I confess to being slightly absent this week, but I have excellent excuses! I was sick and dying with a stomach bug plotting for world domination in a top secret location so therefore I didn’t comment on as many blogs and I replied to our comments veeery slowly. I know, I know. You missed me.
But onward! I’m fiddling with the layout of my Stacking the Shelves posts, beeeecause a) we’re preparing for a template change (exciting!) and b) I like to change things up.
Aaaand, do we have a surprise for you! We’ve filmed a new vlog! Which absolutely terrifies me, but Mime enjoys it. I’m still editing it, but look out for our crazy faces later this week. What crazy faces? Here, let me show you:
In other words, I look absolutely fabulous in Mime’s glasses.
I’m linking up with Tynga’s Reviews for the meme Stacking The Shelves! Basically: you recount books you’ve won/bought/collected this week.
You know when you enter something randomly and accidentally win? I did that. Thanks to HarperCollins AUS, I won this ginormous book Savage Tide by Greg Barron and a DVD of Tom Hanks shooting people (Captain Phillips). Naturally I gave it to my dad. Naturally, my dad has already seen it because he watches ALL THE MOVIES. But, hey Dad, never say I don’t give you things.
Thank you Scholastic AUS for Fire and Flood by Victoria Scott and The Last Thirteen: Nine by James Phelan. Do you know how ridiculously excited I am for Fire and Flood?! Do you know that I JUST WON A JOLLY COPY SO I’M GOING TO HAVE 2 OF THEM??! Gah. Seriously. I long desperately after books or I get two. (But I shouldn’t complain. The second one will make a good giveaway someday, right?) I do not plan to read the next James Phelan book. If you remember my review of the first three books…okay, I feel a brain haemorrhage coming on.
Thanks Emily @ Oh Magic Hour for The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (phewf) by Cathrynne M. Valente. I won this!
And from my awesome local library I have Mind Games by Kiersten White! I’ve already finished this and…it was a bit “meh” in my opinion.
I love reading other blogs and I want to share with you some of my delicious finds of this week across the blogosphere. So go read them. I told you to nicely, so that counts.
Did you know Eleanor & Park is being made into a movie?!!
Jeann @ Happy Indulgence talks about how we bloggers put pressure on ourselves (fabuluos post this).
YA Author, Natalie Whipple @ Between Fact and Fiction gives some super blunt and brilliant advice for authors.
Nara @ Looking for the Panacea explains the difference between genres! Seriously helpful!
Kelsey @ Verbosity Book Reviews warns against dating Book Bloggers.
Emily @ The Loony Teen Writer talks about fandoms! CUE FANGIRLING.
Also, I’ve been interviewed @ Whims and Ramblings of an Arbitrary Lad for World Book Night!
monday – Cait reviews Enmity and there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
wednesday – We both discuss things writers say that aren’t true. Minion gifs apply.
thursday – Mime reviews Fangirl but she doesn’t fangirl that much. Just a little.
friday – We’ve stamped Half Bad with our lavish approval. Go us! Go Half Bad!
saturday – Cait lists 10 authors who can absolutely take all her money.
And have you seen this??! LOOK AT THIS. We will definitely be having some giveaways when we hit 200! Oh gosh, I am so freakishly excited right now!
Awesome haul, and let me just say, Daddy Notebook certainly has the coolness factor. I've been dying to read Fire & Flood as well, need to get through a few more. Is Fairyland the first book in the series? I've got book three, but haven't read the first two yet, looking forward to seeing what you think of it. You both need matching glasses, they look all kinds of awesome, you're both so fresh faced. Cute little pocket sisters πMy latest Stacking the Shelves
N'awww, we're just dang adorable of course. And Daddy Notebook is all sorts of awesome that is for SURE. I have a few more to read before Fire & Flood, too, buuuut, who knows?! I may THROW IT ALL AND READ IT ASAP. And I'm pretty sure Fairyland is the first. It's a series? Gah. Another thing to get hooked on… x)
I just had a read through your things writers say that aren't true–it cracked me up ;)I keep seeing those James Phelan books at Big W. I assumed it'd be another series like Conspiracy 365, so I passed on it. Those books dragged things out for ages.Anyway, here's my Stacking the Shelves if you want to check it out.
Yay!! I'm glad you liked the writers post! (We had a evilly fun time writing it.) And yup, I only read one 365 book and after that….agh. My brain is dying. I read 3 of the Phelan books because I got them for review, buuut, no more. I KNOW I have nothing nice to say. x)
Oooh. Fire & Flood. I'll be interested to see what you think of that one!
You and me both, actually. x) Hehe…
Yay vlog! What did you use to film it?Also, so glad you've read some contemporaries. Everyone knows it's the best genre (I kid, I kid…maybe). I remember your reviews of the Last Thirteen books. No wonder you don't want to read the next one! On another note, I haven't actually heard of Fire and Flood O_O. Am I missing something here??
We used our super professional…iPods. Plus mine died, so we had to employ Mime's which then made our frame look all different aaaand…Total vlog fail. BUT. I will make it work. XDFire & Flood is like…the next Hunger Games. LOL. HA. Ignore that! THAT'S what everyone's saying, but I'm just hoping it's a good book in it's own right. π I'm tired of THG comparisons. *ahem* But apparently it's awesome?! I'm excited. (Contemporaries DO rock.)
Nice haul! I bought Fire and Flood a few weeks back and I'm looking forward to getting it read hopefully over the summer. So many other books to read right now!
I have other books I'm supposed to read before Fire & Flood..buuut, who knows?! I may just jump in and gobble it asap because OMG FIRE AND FLOOD.
ERMAHGERD ELEANOR AND PARK MOVIE! I really really really really hope they do it justice. And they better cast Park with someone who looks good with eyeliner haha
I'm kind of wondering what they're going to fill it up with! I mean it's an AWESOME book, but there's so much thinking… x) Very exciting!
I LOVE contemporary, so I'm loving that list. π I see you got Fire & Flood – yayy!! I so loved that book. π Hope you enjoy your goodies this week!
I'm really curious about The Girl Who Circumnavigated…they sound like a great series; lots of fun!!-Lauren
Great haul! You girls are so freakin cute! I didn't know about Eleanor & Park – uber excited!Missie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
Great haul! I recently acquired Fire and Flood and can't wait to start it, that looks so good. I have yet to read Eleanor & Park, but maybe I should get to it if they are making a movie π I hope you enjoy all of your books.
Ha! Love the glasses switch, and can't wait for the vlog. π
You guys are going to LOVE reading all those books! I'm so envious of the fact that you win so many giveaways! HOW!? *jealous*My Stacking the Shelves
You've got some great titles there…. I'm rather excited for Fire & Flood myself but can't explain quite why except that it sounds cool.I have Mind Games (and Perfect Lies) to read and was quite looking to it forward to it as I loved her Paranormalcy but your 'meh' has me a bit worried. Will you be reviewing it as I'm curious as to what it was that made it 'meh' for you?Oh, and can I say thanks for your visit to my blog and my Half Bad review, it really was lovely to you stop by as I'm an avid follower of your blog and love all your posts!Thea @ Gizzimomo's Book Shelf
I noticed I've been reading quite a bit of contemporary lately, too, but you're right, when you need a fix, you need a fix. π Also, you two are quite adorable. Looking forward to that vlog. =) Hope you enjoy all your new reads…even the ones you unexpectedly won. π
Gersh. Wait one day to comment, and you guys have like a bajillion. You are loved. lol. I like your vlogs. They are funny vlogs! (I semi-quoted. Do you know what I semi-quoted?) I shall await with anticipation. (You make any SPN references? lol!)I love randomly winning giveaways. (except the last one I won, she never sent it out to me. *snifflesob*)
I loved Fire and Flood! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did π Almost 200!! You'll be there before you know it π
I LOOOVVVEEEDDD Fire and Flood, so I can't wait to see what you think of that! I haven't read many of these yet, but I have read Mind Games, which…I sadly didn't really enjoy. But I can't wait to see what you think of these other books! And I'm SUPER excited for that vlog you're making! (*Hint hint!*) I know it's going to be absolutely hilarious! And congrats on almost making 200! You deserve it! <3 (PS Guess who just started Splintered?!?!)
Oh noes! That means… that means I need to read Eleanor and Park soon!!!!
People have been talking so much about Fire & Blood that I really need to buy it at some point. π And congrats on the growing number of followers! Have a great weekend girls!
I'm glad you're feeling better, Cait, and I'm looking forward to your vlog, ladies! Nice haul! Your excitement over Fire & Flood has me interested in reading it now, as previously I'd not heard much about it π
Great haul. I've heard great things about Fire & Flood, enjoy it π My STS
Fantastic haul this week! I can't wait to see your vlog doing sexy funny face π Excited to see your new reviews about the books you just read. Have an awesome weekend, Cait and Mime!
I have SO much love for Catherynne Valente's books… seriously. I listened to them on audio, but I assume they're good just as, ya know, normal books too.Congrats on aaaalmost being at 200 followers but, to be honest, I'm surprised you girls don't have a bazillion followers (ummm, that's totally a number) because you're posts are smart and funny and there needs to be more bloggers like you two! So congrats on being awesome because it's way better than followers anyway.
Thanks for sharing my post Cait, I'm glad you enjoyed it! You do look dashing in Mime's glasses I must say! I got 2 copies of Fire & Flood too, will be having a giveaway tomorrow to share the love! I hope you enjoy and hit your 200 followers mark! (no doubt that you guys will and soon, you are awesome!)Here's my STS this week.
You call missing one day on this blog slightly absent? Hah. Girl, I've definitely been more absent. It's actually really hard to get back into the swing of things for me lol. Oooo, a vlog?? I can't wait to see it c: I've always been tempted to make one but I always wonder if anybody will even watch it/ what to talk about. Haha it's funny that you won a contest you didn't really mean to enter. I feel like the day I finally win a contest, something that would have happened. I'm curious to see what you think of Fire & Flood, I've seen some mixed things about it. I have read and enjoyed Victoria's other work though.
Love your pic and I adore your comment on your books! I need to read Paper Town. That is one of the few book I have not read of JG. Well enjoy your books!OUT's STSLeydy from OUAT & RCE
A new template on here??? Humm… I am excited to see it!! 200 followers! WOOT WOOT! I am sure you guys will surpass that number quickly!
YAYAYAY for almost reaching 200 followers! I received Fire & Blood + The Last 13 as well! SOOO excited to start reading them. And you two look so cute! I can't wait to watch the vlog. <3 Sorry to hear about the stomach bug lovely, I hope you're feeling better now. GET BETTER SOON!
Great haul! I hope you're feeling a bit better, Cait! Of the books mentioned, I've only read Fire & Flood. I enjoyed it, so I hope you'll enjoy it too π
Awww, you guys look super cute in your photo! Thanks for all the links, loved reading those π And yay for books! I don't think I've read any of them yet, but I hope you have a blast with them!Faye at The Social Potato Reviews
I'm seriously excited to start Fire & Flood!
I know, right?! And isn't the title awesome?! (Just kind of exhausting to type all the time…)
N'awww, we're just adorable little popsicles, I know. Eleanor & Park is pretty awesome, right?! Just not sure how well it's going to translate to a movie, though…
Eleanor & Park is veeery different to Fangirl. (I actually wasn't super impressed with it. It was a adorable and all, but I felt a little tiny bit too slow?? Hide me from the Rowell Fans!) x)
Haaaa. Yeah. Me too. -_- *procrastinates editing vlog again*
I SECRETLY RULE THE UNIVERSE. I have these mind powers and people just hand me stuff. It rocks, really.
Seriously, though, the book I won from HarperCollins is HUGE. It's bigger than The Bone Season and that's saying something. 0.0 I kind of look at it and feel very very small….hehe.
I probably won't review Mind Games here, buuut MAYBE I'm getting a review copy of Perfect Lies, so if I do I'll probably do a double review. I enjoyed it, I was just…unimpressed? So sad. :(( I loved the sister stuff, though. That was awesome!
(It's my supernatural mind powers, actually. Everyone is under my control. Mwhaha.) OH MY GOSH. I was about to comment, "No of course we don't have SPN references in there, we wouldn't do that". AND THEN I REMEMBERED. Mime says "Call the Winchesters" at one point. I'm totally leaving that in. XD XD
It's sooo exciting to be nearly at 200!! I mean, it's a little number compared to some of you amazing bloggers but FASLJDK;A!! I'm sooo happy!!
THAT'S WHY I'M SURE I'M GOING TO LOVE IT. Haaaa…see Mind Games was pretty meh for me (should've known). Seriously it's kind of creepy how similar our tastes are. x) BUT SO AWESOME. HOW ARE YOU LIKING SPLINTERED?!!! OMG I DEMAND UPDATES.
Ha! YES. Definitely do before the movie…although I think it's just been optioned, so it'll probably be a loooong time. x)
It's literally everywhere, isn't it?! I like to keep up with the crazes, so I'm pretty keen for this one.
It's going to be a crazy vlog, but we excel in insanity, right? π
I quite enjoyed Paper Towns so looking forward to your thoughts on that one >.<Happy reading, Cait! <33
I LOVED IT. I'm not sure I'll review it here. I'll probably Notebook Sisters Approved it, buuut, I have to decide what to pick on. There was just too much awesome in there. x)
I've heard mixed things, but I have a secret suspicion I'm going to love it!
Har, har, our vlog is going to be interesting, let's just say that. π
OMG I'M SMILING SO BIG RIGHT NOW. XD XD Seriously, MY DAY IS MADE. You're sooo nice!! And bazillion is totally a number. It should be. I use it all the time. (Like "I need a bazillion more hours in my day to read all my books"…that's totally a legit sentence).
It really brings out my blind side, I must admit. Although, gosh, it's like being seasick upside down when wearing them. She is seriously blind.
More like I've-been-absent-on-commenting-on-blogs absent. x) I WOULD WATCH IT. I think vlogs are very scary…but I make sure ours are quite short, because long vlogs scare me. I haven't read ANYTHING from Victoria Scott before, so it's super exciting. Eeep!
I got Paper Towns for Christmas, so it was quite embarrassing that it took me 4 months to read it. Mime forgives me though…I think….
Yesss…I keep finalising it and getting ready to upload and THEN I find something new or want to change something. But I'm pretty sure I'll upload this week. x)
I kind of love how Scholastic does that! I mean, I get to compare thoughts with all my Aussie buddies. It rocks, basically. x)
N'awww, thanks! I blame Mime, because she brings all that sick stuff home from school. *glares quietly at Mime*
Yes, we are quite the Modern Wonders of the Notebook World, don't you think? x)
that's nice I'm curious about some, I hope you'll like them all. happy reading!
I hope I'll like them all too, because let's face it, writing sucky reviews is the worst. x)
Happy reading, girls! All your books look great, especially Fire&Flood *want one too* I read Mind Games last year and gave it 3 stars. Let's just say it wasn't so good as I thought it would be. Hope the second book is better than the first!
I gave it 3-stars too…I just…wanted more?? I'm SUCH a fussy reader, I guess. And also, it was super short. I felt like we were just getting into the story and then BOOM. Finished.
Awesome haul, Cait! And isn't it strange how it's possible to end up reading mostly book outside of your normal go-to-genre for a whole week and be happy anyway? Thanks for stopping by earlier π I hope you gals had a great weekend.Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
*happy sigh* I know, right?! It was kind of relaxing. I'm reading to head back into the action books now, though. XD
Awesome haul! Captain Phillips was surprisingly really good (I had seen Green Zone by the same director and didn't really like it that much so my expectations weren't super high). Thanks for stopping by at my blog earlier π
It's the same director? Oh. I wasn't a fan of Green Zone. I was kind of bored! Buuut, my dad said Captain Phillips is quite good. x)
Oh no! I found Fangirl SUPER slow, so if that's slower than I would probably die trying read it.
Thanks for stopping by my StS. I LOVE your blog – so fun! Did you enjoy Mind Games? Such a weird world & writing but I enjoyed the series.
N'awww, thanks! I thought it was okay…just not astounding, you know? It was a 3-star from me. I'll probably still check out Perfect Lies, though!
Fire & Flood is sooooooo good! I hope you love it! :)Thanks for stopping by my StS.
I can't wait to start it!!
From the looks of things, you've been bitten by the good luck bug lately. How cool is that? I just got the ebook of Fire & Flood with my ebook settlement credit, so I'm glad to see such enthusiasm about it. Thanks for stopping by my StS post. Love the owls, btw. π New follower through Bloglovin'. π
I AM SO HAPPY TO WIN THINGS. It is the best feeling of ever, honestly, it is. x) I'm really keen for Fire & Flood, I'm probably going to just throw everything and read it RIGHT NOW.
Looks like a good haul! I need to get round to reading The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland…
The title is kind of insane, though, right? I LIKE IT.
Loved the whimsical element of The Girl Who… Definitely going to see the Eleanor and Park movie when it's out π
HECK YEAH. Me too. I'm curious as to how they'll make it a movie, I mean….it's a lot of thoughts and feelings more than action/plot, really.
Fire & Flood was awesome! I love Victoria Scott. The rest are either new to me or still sitting on my tbr. Enjoy your books ladies!
I haven't read anything by Victoria Scott yet, sooo, I'm pretty excited!
I'm actually listening to Eleanor & Park right now. Enjoy your books!
It's quite an awesome book…not my absolute favourite, but I did enjoy it!
FIRE AND FLOOD *fangirls so hard she can't function*
*joins in fangirling because HECK YEAH*
I'll be reading Geography in the next few weeks (I hope). Fire and Flood is awesome! Thanks for stopping by and happy reading π
Yaaay! I'm SO excited for Fire & Flood!
Loved Fire and flood and hope you feel better, the stomach bug is the pits
Bleh, yeah, isn't it?! I'm actually surprised I still read 4 books!
Mind Games is such a great read! I really enjoyed it. Fire & Flood also sounds amazing. The idea behind it is so creative, and I'm looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it. I hope you enjoy all of your books π
FIRE & FLOOD was SO SO AMAZING! I'm sure you guys will love it as much as I did! I've had MIND GAMES sitting on my shelf since last year! I really need to get to it!Enjoy all your great books, and thanks for stopping by my STS @ Addicted Readers!
I just finished Paper Towns a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy all your books, and thanks for stopping by my post!
Oh nooooo π I'm so bummed you didn't enjoy Mind Games as much. I thought it was amazing :/ sad face. But I'm totally stoked you won so many giveaways π Happy reading!
Ohh enjoy! I am so excited for Fire & Flood too! The only one I've read of your list is Paper Towns, which I adored. Thanks for stopping by my STS π
Ohh, I enter and win things I didn't really want to win too! Then I get it and I kind of shrug, wondering what to do with it. Passing it on is the best plan. π I'm sad to hear you didn't much like Mind Games. I thought it was kind of fun, but I know a lot of people didn't agree. π Have a great week!!Rachel @ Paper Cuts
Nice haul! I want to read Mind Games, it sounds interesting. Thanks for visiting My Stacking the Shelves
I didn't know Eleanor and Park was being made into a movie until I heard it yesterday. How amazing is that! Your weekly haul looks great. So many people have been talking about Fire and Flood. I hope you enjoy it!
Good lord you guys have a ton of comments on here. I can't wait for the vlog!!! Also, I really like how you did the picture with everything you got this week. You're basically telling me all I need to know about each book is 4 words, perfect! READ FIRE & FLOOD ASAP. Also, I have MIND GAMES but still haven't read it. Heard it's very meh.
Congratulations on all your books!
Sad to hear about Mind Games. Finding a good scary book is hard π
