Not only is it Easter and nearly April Fools, it is also the season of hot cross buns.
Which arguably is the most important season we have. And if you’re sitting there going, “For goodness sakes cait the entire season is not for bread” then how does it feel to be so so wrong, hmm? Because it is so for bread.
I also can’t remember if Americans understand hot cross buns, so behold:
Usually the crosses are white but ours are homemade so my family did chocolate, because we are sensible. They’re basically a fruity bun with a cross (SURPRISE) and they’re delicious because bread is. Also ours are Gluten/Dairy Free and I did absolutely NOTHING TO HELP WITH THEM but I’m taking photos and sounding knowledgeable anyway. As is my duty.
But onto my monthly recap which I’m doing as an #AmCurrently post! And spreading wonder and fear and all that fun stuff in orderly sections! I also need YOU to get involved this time, so prepare for forms and polls. I am not here to make decisions. I’m raising you for that.
I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW I HAVE LOTS OF GOOD BOOK-RELATED NEWS AND I CAN’T TELL YOU ANYTHING.
Which is so annoying of me, but I’m flailing!! Exciting things are coming!! Sometimes I just stare at this little paperback squish of an ARC on my shelf and get so ridiculously happy I eat a moon.
68 DAYS TO GO JUST SO WE’RE ALL KEEPING UP.
You can preorder via: Book Depository, Amazon, Booktopia, Hachette Australia, Hachette UK, Waterstones, Wordery! And just in case it’s annoying to see me talk about preorders so much (I’M SORRY) just know sales = more books from me in the future. I’m a very smol author so it’s important!!
- I saw the final cover and it is best. But don’t fret shh it’s basically the same as this except the back cover is awesome and the INSIDE is awesome and the butterfly going to be shiny/glittery.
- I’m dead. AH.
- I’m going to be signing things soon and I just realised I still haven’t figured out my signature so…
- oh no
- I did fall to That Thing Authors Should Never Do™ and that is I read some negative reviews…WHY. CAIT. After I finished crying everywhere, I am officially sworn off looking at reviews. (Unless they are super nice and someone sends them to me. Haha.)
- Also I’m doing an AMAZING collaboration with Alison @ Alison’s Wonderland Recipes because her cookbook and my book come out sooooo close together. It’s going to involve food. So be excite!
- If you haven’t requested an eARC from Netgalley UK you should do that.
- And also if you post a photo of ATPN on Instagram I’ll give you a shoutout!
- And pls come over here and hit me if I start to click on reviews again.
- I mean.
- Also I changed my Goodreads profile so my name isn’t Cait @ Paper Fury…it’s just CG Drews! This is SCARY so please eat a cake and take deep breaths. I miss my boots too. And yes I rated my book 5 stars, it was heckin’ hard to write.
HOW DO I HAVE THAT MANY FRIENDS??? I’m so strange tho.
There were also two book fairs going on (in Australia and the famous Bologna Book Fair) and ATPN was at both so…ahhh!
I am never going to get used to seeing it in the wild. HEART EYES.
APRIL 7th MARKS 2 MONTHS UNTIL MY DEBUT COMES OUT SO…HOW ABOUT A LITTLE Q&A.
I did an impromptu one on instagram last week and ohhhh um wow I got 150+ questions. So I’m going blog about it (you people are curious about meee; this warms my heart!) and if you want to add your burning questions in, GO FOR IT.
Ask me anything about my book or publishing or cake or if I am Batman or did my dog write my book really.
You can ask in the comments or I’ll put a little Google form here too! And then look out for this on April 7th!

I read 23 books this month…which is amazing for the person who’s supposed to be reading less. But what can I say.
These things happen.
Anyhow, I passed 50 books on my Goodreads challenge (!!) and also have read a SHEER TON of 4-star books. Someone award me for picking good books this year instead of being a total piece of salt like I usually am.
Thank you to Walker Books and Allen & Unwin for the review copies! And Everless and The Wren Hunt are from @fancifulbox, The Smoke Thieves is from @illumicrate and The Hazelwood and Heart Of Iron are from @Owlcrate!
And honestly I have read most of these already so like self-five me??? I’m not just adding immeasurably to the TBR wow.
FROM EDELWEISS OR AMAZON

If you hover / scroll over these they’ll flip to show my mini-review and star rating! Click to go to the full review!
Everything was GREAT or AWFUL this month haha. Who needs middle ground or any sort of chill? Apparently not me. Also so many good rereads! I swear I love rereads so much, my heart is just so full. (And the last of the Foxhole books was besssst.)
SO, WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO?
- My smol sister is visiting for Easter and we’re going to devour Season 2 of A Series of Unfortunate Events!! (Tell me if you watch it?!) I’m so excited and rereading the next few books in preparation.
- My laptop keyboard broke again so you can imagine how productive that made me in the writing realm. AKA = NAUGHT. I’m so devastated ughhhh.
- However I still managed to (a) do intense edits on a secret project and (b) after it got fixed I started editing a sequel I SHOULDN’T BE WRITING but whatever.
- So basically 2018 is shaping up to be The Year Of Rewrites.
- I have completely overhauled x 2 books and edited intensely x 1.
- My goal for April is to draft a new book. I just am going to see if I can write a book slowly, so not 30K a day. I’m super tired and have been unwell this year so let’s see if I can write how the mortals do.
Normal People: I should write more???
Me: but can I write slower tho.
- I can’t even with me either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Also I’m finally reading the Chaos Walking books. It only took me 4 YEARS SINCE I READ BOOK 1 TO BE OK ENOUGH TO READ BOOK 2.
- I’m pretty much stuck reading Iron Gold ah hahah (sobsob). It’s boring the heck out of me and this is so weird because the Red Rising books were 5 stars!?
- I’m also a little discouraged about my blog, I admit! Either everyone is on holidays or blogging is just falling into a deep deep hole, but I’m getting like 60% less engagement and I miss everyone. Where did u all go. I love you. Come back.
- (Also if you read my blog via phone/tablet and the formatting is awful, can you tell me?? I have no idea how to fix it, but I’m concerned it’s a problem!)
- But twitter has been WILD lately. I’m nearly up to 22K and holy heck I often get over 1K likes on a tweet????? This is surreal. I don’t know what to do with myself.
- So we’re all tweeting and not reading blogs I guess???
- Anyway AT LEAST I finished my background for my #bookstagram photos! This took me like 3 months but I obviously have no life.
- Also I put it on Society6 if you want to have it on a sticker or mug or something and then you can use it and know just how much I cried over it.
- Spoiler: it was a lot.
- Anyway! I’m going to go write a book and pinch myself because I love writing and shh, yes I complain, but I’m so so lucky to be doing this. AhHHHH!
Can I just say I love your mini-reviews? They’re so helpful for me to see which books I must grab, or avoid, really quickly! Love ’em! <3
Don't worry, I've been pretty unproductive writing-wise this year! I have edits I need to get to, but its sequel is calling my name… What is it with sequels and their abilities to completely distract us?? xD As for how my reading's been going, pretty well, considering I just started Obsidio today! I can already tell I'm going to love it! 😀
Happy Easter Cait, and have a wonderful month! <3
Ahh I’m so glad you do!! I really like doing them that way and I’m always SUPER nosey on other blogs for quick reviews so that’s why I do them.😂
Ugh ugh sequels. They have minds of their own, I swear. I have 1 sequel that’s just merrily whacking me about the ears until I write it, and another sequel that has just packed bags and LEFT THE COUNTRY. I can’t even. And yay for Obsidio!! I really wish my order would arrive.😂 Everyone is sobbing on Goodreads and I want to know why. (Or do I…😂)
I was declined the ARC but I am going to buy your book. I have two unfinished books on Netgalley and don’t review much YA so that could be it. I have reqeuested a book and am reviewing a book for someone so whilst I was almost caught up on my reading I think I might’ve changed that. Haha. My blog has suffered this week and my writing I’ve been so tired. Noisy neighbours keep me awake. And again last night 😣 maybe they could end up in a short story….
Aww THANKS, JEN.😍😍 I appreciate that so much!! (And sorry I have no control over who gets approved.😭😭) And ugh to being tired, but I hear you. It really ruins everything right?! I keep wanting to take a nap like 3 hours after I get up.😭😂 And I HATE noisy neighbours arrghgghgh.
I know you have no control over ARCs please don’t think I thought otherwise ☺ Wish you all the best with sales etc can’t wait to read it
Thanks, Jen!!!
I just thought I’d pop in to tell you that I requested ATPN from NetGalley and was also rejected, BUT I replied to the rejection email (replies go to your publisher), stating that I was a book blogger, and sending the link to my blog with all the reviews I’ve done, and that you’d told readers of your blog where to request the ARC from…
And I got a mail back today with a widget for an ARC of your book! 😀
I’m so excited to read it, not much else will be happening this weekend!
AHHHH I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE GOING TO READ IT. Thank yoooou! 😍🎉🎉
Those hot cross buns look DELICIOUS!! I read…like 5 books?! I think. I mean, SCHOOL. It honestly just takes up so much of my life and then I come home and I’m SO drained by just doing simple tasks. And then reading? PAH. It goes out of the windows, I’m on Easter break now so I shall be commenting on your posts and others more often, because I have time and don’t feel like a dead eel most of the time, aha. AND WHAT’S HAPPENING CAIT…are you getting busier? You normally had your reviews out in like 2 seconds, and now are getting “rtc” IM SCARED! But like, yes, A Taxonomy of Love was SUPER cute, I adored it ahaha. And I’ve heard such bad things abou Furyborn, I’m considering cancelling my pre-order. BUT CAIT HOLY HECK THE *COVER* it’s so pretty?? But then, like, I don’t want to own a book a lot of my friends didn’t like and i won’t like so…thoughts. Ahh, I’m so glad I pre-order a finished copy…I GET A SHINY BOOK!!! SO excited for all your author news, i’m still shocked you have a FACE, and wow you read and write so much, I am in awe
I can imagine!! I didn’t read a ton when I did school, I mean outside of school books.😂It’s just hard to do everything!?? What is this. Why don’t we get time turners.
(I am busy Ilsa *cries* and also deciding whether or not to do negative reviews haha so if you see an unreviewed book these days it’s probably because I’m having a crisis over it.😂) But Furyborn…oh wow. I expected like such good things, but so so bored. However I AM not in an epic fantasy mood?! So I don’t know if that was part of it.
I’m still shocked I have a face too. This was even more shocking than actually getting my book published.
It’s honestly such a massive problem. Because what if you like interact with those authors on an author level and then you hated their book…I mean awkward. I don’t think that’s just it, because a lot of other people did not like Furyborn either…No but seriously every time I see your author photo I’m like “?? Who is that ?? Ohh it’s CAIT.” i honestly thought you were boots.
(I know right?! Like an author congratulated me when I announced my deal on twitter and I realised I’d hated on their book on GR.😂So I feel like??? I don’t want to do that anymore haha. But I’m not going to lie or anything so I’ll just maybe review 3 stars and up? I DON’T KNOW. DECISIONS ARE HARD.)
At least Furyborn is pretty. 😭😭 I’m just sad because the title is like MY NAME. How could I not like it.
What a fun post, Cait!
March was a meh month for new books but a wondrous month for rereads (Bridge to Terabithia and The Scorpio Races because it’s cold here and I miss the sea and horses). My traditions include going to the Easter sunrise service, wearing a pretty yet short dress and wondering why it’s so cold, and unpacking my Easter basket and eating way too many peeps. And yes, I’m excited for Series of Unfortunate Events! I sure hope I’m caught up on the books, though.
Ahhh I’m so glad you love rereading too! IT IS THE BEST. I actually didn’t realise I’d reread so much this month but like?!? I am here for that. And ready for more haha. (I want to reread The Scorpio Races in November because AESTHETIC.)
(I’m also rereading ASOUE before I watch the next episodes.😂)
It’s been a decent reading month for me, I read 3 books instead of my usual two, so I’m happy with that. This year of writing has actually been okay for me, I got a full critique of my MS from my critique partner and have been spending the last month editing it, I’m on the last few chapters now, so I’ll be sending it back within the next couple of months and seeing if the changes I’ve made have made it any better (*silently screaming in terror already*). I’ve hit kind of a brick wall with my f/f fantasy book, I know where it’s meant to end but navigating the middle is turning out to be trickier than I’d originally thought. Still at least one of my projects is going well! We do an easter egg hunt every year, despite the fact that my sister and I are now 21 & 23 respectively (turning 22 & 24 this year), we do it mostly because my mum enjoys hiding them! And I love hot cross buns, though I have to say, I eat them year round and don’t just confine them to Easter. I’ve actually already watched A Series of Unfortunate Events, binged all of the new season yesterday, and really enjoyed it! It’s so wonderfully faithful to the books, I love it and NPH is awesome!
Ahhh that’s awesome you’re up to the critique-partner-and-doing-edits stage! I find that pretty nerve-wracking too haha. It’s always so hard to know what to change and what to keep!? (Especially if you have multiple CPs giving different feedback.😂) So I wish you all the luck!! And also cryyy with you over being blocked. I keep getting so so blocked for this contemporary idea I’m working on developing. I’m about ready to throw it at a wall every single day.😂
Hahah to the hot cross buns! I wish I did?! I freaking love them omg, it’s like sultana bread but the cross makes it better.😂
I just finished episode one and I loooove this show. They’ve done such a good job!
Oh no. You read the bad reviews. Well, shoot…
The formatting of this blog looks weird when I click it through Bloglovin’? It’s okay without bloglovin though so that’s grand.
I won’t do it again. *sobs wildly* I basically had the WORST day after I read some and had to go whine to my family for a while.😂😂
And yeah I checked on bloglovin’ and it makes everything so weird?!? WHY IS THIS UGHHGGH. I don’t know how to fix it.
My blog’s also been super dead stats-wise this month and it was just beginning to pick up so *shrug* maybe March is the month of people not reading blogs? Glad to hear it’s not just me, anyway.
Ugh maybe it is just March then?! I was so super down yesterday after I got so little comments on a post.😂 It was like…all this work over all these years…but aaaanyway.😂
See how it goes in April before despairing, I guess? Idk what it is about this month, it’s never been a crappy one for me in the past (the summer is usually worse, especially June — presumably a mixture of exams and holidays and not staying inside to read blogs).
Oh I’m always ready to despair at ANY given moment. It is my talent.😂
I can’t wait to get your book in my mailbox, Cait! And I’ll write a supernice review and link you to it, okay?? I’ll be supernice because I’ve read your stuff before and you are so talented it’s almost a crime so I can’t imagine myself hating it in the least.
Also I tried starting a Q&A but I got zero questions so excuse me while I go cry in a corner now.
AND i tried to vote for I’ll Fly Away but the polls are being stupid to me and I can’t actually click on a title and then vote. Which is sad. But that’s my vote because I’m reading it soon too.
I’m planning on binge-watching season 2 of Unfortunate Events next week when I’m home alone with too much time on my hands and it’ll be awesome .YOU ARE MY HERO THOUGH for accomplishing so many things. Seriously. xD And I love that background you made! It’s all of the pretty.
I could tell you all about my month now OOORRR you could read my recap ahaha. (shameless self promotion I know) I will say I’m on a contemporary binge atm but will break that binge to devour Obsidio next week because!!! I!!! must!! I’ve waited so long already omg.
N’aww, BEE!! 😍😍 I’m very much hoping you like ATPN!! And if you do like it (but seriously no pressure haha) I will come stalk your review! Quietly. So I’m not one of those weird authors.😂 (Lmao I am already what am I saying.)
Aww no I’m sorry about your Q&A. 🙁
Those polls seem to muck up a bit?! Honestly the entire blog is out to get me. *throws hands in the air* I’m just going to go sit down and howl now. (Also thanks about my background!! I’m just so glad it’s done and I can use it haha. But it’s SO good for the photos. Worth it.😂)
I will come read your recap!! And I can’t WAIT for my copy of Obsidio to arrive omg I need it.
I put my edits on a shelf and they’ve been trying to get down and attack but I left them with no supplies so maybe they’ll be bored and finish themselves?
I only read about 13 books and my tbr is angry…. april i need to pack it in but I’ve passed 50 for the year so yay but I duno how you do all those rereads – I keep wanting to but I feel like I’m betraying all the new precious i have.
Easter weekend is spent with gemina binge read so I can finish ASOUE bc it. Is. Life, a word here meaning i want it all the time and this show is amazing.
Honestly 10/10 to your editing priorities there. I hugely approve and will try this method too?? I’m trying to glare them into doing themselves but so far it’s not working.
HEY YAY FOR 50 TOO!! *hi fives* Honestly I read so much and my TBR never seems to go down.😂It might be the rereads. But like life is too short not to revisit my favourite darlings.😂
AJFSKLAD ASOUE!!! I JUST WATCHED EPISODE 1 AND IT WAS SO SO GOOD.
I read the blog mostly on a tablet and: It’s sososososo PWETTY! So don’t worry, it’s still stunning. I don’t know about wether or not this month was productive, BUT I did buy a book that I’ve wanted for a while now (Runebinder, it’s fantastic) because the stupid bookstore I was in didn’t have The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. I was kinda confuzzled, but whateves. :D. I still got a book!
Ahh okay thanks for telling me! I am glad it’s not too much of a badly-formatted mess. 😂 I promise it looks right on my laptop!? And AHH! I recently bought Runebinder too and I’m super excited for it!! (But seriously The Gentleman’s Guide is like one of my #1 books so I hope you read it sometime!!)
As a German, I’ve never heard of cross buns before but we have so much amazing Easter related food so I think I’ll be fine (well, but is there ever enough delicious food???). It looks very, very delicious though!
Also, I follow you via WordPress and for the past few weeks whenever I clicked on your newest blog post it opened up in an html nightmare without anything of your theme. I know you can’t change that but all of the things I’ve tried to make it look pretty again have failed and I AM DISTRESSED. (I now just go directly to paperfury.com and then click on the article, which is slightly inconvenient but at least I don’t have to look at that terrible mess). Sigh.
I feel like I’m ONLY rereading books right now which is really good for my bank account but not that great for my tbr pile (it isn’t THAT huge right now though, I’m glad). I’ve re-read nearly all of the Raven Cycle this month and it eased so much of my school stress, these books are such a blessing! I don’t know what I’d do without Maggie Stiefvater. I related so much to your comments in your previous blog post on the specific scenes in those books you remember so cleary because a) same and b) the ones you mentioned are probably some of my favourite scenes in any book ever.
They ARE so delicious! I’m thinking they might be a British thing traditionally?! But Easter is basically for eating, let’s be real here.😂
Awk I wonder if that’s contributing to people not reading my blog currently?! I need to fix this. NO idea how but I’ll panic and click things and hope it works. (Thanks so much for letting me know!)
Omg rereading The Raven Cycle is the best thing one can do in life. *flails* I just finished by BLLB reread and now onto TRK this month!! Maggie Stiefvater is a true wonder of the universe.
I’m sorry for not commenting more! I’m still reading your posts, generally speaking, but I’m also running around trying to keep up with writing and design classes, so I don’t have a ton of time to comment. 🙁 Sorry! I’ll try to do better!
Also, regarding site design- for a while, the formatting would be off even if I looked at your site on my laptop, but now it seems back to normal, so . . . yeah.
I look forward to hearing about how your slow-writing experiment goes! I was going to make this April an experiment in super-planning a story (because I’m doing a total rewrite of one of my old works— like, I’m using the same basic plot and characters, but I’m barely even looking at the original version except for occasional reference), but then I never got around to making my actual outline so . . . oh well.
I’m glad you had such a good reading month! I also had a pretty good month on that front, even though I only read four books. (I did a bunch of beta-reading for a friend, though, so that counts for something, right?) Also, I have never had hot cross buns, even though they sound rather tasty. I think they may be less of a thing in the US of A.
Aww no don’t be sorry!! I don’t want to whine anyone into commenting. 😂😂 It’s so hard to get everything done in the day right?! We need time turners ugh ugh. (But seriously don’t feel pressured to comment. <3) And agh as long as it's back to normal now? Apparently if you read through bloglovin' or WordPress it's super messed up. I don't even know what to do though!! I'm so not technologically savvy.
Ooh we should both challenge ourselves with writing-differently this April though!! I'm kind of hoping the slow-writing works for me with my super intense outlines? I used to need to write so so fast because I would forget the story otherwise. But now my outlines are REALLY detailed. I'm still nervous though. 🙈🙈It may fall in a screaming heap.
Beta reading totally counts! Also as like work too I think. 😂😂 Just pity it doesn't count on the Goodreads challenge...😂
I feel like maybe hot cross buns are from the UK originally?! I can never remember anymore.😂
ME ME ME I’M EXCITED FOR A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS SEASON 2. I’M GONNA BINGE WATCH AFTER I FINISH BLACK MIRROR. #NetflixIsLife
I haven’t really read the books (it was all nancy drew, boxcar children and babysitter’s club for me when I was a kid) but I really enjoyed the old movie. Anyway, this month really was not productive but school is gonna be over and I can finally read. I haven’t eaten hot cross buns yet but they seem yummy. I don’t think they’re available in the Philippines though.
ANYWAY, I’M LOVING THE RAVEN CYCLE. Thank you for dropping these books on my head. I finally noticed them.
-R
NETFLIX IS SO GOOD I REALLY LOVE IT AHHHH.😂Although it’s not good for my TBR pile of course when I neglect that to watch shows, but oh well.😂 The movie of ASOUE was soo good too right?! I was so obsessed with it and the soundtrack is still a top favourite! I do love how accurately the show has done the adaption though. 😍
OMG I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE OBSESSED WITH MY RAVEN BOYS. WELCOME.😍
So the show really is accurate? I love it more then! I love adaptations that give justice to the books. I binge watched season 4 of How To Get Away With Murder this week and my TBR cried soooo hard. Anyway, I’m back to reading right now.
I FORGOT TO TELL YOU I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH GIFs. UM NO I’M NOT OBSESSED WITH HIM. JUST A LITTLE. HE’S MY LIFE ACTUALLY. IS THAT OBSESSION? DUNNO REALLY 😅
IT IS SO ACCURATE!! It’s really impressive how much of the books they’ve squeezed into every episode ahhhh.
The formatting for your blog is perfectly fine on my phone. I usually read your posts in between groups of wild kiddos, and I’ve never seen an issue.
Also stared at your beautimous drawing for a full three minutes. My brain hurt trying to figure out how to color that.
Omg this is SUCH a relief, thanks for letting me know about the formatting!!😂 And trust me, my entire self rejected the idea of taking on such a huge project with that background but it’s DONE. And I’m so relieved.😂 (Also it works perfectly for my backgrounds haha.)
CAIT. CAIT. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT YOUR BOOK I COULD DIE xD. Can’t wait for June! (also the bookstagram background? GOREGOUSNESS, I CAN’T <3 <3 <3)
N’AWW YOU’RE SO LOVELY AND I’M FLAILING ALL OVER THE PLACE. *sends you all the cake* Also SO glad you like the finished product of the bookstagram background. I’m just so relieved it’s done ah hahahhhhhaa.😂
23 books! How do you read so much?! I’m envious. I read about 3 pages and then fall asleep. Congrats on finishing your background for bookstagram! It looks pretty.
Also, I noticed that sometimes your blog looks weird when I come here from Bloglovin’. Everything is okay if I go to the homepage and click a post, but when I come directly to a post from Bloglovin’, the formatting is all messed up and the comment box doesn’t work. Maybe that’s bringing down engagement?
Well my laptop WAS broken for ages so typing was a nightmare and I ended up being on the internet less and reading more which…probably isn’t a bad thing.😂Except I missed writing! But AHH thank you about the bookstagram background. I’m so relieved it’s done.😂
I’ve been told that about the bloglovin’ too and I’m so confusedddd what is going ON. But yeah maybe people don’t bother reading because it’s too hard? Which I do understand! I just wish I could fix it.
ahh DUDE SO MUCH COOL STUFF GOING ON! That’s a great amount of books to have read; I’m currently focusing on reading one book per week! It’s coming along. 🙂 I CAN’T WAIT TO READ YOUR BOOK and I hope you have a really good day and week and month. I believe in you 100% always, ignore the haters, keep screaming from the rooftops and I will always be listening xD <3
CAROLINE, YOU LOVELY BEAN. <3 Thank you this is such the nicest comment! It's really easy to know, like in my head, that not everyone is going to love my book (I mean obviously!! I don't love every book!) but like...somehow it's still like I just got stabbed in the heart.😂 I'm so dramatic lmaooooo. Ahem. Anyway smack me away from Goodreads, I won't do this again.😂
*smacks you repeatedly* but actually not because you’re amazing and I never could <3 stabby feelings aren't nice at all but don't worry I will put protective sheet cake around your heart. Then you can nibble and stay alive but also be protected! (hehehe it's like baby-proofing but with cake and for Cait, instead of a small child) ((unless there isn't actually that much of a difference…))
Great post! I can’t wait to read your book~ as for formatting, the posts have been loading up awkwardly in html. On both chrome and the WordPress app. Maybe that could be affecting your engagement?
Agh thanks for letting me know! I’m going to look into that because I have no idea why it’s doing it?!? I mean I also have no idea how to fix it, but I can try.😂
Well great, now I need to try hot cross buns. I’d say this month has been very good with the majority of my books being 5-4 stars and only one 2 star book *sobs about that one because of my high expectations* also I read your blog from a tablet and have never had a problem with the formatting. As far as writing I’ve done a lot of world building and character charts so that’s good. And happy Easter!
Yes, yes you very much do. I mean are we even living until we’re eating hot cross buns? Dubious.😂 And I’m so glad you’re having a good reading month too!! (One of my highly anticipated ones was Furyborn which bombed for me too BUT THE TITLE. *sobs* It should’ve been such a me book.)
(Also thanks for letting me know about the formatting! I’m really relieved.)
I never read blogs on my phone? 1) because WordPress never stays logged in, and I can’t ever remember my password. and 2) Twitter is distracting.
Anyway, your blog is always epic and I do think everyone’s on break, because I definitely think my blog has lower engagement. Maybe everyone’s tired or spring cleaning. March fever.
You read so much, Cait! I’m always impressed. I hit 30 books so far this year and I’m so excited because that’s like 10 books a month for me, and I’ve never read THAT much in one year!
Rewriting can be so fun & annoying. And I’m so curious about your secret project, eek! I just want to read it now. Also, I don’t think Netgalley US has A Thousand Perfect Notes and that is sadness. 🙁
Also, Hot Cross Buns sounds so good! When I was learning the recorder, it was the first song I ever played, and I would sing it SO MUCH. Drove my siblings mad. But my mom made me some Hot Cross Buns just so I would be quiet. 😂 Wish I could do that today, but dorm life is not friendly to cooking.
Omg well I’m relieved it’s not just me and my little blog falling down a mudslide.😂 Although sad that it’s happening to you too?! WHAT IS THIS, UNIVERSE, HOW DARE PEOPLE HAVE A LIFE.😂
Ahhh I’m so happy for your reading too! (CAKE TO CELEBRATE.)
And no ATPN isn’t on Netgalley US because it’s only coming out in the UK haha. But who knows?! Maybe the US will want me someday too. :’)
Honestly the hot cross buns song is a literal nightmare which makes no sense because the actual food is very good.😂
Format looks great from my iPhone!
My reading month was not great, BUT I can finally say I am out of my reading slump YAY!
This year has not been great from me for writing but when is a year ever??? 😭
I’ve been working on my WIP for like 3-4 years now. I’ve not put a lot of those words onto paper but I have spent a lot more time recently finally forming more of the plot in my head and my characters are starting to become people of their own. They’ve now started yelling at me to write about them which is fun! 🤷🏼♀️
I’m excited to see the new cover reveal of your book and find out about all these secrets you’re hiding 🤭
Ohh that is SUCH a relief, thanks for letting me know!!
And also I’m so so glad you’re out of your reading slump!? THIS IS GREAT NEWS WE SHOULD ALL CELEBRATE WITH CAKE. And hey writing in one’s head is still a huge part of the process! I’ve been doing a LOT of that this year and have to remind myself that even though it’s not on paper yet, it’s still working towards that! (Although characters being rude and having lives of their own…what even are we to do about that.😂)
No problem!
I did buy those Cadbury caramel cake bars so I feel like that’s a pretty good celebration!
Yes, I do try and remind myself of that but I am my own worst critic!
I have punished mine by just completely getting rid of one ahah she just wasn’t becoming fleshed out like the rest, no matter how much I poked her. Hopefully now they’ll listen… but I doubt it ahah
Cait. Cait. Don’t read the negative reviews. Honestly, don’t read reviews at all. Get one of those childproofing computer app things and block the Goodreads page.
Ooo, and I’m so excited for Summer of Salt! I haven’t actually heard much about it but the cover looks Gay so it went on my TBR.
Are you doing Camp NaNo, too?
I know, Aine, I knoooow. 😭 I am literally the child who got told the oven was hot but STILL TOUCHED IT. Anyway no more reviews for me ever, but the worst is stumbling on them on accident. I was looking for photos to share of the ARC on instagram and found someone saying how they “expected so much more from a famous instagrammer” and I’m NOT EVEN FAMOUS AND WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN. 😭😭😭Anyway, I’m finished having a crisis. 😂😂 Slap me if I touch my Goodreads page, I swear.
Summer of Salt is ADORABLE and GAY and PERFECT and I want everyone to read it and it to be so so loved because it deserves it. <3
(I'm probably not doing Camp NaNo because I'm a mess at the moment.😂)
I love A Series of Unfortunate Events! NPH is fabulous as Count Olaf. I’m terrible though, I need to rewarch the first season before I can move on to the second, even though I saw the first one two months ago?? Oops…
hahah remembering things is hard!! I wanted to rewatch S1 but I don’t really have time.😂 But just because I enjoy it so much eeeeep…
Happy Easter and April! I hope this next month is amazing for you. Also, YES THE SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS is amazing on Netflix!! I watched the first two episodes yesterday and it just made my heart so happy. 😍😍
Oh and I meant the first episodes of season 2, by the way.😂I already binged the first season long ago…
IT’S SUCH A GOOD SHOW AND SO SO SIMILAR TO THE BOOKS I CAN’T EVEN WITH HOW GOOD THEY’VE DONE IT!! Why aren’t all adaptions like this?!?
Awesome blog post! And 60% less?? How is this possible for Queen Cait.
I also gave you a lot of questions, because I am a curious little writer. I’ve researched a lot on this subject (a year ago but hey that’s irrelevant 😆) and I’m wondering how much of it is totally true.
I literally have no money to spare but am plotting how to get your book. Obviously, we all need it. (Firstly, it’s written by you! Secondly, it’s pretty! We need the pretty book on our shelves! And thirdly, you said there’s cake in it. We all need another book with food in it in our lives. 😜)
NOBODY LOOOOOVES ME, JULIA. *sobs dramatically* 😂😂 I’m just kidding, I have no idea what’s going on! Either my blog is scaring people away by acting weirdly (is it?!) or else maybe people just aren’t into blogging so much anymore? I know a ton of my blogging buddies don’t really do it anymore and that makes me so saaaad. I miss everyone. (Although still grateful to anyone who does like to read it still!)
And no worries about all the questions! I just realised that the names aren’t in line with the questions so I have no clue who asked what lmao. I’m so intelligent.😂But whichever yours are, I do hope I’ll answer them!
My book is VERY foodie. I would not put anything else out into the world.😂
When you said hot cross buns I imagined some plastic-tasting pre-packaged version and then I realized how sad my life is in the U.S. and how much I need to visit Australia apparently.
Here’s a fun question; do you know any books about a bunch of broken girls? Specifically in an adventure/sports/both context? I just finished reading A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue (and it was awesome) and everyone’s talking about Foxhole Court and The Raven Cycle, and it made me realize I don’t know any books like that which have a female cast? So I don’t know if you would know of any books like that, or if they exist, but I figured you’d be a good person to ask since you read more than anyone I’ve ever met and also have the world’s largest TBR.
Good luck on your book release!! 😀
Bahah don’t worry we have the packaged versions in all the stores too! But my family has a ton of dietary restrictions so we make our own.😂 And they are DELICIOUS.
afksdlad I love The Gentleman’s Guide…SO MUCH. And obviously The Raven Cycle and the Foxhole Court.😂 I’m so obsessed. heeh. But to answer your question, I honestly can’t think of any??? Which is pretty awful tbh. But THEN I don’t read sport books generally. I feel like the Foxhole Court is probably the only sport books I even really like? Everless has a huge female cast though, which is great, although not sports, but magical stuff and courts and kingdoms and conspiracy theories and stuff.
I have The Hazelwood too! And I may actually be able to read it soon because it was recommended to me by my dissertation tutor!
I wouldn’t say it’s been a bad reading month – a bad blogging month, but I AM RUNNING OUT OF TIME so I will forgive myself for this – but I just finished All the Bright Places and…I was totally underwhelmed. I mean, it was alright but it feels like everyone else loved it. 🙁
Oh oh I’ll be so keen to hear what you think! I feel like people either LOVE it or hate it?!? Which is pretty usually for the blogosphere I guess.😂
Awww no I love All The Bright Places. It totally broke my heart!
Hot Cross Buns are amazing! It’s something that in a season mostly marked with chocolate, cake and chocolate cake, they manage to stand out.
12 books is a smallish month for reading, but I’ve got more time in April, so that should be better.
And I’m not regular enough in my writing to compare how I’ve done this year to last year. Like I’ll write hardcore for a few weeks then stop altogether for about two months.
They are DELICIOUS and so fruity and ahh!! And 12 is still pretty amazing! I am actually aiming to only read 18 books a month (I’m trying to back off and stress less haha) but not having a working computer really threw me so I ended up reading a LOT.
And I do that with writing too, tbh.😂 I write really intensely for like 3 days and then it’s a drought for 3 months.😂
A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS S2 IS AMAZING. I am watching it with my sister as well, though she hasn’t read the books, so every time there is a reference to the VFD or future episodes, I screech and she thinks I’ve lost it.
IT’S SO GOOD EVERY EPISODE IS PERFECT. I just started S2 and I’m trying to read the books before watching the relating episode so I can flail in more abundance. (But omg you must pile the books on your sister’s head till she reads them!!) (I mean, good luck tho because I’m trying to do that to my sister and it’s not working.)
I have never had a hot cross bun before, but I now have that obnoxious song about them very thoroughly stuck in my head…
My family’s easter traditions basically just involve my parents hiding bunch of chocolate easter eggs for me and my brother to find. We’re probably really too old for it by now, but CHOCOLATE! There’s very little I wouldn’t do for chocolate!
You are MOST welcome for that obnoxious song (and like who even wrote that song?? Did they want us to all hate hot cross buns???) And omg chocolate easter eggs are ALSO delicious and I wildly approve.
Hi Cait
When will your book be available in the US as a hard copy? Right now Amazon is only offering the ebook and I so want to admire that cool cover you have been showing and talking about.
No it’s not being published in the US as of now! But the paperback will be available at all the sites I listed. 😉
So many exciting things happening! I’m really excited to read your Q&A post about publishing and stuff, I’m always interested in hearing what fellow writers do. 🙂
Ahh thanks, Abi!! I really hope it’ll be a fun post! 😀 It’s kind of fun to be able to talk about stuff now instead of smothering myself in secrets.😂
Welcome!
Hot cross buns..I must try them now.
Is the cover change too major? Can I still get two to complete the butterfly?
Watch Unfortunate Events! It is incredible! It’s almost the same as the books, except for this awesome, (Very Furious Devotee) librarian. I’m positive that she was not in the books…I think?
I personally didn’t like A Taxonomy Of Love. Mostly because it took place over too much time and kidnapping? Why? Oh and one of the characters broke character at one point. That was weird.
You must! They are delicious and the best part of Easter tbh!
And haha no it’s not a cover change, just seeing the finalised fonts and how the official layout will look for front/back/insides. And YES. you will be able to match up the butterflies!
And omg Very Furious Devotee is the best thing ever. I claim that as the meaning of VFD now forever and ever.
Um lmao kidnapping in A Taxonomy of Love????😂 Where was that?!
Yes someone got my pun!
There was some part where Spencer takes Hope to this butterfly place, if I remember correctly, only Hope didn’t agree or want to go to the butterfly place. It was weird and I’m unsure if it could be called kidnapping but Hope claimed she was…
I only read 5 books this month because school *cries*. But those books that I did read were so great! They were all 4-5 stars which is so wonderful and I’m incredibly happy! But I am kinda scared that now I’ll run out of good books to read and oh nO. But also I have so many releases I’m excited about so I don’t think that that’s a problem (like ATPN!! I’m so looking forward to that! But oh nooo don’t read negative reviews of it, that seems to be so discouraging).
I don’t eat hot cross buns but I did learn to play a song on the recorder about them in 3rd grade, so.
And yes!! I’m SO excited to watch season two of ASOUE and I can’t wait until the Baudelaires meet the Quagmires and just ahhhhh. So excited.
Ps-I’m becoming so excited for your secret project and I don’t even know what it is lolol. Is it fantasy? Is it gong to be announced soon? Is it about those two princes and a civil war you once mentioned writing about (very unlikely and also I’m not even sure that you mentioned this, but..)? SO MANY QUESTIONS.
Nooo school does so like to eat our time right?! I didn’t get much reading done when I was in school. But YAS that they were good books! Honestly sometimes reading is annoying when you hit a run of bad ones, but when they’re all good?! *flails*
And I am absolutely sworn off reviews.😂 I swear, it was the most depressing thing. And I KNEW not to do it but I did anyway??? Like go cait you gotta get burned before you learn. *facepalm*
PS. I CAN’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE SECRET PROJECT BUT I’M EXCITED.😂😂 (Except it’s not anything to do with the thieving princes civil war book although I do plan to start editing that this year haha.)
My family eats a lot of Hot Cross buns this time of year, so I can attest that Americans (some of us at least) do understand.
This month hasn’t be very productive for me either (but that may just be because I didn’t write for 3 days while I frantically researched how names work in the middle east and middle eastern culture and hunting dogs…and then got side tracked on falconry. Whoops)
I also did a lot of “research” on Persian desserts…and made myself really, really hungry. Guess who’s going on a baking spree….
Some Questions:
Are you going to make ATPN inspired mugs on Society6? (Are you even allowed to do that?)
If your amazing new book was a food (more specifically, cake) what would it be?
I’m VERY happy that Americans do indeed know the glory of hot cross buns. This honestly makes me feel much better about the planet. (And also researching and getting side-tracked is like such a writer thing to do.😂😂 Also omg Persian food is freaking amazing. Every time I read a book set there I DIE OF HUNGER and it’s very good.)
Ohh I would like to make some ATPN things for Society6.😂 I actually just got a whole stack of new graphics so eep.
And there is actually a fruit cake IN my book, so I’m guessing it would very accurately be a fruit cake.😂
I mentioned before the crazy formatting on Bloglovin’ that doesn’t allow me to comment, yes? I am just going to have to read your blog outside of the feed now so that I am able to comment like I used to so you know I’m still here {could this maybe be a problem for other people as well??}
Your posts always make me so excited because you hint at all of this great news you can’t talk about and I just start making wild guesses as to what it is… like selling film rights or a new book deal with a giant advance or something equally awesome!
I’m wondering if the bloglovin’ thing is a problem for people?! It’s just weird that it’s just suddenly started though. But yeah maybe people see the mess and they just don’t read because it’s too hard! HOW DO I FIX THIS THO. BLOGLOVIN’ WHY DO YOU HATE ME.
Ahhhh 😂 It’s really hard being an author sometimes because you basically are constantly waiting 6-12 months to announce stuff.😂
We had hot cross buns last year, but not this year because mom forgot. 🙁
OOOOOOH ME WANTS THE GLITTERY BUTTERFLY. SOMEBODY GIVE ME SOME MONEY.
I’ve been doing more knitting and drawing fan art than reading, but only because I’m trying to read a book thats only on my dad’s phone, and he’s at work for most of the day. *sigh* it’s called The Alchemist, and I love it. I need to know my aura color and smell immediately.
Most crazily, ~Olive
Nooo that’s so sad! Hot cross buns are the best of life! (I HOPE YOU GET TO EXPERIENCE MY GLITTERY BUTTERFLY I DO HOPE.)
Awk that must be hard not to be able to read the book whenever you want!
I can’t wait to read your book :)) I love the cover so much and it’s going to be awesomeeeeeee! Also haha I relate to the signature thing I mean I’m not signing things like you but my “signature” on my drivers license is …not really a signature/terrible and I’m stuck with that thing for years haha.
Aww, Kay, THANK YOU! *Flails happily* And omg my signature for like everyday things is horrible and basically I’m sure my 5 year old niece could do better.😂 Writing is hard.
I totally get what you mean about the Chaos Walking series! I read The Knife of Never Letting Go in 2011 and I still haven’t brought myself to read the sequel some 7 years later!!
In terms of productivity…I think our definitions of that word are very different! 2 books in 3 months is your norm? WOW! One book in one year is productive for me, and that’s just for a first draft!!
This month I read a really good YA book by Mia Kerick and Raine O’Tierney called Sound of Silence. It’s about a selectively mute boy who is befriended by a pair of rich but lonely siblings who are neglected by their parents. It has some awesome messages about the strength of non-verbal communication and the meaning of family 😊
Omg it’s so so hard when it comes to Patrick Ness books. Like they’re BRILLIANT but so feels crushing?! I’m in constant suffering.😂 I’ve just now finished bk 2 and am trying to gather courage for bk 3.❤️💔
I KNOW THO haha. So basically I’m just being more average and should stop whining. 😂 Last year was insanely productive for me and I’m probably still recouping so I shouldn’t push myself so hard!
Omg I really am curious about the Sound of Silence now! Definitely looking it up!
Yes make sure you take care of yourself! Avoid that burnout with lots of sleep and lots of hot cross buns! (I’m partial to the chocolate ones heated in the microwave myself…)
It’s because you’re so strange that you have so many friends, tho! 🙂
Congrats at seeing your book at fairs! That is so AWESOME! 😀 😀 😀
AHHHHH We’re already down to 2 months!? I Can’t wait I’m SO EXCITED! 😀
I’m still here! I read your blog! I’m I’m blogging still too. I don’t know why it feels like blogging has gone down lately. I didn’t really notice until you said something, but I’m still not fully into the community yet to notice? :/
And I read your blog on my phone mostly, and the formatting is fine. I don’t see anything wrong with it? Except I don’t think I could see any interactive elements until I opened the page?
Annnnd yeaah, I admit I’m part of making your twitter blow up. XD Every time I see you post something my thumb automatically hits the like button before I can finish reading cuz I know whatever it is it’s going to be funny/sassy/awesome/realateable or some combination of all of that and I can’t resist! XD
And Oh MY GOODNESS your’e background turned out AWESOME! I’m way to unmotivated to actually finish a huge project like that. XD
And March feels like it was a great reading month for me. I participated in a challenge that was really fun where I had to read 1,000 pages in a week or so which I never do, (I wrote this post on the challenge if you want to see 🙂 https://frozenbooksblog.blogspot.com/2018/03/snow-sculptures-dog-sleds-and-books-oh.html) so I felt like I was reading really fast, so I even got a head start on a book I was planning on starting next month! AND my Goodreads says I’m 2 books ahead on my goal which is good, but I realized the two books that made it go ahead was one was a short story and the other one I DNF’d, so I felt like I cheated? XD Idk.
And I have definitely been unmotivated to write since last year, so it’s not just you. I have just been enjoying blogging and reading more? Which is kind of discouraging because I want to be a writer and that’s what I thought I was supposed to do, but idk anymore? 🙁
And I’m American and we found hot cross buns at the store, but I haven’t eaten any yet. Probably cuz they don’t have chocolate like yours. 😛
And the only tradition I have for Easter is we get up at the crack of dawn to go into the mountains for a 5 minute church service and donuts and coffee and then go home and back to bed. XD. And then when I was little sometimes my mom would make me an Easter basket, but not so much anymore. 😛
Strangeness brings out more strange people apparently.😂😂 Haha. AND YES!! SO EXCITED TO SEE MY BOOK IN THE WILD. I can’t even with how exciting that is (!!) and omg 2 months on the 7th of April. *flails*
Also I’m really glad the formatting is still okay on mobile, thanks for letting me know!!
Duuude, I am ONLY grateful for all the likes on twitter.😂 It’s super exciting haha.
Also congrats on getting so much done on your Goodreads goal!! And WOW that is a lot of pages! *cheers for you* And pfft, DNF’ing isn’t cheating I don’t think! And I add in children’s books when I read them even if they’re only 200 pages. We do what we gotta to stay alive with our challenges.😂
(Maybe this year is just not The Year Of Writing.😂 But rewriting is still needed so at least there’s that. Eep. But hey reading is really good for writers, it’s how we build up our creative tanks!)
I HAVE NEVER HAD HOT CROSS BUNS 😭😭😭 Someone parcel them to India.
OMG THE BUTTERFLY WILL BE GLITTERY?!?!? YOU’RE ALREADY KILLING ME. And you’re like Superwoman wow 25 books in a month?!
I swear your laptop’s keyboard crashes as much as fictional characters die 😂😂😂
Also, I’ve been reading your posts on my mobile since forever and I think the format is really good so hush don’t worry. And turn a blind eye to the bad reviews!
YOU’RE MISSING OUT. ONE IS NOT LIVING UNTIL THEY’VE HAD HOT CROSS BUNS.😂 And I’m killing meeee too I’m so excited about my cover haha.
Also YES. I think I kill as many laptops as characters and it’s becoming a huge problem.😂
(Also thanks for telling me about the format being ok for mobile! I’m really relieved!)
This year has been…slightly unproductive? I finished the first horrid draft of my book…reread it after letting it sit for a month…and then scraped the ENTIRE thing to work on the side character and make her the main character instead…so I still have the idea but…nothing else so there’s that. Other then that I have read quite a bit and I’m hoping my second draft ALL THE characters will just STAY…but that’s a touch extreme.
Also I’m sorry I had a ton of coffee and it’s all hitting me right now.
As for your questions, for some reason I had to come back on here and resubscribe…like I had missed the last…what 3 weeks of posts because my email was dumb, but I’m back now! Love this post and so excited for your book!! 😍
Ohhh no that must’ve been so frustrating!! Although I do understand that feel. I’ve finished books and just immediately been like: nope I did that wrong. 😭😭 But here’s to hoping draft #2 is better for you and behaves!! *sends cake* *sends more coffee* 😂
I’m so glad you’re excited about my book, YOU’RE LOVELY, STEPHANIE. I appreciate it immensely!!
That is so cool your book is at book fairs!!! And your bookstagram background is so pretty and detailed!
I haven’t been that productive as a writer recently, but Camp Nanowrimo is coming up, so I guess I’ve been waiting for the intensity to start. I think it’s made me disengage with blogs a little bit as I try to focus on my stories and prep a bit.
Now here’s a random tidbit. Recently I dreampt I met YOU at some random house (in the sense that the dream told me you were there). This is relevant because there was a cupcake machine in a closet that made great cupcakes. But the machine itself looked like…some kind of terrible, diabolical machine that belongs in a garage. There was also cookie dough in the freezer.
It didn’t involve any writing though. :/
I relate to all the stationary lines in the tweets…
Eeeep, thank you! I’m so ridiculously happy seeing it out there?! *screams softly* IT’S STILL SO SURREAL. And good luck with Camp NaNo!! It’s always pretty fun to write when other people are too, right? (And I totally understand writing and not fitting in blogging. I do that too when I do a NaNo session.)
And omg as long as there were cakes in that dream.😂 That sounds like me.
Happy Easter! I love chocolate chip hot cross buns (not really a fan of the fruit ones).
I’m going to do April Camp NaNoWriMo this year. Hopefully, it’ll make me more productive.
I’ve fallen a bit behind on reading for pleasure due to reading for uni. I’m hoping to get into a good habit again.
Ahhh thank you, Julie, and happy Easter to you too!! (Also I love chocolate so I can imagine chocolate hot cross buns would be amazing too.) AND YAY CAMP NANO! I will be cheering! I kind of will be writing but not sure if it’ll be productive enough to count as Camp.😂
SO I LEFT A QUESTION FOR YOUR Q&A AND I AM DYING TO GET ANSWERS!!!
*coughs*
Whoa, 23 books dude can you lend me your eyes!? How do you manage to read that much and balance them with your writerly and bloggerly (yes I like making up words) duties? No wonder you’re the Queen.
I WILL ANSWER ALL THE THINGS!! Well I hope so.😂If I can haha. But omg my eyes are very tired so basically all the want right now is to sleep but yA KNOW. Too many books to read.😂 (Also I do things really fast?! Not necessarily well, just fast.😂)
Those hot buns look delicious and I want like 50! We don’t have them in my country so I’ve never heard of them before now?? Thank you for showing me the light?? And making me very hungry? I now want foooooood.
And!! Your book!! That I will support!! JUST TAKE MY MONEY?!! I need more books by you ok I just want publishers to discover the amazingness and maybe have a revelation one day over brunch AND DECIDE TO PUBLISH THAT DANDY DUOLOGY YOU WROTE THAT ONE TIME HMMMMM. This sounds so stalkerish I apologize in advance. But I fell in love with that ghost boy that had a cute name that started with T and I’m sad I forgot but the snippets where everything and I’m pretty sure they will be my favourite books of ever when they get published so. PUBLISHERS PLS CAIT IS GREAT WE PROMISE WE WANT ALL THE BOOKS BY HER!!
And as an avid reader of your blog on mobile – it looks great! And it’s super readable and clear and pretty my eyes are in awe. BUT. It’s a bit harder to comment? Not “impossible woe shall I do this” hard but a bit harder then it is on PC. But maybe that’s just my phone and long spidery fingers and inability to remember my email address correctly. Blogging is a nebulous thing.
You should totally try them!! Also homemade is totally best so 🎉🎉(Also isn’t my blog BEST for making everyone feel too hungry all the time!?😂)
OMG IOANA YOU’RE SO NICE TO ME, YOU’LL MAKE ME FLAIL ALL OVER THE PLACE. *squishes you* Aww I’m also so honoured you remember my old projects! Seriously I’m smiling so much right now.😂
And I’m also REALLY glad it’s not too hard to read via mobile. But maybe I should look into the comment system?! (Blogging is really hard on the technical side omg.)
Hi Cait!
Those hot cross buns look good! They’re not a thing here (though they should be), but in my family the Easter tradition is to make Easter buns, which I have done this year too. They were delicious. I’m planning to bake more bread for dinner tonight.
March was a good reading month for me. I read a lot of great books (and some less great).
I’m very excited for the release of your debut :D.
Happy Easter :D!
Gaia
They were totally delicious!! Aaaand all gone now.😂I’m sure I didn’t have much to do with that *whistles innocently* But Easter buns sound amazing too! Basically bread.😂 We love bread.
I’m so so glad you had a good reading month too. <3
I love all your posts 😝also your hot cross buns look DELICIOUS!!!!!!!can you send me some ?🙈😂
THANK YOU MAREN, YOU ARE SO KIND. And no I ate them al.🙊😂😂
I’m sorry you got your feelings hurt by a meanie head review. I like to think that I have an impervious rhinoceros hide and nothing can hurt me, but time and time again, I am proven wrong. I bet you end up with WAY more positive than negative readers. 🙂
Haha I thought I was pretty tough too BUT NOT WHEN IT’S MY BABY.😂And knowing someone doesn’t like it is easier than knowing like…in a few cases where people have said they read it so they could give it a low-star review so…IDK. I just need to leave it alone and not check. 🙊
As usual you post about the tough questions, Cait! I keep wondering if I should keep blogging if my writing ever gets me an agent or a book deal or whatever (though that may still be a long ways off Ahem.) I don”t think I could stop reviewing or blogging if I ever do get that far, though it might be slightly less than before. I don”t know. I”ll have to see how my life is then because I”ll have a smol human to take care off soon too! (Which is so scary omg I”m going to be a mom ahhhh!!) But yeah it depends. I think if you can and want to, you totally should blog! But don”t feel obligated because when you”re a (soon-to-be) published writer, your book is more important than your blog! THOUGH CAIT I”LL MISS YOU TOO MUCH IF YOU STOP OKAY SO DON”T?? custom writings
I definitely don’t plan to stop blogging!! And I think it’s natural to be worried you’ll never make it as a writer, because heck knows I spent SO much time freaking out and crying about that.😂 The trick is to keep going, keep writing, keep improving. I believe in you. 😉
Hi! I’ve been following your blog for a couple of years now and you’ve really inspired me to start my own. I’ve started to use Word Press and I was just wondering if you used the beginner, premium or business one? Thank you so much for all the advice
Aww thanks for reading my blog, Mia! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m on self-hosted WordPress and honestly know very little behind-the-scenes stuff because I have a web designer relative who sets things up for me.😂So sorry I’m not much help!
I . . . didn’t know there was an A Series of Unfortunate Events show on Netflix??? Definitely want to see that now!
March was a *decent* reading month for me. I read quite a few books, but not nearly what I should have. (My reads so far for 2018 have been pretty great! I’ve read a lot of high ranking ones!)
(Also! So many of my writer friends are on hiatus right now for Camp NaNo, so I think it might be a Camp Nano thing.)
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, HANNE, GET THEE TO IT.😂 Season 1 was excellent so I’m sure S2 will be just as perfect (and I’m rereading the books as I watch😂because I am a nerd). And I’m glad March was decent, if not wildly good, for you though! And omg same…2018 is treating me really well for good reads.
(Good luck with doing Camp! *SENDS MARSHMALLOWS*)
(gasp) you read negative reviews of your book. WHY??? come here let me give you a hug,
awww its so nice seeing you get ready for the author life, soon you will be a bestselling author . I cant wait to see what you and alison are working on, im currently reading an e-ARC of her book. seems like you had a good reading month, i didnt really read much cause of school work and all. Your bookstagram background is soooo PRETTY. You are seriously talented, i cant draw anything to save my life . lol .Happy New Month Cait.
I KNOOOOW WHY DID I DO THAT.😭😭I’ve been burned tho so don’t worry, NO MORE. 😂 And haha I mean probably not bestselling but we can dream right?!😂 *sends you cake because you are so kind* And omg that’s so cool you’re reading a copy of Alison’s book! Is it amazing?! I’M SO EXCITED FOR IT.
Happy April to you too!! <3
HIII… I’m one of the people guilty of disappearing from the blogosphere *waves in a small way* . Are the rate I’m going I’m probably not going to be able to engage much until the holidays *cries* We shall see but maybe I also need to work on my time management? Anyway, I clearly haven’t been around enough because I haven’t heard of half these books, as opposed to only a few of them. You should read The Hazel Wood, though. I’ve heard it’s really good.
For Easter, I did in fact eat hot cross buns. Hot cross buns are all that is good in the world tbh. I kind of ate a lot this weekend oops (but #noregrets) And swam in wild lakes and kayaked and got wet and played with dogs and cooked( which I can’t do at uni) and generally had a good time. Hope you had a lovely Easter, and ps I always read your posts even if I don’t comment.
Pfft you have an excuse. 😂YOU’RE OFF STUDYING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD. (I mean, I assume that’s what you’re studying…obviously. What else is there.) And YES I’m so excited for the Hazel Wood!! I’ve heard it’s magical and fairy-tale-ish but yet creepy? SO me. Literally my life aesthetic.
The world continues to spin each year just to get to the time when we all get hot cross buns. (Although stores here literally got them in like…3 weeks after Christmas.😂 BUT OH WELL. SOMEONE’S EAGER.)
(And seriously no pressure to comment.😂💕💕 I know you’re busy!!)
Oh i just ate the largest three days ago with a bit of jam haha!
I’m so sad that you weren’t a fan of Furyborn 🙁 I was really looking forward to next month when it releases, but no matter – I’m still going to read it haha.
And Ms C.G Drews, please go slow on your writing and your reading HAHAHAHA. I’m laughing so hard as i type this!
And i do hope you read Hazel Wood! Will be awaiting your review of ittt!!!! <3
Oh, i'm seriously waiting for April 7th so that i can hear all the amazing answers to your book process!!! Best of luck with drafting your upcoming books!!!
Hey you might like Furyborn a lot better than I did! I’m SO annoyed I didn’t love it because c’monnnn it’s literally MY NAME.😂😂 And fingers crossed I adore The Hazel Wood for sure eep!
(I’m so slow answering comments that I’m nearly up to that Q&A post for the 7th.😂)
Heyy, we read the exact same # of Books in March !
And I don’t have much in thé way of Easter traditions but I do eat a lot of hot cross buns.
And I read the blog on my phone & formatting seems fine. (Only reason commentaires are hard for me is because I have to fight autocollant.)
& beautiful backgrounds, what thé Heck!
Woo I’m glad we both got so much reading done! *hi fives* And I’m super glad the blog is looking okay on your phone then. I was so worried haha.
OMG I am so excited about Series of Unfortunate Events!! I’ve watched the first few episodes and I can’t wait to watch the rest! I’m really curious about this secret project you keep teasing…also I can’t believe you drew that entire bookstagram backdrop! That must’ve taken forever. And I don’t know about on a phone or tablet, but when I open your blog from the WordPress reader on my laptop the formatting is all wonky and there’s a little notification saying “Insecure content blocked – This page is trying to load scripts from unauthenticated sources.” If I click “Load unsafe scripts” it’s fine, but I’m not really sure what that’s about? Anyway, great post and I can’t wait until your debut comes out!
ASOUE is so so good!! And so accurate to the books?! I’m just having a great time.😂 And omg I lost so many braincells over that bookstagram background😂 BUT IT’S DONE. I’M DONE. *collapses*
Ugh that is NOt good news about WordPress doing that to my blog??? I need to look into it for sure. (thanks for telling me 😭😭)
What letter of your keyboard have you broken this time? 🤣 I’m sure you don’t work on any secret project, you are just sitting eating cake. 😝
I’m hopeful that April is going to be a better reading month than March! I’m waiting for Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens to materialise in my mailbox and Eliza and her Monsters waits on my desk. 😃
As for easter, my tradition is to eat as many chocolate eggs as I can!
The space bar can you believe. *sobs* It was just clicking all on it’s own. LIKE NO, I DID NOT GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO MALFUNCTION I’M JUST TRYIN’ TO BE AN AUTHOR HERE.
Oh oh I hope you love Simon Vs!! It’s so freaking ADORABLE. (Also I am highly in agreement with your Easter traditions.)
CAIT!!!! I AM BACK AGAIN!!!! Last month was CRAZY HECTIC for me (I tried doing A Thing of my own creation called March Hare Madness [#never again]) and I basically fell off the face of the earth. Aha. BUT I AM BACK! SQUEE!
And OH. MY. WORD. I STILL cannot get over how gorgeous your cover is. Like no. It is beautiful. I can’t even. And also that bookstagram background???? WHAT?!?! That is GORGEOUS! How?! Did you actually DRAW that and color it?? Or did you find that pretty swirliness somewhere and color it using the most beautiful colors ever?? I am in all the awe either way. Holy guacamole.
(Also, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a hot cross bun??? And what would you define as fruity bread? Because I like raisins in bread, but that’s about it… XD
I’M GLAD YOU’RE BACK AND ALIVE THIS IS SPLENDID NEWS, AT LEAST 78 CAKES FOR YOU! *Cheers wildly* And I’m pretty much petting my cove rall the time haha. And yes I made the bookstagram background from scratch! Drew…coloured…cried. All the art things.😂
Raisin bread is basically hot cross buns, but minus the cross.😂
so many incredible and exciting things to comment on here but all I can think is
23 BOOKS
Who even are you??! I literally can’t even fathom.
I’M A READING MONSTER.😂 But really my laptop was broken so much what else was I going to do.😂
Hello Cait 🙂
I enjoy reading what you’ve been up to. Sounds like you’ve been very busy!
I am very happy as my writing has been going well and I just finished the first draft of a novel this morning (yay!)…. so now I have a LOT of hard editing to get through (which for me is the more boring side…).
But progress is always a good thing 🙂
You must be feeling super excited counting down the days until your book release! 🙂
Ahh thank you, Poppy! I’m really glad to hear that. *flails happily* Also CONGRATS SO MUCH ON FINISHING THAT FIRST DRAFT!! AHH!! Editing is hard but also satisfying when you get it done right?!
I really want to try one of your family’s hot cross buns! I’ve still never had one. Yours look particularly delicious.
I really like the cover for Questions I Want to Ask You!
I want March back. 😭
I am totally biased to think they are totally delicious eeep. 😍😍 But I’m sorry your glorious March is over, ugh. Mine wasn’t stunningly happy but it was satisfying haha. 😂
WHOOOOAAAA….you read like so many awesome books this month!!! At least you read more books than me in March. I only read like (2) measly books in March (although, they are good reads, so that was cool). Hopefully, I’ll dominate April with more books (especially since I went on a FREAK shopping spree in March and I seriously can’t wait to get to those books, especially Children of Blood and Bone)! And, I’m so IN LOVE with your Twitter tweets! So entertaining to read through and they make my days AWESOME!!!
Good books still make allll the reading worth it YAY! And omg isn’t it great having a TBR that you’re super excited about?! My copy of Obsidio just arrived and I’m dyyyying to start.
(Also thanks so much about my tweets.😂💕💕)
Okay, let me add another question to the Q&A: How do you stay original to yourself and come up with new ideas for your blog? YOU are very original and I LOVE UR BLOG AND I WANNA READ UR BOOK AHHHHH!!
For me, I just got stuck reading Eragon, it’s been like two weeks, if not more, and I feel miserable and want to hide on a cave forever now. This year didn’t start well for my writing although I HAVE worked on my third draft for the book I talked to you about before, but now that we’re in April and I’m participating in Camp NaNo I want to achieve all my goals and finish writing two drafts to then go to a brainstorming phase for ANOTHER book idea to THEN go to the editing phase of my April’s drafts. This is so confunsing I got lost about what I have to do, send help (!!)
Aww thanks, Jeanny. 😂 I mean sometimes I do feel like I’m scraping the bottom fo the barrel for the blog.😂I’ve been at this for 6 years so new ideas are getting thin?! But I’m glad it’s still a lot of fun, I AM SO RELIEVED. hehe.
Awk, sadness about Eragon. (Are you going to finish or just scrap it and move onto something else?) But best of luck with Camp!! I sometimes think Camps are great to give us that extra kick into working. Although so says me who’s done NOTHING recently *facepalm* I mean, edits, but they don’t so much count.😂 But eeep sending you all the chocolate!
I’ll finish it, I’d like to know how it ends, but I think it’ll do me good to reread something meanwhile. And thank you!!!! <3 I'm loving Camp so far, I'm actually talking with the people of my cabin *squeals* And I thought I was introverted –joke, I'm still an introverted bookworm, but I am proud of it (!). I believe edits don't count that much either tbh, but that's the hardest part of writing and you're still alive and that's a huge accomplishment so yaaaaaaaaaayyyy for that.
Another great post! Just letting you know I read your blog on my phone and the formatting’s fine! 💕💕🌈 I’m honestly beyond excited for ATPN!!!
AH! Thanks for telling me about the formatting, I’m so relieved hehe. And awww I’m so glad you’re happy about ATPN!!
No problem! 💕💕💕🌈
AH!!! I have been excited/terrified about ASOUE season 2 for over a year, which is quite exhausting. But I have only watched four episodes so far because I’ve had opera rehearsals every night since it came out. What kind of unfortunate timing is this???
Hot cross buns sound amazing, but alas, I have never tried one.
My reading month has been okay. I read about five books, and none of them were wonderful or appalling. They were just kind of…okay. It’s been hard to find time to read with all this school though.
Wonderful post, as always, Cait!
Hahaha I read “for goodness sakes cait” and thought it said “cake” instead of “cait”… are you going to become one? Can you still write if you’re a cake? You’re too young to become a cake!! </3
I AM GOING TO BECOME ONE. It is clearly the ultimate goal here.😂
