So maybe I did accidentally go to the library. But I’m working my way through my unruly stack with such speed I thought I deserved a reward. (Basically: more books.)
Happy middle of the year, also! Since Mime is on school holidays, I’m taking a small break from All Things Writing. Which, naturally, has lead me to plotting an epic fantasy series that I’m bribing myself to ignore. I don’t need more book ideas. I do not. But since she will be at Youth Orchestra this week…maybe I could make a Pinterest board for this weed book idea. Maybe. That’s not giving in, right?
I’m linking up with Tynga’s Reviews for the meme Stacking The Shelves! And also Caffeinated Book Reviewer for Sunday Post! Basically: you recount books you’ve won/bought/collected this week.
Thanks Text for The Astrologer’s Daughter. This was a complete surprise. Probably not something I’d pick per se, but I’m going in with an open mind.
Thanks Hatchette Australia for The Young World and The Seventh Miss Hatfield. I specifically requested The Young World and OMG I GOT IT. Excuse me, I need to flail for a while. Some apocalyptic action that’s already optioned for movie rights (because the writers is also a film director)?? Yes please. Miss Hatfield was a surprise. Buuut, it’s a teen author and I’m interested.
From my library (yeah, yeah, I said I wasn’t going to the library BUT I LIED, OKAY?) I borrowed Shiver (which will be a reread in preparation for the awesome that is Sinner) and The Maze Runner (because MOVIE) and It’s Kind of a Funny Story (because Emily raved about it and I’m peer pressured that way…I also didn’t realise this one is a movie! It looks awesome).

Taken: A complete and utter DISAPPOINTMENT. [2-stars]

Butter: Not really sure what the point was… [3-stars]

Zoe @ The Infinite To-Read Shelf and I did a book swap review of A Mad, Wicked Folly. I‘m at her blog here. And she’s at my blog here. Awesome, right?!
I don’t usually have room to post all reviews on the blog…so I want to know what YOU want me to post about. Plus: deciding what to read is hard. You do the dirty work. That’s what you’re here for.

Ooh, you had me at apocalyptic. I waaaaant it! Is that one out yet? There doesn't seem to be many apocalyptic YA releases any more, trends seem to have gone back to paranormal and contemporaries again. Which sucks for someone like myself, who loves dystopian and post apocalyptic.I'm just here for the Mary Poppins singalong tonight. Looks like I'm early. I'll just wait over there *points* and eat the chocolate stash I found.http://www.divabooknerd.com/2014/07/stacking-shelves-and-weekly-wrap-028.html I'm too lazy to put in proper links.
Ohhhhhh… I'M NUMBER ONE, I'M NUMBER ONE. I've never been the first comment, usually someone always sneaks in first.I'd like to start by thanking the academy, those dreamy Hemsworth brothers, the little man in my fridge that turns the light on for me, without him I couldn't snack at night… Oh, I'm.getting the windup? Hey, stop shoving me off my platform. Aww, where you going… I brought that platform with me…
LOOK AT YOU! NUMBER #1!! You definitely get a prize. A cookie perhaps. Or maybe a sticker shaped like the Moth's head. That would be adorable. You could wear it proudly. The Young World comes out the end of July. I'm freakishly excited because I LOVE that kind of books and there's never enough good ones. Providing this one is good. But it looks good. I'll just go ahead and judge it off looks. *shoves off dreamy-Hemsworth-built platform*
I think I was looking curiously at The Astrologer's Daughter earlier this week. But apart from anything else, titles like "The ____'s Daughter" are starting to drive me nuts, haha. Hope you enjoy the new books! My StS.
Hehe…I know…the whole "Daughter" thing is quite popular, right? I know The Tyrant's Daughter and The Shamer's daughter and The Madman's Daughter….just off the top of my head!
Cait, you are both a book reading and a book writing machine! How many books do you plot/write per year? Hmmmmm…an epic fantasy series? It already sounds interesting. You're a fan of Tintin? Me too! It's basically the only graphic novel that I can read and still be interested in. Although my dad recently introduced me to the Asterix series, which are a series of old graphic novels that are also quite funny. Neither Tintin or Asterix is very popular in the United States, though. *sigh* Tintin deserves more. I'd like to see a review of It's Kind of a Funny Story. For some reason, I'm reading a bunch of memoirs and biographies this summer, and they're pretty interesting. No Stacking the Shelves post for me yet. There might be one coming. However, I just moved to WordPress and I had to copy and paste every single thing on my old blog, as well as reformat it, so my brain is exhausted.
Oh wow. It's amazing how when I started writing my comment, there were no comments on this post and when I actually published my comment there were already three comments posted.
I was always obsessed with Tintin when I was little. My brother and I used to binge-read the comics in the holidays. He progressed to Astrix but I just kept rereading Tintin. x)Ehh, well, compared to last year (I wrote like 5 books last year) I've been quite slack. I've rewritten/edited 2 and drafted 2. And read 112 books. I KNOW. I KNOW. IT'S A LITTLE INSANE. BUT WHO NEEDS SLEEP RIGHT???
Mehehe, I voted for the Young World. I'm interested in knowing your take on it. I already read it and I found it okay, but not exactly original, but then again, things like that are pretty subjective so I WANNA KNOW YOUR OPINION. Calling other commenters, please vote for The Young World kplztnxbai! Haha. And thank you for featuring my Tintin post! *huggles you*Faye at The Social Potato
Eh, not original? Dang it. I'm hoping for a mind blowing read. x) I will definitely be reviewing it on here since it's an ARC. XD
Awesome haul! I'm excited for The Young World! Shiver is um….hehehe you know what I mean.http://www.lite-rate-ture.com/2014/07/stacking-the-shelves-june-to-a-bit-of-july-books-edition/
I LOVE SHIVER. I love the whole trilogy. Particularly Isabel and Cole, but Sam and Grace are pretty awesome too. x)
Amazing haul! I really want to read Shiver. I haven't read anything by Maggie Stiefvater. Shocking, I know!
WHAT. This you need to remedy.
Such a shame about TAKEN. The cover is so pretty (I know, I know, I'm so shallow). As I've banned myself from borrowing/buying books for awhile, I will have to be content with looking through other people's blogs for books. Ahah.I personally found THE MAZE RUNNER to be a bit of a disappointment however I know people who absolutely love that one. (And even though I didn't really like the book, the movie looks awesome.) Speaking of dystopian/sci fi… so excited for THE YOUNG WORLD. It looks really great, that one, though I find that the majority of sci fi or dystopia I read lately seems to disappoint. O.o Great collection of books! 🙂
Hey, no one is shallower about cover love then me. *sigh* I didn't have unbelievable expectations for it, but I thought I'd like it. You know…awesome dystopian stuff. But NOPE. I'm reeeeally keen for The Maze Runner mostly because it's freakishly famous, and a little bit because of the movie. Hehe. Who am I kidding? A LOT BECAUSE OF THE MOVIE.
IGNORE THE POLL. YOU MUST READ IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY NEXT. (also, it's positive peer pressure, so get that into your brain)Isn't Text lovely with their surprises? And I've heard The Maze Runner's good too. Although that's coming from my sister so who knows how reliable it is. Happy reading 😀
*salutes* OKAY THEN. I KNOW MY PLACE. *snatches for IKoaFS off the shelf*Text always has awesome covers so I'm pretty happy with their surprise packages. x) I loooove the purple. I don't even think I own any purple books.
I might be tempted to read Shiver this week then since you want to re-read it, be interesting to see what I think of it. I love all your library hauls though, YOU MUST CONTINUE DOING IT, I know it's bad for you, but it's great for us! Also, write that story 😉
Ooh, you're going to read it? YEAH! I'm rereading it so I already know I like it, buuuut, I'm keen to see if my opinion has changed. HEY. YOU'RE NOT HELPING ME. I MUST STOP GOING TO THE LIBRARY NOT BE ENCOURAGED TO. *slinks off to library anyway*
I'm very very curious about The Young World especially since the author directs movies or something! Hopefully,it will be awesome. I need to re-read Shiver too in preparation for Sinner and finish up that series.Enjoy your lovely reads! 🙂
I think that's super cool that The Young World is ALREADY going to be a movie. x) I hope it's really really awesome.
Okay, if you're taking votes, start with It's Kind of a Funny Story! 🙂 Great book, good movie (though the book is way better). But The Maze Runner? Blah. 😛 Although a lot of people like it, so it could just be me.
Isn't the book almost always better? 😉 Weell…except for Mary Poppins, but I digress. Oooh, don't tell me that about the Maze Runner! >-< lol
I liked The Maze Runner although I did not really like the other two. I did not know that there was a movie coming out so I need to see that! The Young World sounds like an awesome read and I need to pick that up soon. Great haul and happy reading!
I'm hopeless with finishing series/trilogies so I'm at least starting with book #1, hehe.
Dude…I'm SOOOO jealous you got a copy of The Young World! Definitely an anticipated read for me! 🙂 I'm interested in seeing what you think of it, since I know you love Gone, and this seems to have a similar premise. And The Maze Runner! This definitely reminded me of Divergent in some ways when I read it forever ago, so I wonder what your take will be on it. Maybe we could discuss it when you finish it on Twitter or whatnot? Thanks for sharing, and, as always, great haul! <3P.S. Guess who somehow got an ARC of Heir of Fire?!?!
REALLY? AWESOME. MWHAHA. I GET TO READ IT FIRST. *dances* And yes, that's exactly what I thought! Gone = love. The Young World = probably love? Hehe. OH yes please! I'll tweet you when I finish it. What did you rate it? Ooh, wait, don't tell me. Lemme read it and then I'll search it on Goodreads. x)OMG. YOU HAVE HEIR OF FIRE???? *flails* GO YOU!!!!!!
Great notes as always 😀 I think I rather like apocalyptic drama, will have to check that one out sometime soon 😉 My new pretties 🙂
I love the end of the world, all that pain and drama, awesome in a book.
What a fab week! Really hope you enjoy all your new reads 🙂
I most likely will. Unless they're all complete duds, but what's the odds?
Great haul this week! I am glad you lied and went to the library anyway, they need the issues 😉 I have been wanting to read It's Kind of a Funny Story for so long now. I saw the movie, not knowing it was based on a book, and really enjoyed it. I also really need to hurry up and read The Maze Runner, especially with the movie coming out soon.
I'm a glorious liar. It's like being Loki, but with books instead of the world. I had zero idea It's Kind of a Funny Story was a movie! I just randomly saw it when I was googling…something. And now I want to kind of co-read-watch them and compare. x)
Great haul!! I've been wanting to read The Young World for a while!I hope you enjoy them all! Here's my STS:http://addictreaders.blogspot.com/2014/07/stacking-shelves-63.html
So have I. freakishly glad to get it in the mail. x)
Your stack graphic made me laugh. I loved the captions. It's Kind of a Funny Story has been on my TBR forever. Maybe I'll get around to it one of these days. 🙂 An Abundance of Katherines has been there for a long time, too. I need to get to it sooner rather than later. I'm glad to see you enjoyed it.I hope you enjoy your new additions! My StS!
An Abundance of Katherines wasn't as good as the others, I don't think. *sigh* BUT I STILL LIKED IT. I might just be slightly biased and prone to rate all things John Green high though. 😉
Wow that is the most beat up cover of Shiver ever perhaps. Enjoy! And yes – looks like Maze Runner is in the lead =P
I know right? Someone at the library loved it. x) I'm pretty impressed with The Maze Runner and It's Kind of a Funny Story though, because I swear they're brand new. AND I'M THE FIRST TO READ THEM! HA.
Some awesome looking titles there, the astrologer's daughter looks fascinating and I have heard goof things about the mazerunner ( and yeah, movie 😛 ) Thanks so much for visiting my blog.Have a great week and happy reading 🙂
"Accidentally?" Yeah okay I believe that 😉 You're so lucky that you got The Young World! There was a sampler in the bookstore when I was there today; can't wait to read that and see if it's as good as I'm hoping.
I'm not really sure what Maze Runner is about, but I've seen it everywhere and wonder what it's about. It's Kind of a Funny Story, that is an awesome title! I'm beginning to think I like long titles.
Ooh The Young World and Shiver are both on my TBR! Hope they are good. Sorry you didn't care for Taken. It is on my to-read list. Hope this new batch is better that last weeks reads. Happy Reading! Here are my newest additions.
Heard great things about Shiver.
I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever get round to reading The Maze Runner series. It has been sitting on my shelves for so long. Mind you most of my books have been sitting there for ages…happy reading!
Ooh, the movie has the most epic cast. *swoons quietly* BUT I'M READING IT FOR OTHER REAONS TOO. Like…you know…reasons. x)
I swear it WAS an accident! I was just minding my own business and then POOF I was suddenly at the library being forced to borrow books and it was terrible yet wonderful and I just caved and borrowed 3.
I LOVE the title of it too! I've had enough of seeing Maze Runner everywhere and not knowing what it's about. I must know all the things. Yes. *nods*
I'm very sad about Taken. Hopefully The Young World will make up for it. 😉
I've read great things in Shiver.
A lot of my books that I own (as opposed to receive for review or borrow from the library) just sit there for ages. They're just not top priority! Which sucks. I've had Wicked since January and STILL haven't read it despite really really wanting to.
I really love the cover for A Mad Wicked Folly. And it sounds pretty good too! Thanks for stopping by at my blog earlier 🙂
It is good. Wonderfully good. Artistically good.
Great haul this week! I've heard great things about Shiver and The Maze Runner, I really should get around to reading them… I'm such a slacker, there was a really big chunk of time where I wasn't reading AT ALL (I'm talking years) and now I just feel like I'm playing catch up all the time. Between all the great books released during that period (duh, they're not just going to stop releasing books because I've stopped reading! So self-absorbed Bernadette…) and all the great books they keep releasing (what's up with that!) I'm never going to catch up 🙂
I only have been reading seriously for 2 years, so…I feel incredibly behind too. I NEED TO HAVE READ ALL THE THINGS. I want to read new books, but I also want to know what the fuss is about the old ones…like The Maze Runner.
The young world looks interesting! Happy reading 😀Mel@thedailyprophecy
Heck yeah it does. I'M EXCITED.
I don’t read any YA these days. My blog tends to steamier stuff. But thanks for the link to Giselle’s blog. Even experienced bloggers can use her ideas!
I don't read any YA these days. My blog tends to steamier stuff. But thanks for the link to Giselle's blog. Even experienced bloggers can use her ideas!
Oh, well, fair enough! I love Giselle's advice too! Epic for all bloggers!
I'm not so silently judging you for having not read The Maze Runner yet, it's one of my favourite books! I've been waiting for the movie since the book was released, I almost can't believe it's going to happen. And I love the cast and the set and just everything… *spins*Under The Mountain's STS
HEY. I've read a lot of books this year, okay? I'm trying to read them all! I'm trying! I am! The cast…the cast is very very awesome. But totally not the reason I'm interested in the book and movie, no no.
I read and enjoyed The Fault In Our Stars…and downloaded Paper Towns, which I haven't read yet. I am worried that I won't like his other books as much as TFIOS. So I'll be watching for your review of An Abundance of Katherines. Going to check it out now. Thanks for visiting my blog. Have a great week!
I haven't like any of his other books as MUCH as I love TFIOS…but I still adore them. They've all been 4-5 star reads for me. Though Katherines is probably the bottom end of the scale
Loved the post about Mean Characters! :)I actually have An Abundance of Katherines on my to-be-read stack. I found a copy at our local Half Price Books recently. Have a great week!Terri M.Second Run Reviews
Eeeh, thanks, Terri! I had a bit of fun with that one. 😉
I am interested to see what you think of Shiver, I have enjoyed Maggie's other works. I really need to read Mad, Wicked Folly too!Missie @ A Flurry of Ponderings
I LOVE Shiver. It's a reread for me.
Well how else would you reward yourself for getting through a stack of books? Looks like you got some great books. I'm curious about the Maze Runner since I've heard so much about it. I also am tempted to read An Abundance of Katherines but that's mostly because of the name! Have a great week!
Exactly. Books call for more books.
Thanks for stopping by my post. Looks like you got some great books. I actually went to look up Anna's as it's always awesome to find teen authors. I hope you enjoy them all! 🙂
I know, right?! I love reading teen authors!
I read The Young World recently, and I liked it. Definitely lots of fun apocalyptic-ness going on in it. I had no idea that it was going to be a film though!THE MAZE RUNNER!! I loved the first book in the series. I got very confused at times though, but in a good way. I hope you enjoy it!
Ooh, awesome!! I'm glad you liked it…because I'm SO excited and I don't want to be let down. Haha! I'm pretty keen for TMR too. It's like all apocalypse and dystopian for me this week.
I couldn't really stand the Maze Runner, so I'll be interested in what you think about it. Though the movie does look good. You need to get an instagram account. I always love how you post the picture of your book haul each week!
Oh no! >_< But that's okay! I <i> think it's very my style, but I hope I don't get confused. Don't tempt me!! I think I do really want an instagram…
Nice haul this week. I hope you enjoy your new reads. Oh and 'hi' from another Aussie Blogger.Have a great week.Sharon @ Sharon's Book Nook!
*waves* OMG ANOTHER AUSSIE!!! We are like the minority so we must band together. Hehe. xD
Oh great haul this week. I need to read A Mad Wicked Folly soon, glad to see you enjoyed it! Thanks for the links to the other bloggers, will definitely be checking at least a few 😉 Hope you have an awesome week!PS. Here's my Sunday Post/STS if you're interested!
It was really good…so happy at the end too. And I hardly ever read happy books so it was a nice change for me!! XD
Rebecca Lim's new book isn't something I would have picked either as I wasn't a fan of her previous series, but I'm always willing to give an Aussie author another go! And yes, bring on Sinner! Mands @ The Bookish Manicurist
Oh? I hadn't even heard of her before! It was a surprise ARC so I'm willing! 🙂 OMG SINNER!!! *flails*
You picked up a great stack of books from the library! I've been wanting to check out It's Funny Kind of Story for a while now, but I haven't had the chance. Thank you for dropping by my blog!
Same! My library actually just bought it, so it's a completely new copy I get to read too. 🙂 I'm excited!
Ooo YES a reread of Shiver is a great I idea, I must do that too before I read Sinner!! I haven't read The Maze Runner yet, but after seeing the movie trailer it's been bumped up my TBR! The Young World looks pretty awesome too, I love the type on the cover! Happy reading 🙂
That's how I was with TMR too!! All this movie hype? I wants in. XD
I went to the library too but I was too lazy to post a STS this week! I really liked the Shiver series, Maggie is such a fantastic writer. I'll have to check out The Young World too, it looks awesome. I got It's A funny Kind of story the other week at the bookfest and it sounds amazing.
She is an insanely talented writer and SO my favourite. x) I'm reading It's Kind of a Funny Story aaaall because of Emily. I trust her recs. xD
I'm very excited for The Young World, too. And did you know that Chris Weitz isn't "just" a film director – he's also written films, produced them, and starred in them. (You should check out the film, Chuck and Buck. It was insanely creepy.) I guess writing novels was the only thing left for him to do!
Yay Shiver!!! I really liked those books. That Maggie woman can write! I lol'd at your remarks about The Astrologers Daughter. I would have never guessed. 😛
Ooh, Maze Runner, Cait- I shall intriguedly (totally a word) await your thoughts on conclusion. I am very excited. Also, I better check in on the progress of the film- does it not come out in a few months, or is it not until January or something?
I love It's Kind of a Funny Story. I actually like Ned Vizzini's books in general. Haha. And I love the movie too. Not a good as the book, but I still like it. I've warched it multiple times I can't even count. :PAlso, I like that cover of Butter. I haven't seen it before, but it does look like butter. :))
Such good books! I LOVED the Wolves of Mercy Falls series! The Maze Runner is also absolutely amazing! I haven't read any of the other books you picked up, but I hope you enjoy them!Lisa http://www.turningpages94.blogspot.com
Should've known you wouldn't hold yourself to that promise. 🙂 (I wouldn't have been able to either!) I love re-reading previous novels in a series before the next book, don't you? But I have to tell you, with Sinner, it is completely unnecessary. That book is so far removed from the rest of the books in the series that it's not even funny. It's still good, mind you, just…different. But good different. 🙂
Oooohhhh, so many lovely reads here. I personally have been on the wait list at the library for "The Maze Runner" for like, forever, and it's killing me. I just got seven books from there a couple days ago though, so I think I'm good for a few days.I awarded you and Mime at my blog! <a href="http://diligentlywaiting.blogspot.com/2014/07/extremely-late-liebster-award.htmlhttp://diligentlywaiting.blogspot.com/2014/07/ext… />~jaime
YOU HAVEN'T READ THE MAZE RUNNER!?! SO good! I hope the movie lives up to the book! Fingers crossed! Also how cool that you got The Young World!?! That book sounds awesome! Congrats! Lovely haul, Cait! I hope you enjoy all your new reads! <3
