I think this tag was made for me. Cake?! CAKE! As you’ve probably noticed, I ramble quite frequently about cake here on Paper Fury. This is for several very logical reasons, such as:
- Half the purpose of me becoming queen of the world is so I can say “LET THE PEOPLE EAT CAKE”. #legit
- I quite admire Marie Antoinette for that, although historically accurately…she didn’t say it. (Crushing, isn’t it?)
- I’ve gotten into this habit of talking about cake, so why stop?
- Cake is just really good.
So thank you to Vlora @ Reviews and Cake for tagging me. (Isn’t her blog name just the best?!) I was really hanging out to be tagged for this, or else I had plans to steal it. Because cake.
\\ All book covers go to goodreads! Lots of gifs ahead so you’ve been warned! //
FLOUR
A BOOK THAT WAS A LITTLE SLOW TO START OFF BUT REALLY PICKED UP AS IT WENT ALONG
These kind of books are my personal pet peeve. They make me suffer through hours of mediocre story telling and then BOOM — I have to rate them high because the ending is so phenomenal. Definitely The Sin Eater’s Daughter and Vanishing Girls. Both had pretty much MIND BLOWING endings, but the beginnings? Meh. The Raven Boys also had an incredibly slow beginning but I didn’t care because I enjoy every single word of Maggie Stiefvater’s books. #StiefvaterFan
BUTTER
A BOOK THAT HAD A RICH, GREAT PLOT
Oh, oh, I love books with rich plots. It will escalate a book up into higher-star-rating territory IMMEDIATELY. (Although, to be honest, my love of books 98% hinges around characters. Not ashamed. I have severe character love.) But I adore a plot I can get invested in that makes me turn pages like a fiend.
EGGS
A BOOK YOU THOUGHT WAS GOING TO BE BAD BUT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT QUITE ENJOYABLE
I have to admit I hate this question! WHAT DO YOU MEAN EGGS ARE BAD?!! Eggs are glorious. In a well-ordered universe, I love an eggy breakfast. I adore them fried, boiled, soft-boiled, and since I enjoy cake batter…I ENJOY EGGS RAW TOO. So there.
But, to answer this politically eggly incorrect question: Some Boys really surprised me. I thought it’d be an average chick-flick, but it really delve into feminism! Yay! I was sure Spark was going to be cliche, but it was fabluous. And I don’t even know why I had doubts about Disruption. But I had it pegged (before I started) as a “meh” book. HA HA. IT WAS INCREDIBLE AND IS MY FAVOURITE.
SUGAR
A SUGARY, SWEET BOOK
I don’t actually read a lot of sweet, fluffy books. (Everything I read seems to end with death and destruction. In fact, I only discovered the other day I have just TWO pastel books! And I have, like, 5 pink books and that’s it.) But Girl Saves Boy was one of my first YA contemporaries and it’s adorable (but tragic) and Fangirl is a definite sweetie (no one even dies!). Also, let’s not forget Lola and the Boy Next Door. I have so much love for Cricket that story.
ICING
A BOOK THAT COVERED EVERY SINGLE ELEMENT THAT YOU ENJOY ABOUT A BOOK (FUNNY MOMENTS, ACTION MOMENTS, SAD MOMENTS, ETC.)
Basically this is asking for my favourite book? WELL. Let me give you a whole bucket load of books that are the sun, moon, and stars in my life. They do everything right.
(I also just noticed that most of my favourite books have red covers! Coincidence?! I THINK NOT.)
SPRINKLES
A BOOK SERIES THAT YOU CAN KIND OF TURN BACK TO FOR A LITTLE PICK ME UP WHEN YOU’RE FEELING DOWN
I don’t reread, so this is very difficult. If I had time to reread, I supposed I’d go through my old old favourites like Ranger’s Apprentice (which is hilarious) and A Series of Unfortunate Events (which is sad, but hilarious).
THE CHERRY ON TOP
YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK THIS YEAR SO FAR
Unlike 2014, where I had two billion favourites, this year I’ve literally only read five books that impressed me an astronomical amount. Am I getting too hard to please?!
Engie @ Musings from Neville’s Navel // Emily @ Loony Literate // Ella @ Once Upon a Bookish Time // Beth @ The Quiet People // Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight // Allie @ Little Birdie Books // Shanti @ Weaving Waves Words //
(And you. If you like cake, consider yourself tagged.)
Now you can’t say I never give you guys cake. This post is BUSTING with cake and it’s delicious and, gosh, I’m having a craving.
okay, important questions first: what is your FAVOURITE kind of cake?!! (supposing life was cruel and unfair and you could only pick one.) also, do you think the egg question is unfair? (eggs are delicious!) and, while we’re discussing eggs….what was the last book YOU read that you thought would suck but absolutely amazed you?? let me know in the comments!!
Cait @ Paper Fury
…is currently craving cake. Of course. (This was a silly post to do late at night.) At this point, she’d probably invade a small planet to steal their brownie cheesecake. While not thinking invading thoughts, she’s plotting like 3 books at once and fretting about which one to tackle and reading an odd little book called When You Leave.
Hooray! I saw Vlora tagged you and I knew you’d be chuffed hahaha. I love this book tag so much, anything to combine the two best things in the world – cake and books!
By the way, the eggs question is definitely unfair. Eggs are amazing.
Yes, I tried not to be offended that you didn't tag me. 😉 HAA HA I'M JUST KIDDING, INGE. YOU'RE FABULOUS. this tag is just undisputed genius. EGGS ARE LIFE.
*flails wildly* AAHHHHHHH THANKS FOR TAGGING ME!! *blows kisses* OHHH THOSE FOOD GIFS THEY’RE MAKING ME HUNGRY YOU HORRID PERSON. I think I’ll need cake while writing my post. Like MOUNTAINS of it. 😉
OMG I’M SO HAPPY TO SEE THAT EVERY BREATH IS ONE OF YOUR FAVOURITE READS SO FAR THIS YEAR. Like REALLY happy. 😀 Now you just need to read the rest of the series SOOOON and life will be perfect. XD (Your feels will be smashed [HOPEFULLY], but WHATEVER.) 😛
ALSO: I HAVE STARTED WATCHING LEVERAGE. AND I AM i>ADDICTED. IT IS LIKE THE BEST SHOW IN THE UNIVERSE. I love Piper SO SO SO much. xD
THEY MADE ME AWFULLY HUNGRY JUST FINDING THEM, SO APPRECIATE THE SUFFERING I WENT THROUGH TO MAKE THIS POST. I neeeeed cake. And heck yes I'm reading the rest of the series ASAP I just need to get my clammy paws on them. I'm sure my library will have book 2 and at the point, I'd like buy the last two because they are sooooo gooooood.LEVERAGE IS AMAZING. PARKER IS SO FABULOUS AND THEN THERE'S ELIOT WHO IS JUST WONDERFUL.
URGH DAMN IT, I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE GOT HER NAME WRONG. >.>
I FORGIVE YOU. It usually takes me like a season to remember anyone's names. I barely knew what Hardison's name was for ages. I AM CLUELESS.
THIS IS A BRILLIANT TAG. Also your gif game is on POINT today. Thanks for tagging me! There are two other tags I was tagged in but I’ve already forgotten what they are O_O
OH I remembered the tag, it was the Literary Twin one from Deadly Darlings 😀 As for favourite type of cake…probably vanilla. Anything with lots of icing 😀 And the last book that really surprised me with its amazingness was Rose Under Fire, because I expected to like it BUT I DIDN’T EXPECT TO LOVE IT. OR BAWL MY EYES OUT.
But it made me sooooo huuuuungry. *wails and feels like cake* Tags do mount up, don't they? I have like an entire list of one's I should've done before this one but pfft. There is no such thing as order and schedule on my blog. xDRose Under Fire was CRUEL ON THE FEELS. I bawled. At least it wasn't as bad (maybe?! Like I don't even know. But the ending was a little more positive) than Code Name Verity.
FINALLY THERE’S CAKE. I loved reading your answers! My favorite cake is my grandma’s Snow White cake (it’s called that because the cream is white, the cherries in the dough are red and the chocolate layer is black) – both the name and the taste are purrrrfection.
I ALWAYS GIVE CAKE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. Just wait till my blogversary though. THERE WILL BE COPIOUS CAKES. Snow White Cake sounds amazing. Like REALLY amazing.
Cake + books = happy me. I looooove cake.
How can you expect me to choose my favourite cake?! So hard! I think it has to be the vegan chocolate cupcake and icing recipe I recently discovered. It’s like eating a chocolatey cloud.
The last book I read that I thought would suck but then I loved it, hmmm. I guess it has to be Red Queen because I saw so many people say it was meh-ish and I thought the same up until the second half and I ended up loving it. That was a definite flour book for me.
It is one of humankind's greatest inventions, imho. Chocolate cupcakes…omg, my mouth is watering. STAHP YOU'RE TORTURING ME, ROSIE. (Okay, ha ha. I can't really say that after writing this post, right? I'm torturing myself. xD) I'm very found of a flourless cheesecake. It's just. Gah. Gorgeous. The base is nuts and chocolate and butter = heaven.I'm glad you really enjoyed Red Queen!! The second half was definitely superior. xD
CAKE!!!!!!
Okay most important question first: I LOVE CHOCOLATE CAKE!!! (Actually I basically love chocolate but that is for the chocolate tag so I’ll just patiently wait…. XD)
AND YES THE EGG QUESTION IS UNFAIR!!! Unless it means like, once you get through the thick outer shell and get inside it’s all the good stuff? XD In that case I approve of the metaphor *nods*
I was also MEGA SURPRISED by the unclicheness of Spark and how awesome it was!! I had a book hangover for a while there, maybe that’s why I got stuck at the Throne of Glass beginning…
Thanks for sharing Cake, I mean Cait! *he he he* Well I suppose you shared some cake too…
And I always found The Dream Thieves was harder to read the start of because all the action happens right at the end…and then there’s Blue Lily Lily Blue… oh wow that book is intense!
Thanks again! xoxo
YES CHOCOLATE AHHHHH IT IS SO GOOD. I WILL PICK CHOCOLATE AS MY FAVOURITE ALWAYS. Although chocolate CAKE is just heaven on earth.I'm not so fond of eggshell, yes, so that is a better way to look at it. *nods* I frequently eat eggshell when I make scrambled eggs and it's mildly unpleasant. (For someone who loves food I am a sucky cook. hA.) Spark was just amazing and fantastic and BASICALLY I NEED BOOK 2. *hyperventilates* Actually, my nephew spent the first two years of his life calling me “Cake” instead of “Cait” and he panicked on his 1st birthday when we informed him we were eating cake. I suppose he thought I was the menu. XD
I want to do it, but I rarely ever do tags. Which I should. Because this is just tempting. Both to my appetite and my blogging. Why must you do this to me?
JUST DO IT. THIS TAG IS DIFFERENT AND SUPERIOR BECAUSE CAKE. I do this to you because I HAVE TO. I have to destroy your resolve like this. (Go on, doooo it.)
I loved this post! That’s really clever; comparing books with cake ingredients! My favorite kind of cake . . . BAH! There are so many delicious kinds and I haven’t even tried any yet. (Have you ever tried pink lemonade cake? Recently I tried that…that was pretty delicious. And I have a watermelon mix {yes I cheat and do mixes} that I want to try… Mmmm.) But…a favorite…bah. I’ll just say red velvet. That is very delicious. 😀
As for the egg question…I suppose it could go both ways! I enjoy eggs in things (like cake and cupcakes and cookies etc.) but on their own, I could go without. They’re not my favorite. 😛 When I read you liked eggs raw, I had mistakenly skipped the part about liking cake batter, and was like O_O. XDDDDD
It is a totally unfair question, right?! HA I AM MEAN. It's like the “what is your favourite book” question. It should be outlawed. I don't think I've had pink lemonade cake but it sounds DEVINE. I love me some chocolate cake. Or brownie. Or brownie fudge. Omg it's been years since I've had that. HA. Yes, I'm not that weird. XD I do not just skull eggs. Actually I read a book where they were super poor and stole eggs and just swallowed them raw and …. ugh.
Wow, your GIF game is strong in this post. 😉
I couldn't help it. It just HAPPENED.
Favourite cake?! Hm, either chocolate fudge cake, when I’m not feeling ill like I am now, or, a delicate toffee cheesecake with a tiny bit of cream to collect all the biscuit bits. Yum. This tag is wonderful, might have to collect it and do it on BBB, we shall see. I agree though, eggs are wonderful, I haven’t had them in ages though! BUT BOOK EGG?!
That would probably be Life Unaware, because it just, wow. Sorry that these are two comments, the first posted on it’s own
Chocolate fudge cake = yes yes yes. Also brownie fudge. But that's not technically cake, so I'll shhhhsh. YES YOU SHOULD DO IT.
CAKE. EVERYONE LOVES CAKE. LET THEM EAT CAKE. CAAAAAAAAKE.
Also, I pretty much always go for the carrot because THAT FROSTING MAN but this weekend I had some kind of salted caramel loaf cake and the happy almost killed me.
The egg question is ridiculously unfair. What’s not to love about eggs? So versatile, so yummy, so….eggy? & whilst we’re talking eggs I read this book called ‘We Need New Names’ last year and in no way expected it to be as freaking excellent as it was.
YES LET'S LET THEM ALL EAT CAKE AND BE HAPPY. HUZZAH!Oh it's been years since I had carrot cake. How glorious. I REMEMBER THE WONDERFULNESS OF CARROT CAKE. With chocolate chips. *nods*Eggs are the binding of life. Like they're literally in everything. And one cannot have meringue without eggs and how would one then have lemon meringue pie without the meringue?
Thank you so much for tagging me!! I am totally going to do this post next week 🙂 I’m reading Every Breath right now AND IT IS SO GOOD. Red covers… hmm. I feel like a green cover today (beacuse it is the 17t of March!) I also loved Rose under Fire (though it was heartbreaking also) It is very strange when no one dies in a book. It confuses me. But light and fluffy books sure have their time and place (rainy days with cocoa and marshmallows) I also love the graphic for this post.
Yay! I'm glad you'll do it. 😉 EVERY BREATH IS INCREDIBLE. I just really expected it to be meh, but noooo it stole my heart. I seriously love Mycroft. He's adorable and a mess. OH. Rose Under Fire was so hurtful. I loved it but it huuuurt badly. It was pretty different to CNV that's for sure.
What a perfect combination! But only until I smudge chocolate icing on the beautiful page because I’m impossibly clumsy…
I love chocolate cake. Grocery store birthday cake, home-made chocolate cake with peanut butter icing, lava cake… My absolute all-time favorite, though, has to be that dense, moist (my brother hates that word), fudgy, 5+ layered chocolate cake served in enormous slices that cause me to feel ill after devouring every last crumb and yet regret nothing.
The egg question is fair, I think, because I always underestimate the deliciousness of eggs. I mean, give me the pancakes! (haha, pan*cake*. sorry.) But I do like a good fried egg or scrambled eggs or egg salad or quiche, or a nice cheesy omelet loaded with spinach and mushrooms and topped with hollandaise sauce.
And now that I’ve written an essay in your comments section (again, sorry), egg books I’ve recently read: The Madding Crowd. I unfairly wrote this one off as a boring classic but ended up giving it a 5/5 review. And despite all of the raving reviews about The Name of the Wind, I feared it would be too dark for my taste. It. Was. Awesome.
Oh yes, that is a bit saddening, when food gets onto books. *nods sadly* It's happened to me too.YOU'VE MADE ME SO HUNGRY. Lava cake…ohhh, moist. YES. I'm totally okay with that word in relation to cake, because moist and slightly fudgy is enough to melt my heart. PanCAKES FOR THE WIN TOO, I SAY. And yes, they are like life's glue. They're in nearly everything and don't get me started on how delicious devilled eggs are or eggs and mushrooms and omg, hollandaise sauce? Yes.OKAY I HAVE TO STOP TALKING TO YOU BECAUSE I'M SO HUNGRY NOW. THIS IS THE BEST COMMENT OF THE UNIVERSE. *wipes drool off laptop*
You do realize that you’ve just ensured that I will word-vomit (gosh, after my eloquent love letter to food, you’d think I could come up with a better word here) comments with reckless abandon on all of your posts that inspire me to do so, because that’s basically what I did… By which I mean, thank you, I’m glad you liked my comment. 😉
It’s actually not a kind of cake, but I love lemon muffins, made with yoghurt instead of milk. It gives them a fresh taste, that they keep even when the get dry.
Oh, and I like the marbled raspberry cream cake I once ate at a wedding of some relatives. It was gorgeous, but sadly I couldn’t find out who made it (so many people at a wedding) and so I couldn’ ask for a recipe or at least a number to order this delicious cake (in case that recipe was a top secret one)
But they're like MINI cakes, so totally still counted! ohhh, the yogurt sounds like an excellent idea.
THIS IS GLORIOUS. I think I shall steal it from you, because thanks to you I’ve been into thievery and conning lately so I simply must. And, I mean, CAKE.
My favorite is chocolate. Or red velvet. Or… *flails* Let’s stick with chocolate. My mother has a delicious buttercreamy frosting she puts on top and it’s honestly to die for, so yeah.
I was SUPER impressed by White Space by Ilsa J. Bick, which I know you crossed off your list but CAIT. I think you should give it a go – it’s terrifying and so, so worth it.
Well, I've posted about thievery and cons and villainy enough. Stealing! Omg! I'm so proud of you. :')CHOCOLATE IS LIFE. Chocolate in any form, shape or size, whether it's cake or just plain gnawing from the block. (Ha. I'm having chocolate cravings because I haven't had any in weeks. xD)HA, I'm super impressed you even knew I crossed it off my list! You know more about my tbr than I do. HA HA JUST KIDDING. But omg, stop making me reconsider. I have 900 books on Goodreads now that I want to read.
You would make me choose only one cake?!? Oh God! This is a disaster! Do I choose chocolate or strawberry custard tart? CHOCOLATE OR STRAWBERRY CUSTARD TART?!?
…Ahem. As soon as I saw the name of this post, I knew it was going to be AWESOME. Cake and books, yes please. But seriously, eggs are wonderful. The last book I read that I enjoyed more than I thought I would…The Martian, maybe? Or 1000 Splendid Suns. The middle part of The Book of Beasts would count too.
It's a HORRIBLE question I know. It's worse than “pick your favourite book”…it just should be outlawed. *laughs evilly*
OOH OOH. SUCH A TAG EXISTS? *flails* That is just about the coolest thing ever. Hahaha, I enjoy red books too. Red is such a beautiful colour and totally the reflects the books I like to read: dark and morbid
with awesome plots xD
I’M HUNGRY AFTER ALL THOSE GIFS NOW. How can people be biased about eggs? NO FAIR.
I’m reading Splintered right now and the plot is /MINDBLOWING/
I know right?! If I knew who invented it I'd credit them for sure. xD IT'S SUCH A GOOD TAG.*ahem* So yes, red is a gorgeous colour and often means tragedy which I love. Dark + disasters = Cait's kind of book. Ohhh SPLINTERED IS AMAZING!! I totally approve of your life decision on reading that. afjdkalfsd I love that series so so much!
“Flour” seems to be Stiefvater’s style though – slow at the start and then BAM you’re hooked and she’s got you in her clutches forever 😛 *already needing a reread of ALL HER BOOKS*
*flails over HoF because perfection*
Girl Saves Boy hurt my heart with that ending, but YES it was totes adores. And please – Cricket is the best thing that ever happened to that series <3
The Darkest Part of the Forest is definitely a standout for me! But I read it last year, so I guess I can’t count it for this year’s stats 😛 I find that I’m harder to please this year as well. I’m reading several fab books, but most fall in the four star range so far.
YES. Stiefvaterflour. Although, to be honest, I don't even care if she starts off slow. I'm always hooked after pg 1 (particularly when she starts books with murder and destruction ohhhh I LOVE THE SCORPIO RACES). Omg, you have read Girl Saves Boy?! YAY! I literally have never met anyone else who's read that! IT IS CUTE. But sad. I wanted to smack the book at the end. -_-It must be something in the water, eh? CAN'T BE OUR FAULT. I just…I haven't felt totally swept away yet. Although there's been some fabulous sequels! SQUEEE LIKE WINNER'S CRIME.
Yeah, I may steal this because, you know, cake. I completely agree with you about Vanishing Girls. It felt like I waited FOREVER for something to happen. But the ending blew me away. And yeah, I need to read The Book Thief soon. How have I not read that one yet? I also feel the same way about eggs. I eat them every single day. And on the weekends my husband makes them for me. He HATES eggs, but he actually cooks them better than I do. He says it’s because he cooks them with love. I don’t even care if you roll your eyes. I love it. hahaha.
Steal it. DO IT. You will not regret it because it was a very delicious tag to write up, even though I am now starting. #sideaffectsofcaketags Oh yay! I'm glad you liked Vanishing Girls! I LOVE THAT BOOK. Although it hurt. oh it hurt. My little sister is very very biased towards eggs and refuses to eat them, but hey eggs are like in EVERYTHING baking-wise. They are the glue of the kitchen world.
Dammit. Your question’s even harder. I LOVE CAKE. It’s the only reason why I learned to bake! BUT right now, specifically just this moment and not ever, I’d kill for a caramel swirl cheesecake topped with chopped butterscotch and drizzled with chocolate sauce. (totally drooling right now.)
The egg question is unfair. I like eggs. Their easy to cook and they are packed with protein and eggs makes cookies too and pancakes and other sweet things that make the world happy.
I recently read Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas which is a historical romance book. It was my 2nd historical because the first I read didn’t please and therefore made me feel a sense of aversion towards the genre. But surprise surprise! TCY was actually really good! I felt all warm and fuzzy after reading it. It even made me want to try for more. 😀
It is hard. It's impossibly hard and cruel and SHOULD NO BE ASKED. But I asked it. Mwhahahahha. *AHEM* So yes, that cheescake sounds wickedly delicious. Oh gosh. I'm having a craving. Eggs are wonderful. Eggs are life. I had scrambled eggs for my afternoon snack. I REGRET NOTHING.
Just thinking about cake is making me so hungry!! I will try almost any kind of cake (except if it has coconut or almonds) but my absolute favourite is ANYTHING with chocolate! Everything is better with chocolate 😀 Ensnared was amazing! And I’m so excited for Untamed! I have no idea how I’ll manage to wait until 2016, but it has to be done *sobs*. I need more LOTS more Morpheus 😀
OMG ARE YOU MY TWIN?!!! I hate coconut! haha. I always skip a coconut cake (although I will eat an ANZAC biscuit but I haven't for years, really) I eat cakes on almond flour, but I don't like actual FULL almonds bobbing around. I'm not a fan of fruit + nut cake. CHOCOLATE IS LIFE. Ensnared! YAY AND YES. And ohhhh Untamed is so so gorgeous and I can barely wait!
Hahaha Cait this tag is perfect for you! Also really unique! Also you just were able to get all relatable gifs weren’t you?
I love it when books that I thought weren’t going to be good turned out awesome. And I hate flour books. Wow look at that, I’m starting to use food to categorize books.
I looked long and hard for these gifs. XD I LOVE GIFS. And this post is probably a little gif heavy but, pfft, no regrets. Because CAKE.Food should totally be a way to categorise books. We should also star-rate food too. Like “That was a 3-star piece of pie….not enough character development.”
Omg, I LOVE cake! It’s one of the best things about birthdays! I celebrated my birthday recently and one of the things I was looking forward to, was eating cake – I actually asked my aunt to buy me a cake as well, so I ended up with a small gift cake in addition to the cake my mum got me, lol.
I’m intrigued by Some Boys; I will have to read this at some point.
I love Fangirl, The Book Thief and the Throne of Glass series.
OH CAKE SO MUCH CAKE! You make fabulous birthday wishes. 😉 (Happy belated birthday, btw!!)Some Boys was fabulous and just completely not what I was expecting. YAY. Those kind of books please me immensely.
(My tummy just grumbled).
Hmm. If I had to choose only one type of cake I’d go with chocolate. No doubt. Chocolate cake can never taste bad (duh, that’s why there’s chocolate in it!) no matter how dry/undercooked/bleurgh it seems. 😀
Eggs are life – my breakfast is just eggs and toast most of the time (it’s because I live the good life). YOU EAT EGGS RAW? My role model!
😛
MINE IS GRUMBLING STILL. Answering comments is torture actually with everyone describing their favourite type of cake. *sobs* I neeeeed cake. Chocolate cake is always a winner. I particularly like it undercooked and fudgy.EGGS ARE MY LIFE TOO. Hey, hey now, I mean raw as in while they're in cake/biscuit batter! HA. I don't skull them raw. (Although I did mix a raw egg into my soup the other day. I don't even know why. Don't ask. My mum said too.)
Aw, thank you for tagging me. It’s the first time I’ve ever been officially tagged in ANYTHING, so you know. You kind of have my undying love, and all that jazz. Normally I would answer the questions right here in the comments, but now I can’t. And this is too short to leave as a comment, so I’m gonna do some waffling instead.
You may want to prepare yourself.
Actually, I like the egg question (because I’m a MAVERICK!! (I’m not entirely sure I know what that word means.)). I’m never in the mood for eggs, but they always surprise me by being rather tasty. So I get it.
Although I’d like to pause and make everyone agree that raw cake (batter I mean, not like a raw diet) is SOOOOOOOOO much better than baked cakes. I don’t eat cake a lot, but when I make one, you’re lucky is any goes in the tin.
Phew. No one will ever notice that my comment has no substance today. Woohoo.
Beth x
OH REALLY? WELL. LOOK OUT. I shall tag you in ALL THE THINGS now. xD HAHA. Just kidding. I won't be that annoying. My sister is really opposed to eggs and she just totally puzzles me. How can one enjoy bacon and EGGS without, um, the eggs? (She doesn't even eat bacon! WHAT EVEN.) okay, sorry, I digress there on my sister's weirdness. *ahem* SO WHAT WAS I SAYING? Oh yes. Cake batter is actually life. I don't know who decided we had to bake cakes but they're kind of silly. I wish it was common practise to pour a bowl of cake batter and eat it like that. *sigh*
Your GIFS are always great, but they are particularly perfect in this post. =) Also Cait, you really should consider re-reading books! I know it’s difficult with such a huge to-read list, but I think it’s worth it, especially if it’s a book you haven’t read for a few years. It’s like when you see a movie over and over again and catch something new each time. Totally worth it.
THEY WERE PARTICULARLY DELICIOUS. I nearly ate my computer. *sigh* Serious cake cravings happening right now. WAH.
I wasn’t specifically tagged, but I think I’m going to do this one anyway (since I’m not doing TTT this week).
My favourite kind of cake is probably cheesecake… which is weird, since I’m a vegan. But there’s this thing called a raw vegan cheesecake, which is made with nuts. Sounds weird, but if it’s done right, it’s eerily like the real thing (texture, flavour, richness…). So I’d have to go with that.
YES YOU SHOULD!! (I skipped the TTT this week too just because I thought the prompt wasn't fab. Ha! I never know what I'm going to read in advance. Omg. Too much commitment.) Cheesecake is gorgeous. Although I'm curious how you make it without dairy. Oh it doesn't sound weird! TRUST ME. My family nearly cooks everything on nuts (we don't do grains, like, ANY grains) and my favourite cheesecake is this chocolate brownie one. It's got cream cheese, but the base is just nuts and butter and sugar. *drools*
Oh, Cait, now you made me want cake, too! (Someone should write a book about a professional cake-taster; it’ll be tasty– I mean, amazing XD) I LOVE sponge cake and cupcakes! I thought Endgame: The Calling was going to suck, but it was surprisingly good (and nothing like THG).
I’m going to steal this tag for my blog because I can. (Well, it’s not really stealing if you already sorta tagged me, but still :P).
Don't worry, I made ME want cake so badly too and now I'm paying for it. *wipes drool off laptop* I'M HUNGRY FOR CAKE. hehe. Ohhh, really?! THAT IS GOOD NEWS. I have Endgame on my TBR but feel 1000% uninterested. This makes me more curious. and YAY STEAL IT! I did tag you! I DID. I TAGGED THE WORLD WITH CAKE! *throws cake at the masses*
*actually just finished eating cake and ice cream because we have so much leftover birthday cake*
and before you ask, I made a caramel cake.
it’s awesome.
OMG. LUCKY YOU. WHERE IS MINE? Caramel cake. Ohhhhh.
*mails you a piece*
I love this and now I want cake! I loved Every Breath as well and I cannot wait to read the next one.
I need to read the next one like NOW. ha! I'm trying to get through a few books on my TBR first. XD
Favourite cake you ask? Cheesecake (the caramel kind to be precise). This tag is so fun, Cait! I love your matching red covers (they look amazing all in a row) and is it coincidence that I’m considering ordering Girl Saves Boy from the library?
Love, Annie-Jo xo
YES CHEESECAKE IS MY FAVOURITE TOO!! hehe. Sorry. I'm just excited. I love chocolate brownie cheesecake and astronomical amount. Oh wow, that is an awesome coincidence. Girl Saves Boy is GREAT. Little teary, but so heartfelt.
I have the perfect answer for the butter: The Tales of Goldstone Wood Series. What even is with that series. The plot lines in the book are so complicated, and their complexity never ceases to amaze me. The world building is also extremely rich. Just when I think I know all about Goldstone Wood, Anne Elisabeth Stengl introduces a new part of the world and new characters, and she does it so seamlessly. All of her books connect back to each other AND I DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW SHE DOES IT. Also, I highly approve of The Book Thief and Rose Under Fire for icing. I also recently read and loved Between Shades of Gray (DO NOT CONFUSE THE TITLE PEOPLE), a book that is totally icing.
Ohh you've practically sold me here. I LOVE it when there's a whole heap of teeny tiny plot strands and they just tie together gloriously. It's my FAVOURITE. And it always makes me sit back and just go “wow this author is seriously smart”. hehe. And EMBARRASSING MOMENT – I HAVE conufsed Fifty Shades of Grey and Between Shades of Grey before. >_< I think I thought Fifty Shades was the one I wanted to read. AHHA. Well, luckily it was only a thought and I didn't go borrowing it from the library or anything. I would like to read BETWEEN Shades of Grey. (I also wish it would change it's title. hheehe.)
Chocolate cake is the best. There’s this store here in the U.S called Costco (are they in Australia?) and it sells an AMAZING big chocolate cake. Yum.
I think Gregor the Overlander was the last egg-book I read…I had extremely low expectations (the back of the cover descriptions sets up for many Harry Potter/Percy Jackson-like cliches) but OH MY GOSH THAT BOOK WAS SO GOOD! The whole series was pretty brilliant.
I have no idea but probably not?! STILL. That chocolate cake is making my mouth water…aghhhhh. I NEED CAKE. XD I want to read Gregor! I can't believe I haven't even borrowed it from the library yet! Actually, throw that. I'm going to go reserve it right now. *nods*
Cake is the best. Books are the best. Which means that THIS is the best. I haven’t read most of the books you have, but I love the connotations you associate with each one. And I have to agree that Ranger’s Apprentice is like book sprinkles for me. 🙂
I know right?! It's just all round THE BEST. The creator is a genius. :')
I don’t like cake.
….
….
….
Just kidding! Really, I adore cake. Like I adore this tag. Although I confess I would adore it more if it was actually cake. Oh, well.
I really really really want to read Splintered. And The Help. And The Book Thief. You taunt me.
I think books are like cake. Cuz, you know, I devour them both.
Goodness, now I can’t stop thinking about cake.
OKAY WELL I NEARLY THREW A COOKBOOK AT YOUR HEAD, SO YOU'RE LUCKY I KEPT READING AND DIDN'T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS. ha. Just teasing. 😉 Cake is pretty much life, though. #factI do. I'm an excellent taunter. SO GO READ THEM. The Help is so fantastic.
This is a DELICIOUS tag, Cait! I’m glad Fangirl and Lola and the Boy Next Door made it to this list (I’m such a fluff girl). And The Help! I haven’t actually read the book yet (though it’s on my TBR) but I’ve seen the movie and I loved it.
Wheee, I agree with all of this, just saying 😉 Although I have to say, I keep seeing Ellie Marney EVERYWHERE! On Twitter, on blogs, and it just makes me want to read her books as soon as possible. Are they available outside Australia? I know she’s an Australian author… will have to check TBD, or, if not, log on to my Amazon.AU account and buy her stuff there 😛 I don’t think I’ve seen a rating less than 4 for that one! And I sooo want to read the sequel to Disruption. That one was one dystopia that was so well-written. Long live Australian authors!
I love chocolate cake! Like Tobias. I love Tobias too. And cake. And Tobias loves chocolate cake. WHY AREN’T WE MARRIED YET?! Sorry, I just, ya know, had to rant for a couple of seconds.
My “egg” book would surprisingly have to be the Skulduggery Pleasant series! I always thought it would be really middle-grade and have too many action scenes (you know those books that have so many action scenes that it actually becomes boring? Or idk, maybe that’s just me haha!) but I LOVED them so much and they’re now like, my favorite series!
Totally gonna do this tag! This is AWESOME! 😀
The Help is so good! I also think it’s really underrated. The movie was brilliantly adapted as well. I love this tag but now I’m so hungry it’s not even funny! Great choices all around, Cait!
Ooo, cake…
But I loved most of these books on the list, and the other ones I haven’t read yet. I still need to read Vanishing Girls, and this post reminded me of that…
BOOKS WITH RICH PLOTS ARE THE BEST! And I completely agree with you – Dangerous Girls & Splintered both definitely fall into that category. They both are so amazingly creative and vivid.
And ahh! Icing is definitely the best part of the cake. 😉 And I completely agree with you about The Book Thief, Rose Under Fire & Crown of Midnight. They were all so wonderfully written and gave out all the emotions!
Thanks for sharing Cait, and great answers! *goes to find some cake* xD
Yayy thank you SO much for tagging me! I wanted to steal it too, because it looks so fun. And CAKE.
My favorite cake ever is Key Lime cake. IT. IS. AMAZING. I also quite enjoy rum cake and a german chocolate situation. I love cake, okay?
Now, these books. I haven’t read most of them because I am clearly a terrible reader. Well no- I read The Darkest Part of the Forest, and Vanishing Girls, and The Sin Eater’s Daughter. Apparently, I am a WONDERFUL 2015 reader, but other years? Not so much. And the weird thing is, I own nearly ALL of the rest of them, except Disruption and Corruption, because someone has decided that the US AND UK do not need them. My face is sad, in case you were wondering.
And seriously, what on earth is wrong with eggs!? Eggs are GOOD!
CHOCOLATE ALL THE WAY.
I’ve actually had chocolate cake two days in a row plus a chocolate muffin. It was splendid.
There was some funeral that bought way too much extra cake for the attendees so this one brother/monk/fellow-who-wears-an-awesome-brown-tunic I know who was at the funeral got to take all the cake home with him. He brought it to school and shared (how nice of him). There were two humungo sheet cakes and a plate of cupcakes. It was magical so I ran and snagged the first piece. Then I had another one today because (for some incomprehensible reason) there was still some leftover. Clearly my friends do not appreciate cake enough.
And eggs are good except not all the time. I love scrambled ones (with cream cheese!), or in baked goods. But I’m not super obsessed with omelets, hard boiled eggs, or fried ones. *shrugs*
CLEARLY YOUR FRIENDS DEFINITELY DO NOT APPRECIATE CAKE ENOUGH. Even if it is cake for the dead. But, hey, everything has a silver lining, amirite?! *ahem* Scrabbled eggs with cream cheese?! I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT. Omg, why have I not heard of that. It sounds divine.
I actually just heard of scrambled eggs and cream cheese a few months ago. My sister told my friend’s mom how I had trouble making moist scrambled eggs and she just said: “Put cream cheese in while you’re scrambling them. Then they’ll never get dry-tasting.” IT WORKS MAGIC
What a wonderful idea for a tag! It’s like you read my mine, I have a scheduled discussion next week about books that have amazing endings but were draggy all the way through. I love those rich plots, no matter the genre! Great post Cait as always <3
Yum. Cake. (Luckily my brother’s birthday is next week so I am hoping for some cake myself…) I’d choose Chocolate cake with a delicious fudge filling if I could only have one cake for the rest of my life. But you can never go wrong with Carrot cake, either, and vanilla is just a scrumptious classic that I could never survive without. And cheesecake! You’re right on point with that brownie cheesecake though!
(This turned into a cake rambling comment)
I was a bit ‘meh’ at first about The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson but I ended up really liking it to answer the bookish question… hehe.
Chocolate cake! Or lemon cake with raspberry jam filling . . . or tres leche cake. i can’t decide. Who cares though? It’s CAKE! (And I’ll take nearly anything that is sweet and sugary and delicious).
Also . . . HALF BAD. I love that book! And Ranger’s Apprentice is one of my old faves too! I actually do go back and reread that . . . I think I’ve reread the first one about eight times . . . *nervous laugh*
Would you mind if I abscond with this? I want to do this too because books + cake = heaven.
First thought: WHY DID NO ONE THINK I LOVE CAKE TOO?!! Second thought: EGGS ARE AMAZING.
So. I think I like chocalate mousse cake the best? But then there are the caramel and coffee flavoured ones… Oh! And the decadent cakes and white forest… Okay. I’m seriously making my mouth water and tummy grumble so I will stop now.
PS. I’m so doing this tag. Kthanksbye.
This is beautiful! I love cake! ^.^
