With cake and balloons and sprinkles all over the floor, my nephew turned 2. A momentous occasion in our corner of craziness. We opted for a prolonged celebration, starting with a picnic on saturday (which I streamed about here) and ending on tuesday (I told you it was prolonged) with cake.
And today, you see pictures.
Like I said in my stream on sunday, it was a good day.
Then came The Day (Tuesday) and with it cupcake decorating, sprinkles (are they meant to go on the cupcakes?!) jungle cake and…of course…Thomas the Tank Engine! My nephew loves his trains. His grandpa is very proud.
Presents unwrapped, new train track assembled: cake time.
“WOW!” says my nephew.
His mother (our older sister) made the jungle-themed cake and mime and I helped plop icing and drape lolly snakes. And stick in chocolate-chip-posing-as-rocks. And taste-test, because, let’s face it, there’s no use serving something that runs the risk of not tasting good. All was well (thanks to our sacrificial testing), and it tasted delicious.
My nephew sat between mime and I while he ate his cake and icecream. Or rather, his animals ate his cake and icecream. Yes, they’re all cloistered around for the meal.
Here (no, I’m not eating his cake) I am attempting poke some cake in the birthday boy’s mouth — before the animals get it all.
