Welcome back to another edition of the Beautiful People Writers linkup, hosted by myself and Sky! We have some particularly epically delicious questions for you this month and then next month?! TIME TO START PLOTTING FOR NANOWRIMO! (Squee!) We’ll be having some special-question-editions like we did last year.
But let’s dive into September’s batch! And, OH! Don’t forget to stop by and visit other linkers. I try to get around to everyone, but I fail a bit. FORGIVE ME.
-~-
Don’t forget to grab the button and/or link to this page on your blog! So anyone can join in!
1. They’re in a crisis: who would they really like to see right now?
2. Are they easy to get along with?
3. Who was the last person they had a deep conversation with?
4. They’re in the middle of a huge crowd of people: how do they feel?
5. Do they believe in luck or miracles?
6. Do they like and get along with their neighbours?
7. If they could travel anywhere in the world, where would they go?
8. How do they feel about their body?
9. What is the cruellest thing someone has ever said to them? How did they react?
10. What’s the kindest thing someone has ever said to them? How did they react?
NOTE: If the button doesn’t work for you then try just saving the image and uploading it your blog and then “linking” it like you would a sentence! It works. Trust me.

oh oh oh I will try to do this this month. Really, really. I don’t think I’m going to be doing NaNo in November, because I have several fled trips, lots of final tests and other things in the next several months. But there are things I want to write, but I’m going to be travelling through january and december, so maybe then? We’ll see. (so in answer to the school question; I don’t) There are, however several short stories I want to write. I’m hoping to squeeze time in for one of them sometime soon (it’s going to be an allegorical anti-establishment one, most probably, with reference to the current refugee crisis) (can you tell I’m a geography student) I know the character aren’t as developed, but could I do beautiful people for a short story (that britsh raj era cinderella retelling itches to be known) Do you write short stories?
I can definitely tell you’re a geography student. *nods* BUT THAT SOUNDS AWESOME. I do not write short stories. My brain just doesn’t think in short stories no matter how much I try. AGH. >_<
At the moment I’m trying to do some more edits on Daisy List before I send out more queries, and I’m also rewriting Wanderland. I should probably start plotting my NaNo novel soon but I haven’t got around to it yet.
THESE QUESTIONS ARE EXCELLENT.
YAY I AM GLAD. And also, omg, you’re busy, right?! So many projects! I’m trying to actually stop fluffing around and plotting in my head and start plotting on paper before I forget everything. Omg, get your act together, Cait.
Hiii! Just realized that I actually missed last month’s Beautiful People because I didn’t end up working on my book but THIS MONTH SHALL BE DIFFERENT…I think. I’ve actually got so many ideas and stuff buzzing around my head – I want to write poetry and short-stories as well as work on my WIP but since I exclusively wrote poetry last month, I think I should just take a break and work on my book instead.
High school started two or three weeks ago and I’m a sophomore so I’m already starting to feel the stress. My school actually changed the grading system but I have MAJOR exams/tests coming up next week and I’M SO NERVOUS. Sooooo I may have been using writing to procrastinate but I also like to write in the morning before school officially starts. We have this thing called “late start” days at our school and I love to write or just review what’s happened so far and read through previous chapters so I’ll feel more like working on it when I get home.
HEHE, THAT’S OKAY. I missed it too. *sends self to the corner of shame* I mean, I host the thing but I FORGET TO LINK UP SO MUCH. GAH. I totally know how you feel with all the ideas buzzing! ME TOO. I’m like plotting 3 books at the moment and my head is messsss.
Omg, good luck with your exams. 😐
Ooh, this went up earlier than expected but ALL THE BETTER. Now I have one whole day to look for suitable gifs to go with my answers. XD XD These questions were really fun, and I think I may be climbing slowly out of my writing slump? HOPEFULLY. I SHALL MAKE A WISH ON A CAKE. Looking forward to the special NaNo editions — I discovered BP through those editions, and my NaNo project should be quite fun this year 😀
It was only technically one day earlier. XD haha, but Sky was going away so we decided to get a crack on it. AND AREN’T THEY FAB QUESTIONS? #humbleandproudofit You’re in a writer slump though?! NOOOOOO. I’m in a plotting-slump. It’s all in my head, but getting it on paper is WORK and bah. I just want to read.
Ooh these questions are BRILLIANT!!! I’ve wanted to do NaNoWriMo for the past few years but arrrrgghh school school school it never leaves me alone. Therefore I’m not doing NaNoWriMo this year… maybe 2016??? Pfff. We’ll see but I highly doubt it. ANYWAY YES BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. I haven’t seen it before and I wondered… will you be answering the questions using your characters at some point too? 😉
I hope you do get a chance to do it someday! I only did my first NaNo last year and IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. hehe So much camaraderie with other writers too, and I totally love that. 😀 I hope I’ll be actually doing the linkup myself. >_< I KEEP FORGETTING. I'm sort of in-between projects, but if I get my motivation into gear, I WILL TOTALLY DO THIS.
I’m first drafting a fantasy story at the minute, but I seem to have lost my ability to articulate a sentence. I keep redoing the beginning but I’m hoping that, now I have the characters and world-building down, this will stop being a problem. I really love this project. 🙂
I had to shelve my rewrite because it was never going to work. It’s sad but, originally, it was only intended as a flashback practise exercise so I suppose I should stop mourning it and move on already…:(
I’m starting uni soon, so I’m kind of worried about how that’ll affect my writing schedule. Fingers crossed it won’t.
What are you working on right now?
Omg, I am in mourning with you. D: I haven’t fully shelved any books, like in the back of my head, I think I’ll resurrect them SOMEHOW. SOMEDAY. But yeah. It is sad to admit a book just needs to gather dust. *pats shoulder* *feeds you chocolate* And I hope you do find time in amongst uni!! DON’T LET UNI EAT YOU COMPLETELY OR I WILL MISS CHATTING WITH YOU.
Ohhh, right now, I’m trying to plot out my creepy Peter Pan rewrite. I’m going to change like 90% of it. -_- But I’m struggling to get the motivation to actually PLOT. Boo. And I’m also trying to stick a plot for my Russian Heist book on my wall…with all the sticky-notes and strings and such. Again. MOTIVATION. WHERE ARE YOU COME BAAAACK.
Love these questions! I think I’ll tuck them away and muse over them a little bit, I definitely think they will be helpful in the next coming months. Mostly for Nano. Thanks! 😀
Yes, omg, I’m already plotting for NaNo too! Glad I’m not the only one. XD *scrambles madly to do all the research*
Maybe, I’ll participate this month!!! I don’t know if I’ll answer publicly or to myself, but I definitely may because I think this would be a good way to get to know my characters, and I want to talk about my writing more online, or at least try. So, this would be good, healthy even. I’ll be going into the research phase after I finish my TBR from the library, and I’ll make writing a necessity in between homework, and lunch breaks.
OMG I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW YOU WERE A WRITER TOO!! AHHHHHHH!! THIS IS FANTASTIC! 😀 Even if you don’t feel comfortable blogging about your writing (which is totally okay! :D) I still hope the questions are useful at some point. 😉
Great questions, as always. 🙂 *ponders deeply* As for me, writing has been a bit slowly. I had to be away from home for over two weeks, and I had to do a lot of traveling because my mum had to get a tumor removed, so that really ate into writing and reading time. I mean, I had time, but when I change locations, I just can’t concentrate. But gah, now I’m gearing up for NaNoWriMo too. And I’m moving!!! *runs around screaming my head off* And how is your writing coming along, Cait?
Omg, I hope your mum is okay! 🙁 That must’ve been a super stressful time for you. And I totally understand not being able to write anywhere else…ME NEITHER. I have to be at home, in my room, flopped on my bed or else focus is futile. XD Ahhh, I HOPE YOUR MOVE GOES WELL. OMG!! And NaNo is seriously close. *flaps around trying to decide between three billion books* I think I’m writing a dragon book for NaNo and if I’m feeling particularly motivated, I was going to tackle a Heist book this September. But let’s face it. I ain’t feeling motivated. -_-
Can’t wait to do this one, I still haven’t decided on a character though.
That’s the hardest part, right?! DECISIONS. XD
Brilliant, thank-you. 🙂
Can’t wait to read your post! 😀
I love these questions, Cait. One of them is so relatable to my story right now! I’m actually trying to write a scene where my main character, who’s rather unsociable, is left alone at a party so I’m totally gonna ponder on #4. 🙂
Yaaay I AM GLAD. It’s been interesting reading everyone’s posts and seeing most people’s characters hate crowds. XD introverts unite!
Cait! This is amazing! Why haven’t I seen this on your blog before? For a master lurker, I’m clearly useless. I love the idea of Beautiful People, so much so that I’m going to go back and look into all your other ones. I’ll definitely be participating when I launch my blog back up again though!
This year is going to be the year I win NaNo. I know, I said that last year too, but even though 2015 has been a crappy year, I’m sure that this will be my saving grace. I’ve decided that pantsing my way through is not going to cut it this time round, and I’m going to spend the next two months plotting out this beast of a book. I am cheating a little in that about 10,000 words have already been written from previous pantsing attempts, but it’s gone through a rollercoaster of change over the last two years that in the end it won’t matter so much.
Of course, like everyone else, exams just so happen to be in the middle of November (THANKS UNIVERSITY. NOT). So I’m going to have to be really strict on myself. Then at the end of November I’m going to Sydney for five nights, so maybe I’ll try and be all arty and hipster and having writing sessions in quaint little coffee shops on the Rocks. Or maybe at that place that does awesome desserts. Because food.
I’ve been in a writer’s slump (too). My hard drive got corrupted and unless I win the Lotto, there goes about twenty or so pieces of writing I’ll never get back (cries). BACK UP YOUR WORK TO MULTIPLE SOURCES PEOPLE. I now write on Google Docs, then download with a date stamp and upload to Dropbox so I have three places where the document is saved. I also have the terrible problem that I’ve got this awesome narrative slash better-than-Game of Thrones – telenovela going through my mind that when it comes to plotting out or even writing my fantasy something sticks and goes “Cannot Compute.” Cures, people?!
Also I’d love to connect with more people for the NaNo lead up and beyond too! 😀
Ugh school has started and I’m having a hard time adjusting (cue intense bouts of anxiety gah). It’s so new and different and somehow isolating and THERE ARE SO MANY HURDLES. WHY.
In the hopes of getting my spirits up and getting myself together (which I think will happen anyway once we all get used to the hum-drum of new-school-life) I’d been watching vids and reading stuff about coming back to myself and all sorts of sappy stuff like that. AND I stumbled across this BRILLIANT TED talk by the woman who wrote Eat, Pray Love (watched movie, didn’t read book…what blasphemy) and she talks about how if ever you feel lost or just frazzled or feel like GAH THIS IS SO HARD find something you love more than yourself and go back to it. Writing, obviously, was her thing. And I guess it’s mine too.
So these days (ehem, today) I’ve been focusing on making time for writing. AND IT’S WORKED. I totally have a new project that sorta is based on an old project but I’m SO happy with the result. To be honest though, you don’t have much time for it. Writing (again) seemed more like a weekend treat (which says more about my life than I’d hoped).
*reads questions* *thinks of perfect gif response to certain question*
Ok, now I have to do it this month. I have no choice.
Hmm, how do I fit in writing time…
I guess the answer is I don’t? I dunno, if I really feel like procrastinating and have nothing urgently due, I’ll write, but otherwise my time is taken up by reading/blogging (and assignments…so many assignments).
Wow – these seemingly innocuous questions really delved into the dark past of my secondary protagonist . . .
And NaNoWriMo – it’s so strange to think that my WIP is actually my NaNo fail from last year . . . it wasn’t supposed to turn into an epic beast. I honestly have no idea what I’ll do for NaNo myself (I don’t usually have a clue, lol). I always have ideas, but they’re butterfly shadow fragment things.
I’m honestly having more trouble balancing work with writing than I ever did with school! I guess school made me frustrated and angsty enough to get the writing juices flowing, regardless of how tired I was. But work . . . now I just come home zombified after a long day and think, “Oh well, you could write, or you could just read one of your hundreds of books . . . or just sleep, yeah, sleep . . .”
Omg “butterfly shadow fragment things” is the BEST description ever. CLEARLY YOU ARE A WRITER. 😉
Thanks Cait!
And I really did love the questions 🙂
Jeepers Christmas, I just got through fixing a bunch of garbage code on my blog again so the font is all the same., but it is finally up.! I don’t do NANOWRIMO, but the questions were still wonderful. 🙂
