Paper Fury

How To Be the Ultimate TFIOS Fan

8th Jun 2014 by Cait @ Paper Fury 55 Comments (0)

Unless you’re living with zero knowledge of DFTBA in your life, you’ll know The Fault in Our Stars movie has hit cinemas. Although I would like to point out that, Australia got it first! HA. Come on, let me be happy! We got Divergent three whole weeks later than America. Still furious about that, by the way.

Nerdfighters have literally taken of the world right now. If you don’t believe me, just google “tfios” and you’ll be flooded. To some grumpy people, this is clearly over the top. There is The Fault In Our Stars items EVERYWHERE. Fans are up in full force, and there are a lot of them. We’re talking 200,000 Nerdfighters PLUS. And that’s just people in Internet World.

It’s intense, no denying it! But I find it incredibly cool.

Also intimidating. But mostly cool.

So! If you’re going to the see The Fault in Our Stars movie and you want to go in Ultimate Fan Mode — I can help.

Nothing says “I am obsessed” like showing up at the cinemas in full TFIOS garments. I’m not talking about the cute shirt. Come on people! Get your fandom into gear! You need a shirt, pants, shoes, jumper, and hat. Oh, and fingerless gloves. Just because.

No, I didn’t google TFIOS underwear. I didn’t want to know.

I’m not saying wear them all at once…unless you want to? You’ll be an AWESOME fan!
Don’t forget your TFIOS bag and iPhone case!

Cake is the answer to most things, so I’m hugely happy there’s a TFIOS cupcakes.

Do NOT forget your TFIOS mug. I actually have a slight infatuation with nerdy mugs (as you might remember from previous TTT posts). I would happily own one of these. Or all of them. My favourite is a toss between “Coffee? Coffee” and the “Pedophilic Swing Set”.

Let’s put some coffee in that mug, then!

I’m glad you agree. Always say okay to coffee.

Let’s just start with the walls.

I’m slightly disappointed because I googled “TFIOS curtains” and didn’t find any. Bathmat? Nope. Bedding? No.

Lucky for us, there IS a TFIOS chair. Sort of.

And notebooks and journals. These are important. You can take note of your tears and analyse them.

Like a…sane person.

I confess! I own none of these fabulous TFIOS fandom features. But I do own the book. It’s not a special edition or even the movie-cover tie-in. It’s just the book. I really like it.

Although I wouldn’t knock that delicious metallic cover on the end. If it happened to fall into my lap, you know?

It seems a little obsessive, doesn’t it? This is probably the part where I should rant about people jumping in on the marketing ploy and ruining the simplicity of it just being “a good story” or how people are just plain crazy.

But you know? It’s over-the-top, but it’s not bad! There’s a little bit of fandom to suit anyone! I’d be happy with the shoes and mugs, and I mean really happy…but I wouldn’t wear an Okay-Okay necklace. I’m glad there’s options.

I also think it’s intensely amazing that one book has ignited hundreds of thousands of people’s passion. Sure, there are people out there who only care about making TFIOS notebooks because it’ll sell well. But there are also people who are very passionate about being a Nerdfighter and Decreasing World Suck and just reading, because reading makes you a better person.

I refuse to judge an enthusiastic fandom.

But, um, I admit…I did google TFIOS underwear….

It exists.

have you seen the TFIOS movie? are you going to?!! do you own any fandomy things? (did i miss any?) do you think huge fandoms like these are obsessive or do you admire their passion?

Cait read The Fault in our Stars a few years ago, but plans to reread it before she sees the movie. She probably won’t see the movie for another 2 weeks…then Mime will be on school holidays and they’ll brave the cinemas together! Cait is freakishly excited. Don’t worry! She hides it well! (Right?!)

I do plan on seeing the film, of course I do, it's a must! But I don't own anything TFIOS related. We just don't have the money, and when we do, I'd rather get a bigger bookcase, or more books for that matter, or more food. Maybe I'm just an eating, reading machine don't have a collection obsessed heart in me, or maybe I'm a cheap ass, you knows eh? But some of that stuff is gorgeous! I know the necklace would be beautiful and the mugs and notebooks, they'd be nice, small things that I'd own, but nothing big, or obsessive πŸ˜‰

You and me both then… well, except I own the book now! Which I'm hugely happy about. x) I probably won't see it for 2 weeks or so, but eeeeh, I can't WAIT. I don't spend a lot of money on Things either, though I would if I HAD the money. (I'm a cheapskate myself, really.) The muuuuugs, though…

Enough with the 'Okay? Okay.'s Okay??! xD I may be one of those [grumpy! Never!] people who get a bit annoyed at the in-your-face-ness of fandoms. Then again, I have the emotional inability to fan-girl, so it's difficult for me to relate to possible epicness πŸ˜›

The film isn't out yet here! ): I will go see it when it's out. But this was an awesome post! Those fingerless gloves are kinda super cute, and those shoes are great! I don't own any TFIOS things, and I wouldn't really want to, but I'm always happy to see so much fandom love. I really admire the passion and creativity of fans. When I was younger I used to always want to buy lots and lots of fannish merchandise for the stuff that I was a fan of. Now I'm less of a wild fangirl. I think it's enough for me to flail about things on the Internet without breaking my wallet, haha.

Great post! Made me want to google TFIOS underwear though, and I'm not sure that's going to end well… I'm not usually one for buying tie-in merchandise, mainly because I'll use it once and then never look at it again, but those phone covers and mugs are actually quite cool – I'm particularly tempted with the mugs. I love my tea, so I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it, which helps me to justify the purchase… As for TFIOS, I too only have the book and it's not some special edition or movie tie-in (I actually can't stand movie tie-in covers). I'm dying to see the film but I have NO IDEA when I'll get there. I'd rather see it in a cinema in Melbourne, because I'm not a huge fan of my local cinema (bad quality), but I'm not going back for another three weeks. I don't think I can wait that long! Also, I only have one friend who's read the book (what's up with that?!) and ideally I'd like to see it with her, but she's also in Melbourne…

Must…not…google TFIOS underwear…Phew. Got that over with. Anyway, that is some COOL fandom stuff! I NEED ALL OF IT. Honestly, though, the hype has started to get to even ME. And TFIOS is my favourite book ever (besides Harry Potter, which is assumed). When I saw it again at the movies today, the girls behind me would not shut up. Grr. Very annoying. But I love Nerdfighters in general, because they are made of awesome πŸ™‚

Like wow. I do want TFIOS T-shirts (probably from Hot Topic), but THOSE MUGS. I WANT. And I wouldn't mind TFIOS underwear. I mean why not. I'll find the money for all of this somehow. I'm a weirdo in that I LOVE fandom stuff but I hate displaying fandom stuff in public because I think people will judge me for it. So I have a bunch of Buffy and Firefly and True Blood t-shirts, but I only ever wear them around the house… Anyway, I would recommend rereading TFiOS *AFTER* seeing the movie. Which is what I did, and I'm really glad I did it that way around because there are some things that are in a slightly different order and I think it would have annoyed me to no end if I'd reread the book immediately before seeing the film! Plus, that way it's a pleasant surprise how much of the dialogue was pulled straight from the book.

TFiOS has such a delightful array of covers, including an ORANGE ONE! I have a large amount of copies of that book, actually, especially as I didn't LOVE it when I first read it. I grew to become really fond of it, though, and have a paperback, box-set hardback and the silver edition, which is beautiful.
