When I started school two weeks ago, I dreaded art, becuase I am not talented at drawing, or painting, or anything that requires precision etc.
Then I realized something: they can’t make you fail art. For the simple reason, if they did, it would be to say that you are very untalented, and schools can’t say that sort of thing. Which is why they teach abstract.
I hate looking at abstract. Where is the talent there? But you know what? It’s really actually quite fun to paint it.
We’re doing some sort of projecty thingyummy, where we had to paint a background white. Then last Tuesday, we were colouring it with marbled shades of one colour.
Which colour to choose? Purple, perhaps? In the end, I chose red. Why? It’s dramatic. Eye-catching. I like red. I really do.
So I got my paint and was disappointed to see that it was only lighter reds. Nuts. Oh well, I really liked the dark red. It was so deep and…red. I know. That’s very artistic.
So I swirled red, orange, pink, and white for a while, all the while knowing it was missing black. So i asked for some, and was given dark blue, and then my painting looked up. Red, streaked with blacky-red. A background worth looking at.
I have no idea what’s going over the top. But I hope it fits my dramatic theme.
