Amy’s dad is going to Canada for two weeks, on a business trip, so she has to stay with her Aunt Caroline, who lives in the outback, near Alice Springs.
The vast interior of Australia is so different from the suburbs of Melbourne, and Amy finds herself in an entirely new culture, with different people — the Aborigines. She makes a friend, Lana, who understands the pain of Amy’s mother’s death like none of her school friends can…
Lana teaches her about the Aboriginal people, and their merry camping trip turns into disaster because a “Kadaitcha“ is seen and the two girls find a sacred Aboriginal site being robbed by a dangerous criminal…
And when the gun is fired at Lana, can Amy help to save a life?

I really enjoyed this book. I could identify with Amy quite often, and the only thing was that I couldn’t understand why she was certain she’d heard her mother in the sacred aboriginal site, where they run from the Kadaitcha.
I thought it was a great book, probably geared to tween girls, and it describes the interior of Australia really well without over-doing it. There are also some very funny parts. All round I think it was a great book.
