Christmas means end of year. End of year means concerts. Concerts means….
Thus, we present to you, our awkwardness and awesomeness…with a musical twist.
Tonight we’ve just returned from our end-of-year concert at our local conservatorium. cait did her debut cello solo performance (Sonatina in C by Breval) and on the piano she played The Setting of the Two Suns by David Lanz. mime performed with a trio (doing Salut D’Amour by Edward Elgar) and for her piano solo she did Bouree by Handel.
We are now exhausted. Flushed (it’s very hot here). And snacking on triumph chocolate.
|mime, our mum, cait|
Waking up on the day of the performance with a cold and then going to school stuffed with codril.
Going to school 2 and a half periods late and then finding out that a very important practise has been cancelled. Because of those 2 and a half periods you missed.
Because said practise was cancelled, waiting an extra 15 minutes to be picked up from school.
Messing up piano solo.
English project (my WIP Letters to Elizabeth) being up to 7,000 while the rest of the class is about on…ah…page 2. (But, on the other hand, 7k is pretty awesome!)
Having friend compliment my shirt and saying, “Yeah, it’s from the opshop! And my skirt is from the opshop too, after being hand-me-down from my sister!” *cue awkward looks*
Posing as a violin (but actually playing the flute) in a trio.
Resolving a really big decision.
Eating caremello chocolate.
Getting some special compliments after concert is over.
Excited my WIP is getting so fat!!
Listening to favourite Christmas carols.
Holding my niece without her having an epic meltdown.
Coming home to hear nephew squealing, “mime! mime!” and then conducting concertos and symphonies with him. (He loves that!)
Tuning cello in church. Every kid stops to stare at you. Silence… Hi?
Playing debut cello solo at concert with cello set up all wrong. The tuning pegs stuck in my ear.
Grabbing 2-year-old nephew before he picks up a random guitar (or destroys a Christmas tree) during the concert. (Yeah, I wasn’t performing at that point. I was being Aunty Fabulous.)
Having mime wear my skirt…and I wear her shorts to the concert. Hmm. Well, only we knew.
Trying to go to bed after watching Prometheus…
For the first time in my LIFE I didn’t completely crash my piano and cello solos at the end of term concert!! *insert screaming!!* OHMY!!!
Stringing origami balls across top of the stairs, just high enough so you don’t bonk your head. But everyone else does. (Sometimes it’s fun being short.)
Eating white chocolate after a burning concert! (Burning as in blushing…I don’t know why.)
My hair growing out to my waist! The tips reach past my hips. Ee! I’m so proud.
Having my niece smile at me! (She’s a month old now.)
Teaching my nephew to poke people. All people. And then laugh. He’s a kid after my own heart.
