Like any Tolkien-regarding-citizen, I am doing my best to patiently wait for the arrival of The Hobbit: Part 1.
I watch the countdowns flick on various blogs. I pin various dwarf/wizard/hobbit related pictures. I’ve seen several trailers (and a few mix and match ones too). I’m even trying to convince my family we need to see the midnight showing (that’s going down like lead balloon). I play the song “Concerning Hobbits” on the piano, for crying out loud!!
And then, the most terrible and mean and cruel revelation struck me the other day.
Someone mentioned The Hobbit was coming out in 30 days.
It’s set to hit cinemas on the 26th of December. Right? RIGHT?!
Would you believe our progressive nation of Australia is the 2nd to LAST country to view The Hobbit? (Only Poland gets it 2 days later then us.) Excuse me, but New Zealand is right next door to our country. They view it on the 28th of November. How is this happening?!
After countries from Israel to Serbia to Estonia (do you even know where Estonia is?!!) view The Hobbit, on days ranging from the 12th of December onwards, on the grand day of the 26th, Australia views the eight wonder of Middle Earth.
Unfair? Try cruel injustice. By the time we see The Hobbit, half the world will have reviewed, discussed, rewatched, bought hobbit keepsakes, grown pointy ears and be wearing Elvish ingrained rings.
Australia? What has happened here? Who is running this country?
Please, don’t gloat (okay, if you must, you must, but imagine me pulling a very sad face), if you live in Serbia or Estonia. Have a good time. I’m happy for your luck (not, I’m pouting). Remember the Australians in our popcorn flavoured cinemas, sitting tight until the 26th of December.
On the upside, of course, we get to see The Hobbit as a belated Christmas present. So there.
And if anyone is planning on flying to Middle Earth in the near future, you might want to watch this quick guide to airplane conduct. Please, Sauron, turn OFF the iPad.
Who’s going to see The Hobbit?!! Who’s flying Middle Earth Airlines to see the premiere in New Zealand??!!
