Welcome to the May Edition of Beautiful People!
HELLO! How are you, writerlings?! Did you survive Camp NaNoWriMo? (I ended up not joining in because…oh, who knows? My book wasn’t quite ready to be written.) SO! Now is the glorious time to tell us all about your Camp projects and introduce us to your novels. We don’t have a theme this month, but feel free to add snippets of your latest WIP.
Also if you have requests for themes or question-suggestions: LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS.
We have 45 fantastic linkers last month and we appreciate everyone’s support so much!

Q U E S T I O N S
1. Do they get nightmares? If so, why or what of?
2. What is their biggest guilty pleasure/secret shame?
3. Are they easily persuaded or do they need more proof?
4. Do they suffer from any phobias? Does it affect their life in a big way?
5. What do they consider their “Achilles heel”?
6. How do they handle a crisis?
7. Do they have a temper?
8. What are their core values and/or religious beliefs?
9. What things do they value most in life?
10. What is one major event that helped shape who they are?
I DID win camp NaNoWriMo, though I will admit that I kind of cheated. I kept having to start again, and then I had tonnes of revision to do, so in the end I cut my goal by…oh…10,000 words… *Hides head in shame* And the worst part is that the quarter of first draft I have is awful, I’ll have to do it again 🙁
At the moment, I’ve ditched all projects except for my rewrite due to time constraints and, also, the fact that I couldn’t settle on one – I kept starting new ones so my memory stick was getting full of half-plans/half-first chapters.
Ooh! These questions are great! I might have to do these, even though I don’t have a blog to post them on 😉
Hey, but it doesn’t matter if it’s awful so long as it’s WRITTEN, right?!! YAY FOR COMPLETEING THOUGH. Pfft, rules are for mere mortals anyway. Duuuude, you need a blot. That is all I can say. A MAGNANIOMOUS BLOG.
AWESOME QUESTIONS. I might not participate this month but next month, definitely (I hope by then I’ll have finished this draft of The Daisy List!). I’m also thinking of my NaNo novel for November. It’s the stage where I’m just letting it incubate for a while, haha (and stealing things from my friends, of course).
Ohh, you ARE organised thinking up NANo already! ^-^ I have like #5309935 books to write and do you think I feel like writing any of them? NOPE.
I completely bailed on Camp NaNoWriMo this time. (I know, I know, how terrible of me.) I’ve been focusing on revising another MS and even though I sooo wanted to participate, I figured it would just be too hard. SO. I want to finish this draft/rewrite by November (for NaNo), which sounds like a lot of time, but this novel is particularly stubborn. xD
Stubborn novels? I HEAR YA. I really want to get something written, but I’ve been beating out stubborn ideas and plots and GAH. This year has just been interesting. XD Something stubborn is in the air…
ha ha ha ha did I win CampNaNoWriMo….that’d be a no. I only wanted to write a short story, and I literalyl could not drag it out any longer. I only wanted to aim for 5000 words, but it only let me aim for 10000 at the minimum. Poooohhhh!!!! Anyhoo, next item on agenda is….SACs AND EXAMS!!! *Runs*
ERMGAERD. EXAMS. BIG, SCARYE EXAMS.
Yay! I must find a time around my exams to do this. I love the Beautiful People segment.
I do CampWriMo in July, as I’ve finished uni by then. And, actually, I’m really excited to get started on my next project. It’s a Steampunk (or ‘Puzzlepunk’ as I want to coin, because the characters have to solve puzzles to progress…haven’t quite worked out how I’m writing that yet…) novel inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
Omg, that’s sooo fabulous to hear. YAY, ALEX!! I have no reason to skip doing them and yet I always seem to forget. *facepalm* DUUUDE. Puzzlepunk?! I love that. I just am going to go around saying that right now because puzzlepunk.
I know, I’d say it too. It’s just so mellifluous. Puzzlepunk.
I realised that I AM notified when you reply to me – my email has been sending you to the junk box all this time 😮
I didn’t do Camp NaNo (I’ve actually never done any sort NaNo…YET). These look like great questions! I’m looking forward to using them. 😀
I’m currently “masterminding” book 2 in a fantasy series. It’s not really plotting because I’m figuring out big worldbuilding/backstory-type things — thus, the name masterminding. XD Hopefully I’ll soon be finished with that so I can get to outlining.
Just to confirm, these questions are for any WIP? No theme?
ohhh that sounds like fun!! I find plotting a mixture between insanely fun and insanely frustrating. But it’s sO awesome when it all comes together.
Yep! Any WIP! Any character! ANYTHING YOU WANT.
I ALWAYS SEEM TO FORGET TO LEAVE A BLOG POST FOR THIS. I’ve been meaning to participate, well, since the last time I participated, but I’m so absentminded when planning blog schedules. But I have blocked out a post for this next month and I shall join. Just watch me. I SHALL.
These questions are FUN. Question 5 may be my favourite, since I specifically plan characters’ fatal flaws. One of the problems of studying under a lit teacher who loves Greek tragedies.
I didn’t participate in Camp NaNo, but I am wrapping up this rewrite — 1 last chapter by Friday — and after that it’ll be beta rounds during my exams. In the meantime, I’ll be planning out a shiny new idea I’ve been DYING to write. It’s so stressful when you like your planned idea more than your current idea :/
WELL. ME TOO. I should’ve remembered to do it last month and, um, I didn’t. WHAT EVEN HAPPENED LAST MONTH? I DO NOT KNOW. I love flaws too. *dances in evil glee* I like crippling flaws. I LIKE DESTRUCTION. Okay, yeah, I’m gonna calm down and go sit in my corner.
I somehow managed to win Camp NaNo, despite the craziness of the end of the school year. My next project will be outlining a kind of realistic sort of fantasy horror-type novel (no idea which genre it fits into). It’s about this group that was founded to stop murders before they happen.
YAYYAYA!!! *sprinkles confetti in your hair* Omg, did you just say fantasy horror? BECAUSE THAT SOUNDS AMAZING AND I WANT IT.
I am so, oh so sad, to say that I didn’t win this time because I was lazy and totally forgot to update my word count. So… still mad over that BUT I’m definitely going to participate in Beautiful writers because of course we writers need all the inspiration we can get. Am I right? 🙂
AGHHH. I AM SAD FOR YOU. But at the same time, you still tried, right?!! I need inspiration, too, hehe. Is cake inspiring? *stuffs face*
I didn’t do Camp NaNo this year. D: I decided to focus on reading rather than writing this summer. Maybe next year, though? I’m still waiting for the year that I FINALLY win… I participated twice and lost both times. Heh. But right now my brain is exploding with new ideas and I don’t know if I can get anything down! Maybe I’ll just write a short story or two for now. >_<
I soooo want to hear about your ideas though. xD And focusing on reading is totally legit. *nods* That’s what I’ve been doing, like, um…all of this year. SIGH. I really need to get my fingers into gear and write something. XD
Oooooohh I know exactly who I’m going to do this month – it’s gonna be Alicia from my April siblings post!
I LOVE these questions. So much. I’m so excited! 🙂
They are quite intense, right?! I’M EXCITED.
I did Camp NaNo for the first two weeks and got a little over 20k words. Then I panicked when my story started going in a completely different direction than I wanted it to and I couldn’t get it back on track. I am so ashamed to admit that I gave up… I don’t feel too bad, though. I had a lot on my plate in general in April, and I’ve done (and won) previous NaNos. But in terms of my next writerly goals, I’m thinking about using the summer to edit and completely overhaul a book I’ve previously written. We shall see…
You still deserve, like, copious amounts of cake for a) starting a book, and b) writing anyway, and c) surviving your very busy April. SO CAKE ALL ROUND.
I did to Camp NaNo and I won with my goal of 30K. ^ ^ I’m not doing a Camp NaNo character for this BP, but it is one I feel like has been neglected lol. Now she’ll get some attention. Thank you for doing the link-up!

YAY CONGRATS ON WINNING!! *sprinkles confetti in your hair*
Some of these questions were hard!! I did do Camp NaNoWriMo, and won, but I kinda feel like I cheated — I was mostly editing and writing snippets for an existing WIP, and totally counted a couple blog posts towards my word count. Ooooooops.
YAY!!! HARD QUESTIONS ARE GOOD. hehe. Pfft, it’s not cheating if you wrote, right/??!
Am still in the outlining part. Having trouble putting the ideas in my head down on paper. If I get everything organized some what I want to try November NaNoWriMo.
I’m going to do the november one tooooo! And possibly July? Or is it June. Hmm.
Oh my, I missed Camp NaNo again! Aggh…!!
ME TOO. April snuck up on me.
This is fun! I will be sure to continue participating.
I didn’t even TRY Camp NaNo, too busy. However, I am back at the usual work of typing out words. I plan on finishing my first draft, then editing. (Of course, I’m a chronic editor, so I often edit while writing, which is a BAD habit).
I used to be that kind of editor! Now I write super uber messy first drafts and do all my edits later. XD IT’s freeing! But, ultimately, I think if editing-as-you-write really works for you, then do it. 😉
I attempted Camp NaNoWriMo, and ended with 5000 words (my goal was 10000), so I’M HAPPY!
I also downloaded the Scrivener trial and so far I regret nothing, it is so awesome.
I had also planned to do last months Beautiful People but it was hard because the main character doesn’t really know her siblings…
But I’ve looked at this month’s questions, and I can do them! So I shall.
