Greetings, writerlings! It’s time for the first Beautiful People of 2016!
Which is marvellously exciting, I know. And this month we have something special for you with a “resolutions and goals” list of questions!
Also just a quick smushy THANK YOU to everyone who’s supported this link up over the last year. You’re amazing. Sky and I care a lot about this little link up so we’re super excited that everyone loves it so much! Although I have to confess: I can’t always visit everyone’s blogs. Time, humans. I don’t have it. So if you can, help me with the comment love?! Visit a few follow linkers and leave some writerly support! HUZZAH!
[accordion_wrap][accordion id=”one” title=”CLICK TO READ WHAT BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IS ABOUT” open=”false”]If you’re new here (greetings, mortal) this is a linkup hosted by Sky @ Further Up and Further In and me! It’s aimed at writers so they can answer the questions about their characters and their books. It’s designed to help you get to know your book better! (And also give your followers a sneak peek of your works-in-progresses.)
The linkup is open all month. Just a) grab the questions, b) answer them on your own blog, c) either link to our blogs or take the official button, and d) linkup below!
You can check out the official page (FAQs and examples and archive of previous lists) if you wish [/accordion][accordion id=”two” title=”FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS” open=”false” ]What is Beautiful People? Beautiful People is for writers. Every month, we post a list of 10 questions for you to answer about your characters (or your novels). It’s designed to help you get to know your characters – their quirks, their personality, their flaws, and who they are.
Can I join Beautiful People anytime? Absolutely. It’s designed so you can jump in whenever new questions are posted. They’ll be posted at the beginning of the month, but you can join in at aaaany time.
Can I submit questions to Beautiful People? Yes! In fact, we encourage it. If you’d like to submit questions, you have two choices. Either leave a comment on Paper Fury or Further Up and Further In, or send us emails. Whichever way you choose, we’ll attempt to use your questions.

GAAAH THAT ARROW IS SO GORGEOUS. Pardon me. My biggest writing goal is also focusing on editing–YAY for doing everything the same as you, except Thomas is getting a name change so *shrug*–and I was wondering if #rewriteathon is still going? If it is, I might jump in next week after my exams. My beta situation? I AM BEING COERCED BY DRAGONS TO ALLOW A CERTAIN FURIOUS PERSON TO BETA MY MSS. 😛
IT IS RIGHT?! I LOVE FREE ARROWS. The internet actually offers some great free graphics at time and i want to scream with joy. :’) Ahem. BUT ANYWAY. OH YES. Jump in on our #rewriteathon. I don’t actually think it has an end date?! I think Emily is only like 1/3 through her manuscript and let’s not talk about how pathetic I am about this. *ahem* JOIN US. CRACK THE WHIP, ALYSSA. GET US MOVING.
I am so excited to start fresh in this new year with the Beautiful People questions! I will try to be better about blog hopping and commenting. The one time I did put forth a big effort, only one person from the link-up, other than you, commented back, so I might just do three a week, first come, first serve. Ha! Happy Writing New Year. 🙂
It is hard with linkups that last a month, right? Because it’s hard to remember to go back and read older posts. SO I DO UNDERSTAND. Gah, and I feel sooo bad for not getting to everybody, but I’m literally drowning right now trying to keep up with comments and things and not ignore anyone. *collapses*
Thanks so so much for being so nice and wonderful about it!! 😀
Ooh, I think it’s time for me to start doing these again…I kept wanting to do them last year (I still have a half-completed draft from last September’s one), but I kept running out of time.
They are fun, though. So I’ll definitely make an effort to keep joining in.
And my biggest writing goal for this year is to simply write more. I really want to get a first draft done this year.
YAY! YAY! DO IT! I can’t wait to read yours, Cassie! 😀 I want to write more this year for sure too *nods* especially considering how the first 6 months of last year I basically did zlich. OOOPS.
OH THESE ARE AWESOME QUESTIONS. I’m currently about a quarter of the way through WANDERLAND (kill meeeeeee) and rewriting is a big focus for me this year too. I’m trying to decide whether it will be easier to write a first draft or a rewrite when university starts, because I’ll do the harder one in February…hard to tell.
ANYWAY. I will link up with this next week sometime 🙂
IT IS HARD TO TELL. I feel like rewrites are harder because more pressure…but at the same time at least you mostly have everything to work with right?! First drafts require more ooomph. < -- That is a grand description. IT IS. YOU KNOW IT.
I love the idea of this – I have become really lazy with my writing in the last few months – uni has kinda put a downer on writing because I was doing and learning so much my head is all over the place – I really got to get back to writing.
But my w.i.p is giving me trouble (not sure if it’s going to work out) so I don’t want to write it – you get me?
Anyway, fab idea.
Thanks for the post.
I was pretty lazy about my writing in 2015, actually. AGH. I mean, it seems like I did a lot?! BUT I REALLY DIDN’T. For someone who wants to be a full-time writer I can’t slack of like this. hehe. oh oh I hear ya with the WIP trouble. I have a difficult beast on me right now. *panics* *bats it off with a broom*
Ooh, I hadn’t been planning on participating this time around, but this one looks really good and I really want to do it, so I’ll see what I can do. 🙂 This year is definitely going to be an editing year for me. I have about 9,812 unedited manuscripts on my hard drive, and I would really like to get those all edited eventually. So I think, aside from November, I won’t do too much drafting, and I’ll direct most of my focus on editing so I get stuff done. I’ve been averaging fully editing one book a year, but now that I”m writing full time, I think that number should definitely be at three or more. *nods* //internal screaming// I’m also going to be focusing on the blogosphere more and following more blogs and answering comments more frequently and maybe, //maybe// posting a little more often, but we’ll see. So yeah, just, basically, this year I plan to be super duper busy with all things writing and reading related.
And, my sister just helped me buy a MacBook Air, so now I have a faster computer that doesn’t freeze up and make simple, 15 minute tasks take an hour (haha, you may think I”m exaggerating, but I’m really not). So I’m hoping I can definitely be more efficient this year, and thus more productive with the time I save. 🙂
I REALLY need to just focus on editing…like for the whole year. *melts* But I have this new book that is practically burning me inside out so I want to work on it after I finish editing my current book. AND THEN I’LL FOCUS ON EDITING, I SWEAR. Oooh, I can’t wait to read more posts from you. ;D You are such an amazing blogger.
AHHHH YAY FOR MACBOOKS!! I mean, I have a pro so *preens* clearly another reason I’m more of a fit ruler of the world than you. Ahem. But my sister just got an Air and she’s basically in love with the thing.
Focusing on getting done with the entire rewrite of my NaNoWriMo novel. I can already tell the second draft is going to be a huge challenge.
Ooh, that does sound intense and big. I hope it works well for you!! *arms you with chocolate for this endeavour*
My biggest writing goal is to get something ready to submit for publishing somewhere.
The linkup looks great; can’t wait to answer all the questions!
ZOMG THAT IS AN EXCELLENT GOAL! I AM ROOTING FOR YOU!!
I have a lot in the works on the blog now, but as soon as that whirlwind is over, I’ll try and see if I can do this one! I’ll bookmark it. Also tweet me next week or so to yell at me that I have to do this. You’re soon-to-be ruler of the world, so as your loyal servant, I will do as you command. *bows*
I WILL!! I mean, If I remember. Do you know how horrible I am at remembering to do my own link ups?!?!? I’m hopeless.😂
I was gonna doing editing this year, but last year I lost way over half of my WIP, so there goes that…. But now I don’t have to edit (yay!!), and I can work on my sci-fi novel!! XD
Omg you LOST IT?!?!?! Gah, that’s terrible, Alyssa I CRY FOR YOU. 😭 😭 But good luck for your sci-fi anyway (and I hope this one doesn’t run away on you!!)
I want to finish the first draft of my fantasy story AND edit it. That and enter more contests, maybe find a beta partner…the list goes on.
It is a good list. *nods* I have so many edits I want to do and what do I do about that wish? EXACTLY NOTHING. *collapses*
Ooh, looks like fun. I’ll be linking up tomorrow, probably.
My biggest goal this year is the release of the second volume of my Rizkaland Legends. This is the book I’ve been working on for ten years. It will be awesome. I can’t wait.
(Of course, first I have to finish the final draft … but that’s my January goal, so …)
Yayy!! CAKE ALL ROUND! (I am all for preliminary celebrations *nods sagely*)
Has it really been only just over a year? It feels like Beautiful People has been around much longer. 😀 *dances* Gonna work on this today, as I have time for a big post, and totally forgot what I was actually going to write about. (And, uhh, am too lazy to put thought into the posts I want to write about…)
Oh, sorry. XD It has been going longer than a year! I just meant first BP of 2016 is all. 😛 But yayyy I can’t wait for your post!! 😀
Oh, bother. I wish I knew about this ahead of time since I already posted my writing/bookish goals for the year. Ah, well. It’s a super good idea. 😀
Also, as much as the character posts of “Beautiful People” are fun and good, I LOVEEE these types of questions where they’re aimed more towards the writer. So I hope you keep doing some like this. 😀
Agh, I know! I posted most of mine already too before we thought up this but IMMA DO IT AGAIN since the questions are more detailed than what I already posted. hehe. OH OH THANK YOU THOUGH. And same! I enjoy these types of questions a lot too. ;D
I don’t write much, but have been wanting to get into it more. I might start doing this link up because it is such a wonderful way to delve into characters and writing more. I’m not sure what/ how much I want to write this year… I just know I want to write SOMETHING. Thanks, Cait! 🙂
Yayy!! I Can’t wait to read your post, Aubrey! And I totally know the feel of wanting to just write SOMETHING. You got this. I believe in you.
eeek I HAVE to join this!! I did not know that this linkup existed, let alone that you created it! Also this is 100000000% perfect for me, since I have decided to put my writing pants on and attempt to write a book. My biggest goal for the year (other than physically writing the book) is to try and make my story an actual book…. usually when I write I tend to rush things and dont actually create chapters, then give up… so I want to stop that.
YAYYYYY I’M GLAD YOU LIKE THE SOUND OF IT, MAYA! *flails wildly* It’s a once a month thing, so I’m a bit slack with the advertising. ;D I should also work on that this year, hmm.. Ahem. But yay! Finishing things is uber important and I think it really helps with writerly self-esteem? So that’s encouraging too. XD
Ooh, this looks like fun! I don’t often do these because I’m weird about talking about my stories, but I might do this one. 😀
Oooh, yayy!! *waits eagerly to read yours*
I can’t wait to do this! I am definitely going to join in on this monthly starting this month. Because one of my resolutions is to start writing regularly, this will be a PERFECT start!
I can’t wait to link up to this and answer the questions.
ZOMG YAY. That is a wonderful resolution! *nods sagely*
How did I miss this post!? (Actually — it’s because I’m currently making my way through a binge rewatch of Psych, but whatever.) Basically my focus for this is to WRITE something instead of editing, editing, editing… although I’ll probably end up doing heaps of that too. But gah. I’m not going to put pressure on myself. 🙂 This linkup looks AWESOME. I feel like I haven’t done a Beautiful People post for FOREVER, so if I have time, I’ll most definitely join in 🙂
It hasn’t been up for too long so YOU ARE NOT TOO LATe, CALM YOURSELF. 😂 Also, rewatching Psych?! That is a glorious life decision and I highly approve. I WANNA REWATCH PSYCH NOW. *eats a pineapple instead*
My biggest goal would be to write one book a month. It’s an INSANE goal, but I’m quite insane, so it might work.
YOU GOT THIS!! INSANITY AMONG WRITERS IS ONLY A GOOD THING.
Well I’m actually rewriting a first draft that I didn’t finish (I know I know, it sounds like a really bad decision BUT I didn’t do enough research the first time around so it’s horribly unrealistic!). I guess my biggest goal is just to finish a book. I don’t care if it’s Vivid or any one of the other random unfinished projects lying around (or something completely new & awesome). I just want to finish something. I’m hoping that the second half of the year will be all about editing because that means I’ve done something right and finished a first draft!
ANYWAY, I will probably be doing this linkup soon (as in weeks later ;)..Just procrastinating because these are some HARD QUESTIONS Cait! And I am trying to avoid the future..
I do hope you reach your goal and finish something this year. Because I won’t lie: IT IS THE BEST FEELING OF EVER. XD And I think it’s a really big step in writing growth?! So yes. I AM ROOTING FOR YOU. ;D
Can’t wait to do this one! I love this linkup.
CAN’T WAIT TO READ YOURS, SKYE! 😀
I AM ACTUALLY ON TOP OF IT THIS TIME AND DID A POST! 😀 YAYYYY. *feels epic* …Ahem. >.>
Anyways I love this episode of BP and it’s awesome and the questions are glorious. Thanks!
Also I hope you will do it yourself because I loooove seeing your BPs, Cait! ^_^
YAYY!! I am reading yours directly! And hopefully I will link up…before like 2 days before the month ends?!? 😂 I’m hopeless.
This is utterly perfect timing! Just this week, I mapped out my 2016 writing goals, and was thinking of sharing them on my blog. Now I have a legitimate excuse to blabber about this to people. XD Not to mention I’ve been missing BP, after skipping the last three. (I know, I know. I COULD have linked up despite not Nanoing, but for some reason I didn’t.) *runs off to draft post*
Ooh, yay! I can’t wait for your post. ;D Oh and pfft, don’t worry about skipping them.😂 I SOMETIMES SKIP (AND FORGET) THEM AND I HOST THE THING.
BP’s back!! I don’t know if I’ll be doing it this time, although I love those questions. Even as I was reading them my mind kept turning back to assess myself introspectively as a writer. O_O It’s great to connect with other writer-bloggers too. I’ll read their posts anyway. =D
THEN IT CALLS TO YOU, ASHANA. IT ASKS YOU TO POST ABOUT IT. XD hehe just kidding. 😛 I totally understand! And it is really fun to see everyone lay out their plans for the year, writerly wise. I’ve been loving blog-hopping for this one!
Me too. c:
This is super amazing project and hopefully I will be able to participate next time. 🙂 Well, my writing goals are to finally finish this fantasy novel I’ve been working on for about two years. Yeah, that was some dark times when I abandoned my children aka characters and let them rot in the file on my computer… while I was happily reading some awesome books. How cruel of m! Fun fact, at the end of 2015 I got a very nasty review of my short story from my classmate – I don’t like him – where he practically said the only good thing about the short story was grammar. Ouch. So that motivated me to writing so I guess I should thank him 😀
The other thing I want to start this year is english blog, which I’m most excited about, but honestly… I’m kind of scared of grammar because I’m not expert although I’ve been studying english as a foreign language for 14 years. I guess those are my two main writerly goals for this year. 🙂
I get distracted from my writing and end up just reading endlessly too. xD TOTALLY RELATE. ;D Omg but that’s awful about that nasty review…I’ve had people outright tell me they hate my work and it’s just…it’s wrong and it’s never helpful. Must ignore the haters. But seriously your English is AMAZING and don’t worry about grammar…I mean, my only language is English and I still am horrific at grammar at times. 😛
I too will be wandering through Editing Purgatory this year. I’ll wave at you from time to time.
I loved doing these questions! At first I thought I would be repeating a lot of what I wrote in my yearly summary but it turns out you actually made me think ^ ^ I enjoyed this very much 🙂
I’m a little late to the game but I’m excited to be participating this year!
yeah!!!! HAPPY DANCE!!! I’m in! I’ll be here about 2 min and I already LOOOOOOVE beautiful people!!! Cait, I always being a fan of your blog and BP is the cherry! thanks for visiting my blog. That was a very nice welcoming to beautiful people 🙂
btw I just read your resolutions for this year and I’m looking forward to all the new graphic design because I love your graphics! 🙂
Omg this is SO NICE to hear. :’) I’M REALLY GLAD, DANIELA! *flails wildly*
