Once upon a time I was the reader who ate ONE book and then dashed off to eat a billion new different ones. I never finished series. Utterly disgraceful. The new shinies were just all too tempting. But now?! I finish series. I DEVOUR GARGANTUAN MOUTHFULS OF ONE AUTHOR’S BOOKS AND CALL MYSELF AN
OBSESSED DEDICATED FAN. As opposed to a part-time fan.
I do like reading copious books from one author because there is a certain amount of comfort and prediction that goes with it. Like Rick Riordan always has the same plot arc. Sarah J Maas is always going to break your heart. Derek Landy will make you laugh so hard you look like a deranged seal. It’s nice to know what’s coming. And also ticking off lists and saying you’ve completed a series. We all know THAT is the real reason I’m suddenly addicted to them.
This Week’s Prompt: Top Ten Authors I’ve Read The Most Books From
LEMONY SNICKET/DANIEL HANDLER // 20
A Series of Unfortunate Events x 13 // Why We Broke Up // All The Wrong Questions x 3 // Horseradish // An Unauthorised Autobiography // The Beatrice Letters
I grew up on Lemony Snicket. I FLOURISHED ON LEMONY SNICKET. And I collected all 13 hardbacks and they are my pride and joy. (I need to reread. I seriously do.) And because that wasn’t enough, I went on to read all of the weird “extra” books. Like Horseradish and The Beatrice Letters.
And after I recovered from the devastation of knowing Lemony Snicket was really Daniel Handler (still horrified, by the way, I feel absolutely deceived) I read Why We Broke Up. Ugh, that book. I’m glad they broke up.
JOHN FLANAGAN // 13
Rangers Apprentice x 12 // Brotherband x 1
I was the kid who did archery in the backyard in honour of John Flanagan’s books. I got whiplash on my FACE. Apparently you were supposed to get it on your arm?? Either way, my brother and I were fabulous archers and murdered a hay bale.
RIP hay bale.
CASSANDRA CLARE // 11
The Mortal Instruments x 6 // The Bane Chronicles x 1 // The Infernal Devices x 3 // The Iron Trial x 1
I’m an enormous Shadowhunter fan. ENORMOUS, I tell you. I love the sassy-sort-of-angels-fighting-demons world and I adore the wit and banter. I just finished the Clockwork books — hence the clockwork photo. But I stole this watch from my sister, so shhhh. KEEP MY SECRETS.
MICHAEL GRANT // 11
Gone series x 6 // Messenger of Fear // Eve and Adam // BZRK x 2 // The Call x 1
This dude is downright awesome. I was gnawing at the Gone series before I was even blogging, and basically binge-read 5 of them and had to wait (AGONY) for the Light. Which ripped out my heart, by the way. IT WREAKED DEVASTATION UPON MY SOUL, so you should definitely try this. It’s fun.
MAGGIE STIEFVATER // 10
The Raven Cycle x 3 // The Scorpio Races // Wolves of Mercy Falls x 4 // Books of the Faerie x 2
OH STEIFVATER. If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know photos are 1000% better if they are of a Stiefvater book. Basically, eveything is better if it’s a Stiefvater book. I HAVE READ THEM ALL. SOME EVEN TWICE. (And this is me! The one who doesn’t reread!) And they’re beautiful and intense and the characters are adorable and devastating and occasionally I laugh, but mostly ANGUISH.
Like for instance, on page 1 of The Raven Boys, which is the first of the Raven Cycle quartet, Maggie Stiefvater TOLD US Gansey was going to die. SHE WARNED US. We should not under any circumstance get attached. HAHAHAHA ha ha ha. Oh dear. Excuse me, I am not okay.
So there’s The Raven King to look forward to.
RICK RIORDAN // 9
Percy Jackson and the Olympians x 5 // The Heroes of Olympus x 4
At the beginning of this year I’d read one Riordan book. And now I have read nine. So I deserve a blue cookie or something.
I do love these books! They’re funny and the characters are amazing (and super diverse) and I’ve only got Blood of Olympus to go before I farewell Percy Jackson. THEN ONTO MAGNUS CHASE, because, that’s right, my mushroomlings, I have it in my cold clammy paws. Eeep!
DEREK LANDY // 7
Skulduggery Pleasant x 6 // Demon Road
I love Derek Landy, but I also hate him, because he hurts his character so bad. If you take a peek at the Last Stand of the Dead Man cover above…well. It doesn’t look good for Valkyrie Caine. Skulduggery should be okay, because he’s already dead.
It’s so much more relaxing reading about already-dead people.
JOHN GREEN // 6
The Fault in Our Stars // Paper Towns // Looking for Alaska // An Abundance of Katherines // Let it Snow // Will Grayson Will Grayson
What can I say?! I love his characters! I love how his teenagers are intelligent and precocious, because HUZZAH for teenagers who are nerds! Nerd life is always better. I’ve read all the Green books and I loved them all (4 or 5 stars) except for Let it Snow. But that could be because I’m a Christmas Grinch. I am. So if you even DARE to start counting the weeks to Christmas to me, I will wrap you up like a turkey, put a bow in your hair, and roast you.
HOLLY BLACK // 6
Curseworker Trilogy x 3 // The Darkest Part of the Forest // The Coldest Girl in Coldtown // The Iron Trial
Oh oh! I love Holly Black! I love that she and Cassandra Clare are buddies and I adore both their work. I haven’t read the Tithe trilogy yet, but it’s on my to-do list and I’m ridiculously excited for creeptastic faeries. ALSO. Did you know Holly Black has landed another trilogy book deal?!! It doesn’t come out until 2018 though. SO CRUEL.
SARAH J MAAS // 5
Throne of Glass x 4 // A Court of Thorns and Roses
I love Sarah J Maas’ books but I’m also conflicted. I absolutely screeched myself insane reading Crown of Midnight and The Assassin’s Blade (both are my top favourite books of the universe) but…A Court of Thorns and Roses didn’t do anything for me. And I don’t know if I’m running TO or AWAY from Queen of Shadows because oh! oh! oh! I am so desperate for it…BUT AT THE SAME TIME MY SHIP IS SINKING, AND THERE IS PAIN, AND DORIAN, AND CHAOL, AND HELP.
I will basically read everything SJM writes. Then I will cry about it. #ihaveproblems
-~-
the most obvious question I’m going to ask is… *drumroll* …WHICH AUTHOR HAVE YOU READ THE MOST FROM?!! have you read any of the conglomerations I’m totally besotted with?? who is emotionally prepared for Queen of Shadows?! or The Raven King?! and do you have any authors you will read WHATEVER THEY WRITE?? (mine are Maggie Stiefvater and Cassandra Clare)
Ahaha! I know what awaits you in Last Stand of Dead Men. I finally finished all the Skulduggery Pleasant books (out of order as usual. Turns out going from book 9 straight to book 1 is rather a large leap.) Oh there is pain ahead of you alright. Loads and loads of glorious sarcasm, snark and pain. I’ll be over in the corner waiting for your reaction with a large pile of cake.
Also, you have Magnus Chase? I envy you so bad right now! I cannot wait for that book to come out. Diehard Rick Riordan fan over here. He’s one of my must read authors. I even have his ‘Greek Gods’ on my shelf waiting for me to have a free moment to read it.
And no. Not mentally prepared for The Raven King. Not at all. I can’t wait to read it, but I’m SCARED. Gansey is supposed to be dying. We’re not supposed to get attached? Pffft. Far too late for that. Stiefvater is a genius. Also cruel. Mostly a genius though. But cruel.
OMG YOU fINISHED?!!? Agh. I don’t want pain. I LOVE IT BUT I HATE IT. *cries* I will come to you for cake because…because everything is so unfair in those books and even the COVER of Last Stand of the Dead Men scares me.
I totally have theories about The Raven Cycle. I reckon Gansey WILL die but then one of the other boys will sacrifice themselves, somehow, and bring him back to life and THEN DIE TOO. *sobs* Either way everything is awful and I want cake and denial.
Authors that writes series have such a distinct advantage!! XD Did you colour/draw that art on your John Green pic because omg the details are glorious!!
I need to read one of Rick Riordan’s books and earn myself a blue cookie as well. Every time I see it I’m all HOW HAVE I NOT READ THIS? Greek myths and stuffs.
Also, hurrah on mutual Lemony Snickett and Maggie Stiefvater loveee <3
YES I DID DO THAT ART. hehe, thank you. I swear the photo-editing makes it look better than it does IRL tho.
Omg you haven’t read ANY Riordans?!! I can’t really say anythign though, because up until this year I’d only read one. It has been my Year of Riordan. heehe
Michael Grant is on my list as well, but the only books I have read by him are the Gone series. Obviously I need to read more because that series was a masterpiece. The only book I have read by Sarah Maas is A Court of Thorn and Roses. I really, really need to read the Throne of Glass series because I love her!!
YES! YAY! AND OMG THANK YOU! I literally never meet any Gone fans. Oh well, okay, I meet some. But never enough.
WE WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP… Totally with you, clinging the sinking/burning embers and flotsam of the ship that is the bees knees but will most likely end up deaded. I so sad. I may cry now.
Your posts never fail to make me laugh/snort/bark like a seal, so consider that a win, but also consider a win your FANTASTIC TASTE IN BOOKS. Seriously, have a gold star, and a cookie. And this tiny flaming dragon.
Whilst I have not read all of the deliciously wonderful authors on your list of most reads, I am determined to catch up because a) you recommend them and b) well that’s about it… I trust your taste, YOU HAVE NEVER STEERED ME WRONG, so they are all going on the to read pile. (PLUS! You weren’t blown away by A Court of Thorns and Roses, I KNEW I COULDN’T BE THE ONLY ONE!) But not only that (THERE IS MORE) the ones I have read on this list I am totally with you on the awesome. STIEFVATER BE STILL MY HEART. Seriously, we were all such idiots, she warned us ON THE FIRST PAGE, and we are all stuffed. So stuffed. Like turkeys. At Christmas.
And Cassandra Clare! And Sarah J Maas! And John Green! And Holly Black (who HOW ON EARTH DID I FORGET TO PUT ON MY LIST?! I must have had a seizure when I was compiling authors, because that is truly an epic fail…)
P.S. Was totally tempted to tell you how long until Christmas not through any particular desire to get excited, but more because of the threats involved. ROASTING! BOWS! YAY!
I WILL NOT BE OKAY IF MY SHIPS SINK. ANY OF THEM. JUST. NO. I had a very serious ship sink in another series and I was monstrously unokay with that. :(((((
aFDJSKAL BUT I’M GLAD THEY MAKE YOU LAUGH. #GOALS
Oh oh but you too with ACTOAR?!! YAY. Ahem. Um, that sounds so bad to say. *facepalm* But I just feel so weird because everyone is raving and I found the relationships kind of dark and confusing and not shippable and even a little abusive?
WE ARE STUFFE STIEFVATER TURKIES FOR SURE. And we don’t even care that we’re going in the oven. It’s shamefully sad, truly. *sniffles* OH OH and I totally forgot I’d read a ton of Spiderwick books, so technically I’ve read like 10 Holly Black books or something. :O
I’M GLAD YOU RESISTED. *turns off oven which was prepared for roasting blogglings*
the way you worded the title of your post though lol very clever cait! *gives you a pat on the back*
we have a few similar authors that i’ve read the most from, like for example:
cassie clare! ah i love love love her books. reading them was painful but also a memorable experience. compared to tmi though, tid is my fave. LITERALLY IT IS THE ONLY LOVE TRIANGLE THAT ISNT FRICKIN ANNOYING.
rick riordan! he’s so sassy on twitter lol. one time my friend tweeted him that he’d twerked for house of hades and he was blocked ahah he would also block you if you have any pics related to the movie as your icon :-)))) anyway im a massive fan of pjo and heroes of olympus! i can’t believe the journey is over. ill definitely miss percabeth 😢 who’s your favourite character in HoO? mine’s probably leo valdez. he’s so funny, he’s my bad. also camp halfblood or camp jupiter? im camp halfblood all the way heheh. also i have a magnus chase and the sword of summer arc sent to me but it’s in ireland and im in the philippines still so i can’t read it 😭
ive read most of john green’s books too. even though i hate how mainstream it is now hahah.
and Sarah J. Maas. I love her books. Tbh I’d gladly read her grocery list lol. But one thing I hate is her fascination with love triangles. Like why Sara why? Also regarding Queen of Shadows, I read the spoiler review and I am so angry and upset. My ship is sinking and I also feel like she is ruining Chaol’s character *sighs* it’s like she flipped a switch. I don’t think I’ll be emotionally ready for Queen of Shadows. Anyway you’re from Australia right?? Isn’t she doing a signing there later this year? Are you going? She’s doing a signing in AZ (I’m not there though) but at least my Uncle is going to get books signed for me yay.
Wow this comment is super long. I apologise hahah.
Why thank you. hehe. 😉
HAAA I AM OPPOSITE WITH CASSANDRA CLARE THO!!! I loved TMI a lot more then TID. I don’t really know why?! Jem and Will were both so interesting and I was more sure she would NEVER be able to choose….but then, I read City of Heavenly Fire FIRST so I did know who she chose. >_> I know it’s hard not to let interwoven series spoil each other, but that is kind of annoying. *sigh*
OMG I LOVE LEO TOO. I CAN’T DECIDE THOUGH. Leo or Percy for sure. I think Jason is cool, but kind of boring. Leo is just a spunky ball of adorable live-wireness. :’)
Yes, I saw some spoilery review (just like a line, I didn’t read it all) and it sounds like Chaolena has sunk and I AM NOT OKAY WITH THAT. I don’t think it’s fair on readers to make a match and then break it up for no reason???? Like I guess some people will be happy but NOT ME. And I don’t like Nehima. Just sayin’. I think she was selfish. And I never really felt anything for Rowan or whatever. *shrugs* So while I ADORE the series, I kind of don’t love it as much as I did when I was looking forward to Heir of Fire. 0_0
YES I AM IN AUSTRALIA. I am no where near the right city though. xD And while I ADORE authors, I don’t actually crave meeting them that much SO YEAH. >_> It would be cool to have signed books though. *sighs wistfully*
I THINK MEG CABOT IS THE ONE I’VE READ THE MOST FROM. Maybe 15 or something? Or, actually, maybe the Trixie Belden books because there are like a bazillion of them…
I too am worried about Queen of Shadows. Mostly because I tolerated Throne of Glass, LOVED CROWN OF MIDNIGHT AND THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE, and then liked Heir of Fire but didn’t love it. Although as you know we have very conflicting thoughts on ACOTAR because I adored it 😉
I really should get around to reading more Stiefvater…
I read all the Trixie Belden books (that had been released at the time) as a kid. I LOVED them. My friends and I used to act out the stories, and my early creative writing plagiarised more than one of the stories.
OMG ME TOO WITH HEIR OF FIRE. and I’ve seen a few reviews that alluded to the Chaolena ship being sunk forever and…no. I can’t handle that. There is just no way. You can’t have a series where people are SO FREAKING PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER and then break them up for no reason. I still don’t like Nehemia. >_>
Here’s a blue cookie for you!
I’d eat up any Neil Gaiman or Carlos Ruiz Zafon book. I’ve read most books by Abbi Glines when I first started dipping my toes in adult romance. Here’s my list https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/08/11/top-ten-authors-ive-read-the-most-books-from/
Happy reading Cait!
*gobbles blue cookie* AREN’t YOU THE KINDEST. Neil Giman is sooo good. I think I’ve read 4 of his books now and I love loooove them and must read more.
You’ve seen my list and know that it’s Riordan by a small margin, but wow, this is such a great list – fantasy is your game Cait for sure! Obviously Derek Landy, duh, he’s like a god I pray to now, and I LOVED Curse Workers and have Coldest Girl in Coldtown, but haven’t read it yet, godddddddddd. I’ve read some Cassie, but only 5, which is poo. OH MY GOD I DIDN’T ADD HER TO MIND. Whoops? I have CoFA, CoLS and CP to read, I just.. haven’t yet. Ugh. Still, great collection Cait, you carry on eating, okay?!
YES I WILL CARRY ON EATING ALL THE BOOKS AND AUTHORS OF EVER. I seriously need to stop being a wimp and just FINISH Skulduggery.
So basically I am not at all the read-all-the-books-from-one-author kinda girl, which is why I didn’t do this TTT. But oh, your list kind of makes me want to be that kind of person. I guess I just get… tired? On my list would be, probably… JK Rowling (Duh), Jodi Picoult, and then all those kiddie authors like Francine Pascal and Enid Blyton and KA Applegate from the days before I got tired of the same arcs.
Anyway. TOO MANY AUTHORS! Not enough time to read.
I seriously just need to find the cure to something so I can read for the rest of my life.
IT IS TRUE. I used to be like “ooh new shiny!” so badly that I’d never even read sequels. That and my bad memory makes it haaard. But there are SO MANY incredible series, where all the books are out, and I just wanna read them all. :’)
MICHAEL GRANT!!! I read his Gone series in middle school and into high school and I LOVED it. It was the first series that my friend and I bonded over, and it led to many, many more! He’s such an underrated author, at least I think. Besides the Gone series I’ve read BZRK, but I haven’t continued on with that series yet. *hides in shame* 🙂
He is TOTALLY underrated (although he must sell well because he has sooo many books out, right?!) I just love ALL this books. Although I found a few of the middle-ish Gone books a bit boring, but I think I was in SUCH A hurry to find out if they’d get out or not I was rushing. xD Light MURDERED my feels Omg. Still not okay. BZRK is rather terrifying but the audios are golden. I listened to the first two on audio but my library didn’t have the third and now I’m sad. XD
I’ve never read any of these books but now I’m going to be busy looking up all these books on Goodreads! I really like the sound of the Gone series by Michael Grant so I’ll need to check that out soon 🙂
OH YES PLEASE DO. Not enough people rave about Michael Grant. I need to recruit likeminded fangirls. XD
Oh, Cait. Please stop eating authors. Especially Maggie. DON’T EAT HER OR WE’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO READ THE GIRL RACING BOOK SHE’S WRITING.
OKAY. I’LL SPIT THEM OUT IF YOU INSIST. BECAUSE AREN’T I NICE AND AGREEABLE LIKE THIS?
It’s definitely Rick Riordan for me. I’ve read his Kane Chronicles, PJO and Heroes of Olympus series (except for Blood of Olympus, because I’m still not ready and I was spoiled about a certain character’s death ohmygosh what is a heart?) Plus the novellas and the Kane and Percy crossovers. (Yes, I’m obsessed. :D) And of course, I’d totally get Magnus Chase! Eep!
I’ve also read Cassandra Clare’s TID and TMI (also except for Heavenly Fire. What’s with me and last books in the series?) And all of The Bane Chronicles. Glitters! So yeah. 🙂
And I’m still working my way through A Series of Unfortunate Events. I’ve only read two books, though. 😛
GORGEOUS PHOTOS!!
I still have to try the Kane Chronicles! I’m literally about to start Blood of Olympus once I finish blogging for the night. SO EXCITED. I didn’t know there were novellas though?? Omg. I need find them too obviously, hehe.
Awk, you didn’t like CoHF??? I LOVED IT. I didn’t like the beginning, but I loved the ending. IT BROKE ME. The Bane Chronicles are just the best though. I wish ohhh I wish Magnus got his own, like 6-book series and not just novellas because I LOVE HIM THE MOST I SWEAR.
No, I haven’t yet read CoHF! I’d love to, of course, because not finishing a series will forever haunt me. O_O (Just kidding, I’m known to abandon series. 😛 )
I loved the crossovers! Percabeth and the Kane siblings in one novella? Brilliant! And Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods is totally hilarious! 😀
I have only read Sarah J Maas from your list. I am currently reading Crown of Midnight. I have read a lot of Stephen King and Anne Rice. I am going to check out some of the authors you mentioned. I LOVE your pictures btw, very nice photos.
YESSSS. Crown of Midnight is my FAVOURITE. that and Assassin’s Blade. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Heir of Fire but it still got 5-stars out of me because aaall the feels. 😀 Awk thank you! I am mostly in love with my camera.
Good job Cait! all the books. Hmm, I think I’ve read the most of Lemony Snicket, and lloooooots of Garth Nix and Tamora Pierce (probably the most from her because she’s written a lot) and I’ve read like 10 Terry Pratchett books. I approve of your list! I’ve read all of Sarah j. Maas and Cassandra Clare too. And I’m currently listening to the Raven Boys audiobook and it is cool (Welk just left his reading)
I will read Tamora Pierce and Michelle Cooper and Marissa Meyer no matter what.
I need read Garth Nix. AND TERRY PRATCHETT. Although I did try one of his books and it just didn’t do anything for me…which was weird because I adored the book he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman. Gah. I should try again because that dude has a LOT of books published.
AFJDKLSA YOU LIKE THE RAVEN BOYS?? I AM SO GLAAAAAAD.
Wonderful list Cait, so many fabulous authors and books and lots I haven’t read myself although I have recently bought my first couple of Skulduggery Pleasant books thanks to you, you bad influence you!
AHHH YAAAAAAAY I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE SKULDUGGERYING (that is totally a word don’t doubt this). I hope you like them. IF FEELS ATTACK YOU I SHALL BE THERE TO GIVE YOU SHOCK BLANKETS AND CHOCOLATE.
Part of who-you-read-the-most is who-writes-the-most, I think. And who-writes-the-shortest-books. So mine turns out to be Dr. Seuss.
Here’s my Top Ten Authors I’ve Read the Most. Love to have you stop by!
Haha, ah yes. I’ve read a lot of Dr. Seuss in my time too. I was skipping childhood books though and focusing on YA. 🙂
We share Lemony Snicket, but I’ve read from everyone on yours except Landy. They just got edged out by others for me. 🙂
Check out my TTT.
AWk, I LOVED HOW DARK THEY GOT. But at the same time I’m so freaked I haven’t read the last 3 books. I need work up my courage.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought archery was amazing as a kid.;)
I need to read SarahJ. Maas’ books…
My list: http://amandanicolle.blogspot.com/2015/08/take-ten-authors-i-have-read-most-books.html?m=1
DID YOU SHOOT HAYBALES TOO??? OR PERHAPS SIBLINGS??? My brother’s friend nearly shot him. Because boys are idiots. -_- I was a fabulous archer.
Rick Riordan was at the top of my list (13 novels plus two of those short story collection tie-in things). I am so jealous of your copy of Magnus Chase right now . . . . Riordan is definitely one of those authors that I’ll read whatever he writes, and Alexandra Bracken is also an auto-buy author for me. (I think the next TTT topic is auto-buy authors, actually, so that’ll be fun.) I also had Lemony Snicket on my list–I’ve only read Series of Unfortunate Events, but that’s still thirteen books.
He is so so incredible, I LOVE HIS STYLE. And it’s funny. I’m such a sucker for a funny book. XDXD I just have to read Blood of Olympus (it was taking foreeever to come in the post) and then ONTO MAGNUS CHASE HUZZAH. Omg, is that the next TTT prompt?! YAY. Except most of these authors will be on there again. xD
I just read my first Michael Grant book, The Messenger of Fear, and love it! It was strange and gruesome but fascinating – have you read it?
Of course Maggie Stiefvater and S.J. Maas would be on my list as well. The author whose books I own the most of is Alyxandra Harvey; I have all ten of her books. I hope I haven’t missed any. I think Ness and Maas probably come next.
I honestly don’t think I’m prepared for The Raven King. Gansey must NOT die!
YES. 😀 I loved Messenger of Fear! It was sooo creepy, but al lhis books are and that’s like 90% of the reason I like them because I ACTUALLY get creeped. Hehe
EMOTIONALLY PREPARED FOR QUEEN OF SHADOWS? HAAAAAH, NOPE.
Anyway. I think Cassandra Clare would definitely be on my list, too — I mean, I’m pretty sure I’ve read almost everything she’s published. (Although not The Bane Chronicles, YET.) JK Rowling probably would’ve made it onto my list as well.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE EMOTIONALLY PREPARED FOR QOS? I’M SURE IT’S NOT. I’M SURE EVEN THE VULCANS ARE TREMBLING.
Mine is quite obviously Neal Shusterman because I will consume ALLLLL the Neal Shusterman forever and ever because all the feelings. Marissa Meyer, too, although she doesn’t have much out yet — I’d pretty much buy anything of hers without question. I’ve read a lot of Brandon Sanderson, too!
OBVIOUSLY NEAL SHUSTERMAN. hehe I am definitely going to read any and every Marissa Meyer book of ever. I mean how is it legal for her to be so insanely talented anyway??? SERIOUSLY NOW.
Great list! Love the photos accompanying your authors on the list; Rick Riordan is also on my list this week, having read all of the Percy Jackson books and Heroes of Olympus books 🙂
As for me, I would have to say the author I read the most from would have to be William Shakespeare (finished reading all of his plays earlier this year :3) 🙂
My TTT
Eep, thank you! ^_^ I am addicted to my camera. I have Blood of Olympus on my bed RIGHT NOW to start reading. 😀 SO EXCITED. Eep, Shakespeare?! You intelligent nerd. 😉
Ooooh I liked this list! I’ve read all JK rowling books that aren’t adult of psedonyonic(so totally a word), i.e, the Harry Potter series. I’ve read A LOT of Rick Riordan but only 1 egypt book, Eoin Colfer, but no Maggie Steifvater. I’m not super interested tbh, but we do have shiver and linger at the library so I might read those at some point. I read GONE and hunger, I think, but then got bored and someone told me the ending and it was getting a bit creepy for me. I’ve only 1 SJM, though I want to read the rest, and the first Skullduggery pleasant (but I like them, so a trip to the library is in order. beautiful photos, Cait <3
Pseudonyonic is such an epic word it NEEDS be a word. Write a dicitonary, Shar. I SHALL SUPPORT YOU. Ooh, MUCH trips to the library are in order. *nods* I think Skulduggery, particularly, gets better as it goes along. But it gets MEGA creepy. hehe, just so you know.
You have some of my fav authors here and a few should have appeared on my TTT but I had the hardest time deciding how to work out my ten. Frankly, after looking after everyone else’s lists, I failed this Top Ten Tuesday. Ergh.
How can you fail at TTT?!! Not possible! 🙂
Yes! A fellow Christmas grinch! Let us raid whoville together! >:)
The author I’ve read the most of I believe is Gordon Korman. He’s a hilarious Canadian author and has a ton of books out. Most are either action, or humor. Both of which I love.
Oh, goodness. You would love his book “I Want To Go Home”. XD An escape artist at summer camp. And he’s dragging this other hapless kid along with him.
Omg, THIS IS FABULOUS NEWS. :’) We shall unite at Christmas time in our incredible grinchiness. *steals all the christmases and burns them*
I SHALL GOOGLE THIS BOOK THEN. It sounds hilarious. 😀
New life goal: Observe while Cait picks books from her bookshelf and arranges them on the floor to take pictures of them XD
Also while Cait keeps pushing her dog off piles of said books because HE DOESN’T LIKE IT WHEN I DON’T FOCUS MY WHOLE ATTENTION ON HIM AND HE DESPISES MY BOOK COLLECTION. XDXD
Lemony Snicket! We should totally buddy reread the series together so we can feel old and relive our childhoods. I have read everyone except Landy, Clare, and Stiefvater. I’m ready, and excited for QoS, I’m going to try to go to the launch, but I don’t know if I can. $30 for 2 TICKETS PLUS THE $18 BOOK?! I don’t know if it’s worth it when I can meet her another time for free. Several, I’ll save you time reading both. They’re all in the post! Plus Kate Scelsa, Nic Stone!
OMG. THERE’S A LAUNCH?? An expensive launch. 0_0 I agree that that’s a bit ridiculously priced. hehe. OH WELL. I guess authors need support too and she’s obviously THE BEST OF THE BEST *hyperventilates*
Wow, it seems like we have a few of the same authors in common! I know that at least for me, Rick Riordan, Lemony Snicket, and John Flanagan are all people who I have adored endlessly over the years. Because I have read a lot of their books, pretty much for the exact same reasons you have, although I don’t have a record of murdering hay bales. *shame shame*
When I think of books I’ve read the most from, weirdly, I think of when I was younger, because series seemed to be a lot longer then. I know that I got through probably at least thirty of the Magic Treehouse books by Mary Pope Osborne, and I read all of the A-Z Mysteries by Ron Roy, which, as you might predict, has 26 books in it. I know I’ve read three different series based on the works of Martha Finley, so I don’t know if that counts, and yeah… That’s all.
It’s weird that I read less of the same author as I get older. *has existential crisis as she reaches the end of her teenage years*
Seriously?? You didn’t get the urge to shoot things after reading 5 or 9 John Flanagan books in a row? HEATHER. YOU ARE SO CONTROLLED. I am so ridiculously excited for the Halt and Crowley books coming soon too. 😀
I probably read a million Boxcar Children books, but I secretly decided to pretend I didn’t. XD hehe
No one is emotionally prepared for Queen of Shadows. NO ONE. I’m not ready and will never be ready and how is there less than a month left ahhhhhhhh.
Other than that, I love Maggie Stiefvater but have only read The Raven Boys! Tried Shiver but couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll have to return to it at some point – I know it’s much loved!
I AGREE. I THINK IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO BE PREPARED FOR QUEEN OF SHADOWS. WE’RE ALL GOING TO DROWN IN FEELS TOGETHER AND SARAH J MAAS WILL JUST BE SITTING ON SOME THRONE SOMEWHERE CACKLING. I’m sure. I’m sure that’s what she does in her spare time.
The Scoprio Races is also FANTASTIC. It was my first Stiefvater book and probably still my favourite. 😀
Great list. I read Let It Snow, but really only liked the Maureen Johnson story. I am seeing Maas and Clare on a lot of lists. Wonderful blog and great art on the “Ok Ok” pic.
SAME. It was such a weird short-story-mix??? I really hated John Green’s one and I thought it was pointless. D: So sad, since I’ve absolutely adored EVERYTHING else by him.
Omg, thank you!! 😀
So I just did a rolecall on my books and realized that the author I’ve read the most of was Jean Craighead George. I don’t remember exactly how many I’ve read, but it was for a contest a few years ago. Lots of animals. I like the way she writes animals, though, because she doesn’t try to give them human thoughts/emotions. She writes them AS ANIMALS.
Of the books on your list, Rick Riordan and Lemony Snicket made it onto my list each with 11 books. And I’ve read two of the Ranger’s Apprentice books. I’ve been meaning to bring home book 3, but I’m kinda scared to.
My autobuy authors are Jaye L. Knight, Sarah Holmen, and a few other self-publishing authors who I love.
Oh?? Why are you scared of Rangers Apprentice?! 😀 I’m not as big a fan of John Flanagan’s writing anymore, but I DID so love it when I was smallish. :’)
I love your list, although at the time time it makes me feel like a sucky reader because I haven’t read nearly enough of the books by the authors that I should have done. For example: John Green = 1. Rick Riordan = 3. Michael Grant = 4. Cassandra Clare = 6. This makes me very sad.
Two of my ‘I don’t even need to know the title to know I am going to read any of their books’ authors are Colleen Hoover and Tillie Cole. I have loved all of their books that I have read so far and their have been quite a number!
I’m ASHAMED to say that I am currently a 0 for books read by Sarah J Maas, but I am actually a 3 for books owned and looking totally pretty sat on my book shelf for her 🙂 Someday I will get round to reading them…someday!
Oh you’re not a sucky reader…I haven’t read ANY Colleen Hoover (or Tillie Cole) books AT ALL. SO SHAME ON ME TOO. D: I hope you do try SJM someday. They’re horrible and totally break hearts and souls and feels…but do try them. DO IT.
HOLLY BLACK LANDED ANOTHER TRILOGY DEAL?! AND IT’S GOING TO BE ABOUT MORE OF HER DARK FAERIES?!!
Yeeeessss.
I just have to say that the “Okay Okay” thingie looks lovely. Did you draw it?
I AM RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED FOR MORE HOLLY BLACK BOOKS. I’M JUS TSO SAD THAT IT’S SO LONG TO WAIT. Like what are they doing tantalising us so early??? HMMMM?
And yes. hehe, I did draw the Tfios “okay okay” thingy! 😀 I’m not awfully proud of it though, but still. FAN ART.
My most read author is Rick Riordan, then it’s J.K. Rowling and Cassandra Clare tied 🙂 I’ve only read the Spiderwick Chronicles (a long time ago) and The Iron Trial by Holly Black, but I want to read more of her work!
OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THE SPIDERWICK BOOKS. So I’ve actually read stacks of Holly Black books then. :O *Awards self*
Basically just Meg Cabot. I’ve read about 15 of her books and that’s it. Though I did read a ton of books when I was younger but just didn’t record them on GR because I don’t remember anything from them. Like I read the 8th book in the Series of Unfortunate Events. And that was it. Haha.
SO YES you are VERY IMPRESSIVE. I am very impressed! I wish I could just binge read series all at once!
I haven’t got any of the Series of Unfortunate Events on goodreads either because I read them pre-goodreads. I admit 90% of the reason I want to reread is so I can review them. xD
Great list! Holly Black made my list too!
Holly Black is awesome! 😀
My most-read authors aren’t really current. They’re probably Ann M. Martin, L. M. Montgomery, and Beverly Cleary. Aside from a few trilogies, I haven’t spent much time with any one author’s books recently.
And I’m totally not prepared for Queen of Shadows or The Raven King. I haven’t read Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, or Blue Lily, Lily Blue yet!
OMG YOU HAVE SOM STIEFVATER AND MAAS WORK TO DO. You have mass work for the Maas books. HAHA HHAHA < -- get it?? GET IT? Okay, yes I'll shut up now, I'm so endlessly lame.
I feel like I really need to read me some Cassandra Clare. I keep eyeing City of Bones, then going ehh maybe not, then eying it again like I think I’ll like this, then….no probably not. I just don’t know! I probably will give it a try one day.
I tried City of Bones and was like “Meh” but then I literally read like 20 pages. heeh. AND THEN I watched the movie and just fell in love with the world and promptly devoured all 6 books. XD
Hi! It’s me again! I’m back again after ages of not commenting on your blog! (Don’t know whether you missed me but still) Cake?
I also LOVE A Series Of Unfortunate Events (even though I haven’t quite finished them yet (please don’t kill me, I have cake!)) I NEED TO FINISH THEM BECAUSE COUNT OLAF (that’s his name, right?) NEEDS TO DIE. Like, I don’t know if he will but I want him to. *shudders* I hate him so much.
Other than Lemony Snicket, I have yet to read any books by the authors on your list, but DON’T WORRY I PLAN TO!
Oh, and here’s my post just in case you want to look. I made a reference to YOU (because you’re the best, obviously)! 😛
https://hufflepuffthoughts.wordpress.com/2015/08/11/ttt-tenish-authors-ive-read-loads-of-books-by/
Elly xx
*finds you two crumbs of cake* YES I MISSED YOU. I AM GLAD YOU’RE BACK. IN FACT. I MIGHT EVEN BE GENEROUS AND GIVE YOU THREE CRUMBS OF CAKE. #amakindOverlord
YES. Count Olaf is awful and evil buuuut, something happens in book #13 that maybe made me even feel a teeny tiny bit more kindly toward him. :’) SO KEEP READING BECAUSE YOU HAVE GOT TO GET TO THAT MOMENT.
You are a kind overlord :’)
I’m even more intrigued now! All that’s left to do is actually BUY the rest of the books, finish my current books, and read the rest! 🙂
No one is emotionally prepared for The Raven King, and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.
I actually haven’t read (or even heard of) quite a few of these authors!
I definitely have authors that I will read whatever they write – JKR (with the exception of Casual Vacancy, because ugh), Juliet Marillier & Tamora Pierce (despite their more recent works not living up to my expectations), Melina Marchetta, Robin Hobb…
GUESS WHAT. I made my own TTT this week (you know how much I love lists) and posted it on Twitter. I never get to self-promote myself, but I get to now. So go look at my awesome list! I’m quite impressed with it. 😀
YES. I agree with that. The stoic ones either are dead inside or lying. *nods*
I need to read more Melina Marchetta. XD I’ve read…um, 2 of her books??? And c’mon, she’s an Australian author so what even is my excuse?!!
OMG. YOU DID A TTT ON TWITTER. YOU KNOW THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING AND NEXT YOU’LL BE GETTING A BLOG RIGHT??? 😉 XDXD
Ooh, which ones did you read? And more importantly, did you like them??
HAHAHA, don’t hold your breath. ;D
I AM SO NOT EMOTIONALLY PREPARED FOR QUEEN OF SHADOWS. THAT BOOK WILL BREAK ME!!!!
My top read author is Jodi Picoult… I’ve read 22 books of hers, so I am very dedicated!!! 🙂 I was obsessed a few years back and devoured every book she had out. Now I get every new release when it’s out. She has some amazing novels.
I still need to read a Maggie Stiefvater novel!!! I KNOW, I KNOW! The worst thing is that I own 5 of them, so I really have no excuse not to have started some.
I loved Demon Road by Derek Landy, so I really want to read his Skulduggery Pleasant series. I’ve bought them all, so I can get to them very soon.
Also loved Magnus Chase, which has made me determined to finish the Percy Jackson series and start the HoO series.
I will forever read whatever Sarah J. Maas writes. I’d probably happily gobble up her shopping lists 🙂
I’M DYING BECAUS ESO MANY PEOPLE ARE READING IT AND I JUST WANNA SOB AND SCREAM BECAUSE I WANT IT BUT I DON’T EVEN WANT IT BECAUSE MY SHIP IS SINKING. I can’t really just…no. Not if Chaoleana is never going to be a thing again??? I just can’t.
ALSO I’M SO FREAKING WORRIED ABOUT DORIAN POOR LITTLE BABY.
Omg, you haven’t read Stiefvater??? CHARNELL. HOW CAN I LOOK AT YOU IF YOU HAVEN’T TRIED ANY OF HER BOOKS. FIX THIS.
The Skulduggery Pleasant books are endlessly wonderful bUT I like them more as they go on. The first 3 are more plot orientated and youngish? But then they get dark and scary and fabulous.
So I have no idea how to tell who’s books I’ve read the most from because I only got a goodreads a year ago, and generally have a bad memory. But I know I’ve read a heck of a lot of CS Lewis (Narnia x7, Screwtape Letters, Space Trilogy x3, Surprised by Joy, and a bunch of little essays). That’s 12-plus essays. So I guess he wins?
I like to think that I am emotionally prepared for The Raven King, because I am just a chill person overall, but I am probably overestimating my chill abilities and will freak when I read it. Problem: I will be studying abroad when it comes out, which means if there’s a book tour, I won’t get to go! Unless Maggie decides to go to Denmark. Yeah, no. Also, I hope there’s a large English bookstore in Copenhagen so that I can buy TRK as soon as it comes out. And all the other epic books coming out between January-May next year.
I have yet to read TOG etc, but I did enjoy ACOTAR, and lots of people say TOG is better so wheee I’m excited. 🙂
I must read more Holly Black because Darkest Part just made me undeniably happy so I need more of her writing in my life. And one of these days I will read both Skulduggery and Snicket because you and one of my irl book friends (who I think has a very similar sense of humor to you and you would get along very well) keep talking about them. 🙂
I have a horrific memory about what’s INSIDE the books, but I know which ones I’ve read and I know if I liked them or not and probably know the plot. BUT DETAILS AND CHARACTERS = NADA. hehe I’ve only read the Narnian books by CS Lewis. So I admire your Lewishness (that is totally a word, don’t doubt me now).
Oh I blame all the emotional BOOK BLOGGERS who are just hyping me for the Raven King. It’s definitely not my feels escaping my Vulcan brain and running rampant. Haha. No no. I’m perfectly sensible.
*collapses on the ground screaming*
OMG. YOU NEED READ SKULDUGGERY. It’s like THE book to read if you like witty banter and endless snark. If your friend is anything like me, she is clearly gloriously fabulous.
I’ve only read John Green from your list. BUT a ton you listed are on my TBR for you know one day. I have read a lot of New Adult stuff in the past so I had a couple of those authors at the top of my list as well as some series I read a while ago. As for authors who I will read anything they write – Rainbow Rowell and Colleen Hoover.
AWk. I need to read more Rainbow Rowell…specifically her adult books because her writing is just so wonderful.
I love the Raven Cycle series too. I haven’t read the third book yet, but I’m already attached to Gansey, so I know it’s too late for me. I love your list and your write-up. You made me lol multiple times! Thanks for sharing and thanks for visiting my blog, Bookworm Book Reviews. 🙂
It’s too late for all of us. *sniffles piteously* We should’ve been sensible BUT SERIOUSLY NOW. WHY DID SHE HAVE TO MAKE GANSEY SO ADORABLE??
Eeep. Lemony Snicket–I’ve read the whole Series of Unfortunate Events, plus the Unauthorized Autobiography, but I really do need to read more of him. And I still haven’t read anything by SJM, though Throne of Glass looks good. Also, I really need to read The Coldest Girl in Cold Town, The Scorpio Races, The Raven Boys, and ALL THE THINGS EVER. I might even be tempted to nibble on An Abundance of Katherines, though I can’t seem to get too excited about John Green. *cowers*
As for authors I’ve read a bunch of, I have all the Ally Carter books (except her two adult ones), I have all Veronica Roth’s books so far (and I’m really interested in the next two she has coming out). I’m pretty sure I’ll follow Stefan Bachmann until the day I die (in bookish terms, not in real life–because, hello, creepy). I also want to read everything ever by Marissa Meyer (Winter, Heartless, can’t you come quickly?). Also, I need to read all the things by Patrick Ness and Nova Ren Suma. And have you read The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell? The writing isn’t the most frabjous ever, but the world-building is great–they were my favorites when I was a small person. Also, I have nineteen of Shakespeare’s plays, and I haven’t read them all, but I might be a little bit addicted.
I loved the Unauthorised Autobiography. OKAY WHO AM I KIDDINg??? I just loved everything he wrote ever. I need to read more of his YA books though. I really have zero reason why I haven’t. xD
Aw, not a John Green fan? It’s okay, like 70% of the people I know don’t like him. SO I SHALL JUST LOVE HIS BOOKS DOUBLY HARD TO MAKE UP FOR IT. XDXD
Omg, Ally Carter wrote adult books?! How did I not know that?!! I’ve officially read 7 of her books now…but that all happened in a rush because I’m bingeing Gallagher Girls. I finished another one yesterday. I WANT TO READ ALL THE THINGS BY NESS TOO. And nooo I haven’t even ever heard of The Edge Chronicles. I shall look them up. BECAUSE WORLD BUILDING.
I FORGOT LEMONY SNICKET. Gah.
Also, WHYYYY. Let me sob in my corner while you read Magnus Chase.
HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE PERFECT LEMONY GLORIOUSNESS THAT IS SNICKET???
Been meaning to read “Paper Towns,” but haven’t yet. I’ll have to read it prior to the movies DVD release. And Sarah J. Maas is another “must-try” on my list. 🙂
YES! I always read books before the movies! (Except for The Help. Omg, I don’t know what happened there. Oh, and City of Bones. OKAY OKAY! So I mostly always read the books first.) XD
So many authors on your list who I still haven’t read… Shamefully Lemony Snicket being one of them. What was my childhood?! Jokes aside, I do intend to collect his books though, even now as an adult, and I’d loved to pass them on to my son one day. I also have a collection of Roald Dahl books that will be passed on too – Roald Dahl is probably my most read author as I enjoy both his adult and children’s work. I’m may begrudgingly pass on my Harry Potter too… Although I couldn’t think about that yet!
Maggie Stiefvater and Holly Black are two authors I’d like to discover some time in the near future.
Oh oh I HIGHLY recommend Stiefvater and Black. 😀 They’re like two of my top-favourites-of-all-time *happy sigh*
I don’t know if I could ever part with my Snicket collection. :’) Okay, okay, ONE of them belongs to my sister, but I’m hoping she’ll forget because THEY ARE MINE AND I LOVE THEM. *cuddles stack*
I love this post! I adore majority of these authors as well!
YAY FOR BOOKISH TWINISHNESS. (That’s totally a word *nods*)
I am HORRIBLE at finishing series nowadays… I was much better at it as a child, before I discovered the DEEP MYSTERIOUS WELL of fantastic books with such potential that I get overwhelmed and don’t read them… I tend to flit from book to book, from series to series. I’m a freaking book hummingbird. This list is honestly just perfect. I have no other words.
Oh oh I understand this tho. I DO. Hummingbird is such a perfect description. I used to be so so like that, but now…I jus t need…closure on my favourites or something?! And I LOVE saying I’ve finished series. 😀
You are a truly dedicated fan. From th few authors I know on your list it appears you’ve read every book. Wow.
Anne’s TTT
Nearly! 😀 I’m still working on Rick Riordan. buuuut, a lot of the others I have. OBSESSED FANS FTW.
I reread that first paragraph 3 times. It totally cracked me up! I probably should have listed John Green on my list too. I did a John Green blitz a few years ago. Okay now – I am giggling about your comments about Handler. I have to leave your blog or I will get nothing done all night!
OMG. :DDDD BEST COMMENT EVER. SERIOUSLY THIS JUST MADE MY DAY. HEHE. I did a specific John Green binge too! Right before the TFIOS movie came out because reasonsssss. I love his books so much.
So many wonderful people! I need to read Holly Black, and I am currently devouring the Infernal Devices trilogy (it’s so great). Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler (I was such a confused child when learning this, “How is he two different people?”) is on my list as well. I want to read his DH books, and I STILL need to read The End.
-Monica @ Tomes Project
SAME. I was just like “No, Lemony Snicket is LEMONY SNICKET. DO NOT TRY TO TRICK ME.” I’m glad I’m not the only one devastated by his deceit.
Maggie Stiefvater and Cassandra Clare and Sarah J Maas of course, but here are some others that you might not have come across:
Phil Rickman – horror, paranormal/supernatural elements and a struggling female priest whose Pagan daughter can’t stay out of trouble. Love the Merrily Watkins series, the stand alone horror novels and the historical novels. It might help if you’ve been to Wales.
Robert Jordan – The Wheel of Time was not always great, but it was a great achievement and I read every word. Even when Brandon Sanderson didn’t quite get Mat.
Sara Douglass – All the books. The Axis Trilogy was a game changer in Australian spec fic and she wrote some of the strongest female characters out there, even if their outcomes weren’t always great.
Tom Robbins – I don’t know if I could read his books now, but when I was 19 he completely changed my world view.
Oh, and Julie Kagawa and Katie McGarry. I’d buy their shopping lists.
HOW HAVE I NOT READ ANY OF THESE???? And did you just say that Sara Douglass is AUSTRALIAN? OMG I AM SO HAPPY. *runs to goodreads*
Yes, although sadly no longer with us. She was a great blogger, before blogging was a “thing”. She was very generous with her time and really appreciated her fans.
Silly random fact *
When I discovered John Green, I was ecstatic to find out he was from Indianapolis. Indiana doesn’t have too many well-known.. well.. anything. lol
And as for the Author I have read the most from… That would be Stephen King (In no specific order).
I have just recently discovered Neil Gaiman’s books and I have indeed fallen in deep -gushy- love with his mind. So, I’m sure it won’t be long before he becomes the Author I have read the most from.
THAT IS NOT A SILLY RANDOM FACT. It is an awesome random fact. 😀 I always get excited when I find an author from Australia. Just ANYWHERE in Australia, because I feel like everyone who writes decently good YA is American. xD
I loooove Neil Gaiman too! I’ve read 4 books by him, but I neeeeed more.
Those Lemony Snicket books were so addictive. They were a bit sad, but good. I need to read more Stiefvater. I’ve read a measly one, but it was a very good one. YAY FOR SJM, I LOVE her and her books.
I AM NOT EMOTIONALLY READY FOR QUEEN OF SHADOWS.
YES. Sad + good + addictive = Lemony Snicket. Also confusing, but in a good way. Like I was always so frustrated because I wanted ANSWERS.
Duuuude, only one Stiefvater book?! YOU MUST FIX THIS SHE IS A STAR. And SJM is determined to break my feels. :’)
I don’t know what author I’ve read the most from…I’d say J.K. Rowling is probably up there though, because I’ve read 10 books from her at this point. 🙂
Omg, you are a JK Rowling dedicated fan. *bows in reverence to you* I’ve only read 5 of her books. I NEED WORK ON THIS.
YEAH! So many great authors on here Cait! You know how I am about the Percy Jackson series, so I’m so glad that Rick Riordan is on here. 😉 (So jealous that you have Mangus Chase by the way. Let me know what you think of it when you finish). And yes to Sarah J Maas and John Green too! Thanks for sharing and, as always, great post and great choices Cait! ♥
AJFALDKS I AM EXCITED ABOUT MAGNUS CHASE. IF YOU LIVED IN AUSTRALIA I WOULD GIVE IT TO YOU THO, BECAUSE I KNOW YOU’RE A BIGGER FAN THEN ME. 😀
Great list! I’m super impressed with how much Daniel Handler you’ve read. That is insane! I want to get into his work, so what do you suggest I read? I’ve only read his Series of Unfortunate Events!
Also, I just realized that Maggie Stiefvater should’ve been on my list too. Oops. :$
Oh oh I totally recommend his spin of series about Lemony Snicket learning to be a detective! 😀 IT’S GREAT (though I love ASoUE more) and Why We Broke up was quite interesting and it’s the only YA book I’ve read of his. I NEED MORE.
Oh, how I love Maggie Stiefvater’s books! I just loved The Wolves of Mercy Falls and I put off reading Sinner, as I didn’t want the series to end, but I’m finally reading it now, and slowly, so it lasts longer. I haven’t read the Faerie books yet though; do they make sense even without the last book published? And I am both dreading and so excited for The Raven King. What even…? So much!
The author I have read the most from is Agatha Christie; I have read just about all of her books, so that’s around 74. And I still love re-reading them!
Omg, Sinner is the most glorious creation in the universe. *hyperventilates with love for it* AND YES. Both the faerie books nearly read like standalones any way. Tbh, I don’t remember how they conclude, I NEED TO REREAD. But I was planning to reread just before the 3rd book came out, but seriously, it gets pushed back every. single. year. WHY ARE YOU TORTURING US, PUBLISHING WORLD??!
I love all your pictures! I didn’t even think about doing pictures for mine! Ha ha! I found some books on your list that I might need to add to my TBR list! Thanks for stopping by my TTT list. Happy reading!
I always do pictures these days because I’m so addicted to my camera. xDXD IT does limit what I photograph though because I don’t own aaaall the books of ever BUT IT’S FUN. XD
My most read Author would have to be Diana Wynne Jones, her books are so whimsical, snarky, and just plain fun. Everytime you do these lists, I get out a pen and write all of the authors and books down. Then I spend all my money acquiring these gems. It’s been working out lovely so far.
Did you just say whimsical AND snarky?! Omg, why have I not read anything by this author yet *Dashes for goodreads*
MAGGIE STIEFVATER <3
That's all. She's perfect <3
IT IS TRUE. I HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SAY BUT I AGREE WITH YOU 1000% ON THIS.
Some of these I have yet to read at all. *hides*
*lures you out of hiding with cake*
I wasn’t including series from childhood, but I also read all 13 Series of Unfortunate Events plus a least one of the extra books, I’m forgetting the title. Something from the VFD…idk.
I’m only half including childhood books, because I read ASoUE when I was like 15. XD (I’m not including the 60+ Boxcar Chidlren books I read, omg, obsession must?!)
Hmmm . . . author I’ve read most of . . . I don’t read this one anymore but when I first became a bookworm all I read was Erin Hunter and her Warriors series. Which is an absolutely huge series of books if you’ve ever seen them taking up a whole three shelves at a bookstore. There are 24 books in the series, plus I read 4 of her super editions, 3 field guides, and about 8 graphic novel additions to the series for a total of 39 books. At least. Second to that, also from my younger days, was Kathryn Lasky with her Guardians of Ga’Hoole series and Wolves of the Beyond series. I think there were thirteen books in Ga’Hoole and like six in the Wolves one? John Flanagan would be my third, I think. 🙂 I LOVE all his books and did you know he has a prequel series coming out starting this fall? I’m so excited because it is about Halt and Crowley back when Morgarath was just starting his rebellion and all that. MORE HALT SARCASM I CAN’T WAIT.
YES I DID KNOW THAT ABOUT JOHN FLANAGAN. I AM SO RIDICULUOSLY EXCITED. Halt and Crowley were like my favourites of all and now we get to read more about them?! DREAMS DO COME TRUE.
Hooray for John Flanagan and archery! (Although Robin Hood was the reason I got into the bruise-encouraging sport). Rangers Apprentice is such a fun series. But I *gulp* am one of those people who often drops series after 7 books (seven seems to be my limit), or just takes YEARS to finish them. I am too easily distracted! However, I am impressed by your loyalty and dedication.
IT is totally a bruise-encouraging sport, right? And I’m sure my mum was cringing in horror at our hopeless and near-death-ful archery attempts. AH BUT WE SURVIVED. Hay bale was not so lucky.
I’ve only been loyal these last few years tho!! I used to read, like, 3 books. That would be my limit. But now I get so hungry for aaaall the answers.
Ahh… Rick Riordan. My first ever fantasy YA author I didn’t end up hating. 🙂 Brings memories. Holly Black and Sarah J Maas are freaking amazing too. We have a similar taste!
Ivana | Block of Beauty
Oh yay! I’m glad he helped you like fantasy. 😉 FANTASY IS MY LIFE.
My internet has been dead so I’VE BEEN MISSING ALL THE CAIT POSTS AAAAAAHHH <3
Murdering the haybale and all involved. I LOVE THIS. XD YOU ARE AWESOME.
I think I've figured out that you like series better than standalones. For one thing, you read so fast that books are basically your equivalent of use mere-mortals' short stories. For another thing, you love characters the best, and characters can just have so much more going on when there is an enormous series to fall in love with them with. Thirdly, they're the book equivalent of a TV show. 'Nuff said. 😀
As for amounts of books by an author… J.R.R. Tolkien, Lloyd Alexander, and Diana Wynne Jones ARE MY PEOPLE. I have read 29 books by Lloyd Alexander, plus two picture books. Tolkien we are not counting because I read lots of things ABOUT him and his stuff too, so it's limitless, even though he sadly only wrote a few things… Diana Wynne Jones I am going to read every single thing of hers I can get my grubby paws on I DON'T CARE I WANT THEM ALL. I think I have read 17 so far…?
OMGGG HELLO DEBORAH I HAVE MISSED YOU. YOUR INTERNET HAS NOT BEE KIND.
Ahhhh, YES. I do love series. XD Although, weirdly, I was so averse to finishing them until recently. I kind of just want to try every ice cream flavour, you know?!! BUT NOW: give me series. Aaaaall the series. And it’s killing me that I’m reading SO MANY NEW ONES and having to wait for each book to come out. *cries and wails and eats books* And yes. I LOVE That series are the bookish equivalent of TV shows. XD
29 books!??? DUDE. YOU WIN. My 20 seems measly besides that. XD
Great list, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for visiting. 🙂
I have actually read very few of the authors that are on your list.
I only read the first 3 of the Lemony Snicket books because honestly before i started following book blogs and book tube i had no idea that there were even more then that. If you can believe that.
I have not yet read any books by Rick Riordan -i know, i know- and i have not yet gotten around to Maggie Stiefvater, even though i own the Shiver trilogy (series? i have no idea) and i do want to read the Ravenboys because i hear such fantastic things about it, that i really want to read it.
And i have not yet read the Throne of Glass series.
Am I behind on the good YA books or what? But your list is fantastic because i basically have a list now that i can refer back to what i wanted to read and always forget, so thank you so much 🙂
What i can say is that I personally am not a fan of John Green. Or at least what i have tried yet by him. Maybe i will try something else someday and fall in love with him since everyone seems to love him Who knows?
Also I have to confess that I don’t see the appeal of Cassandra Clare as of yet. I have read two books from the Mortal Instrument series. It was fine. The writing was nice. I did not like a few of the characters so i have no idea if i get more from that series. And i own the Clockwork angel book but have not read it yet.
But as i said I am so happy to have your list know, so that i can work my way through a few of them and see if i find other authors that i love series from. Or that write a lot of books. Because i do enjoy authors that write lots of books or series.
And last, I am so with you on ACOTAR it was fine, but other then the really fantastic writing there was nothing too special about that book.
I do have a question… JK Rowling? have you not read Harry Potter? Did i miss something?
Anyways we have no author in common so that is fantastic. I love those kinds of lists. Endless new authors or at least books by them to check out!
This is an endless comment. I am so sorry. I tend to blab when i am excited.
Pfft, NEVER be sorry for endlessly wonderful comments. 😉 THEY ARE WELCOME HERE. *hugs comment*
I’ve only read 5 HP books. *shrugs* I’m not a huge fan of JK Rowling. The oboks are good, but I Find them a bit…tedious.
Ahhh, I’m sad you don’t like Cassandra Clare BUT THAT’S OKAY! Not every book is for everyone. xD I TOOOOTALLY RECOMMEND MAGGIE STIEFVATER THOUGH. All her books, basically. The Shiver series is utterly adorable but I think The Raven Boys is her masterpiece. And yes, ACOTAR was good but not great and that saddens me a lot because I thought Sarah J Maas would be on my insta-buy list for EVER after I read 4 throne of Glass books. :O So we’ll see. xD I’m so so desperate for more Celeana Sardothien. *dies waiting*
I can understand what you mean about Rowling.
But for me finishing a series is always very important and once i read the entire thing and waited that long for the books i kind of had to re-read them and after awhile not loving them is impossible, even though that are so many aspects that i think could have been done better. So while i love her writing, the story itself is something that could have been done better in some ways -not that i am saying i could have written them better, mind you. But her writing just was very much to my liking and made me love her books 🙂
Which by the way goes over to Clare. I enjoyed her writing. But her characters… i did not enjoy the putting down of other characters -especially the female/female putting down is always something that goes on my nerves, especially if it is over boys!- and the relationships or starting of them or just overall crushes really in the first book were just a bit… extreme for me. But i will give her another try because i enjoyed her writing style. So i will see what think of her Clockwork Angel book.
And Stiefvater… I think i might have to pick up Ravenboys and give that one a try first or i just give Shiver a read next month. Do you have an absolute favorite that you recommend (other then those that you have already mentioned that is)? Because if you do, please share. 😉
I honestly don’t really think that there is an author out there that one person can love everything they write. Which i personally find perfectly alright, but i don’t think that there really is such a thing as an Auto-buy author if you really want to read and enjoy all their books. Simply because they can’t constantly write the same books over and over again -that would be utterly boring!- and if they don’t do that some stories will just not be something everyone loves even if they loved their other stuff.
But you won’t have to wait that much longer for the 4th of the Glass series right? I hope that will be what you are waiting for. Since i think there is nothing worse then waiting for ever for the next book in a series and then be disappointed in it.
Alright i left once again a huge comment for you. And as much as i believe you that you enjoy seeing a huge comment on your blog, the amount of comments that you get and the length of the ones i leave will get on you nerves quickly i am sure. 😉
Just wondering: haven’t you read Harry Potter?
I’ve read 5 of them…I’m not the biggest fan. >_< I DO LIKE THEM THO! Just didn't grow up reading them.
OMG I LOVE RICK RIORDAN SO SO SO MUCH. I also hate him. Because of the end of Mark of Athena. But I digress. YOU HAVE MAGNUS CHASE?! YOU LUCKY DUCK! A lot of people have asked me to read Cassandra Clare’s books, so I’ll check it out. Another author that I would read anything they write would be J.K Rowling.
Oh, also, I nominated you for the Infinity Dreams Award. Check it out here:https://booksinasuitcase.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/infinity-dreams-award/
I HAVEN’T READ MAGNUS CHASE YET BUT SOOOOOn. I wanted to read Blood of Olympus first and my order was taking FOREVER to come. But now it is my cold clammy paws *dances in delight* OMG I AGREE ABOUT THE END OF MARK OF ATHENA. *wails*
Ahhh, thanks for the nomination! 😀
I honestly just want to come see what authors you’ve read the most just so I can come and stare at your creative book pictures. Okay, going back to staring now …
AWK. WELL. THIS IS FABULOUS NEWS WHICH PLEASES ME GREATLY.
Rick Riordan, Maggie Stiefvater, Sarah J. Maas and Cassandra Clare would all definitely be on my list. Surprisingly I haven’t read a Holly Black book yet, but I’m interested in The Curseworkers trilogy.
Auugh, I cannot WAIT for Magnus Chase, The Raven King and Queen of Shadows. The Raven King is killing me especially. I can’t believe she’s really gonna do it. I just need one kiss. ONE. Preferably a chapter long.
The curseworkers is a GREAT Holly Black place to start! 😀 She does a lot of creepy faeries but the Curseworks is strangely absent of them. But soooo much con-artist work and magic. Eep!
AH I AM LATE FOR THIS POST. *cries*
But YES Lemony Snicket. VFD. Darkness. DESPAIR. Mysteries. Everything. BOW DOWN TO THE POWER OF THE SNICKET. I’ve read fourteen and have some catching up to do with the other books he’s written.
😛
QUEEN OF SHADOWS. I don’t even have words to communicate the sheer excitement because in the end I’ll be trying to vaguely communicate through screech noises and tears and ASKLDG1@3PL’s XD Lovely list, Cait <3
HEHE YOU ARE NOT AS LATE AS I AM FOR EVEN REPLYING. omg, I blame books. I’ve been eating them and neglecting my blog.
*bows to the power of Snicket* THERE IS NO DOUBT TO HIS ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUSNESS AND GENIUS. I will read everything he writes ever after the end.
I WILL SCREECH TEARS AND ANGUISH WITH YOU OVER QUEEN OF SHADOWS. *GNASHES TEETH WITH FANGIRL FEELS*
YAAAS RICK RIORDAN. He’s my most read-from author (12 books), and I AM SO EXCITED FOR MAGNUS CHASE ASDFGHJKL!!!! I kind of didn’t love Blood of Olympus though. It wasn’t satisfying for me–the weakest Percy Jackson book, hands down for me. 🙁
I *own* all of Sarah J. Maas’ books so technically she should be *this* close to making it onto my list, but I haven’t read The Assassin’s Blade yet… *coughs* I’ve just heard that it brings all the tears and I can’t un-ship Calaena/Sam if I end up shipping them. :O Is it weird that I don’t have a Throne of Glass ship? I don’t feel them. .-. Love the characters as individuals, though. ACOTAR was actually my favorite SJM book. You make me sad, Cait.
OMG THAT MAKES ME NERVOUS FOR BLOOD OF OLYMPUS. I have it on the top of my tBR but I’m so nervous to start it because it’s the eeeeend of Percy Jackson and his adorableness. *sniffles*
YES IT’S WEIRD THAT YOU DON’T HAVE A THRONE OF GLASS SHIP. But probably better?? I think my ship is officially sunk. 🙁 It’s actually kinda spoiling the series for me soooo no-ship is probably the wise course of action here. XD
DR. SEUSS, 42! Ha ha! I had to split mine into three life sections of five (I do Top Five Friday as you know) because I had too many ties, and the outrageous numbers were from my childhood. Walter Farley Middle Grade horse books, 20. I have a feeling Maggie will be edging out one of my current oldster reading authors by the end of the year. And, I still have to go and check to see if they have a special price bundle of Unfortunate Events books. I am cheering that you are finishing series now! * toots a tin horn*
*throws confetti on self* YESSSS. I’m even finishing off things I started years ago. (Which is quite difficult given that I don’t reread much BUT I’M TRYING.) And I kind of didn’t do my childhood favourites, or I’d have 60 Boxcar Children books on this list. xDD little bit obsessed? Yes.
J. K. Rowling is probably the author I’ve most read. After that I’m not sure, I don’t tend to read many big series. I just finished the fourth Percy Jackson book (thank you for reminding me!) so that’s four by Rick Riordan. I’ve read four by Veronica Roth, but I can’t think of any author between JKR and four books.
I really need to finish more series.
Hehe, I was pretty much like this right up until a year or so ago. SO I UNDERSTAND. I can’t wait for Veronica Roth’s new books! *flails with excitement*
YEESSS, so glad to find another Michael Grant fan in the blogosphere! A lot of people seem to actually hate his books. I can maybe see how he’s not for everyone, but then again I also don’t get it. I got to hear him speak once at the National Book Festival and he is just *so* awesome. Did you know he dropped out of high school and was basically homeless for a little while SLEEPING UNDER BRIDGES IN EUROPE and now he’s a best-selling author married to another best-selling author? Amazing. He’s really funny too.
Also, A+++ for the Princess Bride gif XD
I KNOW RIGHT?! how could anyone hate his books? THEY ARE SO INCREDIBLE AND FUNNY AND TERRIFYING. I didn’t know that about him tho. OMG THAT JUST MAKES ME ADMIRE HIS BOOKS EVEN MORE.
NOOOOO!!!! I DON’T EVEN CARE ABOUT THE REST OF THE POST WHHHHYYY DID YOU RUIN LEMONY SNICKET FOR ME NO ONE’S SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHO HE IS!!!
I would read what Sarah Maas wrote if it were on toilet paper. Even when she wrings my heart into pieces or makes me angry, I love her. SHE IS SO PERFECT.
Daniel Handler and Lemony Snicket are different people. Daniel just handles Lemony’s work, to keep him safe. Obviously. LET ME LIVE IN MY DELUSION.
C.J.
Sarcasm & Lemons
I haven’t read a lot of these, but I’m hoping to read Throne of Glass soon. ^ ^ I read a lot of Jill Williamson and Bryan Davis because I’ve met them in person and I’m biased. XD
OH MAN QoS is pure awesomeness at the moment Cait! AWESOME I TELL YA
I have only read TFIOS but I dunno, I didn’t like the Paper Towns story so it’s kind of put me off John Green? I also need to read Heroes of Olympus and the rest of the Raven Boys series and everything.
AHHHH I AM SO JEALOUS. XDXD hehe, but I shall wait with baited breath until it comes out. 😀
Aw, I’m sad you didn’t like Paper Towns. It’s my 2nd favourite John Green book (TFIOS is my favourite) but hey, not all books are for everyone. xD ZOMG YES PLEASE YOU DO NEED MORE RAVEN BOYS AND THEIR ADORABLENESS IN yoUR LIFE.
I want to read more John Green. I’ve only finished one book outside of TFiOS and I abandoned the other. I think TFiOS stars ruined me for liking any other John Green books. Is that possible?
I’m currently on Book 10 of the Series of Unfortunate Events (The Slippery Slope) – I’m on the home stretch now and absolutely LOVE them! Don’t mention the Lemony Snicket not being Lemony Snicket thing…..he’s real, and his Mum really did name him Lemony
