It’s time for a headlong screaming gallop lazy stroll down memory lane so I can tell you how I met my favourite books!
I, um, crossed out that whole headlong screaming gallop because I’m trying to be more chill in this year of our lord twenty-eighteen. But I am truly more one to speedwalk murderously. But, let’s shove that aside and talk about something LOVELY. Aka — that moment where the world changes forever and you hold your most favourite book in your clammy palms.
It’s a fantastic moment, because usually you don’t EVEN KNOW that book will change your life! Usually you’re just hoping for a tolerably good story, same as when you flip a pancake, you hope it makes a tolerably good turn so it it doesn’t look like pancake homicide in your kitchen. *
* Fun fact you never asked for: I can’t flip pancakes.
So basically this is a #MeetCute post but for books!
And I absolutely want you to clap for me, because for starters, I have to ACTUALLY REMEMBER the origin story of (some) of my favourite books and I! And you know my memory is awful. Example —> I was wearing a new pair of socks, took them off, my dog ran off with them, my parent found them and said, “Are these your socks?” To which I’m like: “I don’t think so???”
So anyway! I’m 15% sure this is how I met my favourite books.
Also full disclaimer: these aren’t my only favourite books…ah haha obviously. But these were the ones I could remember a mildly accurate story about.
1. THE SCORPIO RACES BY MAGGIE STIEFVATER
It is NO SECRET that Maggie Stiefvater is my #1 favourite author. If you pressure me into choosing one single favourite author, I actually can! So that shows a wonderful amount of obsession! Nothing to worry about here! So my first Stiefvater book was: The Scorpio Races.
Actually I was just finishing The Year Of The Hunger Games All Powerful Consuming Reign™ and all I wanted was more Hunger Games. I found one of those “what to read when you finish THG” lists and went for it. Why was The Scorpio Races (which is about horse racing on a magical island in the 1900s) on that list? HAHA HAHA I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS. But thus began it all.
2. ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES BY JENNIFER NIVEN
Now admittedly I read this in 2015 (I only remember that because of Goodreads; THANKS GOODREADS) so it’s kind of one of those “it was my favourite but IDK how I’d feel about it now” books. I am planning to reread?! But for now let’s just assume the notorious emotional wreck it made me is fantastic.
This is ALL on Penguin Teen Australia, because they sent out ARCs! I had nooo idea what this book was about. Zero expectations. Zero hype because: so far pre-release. Look my copy didn’t even have a cover to judge. It was the most low-expectations meetings with a book ever and then I thought? Why not just be an emotional black hole in space over this book and love it forever?!? Nice.
3. THE WICKER KING BY K. ANCRUM
Ugh you people…I love this book so so much. I pretty much have a little LOG IN MY EYE DUE TO ROGUE EMOTIONS. Also just so you know…it has a ton of unique formatting (you can see it on my #bookstagram here) so it was also a delicious treat for the eyeballs too.
Actually just Goodreads! Goodreads is great for making sure your TBR has 3989 books on it at all times and you have 0% chance of a life outside of reading. (LOVE YA TOO, GOODREADS.) But it was my “if you win NaNo you can buy this.” I’d been eyeballing it since I first heard of it (plus it reminds me of an old draft of a book I wrote) and then two friends gave it RAVE reviews. So here am I. Doomed. What an excellent story ugh.
4. SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA BY BECKY ALBERTALLI
Look the hype for this one was WILD on the blogosphere when it came out. “It’s so CUTE,” everyone said, “go read the CUTENESS, CAIT.” Eh I don’t even like cute. I am fearsome and dark and–
Okay whatever, it was adorable and I loved it.
Besides 9 million bloggers yelling about it, two other reasons were (a) my friend Maraia told me to go read it and I got the audio thanks to her, and (b) I think it made a bit of a splash because the author got an agent + a book deal in like a very very short amount of time?!? So that was inspiring!
5. CITY OF BONES BY CASSANDRA CLARE
AKA one of my other most fervent authors to adore!! Also if anyone thinks I am not hyperventilating in a corner like the ghost of christmas past over the upcoming release of Queen of Air And Darkness…YOU’RE VERY WRONG. I’M DEAD HERE. I’M SO EXCITED.
Now remember you love me, ok? But…but…IT WAS THE MOVIE. Look I vaguely knew it was famous and it was always my goal as a baby blogger to “read all the famous books.” But nothing about the half-naked dude appealed to me??? And then I saw the movie and IT WAS SO GOOD —> so I read the book —> so now I’m wildly addicted to all things Shadowhunters. Let no one say book-film-adaptions crush reading.
AND YES I LIKED THE MOVIE. I THOUGHT IT WAS EXCELLENT. DON’T EAT ME.
6. VICIOUS BY VE SCHWAB
This was my very first Schwab book!! And there were so many reasons why I was like “EH” about it. I mean adult books?? Pfft. Leave me with my crayons. Obviously I was wonderfully wrong and I eat my words and my hat and, like, the wall too probably. Because I ADORE Schwab books.
We met at the library. As all good love stories begin. (Fun fact: there is no romance in Vicious ah ahahah.) I think again it was the blogosphere yelling at me to read it?? But I don’t remember that much. But I ASKED my library to buy it because I didn’t trust me liking it enough to buy it myself. Oh haha. How things change.
ALSO VENGEFUL IS COMING OUT IN AUGUST WHO’S EXCITED.
7. CHARM & STRANGE BY STEPHANIE KUEHN
Do I even talk about this book on the blog?! I read it sooo long ago but honestly I still think about it. It’s SO brutal on the feels, plus all about mental illness and I just??? It’s a good book, mate. Ridiculously underrated.
IT WAS BACK IN 2014, WHEN WE ALL LIVED IN A CABIN IN THE WOODS WITH NO ELECTRICITY…haha just kidding. I have no freaking clue why it was on my radar. Which is helpful for this post Cait. But I did win my copy in a giveaway! Back when I won like…so many giveaways?! Back when I was LUCKY. (Sobbing.)
8. ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE BY BENJAMIN ALIRE SÁENZ
I read this book originally in 2014! And I was like “What even is the big deal–OHHH” which hit around 50%. It’s very slow but also super introspective and I totally headcanon Ari also has depression. And books with good depression rep? Needed.
You know how the cover has all those annoying stickers on it?! THIS IS ACTUALLY WHY I PICKED IT UP! I hate stickers, ugh I loathe them. How dare you mar a cover’s perfect visage omg. But I wanted to know why it was so awarded/famous. So we met through the stickers I hate. The irony…I can’t even.
9. THE FOXHOLE COURT BY NORA SAKAVIC
I admit it! This is one of my new total adoration loves. It’s just. so. addictive. okay!?? It’s 100% about characters and relationships, with a plot of sport and mafia on the side. And I honestly shouldn’t have adored it as much. (Ew: sport?) BUT I DID. Everyone is tragic and broken and snarky and I just…best of the year ugh I love books that focus on characters first. (Although there are some problematic themes, I feel is fair to note.)
I’m like 90% sure a blogger was raving about it AND it was free at the time… (It’s an indie book.) So I was like “yeah, I can download that who cares.” Insert me = not reading it for 2 years. Then me = READING ALL 3 BOOKS IN A WEEK AND SOBBING.
10. TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE BY JENNY HAN
This book can be summed up with a total: AFJSDKALFD. It’s just so cute, ok?! I’ve even reread it (I’m about to read the sequels shhh give me time) and it doesn’t stop being warm and full of cookies and a bit of anxiety.
We met via INSTAGRAM! When I first joined, for some reason it was everywhere. Seriously, someone was at least featuring it once a day?!? Talk about recommendation by beating you over the head with a book. I caved. I loved. I made a pink cake in honour of it. Bookstagram sells books, ok. It is KNOWN.
I’m not picking favourites but I do remember how I met all the books you’ve mentioned that I’ve read!
Simon was the best birthday gift of my life back when it hadn’t won any awards SO MY COPY DOESN’T HAVE ANNOYING STICKERS YAAAAYY and it was my first nook ft. gay people? Let’s just say it got me obsessed with gay otps
I actually read City of bones after TID because I was all GIMME MORE SHADOWHUNTERS and I had randomly picked up a battered version of The Clockwork Angel from my library… it needed a hospital is all I’m saying.
Aristotle and Dante had been on my TBR since so long and I had screamed when I saw my classmate with a copy in her hands at the school! I gave it back in a day and was a complete sobbing mess.
And wow All The Bright Places was soooo long ago like eons ago! I vaguely remember somebody saying – you read books? Here, this one is good AND IT WAS
AND IMPORTANT QUESTION:
No judging for watching and liking the movie but do you watch the Shadowhunters show?!?!
OMG I’M JEALOUS OF YOUR SIMON COPY THEN.😂😂 I mean I know I met Ari & Dante through the stickers but aghi aghi I hate stickers so bad.😂 My copy of Simon annoys me no end for that. Ahem. Also aww I’m so glad you liked Ari & Dante too! I mean. Those boys. That storyline. THAT WRITING. AHHH.
I haven’t seen the Shadowhunters show…should I?! I’ve heard it’s horrible but LIKE I’M ALSO CURIOUS.
We have a mutual hate for stickers then…like I’m happy this lovely book won so many thing but put those freaking stickers on the backcover or inside the book!!!!
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN THE GORGEOUS COVER
Everything about Ari and Dante makes me go heart eyes 😍
And omg no, Shadowhunters isn’t horrible. I mean the first season might be a little cringey due to Clary’s overacting and okayish visual effects BUT ONG S2 IS BOMB AND S3 IS COMING SOON SO BINGE WATCH IT CAIT PLEASE
Not to mention Malec rules that series!!! AND THEIR MAGNUS IS PERFECT 😭😭😭
Lowkey thinking of sending you perfect malec and magnus pics on twitter
Who can flip pancakes anyway? xD
Actually, I can still remember the first time I read Jane Eyre (one of my all-time favorites, and I’ve reread it quite a few times – and I’m not big on rereading). I remember where I was sitting, what the air felt like, what the table looked like, what time of day it was and what I was eating – and I wasn’t even home. It was a place I haven’t been in over 10 years, probably. Or more. And the reading takes part 17-18 years ago. Guess it made an impression, huh xD but yeah, I don’t remember where I got it. It was loaned, but I’ve got no clue who it was from. Too bad!
This is such a cute post idea!! The stickers story though, omg xDDDDD so good.
Honestly only dark wizards or people who lie. PANCAKES ARE UNFLIPPABLE.
Aww I love that you’ve reread Jane Eyre even though you don’t reread a lot! True sign of a book that’s stolen a heart. :’) *sniffles in appreciation*
(Also I’m really glad you liked this post!😂It was just a cute squish of fun to write!)
When I was in high school, I discovered 90% of my favourite books by my fellow bookaholic friend saying “You HAVE to read this!” These days I meet them on Goodreads in one of two ways: (1) randomly stumbling across them, often because an amazing cover catches my eyes; or (2) on a list of “similar” books to ones I’ve already read and loved.
In terms of reading a book to see what all the fuss was about…okay, I turned 14 in 2008, when Twilight really took off. I read it because half the girls in my class were reading it, you know, DURING class. 14-year-old me was hooked. Funny thing is, only a year later and with many more books under my belt, 15-year-old me was not impressed…
Honestly recommendations from people are AMAZING and I love when the people are right and we do adore the book. 😍😍 (And I totally pick up books just because they’re pretty too ah ahhha.)
That’s too relatable about Twilight. 😂I read it at 19 just to see what the fuss was about, but made my 15yo sister borrow it from the library for me. Which is DUMB. No shame in what you want to read, but ahhahah I was embarrassed.😂
It’s kind of strange how we sometimes read things we feel embarrassed to admit to reading. In the last 10 years (holy scrap was it that long ago?!) I’ve read things a lot worse and more disturbing that Twilight. But you learn something every time you pick up a book, no matter what that book is…and even if the lesson is what NOT to do or write or read in future!
Such a great post! I remember how I met some of my favourites, but with others my memory is completely empty.
Here are a couple of my favourites and how I “met” the book:
The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan / Brandon Sanderson: First encounter, the library. When I was really young. I didn’t quite understand the book. Second encounter: No idea what made me think of the first book or why I bought it in.. 2009 or something? I cannot remember at all why I suddenly thought of the series I hadn’t thought of in years.
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde: Cait’s review!
The State of Grace by Rachael Lucas: I randomly saw it in a book shop.
The Night’s Dawn trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton: My boyfriend’s brother recommended this trilogy to me, I picked up the first book based on his recommendation.
Geronimo Stilton books: I randomly came across 2 of them in a library sale. It looked so cute, I had to have it.
My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult: Reviews on book blogs or book videos.. I honestly can’t remember as it’s so long ago. I had no idea what/who I followed back then, I lost all that information unfortunately.
The Midwife’s Confession by Diane Chamberlain: Amazon recommended it to me, on a whim I bought it and I loved it.
The Lontobyn Chronicles by David B. Coe: A friend in high school was reading this series and she let me borrow her books. They sparked my love for fantasy, it was the first fantasy books (not for children but for adults) I read. Back then there was no YA fantasy! Nowadays it sometimes seems a bit more average fantasy rather than brilliant, but it’ll always have a space in my heart because it sparked my love for fantasy. The magic is linked to birds, which is pretty cool. It is an adult series though, not YA.
A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard: I think it was Cait’s review! I loved this book.
Ok I could go on and on.. I have sooo many favourite books! I didn’t even mention any memoirs, information books, or many other favourites. I find I remember my recent favourites relatively well or average, but of favourites that I discovered when I was a lot younger.. I only remember the story in a special few of those cases.
I do sometimes read a book to see what the fuss is about! With hyped books in particular.
Omg I’m totally the same. Like there’s some books I ADORE but I wouldn’t have the faintest clue why/when I even picked them up. Honestly without Goodreads to track reviews/dates I wouldn’t even know I read books.😂Ahem.
AWWWW I’m honoured for the Queens of Geek on and A Quiet Kind of Thunder!!💕💕Omg that last one was so emotional afjdsklafd.
I’m also glad you meet so many books through recs (and library sales YAS) because that’s such a fun way to get books. Totally proves that word-of-mouth (or well, computer screen?) does a lot to sell books!
Great post. I seriously need to know how you come up with all these fun blog post ideas. I can remember the first Harry Potter book I read, it was Harry Potter and the goblet of fire, I was bored at home and it was on my Sisters shelf so I decided to read it. it was a little confusing cause I had not read the previous books but it was an amazing read and introduced me to the wizardry world. So yeah boredom can lead you to greet books. 😂 😂
I can’t even remember why I thought to do this one?!😂 I’m not sure it’s totally original, but it was fun haha. And aww I love your Harry Potter origin story there and stealing it from your sister? *hi fives* I still have books of my sister’s that I *borrowed* (ahem). This is what sisters are for clearly.😂
The only one of these I’ve read is Scorpio Races? (on your recommendation, if that stops you screaming because I haven’t read the rest??) I believe I read Hunger Games and Divergent to see what the fuss was about (except I apparently forgot to read the last book in the Divergent trilogy, because I don’t remember the ending everyone screams about. So.)
Oh. Also. I kind of tagged you for something. *coughs* Several other people expressed interest in seeing you do it, too, because you are a Famous Book Blogger Dragon.
IT DOES STOP ME SCREAMING (For like 5 seconds so enjoy that) SO THANK YOU, JEM, YOU FANTASTIC BEAN. And aww a tag! I will definitely run over there and read it! (I actually need post ideas so this should be perfect.😂)
I met two of my most favourite book series through the movies. Yes. I watched the Harry Potter movies before I read the books and the same thing happened with the Percy Jackson series. I enjoyed the movies and I longed to have the books. I think my mum bought me the books because I was bugging her 24/7 for them 😂.
Some of my favorite books I discovered through book blogs and through goodreads. There were books I loved many years ago too when I was still a baby book dragon and I can’t quite remember what they were all about. I can’t name them all because they’re too many and my memory is so not cooperating with me right now (what else is new?).
Anyway, I admit that I read books because of the hype. I’m a critic so I want to see for myself if the books really deserve the hype. There are some hyped up books I keep on putting off to read though. What I want to read depends on my mood and some books just don’t fit my crazy moodswings.
I just read The Hate U Give and man that really does deserve the hype. I’m gonna read more hyped up books like the cruel prince, hazel wood, and the immortalists after my final exams. Wish me luck. Cakes are so much appreciated too.
-R
Seee, universe?! BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTIONS CAN BE GOOD FOR US! I discovered The Book Thief (Ironic since it’s all about books) through the movie first!! And Goodreads is basically the only reason I even know I’m a bookworm. Thanks for having my back, Goodreads.😂
YES. The Hate U Give is incredible. <3
I like the story for The Scorpio Races the best. It was a fate that you found this book on such a list of all places LOL
Omg it changed my LIFE being on that list.😂 But I still ask myself…why. Why was it there.😂
This is the greatest post idea. :’) And ‘nothing about the half-naked dude appealed to me’ is possibly the greatest line for a post about meet cutes. :’) …I still haven’t re-tried the first book of that series. A lot of the best books I’ve read are ones that I’ve seen other bloggers raving about, but I do have a good story about Runemarks. I was in this independent (I think?) bookshop (they literally made people who were browsing coffee…I don’t actually like coffee, but still!) in (I think?) Bath, and I just randomly came across it. And it was signed. And, at the time, I knew NOTHING about Norse mythology so I read the blurb and figured there was going to be a cute childhood friend romance between this girl Maddie and this one dude One-Eye.
I was wrong. So wrong.
The book was amazing.
Ahh haha THANK YOU! I’m glad you enjoyed it.😂And here I am talking about meetcutes and then like “ew, people”.😂 Iconic, Cait, well done.
And that’s such a cool story about how you met Runemarks! And I love it when we think books are just going to be “eh it’ll be a fun cute story” and then they swallow our whole lives. LOVELY.
I wouldn’t be able to remember anything without Goodreads. That site is basically my whole brain. I met Simon Vs. pretty much the same way you did. People on the internet were raving about it, and the synopsis sounded interesting, but I generally don’t read “cute” books. I finally gave in and read it and loved it!
SAME THO. I wouldn’t even be able to call myself a bookworm if Goodreads didn’t remind me to.😂
I still remember how I met Harry Potter! Mum was going to London and asked me what I’d like her to bring back, so I said “a Harry Potter book” she came back with the newest at the time copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, meaning I started with book four, not the smartest of ideas. She picked it up from actual King’s Cross station, too.
I picked up Twilight to see what all the fuss was about. Glad I already knew that it wasn’t my thing, borrowed the book from someone and knocked it out in an afternoon.
Aww but that’s so nice she bought you a book! YOU HAVE A LOVELY MUM. (Also pure iconic aesthetic for buying it at King’s Cross.😂)
I loved reading this post, Cait! I never thought about how I discovered all my favorite books before. Honestly I think I read most of my original favorites (Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Anne of Green Gables) because my sister did.😂As for more recent books, I mostly discovered them because of bloggers screaming about them! And also, random library hunts, cause those are the best.
Siblings are GREAT for forcing us into our favourites.😂I think I’ve forced my sister to read sooo many books (including Harry Potter) hhah!
Read Percy Jackson because I saw the movie and liked it (looking back I’m like why did I like it?) And a friend wanted me to read it so reading it saved my life as well as ruined it.
Read Legend because I was at the library and I wanted to get Artemis Fowl hoping it would fill my PJO hole but they didn’t have the first book so I got Legend instead because it was my back up.
Read The Lunar Chronicles because someone recommended it as good ya sci-fi after Red Queen failed me. So if I didn’t hate Red Queen I wouldn’t have discovered one of my favorites.
And I read The Maze Runner because I have a friend who’s obsessed with it and I wanted to see what the hype was about.
Also hELP I FINISHED THE DEATH CURE LAST NIGHT!!!!!! *cries into cereal*
I actually love how movie adaptions can sometimes introduce us to the books! I know people are really down on adaptions sometimes but nooo I think they can be good.😂 I mean admittedly I don’t like the PJO movie, but the sequel was kind of funny haha. Oh and I read Legend because of my “what to read if you like the hunger games” list too.😂 (Ugh and Red Queen failed me so bad too.)
ISN’T THE DEATH CURE SO NICE AND FLUFFY AND KIND ON THE FEELS.
I don’t remember clearly how I got to know all my favourite books but I do remember the way I got into Six of Crows because I almost didn’t read it at all!
I remember being in a bookstore after my birthday, as a gift I got a bookstore gift card (the best gift a bookworm can get btw!) and I was looking for which books to buy. And I picked up Six of Crows because I heard so much about it on bookstagram and booktube, but the back of the books didn’t interest me at all! But I still decided to pick it up because of the cover 😂 I’m so happy I did because SoC is one of my all time favourite books now! So happy I listened to the fellow readers, and not the dull description on the back of the book. (also, who says judging books by its covers has to be a bad thing!!)
I’m glad the SoC cover got you in though. LIFE IS CHANGED FOREVER.😂 I read it because of literally the whole blogosphere going mad over it too, tbh, but I wasn’t like the *biggest* ever fan of the Grisha so I was worried? Silly me.😂 It’s so amazing. KAZ.
I remember discovering one of my favourites. I’d gone to a local kids’ bookstore (an amazing place… sadly, it closed) and asked someone who worked there for recommendations for well-written YA. She recommended a couple (I bought one of them when I found it heavily discounted, and it was neither well-written nor interesting so I DNFed it). But then she told me about one of her favourite books, and she made it sound so interesting that I had to try it. Hardly anyone’s heard of it, but I love it. (The book is Tiger Moon by Antonia Michaelis.)
Have I read hyped books just to see what all the fuss was about? Yeah… of course! And, usually, it doesn’t work out. If I Stay, The Hollow, Throne of Glass, and The Fault in Our Stars were all disappointments for me, even though they seemed to be pretty popular with 99.9% of the rest of the reading population. I think Before I Fall is one of the only hyped books that I’ve read and actually really liked.
Oh… also, I just had a look at your Bookstagram for The Wicker King. My rating might’ve been slightly higher if I’d read it in paper form; I’m a sucker for pretty aesthetics. (The e-book version had all the illustrations, but they were just kind of plunked down willy-nilly on plain white backgrounds. Not as impressive.)
oh that’s super cool how you got your favourite recommended from a bookstore! I actually have never asked anyone in person for recs.😂Which probably isn’t surprising haha. I think hyped books have a LOT of potential for failure, especially if they’re not our style? But I’m glad most of the hyped books I read I end up loving! (Except Throne of Glass ahahha.)
Aww this is such a cute post, I love it <3 Also these pictures and unique formatting of of the Wicker King makes me want to read it like, 2000000 times more. oops. It just looks so cool?!
I can't remember how I met some of my favorite books, but… sometimes yes, it's because people just keep screaming at me to go and read this series already. That happened with the lunar chronicles series and for that one, I'm glad I caved, because it's still one of my favorite series of all times now 🙂
Fantastic post! x
Yesss please do read The Wicker King! IT’S GORGEOUS INSIDE AND OUT. Basically nearly made me cry so that’s fun.😂 (And I rarely get emotional with books, but that one?!? <3 <3) And I love how enthusiastic we bookworms get when giving recs.😂
Oh man, this post makes me realize just how many books I’ve FORGOTTEN where I got them (and there’s so many good books on it!! Vicious and The Scorpio Races are great!!). The books just multiply behind my back, I think, a lot like plot bunnies. I can’t tell if that’s better or worse than multiplying plot bunnies.
I know for sure that I fell in love with The Lies of Locke Lamora waaaaaay back in high school when I was reading the library dry. Hadn’t noticed it before, picked it up for funsies, and realized thieves doing questionable things with questionable morals for their found family is actually my favorite thing in the world.
Which led me to Six of Crows a few years later. I think that was the first book I ever bought for my Kindle!
And then I know I met the Book Thief in middle school, reading that library dry, too. There’s a few scenes that just get me in tears every time, and I’ve read it SO MUCH.
Side note: clearly there’s a lot of theft happening in these books? And they’re stealing my heart? Gee whiz.
Bonus mention to Alexandra Bracken’s The Darkest Minds series! I won the first book in a writing contest judged by Bracken (I’m still not over it omg), and it had me sold from the start. It’s (I think) the only YA dystopian I’ve ever really truly loved.
Ahhah don’t worry, I understand! I was trying to work out why I picked up other of my favourites and I’m like “I have no idea.”😂😂 It’s so so hard to remember?!? AND OMG LOCK LAMORA. So much love. I have no idea why I picked it up either or who recommended it though. But holy heck that book is my favourite. (Same with Six of Crows!)
This is such an awesome post, Cait! I remember how I was introduced to Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor for the first time. I was doing work experience at Hodder & Stoughton at the time, and I was doing some work in Editorial at this point. The editor gave me a proof to read, to get an idea of the book for…. something, I can’t remember what. So yeah, I was at a publishers, just reading this amazing for a few hours, and I completely fell in love! And the most annoying thing was that it wasn’t coming out for months! So yay, super perks, getting the book before press and other bloggers, etc., but I couldn’t talk about it for months either! I have lots of favourites, but I have two authors at joint top place, and Laini Taylor is one of them. And it killed me not to be able to rave about this book to the world. But I did feel pretty awesome that I was one of the first people outside publishing (and the people the author knows) who got to read it. I don’t think Hodder & Stoughton did any proofs for the rest of the trilogy, they just sent out finished copies, so I just feel so lucky to have it – and that I got it signed last year!
Awesome post, Cait! This is really the only story I can remember that isn’t through publishers sending me ARCs or that I just picked up in a bookshop, ha!
OMG JO!! THAT IS SUCH AN AMAZING STORY!!! I feel like this makes you super famous since you read like THAT much of a famous book before it was even outh. *flails* Laini Taylor’s books are just ridiculously awesome all the time. I’m constantly obsessed. Ahhh. And you have it signed. 😍😍
It’s proven fact now, a goldfish has a memory better than I. Thinking of all of my favorite books and I can’t remember for sure how I met any of them? Like I think I heard of Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz and The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie via booktube, heard bisexual mc for Not Otherwise Specified and Lesbian pirates for The Abyss Surrounds Us and was just like “YES I HAVE A MIGHTY NEED* and bought them then read them. I’m like 80% sure but what booktuber did I hear about them from? No idea! And i’m not even sure it was booktube.
I believe Goosebumps as a kid I first saw in a Scholastic book fair and even as a young child was drawn to horror, so I saw the scary looking covers and was drawn to them like a moth to a flame.
I have read a book just to see what the fuss was about, sort of. I heard so much hype for Illuminae but the size + weird formatting + uber hype scared me. Eventually I saw it on sale on kindle, so I bought it for $2, and I read it during a readathon, Tome Topple for reading those big books, and I loved it. I haven’t read Gemina yet though I have it in hardcover. I’m getting Illuminae in hardcover in the mail today and next month (yeah i’m gonna be late I always am) i’m gonna get Obsidio. Because I want to re-read Illuminae in physical format and then I can just binge the trilogy. Or at least those are my plans. 🙂
(Oh wow I suddenly need The Abyss Surrounds Us?!? WHY HAVEN’T I HEARD OF IT BEFORE.) And I love that booktube is a reason you’ve found a ton of favourites! Honestly bookworms are really good sellers of books.😂
I was scared of Illuminae too, pheww that hype was intense and wild. But SO worth it. (And the audio is incredible too just in case you ever get the chance to try it!) I haven’t ordered Obsidio yet, shaaame on me. I’m seeing everyone else reading it and I’m so jealous.😂
I met most of my favourite books either just to see what the fuss was about or because my cousin shoved them at me and said they were good…
Although, funny story, Harry Potter is now one of my absolute favourite series, but umm… I think I spent seven or eight years (literally since I was four or five) completely refusing to read it, no matter HOW many times my cousin tried. I read almost everything else she ever recommended, but I REFUSED to read HP.
And then my brother read it. He almost NEVER reads. So I couldn’t just let him read something I hadn’t, especially something so famous.
So basically I found one of my favourite series through petty sibling rivalry…
Ah haha I love that you were stubborn about Harry Potter.😂 Honestly my sister did that too…she was like “eh” when I’m like “READ IT” and then one summer she just binged the whole lot and now I get to smirk and say I told you so.😂 Sibling rivalry is the best.
This is such a cute post! I love hearing how people encountered different books. It’s always so exciting to hear! Do you mind if I use this idea to make a similar post on my blog? I will be sure to link back to your post.
Oh of course! Go ahead! I’d love to see your version. 😀
i shall tell you a tale of how i met two of my favorites, which i actually remember….scratch that, make it three. maybe four??? nah, just three.
Percy Jackson: (i might have already told you this story, but i don’t remember. XD )
i was 11 years old, a wee little lass, when i had to stay home from church because i was sick. mom gave me a green-ish book with a pretty cool cover, and told me i might like it. all morning the house was filled with my wheezy sick laughter as i laughed my head off at every page, driving my grandma nuts. needless to say, it was love at first page.
Keeper of the Lost Cities:
the fourth book had just come out, and one of my favorite book bloggers was raving about how good it was. i checked out the first book and got interested….i now own most of the series, including a signed copy of the sixth book, (I MET THE AUTHOR OH MY WORD) and am eagerly awaiting the seventh.
Eragon:
i just remember those books always being there, sitting on the self. great big hardcovers with dragons on the front- my sibs and i would make up stories about them, our favorite was that it was just one dragon, but as it went through life it changed color, and it also went through several stages, turning from good to evil, or evil to good, we liked switching it up. i don’t remember when, but my dad said i could read it. i was elated, because those book bricks were like the elite level to me, and i couldn’t wait to tackle it. reading those for the first time was the best ever. they were soooooo big, and i just dived in and wouldn’t come out. i still love to do that, and i re-read them whenever i just want to be swallowed by book. (just reeeeead it, put it on your goals for the year, if that will help. XD )
oh, and last night i had the strangest dream that i was running a race. i can’t stand running, i’m really slow, have no stanima, and get cramps like crazy. well, in my dream i was getting tired, and i was losing, and i saw a table of Bojangles at the side of the track. so i went over there and leaned against the table, eating a biscuit. when i was finished, and had caught my breath, i grabbed a sausage biscuit in each hand and walked the rest of the race. it was a really strange dream. XD
Most crazily, ~Olive
(Okay but I love the dream. 😂😂 Food will help all circumstances, ah haha.)
And YAY your stories are great! Especially the Percy Jackson one…clearly your parents are good at giving you epic books to read. 😉
Okay so my favourite book has a fantastic story behind it (in my humble opinion). Okay maybe its not that fantastic but this book means so much to me Okay? It is Kids of Appetite by David Arnold and I love Love LOVE it because the main character has Moebius Syndrome JUST LIKE MY SISTER. Moebius is suuperr rare and I had never heard it mentioned outside of the bi-annual Moebius Syndrome foundation conferences that we go to. SO. When I saw Kids of Appetite on a table of raffle prizes at said conference, I snatched it up and ran away. Just kidding. I bought 50 raffle tickets and put them all in for this book. And I won 2 OF THEM. And now all my booky friends have read it and everyone I meet gets it shoved in their faces by me. I love it. Honestly I really hope you’ve read it and if you haven’t, this is me shoving it in your face. You’re welcome.
OKAY THAT IS A FANTASTIC STORY. I want to read Kids of Appetite so so much more now (I’ll blame you hehe). But I’m just really glad you (and your sister) will be able to have this book in your life. <3 That's so special.
So when I was like eleven I had this really cool teacher who taught me maths (and later English and media studies.) and he was in charge of my study hall, so we would often chat during that time. And study hall was in the library because LIBRARIES ARE WHERE LOVE STORIES BEGIN. And he was like ‘oh you’ll like this book’ and I read Sabriel. And then he said “these are really good too’ and then I read Protector of the Small and adored them. And then he said ‘read Coraline’ and I read half of Coraline then got too freaked out. But that was really great and we’re still friends on goodreads.
And then another adult friend was staying at our house and had some of Michelle Cooper’s montmaray books on Adobe Digital editions on her laptop, and they were gonna expire in like two days and so I just reaaad late into the night.
and I also have a story about how the twilight books helped me make one of my best friends. BOOKS ARE SO GOOD TO US. Lots of books I don’t remember as much though!
Aww yay for teachers who get you stuck on good books!! (And that’s awesome you’re still friends on goodreads.)
BOOKS ARE SO GOOD TO US.❤️❤️ THEY BUILD US, TRULY THEY DO.
I will never stop freaking out (in a good way) when I see The Foxhole Court mentioned on book blogs; I am disgustingly obsessed with the trilogy and all of its messed up, lovable, broken, hilarious, insanely loyal characters. I don’t usually read Indie books and probably wouldn’t have ever found this trilogy if it weren’t for Twitter. I posted a tweet asking for recommendations of books similar to The Captive Prince novels, and a many kind folks told me The Foxhole Court was a must-read. I’ve never been so grateful for social media!
I’m disgustingly in love with them too.😂 I mean there are a ton of problematic as heck things in them, but I think the characters know they’re being awful. But AHAGHISAHDL THE RELATIONSHIPS AND THE FRIENDSHIPS. IT’S SO GOLD. I CRY. I WNAT MORE.
I like to think that I had a little something to do with you picking up Simon VS and The Foxhole Court, hahahaha. Who raves too much about Simon? CERTAINLY NOT ME NO WHAT ARE YOU SAYING.
Simon VS for sure too! But I think The Foxhole Court not really.😂I actually had no idea you’d read it lmao, I am like 15% sure it was Adaline’s blog but I’m not *totally* positive?!
fdkgjdbfkgdfjk I HAD TO RUSH TO THE COMMENTS I KID YOU NOT.
SOMEONE ELSE WHO SAY THE TMI MOVIE FIRST AND THEN READ THE BOOKS AND ADORED THEM. Thank you I no longer feel aloneeeee!!!!! *rushes back to read the rest of the post*
basically my heart swoons b/c these meetcutes were adorable and #goals (cringe at hashtag but !! oh!! well!!) and aefjhbskf this was cute.
I shall now go and hug all my books in my clammy hands as you suggest and tell them I love them (even though I have 0 clue how I met them…)
HEY LU, WE ARE OFFICIALLY LIKE TWINS NOW. *HI FIVES* THE BANTER WAS A+ IN THAT MOVIE. I WILL NEVER BACK DOWN FROM HOW MUCH I LOVE IT.😂
ALL THE BANTER.
BUT SORRY???? I’M ILSA’S TWIN????????????????
*sorry every time that I think twin I think THE FOX COURT AND and and… ANDREW. THat’s it I’ve broken down another 428 times*
the movieeeeeee THOOOOO
*screams softly about the Foxhole Court for absolutely foreveR* Seriously i’m SOBBING whY IS THAT TRILOGY MY EVERYTHING.
HOW DID IT TAKE OVER MY SOUL… AND NO I DID NOT JUST REREAD THE LEST BOOK AND ACTUALLY DIE ALL OVER AGAIN. NO. NOPE. NAHHHH.
jfdngkfdjg how. did. this. become. my. life. oh. i. know. Andrew. Minyard.
Ooh this is a really cute post idea Cait! Goodreads is definitely the tinder for bookworms, we met so many of our book-soulmates there! I AM SO EXCITED FOR VENGEFUL LIKE GIVE ME NOWWW. Ahem. My favorite series is The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, and we met in a bookstore because I fell in love at how cute the cover for Clockwork Prince is. And by the cover, I mean the model for Jem 😍😍😍 As an Asian, it’s a VERY RARE occasion to see Asian on book covers so when I saw Jem I fell in love immediately. I even googled his name but I read on Cassie’s blog that she can’t reveal the models name *cries*
Ah hahha yes, tinder for bookworms. 😂😂 I honestly discovered so many of my favourites just watching other people add them! And omg the Clockwork series is amazing (the covers are divine)…and AGREED how good it is to see minorities on covers! MORE OF IT.
OMG I’VE HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE! I can’t believe I haven’t yet picked it up!
I haven’t heard of the Wicker King but both are added to my goodreads! I will read asap yes yes…
Also, I’m so looking forward to you interviewing Tomi!
PLEASE READ IT IT’S SO CUTE YOU’LL JUST FALL IN LOVE!! And The Wicker King is one of my favourites.❤️💔
(Interview with Tomi is up, just in case you didn’t get to see it!)
Wonderful compilation, Cait!
I met The Scorpio Races in college during a YA fiction class. I met Les Miserables when I was shopping for my brother’s birthday present and decided to abscond it four years later because he never read it (Actually I saw the musical and film first). And I checked out Code Name Verity from the library in grad school because I was sick of academic texts. Not anywhere near a complete list of my top books, but they’re some of my favorite stories. And yes, I do read books to see what all the fuss is about, and I’m 50/50 on whether I like them or not.
Okay but gifting books and then taking them back is EXACTLY what I do too.😂😂Why else do we keep siblings if not to “borrow” their books forever, hmm!?😂
I’m going to make a small guess. 40% of this list are books written by Maggie Stiefvater? 😝 EDIT: …Let’s pretend I did not say anything. 🤣
I’m dying to read Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda, but I have two options: a) buy it on Amazon, but shipping cost and b) pray they have it in my bookshop and that it does not cost a kidney. 🙃
I love books turned into movies! I always feel like an alien for that. 🙈 By the way, stickers are going to be my villain origin story– probably the one glued on the spine of my copy of Delirium.
Love this post idea, Cait! 😊
Aw come now! I like to try and be even and not play favourites.😂 Although if I can manage to sneak a Stiefvater book into a post…I ALWAYS WILL.😂
Oh no! That sucks about Simon Vs. What about Book Depository? It has free shipping world wide and the paperback isn’t too expensive (although I know being able to afford books, no matter how much they are, isn’t always that simple).
Stickers will probably nearly be my origin villain story too.😂
I’m waiting for it to fall in my mailbox! 😃 I purchased it through Book Depository. I’d never thought of it until a few days ago. I’m so excited! 😍
I don’t even remember how I met my favourites… Cinder I do know it was thanks to the blogosphere, and I do remember it was a hate-to-love story. Best day of my life btw. Pride and Prejudice is everywhere in the world and I wanted to start classics, so there is where everything started, besides I challenged myself to not fall in love with Mr Darcy and I failed epically. It happened the same for me with the Hunger Games movie, though I’m still surprised you do like the Shadowhunters movie… And I will always keep in my heart Hush, Hush bc Becca Fitzpatrick got me closer to the books. The Princess Bride is not exactly a favourite but I love it — a friend recommended it to me.
When I read Maggie I’ll say you introduced me to her and that’s cool. And about V.E Schwad… I’m afraid of reading her. She writes adult and if I actually have to wait until I’m an adult, it would take so many years… I didn’t like Aristotle and Dante, it’s a truce bc you liked the Shadowhunters movie. Aaaaaaand To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before IS THE BEST THING IN LIFE. It makes me hungry buut IT’S AWESOME AND I LOVE LARA JEAN. I wanna read the last book NOOOOWW.
Ha! I’m the same with Cinder! I DNF’d it until my sister hit me with it to keep going (but the first chapter did nothing for me?!) I thiiiink an older sister got me onto The Hunger Games actually. (Ugh here I go, actually admitting my sisters can be useful.)
Oh I don’t think you’d have trouble with Schwab’s books t hough! This Savage Song, for instance, is YA (the narrators are only 16) and ADSOM might feel adult depending on how old you are😂 But the characters are only in their early twenties and it reads a lot like YA.
I LOVE LARA JEAN TOO.
WOW! IS IT CRAZY that I have NEVER read any of the books on this list?? I’ve EYED Maggie Stievater, but I’ve never actually picked up one of her books before. Hoping to fix that this year, I’m trying to read more diversely and not just stick with one author. Oh well, I guess I’ll let you know if that plan actually pans out. (It tends to not but…)
Duuude, c’mon on I sit here yelling about Maggie Stiefvater all the tiiime.😂You must read one someday!!
I met my new fav author (Maggie Stiefvater) by reading my new favourite blog (PaperFury) 🙂
This is the most excellent news.😂😂
psshhhhhhhhhh cait I can’t even decide why my favorite books are how do you expect me to remember how I met them? A lot of my favorite, FAVORITE books are from Sonlight, a book curriculum for homeschoolers, that is basically all book based (where my entire love of books comes from, pretty much), and some are ones that people have recommended to me, and some are classics? I DONT KNOW
Come on, we all know I’m here to write stressful posts. THAT’S MY JOB.😂😂 And omg!! SONLIGH!! I DID SONLIGHT, HANNE, CAN I COME SAND STAND NEXT TO YOU. DID YOU READ THE SHERWOOD RING?!? AND THE BRONZE BOW?!? AND JOHNNY TREMAIN?!? I LOVE THOSE SO MUCH.
I SHOULD HAVE CALLED IT. NEARLY ALL HUGE BOOK PEOPLE I’VE MET HAVE DONE SONLIGHT AT SOME POINT.
Yes!! I actually just reread The Sherwood Ring a couple weeks ago!! And I’ve read The Bronze Bow and Johnny Tremain (multiple times, because of younger sibings) too!!
SONLIGHT IS THE ACTUAL BEST. SCHOOL INVOLVED READING. I MEAN??? HOW MUCH BETTER CAN LIFE GET. afkdsjald there are so many good books in there. I have all these nostalgia feels now.😂
This is such a cool post idea.
I only read Aristotle and Dante because this book was all over the internet and I don’t regret my decision because this book introduced me to some other really great books.
And gosh I want to read Simon vs. so bad. Hopefully I get a chance to read it this year *nudges Mom*
omg Ari & Dante was adorable and wonderful. <3 I'm so glad the internet is here to yell recs at us!! (And yesss read Simon Vs! The movie is out like next week too I think.😂)
I know. I don’t know what I am doing with my life. I really should read it as soon as possible.
Okay so most of my favorite books I met through what is called Reading Classics. Its a list of books and you read them and then they have a competition. You are on a team and its really competitive. And then they ask you questions about the book and you rack your brain and try to remember that tiny detail of how much money did that one kid have for lunch and its like 7 billion panic attacks going on at once but its sooo amazing. Most of my favorites I got from reading those. And it’s great.
Okay that sounds like a LOT of fun!! There’s nothing like competitions to get you reading right?!
I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only one who can’t flip pancakes! I just normally wind up flipping them off of the little griddle and having to clean the gross batter off of the counter (ew).
I’ve discovered a lot of my favorite books through my cousin, who very generously loans me books that she hasn’t even read yet and then I get hooked. Hence why I have no money anymore.
I do read books just to see what all the hype is about. And then normally regret it.
This is 100% of the reason why I go for making waffles instead.😂If you have a waffle-maker — BOOM. Both sides cooked at once and life is so much simpler. Honestly the less I have to do to make something cook, the better it actually turns out.
Aww nooo. I usually like hyped books, although not always.😂
Okay I can’t cook waffles either so… you are one level above me 😂 I can’t take pizzas out of ovens, I can’t cook without a box… I’m a mess.
A couple of these are on my TBR list, and I’m excited! Maybe they’ll be the one for me, too? Although, now that I type that, it sounds more like polygamy…
I’ve totally read books to see what the fuss is about, but more often than not, it doesn’t end well. Sure, I like *some* books that are really popular, but generally not often mainstream popular.
Although, Harry Potter is a fun meet-cute. My aunt actually bought me the book when it first came out and wasn’t so huge. I’d never heard of it and read the first chapter and was like, yeah, great, I don’t really care. It’s boring. But she had read it and loved it and kept pushing me to read it, and since I, you know, kind of liked her, I did. And I LOVED it. So then, that was our thing. Every time a book came out, my aunt would go buy it at midnight, read it the next day, and give it to me to devour the day after that. When the movies came out, she always took me to see them for my birthday. So that’s probably my favorite meet-cute for a book I really liked, I guess?
There’s nothing wrong with a little book polygamy now is there?😂 But hey that’s ok if you don’t usually like the mainstream books! I’m really lucky I do for tons of them.😂Minus Red Queen and Throne of Glass lmao.
omggg I love your Harry Potter meeting story! THAT’S SO CUTE. Go aunts who won’t let you stop reading!😂
This is so FUN! It’s so funny because I remember how I “met” certain books too! A lot of mine were from that “what to read after The Hunger Games” list too- what exactly does The Scorpio Races have to do with THG? Competition maybe? Or um… no actually that’s all I’ve got. I love how many other people are usually to blame for books that destroy us too! I got The Foxhole Court from a blogger basically begging everyone to read it. I bet it was the same person. Was it Bee? I feel like it was Bee…
And honestly, I think I ALWAYS read books just to see what the fuss is about 😀
Omg you were all over that list too?! YAY.😂 We were both so desperate haha. And omg The Scorpio Races has NOTHING to do with THG. It’s not even dystopian and there’s no like survival scenes…I just??? Someone was pulling books off a shelf when they made that list.😂
ohh, I don’t think it was Bee? I think she’s only reading it now.😂I’m 90% sure mine was Adaline (I’m having a mental blank on her blog name…Not Gary Cooper I think?! I HAVE SUCH A BAD MEMORY I HATE ME).😂
I’m so glad I convinced you to read Simon!
The Scorpio Races and Vicious were my firsts as well. TSR is still my favorite Stiefvater book!
Honestly you’ve convinced me to read many many books.😂Whatever would I do without you haha.
The feeling is mutual! <3
HhHAHAHA this post ”I’m 15% sure ” I just cracked there and you got me cuz this is how I feel most of the time for everything!!
Cait I just realized that our tastes are like 90% similar and this is the reason why most of the books that have become a favourites have been seen in your blog and I was like ME HAS TO READ IT!
I 100% support you for Simon!! I read The upside of unrequited first and LOOOVED IT and just a few days ago read Simon and was an insta love for me. Becky has become one of my fave authors. I also loove Maggie I read Shiver years ago and it was just a mutual understanding, there is something in the way she writes that rubs me on all the right places (hope this does not sounds too weirs o.o)
Speaking of Schwab I need to finish The darker shade of magic trilogy and read her other books!!
I have made a mental note to find Charm and Strange and ready sounds right up my alley.
<3
First off: YAY I MADE YOU LAUGH.😂 (My goals honestly, is to make people laugh.) And secondly: YAY WE BOTH HAVE GOOD TASTE IN BOOKS. Clearly!! And omg Becky Albertalli is like the sweetest ever person on twitter and Maggie Steifvater is terrifyingly badass. Which shows my author heroes are very diverse.😂And yesss I think you’ll love Schwab if we agree on so many of these other ones!
Of course it would have involved Maggie Stiefvater! It was the first thing I thought about when I read the title :’)
BUT OF COURSE. We could expect nothing less from me.😂
I thought the City of Bones movie was good as well! Way better than the TV show (even thought I still watch it haha)
YAS I’M SO HAPPY YOU AGREE! *hi fives* I kind of want to watch the TV show but I also don’t.😭😂
I read this post so long ago and just noticed that I didn’t tell you that I basically met so many great books from your blog lol.
Like I met the Raven Cycle, This Savage Song, and The Cruel Prince from your blog, and I’m soooooooo grateful.
Oooh and I remember how I saw one of my friend reading Legend (by Marie Lu) in 7th grade and then The Young Elites, so I also read them, and they both turned out to be favourites!! I really want to reread them now though, because it’s been sO LONG.
Ps- I keep on looking at your new goodreads profile picture and not recognizing that it’s you oops lolol.
Omgggg I’m just going to sit here feeling super pleased that I introduced you to THE SIMPLY GREATEST BOOKS EVER. *beams happily*
(And I’m so sorry about the Goodreads. 😭😭I wish I’d thought to like start changing things slowly so I didn’t do the profile/photo change both at once?! I’m sure most people don’t even know who I am now!)
My most memorable book meet cute was with “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Mark Haddon. Our story went like this: My sister was scrolling through pretty book photos in IG and I am looking over her shoulder, because unlike most people in the free world, I do not have my own Instagram account. Woe is me, I am uncivilized like that.
So there was this cute white poofy puppy in a photo beside the said book with a dog and a long title and we “ooohed” and “aaahhed” on how cute the puppy was in the photo and the next minute I know I’m in a bookstore buying a copy and going home and whizzing through the pages. I was in a sort of a trance, that cute puppy on Instagram hypnotized me to buy and read the book. It turns out that I loved the book, eventhough the titular dog actually died. And it’s the book that made me start book blogging. True story, I swear, my very first blog post is a review of the said book with a dog and a long title. End of my weird meet cute but totally fantastical love story with a book with a dog and a long title.
THIS IS THE BEST MEET CUTE EVER! I mean, dogs should truly bring us together with books. :’) I also really love The Curious Incident (although sadness for the poor dog in it).
I fell in love with TMI the exact same way. I watched the movie (loved it too) and wanted to then read the books.😂😂😍😍
Omg WE ARE THE SAME. I LOVE IT!!
Cait, this is such a fun and original idea! I have to be honest, I meet most of my favourite books through Goodreads because BORING. Or because you post another one of your “LET’S TOPPLE YOUR TBR HAHAHA” posts and I end up adding all of them to my shelves. Thanks for that, by the way. Other times, I’ll find books on Twitter or blogs. So… online. Who goes outside anyway? PFFFT.
Aww thanks, Inge! It was so fun to write haha and also I’m so proud of me actually remembering things?! That’s the real miracle here.😂
