Hold onto your shadowy socks today, my friends, because I’m about to introduce you to the characters of Evelyn Skye’s latest book: Circle of Shadows!
I’m stoked to be part of the blog tour because I adored her debut duology, The Crown’s Game, which was Russian enchanters battling it out (and making Christmas trees out of cake so like, we stan using your powers for both dessert and death). Her new series is called Circle of Shadows and stars a mischief making duo, raised as magical warriors to protect the Empress, in an Asian-inspired fantasy world!
Coming up…meet the author, the book, the characters aaaand then I’ll leave you with a pretty epic giveaway at the end. SO READY YOURSELVES.
✧ OTHER STOPS ON THE TOUR ✧
Sora can move as silently as a ghost and hurl throwing stars with lethal accuracy. Her gemina, Daemon, can win any physical fight blindfolded and with an arm tied behind his back. They are apprentice warriors of the Society of Taigas—marked by the gods to be trained in magic and the fighting arts to protect the kingdom of Kichona.
As their graduation approaches, Sora and Daemon look forward to proving themselves worthy of belonging to the elite group—but in a kingdom free of violence since the Blood Rift Rebellion many years ago, it’s been difficult to make their mark. So when Sora and Daemon encounter a strange camp of mysterious soldiers while on a standard scouting mission, they decide the only thing to do to help their kingdom is to infiltrate the group.Taking this risk will change Sora’s life forever—and lead her on a mission of deception that may fool everyone she’s ever loved.
Love, spies, and adventure abound as Sora and Daemon unravel a complex web of magic and secrets that might tear them—and the entire kingdom—apart.
Evelyn has a B.A. in Russian literature & history from Stanford University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. She was once offered a job by the C.I.A., she not-so-secretly wishes she was on “So You Think You Can Dance,” and if you challenge her to a pizza-eating contest, she guarantees she will win.

She’s our heroine and in school to be one of the Empresses magical warriors, the Taiga. (Aka, with a few spells, she can climb up the sides of walls, see in the dark, and never miss her mark.) At 18, she’s in Level 12 and so so close to graduating and getting her first mission. But the empire is pretty chill at the moment (THE EMPRESS IS GOOD AT HER JOB?? AMAZING) and Sora gets her lolz from being a prankster.
She’s the kid who goes home with the report card that says: “Very clever!! But also lazy and never does what she’s told!!”
I’m absolutely calling out that she’s a Gryffindor!
He’s nearly 18 and has the kind of backstory no one believes…yes, he was raised by wolves. And even though he was blessed by the goddess to be a Taiga warrior, he actually kind of sucks at it. Swinging his weapon of choice (bo) he is A+ at. But the spellwork…not so much. Which sucks because his best-friend and gemina is Sora, aka the school’s BEST AT MAGIC. This is only 100% depressing to him. (He also has BLUE HAIR!!!)
➸ Also what’s a Gemina? They’re bonded warriors with an empathy link so they can feel each other’s emotions and they work seamlessly as a warrior team. You’re totally forbidden to fall for your gemina though…which um, yeah, about that…
She’s one of Sora’s closest friends at school (her real name is unknown since all the students take on new names after they enrol). Basically she is part genius and part flirt and she is 100% confident in her skin. When she’s not kissing boys, she’s creating potions and being badass with weapons and training with her own gemina (Broomstick).
She’s also super petite and pretty and will do ANYTHING for her friends.
I’d also call her a flirty frothy Slytherin in the best way.
He’s Fairy’s gemina and also very much into EXPLODING ALL THE THINGS. When he came to school, with the mark of the goddess on him, he was this wretched scrawny little kid (hence his chosen name) you could probably use as a toothpick. But hai puberty — and now he’s this massive muscled giant. But fits perfectly into the trope of: “could kill you!! but will probably hug you instead!!”
His nickname is genuinely “the kingdom’s most lethal teddy bear.”
Dude is the Hufflest of Hufflepuffs.
