Tyler Blu Gunderson has lived with his human, Linda, most of his life. He doesn’t even remember his home in Brazil. Why should he? He has everything in Minnesota.
Until one day a bird specialist named Tulio sees Blu and convinces Linda to take him to Rio de Janeiro. Blu is the last male blue macaw left, and the only hope to save the species is for him to meet Jewel, the only other blue macaw.
At the birdlife avery they are captured by smugglers, who plan to sell the rare and valuable birds. Blu and Jewel manage to escape, but what hope does a bird who can’t fly have in the jungle? Especially when he’s chained to another bird?
Their only hope is to find Linda…and in the whole of Rio, how could two birds do that with the Carnival crowding the streets and bird smugglers at their heels?
In My Opinion…
Movie Classification: PG
Company: 20th Century Fox
My Rating: 4 Stars
There were some funny parts to this movie. I thought it was pretty great. It was also a very good watch for younger kids, as well as for older people who can appreciate the humour. The songs and bright colours would easily captivate a young child, just as they did for my nephew.
The story line is good, and fairly realistic. The samba music wasn’t my cup of tea, but the style of movie needed that kind of music. The animation was good. I think, all up, it wasn’t the absolute funniest and greatest animated movie I’ve seen recently, but it was still good, and I would recommend it as a family movie.
