I think February ate me.
Honestly it’s been a completely slack month here on the blog, although I HAVE GOOD REASONS and they involve disappearing to write two novels because apparently the moons aligned and all the inspiration was there and I just wENT FOR IT. But more on that later! For now I have to stare moodily at February’s fleeting footsteps and be monstrously offended because I never can get enough done in 28 days???? Why can’t it have the full 30??? I’ve been robbed??? #Rude
But despite the absences, I’M BACK NOW. I know you missed me. (Hush now, don’t lie. I know you did. The sun barely rises when I’m not around.) And I have monstrous happy things to shout about because guess whaaaaaaat. You know my #1 most highly anticipated read for this year, A Conjuring Of Light? Well. IT WAS FREAKING PERFECT. I’ve read so many good books lately I don’t even know what to do with myself!!
Also someone ban me from Netgalley and Edelweiss because my requesting sprees are getting ridiculous.
Save me from myself.
- RED GLOVE (#2): This is a HUGE favourite of mine and I found it for $4 at an op-shop. Yaaas to my Holly Black collection!★★★★★
- BONE GAP: Okay, this shouldn’t be in this pile because it’s a review-copy (thanks Allen & Unwin!) SO I DON’T KNOW. SOMEONE HAS MESSED UP HERE. Anyway, I first read this in 2015 and am. so. in. love. I’m rereading it right now!! ★★★★★
- ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND: 10 cents at a library sale. Most people I know hate it buuuuuut…TEN CENTS.
- CARAVAL: So pretty! So hyped! My dust jacket has the golden rose underneath (though I secretly wanted the clock but shhh I’ll not whine).
- A CONJURING OF LIGHT (#3): AFDJKSALD SO FREAKING PERFECT I THINK I DIED 9 TIMES JUST WITH ADORATION FOR EVERY PAGE.★★★★★
- THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE: I adore Russian folklore so this should be good! And look at that cover, mate. Wow.
- CARVE THE MARK: Only the most controversial book…ever? I’m keen to make my own opinion though.
(Thanks to Hardie Grant, Text, Allen & Unwin, and Bloomsbury!)
(All these are unsolicited so eek…hopefully I get to them before I’m 93.)
- HOTAKA: Doesn’t really seem like my thing?? But we’ll have a go. It’s set during the Japanese 2011 tsunami.
- THE SECRET SCIENCE OF MAGIC: I loooove this #LoveOzYA author already so this should be good. And obviously science is witchcraft because I kinda failed it in school.
- NIGHT SWIMMING: So Steph Bowe is like one of my author heroes so I’M SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS.
- THE EDGE OF EVERYTHING: Basically summarised as a: hot mess with a bucket load of paranormal cliches. [insert awkward pause here] ★★☆☆☆
- DEFY THE STARS: Not a fan of the Firebird trilogy buuuut, maybe I’ll do better with this one!
- SPELLSLINGER: This looks really fun!! And that ARC cover is totally beautiful.
- NOWHERE NEAR YOU (#2): Unfortunately I didn’t like book #1??? So fingers crossed I like this one. Or INSERT NERVOUS SMILE HERE.
- CLOSE ENOUGH TO TOUCH: This is chicklit so not sure how it’s in my life but…we’ll see?
- WONDERFUL FEELS LIKE THIS: This is about an oddball girl who finds jazz and honestly that’s terrifying because I’m allergic to jazz BUT YET WE’LL TRY IT!
- THE THINGS WE PROMISE: This is set in the 1990s so basically it’s HISTORICAL FICTION HAHAHAHHA. (Wait. I am in ’94. Help me.) And it’s about a girl going to a formal. Righto, luv.
- WE ARE STILL TORNADOES: Basically my aesthetic when I’m as the library borrowing far too many books. Never mind me. I HAVE NO CHILL. (Also hopefully this is good?!)
- FROSTBLOOD: Everyone says this is quite fun so hopefully I have quite fun.
- GIRL DETACHED: This is about a girl with a stutter!! I really want to read more about disabilities so yay!
- THIS IS OUR STORY: I admit…I mainly wanted to read this one because it looks like The Raven King cover.
- THE SWAN RIDERS (#2): I’m literally only reading this because I liked the villain in the first book. #priorities
- LUCKY FEW: About homeschoolers!! And Maraia told me to read it and she is fabulous so obviously I’m reading it.
- THE SPIRIT REBELLION (#2): The first book was about a sassy magical thief so I’m totally up for the sequel! Hopefully this is more stabby. Shh yes I did just say that. And dude, I MUST be serious about this series because I had to reserve this book and, because it’s adult, the library charged me $2! I am indignant! Libraries should be free! This better be worth it!
(all covers link to goodreads)
(I’m particularly excited about RED SISTER because the author asked me personally if I wanted an ARC!! Excuse me while I flail a minute.)

@paperfury
I also just hit 25K so HELLO MY NAME IS EXCITE.
I’m trying something a little different this year…with some book covers you can hover over to get my mini-opinion!
(You can still click on the covers to read my full reviews, or hover over it. Because it’s fun.)
T O P P O S T S:
I N T R I G U I N G S E A R C H E S:
(These are things people have searched to find my blog and I’m helpfully answering them.)
- “paper fury potato” — You got me. I’ve got no denial. I am, in fact, a root vegetable.
- “can reading too much make you sick” — Only sick of annoying people in reality to be honest.
- “he screamed, begged and bled to his death… but no one came forward to help him! #shame” — Wow. So the hashtag is my favourite part and honestly??? This sounds like something I would write SO YOU’RE CLEARLY AT THE RIGHT BLOG.
- “paperfury cliches” — The only cliche around here is how you can 5000% expect me to mention cake.
- “what arr the effect of too much reading” — Sometimes reading too many pirate books makes you end up being a pirate. See like so? ARRRR ME HEARTIES. It’s horrid. 2/10 do not read so much.
- “paper fury grisha” — see when I’m not a potato, I also have a secondary career as a Grisha. Which means I am a magic bean and go around doing magic things. I’m only, like, a potato on Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 3pm to 7pm, and on every second Monday.
- “list 10 problem of an adult?” — DUDE. I have so many problems with being an adult. One of the worst is that you’re supposed to do things unsupervised, like drive a car or pay rent or use a knife to cut down your enemies. Like when did I sign up for this??? I need supervision to know if I’m doing it right???
- “the act of a person sleeping on books becoz of reading too much is” — I’ll finish that for you: “because reading too much is filling your house with books so you literally have nowhere to walk because there are books everywhere but you’ve never been so happy in all your days and sure you can sleep on the wet cold grass outside because your adopted book children must have your bed and that’s ok because you’d die for your darlings”. YEAH??? WE WERE BOTH THINKING THE SAME THING RIGHT??
- “bad things about books” — sometimes when you carry 12 at a time, one of them leaps off to die like Mufusa and then you have to feel bad for days and play sad music and stand in their rain because YOU’RE A MONSTER to let that happen.
- “how to make a tbr” — Do not. Thank me later.
- “paperfury sister personality” — Friendly. Kind. Will stab if you get too close.
- “fan girls know” — oh they know alright. They know everything.
- “do reading books have negative impact” — They do. Especially if you throw hardcovers at people’s heads. Impact = very negative. Do not recommend unless sorely provoked.
- “magnus bane style” — Just bathe in glitter.
- “so i’ll stack my fears like books and devour them one by one” — May I have that on a tee-shirt??? It seems like my aesthetic.
- “where are the craeture what am i tryng to say” — Something I ask myself frequently.
GOOD NEWS! Use this link here to get free shipping on EVERYTHING and 20% off totes, pouches, and phone cases!
I also have new designs because I love you. Click on the photos to go to their pages…and you can get all these designs on a range of items, like mugs, travel mugs, notebooks, pillows, tattooed on your left ankle like a picture of an eye that will make Count Olaf proud. *
* Just kidding for that last one. What even would make Olaf proud??
A collection of bookish news I find in my obsessive stalking lowkey travels across the internet:
- Marissa Meyer’s new novel has a title: Renegades! Totally unique and I will definitely not forget it in 2 seconds. It’s about super heroes/villains!
- Veronica Roth wrote an explanation to the accusations of racism in Carve The Mark. Most are unhappy with her lack of actual apology.
- Maggie Stiefvater 5000% confirms that the new Ronan series she’s NOW OFFICIALLY WORKING ON (!!!) will not feature Ronan/Adam breaking up over angst. Omg thank you.
- I saw this MOST EPIC photo of two unlikely dudes reading Cinder on a train and it just proves YA is for everyone of ever.
- VE Schwab confirms she is working on aaaall the things and we have MUCH MORE BOOKS to look forward to from her even though the Shades of London series is over.
- Angie Thomas does an Epic Reads youtube interview that is so awesome…and guess what?!? She homeschooled!
- Tricia Levenseller, author of Daughter of the Pirate King, does a fabulous interview about badass women pirates.
- A Darker Shade of Magic is officially becoming a FILM. Which I am…terrified over. Pls don’t ruin my favourite series omg.
- Three Dark Crowns is also becoming a movie!
- Oh and Shatter Me is coming to TV with Tahereh Mafi as producer.
- Here’s some behind-the-scenes of the Avengers Infinity War for no reason because it’s not bookish news but Baby Spidey is kind of adorable and also Peter Quill is in this movie??!?
- The Everything Everything movie has a trailer! And it has ENTIRELY SPOILED THE ENTIRE MOVE IN A 2 MINUTE TRAILER. Legit: no need to see the rest of the film now. (Whattttttt were they thinking.)
- Jandy Nelson is writing the screenplay for her novel, The Sky Is Everywhere.
- Hugh Jackman is going to be in the adaption of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian. Dude, I didn’t even know this was in the works.
- The Book Avid did a post on how to recognise ableism in books.
- Aimee @ To The Barricade had me guest post on her blog! LOOK I’M EVERYWHERE!!
- Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction has a handy guide for all the book blogger acronyms. So now you can find out what ARC, RTC, TBR, MC and OTP stand for!
- Laura @ Boats Against The Current tells you how to make more time to read.
- Buzzfeed Books shared my photo!! I’m waaaaay at the end with the Snicket photo. #fame
- Epic Reads did a bookstagram shout out/round up and GUESS WHO GOT FEATURED??!?! MY LIFE HAS BEEN MADE.
- So we must talk about A CONJURING OF PERFECT LIGHT and how I am an absolutely mess. Because now what do I obsess over???? I’m lost???? Is it too early to re-read??? I devoured 500-pages in one afternoon and then the last 100 the next day. And though it arrived ON RELEASE DAY (!!!) it actually came with the spine totally damaged. If that’s not a metaphor, what is.
- Luckily Book Depository is sending me a new one. What will I do with this one though??? I DON’T KNOW. I might give it away??? Or collect enough to build a throne????
- I also wrote those two books as I mentioned. Several times. I’M GETTING ANNOYING AREN’T I?!? But honestly I’ve never written so much so fast (200K in 8 days…although there was a 2 day break between drafts) and I’m so 5000% in love with what I wrote and when does that ever happen for a first draft??? It’s ridiculous. But you can read snippets here! And I’ll just be a small potato of happy.
- I thought I’d spend March editing a NaNoWriMo project. But also. No.
- I might just be a jellyfish and then write something else in April?
- Because editing = A SMALL STROLL THROUGH HELL ON A UNICYCLE WITH NO BREAKS.
- But also I gotta edit sometime??
- But yet…#no.
- Also I’m mentally-plotting this new idea I’ve just combusted with about what-if-every-library-you-walked-into-was-the-same-massive-library. Magical libraries, dude. Magical libraries with every book in the world and every person in the world having access. I’m currently thinking an asexual boy, a ghost, a several very dangerous explosions, and magical midnight snacks of pumpkin pie.
- I’m also plotting the 5th book in an epic fantasy adult series. Why, Cait. Why. The pinterest board is here and I’m proud. But wHY cAIT wHY. No one writes long fantasy series anymore. Stahp.
- Peoples, I just can’t stop plotting books. They’re everywhere. EVERYWHERE. LIKE GNATS ATTACKING ME FROM ALL ANGLES. I swear I have 4.5 of them on the go. I need to stop.
- But in other news my February blog page stats were AMAZING. The actual best ever and I wasn’t even blogging. So in other news I’m quitting blogging and becoming famous while not doing anything.
- HAHHAHAHA JUST KIDDING.
- (But really…)
- I ate chocolate brownie this month. Lots of it. What else do you eat whilst writing.
- I reached 25K on instagram!! And I’m a rep for Illumicrate!! I’M SO EXCITED. I’m famouser.
- Now I have been left alone in the house for the weekend...so I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself. Obviously not bake another brownie and eat it and take 394839 million photos and put my audiobooks on LOUDLY and teach my dog to make proper sandwiches while I wear alien socks and fill your lives with the nonsense that is my blog. No, no, of course not.
- I love being an introvert. #IntroversionOnLevelMaxiumum Also I love nesting in my bookshelf. Because what is a bookshelf for if not to climb on occasion and perch on top? GOOD TIMES.
- Also just a squishy THANK YOU to everyone who leaves such nice and encouraging comments for me. It is the biggest encouragement and I appreciate it endlessly. Just so you know!!!
OKAY THIS MONTH WAS AMAZE FOR YOU CAIT! I spent most of February drowning in my pile of homework (curse you year 11) and trying frantically to manage my blogging, reading, socializing and sport along with school work. Fun times.
IT WAS PRETTY INTENSE. I HAD A LOT OF FUN.😍😂 And ack, sadness for homework eating your life. I hope you manage to squeeze in enough fun stuff too! *sends you encouraging cake*
I think you are going to love Secret Science of Magic! I read it while I was interning at Hardie Grant Egmont last year – and so good! I am so excited for everyone to read it now. I also really enjoyed Frostblood – fantasy wasn’t really my thing last year, but this one was soo good. I also just finished Defy the Stars and I was surprised on how much I did enjoy reading it.
Hope you have a good reading and blogging month in March! I’ve been blogging so much this year already – like 4 posts a week, and my stats will never be as good as yours hahah. Oh well.
Thanks so much for this post and hope March is good to you.
Ooooh, you interned at Hardie Grant?! OKAY THAT’S JUST SO AWESOME. And yesss, I’m sure I’ll adore it because I loved both her other books, so what could possibly go wrong. 😍 And I’ve heard Frostblood is quite fun, so I’m looking forward to that! I’ve been having a few dud fantasy reads lately, so I need something fun!
Duuuude, your blogging game is AMAZING. I should learn fro you. I think I did like 8 posts all up in February. Which is an all time low for me. 😂
A MAGICAL LIBRARY AND ALL LIBRARIES LOOK THE SAME? OMG SIGN ME UP. My library is decent enough, don’t get me wrong, but they don’t get half as many YA novels as I would like so your book idea sounds FANTASTIC.
Also how in the ever living universe do you make your book covers FLIP LIKE THAT? I am jealous of your skills!!!!
Frostblood was fantastic, so read that next. I can’t vote in the poll for some reason???? So that’s my vote! I liked it. *Beams*
SEE IT WOULD BE SO HANDY. There’d be no “oh my country doesn’t stock that title” nonsense that our libraries insist on having BECAUSE WE’D ALL JUST GO TO THE SAME LIBRARY AND IT WOULD BE PERFECT. And erm, yes, I’m basically writing my own dream library but shhh that’s allowed.😂😂
It’s just a widget for the flipping-covers-thingie. I’m not talented with blogging don’t worry haha.
Hey! That’s a great month. I am so waiting for ACOL. I am glad you loved it (is loved an understatement?). Congratulations on the novels! And cheers to more writing in March. Too bad your book was elivered in a bad condition from BD. Isn’t that the worst? It kills a part of me to see a torn book. I hope the new one gets to you soon. And hey! More stats with lesser posts? Woohoo. You should make a fun post on that one. And btw, this month’s search terms are so hilarious. Don’t you agrree? Cheers to MArch
I basically will just say LOVE!! LOVE!! in all caps with all the exclamation points for a while.😂 I’m a little teeny tiny bit obsessed as is probably veeery hard to notice.😂😂 And omg it IS the worst!! I mean, at least they’re replacing it, but I’ve been waiting for this book for so long and I had to pay a lot for it, haha, so I really wanted it to arrive nicely.
The search terms are always cracking me up.😂 Half the time I have no idea how they lead to my blog though!! Do I talk about potatoes that much?!
Thanks for the link to the Carve the Mark interview. I have an ARC and I plan to read it at some point. I also want to see for myself. I have seen too many times when an author was actually making a statement against something and readers mistake it as something else. I was so excited to read Goodbye Days (I am reading it right now), but it is almost like he was trying too hard or something and I am not enjoying it all that much. The Hate U Give was fabulous!
I still have to read A Gathering Of Shadows. It is waiting for me on my Kindle. And that is great news about the Ronan book. Congratulations on finishing TWO BOOKS and your IG double win! I hope you are having a wonderful March so far. 🙂
I don’t even know WHAT to think about the Carve the Mark debacle! I do think both sides are saying very valid things and obviously it’s up to readers to interpret. But sometimes I don’t know if readers perhaps jump to the conclusion that if an author writes something bad, then the AUTHOR is condoning the bad thing? Which I don’t think is the case hardly ever. 🙈🙊 I definitely want to read for myself, although I most likely won’t talk about it to much, no matter what I think of it, because readers are kinda getting harassed for reading it…
The Hate U Give was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! I read an eARC but I need a physical copy probably. AFjdskalfd so many feels and so much wonderfulness.
Thank yoooou. <3 It was a successful February even if I didn't get much blogging done. 😂
My February was weird… Between studying and panicking over exams, that is. Currently I am studying about the Black Death since I have my social studies exam on Monday. I thought this topic was cool, but it isn’t anymore when you have to study for a test lol. I always love your recaps! So did I leave my history notebook to read this? Of course lol😂 congrats on 25K! Aaaand, the real question- how many book ideas do you have CAIT??😂😂😂😱
Ack, nothing is as interesting to study about when you have to be tested on it.🙈🙊 SAD FACT OF LIFE. But good luck with the exams!!
And omg. You don’t even want to know. Have you seen my pinterest? I have like DOUBLE the ideas, but they just don’t all have boards yet. 😂 I’m hopeless.
I don’t have any book in particular I’m looking forward to, but basically anything other than what school is making me read (Dracula) would be better. I can appreciate it’s a classic and all that, but it’s a far cry from the YA genre I love. Too many descriptions in my opinion! XD
February has been…short. March snuck up on me! Before I know it I’ll be doing my HSC year *shudder*. Onto happier thoughts, I love your new designs! I might have to snag one of your beautiful totes…
Have a wonderful March! <3
Oh I haven’t read Dracula…but I can imagine it would be a bit dry getting through? I mean compared to YA? I never do well with classics.😂 I hope you get to read a book you want to soon!!
February is ALWAYS FAR TOO SHORT. *stamps foot* It’s just downright rude. And omggg HSC. Good luck. My sister was flailing/freaking over that last year and it looked seriously stressful. 🙈🙊
I really liked this life/book update. You are really rocking this internet and writing thing. I am also going to do you a solid and warn you against reading Alice in Zombieland. It was just terrible. Like, it wants to be a romance novel but the characters are teenagers so they have to stare deeply into one another eyes instead of having sex. Much instalove. And there are hardly any zombies.
I bought something like 30 books this week and finished The Hate U Give today. OMG, that book is worth all the hype. I also had three different twelve year olds tell me that I was mean. Apparently, being told no is cruel and unusual. Teaching game on!
I believe you about Alice in Zombieland. 😂 I reeeally didn’t like Firstlife by the author so like…I don’t even know. BUT IT WAS 10 CENTS I MEAN. At least the covers pretty.😂
Oafdksjadlfj I loved The Hate U Give so so much too!!! I technically read it in March though, so I’m saving it for next month’s wrap up to flail over. But it’s SO worth all the hype, right?!?
I LOVE that new review thing were the books spin! XD It’s so cool!
I haven’t gotten to A Conjuring of Light yet, and A Gathering of Shadows is still sat on myself, so I probably won’t for a while. I also haven’t gotten to Take the Key and Lock Her up, which is just tragic. :'(
I’m going to do Camp NaNo in April – it just so happens to coincide with the Easter holidays. XD
I’m glad you like it!! It’s fun to put together. 😜 And eeep, I hope you get a chance to devour AGOS and ACOL soon. Or, you know, have your entire feels devoured by them instead. GOOD TIMES.
oh yayyy that Camp and Easter is around the same time! The world smiles upon we writers.
I genuinely cannot believe you wrote 2 books this month! GO YOU!!! Can you give me some of your motivation please?😁 I think the most productive thing I did this month was finish a season of supernatural…I still haven’t read a darker shade of magic and your excitement for the series is making me want to read it right now! Great wrap up post,
P.S- if your baking brownies do you fancy sending me some? THANKYOU!
BUT WATCHING SUPERNATURAL IS SUPER PRODUCTIVE. BECAUSE THAT SHOW IS LIFE. Well actually it’s death.😂 But whatever. It’s still excellent. And ADSOM is just legit the best thing of ever.
And I caaaan’t. I ate all the brownies.
I think I’m actually starting to accustom to your post’s length because this post seemed WAY too short.
Wait, you are a potato too? WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME!
My February WENT too quickly. I reached 700 followers on le blog. WHICH REMINDS ME CONGRATS ON YOUR BOOKSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS! *sprinkles confetti*. But I POSTED SO LITTLE this month (like what, only 4 posts?) I started The Selection Series, read The Fever Code, A Monster Calls, And The Uglies.
I’m SO LOOKING FORWARD to reading The Legend Trilogy, ADSOM, FINALLY Crooked Kingdom and a few other books.
I thin it’s been only 2 months since I’ve eaten a scone – but congratulation on eating a BROWNIE! MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT!!!!
MAGICAL LIBRARIES.
I DID TRY TO MAKE IT SHORTER!!😂 Less rambling? I mean, I’m trying hahah.
Omggg congrats on the 700!! That’s amazing! YOU WILL BE FAMOUS IN NO TIME. Did you like a Monster Calls?! I adore that book but afjdsaklfd it broke my heart too. Crooked Kingdom is = A++ of perfection too btw.
THANK YOU, I hope to be sometime as famous as you but THAT’s ONLY IN MY DREAMS!
YAS, I loved A Monster Calls. At first, I thought it was some wishy-washy book BUT THEN OMG THE FEELS AND TEARS! I want to watch the movie but then I don’t because what if it ruins EVERYTHING?
And OMG yes, I brought Crooked Kingdom 2 days ago and I’m already loving it (I’m like only 100 pages in) But it’s SOO Good to be back with the characters. KAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
February was exam month for me BUT NOW I AM FREEEE
I might actually do Camp NaNo in April even though I’m gone for 5 days and university starts again in the last week of April. There’s also a Readathon happening that I want to participate in.
Basically I’m going to do all the things at once and hope for the best 😀
Next up I’m going to read The Hate U Give (my copy is at my desk and starting at me) and I’m super excited, because everyone has been loving it! <3
YAS THAT YOU’RE FREE!! I hope the exams went well though?!?
ooh, April will be busy for you then! I’ve never done a readathon but with my TBR the size it is I should probably consider it.😂 Do aLL THE THINGS! Fuel yourself on chocolate cake and coffee (#healthy) and you’ll be fine!!
The Hate U Give is PERFECTION.
Yep I passed them so now I’m rewarding myself!!!! 😀
I’m maybe doing 2-3 readathons a year, but I CANNOT be stopped when my fave Readathon is happening, so I’m doing all the things 😀 Yep that’s my masterplan! chocolate cake + coffee = life ♥
I’m currently reading it and OMG YEEES
AHHHH OMG CONGRATS ON 25k. YOU’RE SO FAMOUS. *throws confetti* And aren’t blog stats weird? I keep getting spikes for no reason.
Also I can’t waaaaait to read Goodbye Days and Queens of Geek and Inexplicable Logic. Tbh I’m not surprised you didn’t like We Are Okay though. Reading it, I dead-set thought, ‘yeah, this is definitely not a Cait book.’ :’) I’ve known you too long.
So FAMOUS. *flips hair* 😂 Except not really. ahem. And blog stats are so weird. Like any time I take a hiatus I do better than when I’m actually blogging. What is with people.😂
Queens of Geek is SO CUTE. And like this is me being a non-contemporary person and loving it!! And omg I’m sorry about We Are Okay. I feel bad, because I really wanted to like it because I know how much you love that author?!
Hummmm omg I LOVE your H2G2 socks!!
And congrats on 25K on IG 😀 !!
So cool about Red Sister!! Can’t wait to read your review of it!! I loved his Prince of Fools book so I’m excited for that one!
Also excited to know what you think about Mask of Shadows! It sound awesome
I loved Prince of Thorns so basically I’m aLL THE EXCITE for Prince of Fools!!🎉🎉 And thank you!!
I ate a scone maybe a month or two ago. And I am doing camp nano! I’m rereading Little Women (and talking notes) right now, so I can better plot out my epic space dragon adventure. It’s gonna be amazing!
I’M EXCITED FOR YOU ALREADY!😂 I feel like if I do write in April it might not be till the end of April if I do get my act together and start editing.🙈🙊
Reading those ridiculous search terms are my favorite, because I just want to know who these people are? Especially the “#shame” guy. xD I want to meet the person behind the Google search.
Angie Thomas was homeschooled?! This just makes her 1000 times cooler. The Hate U Give has been out for four days and my library still doesn’t have it ugh. I need to get my hands on it yesterday.
I haven’t even read Everything, Everything and the trailer seemed spoilery even to me? Like what you just crammed every plot twist into those two minutes. (But Amandla Stenberg is adorable and I love her.)
Aren’t they just the best?!? People are so weird omg. Does my blog just attract all the weirdos? I don’t even know. 😂
I KNOW RIGHT THOUGH?! ANGIE THOMAS IS LIKE SO AMAZING. I ADMIRE HER SO MUCH!! And she inspires so many people just afdksald bless the universe for her existence. I actually read The Hate U Give all on release day and I’m really proud of myself.😂 Usually I’m too scared to read hyped books.
And yES. The trailer is super spoilery for Everything Everything. And actually, I didn’t like the book and I know people with chronic illnesses who’ve said it’s not very respectful. So take that as you will. (I still will watch it because AMANDLA. She’s amazing!!)
I’m pretty sure I’m one of the last people to read V.E. Schawb’s Shades of Magic series. I’ll be adding it my TBR list. I did read and enjoy This Savage Song. Currently reading Garber’s Caraval, but I’m not enjoying it as much as I hoped. A lot of my reads lately have fallen into the “please just be over” mantra in my head. Congrats on writing all the words! Hopefully March will be as productive as February.
Mostly everyone I know have said that Caraval is disappointing. WAIL. I don’t have high expectations for it TBH but at least it’s pretty.😂 I hope you get to try ADSOM soon!
OMG IT’S BEEN TOO LONG SINCE I ATE A SCONE </3
Also I love your recap posts?! Maybe because they're only once a month so when one comes I flail wildly.
Also congrats on being more famous!! *applause* what did I tell you??
Simi
SAME. I HAVEN’T HAD ONE IN YEARS. My life is sad.
Also thank yooooou, Simi. <3 That's really encouraging!! I've been having a lot of sour people come at me so this just ajfkdsla means a lot.
I don’t know what you’re talking about, Cait, it seems you had a great month. But. Mine was pretty good. I started outlining new book of my own, so yay.
I LOVE Rachel Aaron’s Eli Monpress books. I only read the first three so far, but I think the third was my favorite. Also, apparently she has a series about shape-shifting dragons in a post-apocalyptic US? Exciting! I must read this.
I love your Instagram. So much color! so much beauty!
I did have a great month! Did I sound like I didn’t? Whoops.😳😂 I mean, I’m really behind on all the blogging things due to like vanishing for 2 weeks but HOPEFULLY I’LL CATCH UP SOON!!
Omg I really want to read a shape shifting dragon apocalypse series?! I need to search that out immediately.
HOW DID YOU GET THOSE SOCKS. I NEED YOUR SOCKS. Okay, not yours, but a pair, you know, of the same kind. HOW DID HITCHHIKERS’ SOCKS GET SOLD WITHOUT MY NOTICE.
Read Carve The Mark. I didn’t find it racist or whatever at all. It was very interesting. Not the most action-packed, but the world-building was great.
I actually got them in a book subscription box that I was asked to promote in exchange for getting the box. And 1000% worth it because ALIEN SOCKS!!😂 I love them even if I haven’t read Hitchhiker’s Guide.
Since putting up this post, I’ve had several people tell me I’m horrible for having Carve the Mark in my possession. So. It scares me a bit that there are people who stalk my blog just to rip into me.😳 I WILL read it and form my own opinions but I won’t be very public about it because honestly I’m scared.
It scares me, too, that people are blowing this WAY out of proportion. There are cultural discriminations presented, but it’s SO JUST PART OF THE STORY. I don’t for a minute believe Veronica Roth feels that way. Plus there’s at least one gay character, and the discussion over how minorities feel about other groups makes it obviously clear (come on, folks) that she’s displaying views of THE WORLD BUILDING and THE CHARACTERS. I didn’t see the “able-ism” either — she uses the fact one of the MCs has what others considered a disability to explore how that MC grows as a person. People are officially STUPID right now. They’re looking for offense where there’s none to be had — so they’ll just make something up so they can appease their cravings for it. Don’t listen to them, Cait. Form your own opinion. And those narrow-minded jerks can learn to keep their mouths shut.
It’s confusing when people think that an author writing about bad stuff = the author bad. This actually TERRIFIES me, because I write books with murder in them all the time??? I am not a murderer nor condoning of it?? I’m just telling a story. 😳 But like I don’t want to say other’s opinions are invalid or anything and I REALLY don’t want to get into trouble over twitter so for now I’m doing the incredibly brave thing and hiding. hahaaahah. *slinks into a corner*
I know the author in this case has faced extreme criticism, and I feel bad for her, because it’s totally unnecessary. I actually didn’t like most of the Divergent series (the writing just felt very underdeveloped to me, and it seemed like her ideas weren’t well thought out) – but I wanted to give her new book a chance. My biggest issue with it was the pacing and the way nothing much happened for long stretches. But that’s simply a personal reading preference. I found the world-building to be much better (in my view) than Divergent, much more intriguing, and I liked the characters a lot more in Carve The Mark, too. Again, any basis for claiming prejudice was very, very thin at best. But, I also think that you have the right not to yell your opinion all over the place if you’re uncomfortable with doing so. Unfortunately, we book bloggers live in this type of sometimes vitriolic environment. I truly hope that changes one day (soon).
I haven’t been reading at all in February but I have a very good excuse in the form of starting a new job and having to read for work.
“Maggie Stiefvater 5000% confirms that the new Ronan series she’s NOW OFFICIALLY WORKING ON (!!!) will not feature Ronan/Adam breaking up over angst. Omg thank you.”
OMG YES PLEASE NOW?!!!
Someone needs to hire us to read. IS IT REALLY THAT HARD. 😂 And yesss Ronan!! I can’t wait!! I’m so glad Maggie Stiefvater is a sensible and lovely author!!
Yeah. I did read a manuscript and a half for work this month. Still pitiful compared to my usual standards 😂😭
I’m so happy you liked A Conjuring of Light! That’s my most-anticipated book of this year, and I haven’t read it yet. I want to buy it, so I have to wait for a sale or used copies. It’s torture. Why are books expensive?
Eeep, I hope it comes on sale for you soon!! It is ridiculously expensive though. Like books in Australia are RIDICULOUS. I bought it from book depository because I didn’t want to pay $45 in Australia. *rolls eyes* But still $30 is too much.😭😭 Good thing I’m so obsessed and I don’t buy a lot of books.
last question first: I think…a few months ago? I only like to socilize with introvert peoples, and there’s this introvert family (except for the youngest daughter. she’s a crazy extrovert) and they’re always hosting tea parties for the other introvert families. and they make very good scones. #ilovethisfamily And thier oldest daughter is a very good friend of mine, very quirky, loves everything dark and stabby, and sometimes freaks me out. She’d be a total cait fan. 😛
I’ve had too many book ideas. I’m just terrible at writing them down. And I’m REALLY looking forward to reading nightfall! (keeper #6) the last book left me sooooo hanging! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! *flails* ok, ok, don’t get worked up now….try to forget it…IT’S NOT COMING OUT TILL NOVEMBER!!
Most crazily, ~Olive
That sounds like the most AMAZING family. Like full of introverts AND they give scones??? Dude. That is beyond perfect. Keep them. Plus the stabby friend of yours is obviously 500% epic. I APPROVE.😂
Congrats on your shout-out at Buzzfeed and Epic Reads, Cait! That’s awesome!
(Remember us little ones when you ascend to the Book Queen of Everything throne.)
And man, that cover of Caraval is so pretty. Why are UK covers always so much better than US covers? I should probably just move.
(I mean, the US is kinda in turmoil right now anyway. Might as well get outta dodge.)
Do you know if the US edition also has the different designs underneath the dust jacket? Because that’s the coolest thing.
Ahhh thank you!! I’m still flailing over that. Human creatures can be so nice. 😀 I’ll definitely remember to still sprinkle cake crumbs on the poor populace when I’m famous. *flips hair* 😂
It’s funny though, because I usually prefer US cover?! But this time UK 10000% won with Caraval.😍 I’ve heard that the US editions don’t have the designs though.
AGH CAIT YAY A POST. I honestly look forward to the mornings when I wake up and check my Reader and OH LOOK THERE ARE NEW POSTS *GASP* THERE’S ONE FROM CAIT YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
How fast does your library get new releases??? I swear, it’s like nine months, two weeks, and one day before my library actually has new books in stock. The “new YA books” section they have has like books that were released like two (or five or nine) months ago and I’m just like??? Where are my new books???
OMG PYNCH WILL STAY PYNCH??? THANK GOODNESS. If she broke them up, I would’ve been broken. EVERYONE WOULD BE BROKEN BECAUSE IT’S PYNCH. And NOOOOO. Why are all these books becoming movies??? There’s a REASON they are BOOKS, and NOT MOVIES. We want it to stay that way??? I mean, try all you can, but you will not replicate the amazing thing the book was. They’re gonna ruin everythiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.
Omg that library book idea sounds amazing. Honestly, Cait, you should just do NaNoWriMo (or Camp) and then write like four books in the whole month. One for each week. With cake.
Also, yes. Socks for the win. *is wearing favorite socks right now*
My February was good! I didn’t read much, which makes me sad, and I accomplished pretty much nothing writing-wise. BUT I DID GET 100 FOLLOWERS WHOOP WHOOP. *glances at Cait’s 3,000* *laughs nervously* AGH I ORDERED A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC ON WEDNESDAY (and it’s coming next Wednesday with an extra $4 with shipping and that’s with a DISCOUNT) AND I’M SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED TO READ IT AND GAAAAAAAAAH. Then I’ll just run all the way to my library to check the next books out (darn it they won’t have ACOL will they ugh) and die but that’s okay because the sequel will be in my hands. Unless it’s not as good as I’m anticipating it to be??? No. It will be good. IT WILL BE GOOD. And ooh, scones, I went to the bookstore like two weeks ago and got a blueberry scone. It was quite good. How about you and your scones, Cait?
Omgg seriously?!? *blushes* That absolutely MAKES MY DAY, thank you. <3 Honestly it's the most encouraging thing to know when people like my posts.😂
Okay the trick is: I TELL them to get the new releases.😂 They have a form for requesting books so I'm like "right I'm using it" and they actually buy a ton of the books I ask for!! I'M SO LUCKY. I can nearly forgive them for charging me for adult reserves.😂
Dude, agh, I agree. I hate adaptions mostly. They always ruin it and then I can't get those actors out of my head so it like takes over whatever I've imagined.😭
WOOOO FOR 100 FOLLOWERS!! THAT'S AMAZING THO DUDE!! Ignore me.😂 I've been blogging for nearly 6 years after all. And afjdksalfd that you're getting ADSOM. That's a perfectly good life decision and I'm so proud.
I haven't had a scone in YEARS. I'm crying.
So, I haven’t actually read the Shades of Magic series BUT I MET VICTORIA SCWAB AND MY LIFE IS COMPLETE. I adore Vicious and This Savage Song, but everyone was talking about Lilah and Rhys and I was in the corner like “Yep, cool. Those are characters…?”
BUT VICTORIA WAS SO SWEET AND INSPIRING and goodness gracious I would like to be her, thank you very much.
OMG YOU GOT TO MEET HER I’M SO JEALOUS. THAT IS LITERALLY THE BEST THING OF EVERRRRRRR. I want to be VE Schwab when I grow up too.
CAMP NANOWRIMOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! EEEEK!!!! I am SO pumped for Camp! I’m gonna be editing my November NaNo novel (assuming that I can actually finish the first draft before April first???)
Seriously, how do you even write TWO BOOKS in eight days??? Six, once you take out the small writing break in between. I feel slightly like a snail now…
February has actually been rather rude to me. I was planning on finishing my book last month, and then I caught a flu, and then I just lost ALL inspiration to write and so #fail. But March has been halfway decent so far! I’m confident that I’m going to finish everlost before April!
(Actually, I’m not at all confident, but maybe saying I am will make it real???)
Oh YAY that you’re editing too!! That’s awesome.😂 I should follow in your footsteps and stop procrastinating haha. Ahem.
DUDE, I DON’T EVEN KNOW. It’s a record. I was pretty much creatively a flattened pancake afterwards though, but it was GOOD. The novels both worked and I’m happy with them and had such a writing hangover afterwards because I missed them.😂
The flu is awful, nooo. I got sick in February too and I’m still trying to shake a cough, ugh. So obviously February needs a severe talking to about it’s manners?
Wow you did so much in February! Sounds like a great month for your writing. 🙂
It was!! I’ve never enjoyed writing a book quite as much as that one.😍
I know I’ve already flipped out over your 200k but I still can’t get over it! What even?? Isn’t it the greatest when you love what you’re writing so much that you physically CANNOT STOP? I think the last time that happened to me was NaNo 2015. Most of the time I go between “this is okay I guess” and “I want to murder this book and all it stands for.” I did manage to write 50k of my dragons in space book in February. Which isn’t quite 200k in 8 days but yay anyway?
YOUR LIBRARY CHARGED YOU TO RESERVE A BOOK??? WHAT MADNESS IS THIS? Also, hearing you gush about the Locke Lamora books makes me really want to read them but I’m worried it will be a while before I do because I still have Christmas presents to read. I just finished A Darker Shade of Magic and IT WAS AMAZING and I immediately ordered the next two online even though I am broke.
I would KILL for one massive library that exists everywhere with every book you could possibly want. This is literally my dream. And OMG your pinterest boards are so pretty! You’re planning a 5th book in a series? Where are books 1-4??
I’m so excited for camp! I already started a cabin that has like 1 other person in it lol. Currently working on my outline and for the first time ever, making a list of names for the sacrifices, I mean, lovely minor characters. I also just got a new (old, it’s actually super duper old) computer just for writing and which I have named Aiden. Which is totally appropriate 😊
Anyway, good luck with all your writing (and editing. You can’t avoid it forever)! And when you’re published and famous, I want to read all your books! So keep up the puns. The puns are the best 😂
HEEYY WAIIIIIT. DID YOU JUST SAY DRAGONS IN SPACE??! omg you are my new hero. The world needs books like that immediately. *nods* But yes! Just getting lost in your own world is AMAZING. And honestly when I finished I spent the next 3 days in SUCH a flunk because I missed writing so bad.😂
Ack, yes. My library is dumb. It always charges for adult books, but sometimes they shelve YA as adult. I think it’s crazy because it discourages bookworms from reading and that’s like…the opposite of what a library should stand for?
FJADLFASD A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC IS EVERYTHING THOUGH. I LOVE IT SO MUCH I CANNOT BREATHE.
Oh the pinterest is for all of them.😂 I actually should separate them a bit more, but #lazy.
Yaaas that you’re already preparing for NaNo! my problem is I want to wRITE this 5th book. Like I’ve written book 1 but what about 2 – 4?😂 Help me.
sHhh, I can pretend I can avoid editing forever.😂
Wow, that’s a lot of books. But with you reading superpower, I’m sure you’ll read them in no time. One of my friends highly recommended We Are Still Tornadoes to me. I’m intrigued by its all letter format. Looking forward to your thoughts about it.
This is the first time I hear about Ronan series. Happy dance. And this photo of Cinder readers just made my day.
Great post, Cait. Have a great March!
Omg honestly?! I don’t know.😂 I mean, I try to read 20 books per month and there’s WAY more than 20 books here and that’s like the story of my life…getting more books in than I actually devour haha. I’m dead.
RONNNANNNNNN. <3
CONGRATS ON ALL THE THINGS!! *cakefetti everywhere* I need to get up on the writing train with you.
*flails in confetti* THANK YOU, KIND BEAN. And yesss, board the writing train with me and let’s write ALL THE THINGS.
I need to read A Darker Shade of Magic. It’s been sitting on my shelf for months! I’ve been trying to do a thing where I don’t start a new series until I finish one I’m in the middle of (that are completed) BUT IT’S SO HARD. HALP ME PLS. I need motivation. and inspiration.
YOU DO!! IT’S THE BEST SERIES OF LIFE!! And that’s actually a really good idea to try and finish off more series than you start…I should do that.😂 Except, pfft, I have no self control so I probably won’t.😂
My February was good thanks for asking! Oh, I loved V.E. Schwabs throne of books. I definitely need one but made of Sarah J. Maas books. I didn’t do much reading I felt last month. I was in a reading slump, I felt like I hated everything I read. But I’m out of it now! I completed my second bookstagram challenge ever! I love your monthly recaps! I did see you got shouted out on Epic Reads. Congrats!!!! *shoves cake towards you* It sucks you got a damaged book. I have never received a damaged hardback. I have received plenty of paperbacks with a giant crease across the cover. THE HORROR! Your monthly stats book flip thing looks like its fixed this month. That is such a cool feature. This month I think I am going to try and edit as much as I can of my NaNoWriMo novel, I haven’t been editing because #itsboring. I then want to write the rest of it during Camp NaNo! I think I will also plan out some more stuff for my writing this month to. I also started a book club for my home school, now we can be introverted home schoolers together without leaving the confines of our home. YAY! I have been loving planning for it! I also can’t wait for Song Rising to come out. I won an ARC of Song Rising on a goodreads giveaway!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHH, now I have to wait for it to get here. Goodreads giveaways always take forever to ship though! I’ll have to take a look at some of your cool Society6 designs now! Oh, and the last time I had scones was probably last week, I make them more than a normal person probably does. Oh, well. Happy March!
VE Schwab DESERVES that throne of ACOL she made on twitter the other day.😍 She is queen for sure.
Aww, that sucks about the reading slump. *cries* I’ve been either rating books 5 stars or 1 star lately. 😂 It’s a bit wild around here ahem.
Good luck with the editing!! I am pretending I’m about to start editing too but really…no.😂 I MEAN, REALLY YES. OMG. SOMEONE FORCE ME TO SIT DOWN AND START SOMETHING. I don’t actually hate editing as much when I start…but starting is the worst. And so much doubting and second-guessing argh.
Ohh that’s so cool that you homeschool! I feel like maybe you’ve mentioned it before but I forgot and now I’ll just flail quietly because I homeschooled too.😂
I really wish I had your speed writing skills. I really really need to start working on my own book. All the other bookish/reading/writing things get in the way. Yay, I’m glad you liked Peter Darling. I loved it so very much!!
-Lauren
Peter Darling was sooo cute right?!? I’m really glad I did a random request and went after it.😍 And eeep, it’s so hard to make writing time, I TOTALLY GET THAT!! I hope you do sometime though. If the endless TBR lets you. 😉
I ALSO DISAPPEARED FOR A WHILE, I FEEL YOUR PAIN. For me, it was spending 5-6 hours a day for the past week studying for the state competition of Academic Decathlon – which was intense, but fun! I’m quite happy to be back reading everyone’s posts again now 🙂
I’m starting to save up for food, textbooks, gas, etc. for college, so I don’t think I’ve bought a book since…..uh…..September? BUT I did splurge the other day on Mark of the Plague by Kevin Sands. It’s the sequel to one of my very favorite books from last year, and it’s one of those books you kind of need to own because you love it so much……..if that makes any sense? Plus, the third book is coming out this September – which I’m super hyped for.
Read Carve the Mark! It’s on my maybe list, so I’m trying to collect as many opinions on it as possible to decide whether or not to read it. The same is true with Goodbye Days – have you read that one yet?
I……kind of have a new story idea? A novella about the places people go when they dream, possibly to be called “The Dreamers and the Dreamt” or “Thornthread” or……something. I’m letting it marinate for a few months before I set to writing it, so I likely won’t do it for Camp.
Ellie | On the Other Side of Reality
That’s a lot of studying!! YOU ARE A STUDYING MACHINE, WELL DONE!! And I honestly feel sooo out of the loop with blogging after basically ignoring EVERYTHING for 2 weeks around the writing. *buries self* I’m trying to wildly catch up now though.😂
Oooh, splurging on books is lovely!! I splurged by getting the hardcover of A Conjuring of Light because it was really stupidly expensive haha. Well, for ME who doesn’t like to spend money if I can help it.😂
I reeeally want to read Goodbye Days soon because I ADORED the author’s debut. <3 I also am reading Carve the Mark just because I really want to make my own opinion on it. I mean, I don't think anyone who's been hurt by it has invalid opinions. I just want to know for myself, you know?
Thornthread is an AMAZING title.😍
Not to brag but… here in America, all libraries are free. I was like, “WHAT FIENDISH CRIME IS THIS, THEY *CHARGED* YOU? FOR BORROWING BOOKS???” And you’re like, I can’t believe they charged *that much*, and I was going… 😐🤔😏 WELL CLEARLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG HERE AND THE FIX IS OBVIOUSLY TO MOVE TO AMERICA. PROBLEM SOLVED (please ignore our politics and embarrassing president). 😃🤗
Also your searches always make me laugh so hard it’s like a health hazard and I should be concerned of dying. Like dude, only 10 problems with being an adult? Free word of advice: adulting sucks. Don’t try it. Move to Neverland and be Peter Pan. 😂
I KNOW, RIGHT?! IT’S SO STUPID. I hate that I have to pay. Basically it stops me reading a TON of books, which is so dumb? But like why would a library want to discourage you from reading???? I have so many angry rants about that. But luckily it’s only for adult books (although they shelve SO many YA books as adult that I just roll my eyes all the time).
But, ya know…paying for libraries > putting up with your president.
😂 sorry not sorry😂😂
Adulting does suck. I could write a legit post on that. I WANT TO BE PETER PAN.
February was pretty good. I got the chance to meet some authors I had really been looking forward to meeting. Valentine’s Day I got to meet Evelyn Skye and Brittany Cavallaro. Most recently, on the 28th, I got to go to the Tor Teen event and meet (primarily) V.E. Schwab! That was the big draw for me, though the other authors were amazing and lovely (Susan Dennard I’d met before, Kim Ligget’s new book The Last Harvest sounds just horror movie enough to be awesome, and my husband thought Erika Lewis was neat). Books of Wonder really does know how to throw an event. 🙂
It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten a scone and for good reason. Most American bakers/bakeries cannot make them properly. They come out all gross and there’s nothing you can do to save them. I’d die for a proper tea with scones and jam and cream.
Speaking of food, though, I did get to try out a new dumpling restaurant in NYC, so that’s something? Next time we go for the fancy cookie place. 😀
I’ve been reading fairly quickly this year (on my own terms – let us not compare them to yours because you put me to shame!). Only one DNF so far and that is really good.
I’m looking forward to starting At the Edge of the Universe, The Hate U Give, You’re Welcome Universe, and A Gathering of Shadows.
Omg meeting authors!! THAT’S SO AWESOME LUCKY YOU!! I’m soooo desperate to meet VE Schwab someday. Maybe she’ll accidentally find herself in Australia one of these days.😂 That’s so awesome how the USA has so many epic book events. Australia needs to learn a bit from you all.😂
I hear ya about the scones. My mum used to make lemonade scones that were AMAZING, and also pumpkin scones. But it’s been years since I actually had one.😂
Dude, I’m not even reading that fast these days.😂 I’m struggling to keep up with all the blogging/bookstagram/twitter/writing/reading soooo bad at the moment.
Oh the Hate U Give is INCREDIBLE and AGOS is obviously my favourite thing of ever. I hope you like them. 😀
Blogging does tend to pile up, doesn’t it? I’ve got a few reviews scheduled for March, which is a load off my mind, but I’ve got to work on the weekly things like TTT and T5W.
I have a feeling I’ll love both! Lila is awesome and I’m anxious to see how she gets into some of the things I know she does in this next book.
… I ate a scone last week. Also this week. I eat them at least once a week THEY”RE THE BEST. My February was fun until school started. Then it was still fun, but less. I learned some aerial silks, participated in a rock climbing competition, (wait that was march) which I sucked at but had no competition so won, wrote essays, went to school… I just finished The Winner’s Curse and HOW HAVE I NOT READ THIS BEFORE? it is excellent.
Also I should do homework so bye…
You learned aerial skills?!? Does this mean YOU BECAME A BIRD, SHAR?!?? CAN I BE A BIRD TOO. WHERE DO WE SIGN UP. (Also I want to rock climb so bad omg. I used to do a lot of it as a kid, but like the wild dangerous kind on hikes that made my parents turn grey and nearly die…but I kind of dream of learning to rock climb with ropes and things. Although I am a weak piece of bone. I don’t even know. All these hauling of books isn’t helping.)
THE WINNER’S CURSE THO. <3 <3 I'm glad you liked it!!
Good luck with your homework!
We did miss you 🙂
You read so many books! I’m so proud of you I’m not even jealous anymore 😀
I’ve been experiencing eye strain a lot (what with work at the computer and then moar and moar readings) that I’ve started listening to books, following your advice. Now I shower with books xD and do dishes. Not as enjoyable (I do miss the act of reading), but I guess I have to think of my eyes.
I didn’t do *that* well in Feb, although slightly better than in January. Haven’t been blogging enough though, but J swear, the days just fly away. And I will have my work load increased. While I make what I never thought I would, I feel like totally whuuut. Is. Going on. And then when I do have an early post on the blog I don’t post it cause nobody read my last post and I’m like why bother xD I’m sure every blogger has had these days. I’ve had a written draft for a week now, not caring to publish it. Or thinking nobody will like it 😀
I guess bloggers are sensitive creatures, just like writers xD
But recently BF got that game we’d been waiting for for a half a year (dystopian, mechanical dinosaurs and fighting them, you’d be impressed :D), so rip my reading!
Anyway, gonna go make coffee. Glad you are back! Did feel a lack of your presence on Twitter et al 🙂
Oh, but! I’m going to do my first ever author interview and now I’m not sure what to ask them:D but so exciting!
YAY I WAS MISSED! *flings confetti over self*
Aw but nooo to the eye strain. That’s really sad. I hope it doesn’t continue though? I’ve been reading a lot of audios too at the moment, but that’s mostly because I’m a fidgity little thing and like to be up and about doing things AND still getting through my TBR.😂 And I agree! February went by fast! I mean, it also went by kind of slow while I was writing, but then I finished and I was like “wait I have not had time to do all the things yet” *panic stations*
Hey I have days where my posts don’t get a lot of attention! It happens to us all. 😉
GOOD LUCK FOR THE AUTHOR INTERVIEW!! I hope they say yes!!
Oh, they said yes already 🙂 it’s a small author, but I liked their book. Now I’m kicking my ass to finally come up with the questions, cause I’ve never done this before, so I’m like you with Gemina 😀 (keep looking away from it :D) hehe.
You know the funny thing about listening to books though? I read them faster while reading the usual way xD funny that.
I am so tired. Honestly, it’s gotten to be a problem because instead of reading the 3 books I borrowed from the library, or writing, I sit and scroll through tumblr because I literally have no energy. *cries*
Okay but I have been waiting for you to read Jen Marie Wilde book for two years. AND YOU FINALLY READ ONE OF HER BOOKS OMG I’M SO EXCITED TO READ QUEENS OF GEEK I NEED IT NOWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
Anyways. The book that I am most excited for this spring is Lord of Shadows. CANNOT WAIT FOR IT.
I love scones, tbh. Their amazing.
Okay but I’d like to know why people are upset with Veronica Roth’s lack of apology. She proved that there was no racism in the book, with that very lengthy and detailed explanation of everything in Carve The Mark. “The shotet are the typical savage dark skinned race!!! boo racism!” okay but Cyra’s brother Ryzak is literally ghost white. The Shotet and Thuvesit don’t even have racial colours. Maybe she could have apologised for not making the non-racism more clear in the book, but do we really need to beat her up over it? Also to the people who claim Veronica was albeist: She literally suffers from chronic pain herself, just like Cyra. Leave her alone.
Sorry I had a little rant there. I feel so bad for Veronica, getting all this hate for no real reason.
Noooo, being tired is NOT FUN. *sends you energising cupcakes because this will surely fix everything* Although I do understand. I feel like I either whip through 3 books in a day or I don’t read at all at the moment.😂 I have no idea what’s up with that haha.
I didn’t even realise Jen Wilde was an Aussie!! I NEED TO READ MORE OF HER BOOKS!! And she’s Autistic too, so fjadksl that’s just awesome.
I *whispers* am not 100% sure why Veronica Roth’s apology was evil too. Although I do agree she SHOULD have said sorry. But I’ve seen this happen with other authors. Twitter calls for an apology but they don’t actually want one. I’m a bit confused about the racism aspect too, if BOTH warring tribes have white and black people amongst them? Which is why I want to read it and find out for myself. But I’ll most likely not review it. And I’m also confused about how everyone hates Veronica Roth when she’s talked about having an anxiety disorder and chronic pain. That makes her a diverse author doesn’t it? I also wonder if a lot of this hate comes from people not liking Allegiant… (I liked Allegiant haha.)
EEEEkkk! I love the new flippy review hovering wonderfulness! It is SO COOL! (you’re basically a pro coder or something now). HOLY COW, Cait (but seriously why do people say holy cow? cows are not holy) I applaud you on writing TWO books last month (HOW?). This is why everyone goes along with your self-proclaimed Queendom.
Omg no! I can’t code AT ALL.😂It’s just a widget haha.
Aww, but thank you! I had such a fun time writing those books. *happy sigh* Although it was kind of hard returning to reality.😂
CARAVAL!!! OMG! please read it 🙂
I WILL!! AS SOON AS I CAN!!
I had a pretty good, if stressful february. School started and then I didn’t read much and panicked about having hove a future and so a research project and also why did I sign up to do so many things? Anyway, though, I really liked Sleeping Giants, which was about robots and rereading this Persephone series about the Greek Gods and rereading Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. Also, I made my friend read daughter of smoke and bone (by forcing the books into her hands) and seeing her reactions as she goes through the books is great (which is a good reason to lend books…maybe the purpose of your ACOL?) and I also went hiking, which was amazing and did some knitting and read many articles on the internet and remembered how freaking much I love journalism. and I finally finished my short story about dragons and journalism and lawyers and wrote a few other things besides, so that’s good. I’m stupidly excited for Strange the Dreamer. I’m definitely not doing Camp Nano, but I have a couple of cool short story ideas and I want to write some non-ficiton essays and maybe a brief play…we’ll see.
I 100% understand panicking about having a future. *sends you encouraging cupcakes* I really want to read Sleeping Giants! I’ve heard it’s formatted like Illuminae? And I need that kind of thing in my life.
HIKING!! KNITTING!! JOURNALISM!! That does sound like a lot of wonderful things happened for you last month. Also dragons, I mean, what can go wrong with a short story about dragons. :’)
I’m stupidly excited for Strange the Dreamer too.😂 I even actually for once have it preordered. I’m so proud of me.
(I hope March is less stressful for you though. *sends cake*)
Cait how did you write 200K in like a week?! That’s amazing, well done!! And magical libraries are always a good idea, ALWAYS. 😉 I’ve had my eye on Bone Gap for a while now, and knowing that you loved it may just be enough for me to go get it (And then struggle to fit it onto my bookshelves!). I’ve only read A Darker Shade of Magic, I really need to catch up with the series (and make sure Kell and Rhy are ok because I love love them). As for writing, I’ve been toying with a contemporary idea but I think it’ll have to wait until the summer to get written. 🙂
I DON’T EVEN KNOW, DUDE, IT JUST HAPPENED. Although, tbh 8 days.😂So over a week. And like what can go wrong with magical libraries, right?! I need one. Particularly one where the book I want is ON the shelf for once. Because I won’t lie…that would be amazing.
BONE GAP IS THE BESSSSSST.
Kell and Rhy are the absolute best things of the universe tho. <3
Your monthly recaps make my day, Cait 🙂 You’ve been so busy!
And OMG Mark Lawrence asked if you wanted an ARC copy?!!!! That’s amazing #bookwormgoals
Congrats on all your bookish achievements too this month! 😀
In terms of your TBR, I’m really intrigued by Spellslinger, and I’d love to know what you think (you are an all-knowing bookish goddess, you)!
Aww, thankyou!! This is actually the nicest thing to hear. <3 I'm really glad you liked it! AND ZOMG I KNOW, I'M LIKE STILL FLAILING. MARK LAWRENCE IS AMAZING. I need to start reading that ASAP.
I'm super keen to start Spellslinger!!
What a beautiful haul Cait! I personally loved Nowhere Near You BUT I loved book 1 a lot too??? They’re like two of my favorite books ever and I cannot stop adoring Ollie and Moritz so. There’s that. But you can expect more of the same from book 1 in book 2 so at least now you’ll know not to expect contemporary but light sci-fi/speculative fiction. So. Also read Goodbye Days first. Please???
ALSO HAVE YOU SEEN THE LATEST TRAILER FOR THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN MOVIE??? Because dude. It’s all the epic of ever. And so funny.
Maybe I’ll like Nowhere Near You better since I know what to expect, right?!? Although I’m a bit sad that the title kiiiind of sounds like they’ll never meet? WHAT IS UP WITH THAT.😂 I still kinda hope they get together.
I WILL READ GOODBYE DAYS BUT AM I READY FOR THE EMOTIONAL TRAUMA????
Oh! I didn’t know there was another one out! *dashes off because is obsessed with pirates*
Your February was amazing!! And omg. The books. You have so many. #Envy
PS I love seeing those two dudes reading Cinder. That makes my heart melt and encourages me to keep on writing!
I read like maybe 6 books in February?? And started the outline of a fantasy parody book I’m working on. Also February was a fab month for my blog too but that’s because it was the first month that I started taking it more seriously. lol.
Isn’t that Cinder photo just the best?!? That is ABSOLUTE AUTHOR GOALS to have a book that has people reading over the shoulder.😂
Ohhh yay for outlining!! I’m about to start outlining! And by “start” I mean, I’m procrastinating by blogging.😂
Okay, I’m going to go all speculating but I think it’s appropriate 😉 but like I think V E Schwab’s next Tor book is the Vicious Sequel, which I need now, but movie pitch?? Comic???? I need all the deets ;-;
Think you’ll do Camp Nano in April?
Oh yes! I forgot about the Vicious sequel…MY BAD.😂 I hope she has 394839 more books planned though because I have need.
I want to do Camp NaNo!! But it depends if I start edits before then…which is looking unlikely because #slack.😂
All good! At least it’s looking like mid year there will be some good releases along with Our Dark Duet *eyes wallet*
I understand, my Nano edits are being a contortionist… Might do something new for a change of pace April ^^ depends on uni though <.<
I NEED OUR DARK DUET LIKE I NEED AIR.😍😍😍
I’m so ridiculously excited for all of your writing plans! Like, magical libraries = yes please!
Too long… now I’m craving scones!
As always, amazing post 😉
AWWW, THANKS, LISSA! You’re always so sweet. <3
^_^ I speak only the truth 😉
I’m still blown away by how much you got written in 8 days. AMAZINGNESS. And I’m hugely jealous and at the same time not? Because I think my fingers would fall off and die in a hole somewhere if I did that.
I think my favorite part of this post, interestingly enough, was: “magnus bane style” — Just bathe in glitter.
Have a good March! 😀
We should all just bathe in glitter tbh. *flips hair majestically*
Aww, but THANKS.😂 I feel like such a weird writing freak atm, but also proud of myself for getting so much done. I doubt I’ll be able to repeat that performance though hahah. But I’m pretty sure anyone can write a whole lot in one day if you have time and energy.😂
Not weird at all! Inspiration for the rest of us 🙂 Just look at how much can be done if you really put your mind to it! You’ve made me want to put more effort into my own WIP 🙂 (And truthfully, I started to really dive into the problem spots and then got sick and decided my head hurt too much to think about such nonsense)
Just … maybe not QUITE as much as you, lol. Life. And, like I said, dedication to keeping my fingers all intact.
Your search engine responses cracked me up!!! Also HOW DID YOU GET THOSE AMAZING HOVER FLIP COVERS?! I would love to do that on my recaps!
It’s just a widget!! It’s called “image caption hover” and it’s free and everything. AND IT MAKES ME FEEL SO TECH SAVVY…when really it’s just a widget hahh.😂
Ahh I am so proud of you for all that writing. It’s such a big accomplishment, I also really like how those covers swing around when I hover over them, so pretty. How do you do it?
It’s just a widget! It’s called “image flip” I think? I just downloaded it for free and it’s sooo awesome. 🎉
I absolutely adored Caraval!! I thought it was so beautiful!! I also have a copy of Carve the Mark and i am also looking forward to forming my own opinion on it 🙂 i have a copy of FrostBlood on my kindle 😀 you had a pretty good month considering it was only 28 days – talk about short changed 😱😱
Oh GOOD. Mostly everyone I know has said Caraval was disappointing.😂 I really want to like it BECAUSE IT’S SO PRETTY! And good luck to both of us with CtM. 🙈
Wow.. HOW DID YOU GET SO MUCH DONE.
I am such a lazy potato… I read books, sure, but my RTC shelf is pretty full right now…
and I actually really loved Queens of Geek! I actually wasn’t too hyped for it, I admit, but um… I gave it 5 stars, so what does that say about me.
I don’t even know.😂 It was a good month for productivity, right?!? My TBR is absolutely insane though…agh. I don’t even know what to do about it.
And SAME about Queens of Geek!! I didn’t have an expectations at all because it kind of looked a bit fluffy for me…but it was perfect?!?
A. I (again) love your unique voice, Cait. These posts are always fabulous! B. HOORAY for novel writing! Go you. I’m pathetic where this is concerned. (TIPS?? ;D)
YAY for amazing books, and all that movie news! I’ve not read “Everything, Everything” (yet), but thought the trailer looked good.
PS: I feel the short month. It did go crazy fast.
Aww, thanks, Rissi! YOU’RE TOO KIND. And my tips for novel writing is basically just to sit thee down and write. Helpful aren’t I?!😂
I’m so hesitant about ADSOM becoming a movie though, why does that have to happen???
Omg I am a little prune with absolutely NO imagination, so I completely get you on the “NO THAT’S NOT HOW HE LOOKS LIKE but I don’t really know how he looks like either???” thing. And HAHAHA it’s so annoying when names are PRACTICALLY THE SAME except for like one letter. #no??? I remember one time I mixed up a name and messed up the whole plot for myself. #yay And AGH I remember reading the Sisters Grimm series and waiting and waiting for the 8th book to be available at the library. But it turns out that the 8th book was THERE THE WHOLE TIME and I had just thought the number “8” on the spine was the number “0”, and therefore meant to be read after the series??? Pathetic little me.
WE ARE PRACTICALLY TWINS, MAY.😂 And it’s just so frustrating when you like have this vague idea of what they look like but then a movie ruins it.😂
