I’m linking up with The Broke and the Bookish for their incredibly awesome meme: Top Ten Tuesday.
This is a meme involving lists, peoples. LISTS! I love lists.
This week’s prompt is: Top Ten Books I Almost Put Down But Didn’t. Of which my brain boggled and I nearly skipped this week. Until I read Charnell @ Reviews from a Bookworm (awesome blog that, one of my favourites, so GO OVER THERE SOMETIME) who wrote about books she wished she’d put down. I had a lightbulb moment. I’m going to split my post into 2 halves. Books I’m glad I stuck with AND books I wish I’d stopped.
If you’ve been hanging around us for a while, you’ll know we adore The Lunar Chronicles. I’m talking down-right-crazy-OBSESSION.
Hard to believe I DNF’ed this originally, right? Well it’s the truth! I read the first chapter and then sent it back to the library — partly because I ran out of time, and partly because it just didn’t grab me. Gosh, am I glad I borrowed it back out! It’s now a 5-star book and I love the series!
You’re laughing at me, right? Come one, confess. I KNOW you are. I rave about Maggie Steifvater and all her books regularly…so it’s hard to believe I read the first chapter of this one and sent it back to the library. BUT I DID. I promise I’m not lying! I used to not be fond of ghost stories. Or supernatural things. Ha! Funny little mite, I was.
Again, this is a 5-star book and one of my favourites.
I read the first chapter of this one (because Lydia told me to) and then I sent it back to the library. It started off wickedly well, but then it swapped narrators! It went into this boring story about Maddie who lived in England and liked motorcycles and blah blah. Can we get back to the poor person being held by the Gestappo?
AGAIN: now it’s a 5-star read, totally tore my feels out, scarred me for life, and I can’t recommend it enough.
I chomped through this without sending it back to the library at any point…but I did despair at the beginning. I was so confused. The world was really detailed and intense and I didn’t understand the religions or who-was-in-charge-of-who. BUT, I stuck through it and it inspired me in writing my own fantasy. Also: it’s now rated 4-stars.
I didn’t like the first book, Shatter Me, at all. Not even a bit! I was frustrated and confused…and slightly weirded out by the strange writing. But a lot of bloggers told me the next two books where better. I persevered! And what happened?
I have super fond thoughts of this series! I rated the last two books 4-stars, and I truly adore the final book, Ignite Me.
Oh I wish I could burn this book from my brain. It infuriated me and, honestly, made me fill sick. I wrote out why in my Goodreads review. But was this book honestly about bullies bullying bullies? (Very eloquent, I am.) Nope. Just nope.
This is a prime example of a happy family who moves to the country and gives their daughter eeeeverything she could want. (A pony! Yay!) Until, of course dear darling finds out she’s adopted and HOW DARE YOU NEVER TELL ME. I HATE YOU. I’M RUNNING AWAY WITH A STRANGER NOW.
You know those books that make you cry because you’re a) confused and b) bored? This was one of them for me. Dom felt like 35 years old, even though he was only 15. And all religions are wrong! Except for the Egyptian one! Because that’s not contradictory at all!
The title says it, and I’ve said it, and I’ll say it again: don’t even think about this book. I’m sure my intelligence dropped while I read it. Larissa, I will always listen to you in the future. I promise.
I also refuse to believe that teenagers are really this unintelligent.
From a purely dystopian view-point, this book completely ripped off EVERY famous dystopian out there. I wish I was exaggerating. But, no! First of all our sweetie-pie couple are matched together (Matched by Ally Condie). After they escape their society and find another, they get “truth pills” (Divergent by Veronica Roth), and then they go to train for special forces. Lucky we’re all good at archery (The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins) because now only one boy and one girl will survive the training!
I have never in my life been so ANGRY while reading a book.
Cait has always had a slight infatuation with The Emperor’s New Groove. Is it not the funniest movie in the world?! Sometimes, she feels great kindredness to Kuzco and pretends to rule the world. Mime just rolls her eyes. Currently, Cait is still reading The Dream Thieves.
Great list! I never knew about Aberrant, I got it off NG. I’ll think twice about it now.
I kind of struggled with Shatter Me as well but plan on finishing the series.
And I am glad you stuck to Cinder, it’s really good! 😀
Heh…I’m sorry, a little book-rage let out there. I don’t usually rant so much, but that really ticked me off. *sigh* Ignite Me is SO worth it! And I’m in love with the whoooole Lunar Chronicles. Can’t wait for Winter! XD How was I ever a doubter?
I keep hearing good things about Cinder and Shatter Me 🙂 I should really pick them up sometime (except that right now, I’m avoiding series because I have too many that I still have to finish…)
I’m avoiding series too, hehe. It’s my terrible failing really. I ALWAYS read the first book and rarely get back to the rest. >_<
Love the way you categorized this prompt! Yes, now that I think about it, mine is grouped that way, too, with the addition of the last book in the category of Stopped and Maybe Should Try Again.
Here’s my list of Books I Almost Put Down.
I had a bit of fun with my categories here….What can I say? I LOVE LISTS.
Love this list – so many in your first 5 I’ve been meaning to read! *scrolls up* 4/5 of them actually!
http://confessionsofabookgeek.wordpress.com/2014/05/13/top-ten-tuesday-books-ive-put-down/
Eeep! I hope you get the chance someday. I toootally recommend those ones, even if they’re hard to get into. 😉
I loved how you separated them into the two groups- that’s awesome. I also loved Cinder and Shatter Me (especially Ignite Me), but I haven’t read The Raven Boys or Code Name Verity yet (though I have read the companion, Rose Under Fire). I haven’t read any of the ones you wished you’d stopped, and I’m not sure I will now.
x Ely
How was Rose Under Fire?! Frankly I’m too scared to try it! I was sooo heartbroken at the end of Code Name Verity. *sniffles pitifully* HOW COULD THE AUTHOR LET THAT HAPPEN?!!!
I just borrowed The Raven Boys from the library. I will persevere past the first chapter, promise 🙂 maybe I should read past Shatter Me, which I didn’t like at all…interesting you talk about 13 Reasons Why. Reading your review my opinion of it has kind of changed, but I’d have to read it again to figure it out properly.
Oh, yes, I was probably the harshest I’ve ever been on 13 Reasons Why and I feel terribly guilty about that because most people rate it 4-5 stars. And I’m here grumbling about it. (My bad.) But don’t worry…I sent Raven Boys back to the library originally. xD I’m having a bit of trouble getting into the sequel…buuut, I found a recap of The Raven Boys so NOW I REMEMBER ALL.
Here for the Emperor gifs. Lol
But yeah, Cinder and Code Name Verity, I put both of those down after 1 chapter. Too much more to read. But I did stock them in the library, and the students seem to enjoy them. So, win for them.
(I seriously love that movie!!) XD Cinder I absolutely don’t understand disliking, now…but I do understand why Code Name Verity isn’t for everyone. It’s definitely on the slower side.
I hate myself for still not reading the Lunar Chronicles series as well as the Shatter Me series since almost everyone is raving about i D:
I kind of have mix emotions towards 13 Reasons Why because somehow I did enjoy reading it but every time I look back to it, it really makes me mad why the girl had to kill herself -__-
czai @ the Blacksheep Project
I totally recommend The Lunar Chronicles, buuuut you do need patience to get through Shatter Me #1. Hehe. It definitely has laugh-out-loud humour too!
13 Reasons Why? Argh. I just can’t even…bleh. It’s the ultimate bullying, I think, and I’m pretty sure the cruelest person was the girl who died because she INTENTIONALLY destroyed those kids, while they had no idea they were even hurting her.
Oh nooo, I have heard interesting things about Aberrant but I remember seeing one of the covers and thinking it seemed similar to another dystopian book! So glad I didn’t end up picking it up, because that would make me angry too. I can see a pattern with you reading first chapters and then sending it back to the library, glad you ended up persevering (ESPECIALLY with Cinder!)
I’m not sure, but I think Aberrant was originally self-published anyway? I just can’t understand how it’s even legal! *cough* Okay, calming down… 😉 GO CINDER.
Yay, I’m glad you decided to do this weeks TTT in the end. I am especially glad considering all the awesome Emperor’s New Groove gifs, it might just be one of my all time favourite movies ever! 😉 Also, thanks for linking back to mine as that is super awesome and lovely of you.
Of the ones you almost put down, I am planning to start Cinder and then follow straight away with Scarlet & Cress (I have already assumed I will fall in love with the series & need to read the next books straight away), so if I feel a little meh about it in chapter one I will be sure to stick with it. I did the exact same thing with The Raven Boys, I read chapter 1 and didn’t really feel it and took it back to work. I have been doubting that decision ever since, I hear so many amazing things. Code Name Verity, eeeek, sorry but that should have made my list of ones I wish I’d put down. I thought it was really boring at the beginning, like you did. But, it never got better for me because I felt it was just a bit too historically inaccurate. The Gestapo wouldn’t have dealt with all the crap she gave them and the pointless accounts. I don’t know, my years of studying Nazi Germany in History at school and college just made me argue with that book a lot whilst I was reading it. The Shatter Me series, I’ve heard that one isn’t that great but the next two books make up for it, glad you feel the same way and I will be sticking with that series.
Of the ones you wanted to put down: Thirteen Reasons Why, I remember really hating Hannah’s character and thinking her reasons for suicide were pretty pathetic. I was also really angry about all the reasons she sent to people saying why they were responsible. Most of them barely made sense and poor Clay, I felt so sorry for him. I really didn’t like her in the end, she made the decision to end her life and I felt she should take responsibility for that NOT blame everyone else. Aberrant, oh wow, that one does sound like a giant rip off of the big dystopians that are out right now. That would definitely annoy me. I recently read a book that reminded me of Mean Girls, once you see the similarities you can’t stop finding more.
Great list, as always! =D
That seemed a lot shorter when I was typing it =/ Oh well, bloggers love long comments right 😉
Oh gosh. BEST COMMENT EVERRRRR. Seriously! x)
First of all: Emperor’s New Groove gifs FTW!! They are the best, and literally, you can almost sum up anything with them. 😉 Kuzco is my favourite.
Raven Boys is a funny one…I know most people just didn’t like it, and I GET that, but I’m personally in love. I just finished Dream Thieves (like 2 seconds ago) and I do understand why it’s been DNF’d a lot, buuuut, I’m still in love with the characters. Characters are always SUCH a win for me. x) And humour. We all know I’m a sucker for humour. I haven’t studied WWII history in depth like you, so I wouldn’t know if it was accurate or not! It sounded accurate. lol I was a bit bored in the first half, I have to admit…but the ending. *sobs*
You and me both for 13 Reasons. *shakes fist at book* I’m usually happy to just shrug off a book I didn’t like, but that one really, really disturbs me, because it makes bullying FROM THE GRAVE okay. And it’s not! No bullying is! And Hannah was obviously a troubled person and I feel so, so sorry for her and I wish she didn’t commit suicide. Buuuut….what she did with those tapes was wrong and I can’t ever understand why the book gets high ratings. Nope. >.<
“Lydia told me to.” Translation: Lydia told you and TOLD you and told you to, and waited impatiently while you stalled.
I always stall don’t I? And now worse than ever because I don’t trust you with my emotions anymore…
I ALMOST DNFed CINDER, TOO. *high fives* But then.. I tried it again and BAM! Awesomeness. It’s the opposite for the Shatter Me series, though. Loved book one, DNFed book two and will probably never touch book three. Lol, even if Thirteen Reasons Why has been recommended to me a bunch of times, I’ve never had the interest in it. So yeah. Good for me. Awesome post, girl! <33
Ha! That’s hilarious that you and me had the same Cinder experience! xD I toootally recommend staying away from Thirteen Reaons. >_< Nope. Just nope.
Wow. We have similar tastes. I really liked Cinder, but Finnikin, Raven Boys, and Code Name Verity were just really difficult for me. I didn’t finish Finnikin. I ended up listening to Raven Boys on audio (otherwise I wouldn’t have finished it either,) and I just didn’t like Verity. Thought it was very SLOW….You other mentions I haven’t read, but your list makes me cautious!
I wouldn’t have finished Code Name Verity if I hadn’t of had it on audio! The audio totally saved my life. 😉
OMG two of the books you almost DNF’d Cinder and Raven Boys . I almost did as well. Raven Boys I still haven’t finished though. AND I wasn’t a huge fan of Shatter Me either but I LOVED Unravel Me. It’s like a fav!
Ignite Me is my favourite!!! I was sooo laughing at Kenji, crying at Adam, cheering for Juliette, and loving Warner. XD ALL THE FEELS.
Great list – I went all negative though! But it was hard since I really don’t have a problem pronouncing a book dead, and it is rare that I finish. Cinder was one that I didn’t necessarily struggle with, but wasn’t blown away. Not sure if I will pick up the next two books or not.
I think Cress is the best of the three Lunar books, honestly. xD Buuut, I can understand why they don’t appeal to everyone! I mean, what book does?! Everyone’s different. XD
I never did finish The Raven Boys, just couldn’t make myself keep going with this one 😛
Aw, well I totally adored it, but I do understand! Plus it was a wee bit slow in the beginning….
Thanks for the heads-up because I planned on reading Don’t Even Think About It. 0_0
I’m glad you stuck with the Shatter Me series. 🙂 Cinder too!
Ee…well, I hope I didn’t turn you off TOO much if you’re already planning on it. >_< My bad. I just, gah, I just couldn’t stand any of that fluff.
I had the same problem with Cinder! I think once I got super-interested in the characters and plot, it was awesome, but the beginning was realllllly slooooow.
Plus the beginning, like, sentence had a lot of technical jargon that I still don’t get. And, to me, Iko was confusing in the beginning, BUT THEN I NEVER LOOK BACK BECAUSE I LOVE IKO SO MUCH NOW.
Ugh, I totally relate with Shatter Me and Don’t Even Think About It. I bought Shatter Me June of 2013, and just because the authors were visiting our country last April I decided to get back into it and buy the other books in the series. Like you I am glad I read it again. With Mlynowski’s book, *sighs* I don’t even know how to start. You’re right I shouldn’t have even thought about it, I should have just dropped this one. I wasted a week trying to finish this book. >.<
Ella @ The Filipina Booknote
Bleh, wasn’t Don’t Even Think About It a pain?! I mean, I’m not book bashing or anything, I just genuinely KNOW it wasn’t for me. Too much fluff and not enough stuff, honestly. I only own Ignite Me and I sooo wish it was signed. 😉 ahaaha!
Oh, The Raven Boys. I love The Raven Boys. I never would have picked up this book if I hadn’t read The Scorpio Races first. I read Shiver and did not like it and almost shunned all her books, but The Scorpio Races sounded intriguing and I ended up loving it…which lead me to The Raven Boys. Second chances are very important.
My TTT
The Scorpio Races is STILL my favourite! I loooove it and it was my first Stiefvater read too. 😉 I love Shiver and co, though, so I have no problems there. Haha. XD I just finished Dream Thieves, too, and ANOTHER top hit!
Oh, I loooooooooved THIRTEEN REASONS WHY. I thought it was quite beautiful and thought provoking, but each to their own 🙂 It’d be VERY boring if everyone liked the same book, right? 😉
I’ve DNF CINDER more times then I can COUNT! It’s SO unfair as I want to adore it like the rest of the world, buuuuuut…I can’t 🙁 WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?? *cries*
My first Top Ten Tuesday :D: http://onceuponabookishtime.blogspot.co.nz/2014/05/top-ten-tuseday-ten-books-i-almost-put.html
Oh definitely, and I’m keenly aware that I might offend people with my vehement dislikes of this post! So I AM sorry about that! Each to their own, exactly. xD
Haha guess who’s NOT reading Abberant? Wow. Also, I can’t believe you almost DNF’d The Raven Boys! But, at least now you love it 🙂
*hi fives* Don’t worry, you are NOT missing out. I am SUCH a Raven Boys fan now my feels can’t even function.
That is really surprising that you originally DNFs Cinder and The Raven Boys just shows you have to be in a certain mood for something sometimes.
I think moods count for stuff a LOT of time, too! And I first tried to read Cinder before I was really truly book blogging…so I didn’t even know anything about the fandom. To me I wasn’t even giving it a proper chance. 😉 I’m SO glad I changed my mind! Lunartic FTW!
Great list! It took me forever to get around to reading Cinder, because I’m not a big Sci-Fi person and the cover didn’t really grab me- and then BAM I powered through it and it’s literally my biggest fiarytale inspired obsession! I had trouble with this Tuesday’s topic too, and put my own spin on it (because that’s the beauty of blogging isn’t it? Expressing yourself?) I love reading your posts!
My TTT
Duuude, YES, blogging is about expressing yourself. XD I love Cinder and the other two to death now and I’m SUCH a fan. I’m so glad I came back. Fairy tale rewrites are awesome.
OOOh, I love Raven Boys I’m glad you do too! http://ouachitaya.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-raven-boys-review.html
But I really enjoyed 13 reasons, and read it in one night.
Definitely loved The Raven Boys! 😉 I just finished the Dream Thieves now too.
I feel the opposite way about the Shatter Me series. I loved the first book but I thought the series got progressively worse. And it’s not even the love triangle issue either.
Thanks for stopping by!
Aly @ My Heart Hearts Books
Ha! Just goes to show how subjective reading is, right?!!
I think I have Resilient… but I got it for free! Har har har…
One book series I’m glad I didn’t stop was the Caster Chronicles, despite the fact the first 2 were uber boring and slow. :p
The Raven Boys I almost DNFed too but I ended up not especially loving it, sadly 🙁 Cinder though I’m glad you didn’t put that I love that whole series !I really have to finish the Unravel Me series, too! Gah I feel so behind on that one! >.<
I have been avoiding reading Cinder since it came out. Ehhhh. I loved The Raven Boys and blasted through it, but The Dream Thieves is probably going to end up a DNF. I just can’t seem to get into it! :/
I put down Code Name Verity too, and it seems like a lot of other people did too. (Like you, I came back to it and ended up absolutely loving it!) The beginning is a bit hard to get into with so many plane details, but once you’re into the second half of the story, it really all falls into place.
I put down The Dream Thieves too because the writing style just wasn’t for me. I’m probably going to try it again sometime, once i have a little more spare time on my hands, but for the time being, I’m definitely the black sheep/
Thanks so much for sharing Cait, and, as always, BRILLIANT review! <3
~ Zoe @ The Infinite To-Read Shelf
Hmmmm. So what have you learned Cait?
STOP SENDING BOOKS BACK TO THE LIBRARY!!! RENEW THEMMMMMMMMMM
(I do agree with you on Code Name Verity though, and now I thought the parts with all the planes were so boring. I haven’t read any of the books you didn’t stick with, so good for me hahaah)
I haven’t even given the Raven Boys a chance yet, Which is so lame of me. I know I need to just bite the bullet. lol. I love all of her other books I’ve read! I think that if I had started Cinder before all the hype, I may have put it down initially. I really loved it, but more so when I got futher into it.
and in response to your comment on ours, do not be discouraged by the length of The Host. The beginning feels the longest, but when you get into it.. you fly through it. and Honestly, I didn’t want it to end. I would have been okay if it had been longer! I really loved that book hard core. :o)
btw, you are the only TTT i’m commenting on tonight. You are special! lol. Still trying to play catch up from being off the grid for a week. but you know how that goes since you just did it yourself!! 🙂 I adored seeing all of your comments when our ship finally pulled into port Sunday. I was like yes!!! internet!!
Llama Face!!!! That is all.
Code Name Verity made my list as well for the same reason. No one told me it started off so slow! Thankfully it got much better!
I keep thinking I will hate Cinder, but I just bought it anyway, trying to expand my horizons or something. Hopefully I will love it as much as you do! I totally agree with Shatter Me too- I loved loved loved Ignite Me, but it took me awhile to get into Shatter Me. Also, I am totally mad at myself for not seeing all those similarities with Aberrant. Well no, I mean, I did notice them, especially the Matched comparison, and then later the Hunger Games one. But why did I not see the whole thing as a huge rip off? I’ll chalk it up to reading it right after I’d had my son, maybe hormones fried my brain? Let’s go with that. Because looking back, you are 100% spot on. And now I am mad too!
I think I listened to three CD’s of Finnikin when I had the audio book out from the library once, but whilst things were happening, I just felt like it wasn’t going anywhere, if that is understandable. I felt really mediocre about it and never really slipped into the experience.
Oh well, YOU might enjoy it! I just, yup, nope. I had a horrible time. >.<
N'aww….dang. But each to their own, right?! No ONE book can appeal to everyone. I ADORE all things The Lunar Chronicles now, and I'm soooo freakishly excited for Heartless!!! EEEEP.
Really?! I had a bit of trouble getting into Dream Thieves because I'd forgotten details from Raven Boys, but then I loooved it. Just loved it all so so much. XD
Ohhh, the middle and then second half is just to die for. Har, har…sorry. I have to vent my feels in incredibly lame puns sometimes. >.< And you're not really a black sheep when it comes to Dream Thieves! I've heard a LOT of people Dnf'ing it and just plain not liking it. *shrugs* I'm in a minority probably! I gave it a 4. Just finished it just now. 😉
BUT I CAN ONLY RENEW THEM SO MANY TIMES BEFORE THE LIBRARY DEMANDS THEM OR A BLOOD SACRIFICE IN RETURN.
*parties quietly* HECK YEAH. I GET TO BE A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE. WHOOOP. XD Glad you're back, April! Although…I mean, sucks to finish a holiday. ;)Definitely do give Raven Boys a chance! It's a bit slow at the beginning, but I'm sooo in love with the characters it's hard to even function while reading, honestly. XD
STINKY LLAMA FACE.
I'm just glad I listened to the audio. 😉 I really struggled with the writing when I was trying to read it, but audio? Boom it was awesome.
Well, I hope you enjoy expanding your horizons. 😉 I know it's not for everybody but I'm a sucker for awesome characters and humour and…androids, apparently. Iko absolutely ROCKS. Ah….I just don't quite understand how Aberrant is even legal. It smells like a rat to me. Weirdly hugely too. *sigh* I wish I could wipe it from my brain, really.
The beginning is probably the worst of Finnikin! Ha, isn't that always the way? Beginning is too slow and the ending knocks your socks off?! I think you have to be in the mood for some epic fantasy though. I put down book #2 because I just wasn't feeling it.
The Death Cure, the third book in the Maze Runner trilogy was… BLEH. I DIDN'T. EVEN. CARE. I had to FORCE myself to finish it, and then the ending was so confusing and weird and random. I was so mad at Tris during Insurgent but the end was good. OH. OH. Crown of Midnight! That… SCENE with Chaol and Celaena… do not underestimate how angry I was with Sarah J. Maas. I put down the book and GLARED at it for like two days! But I was glad that I finished it. The ending was BIOTRHKLNRIOWGHNERIOGL.
Noooo, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT! XD Haha! I'm going to start that series ASAP. (Before the movie.) Hopefully I'll get through it, but it sucks with the 3rd book is just awful, right?!Nope. Still not alive after the ending of Crown of Midnight. I actually thought it was out of character that Celaena basically chose Nehima over Chaol, when she'd spent the WHOLE FREAKING BOOK angry at Nehima!! I mean, she was buddy-buddy with Chaol yet she didn't listen to him??? *growls* I'm absolutely dyyyying for Heir of Fire.
SO MUCH YES. The ending was POWERFUL(even though I had already guessed it) but they were SO out of character there for so long and I was so mad and frustrated. Anywho, yus. HEIR OF FIRE.
I love all of your picks for books you're glad you gave a chance…except Finnikin, but only because I haven't read it yet. 🙂 As for the ones you wish you'd stopped reading, I haven't read any of those, and if they're on my TBR, I'll make sure they're those that I pick up when I've read everything else I can possibly get my hands on. So, yeah…never. 🙂
Ha! Well, I like to say "give it a chance before you ditch it" buuuut, I feel VERY strongly about all those books I hated. >_< I totally don't recommend them at all. xD
I loved (loved, loved) Shatter Me. And then didn't like the second book. And I knew from your reviews that I was gonna hate number three. So I quit.
Really?! I'm opposite! That's so funny!
Thirteen Reasons Why made my list too!! I was SO angry at that book. I read your Goodread's review and agree 100%. The part that threw me into a rage though was when Hannah let the rape happen because she was too depressed to do anything about it and didn't even feel bad about it! Gah!! I can't think about it anymore lest I get all worked up again.
YAAAAY! ANOTHER THIRTEEN REASONS WHY DISLIKER!! Okay, that sounds warped of me, but I'm kind of partly horrified at how high the ratings are for that book. It makes me very uncomfortable to think it's considered a "good" story when I think the morals were way off balance. I was really distressed about it. And yeah, exactly for that rape scene. I mean, I didn't blame Hannah for any of her actions particularly….right up until she killed herself and sent those tapes. She couldn't possibly blame others for her depression like she did. It wasn't right! And I felt like the author was almost telling US (and everyone in the world) that we are responsible for people with depression. And we're not. We can't be. x) So thanks for agreeing with me. Hah! I was pretty worked up too.
So many books I haven't gotten the chance to get started on yet! But one I can agree on with you is Thirteen Reasons Why. There was just SO MUCH hype around this book when it first hit the stores, and everyone seemed to love it…but when I finally got my chance to read it, I couldn't see what people were loving about this one. It was as sad or dramatic as I hoped it would be. Anyways AWESOME post!Lisa http://www.turningpages94.blogspot.com
You and me both for 13 Reasons Why! >_< Yikes, I have never been more horrified at a book.
Oh the Raven Boys is one of the books I really, really want to read. I read The Dream Thieves first (I have a terrible habit of reading series out of order because my library rarely has the right books when I want them). Every time you mention it I send out a little wish that this time, this time the library will have it for me to steal…er, borrow. Without permission. But with no intention of being it back. One book I nearly put down, then read, then wished I hadn't read was Eragon. I know it's a really popular book, and there are plenty of people who love it, but it just wasn't the book for me. It felt so slow. And then Eragon himself didn't end up seeming like much of a hero to me ever. I made it to book two, and then just gave up after he started falling over with a mysterious disease every three pages. My sister made it through the whole series, and, when I forced her to tell me the ending, I figured it just wasn't the right series for me.Love the lists! You've inspired me to maybe think about joining in with this meme sometime. If I can think of a list of books relevant to the topic that is. Funny how my mind always goes blank when I need to come up with a list.
Also, comment number 42. I feel special now. Ok, done being random now!
Haha! You're not random. You're awesome. 😉 You read The Dream Thieves first though?!! I would have been SO confused! I mean, I was pretty confused with TDT and I'd read The Raven Boys. 😉 Anyway….complete LOVE for both of them. I think Maggie Stiefvater can't possibly write something that I'll hate now. She's the best. (Don't worry, I want to steal books from my library aaaall the time. But I don't because I still want for us to be friends.)You and me both for Eragon!
Awesome, awesome, awesome list Cait! I'm very happy you read Cinder all over again after returning it to the library. That series is one of my favorites as well, and now I'm the type who'll definitely buy anything whatever Marissa Meyer writes! Haha. I actually DNFed Finnikin of the Rock and Shatter Me, too >_< for various reasons, of course, but now I wonder if I shouldn't have been so rash D: I love it when you make lists, Cait. The personality you put in it is outstanding! :)Faye at The Social Potato Reviews
Finnikin definitely needed the right MOOD, I think. I couldn't handle it when I wasn't in an epic-fantasy kind of mood. Which is awkward, but hey! Mood reader! That could be a Thing. x)Awwww…really?! I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKE MY LISTS.
This was AWESOME! I should do one of these sometime, there are so many good and horrible books out there. I am even more certain that you have read way more books than I have…I haven't read any of the above O_OI'm not a big fan of creepy make-me-be-afraid-to-stay-home-alone books. I've read a few, and I was "Meh, no thanks" I like weird and fantastical though! Give me that any day 🙂
My list is a little pathetic, actually; I could only come up with three books ahaha. Is The Raven Boys worth reading? I borrowed it from the library ages ago, read a few pages, then handed it back before I read any more.
