It’s my stop with MTMC Tours to talk about The Conjurers: Rise of the Shadow by Brian Anderson!
This was like tumbling headfirst into a world reminiscent of Alice on Wonderland and Oz, but add in mysteries, sibling bonds, secret family history to uncover, and magical machines! It’s the kind of Middle-Grade fantasy that is both fun and enchanting, with characters who are easy to love, and action that never stops. Like!! Truly never stops!! Someone needed to feed these kids ๐ฉ๐๐ป The pacing made it impossible to put down. ๐๐๐ป
Alex and Emma are such amazing protagonists! They’re siblings, Emma the oldest, and they have that accurate sibling bond of loving each other fiercely and also annoying each other. ๐ Their personality opposites too. Emma is dreamy and whimsical. While Alex is all into machines and facts. He wants library books about concrete evidence. Emma wants to believe in magic and would 10000% follow a talking rabbit into a hole. Which….she does. And Alex has to follow because as much as magic can’t be real (in his opinion ๐ช๐๐ป) he’d never let his sister be alone.
They’re flung into the world of Conjurian, where magic is REAL. Illusionists have true magic and only pretend to be fake. Rabbits can talk. There are villains made of bones and monsters here to chase you. And there is the truth about Alex and Emma’s parents to uncover — maybe they weren’t simple archeologists after all. Emma and Alex might not have all the answers, but they better find out: because a lot of people are after them.
An engaging and face-paced read, perfect for kids who love both logic and whimsy, who want to be amazed and just have a downright good time. ๐ค And it has a cliffhanger (pretty much literally!) that will have you scrambling for the sequel!

Siblings Emma and Alex tumble into a secret world where magic is real and skilled illusionists can perform actual tricks–for better or worse.
After their parents vanished, Alex and Emma are sent to live with strict Uncle Mordo. Only Emma’s pet rabbit, Pimawa, keeps them company. But when flying skeletons called Rag-o-Rocs storm their once-quiet home, the kids escape just in time with Pimawa leading the way.
The rabbit takes the siblings to the Conjurian, a land where magic exists and Pimawa can talk. But the Conjurian is in trouble. Magic has been disappearing, and the Shadow Conjurer, the most mysterious sorcerer of all, is on the hunt for the Eye of Dedi, an object so powerful it could destroy the Conjurian and human worlds. The battle to control all magic has begun. There’s only one problem: Alex and Emma don’t have any!

I’ve recently gotten back into reading more middle-grade fiction and this novel sounds like a lot of fun!
