WAHHHHH YOU BREAK MY HEART, JEANNA. *wails* The Raven Cycle is VERY slow though…so do be aware of that. I think The Scorpio Races is a better intro-to-Stiefvater *nods*
I want to read Carry On!! I’ve got my fingers crossed that my library will buy it. 😛
You finally told us all your secrets! Now we finally know the full extent of your awesomeness.
But really? Only three dragons? That must be so horrible for you – I must help. Your Goodreads says you haven’t read the DRAGONSKIN SLIPPERS series, so . . . I think you’d like that.
Thanks for the great post.
Lara Liz
yESSS. ALL SECRETS = REVEALED. Mwahaha. *ahem* I shall look up Dragonskin Slippers immediately!! THANK YOU!!
I was very excited to read this list and figure out that I knew the majority of it just by following your blog for the past few months. Internet book loving / writing friends are the best! Ever! Goodreads is amazing too!! btw I just purchased Six of Crows and The Book Thief because of you ;-]
OMG. YAY. XD You are a wonderfully dedicated follower, Erica. :’) YEAAAAAY FOR INTERNET FRIENDS. OMg. I would be lost without them. XD :’) AHHHH I HOPE YOU ENJOY SIX OF CROWS!! I’ve only got 200-pages left!! :O
I love this post!! I am 35 years old and I didn’t read YA until about five years ago. I was reading adult fiction when I was in junior high! But now, I love YA even more than adult stuff. I just adore it. I can often read books in one day too. My husband has learned not to bug me when I am reading. He does not want to get “the look.” haha
Ooh, I’m glad your husband has learnt not to mess with “The Look” XD I’m still trying to train my family on that…*sighs* XD
Clearly, The Hunger Games is fabulous. (And I totally get the not wanting to bend the cover thing, I’m super paranoid about my hardback Divergent boxset that I got for Christmas two years ago. xD )
FEEL NO GUILT FOR LIKING WHAT YOU READ!! If it makes you happy and you like it you should not feel guilty, therefor, feel no guilt. Ever. (Unless you’re doing something horrible to your books that you should feel guilt for, in which case, maybe feel a little guilt.)
Your photography is fabulous and sometimes I spend way too much time staring at it instead of being productive and stuff (but, pfft, productivity is so overrated) because it’s so pretty and aoidjfk books. (I word so well, don’t I?)
I’m the opposite, I grew up with Harry Potter but not Narnia. (And I may have only read the first book in the series so far . . . you may throw tomatoes at me now.)
Some of my friends are amazed when I tell them I write book review for fun. And I’m just like whaaaaa . . . It’s so much fun.
Authors must love you, because I buy books you’ve reviewed/recommended all the time! I’m pretty sure half of all the money our local bookstore makes is from me. *nods* I’m so responsible with my money.
I know you said not to talk about it, but–now that you said not to I feel the need to talk about it (this might be because I’m a five-year-old at heart and have no respect for authority . . . just kidding, mostly). What book did you drop in a mud puddle??
I want to read more audiobooks!! Especially with Christmas coming up, I luuurve listening to books or music while I’m wrapping presents. But sadly I’ve found very few good readers besides the amazing person that is Jim Dale. What do you recommend?
GOODREADS FOR THE WIN!!! I can’t believe I didn’t know about this until two years ago. I’m sad that I learned about it so late.
*dies laughing at #20* Huzzah for taking one for the team! I loved library day as a kid. I also read the entire children’s section and continually asked the librarians when they were going to get more books in when I was about eight. It was a sad day when I reached the end of the shelves and found I’d read them all.
#22 is a fantastic list that should be distributed to authors wordlwide, because the universe needs more of these stories. Also I want a story about an angel and demon that fall in love and become sweet and sarcastic and basically amazing together. Because yes.
I’VE SEEN THOSE CAKES HAPPEN! They taste delicious, too.
*nods frantically* Covers are everything. I love them so much. Simplistic ones are my favorite. *hugs Eleanor & Park forever*
Okay five bookish facts about me . . . ummm . . .
1. I’ve read the Harry Potter series no less than 40 times, whether on audio or physical book form. Because I finished the series when I was seven and haven’t been able to stop the addiction since. (Because the addiction is glorious!)
2. There was that time when I became friends with a famous author and am still dying a little because of it. She’s given me advice about querying agents. We’re making plans to go out and eat tacos together and play games and basically she’s just super cool.
3. I’ve read books so often that they’ve split in half and have pages taped together to keep from falling out . . . and yes, yes it is a Harry Potter book.
4. 99.9% of the time I try to read the ending of a book at night, by myself, in my room so I can cry out all my feels. Because whether it’s happy or sad, I usually cry.
5. I never ever ever purposely watch a movie before I’ve read the book. And the times that I’ve seen the words “based on the novel” when watching the opening credits, I’ve cried a little.
5 1/2. Okay so I lied, but only once have a purposely watched a movie before I read the book, and it was “Les Misérables” and I already knew how the entire thing played out, so I can forgive myself for that.
And wow this comment got long fast . . . I’ll end it here before you end up having to read a novel of my ramblings. xD
ahhaha this IS THE BEST COMMENT, KATE. <3 THANK YOU. XDXD
I don't truly believe in feeling guilty about books except when books have stuff I REALLY don't believe in *sigh* Like Game of Thrones has such a lot of woman-abuse and I'm a feminist and it really HUUURTS my brain. >_> But yet…the rest of the books are so good?! SO YEAH THAT’S WHY I FEEL BAD ABOUT LOVING THEM.
I shall NOT throw tomatoes. Because you’d have to throw them at me for not reading HP as a small bean. XD So we shall keep calm and both tomatoless. *nods* (I can’t believe you’ve read them 40 times. My mind = boggled.)
Have you read Code Name Verity or Rose Under Fire? Their audios are my FAVOURITE THING OF THE WORLD. The accents are A+. Also Disruption by Jessica Shirvington on audio is fabulous. :’) ALSO GAME OF THRONES IF YOU’RE UP FOR 48 HOUR AUDIOS AHHAHAHA. *dies*
WHAT FAMOUS AUTHOR?!?!???!?!??! I AM DYING TO KNOW?!?!?? XDXD
Hehehehe, always happy to leave extremely long comments. xD
Oh gosh yes, I know where you’re coming from. Because I’m like “nooooo, they’re all jerks, why do I like this book?!” But yes, yes I absolutely know what you mean.
Good plan! I’ll keep my tomatoes for salsa purposes only. (Audios . . . most of the rereads have been because of the audios. I still listen to them most nights as I’m falling asleep, which may or may not be the cause of my frequent Hogwarts-related dreams . . .)
Oh my wow, those are long GoT audios!! Looking at the books is one thing, but hearing that is another story entirely.
A.S. King!!!! She is the. best. Like seriously. Authors are so cool.
YAY TAGS!! First, true story, our Number 1 stories are identical. Except sub in 27 for 17, because I AM actually ancient, and you are a mere pup. (Someone older, please come along and make ME feel young, thanks.) Anyway. I read that stupid, lying list on Pinterest too, and spent a lot of money on some really NOT Hunger Games series. (Uglies, I want my money back.)
If Santa doesn’t give you a book deal, I am holding him hostage until he does. I figure, these publishers have kids, so they’ll want Santa back in action ASAP. Win-win. Because I want you to have one, but also selfishly because I KNOW your books are amazing and I need to read them. See how everyone wins when I kidnap Santa?
So cute that you thought you’d actually crack open the luxury editions. I am considering a protective casing? Do they make such a thing? They need to. If not, dibs on that idea.
P.S.: I didn’t answer your questions, because I am going to do this tag! Not because I am a jerk. 😀
YOU ARE ANCIENT, OMG, SHANNON. ANCIENT BEAN YOU. I’m really glad I wasn’t the only one sucked in by that stupid list. I will complain avidly about Uglies too. Ugh. Did you read Peak and Trapped? BECAUSE THEY WERE SO DUMB. *growls at list* I don’t think that list introduced me to anything fun at all. >_>
I think you should hold Santa hostage. *nods* Definitely do that for me, Shannon. EVERYONE WINS IF YOU KIDNAP SANTA YESSSSS.
I’m just considering buying a “useable” Hunger Games set, yes? That’ll fix all my problems. Or I could totally just library the books and stroke my editions and keep them beautiful. :’)
Ooooh, thanks for tagging us 🙂 This was a fabulous post to read; and after you got me started on the Raven Boys I read all the Maggie Steifvater books (okay most of them) and I even reread Shiver this weekend and it was pretty awesome. So my facts are
1. I am currently in the middle of Winter and I’m adoring it, but my feels are being mercilessly smashed
2. I like that I can see my shelf from my bed; it’s like my books are looking at me as I sleep
3. I love taking pictures of books
4. Libraries are the best thing ever (and I get all my audiobooks from a digital library, which is very cheap and awesome and also books are better in audio form. )
5. I have this wierd thing where I can’t reread books I originally read in audiobook form even if they were really awesome.
yAYYYYY MY MIND CONTROL POWERS HAVE WORKED MWHAHHAHAHA. *ahem* I’m so glad you liked them!! 😀
AWK. Winter is feels crushing?! I’m so so nervous for it. xD AND EXCITED. My copy is cooooming.
Digital audio libraries are. the. best. Unless one is Australia and the options are very small. >_> BUT!!! At least there are options. hehe.
Well my digital library is in New Zealand which is even smaller…. but it might just be big cities. YOu could find out I guess? It’s called Overdrive Media I think
I do use overdrive!! It’s just the branch for my library is microscopic. They have like 10 YA books and they’re not even great ones. >_> *siiiighs* I just need to move to a bigger city obviously, hehehe.
I am working on my 25 facts post at the moment and holy crap, that is hard!
1. I’m also pretty new to YA; I was 19/20 until I discovered this genre and I haven’t strayed away from it ever since.
2. No surprise here 😉 I also love the Raven boys, but haven’t had the chance to read anything else. OH, lied, I’ve read Ballad.
5. ME TOO. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just addicted and I love it to pieces.
6. You are great at bookish photography 🙂 I’m also really into it. I even purchased a new camera for it and I’m still learning how to use it, but it’s fuuuuun.
8. Never too late to join the HP fandom <3
10. Me too! I've only started collecting my reading date around 4 years ago.
11.. Books make me intensely happy. Buying them. Holding them. Reading them. Petting them on my shelves. Walking in a bookstore. So uch happiness.
12. I love writing them too! It makes it easy for me to really THINK about the book.
13. Best. THING.
14. I am mentioned in Cress *flails*
15. Yep. Sometimes I just feel like doing something else and I give in to that. Nothing shameful about it if you ask me 🙂
18. I am such an awkward turtle.
19. Goodreads = life.
Yaayyy for “Older” YA addicts like ourselves. :’) WE ARE STILL ENDLESSLY AWESOME IN THIS. Did you like Ballad?! I’m partially in love with the fabulousness that is James. *sniffles happily*
YAY FOR BOOKISH PHOTOGRAPHY!!! I’m so so glad I went ahead and got a decent camera. It’s just fuelled my love of photos, really. XD
AFJDLKSAD YOU ARE FAMOUS IN CRESS?!? THAT IS AMAZING. *hi fives for our small Lunar Chronicles fame*
Your freaking blog posts get better each and every day!! Oh wow..I didn’t know you were 17 when you first started reading and read this incredible amount of books. I’m SOO proud of you hahaha, god only knows I can’t do that and I have been reading my whole life. I stopped reading when I was about 10 to 14 and Hunger Games got me back into reading as well so it has a special place in my heart. I remember being SO hooked up on that book and I still recommend it to people to this very day.
I also didn’t grow up with Harry Potter, thank god I’m not the only one hahaha
Great post!! I love love it & PS, you inspire me to be a better blogger.. also the pictures you take are beautiful!♥ They distract me from the actual post hahaha
AFJDKLASD THANK YOU, JUMANA. *dances in complete happiness* I kind of trailed off reading at around 14 to 15 because I really got into writing! WHICH IS BAD. Writers should still read. XD But yessss, 17 saw me entirely addicted, omg. :’) No regrets.
AHHHH, non-childhood-HP-readers UNITE. XD
And I AM ENDLESSLY PLEASED YOU LIKE THE PICTURES. :’)
I would LOVE to know how many books I’ve read. And how often I read the Harry Potter series. Just because I’m curious. I’m not reading THAT much at the moment (maybe about 40 books a year?), but I used to read ALL THE BOOK ALL DAY when I was still in school. Needless to say no homework got done ever. My mum recently told me that I came back from the library one day and said I’m out of stuff to read. (I probably meant out of stuff I’d LIKE to read, because I mainly read the YA books and there was a limited number of them, but I’m still impressed with my younger self tbh). Also, I grew up on Harry Potter AND Narnia, so does that mean there was double the amount of magic?
I’m impressed with your younger self, tbh. That is DEFINITELY voracious reading. XD If I ever become a parent (let us hope not, omg, it’ll be scary) I’ll totally have huge spread sheets of all the books my kids read and they’ll be so annoyed with me — but thankful when they’re older. *nods*
I loved your facts. all of them. They were just awesome, for #18: AWWWW, CAIT. <3 Well, I'm glad we get to know your awesomeness at least. Five bookish facts about me are: 1. I don't lose bookmarks, I might stop using it and put it down, and possibly forget but any bookmark that is important to me is kept within a book on my dresser, or in my swag box. My swag box is a box of my collection of bookish merchandise, and letters that I have received from authors. I wouldn't want to misplace a thing. Signed bookmarks ate my babies. 2. I DNF at Chapter 11 or at page 100, and I have no qualms about not finishing. I think it's a waste of time to finish if I am not enjoying it when there are so many others I could be reading. 3. I like bookish art a lot, like photography and fan art. It makes me happy and fan fic, too although I don't really read it that much. 4. Authors are my celebrities. At about age 13 or so, celebrities stopped being important to me even though they were never as important as bookish things were. Authors are that for me, and it's awesome because even though authors are busy creatures, you can still talk to them and potentially become friends with them. It's such an awesome thing to be able to say somewhere: My friend, insert fave author, sent me this. I don't tend to take to popular authors. Even if I admire their work, I don't tend to keep up with them. I like debut authors and "smaller" authors because they're awesome, not always as noticed, and you can actually have connections or make them before they become big and famous.
5. I will tell you something I used to do. I would buy an Amazon gift card, and then I would buy e-books, read them, return them, and recycle the money for another book. I also occasionally buy my own books, but usually stick to borrowing from the public library, and the school one, every so often.
*sprinkles cake in your hair* YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL, WESAUN. I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMMENTS. :’)
Ohhh you have a swag box?! That is AWESOME. I have a bookmark box but I can’t ever seem to keep my bookmarks in them. I’m constantly pulling bookmarks out of my dog’s throat. -_-
I DNF at pg 100, too!! But I ahte doing it. XD
Oh oh authors are totally my celebrities too. I’M IN AWE OF THEM. They’re almost scary they’re so fabulous. I still don’t even know the names of most famous celebrities. I’m just like “The dude that starred in that other movie” and everyone despairs of me. XD
I grew up with Narnia, too! My Dad used to read it to me and my sister every night before we went to bed, and I’m totally copying with my own kids (even though I usually didn’t pay attention.)
I can’t believe you didn’t start YA until 17! What WERE you reading?! Did you ever think about it but think you wouldn’t like it?
My mum used to read it!! And then she got sick of copious rereads and I bought the audios and had them playing 24/7. XD NO REGRETS.
I just…I just read MG basically! My house was full of Newberry award winning books (like Strawberry Girl and Calico Captive and Caddie Woodlawn) and I just read them. So like classic kids books? And we had a tiny pokey little library so I just basically read what was around the house. XD
I need to start reading more MG! There are certain ones I absolutely love like Artemis Fowl, so I bet there’s a completely unexplored side of books out there!
FABULOUS. Cait you are fabulous and so are your facts! Just like you I only started reading YA recently, when I was 15/16. And I didn’t grow up with Harry Potter either! (Honestly, can’t even remember what my childhood was like)
YAY FOR BEING SOCIALLY AWKWARD! Connecting with people in real life is like… What even is words? 😂
THANKYOU FOR THE TAG 💕
WHO EVEN NEEDS WORDS. WE HAVE INTERNET. HUZZAH. XD And it’s never too late for YA, right?! Although I kind of wish I’d tried a few books when I was younger. Sometimes I do feel too old for a youngerish-YA book but pffffft. I SHALL NEVER GROW UP TRULY.
5 facts about me!
1. I am your number 1 fan (self-proclaimed). NOT EVEN KIDDING HAHAHA. Your tweets and blogposts always never fail to brighten up my day, so yes, I might have stalked your tweets/blog. Sorry? ><
2. I can read any book within one day! In one sitting HAHA yes, because I am that obsessed with reading. I think that made my mom hated it whenever I read.
3. Harry Potter was the book that made me love reading HEHEHE. So of course, after that I expected ALL books to have magic schools and awesome wands. But… sadly no 🙁
4. I tend to stare/stroke/spazz about a book more than I actually read it. Like like, have you ever actually want to read a book cos it's so hyped up, but when you get it, you just put it one corner because you don't want it to end so fast?!!?!?!
5. My dream is to see an author, basically Sarah J. Maas. Yes, I've never met her, nor ANY author thanks to being born in a country where nobody reads YA. 🙁 BUT YES, SOMEDAY I SHALL TRAVEL TO THE US MUAHAHAH
HEHE. I also learn that you're very very very hyper…………. 😀
AWWWWWW. REALLY!??! *blushes* YOU ARE THE NICEST OF NICE, MARYAM. :’) I’m utterly honoured right now. *sprinkles cake of happiness in your hair* and HI FIVE for reading books in one day!! I’m usually being dragged away from books to go do useful things like, idek, eat? Clean house? SHEESH. Life gets in the way of reading.
YESSS I DO THAT #4 ALL THE TIME. Actually I hype them up myself and then when I get them I can’t touch them. It took me ages to work up the guts to start Six of Crows because it’s majorly hyped on the blogosphere AND I was hyping it in my brain. XD I’m liking it now but omgggg…hype is killer.
I’VE NEVER MET AN AUTHOR EITHER.
I’m only hyper on the internet, mwhahahaha. 😉 In real life I am a hermit shell.
Great post Cait! I reeeealy need to read a Maggie Stiefvater book soon because a) I trust your bookish taste and flailings about her books and b) they really do sound awesome! Audiobooks are something I want to try out more as well – though I think I may prefer holding an actual book in my hands and reading it that way, it’d be interesting to see how listening to a story changes the experience. Thanks for sharing 🙂
AJFDKLSA YES YOU DO, EUGENIA. I shall shriek at you until you do. *Shrieks like a banshee* It’s handy when one has to do like mindless tasks? Like I do a lot of origami for my store and instead of not having time to read, I CAN STILL READ. 😀
Dragon books – the Pern series by Anne McCaffery is everything. It is the entryway to a world of dragons. Not YA, but kind of Fantasy / Sci-Fi depending on which book you read. Highly recommended.
Ohhhh, I should definitely check them out then!! I’m like a real YA gobbler, but I’m not opposed to trying other books. XD
Oh my gosh, I LOVE THIS!!
Hmm, 5 bookish facts about me…
1. I first read Harry Potter not long before the final book came out…read the series 9 times over the next 3 or 4 years.
2. The book series that stopped me from rereading nothing but Harry Potter was Twilight.
3. I refuse to call it a ‘Twilight phase’ (which is what pretty much everyone I know does). I read Twilight. I enjoyed it. End of story.
4. I have almost no reader friends…discovering Twitter and Goodreads was the greatest thing ever
5. Despite reading quite a lot (not as much as you), I’m still not very picky about books. I prefer it that way 🙂
9 TIMES?!?!? I AM IN AWE OF YOU. *bows to your HP dedication* XD Haha, I like your little war against the phrase “Twilight phase”. I’m glad you’re not bashing it, btw!! I think it got a lot of people that didn’t like books into reading and that’s just fabulous. *nods*
I HAVE NO READER IRL FRIENDS EITHER. NOT EVEN ONE.
5 eh? I’ve sort of let Netgalley go by the by and stopped requesting books unless I seriously need them like oxygen, yes? Nobody has time for all the ARC’s and I have books I want to read on my shelf, so they get priority for me. I’ve also sort of just stopped reading (what, I know, that’s baaaaad!) but live and time and not enough of it, bah! I can’t do 5 right now, but yeah, I like this, simple and sweet 🙂
Agh, yes. I think I could count on one hand how many Netgalley books I’ve read this year. O.O I mean I get in the mood for ebooks and then want a million of them, so that’s handy. But then my physical TBR grows enormous and I just flap around too overwhelmed. XD
Aw, that is sad you don’t have time to read. BUT I DO UNDERSTAND!! Some years are “reading years” and some are not.*nods*
OMG – i grew up on Narnia TOO!!!! and i also tire of reading. but that usually only lasts for a little bit. oh, and i’m in on the dog I MEAN SECRETARY making sandwiches…..its a grand idea. training begins tomorrow.
Book Dragon is now an official title, FYI.
😀
OH GOOD. If you have
dogsecretary tips for me all are welcome. He’s just a sandwich guzzler tbh. *sighs long sufferingly*yESSSS LET’S ALL SAY BOOK DRAGON FOREVER AND EVER!! 😀
You have so many cool bookish tidbits! #14 blew my mind! Now I need to check the back of Scarlet asap! Sooooooooo cool! I grew up on Harry Potter and I’m excited to try and reread the series this December for #HPDec! I love Goodreads so much too! I wish I could read every book in one day because I would get SO much reading done! 🙂
~Sara
ooh, you’re rereading?! I might be reading bk 7 in December! I have to wait for my audio reserve at the library though BUT SQUEE. EXCITED. For..the pain. -_- SO PAINFUL. XD
Ohhhhhh your Hunger Games set is so lurvely. <3 As for facts about me…
1. I love to write in my books. Absolutely adore it. Scribbling in the margins is the best way for me to interact with the story and analyzing stories makes my brain happy and it's all good.
2. Neal Shusterman is my most favorite author of all the authors, but you already knew that!
3. I have a love for YA but I think my love for the classics is stronger. I actually read classics BEFORE I got into YA, and I still love them intensely — but I wouldn't compare them with YA, of course, because I've read some stunning modern books and modern YA too. (I think that made more sense in my head.)
4. My most favorite genre in the whole wide world is weird sci-fi, the weirder the better.
5. I'm a wild crazy extrovert and I actually enjoy talking about books with people way more than I enjoy sitting down and reading the book in the first place, no matter how good it is. I get fidgety and lonely and need to go rant about the feels.
HAHAH I DID NOT KNOW YOU lOVED NEAL SHUSTERMAN. *gasps* RELLY, AIMEE!??! *dies giggling to self* Ahem. BUt seriously he’s going to be my next year’s binge-reading-author. This year was like 10 Rick Riordan’s. 2016 will be all the Shusterman books of ever (since I’ve only read 2 of them and that’s such a shame on me).
And that’s so awesome you’re an extrovert! YAY. 😀 I feel like a lot of introverts gather and hide into books and blogging, so we need more extroverts to balance us out. ;D ANd pfft, I hear ya with the feeling fidgity. I take copious breaks unless the book is insanely interesting. *nods*
Facts about me:
1. I started reading YA in year 6. So, I was 10? That seems rather young if 13 is the recommended age for most YA. Oh well, I was ready to move up in the world and read about kissing. Which leads to…
2. When I first started reading YA, I devoured fluffy romances, mostly published by Point. They were always smaller books and I used to hunt them down in libraries. They were my crack.
3. Now, I tend to like the opposite kind of books. Not to say I don’t like kissing because boy, I do, but I love books that leave a mark and impact me. Not so into fluff these days.
4. My favourite books make me cry. I don’t know what this says about me, but again, I like books that make me feel, even if in the moment they feel like they’re squeezing my soul and breaking my heart.
5. I’m not a cover snob. Of course I like nice covers, but they’re not the be-and-end-all for me.
As always, I love your book photography. Always so on point, you are 😉
heheh, AW ADORABLE TINY YOU READING BIG SCARY YA. :’) But at least you were closer to the target audience than me!! I was like on the end of the YA age-scale (although there are more YA 18yo stories now, I’ve noticed *nods*) I’ve never been the biggest fan of fluff, but I do like a good squishy ship to shriek about.
Awk, THANK YOU. <3 I'm so glad you like my photos. THAT MAKES MY DAY BASICALLY.
Hi Cait! I love your blog! Just thought I would drop you a comment to inform you of your new follower 🙂
Nihaad – Read & Seek
Awww, thank you!!! I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH!! *gives you welcoming cake*
I do love cake! Thank you for such a pleasant welcome 🙂
Haha. XD Wow that’s a lot of books! I have read maybe …. 200 or so that I can recall. ^ ^= I’m a very slow reader. I read maybe two or three books a month. XD I also didn’t grow up on Harry Potter. NARNIA FOREVER! And Hunger Games fans unite! I absolutely love the books and the films. ^ ^
storitorigrace.blogspot.com
*commences Narnian war cry with you* WOOOOOT FOR ASLANNNNN. Ahem. XD Clearly we had great childhoods. Have you seen the last Mockingjay Pt 2 film now?!? I haven’t. I’m too sad. I can’t take the feel. XD
Yep! I’ve seen it three times now! It’s sooooo goooood! You must see it! It ends happy!
Thank you for that Raven Boys comment. What IS the fuss with that book? Blergh. I’m reading Shiver now and it is FAR better, IMO.
EEEEEP I JUST SAW THAT I HAVE BEEN TAGGED! WOOT! *starts making list*
I’m on the road to being Stiefvater-obsessed. “Shiver” is giving me shivers, I am loving it so. Also, your bookish photos are BEAUTIFUL! <3
#6? I am utterly shocked! You need more dragons in your life! I remember as a kid specifically refusing to check out books from the school library if they did not include dragons.
Anne McCafferey’s Dragonflight and anything by both Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman were my favourites growing up. I also liked the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik quite a bit but I never finished them, I should probably go back and reread them!
Now I feel like I’m the one who needs more dragons. I’ve been reading a lot of YA, classics, and nonfiction lately.
I DO need more dragon books in my life. *flaps about trying to read more or all of them right now immediately* XD I mostly like YA but I will check out those series too!! And I’ve been recommended Dragonflight several times now so I think a trip to the library is in order. XD
You’d better share a piece of that cake with me! I will celebrate you and worship you and promote you and buy all your books, but I want my cake or else.
Also, my favorite author of all evers is Maggie Stiefvater, too, so we definitely have that in common. 🙂
I SHALL SHARE WITH YOU, MAJA. Because I’m nice. *nods and gives you cake* And omg, you get DOUBLE CAKE for Maggie Stiefvater being your favourite author. Clearly we are both intensely smart with great taste.
OOH! THANK YOU!
So the dog comment made me laugh a lot. Also that picture of A Dance With Dragons is BEAUTIFUL! So wintry and just, ugh, gorgeous. I have that very book sitting on my bedside table as we speak (virtually but whatever). So, next week I’m going to Oxford University for an English Lit interview (hahahhaa I know I’m terrified) so I’ve spent the past six weeks reading v intelligent books ie lots of Shakespeare and poetry, BUT I am going to take ADWD for the train home, as a celebration, and it is going to be GLORIOUS.
Congratulations on bringing your niece and nephew into line. My nephew is only 14 months but we have read lots of animal noise books, you can’t start them too young, can you?!
Yay to 20, 21 and 23. In fact, I think I’ll be joining you with that cake. Lol
CAKE FOR EVERYBODY!! *sprinkles it across the universe*
BUT WHAT DID YOU READ BEFORE YA? Like, you obviously couldn’t have been reading nothing or else you would be a miraculous book prophet.
It is SO COOL that your blog was mentioned at the end of Scarlet, though… All of these are cool. I have no interesting bookish facts about me, except, like… I dunno. I DUNNO. *existential crisis*
I just read MG stuff!! Lots of children’s classics too…like Caddie Woodlawn, Johnny Tremain, Secret Garden, The Railway Children, Narnia…etc. *gives you cake to calm existential crisis*
Bookish fact about me – I binge blog. Both in writing my own posts (scheduling, man, scheduling! when I discovered that it was amazing) and in commenting on others 🙂
Also, I echo #7. Once a king or queen in Narnia, always a king or queen in Narnia.
And therefore #8 🙂
Hehe, THAT IS STILL GRAND THOUGH. 😜 And scheduling is life, right?! I loooove scheduling posts.
FOR NARNIA! AND FOR ASLAN!!!
Last summer I feel asleep with a book on my stomach and donned a book shaped tan for the greater part of summer. It was glorious.
That is like ULTIMATE reader dedication. XD
I recently did this on my blog as well and I didn’t start reading Harry Potter until the 4th or 5th movie came out. I was too busy reading another series
I used this for my very first book blog post!
The Raven Cycle is SO good, I share your Maggie Stiefvater obsession, oh my.
Thanks for letting me steal your tag!
Bethany xo
Omg huzzah for mutual Maggie Stiefvater obsessions! *HI FIVES* We have our priorities in order clearly. ;D And congrats on your blog! *cheers for you*
Hi, there! I’m SyaSya and I started reading when I was 13 and I still remember the first book I read has been force by my mom for me to improve in my essays writing, but thanks to her I’ve become who I am today – which she kinds of annoys. Haha! OMG! Hunger Games is one of my favourite too but I doesn’t have the copies yet since I borrow it from my friend – too scared to buy a new book. I really wish I could have a boxset of Hunger Games. Maybe one day. 🙂
