Greetings to the pineapplish writers of the universe!
It is your favourite time of the month again — I KNOW. Beautiful People! After our last batch of themed questions (Resolutions in January and Valentine’s Day couples in February) we’re just having a good ol’ traditional version this March — 10 deliciously varied questions designed to help you get to know your characters better!
To all those who are gearing up to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo in April…we definitely want to hear about your upcoming projects!
[accordion_wrap][accordion id=”one” title=”CLICK TO READ WHAT BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IS ABOUT” open=”false”]If you’re new here (greetings, mortal) this is a linkup hosted by Sky @ Further Up and Further In and me! It’s aimed at writers so they can answer the questions about their characters and their books. It’s designed to help you get to know your book better! (And also give your followers a sneak peek of your works-in-progresses.)
The linkup is open all month. Just a) grab the questions, b) answer them on your own blog, c) either link to our blogs or take the official button, and d) linkup below!
You can check out the official page (FAQs and examples and archive of previous lists) if you wish [/accordion][accordion id=”two” title=”FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS” open=”false” ]What is Beautiful People? Beautiful People is for writers. Every month, we post a list of 10 questions for you to answer about your characters (or your novels). It’s designed to help you get to know your characters – their quirks, their personality, their flaws, and who they are.
Can I join Beautiful People anytime? Absolutely. It’s designed so you can jump in whenever new questions are posted. They’ll be posted at the beginning of the month, but you can join in at aaaany time.
Can I submit questions to Beautiful People? Yes! In fact, we encourage it. If you’d like to submit questions, you have two choices. Either leave a comment on Paper Fury or Further Up and Further In, or send us emails. Whichever way you choose, we’ll attempt to use your questions.
When is it? The meme is live around the 5th of every month! You can join in at any time during the month, just add your post-url to the linky. And don’t forget we’d love you to share the comment-love and visit some fellow linkers.[/accordion]
Don’t forget to grab the button and/or link to this page on your blog! So anyone can join in!
- What first inspired this character? Is there a person/actor you based them off?
- Describe their daily routine.
- If they joined your local high school, what clique would they fit into?
- Write a list of things they merely tolerate. Ex: certain people, foods, circumstances in their lives…
- How do they react in awkward silences?
- Can they swim? If so, how did they learn?
- What is one major event that helped shape who they are?
- What things do they value most in life?
- Do they believe in giving other people second chances? Do they have any trust issues?
- Your character is having a rough day…what things do they do to make them happy again? Is there anyone they talk/interact with to get in a better mood?
I did NaNoWriMo for the first time last year, and I can’t wait for Camp Nano, where I’m guaranteed to meet more people! Squee!
BEST OF LUCK FOR CAMP NANO!! *Flails for you* I haven’t ever joined in, but I do so love the November version. 😛
I definitely haven’t been stalking your blog for the last couple of days waiting for this to go live. Absolutely not!
AHHH THAT IS SO NICE TO HEAR THO. :’) We were a bit late this time (my fault…I overbooked my blog *facepalm*😂)
Yay! Beautiful People! Now I will definitely write a second post in March (every month, I seem to be posting less and less. It’s a problem. A time problem, but still a problem.)
My mind would not gel with my high fantasy story. Do not ask me why. It. Just. Wouldn’t. Uh. Does anyone else ever get that? Where they spend forever planning something and then their brain’s just like “uh, no.”
I started planning a slightly crazy urban fantasy set in an alternate dimension where one event changed everything. Oh. And it’s a Robin Hood retelling too. 🙂 I’m going to try and do it during Camp NaNo (*prays that this is during the exam period…or Easter*).
Awk, it is a problem. I LIKE READING YOUR POSTS. Is university swallowing your mind and soul? *pets shoulder* *sends you cake*
HAHAHAHAAHA. Yes. The brain is a nasty piece of work, I tell you. Or when you get all geared up to actually write a book and the brain is like “Um, not that one anymore”. *throws tantrum*
ROBIN HOOD RETELLING.😍
Oh hopefully I’ll remember to participate this month haha. I’m not sure if I’m going to participate in Camp Nano since I have exams at the end of March/beginning of April 🙁
Ooh, good luck to your exams!! *sends you chocolate for your brain* I’m undecided about camp too, EXCEPT I HAVE NO GOOD REASON LIKE YOU. Just indecision.😂
Well, I’ve been developing a writing portfolio for a thing at school, and writing a short story about mermaids who stop exisiting if they don’t believe they’re real. (they can’t have an identity crisis, pretty much). Also editing (but it’s all essays, which are fun to write, but boring to fix. Still, I love doing style things, so that’s good. I *might* do Beautiful people this month, but homework and exams and major projects mean I would maybe rather concentrate on easier blogging things and work. Or I’m just making excuse; who knows? YOur questions are as fabulous as always though 🙂
Mermaids with identity crisis?! I LOVE THAT. I mean, I feel really bad for the mermaids…😂 but you’re so creative! I do understand though! Homework and exams and things do like to gobble our brains. *gives you chocolate anyway*
Oh my, this round of questions really is rather random! I loved doing this month’s questions — I only just realised how much FASTER I get ideas out on Tumblr as opposed to my blog. I predict I shall end up doing this for all future BPs 😀
Also: I am suffering through edits too. *sighs* But wait, have you not finished Dead Boy edits? (And if you are editing something else … would you be up for another round for #rewriteathon?)
Well we usually do one themed month and then the next month is just a different assortment of questions. 🎉 YAY FOR UNPREDICTABILITY! Ahem.
And yessss, edits for Dead Boy are finished but I do have many SECRET THINGS to edit as well. *cackles evilly* Ahem. I’m going to draft a book in April, though, I think. Are you doing Camp NaNo? I kind of think I will…but unofficially. Because I’m not much of a social writer, so the whole “cabin” thing scares me. 😂
I haven’t even considered half of these things about my characters, but I suppose that’s always the case with these thingys.
I’m editing at the moment and crying because, well…YOU KNOW WHY I’M CRYING. DON’T YOU, CAIT? Anyway, back to writing – I’m drowning in edits, talking to my cat about character flaws and coming up with new book/story ideas. Nothing else, really.
Loved this post though and can’t wait for next months one!
My post is scheduled for Saturday, yay! 😀
EEEEP. And it was marvellously splendid. <3 I always love it when you post about your writing. :')
Aahw 😀 That makes me so happy!
Well, yay! I think these are the best questions yet. 😀
OMG THAT IS SO ENCOURAGING. THANK YOU. <3
Yay! I’ve been eagerly awaiting this month’s Beautiful People . . . will get on it as soon as I can!
*happy flailing dance* I’m so glad!! 😀
YAY! These are perfect! I’ve been procrastinating writing a blog post talking about my WIP, and my outlining process. LUCKILY, I’ll be answering these and linking up soon.
THANK YOU FOR BEING SO AWESOME.
THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME.😂 I can’t wait to read your post!!
Ooh, these are all such good questions. *ponders them* But I may not get a chance to do them this month because I will be up to random, unspecified shenanigans. And I also have all my blog posts scheduled out for this month, and the rest of next month, and I only have a little bit of wiggle room. *hangs head* But I will see about squeezing in Beautiful People next month, because I really do like answering the questions!
Oooh, “random, unspecified shenanigans” sounds mildly exciting and dangerous. But dude: you have the WHOLE month scheduled?!!? *bows to you* I’m happy if I get a post scheduled a week in advance. 😂
*squeals and flails in pure delight* I love these questions SO MUCH!!! It’s funny because just when I thought I had the perfect character to answer these questions for, I immediately started to reconsider, because, you know what if I wanted to keep my amazingly casual, slightly infuriating, devilishly snarky, demon slaying elf a secret!?!?! Like what if I don’t want everyone to know just how awesome he is yet!?! But then I realized what a foolish penguin I am to keep such an amazing character to myself. >.,,<
[There is something wrong with the comment box? It cut off my comment and posted a double?!?!!}
I had SOO MUCH FUN doing the Valentine’s edition as well. It was the first time I talked about the besties-turned-enemies MCs on my blog EVER and a lot of my friends got suuper excited and it was just like a HUGE emotional booster because I’d been having a really really, like seriously DARK AND SCARY time in the writing trenches.
I am currently procrastinating on the editing front. I know they’re there and I know what needs to be done. But I refuse to look at them. Instead. my solution to the looming edits was running to the library like the fiend I am and hauling back BOOOKS! Because, um books are life and I want to just binge read until I can’t see straight anymore. >,<
AGh, sorry about the comment box. I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT’S DOING. *glares at it* It’s been doing a few weird things lately…but thanks for commenting twice even though it’s being a pain for you!! *gives you cake*
Ahem. SO OMG. I’m really glad you liked the Valentine’s edition!! 🎉 And that is so amazing that you got a lot of encouragement out of it. <3 I think writers need emotional encouragement quite regularly. WE DO A TOUGH JOB! (Also procrastinating on editing? WE ARE TWINS IN THAT.😂 I almost always procrastinate edits. hehe.)
This one looks fun,I’m going to do my zombie.
I officially cannot wait to meet your zombie.😂
I DID IT. (Beautiful People. YOUR WELCOME.) I don’t know if I’ll join the Camp NaNoWriMo website, but I do want to do it at least privately. I’ll probably be working on some sort of fairy tale story.
If you’ve done the website, please tell me if it’s worthwhile!
ME TOO!! I mean, I want to do an April book, but I think I’ll do it privately too.😂 I haven’t ever joined up with a Camp NaNo? But I do the November one with the website. I don’t get the “Cabins” for the Camp NaNos. *trembles in fear*
Great questions! I put my answers on Google+, so that’s the link I put in. But I couldn’t get a link specifically to the post, just to my page . . . sorry ’bout that 🙂

The link above is not valid . . . Here’s the real one: https://plus.google.com/100943515487953220312/posts/NzkQES8bbbW
Thanks for joining in, Rosie!! 😀
I finished my first draft for my first novel and jumped into brainstorming the next one. It’s political fantasy/alternative history/clockpunk. And I have two many characters and one of them has a name so far. Not the MC, her half-brother. And that’s only a first name.
DUDE THAT IS THE BEST COMBINATION OF EVER. I LOVE IT. And I hear you with the name issues. Agh. I’ve spent like MONTHS trying to think up a name for the characters of a book I’m plotting. Whyyyy are names so hard?!
I don’t know. I do occasionally get these characters that own there name perfectly and I wouldn’t even think of changing it, but usually…
Ooh, these are good questions! I will probably participate, if I don’t forget. I really want to do camp nano…but SCHOOL. All my final tests are that month. -_-
AGH TO SCHOOL. It does like to eat all the goodness of free time, doesn’t it? *heavy sigh* I do kind of plan to write a book in April too, but I’m not sure I’ll sign up for NaNo. 😛 The cabins scare me.😂
Hi Cait!
I finally did “Beautiful People” after such a long time of wanting to do it! I think it is pretty good for the first time doing it. Here is the link is you want to see it and check it out!
https://tumblingthroughbooks.wordpress.com/2016/03/08/beautiful-people-march-edition/
I will be doing ‘Beautiful People” again next month too because it was so much fun! 😀
OH, yayyyy Maddie!! *squeaks* I shall go read it ASAP and I’m so glad you’re enjoying the questions. 🙂
I’m not even sure I’ll have TIME to do Beautiful People this month but I will try my hardest!! And I love these questions. Perfect to inflict on my Grizzly characters 🙂
*cries because university and adulthood is eating you up*😭😭 I WILL LOOK FORWARD TO IT IF YOU DO GET A CHANCE THO.
Oh, gosh this’ll be fun. XD I have a steampunk ship’s captain I want to do this with. And the college clique thing… Will be hilarious. XP
Eeep, I can’t wait!! 🎉
*fist pump* Finally did one of these.
AND IT WAS GLORIOUS TO READ. 🎉 🎉
I’m going to edit my 2015 NaNoWriMo project in April, for Camp NaNo, and I AM SCARED because I never edited something and I don’t know where to start, and what if I read and it’s SO bad I laugh and cry at the same time? Wow, sorry ahah, trying to be a writer is hard. I really love this Beautiful People meme though, and once I get my characters and story a bit more together, I might want to join!
And I apologize if I seem like a stalker, but I just saw a comment above where you’re talking about cabins. I joined one with two blogger friends, and I’m scared too, haha, but I think it might be a great way to motivate each other, too! But damn, there’s a CABIN GOAL, AND your PERSONAL GOAL, and all of those HUGE numbers are making me dizzy already, haha.
Agh, editing IS Hard. And tbh, you’ll probably hate it when you read it through? BUT THAT’S OKAY BECAUSE EDITING = MAKING IT BETTER! No one can ever say the writer life is easy though, omg. OUR STRUGGLES. *collapses dramatically*
And pfft, you’re not a stalker! Comments are about discussion, right?! 😛 But omg there’s a cabin goal too?! :O That would be intensely freaky. I think I might “unofficially” join in??
After promising myself to use this BP on “The Butler Did It,” I promptly started a new book about a runaway teenage model in space, who gets a job in the kitchen of a greasy spoon diner . . . which has absolutely nothing to do with TBDI . . . But there’s lots of fried chicken.
Oh – and my BP is the first “Official” post on my new blog/website platform (I ended up moving over to WordPress because of all the problems I was having with Blogger/Google!). So far, it seems to be working a lot better. 🙂 And now I feel important, because I have a domain name, lol.
There is probably no downside to fried chicken in books though. *nods* AHH YAY FOR A NEW SITE AND A DOMAIN NAME! I’m off to visit! 😀
Fried chicken in books can be perfect, and you can consume as much as you want without feeling too full. So yeah, no downsides there.
Also, I seem to have this strange fixation with space restaurants??? My last two projects were set in A. The Future, and B. Starred food service/hospitality industry workers. I guess I’m finally writing what I know, sort of.
Thanks for visiting! And for hosting BP!
