I’m very proud of the way this story’s progressing. I had a thought–and epiphany of sorts. Most of my characters…weren’t even supposed to be. Laura Greenwich, the nurse. Carl O’Braddock, the soldier. Gordon Barr, the major. They just came. And now they’re a lot bigger than I’d ever intended. They were just a name and now they’re a character. And not only that, but accidentally, they gave me a theme.
I hadn’t meant to make them the way they were. They’re all accidents, pure and imperfect. But perfect for me.
This, of course, puts the pressure on when I create new ones. But that’s not important. The point is, my writing is working itself now. It hasn’t done that before. And so, I am excited!
