It’s time for a smushy Valentine’s Day themed BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!
You knew this was coming, right?! February is notorious for romance and we writers do know how to aggressively ship a couple.
Don’t forget to grab the button and/or link to this page on your blog! So everyone can find where
Q U E S T I O N S
1. How long have they been a couple?
2. How did they first meet?
3. What were their first thoughts of each other? (Love at first sight or “you’re freakishly annoying”?)
4. What do they do that most annoys each other?
5. Are their personalities opposite or similar?
6. How would their lives be different without each other?
7. Are they ever embarrassed of each other?
8. Does anyone disapprove of their relationship?
9. Do they see their relationship as long-term/leading to marriage?
10. If they could plan the “perfect outing” together, where would they go?
THESE ARE BRILLIANT QUESTIONS. I’m totally doing this about Molly and Winnie. They are adorable. Actually they’re only the second couple I’ve ever written…
I think I may schedule this for Valentine’s Day 😀
That is an EXCELLENT idea. I write couples all the time. They just…um…usually aren't together (or *whispers* alive) by the end of the book. USUALLY. I have like one happy ending. Wait. Nope. Forget that. I do not.
It doesn’t matter how I PLAN the romance, it has to evolve naturally or it just doesn’t happen. Usually my romantic relationships change as I write. Of course, once I get a hold on something solid, I must resist the temptation to tease it every other scene… Usually I write fluffy. I’m not sure if mine can be counted as triangle or not (the character isn’t choosing between them because he doesn’t even like one of them) but if it is, it’s two girls and one guy.
I just had to giggle at your love-triangle description. Awkward triangle. xD Fluffy is fun! I think my latest WIP is the most fluffiest thing I've ever written. Usually everyone is dying all over the place and true love is just tragic. -_-
They sink. They sink painfully, horribly, and slowly. I think I am a little bit mean to my couples. I mean… I can’t make everything easy for them, you know! I think one of my weak spots in writing might be romance, so hopefully this will help me flesh out some things about them.
I don't make ANYTHING easy on mine. *hi fives* We are the evil authors with OTPs that sink. I'm 100% sure my romances almost always suck, hehe.
Yay, romances! 😀
HOW FUN!
I am so doing this! Once for the couple in my NaNo novel and again for the characters in my new short story!XD
I usually write couples with the “perfect” relationship. It might start out rocky (and crash and burn later on) and they fight, but, in the end (yes, even after one of them is forced to fake their death and then has the other wiped from their memory), they have the type of relationship where they’ll always forgive the other and everyone knows they’ll end up getting married.
They’re also rather fluffy. But none of that, “I know I’m only going to the grocery store for 5 minutes, but I’ll miss you so much!” crap. It’s more like, “I trust you to come running when I wake up screaming in the middle of the night.” and “You calm me when I’m having an anxiety attack,” and “The way you hold that gun to my head is totally not threatening at all. You’re not fooling anyone. You may not remember me, but you love me.” Yeah….my character’s relationships are messed upXD And I lied. Totally not fluffy. Sometimes they are, but most of the time they’re notXD
Awwww, your romances sound super sweet. 😉 Mine either start with someone dead or end with someone dead. I\’d like to name a happy couple I have…BUT I CANT.
Oh, Cait. Why do you do this to me. There is so little romance in my novel. Even the romance is unromantic.
I don’t write many couples in my works, and the ones that exist NEVER make it out happily. Seriously, even if I include my short stories. Even if I include my PLANNED but unwritten stories.
I don’t normally write love triangles, though. If something is to separate my couple, they will do it themselves. Yes. I am not very nice.
I have same problem. 🙁 Seriously, I can\’t even tell you a story I\’ve written where the romance works. They either start dead or END UP dead. It\’s just deadness everywhere.
Oooh this seems like a good one! Valentine’s Day has always been ‘meh’ to me, but this BP edition is a great idea. I write my romances… well hopefully romantic! Otherwise tragic and/or complicated. I never take the easy road with my fictional couples!
I was going to post something else today but maybe I’ll just post this. I totally forgot to do the last BP. I meant to. Oh well!
Okay, did it. It was harder than I expected O_O But it made me learn a lot more about my characters! Thanks indeed, Cait and Sky.
I don\’t really see the point of Valentine\’s Day mostly hehe. BUT I LIKE TALKING ABOUT SHIPPING MY BOOK COUPLES. I like shipping. *nods* Unfortunately my ships are all like the Titanic.
Hehe…I don’t quite write books with romance, so I suppose I shall skip this one. 🙂
Fair enough! My romances always sink but…I shall amuse myself by doing this. 😉
My couples sail happily off into the sunset…except for like, one occasion. Or two. I don’t think I could write a good love triangle with a girl and two guys…I’d feel so bad for the other guy! But in one of my stories, I sort of have a love triangle with one guy and two girls. But i’ve already decided which one he ends up with…
My romance is usually fluffy-ish, with maybe some tragic elements thrown in that work out by the end of the story. Cause I’m a happy-endings type of gal. 😀
I\’ve only ever written one love-triangle and it had 2 girls and 1 guy and I really do like it…I just don\’t know if I\’ll keep it because love-triangles have such cliche stigma around them these days. xD Tragedy FTW I say. xD
My couples are the type that meet a sad, tragic demise. Oh, they sink XD *evil laughter* Though I am an aggressive shipper who has more of an armada than ships, I can’t write romance <.<
Fantastic questions!
Titanic couples? THAT IS HOW I WRITE THEM TOO.
My characters usually ride happily into the sunset at the end of the story, swords at their sides, ready to face adventures together. Unless of course, they’re in Bookania, where there hasn’t been a sunset in three hundred years, thanks to … reasons.
Actually, most of my favorite couples in my writing are some level of arranged marriages. I’m not sure you’d call what I write fluff, but it’s not tragic or steamy, there usually isn’t a triangle involved, and arranged marriages are the opposite of forbidden. Usually there’s quite a bit of swords-at-throats involved.
Mmm …. now to decided which characters I want to do. Since I’m promoting Bookania this month, that’s a given, but I have a LOT of couples in Bookania, and its home to two of my top four favorites. I’ll probably go with Robin and Eric … but Samson and Madeleine are always an option as well … maybe I should fill it out for both …
WHAT. NO SUNSET?! It\’s like no Christmas in Narnia all over again. *gasps and dies* Swords-at-throats is quite awesome, that\’s definitely the kind I like to read. 😉 Mine are all tragic, and there\’s no happily ever afters…nope. Not anywhere.
YAS. ALLLL THE SHIPPING. I have so many couples I don’t even know who to do xD Choicesssss. I think I’ll do a Pariah couple.
*fangirl squeals*
I do love my ships. I’ve had several that go up in flames (not literally…often) but mostly I let them have some happiness, albeit bittersweet happiness, after many trials and such. Sugary-sweet couple happiness is not my thing. IF THEY WANT TO BE TOGETHER THEY WILL HAVE TO FIGHT FOR IT MWHAHAHA.
yes yes I want to hear more about Pariah, I approve of this life decision.
Ohhhhhhhhhh I soooo want to do this for the lady couple in my story-that-I’ve-never-tried-to-write-yet (that I talked about in my other Beautiful People post) buuuut… gah. I haven’t actually written any scenes with them yet, so Idk if I’ll do this.
Excellent questions, though! 🙂
BUT YOU SHOULD. Because you never talk about your writing and I\’M SO CURIOUS. heh. I\’m kidding. xD You can keep your writing all hidden up and just torture me with curiosity, *nods* I will survive. But probably not.
EEEEEEP! ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE LINKUP! YAY! YAY! YAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!
Anywho these are awesome questions! Totally gonna be interviewing my one character couple from my current WIP. Heehee yay! 🙂
CAN\’T WAIT TO READ IT!
I was like, “OOH ANOTHER ONE” and now it’s like, “Crap.” because I don’t write romances. And then I realized that one of the things my CP complained about was the lack of romance, which means I SHOULD DO IT to figure out what I want but I DON’T WANT TO because it’s not perfect but I WILL because why. So… Fine. I’ll do it. Just grudgingly. *sigh* THANKS A LOT CAIT. IT’S TOO LATE IN MY DAY FOR SO MANY EMOTIONS.
I always get told off about my romances too. I CAN\’T HELP IT. They end up dead..or worse, they start dead like my Paper Cut book. Everything is doomed from the start. It\’s delicious. x)
Ooh, these are great questions! I should actually take the time to do this 🙂 It’ll be tough since I haven’t gotten to the point where these two characters realize they’re the eventual love interest, but a good exercise to do in advance of that development.
It can be like the prelude to when you get to write it, eh?!!
Well, *cough cough* this is going to be an awkward one, seeing as love interests in my stories have this weird tendency to end up dead…
So, yeah, I guess you could say that there are some who don’t approve.
Actually, yeah. Now that I think about it…they all have ended up dead. All of them. Usually in some horrible way that leaves the other scarred for life…only once have I ever planned a happy-ish ending for them.
I’m horrible.
SO DO MINE. 0.0 I would love to tell you about a happy romance I wrote but…I don\’t even have one. My start off dead sometimes though (like the Paper Cut book), like seriously, there is no hope.
I do like some forbidden romance, because then they can be rebellious!!!! *mwuhahahahaaa!!!!* But I do like to include some fluff in there you know, bit of a kiss here and there ^_^
FLUFF IS FUN. Although I more like the hate-love ones where they fight all the time and are obviously perfect for each other…like These Broken Stars. XD
I am so tempted to do this!!
I HOPE TEMPTATION WINS AND YOU DO IT.
Yeah, temptation has won…I think I will work on this tonight and schedule it to post on Saturday. 🙂 Such things are so hard to resist.
YAY! I look forward to reading it! 😉
I love romances! Especially sweet ones, where the characters grow to love each other and live happily ever after. The ones I write are like that, with a tiny bit of steaminess. Call me a hopeless romantic.
Thanks for this post. This is the first time I will be participating in the ‘Beautiful People,’ um, blog hop? Anyways, it looked like fun, so I thought I’d join in. By the way, your blog button doesn’t work on my blogger site. the picture won’t show up.
YAY I did it! This one was my absolute favorite so far and I am just flailing about the house now because I am overcome by the cuteness of my dear little darlings.
I LOVED THIS ONE SO SO SO MUCH.
SO MUCH
I just came across your site and I love it! This is such a great idea.
I write children’s fiction where the ‘romance’ is of the ‘eww cooties’ variety. But in the YA I’ve written I like to experiment with the dangerous guy trope–sexy, brooding, kind of threatening. It can easily get cliche but when it works it’s a lot of fun.
Generally though, I tend to focus on other things than romance. It’s always a subplot.
I know I’m a whole age too late and it serves me right that the link-up is closed… but yet I’m commenting, because I finally managed to write about to of my characters… not a high quality post, but at least I did it 😀
I think the romances I’ve written so far are very different. There’s the one, where two best friends turn into a love couple, there’s a very tragic love triangle (and I know what most people think about love triangles, but I’m trying to do it the right way)
But what I rather don’t write is a story, where the Romance is all of the story. Some of my stories contain love couples, but they’re not the main issue. That would only make the whole story too boring for me… I think I might write some fluffy lovestory one day, but I don’t feel ready to write a pure lovestory without making it too… ah, I don’t know how to explain. Too lovestory.
