The terrifying reality is this: I have 969 books I’d like to read.
If you follow me on goodreads (which you should because, I won’t lie, I’m fabulous), you’ll probably have noticed that I read a lot. And reading ONE book is like snowballing into the endless chasm that is literary goodness.*
I see a book and…I JUST HAVE TO READ IT.**
Which means this Top Ten Tuesday prompt is terrible for me, because if everyone is showing off books they’ve recently added to their TBR, no doubt I’ll add them too. And this list I’m about to show you? PREPARE FOR YOUR WISH-LISTS TO EXPLODE.
Thank me later.
* It’s totally like eating one chip. No one eats ONE CHIP.
** Particularly if this book is YA and involves delicious food.
This Week’s Prompt: Ten Books You Recently Added To Your To-Be-Read List
\\ Click on the covers to go to Goodreads //
1. DREAM STRIDER by Lindsay Smith
\\ publishing October 2015 //
Besides the obvious reason of adding this one (COVER LOVE), I read the words: “fantastical espionage novel” and “dreams are the ultimate form of political intelligence”. STOP EVERYTHING.
Espionage? Dreams? It also promises spies and nightmares. I need no more convincing.
2. VENGEANCE ROAD by Erin Bowman
\\ publishing September 2015 //
Okay, I admit. I only added this one because the cover was gorgeous. WHAT?! People are allowed to like pretty things. Look at Frodo! And Bilbo! And the pretty One Ring! That…was completely evil….
Um. Okay. Do not think about Frodo.
BUT! After closer inspection, the blurb promises “cutthroat days of the Wild West” which I can totally get onboard with.
3. A THOUSAND NIGHTS by E.K. Johnston
\\ publishing October, 2015 //
I need this for so many reasons:
- It’s about sisters. (YAY.)
- It’s a retelling…not 100% sure exactly what. But, from the blurb, I’m seeing the tale of Shahrazad and Beauty and the Beast.
- “The words she speaks…are given a strange life of their own.” DOES THIS MEAN IT IS THE NEXT INKHEART?!!
Woah. Timeout and give me this book.
4. ALICE AND THE FLY by James Rice
\\ published January, 2015 //
Basically cover love. I MEAN LOOK AT IT. It’s like an upside down house, or something, covered in yellow…leaves? And that poor human bean is hanging on by a window pane.
Plus the book also promises phobias and obsessions. Yes please and thank you.
5. THE REST OF US LIVE HERE by Patrick Ness
\\ publishing August, 2015 //
To be honest, I don’t care what this book is about. IT’S PATRICK NESS!! I have loved his books ever since I swallowed More Than This, quickly followed by A Monster Calls and then The Knife of Never Letting Go. His books have all been 4 and 5-star reads for me. I trust this dude to deliver awesomeness.
Also it’s about NOT being the hero, or the special one, or the “chosen one”, or the extraordinary one. Which is a hole in YA that needs filling for sure.
\\ publishing August, 2015 //
Which is basically being pitched as a YA Supernatural!! OH. MY. GOSH.
Although, to be honest, I get nervous when books are pitched as my favourite shows…but if anyone could pull it off, Derek Landy could. Each book I read of his (I’ve read 5 now) just gets better and better. And won’t this be his 10th book? 12th?! He’s only going to get more incredible.
Also the blurb promises a road trip and supernatural freakiness and it’s narrated by a girl, which pleases me greatly.
7. INK AND BONE by Rachel Caine
\\ Publishing July, 2015 //
Apparently this author is famous, but I haven’t read her. BUT THAT ASIDE! Do you know what it’s about? DO YOU?!!
“…a dangerous world where the Great Library of Alexandria has survived the test of time.”
STOP EVERYTHING. This book is already incredible. The fact that the Alexandria library was destroyed is like every bookworms’ horror story of indescribable sadness.
I mean, can you IMAGINE burning a library?!
\\ publishing November 2015 //
What is not to like about the look of this book?! Basically it promises:
- Zip-lining (I totally want to zip-line someday)
- Chinese Folklore (YAAAAY!)
- This “sound becomes her weapon” which I have no idea what means but sounds very promising.
- The cover is awesome.
- DID I MENTION CHINESE FOLKLORE?
9. THE FORBIDDEN WISH by Jessica Khoury
\\ publishing 2016 //
Basically ALADDIN. I have infinite love of all things Middle Eastern (I mean, have you eaten Naan bread?! YUM) and I particularly love retellings. Also the blurb is tiny, but it luringly says:
- It’s from the perspective of the genie WHO IS A GIRL
- It’s a forbidden romance (Genie + Aladdin = angst apparently)
- Because, you know, Aladdin has that thing for Jasmine.
- It’s a retelling.
- NAAN BREAD
(Okay, I’m kidding about the naan bread, the blurb actually doesn’t mention food at all, let alone specific bread. But I can live in hope.)
10. VELVET UNDERCOVER by Teri Brown
\\ publishing October, 2015 //
UM, YES TO SPIES. What?! I love espionage! Also this is set during World War 1, and the blurb is pretty darn delicious. It basically promises:
- Woman spies (HELLO people like Agent Carter)
- A teen girl who loves complex mathematics and puzzles
- Forbidden romance with a German dude (let’s all start singing Sound of Music, right?)
- BRITAIN. (Tea! Tea!)
- Complex missions involving velvet, spies, secrets, enemy territory…and probably tea. Like, I’m going out on a limb here, but the book IS British.
- DID I MENTION WOMAN SPIES?!
As you’ve no doubt picked up, I’m very excited for these books.
Most of them don’t come out forever. So basically the publishing world is murdering me, BUT STILL. I will wait rabidly patiently.
And probably continue adding books to my TBR. Why have 969 when I can have 999, am I right?!
SO! what books have you recently added to your goodreads? are you adding any of mine? (which one are you most excited for out of mine!) and be honest now…do you add books on Goodreads because of BLURB or COVER?
Cait @ Paper Fury
…is currently reading posts in the link up and basically flooding her Goodreads with more pretty books. Oh, and yes, she mostly adds books because of cover and basic premise. She barely ever reads blurbs, which can be a problem, but pfft, blurbs are for the weak. ANYWAY. Currently she’s still plodding through Game of Thrones. Lots of people are dead.
WOW! Love your list, I definitely must thank you *hands you piece of cake*
I have heard so many great things about Derek Landy’s Skulduggery series.
Velvet Undercover by Terri Brown looks amazing, I mean spies. espionage. *fangirls*
And I must say I do add things to goodreads because of their blurb, but what catches my eye about them at first is definitely their covers! So yes I do judge books by their covers most of the time *bows head in shame*
Loved reading your list.
Check out mine: http://simplybookishthings.blogspot.com/2015/03/t…
NO SHAME IN COVER JUDING! Well. Actually, probably it is shameful of us, but I'm right there with you. 😉 #coverjudger
Demon Road is definitely on my to-read list. Soundless sounds original, i just hope it’s not heavy with romance. The next Lee Child/Jack Reacher is one i’m really looking forward to, as is Finders Keepers by Stephen King. The Last Star by Rick Yancey and The Devil’s Only Friend by Dan Wells a couple of others.
I NEED to read a Rick Yancey book!! I seriously can't believe I haven't tried The 5th Wave yet.
*scuttles off to add all these amazing sounding books to my TBR pile* I BLAME YOU IF MY TBR KILLS ME.
I BLAME ME IF MY TBR KILLS ME. If I ever go missing, look under a pile of books.
*adds literally all of these to my TBR* ALSO THE LAST TIME I LOOKED AT INK AND BONE IT DIDN’T HAVE A TITLE SO I’M EXCITED NOW (although there are too many titles about bones, tbh, what’s WITH that?). Also Dream Strider sounds awesome. Ahhhh so many books I hadn’t even considered!
I know right?! BONES are apparently very catchy. We young adult readers just adore morbidity.
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO MAKE THIS LIST?!? I just added Soundless (because Chinese folklore) and The Forbidden Wish (because I just started reading the Magi manga which plays with Arabian tales like Aladdin and Alibaba and the forty thieves so another Aladdin book is totally needed…also, when was the last time you heard the words ‘female genie’?).
Usually, I pick books based on blurb. Or recommendation/review – I read All Fall Down because of what Jess over at My Reading Dress said about it and it’s the best book I’ve read so far this year. I picked the Sin-Eater’s Daughter (still on my TBR…) on title and cover though.
BECAUSE I LOVE TO TORMENT YOU. I know right, though?! I love it when they gender bend roles, because I'm tiiiired of hearing about dude genies. LET'S HEAR ABOUT GIRLS. *ahem*(I wanted the Sin Eater's Daughter on title/cover, too. XD)
A Thousand Nights is a retelling of A Thousand and One Nights AKA the Arabian Tales. 🙂 Same as The Wrath and The Dawn. I love that cover so much. Dream Strider reminds me of the Raven Boys series covers.
I’m definitely into Alice and The Fly, The Rest of Us Live Here and The Forbidden Wish now. 🙂 More Middle Eastern books please<3 I was just looking at Velvet Undercover, I wish the GR rating was higher, but it has a while to get there. I only add books based on the blurb, if it has a pretty cover, I'll just write the title down.
I'll be doing my list later. 🙂
YAY. So it definitely is Shaharazad then! Becuase I know The Wrath and the Dawn is Sharazad (I seriously can't spell it…but you know what I mean. xD) Omg, why aren't there more Middle Eastern fantasy books?! I NEED TO READ THEM.
A Thousand Nights sounds pretty interesting and it has been added to my TBR. This week’s theme is so bad for my never ending list! Happy readings 🙂
Great list! I recently added the rest of the Lunar Chronicles series to my TBR. Since I have finally read Cinder, I need to read the rest of the series. 🙂
Cinder is AMAZING, right?! Although, tbh, I actually originally DNF'd it .>_< I'm glad I came to my senses…
THE REST OF US JUST LIVE HERE! Can we just please hijack Mr Ness and JUST AUTOMATICALLY GET ALL HIS BOOKS EVER. (Also: cover love seems to be a trend here…which I have to agree with, we all must always love pretty things).
We are all shallow cover-loving bookworms. 😉 AND I KNOW RIGHT/?!! I NEED THAT NESS BOOK ASAP.
I think the book a thousand nights might be a retelling of the arabian nights? 😀 Not sure too.
My Top Ten Tuesday
Ohhh, that makes sense! *nods* Either way, I want it badly.
Goodreads is an evil website, and THAT IS A FACT. Seriously, though. It seems like for every one book I read, I add like five books to my TBR because of Goodreads. My bookworm self doesn’t like being tortured like that. I am so excited for Velvet Undercover because historical fiction, World War I and intelligent girl spies mix so well for me. I do not, however, appreciate how long I have to wait for this book to come out. *glares at publication date* 🙂
IT IS. It should be totally outlawed because my TBR is not helping itself. IT IS GROWING WORSE. I'm glaring at all the publication dates. WHY MUST PUBLISHERS TANTALISE US SO EARLY?
I have so much love for this list! I definitely have to add these to my TBR, like, RIGHT NOW! *runs off to Goodreads* I’m particularly excited for all the retellings, which I just adore. Especially Middle Eastern ones (absolutely agree, Naan bread is FANTASTIC!) Oh, and women spies? Yes, please!
I must confess, I’m drawn to nice covers and titles a lot. That’s definitely my #1 reason to add books on Goodreads. But I swear I also read the blurb! At least, I try to. Sometimes… Ok, you got me, it’s mostly the covers, but I can’t help it if I like pretty things!
Middle Eastern fantasies are definitely NOT written enough!! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. (And naan, like, I mostly love naan, but I try to broaden my horizons of infatuation. *nods*)
Wow, I think my TBR of about 80 books is big enough but over 900? That scares me more because I think I’m missing out on loads of fantastic books now.
Soundless sounds brilliant, it’s on my TBR now. I’ve recently added a few books I discovered at the UKYA Extravaganza; Sleepless by Lou Morgan, Blackfin Sky by Kat Ellis, Crow Moon by Anna McKerrow and Lies Like Love by Louisa Reid, which I’ve just received a copy of and I’m so excited to read.
I knoooow I have a PROBLEM here. *cries* But I just can't stop adding books!! and sequels. And like everything by one author. *sigh* Goodreads is life but also death, funnily enough.
Great list! I’ve added so many of these to my own tbr! We do share Ink and Bone, though. 🙂
Check out TTT.
We clearly have epic taste. 😉
I’ve just added Ink and Bone to my wishlist. Honestly I could have added all of the books you’ve chosen but I’m *trying* to be sensible today… I doubt it’ll last long! x
GOOD FOR YOU. I was just not sensible at all. xD I'm adding so many things from reading other people's blogs!!
You are so evil…… why did you go and make me add an extra TEN books to my TBR pile! Bad Cait!
Ok, only joking, good Cait! You’ve done your job well my friend, almost too well and I honestly have added the majority of the books you’ve just listed to my own TBR pile……. help me please!
My TTT – Thea @ Gizzimomo’s Book Shelf
I'M SORRY BUT I'M NOT EVEN SORRY. XD haha. There are jus toooo many awesome books!!
Why do you have to do this to me? Why? Now I just want to add every single book on here to my already overflowing pile.
I don’t drink tea. That makes me sad. There needs to be a book about hot chocolate someday.
Because paaaaaain. And ANGUISH. If I have to flap over all these books I can't possibly read enough of, then YOU CAN SUFFER WITH ME. Fair is fair. ;-)(I want a book about hot chocolate too because I don't drink tea.)
CAIT. THAT IS MORE BOOKS ON YOUR TBR SHELF THAN I HAVE ON MY ENTIRE GOODREADS. STOP OR I WILL STAGE AN INTERVENTION.
That said, I’m stupidly excited about The Rest of Us Just Live Here. AND Ink and Bone. I need them like I need air. And I’m very much “a blurb + reviews from trusted people” add-to-TBR-pile-er. If that makes sense. I mean, I’ll add books from authors I adore (like Patrick Ness and Rainbow Rowell and Sarah J Maas), authors where I would literally read their shopping lists. Those authors I’ll add without a second chance. But unfamiliar authors? Those need the blurb AND recommendations from people who I tend to agree with on books. Because I’m a book snob. Or something.
WELL, IT'S PROBABLY TOO LATE FOR AN INTERVENTION NOW ANYWAY. Especially since reading more TTT posts has NOT helped me. *gulps* 1000 is a nice number?
I haven’t heard of a single one of these. Which means you’ve now got me interested in a whole new stack of books! Soundless and ink and bone are the two drawing most of my attention.
Doesn't it just look ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS?!! I seriously want to eat a bookshop at this point. And huuuuurry up to those release dates! XD
WOAH GIRL. YOU HAVE MORE BOOKS ON YOUR TBR THAN I DO. And I thought I had a terrifying amount of about 800!
I’ve eaten one chip before. Does that make me weird?
YAY FOR A NEW PATRICK NESS BOOK. And I’m pretty sure I have Ink & Bone on my TBR… *checks* YUP! Yay! I might also definitely add Dream Strider to my list… ack, it just keeps getting longer and longer… I might actually catch up to you, Cait! :O
Mostly I judge on covers (I know, I’m horrible) but I usually have to like the blurb as well… Sometimes I’ll overlook the blurb, but I mostly need to love the idea!
OH YOU'LL CATCH UP SOON. There, there, it only takes a few clicks and BOOM. You shall be in the 900s like me. :')
Demon Road is a book i hadn’t forever ago mentally but only recently on Goodreads, so I didn’t think it counted, but that’s exciting, and latter, Velvet Undercover, I’ve seen it once and though ‘ooo, you look nice, I shall look at you’ and just haven’t, but it does sound fantastical! I’m loving your list Cait, as always, you have such a variety of cultures and themes and genres, such diversity in your reads, and future reads, good luck munchkin!<3
EEEP. I do read quite randomly widely don't I?! Anything from contemporary to HF to sci-fi…I JUST WANT TO READ IT ALL. XD And Velvet Undercover looks so so gorgeous. I didn't actually know about it until I was perusing goodreads, and you know….one click leads to another and then HELLO 1000 BOOKS ON MY TBR. (Well, not quite yet, but it's coming.)
woah some of these sound amazing! like the one with the woman spies. Also, I don’t know about middle eastern, and I’m wrong a lot, but naan bread is also pretty indian. I love middle eastern food (I actually love most food)
I googled! SO I BLAME GOOGLE. Apparently it originated in Persia?! But that was Wikipedia, so, um, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it could be wrong. 😉
All of the books look lovely! I may just have to had them to my TBR as well 🙂 I am VERY excited about Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson and Ink and Bone (it was on your status update) Bone Gap, Written in the Stars and Skulduggery Pleasant 5. Which I will get around to. I should write a post about all the things in the equation when getting hold of books- library, kindle, goodreads etc.
I have like 223 goodreads tbr books, approximately 7 books to read in the next week (of holiday! really its studying for exams and babysitting, but I’m calling it holiday anyway, because school is not in the equation)
BONE GAP YES! That nearly got on this list, but dang it ,I only could choose 10. *sigh* Ohhh, you're up to Skulduggery 5?! THAT ONE IS REALLY TOUGH ON THE FEELS!!! I loved it, of course. xD Best so far! I've got book 6 out from the library and I'm going to read it over Easter. ^_^
Ahhh sounds like we’re excited for a lot of the same books! VELVET UNDERCOVER. I must read it! I mean spies AND it’s set during WWI, which is one of my favorite historical time periods and HARDLY EVER GETS BOOKS. I’m also looking forward to The Rest of Us Just Live Here(Patrick Ness!) and Vengeance Road(WESTERN YA, MUST HAVE, PRETTY COVER). Gah there are so many good books in our futures Cait!(I hope).
EXACTLY!! WHERE ARE THE NEW AND SHINY HISTORICAL FICTION BOOKS?! WE WANT THEM. Although, too true, I think WWII gets the most books. And no one cares about WWI?! I DO. Ahem. So yes. All the books…me wants. 😉
That last one…I need to read that last one now.And it’s coming out in October, which gives me one more thing to look forward too this fall. Like fifty books. And Doctor Who. And Sherlock, ‘though that’s not until December and it doesn’t officially start until January.
But anyway…great list!
OH DID YOU SAY SHERLOCK!!? Okay, I'm a horrible fan, but I really really want to see the next season but I don't actually know when it's coming out! I OUGHT TO GOOGLE AND MARK IT ON MY CALENDAR. The teasers on facebook are torture. *hyperventilates*
They’re doing a Christmas special that’s going to be Sherlock in Victorian England, and then the official season starts up in January. I can’t wait that long!
OKAY NOW I AM JUST WILDLY EXCITED!!
Great list! I haven’t heard of any of these titles before but they all sound fantastic, and some of the covers look gorgeous too 🙂
I always fall for the gorgeous covered ones. 😉
Oh! Soundless! I just put that in my TBR after seeing it in someone else’s post haha. I agree with you there, the cover of Vengeance Road is simply beautiful!
It's like an EXPLOSION of art! I just love the Vengeance one!!
Gosh, my TBR is really going to flourish under this TTT topic. Which is both good… and bad. BOOKS ARE TOTALLY LIKE CHIPS.
I just added (because of your post) Ink and Bone, Soundless, Velvet Undercover, and A Thousand Nights. Woo!
You ask if I add books based on covers and blurbs? WHY YES YES I DO.
I used to add books solely on recommendations from friends/trusty bloggers. But now it’s a threefold thing: recommendations, covers, and blurbs. SO YES.
Good and bad, gah, that is the bane of my reading life. I WANT TO DO A POST COMPARING BOOKS TO CHIPS NOW, OKAY?! Like which genre equals which flavour. XD Although I did do that for pizza a long time ago so I wonder if I can get away with it…. hm… It's chips. It should work.
Well, 2 of the books on your list were already on my TBR list, but I just added 6 more books and you are to blame.
……………
………
……Thank you?
YOU ARE SO SO WELCOME. YOUR TBR THANKS ME. :')
Almost all of these are new to me. DAMN YOU CAIT. Now my to-read list will be even larger *cries in a corner*
That cover of Dream Strider… It’s so beautiful! I need it. And Velvet Undercover sounds so good as well. And the Forbidden Wish. And A Thousand Nights. And Ink & Bone. SIGH
*cries in the corner with you**offers you chips**reads books and eats chips*
Wait, now you tell me some of these aren’t coming out for a while? Cait, you’ve ruined my life!
A Thousand Nights sounds amazing! Seriously. I must read this book.
The Rest of Us Just Live Here, what a title for a book that’s not about the hero. That’s so perfect. How do people come up with this stuff?! I need to know this secret of making titles. And I want to know how he’s going to pull it off when it’s not about the hero.
Dream Strider’s cover is the best out of them all. I think I would read it for the cover alone. (Call it shallow, but curiosity is one of the strongest forces in the world, okay?)
I RUINED MY LIFE TOO. If that's any consolation? Like, seriously, I want it to be August right now. RIGHT NOW. *stamps foot*I wish I could make awesome titles. GAh. My books are, no joke, titled things like “Six” and “Blood”. I MEAN REALLY?! I have problems.
These all sound really awesome. 🙂 I might add a few…or ten…
DO IT. You won't regret it. Or, well, you totally will, but hey if I ever go missing, look for me under an enormous pile of books.
Oh! Dream strider looks pretty awesome, I am also sold on the spies/nightmares combo. Ink & Bone also needs to be on my list, I want to live in a world where the library survived!
Great picks 🙂
Wouldn't it be incredible to go visit the Alexander Library?!! (Were it..um…still around.) FICTIONAL BUCKET LIST HERE WE COME.
Have not heard of The Forbidden Wish before but YES DO WANT
YOU DO WANT IT. YOU TOTALLY DO.
FIRST OFF CAIT OMG, I just added 10 more books to my TBR pile and I am SKINT and will be my whole life so not thanks to you but they aLL LOOK AMAZING I CANT HELP IT.
Also, ‘NAAN BREAD’?! As an asian that eats the aforementioned food at least twice a week..WHY IS THIS EXCITING? ;P
I ONLY PICK THE BEST BOOKS. I DO. YOU CAN TRUST ME (and blame me?) FOR INCREASING YOUR TBR. SO SO WELCOME. I feel like I've now put HUGE pressure on that book to deliver naan. IT BETTER HAVE NAAN, is all I can say.
Ooh, I really love the premise for Ink and Bone!
Isn't it so fantastic?! and the cover too…*swoons*
These all look good. But oh boy howdy I am STOKED for Ink & Bone. I read Caine’s Romeo & Juliet retelling, Prince of Shadows, and it was surprisingly AWESOME.
I think Ink & Bone is like the most popular from this list this week!!
#1 and #3 are on my list this week. #7 is on my Goodreads TBR list already, and I added #8 and #9 today. So… thanks. I think.
I go by the blurb. Covers may be pretty, but I’ve been misled too many times.
Oh, also, book #10 there got me to thinking about this new show on Canadian TV that you’d probably love (not sure if you’re able to get things like that in Australia, but I thought I’d throw it out there). Called X-Company, it’s about a group of young spies who carry out missions in Nazi-occupied France. They’re from Britain, Canada, and the U.S.A. One of them has synesthesia, and their de facto leader is a woman… so already the characters are interesting. If you’re into TV at all, you might like this particular show. (I don’t think it was based on a book… though it was based on an actual Canadian spy program that operated during WWII.)
Oh. my. gosh. I am looking up X-Company ASAP (I have no idea if I'll be able to watch it but I MUST FIND OUT) because spiiiiies. I love spy things. I ADORE SPY THINGS.
YOU ARE SO WELCOME. If your TBR collapses on your head, blame me. ;-)(You are so much wiser than me, by reading blurbs. I am such a SUCKER for covers and Ig et burnt a lot.)
I’m wanting to read most of these books now! I think ‘A Thousand Nights’ is a retelling of ‘Arabian Nights’, Persian folklore and all that.
And oh, I KNOW! These books aren’t coming out forever! I’m waiting for some coming out in May, and that’s already too far away.
ohhh that makes sense for A Thousand Nights. Still basically Sharazad though, right? Wtih the Persian folklore? EITHER WAY I'M EXCITED.
A Thousand Nights didn’t make my list, but oohhhh the cover is just to die for! The story too seems really great! I can’t believe I didn’t include Patrick Ness’ new novel, but I want to read it as well since I absolutely adore A Monster Calls. I hope you enjoy all of your books!!
It sounds a LOT like The Wrath and the Dawn, but I DON'T EVEN CARE I WANT THEM ALL. *hyperventilates because books*
I haven’t actually heard of any of these! Oh except soundless… Pretty sure I’ve heard of that before, and I’m super excited for it. Will have to check these out when I get a minute!
THEY ALL LOOK INCREDIBLE AND I MAY BE FANGIRLING IRRATIONALLY OVER HERE.
Oh Dream Strider sounds intriguing and that cover is definitely original. Soundless is already on my to-read list, because Richelle Mead. Next time I have some book money I am pre-ordering this. Will check out some of the other books you mentioned as I haven’t heard of them before. There are so many good books being released this year, so far half of the books I read this year have been 2015 new releases.
I actually haven't read any Richelle Mead yet. *gasps* I need to I SO NEED TO. She sounds incredible, but I'm not the world's biggest vampire fan. I AM a fan of ziplinging, however, so I want Soundless so badly. xD
So many books, so little time…*sigh* I’m actually glad that most of these books won’t come out for a while, because my TBR is already massive as it is (but not as massive as yours, though). I usually add books based on their covers because COVERS. But if the cover is kind of ugly, and the blurb sounds really exciting, I’ll still add it. Most of the books you have on here are already on my TBR, so I didn’t have much adding to do 😛
I CAN’T WAIT FOR INK AND BONE, THOUGH.
Exactly. COVERS. Covers are gorgeous and (usually) artistic and just all round awesome. Neeeeed in my life. (Is it weird to want to frame covers? *dreamy sigh*)
We definitely had some in common on our lists! And yes. I add them because of covers all the time. I’m only mildly ashamed to admit that. I just added Dreamstrider to my tbr because OHMYGOD IT SOUNDS SO INCREDIBLE. It’s so far away. Also love the sound of Ink and Bone!
OMG I CANNOT EVEN FUNCTION BECAUSE I'M FLAILING TOO HARD. I really really want to read them ALL.
Thanks so much, Cait, for forcing me to grow my TBR pile by one. Maybe I’ll be lucky and win the GoodReads giveaway for Ink and Bone.
Your TBR is so so welcome. 😉 (I would looove to win a Goodreads giveaway one day!)
Okay, your TBR is twice the size of mine, but mine is probably about to grow a little more after seeing your picks…I’m definitely picking up that Derek Landy book because it sounds AMAZING.
Derek Landy is already incredible and I basically want to try ALL THE BOOKS HE EVER WRITES. *calms self*
Wow this list just majorly upped my TBR list number because there are so many that I want to read! Demon Road and Dream Strider especially! Such a great list of potentially addicting books.
Demon Road looks soooo fantastic. I mean, it doesn't have a cover BUT I STILL WANT IT BADLY.
Soundless looks amazing! I hate to wait until November to get a hold of it! 🙁 Anyway, I’m excited to read Richelle Mead; I’ve still got to crack open my copy of Vampire Academy! 🙂
Agh! I know, right?! The release dates on most of these are sooo far away. IT'S TORTURE WAITING.
I do the SAME. If I see any book I’m even remotely interested in, I’ll add it to my goodreads shelf. Even sequels, when I haven’t even read the first one.
Urgh. New releases and covers are my kyrptonite. I’ve seen a few of things floating around. (meaning: their on my goodreads shelf.) But Alice and the fly and a thousand nights seems super interesting. And their covers are so pretty!
OH GOOD. I am not alone. XD I feel like Goodreads is a good way to keep a list of what I want to read. So I'm not picky about it at all. xD Although, well, sometimes I do go and clear off books. But not often enough, apparently. *glares at 900+ books*
Velvet Undercover looks SUPER good! Woman spies? WWI? This is everything I’ve ever wanted! Now I have to wait til October. Dang it! Great list!
-Monica @ Tomes Project
There are totally NOT enough WWI books, I reckon! I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT.
I love your blog it’s so cool looking. And yeah I mostly add books to my tbr typically based on their covers, I just love the pretty covers, I can’t help myself. I don’t even care what the book is about half the time I just want it because it’s pretty. I added Dreamstrider now thanks to you – the cover omg – and it sounds like something I’d really enjoy. I hope you like it to and the rest of your tbr.
Aww, thanks, Keely! I AM GRINNING LIKE A CHESHIRE CAT BECAUSE YOU LIKE MY BLOG. XD Oh cover love is just the best AND worse, because it can let me do so so fast, but I can't stop judging books by their covers!!
AWESOME LIST. The Rest of Us Just Live Here is one that I’m highly anticipating! I have read and LOVED Patrick Ness’s The Knife of Never Letting Go series. It was literally the best. I finished each book in a day and I have no regrets! I only recently heard of Dream Strider, but it sounds so interesting!
Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian
OH oh I still need to finish the Chaos Walking trilogy, but it's pretty high on my TBR. xD I LOVED BOOK 1 ALOT.
YES TO ALL OF THESE! To be honest I hadn’t heard of any of them before you mentioned them, but now I am so excited to read them!
I think the one I’m most anticipated for is The Forbidden Wish. Because Aladdin from the perspective of the genie? THAT’S AWESOME. But add in the “genie-is-a-girl-and-crushing-on-Aladdin” subplot and my excitement gets so much higher. This sounds like such an awesome concept for a retelling!
And of course, I’m excited for The Rest of Us Live Here because…PATRICK NESS! I absolutely adore his books, and this one sounds like it will be no exception. I love how it’s the story of a boy that’s normal, not a stereotypical zombie-fighting / government-overthrowing superhero or whatnot. It makes it so much better on a realistic level, you know?
CAIIITT…YOU ALWAYS MAKE MY TBR LIST SHOOT UP INSANELY. *scowls*
Haha – just kidding. I always love your book recommendations! <3
I knoooow, right?!! GIRL GENIES FTW. I am ridiculous excited for this book. xD PATRICK NESS IS JUST A GENIUS THAT IS ALL. HA. Your tbr is thanking me. Probably glaring at me, BUT NO. DEFINITELY THANKING ME.
The name of this post says it all…
EXACTLY.
I’m really mad because you just LAID OUT a bunch of AMAZING BOOKS with their AMAZING COVERS and you know what? They’re all published sometime MONTHS FROM NOW in 2015. Like really? REALLY? I CAN’T EVEN READ THESE BECAUSE THEY’RE NOT FREAKING PUBLISHED. Like that new Patrick Ness book or Dream Strider or Alice and the Fly. I’m just going to sit in my corner and cry now.
I KNOW. THE PAIN IS REAL. THE TORTURE IS EXTREME. BUT BLAME THE PUBLISHERS NOT ME. I AM INNOCENT. Okay, I'm totally not innocent. But if I have to be in pain about their existence, SO SHOULD YOU. *nods*
This list is so on point! All of these were either on my TBR already (great minds think alike) but I also added a few. There seems to be a lot of historical fiction coming out lately which makes me quite happy (:
Omg! Dreamstrider is one of the few I heard of till you mentioned it. But ahhhh, it sounds right up my alley. I love spy stories, they’re have the potential to be so complex, political intricacy and usually have the ambiguous grey line. I have heard of the other spy title on this lovely list though, Velvet Intricacy. And it’s historical! An added bonus. I never made the connection to Agent Carter though, however now that you pointed it out I can’t stop. I love that TV show, Peggy is literal goals. I love her backhand comments at the misogyny that surrounds her.
Vengeance Road! I requested this ARC and my request was recently accepted 😀 so utterly excited. It looks so amazing, and I completely adore the cover like you. AND THE WILD WEST. Sounds like a super fun historical fiction and I really do have high hopes.
Girl…A Thousand Nights is probably a retelling of well- A Thousand Nights ;p better known as Arabian Nights. That ring a bell?? Hah. I never heard of this one, but it’s a retelling which is a sub-genre I adore so I’m excited. I heard of the other retelling on your list, The Forbidden Wish. I completely adore Disney’s Aladdin so i’m intrigued to read this version of it. It’ll be interesting to see if I’ll be able to root for this girl genie instead of my favorite princess ever… Jasmine :p
Soundless and Ink & Bone are ones I’ve been anticipating for quite some time. Both sound super unique (which is saying something) in the YA genre. I can’t wait to see how both are pulled off. And you know me girl, just recently went ziplining so just that bit made me smile for Soundless. Also definitely supportive of that diversity in that one, don’t know much about Chinese folklore so I’m interested in learned. AND AHHH INK & BONE questions something that I’ve been wondering forever. Imagine how far we could be ahead if that library hadn’t been burnt down fdklsjfldskjfkldjfl
Demon Road is a new one for me. But, I do love Supernatural (seasons 1-5 are easily the best shhh, not a huge fan of the newer ones) so for once that annoying blurb comparison thingy calls to me. It sounds like this one could be brilliant if pulled off well. You also seem to have a lot of faith in the author (never read his books) so that makes me feel like the writer definitely can make this supernatural-ish plot work.
Great picks girl <33
Ohhh Agent Carter is like THE BEST. I was so so impressed with the ending and they better make a S2 or I will, possibly, scream. XD Although the ending…*shakes fist at Thompson* STILL. Peggy is like my ultimate hero. HA HA. Yes. *facepalm* I don't know why I didn't think of Arabian Nights. It's embarrassingly obvious now. GAH. But, to be fair to me (heh), Shaharazad is part of those folktales so I'm like, halfway right. WHAT. HOW COULD YOU NOT LIKE THE LATEST SUPERNATURALS? *CRIES* hehe, okay I SHALL FORGIVE YOU. I'm awfully nice like that. i've kind of turned into this fan that will just like anything and everything. hehe. obsessed fan? NAH. (Yes.)
I’m having a case of MASSIVE cover love going on in this list of yours here. Also, I need to read them all!! They all sound so fantastic! Particularly the Aladdin retelling (obviously because my actual name is Jasmin =) ) and the Inkheart-ish one. My TBR list just grew considerably. =P
YOUR TBR IS SO SO WELCOME. :')
Cait, I love your top ten Tuesdays. Something about lists, I think. =)
Could A Thousand Nights be a retelling of Arabian Nights? Which I know nothing about but I think it is what Aladdin is loosely based on?
I’m picky about my TBR list on Goodreads. I only add books on there that I find on the internet that I’m afraid of forgetting about. I kind of like not having a set plan for the next book I’m going to read.
I LOVE LISTS. So this is very very pleaseful news. XD heh. And yesss gah! I don't know why I didn't think of Arabian Nights, it seems SO obvious now. *facepalm*
I sometimes add books because of their amazing covers. I actually don’t read blurbs that much… I like hearing just the gist of the book and reading what other readers have to say. That being said… Dreamstrider and Vengeance Road have such unique, gorgeous covers! I’m also really excited for A Thousand Night because I slurp up retellings. Ink and Bone sounds fantastic — libraries FTW! Soundless is probably the book I’m fangirling over the most. I can’t contain myself whenever I see it! And Velvet Undercover also looks great — spies, espionage, World War I… sounds good to me! 😀
SAME! Pitch + cover = me reading the book. All I want to know is that it's about the Library of Alexandria and then I'm done. I just want to read it. I guess less is more for knowledge sometimes? x) (And some blurbs can actually be a bit spoilery which is frustrating.)
GOOD NEWS! These were all already on my TBR!! YAY. So I mean, there are two things this shows us: One- we both have very good taste in books, clearly. And two- we both have kind of ridiculously large TBRs, but that is okay.
Maybe someone could help and give me The Rest of Us Just Live Here now? I mean, I need it, badly. Also, Dreamstrider. And Vengeance Road. Oh nevermind, I need them all.
IT IS OKAY! We shall just focus on that part about us having, clearly, great tastes in books. *nods*
Your excitement is contagious. I added Ink and Bone to my over 2000 books TBR. So, thanks for that! hehehe 🙂 Happy reading https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/03/31/top-…
OMG OVER 2000?! OKAY. YOU WIN. XD
These books are literally beautiful! Such lovely covers! I especially like A Thousand Night because of the colors but they all look amazing. I hope they turn out to be great reads, too. 🙂 I recently added The Wishing Spell, Anatomy of a Misfit and I’ll Meet You There which are all recommendations from friends.
I have insane amounts of cover love towards them. XD Ooh, Anatomy of a Misfit is quite good!!
YES. YES TO ALL OF THESE. Why are there so many great books coming out??? Not that I’m complaining a bit, but I fear my TBR list will suffer greatly. I’m especially excited for The Forbidden Wish. Because it looks EPIC.
I'M COMPLAINING. xD Ha! Okay, I'm not complaining, but I kind of am crying because I can't possibly read all these epic books. GAH.
“WOW!” That was my reaction as soon as I saw your first book on the list Dream Strider, outloud, very loud. OMG! Thank you for helping me find this! 😀 Alice and the Fly looks very very interesting so also adding that one to my list ♥ And finally Ink and Bones, I’m still waiting and waiting to read it. I added it to my list long ago when it started to be promoted. I’m sooo looking forward to it! Amazing list!
I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO ALL OF THEM AN ASTRONOMICAL AMOUNT!! *flails*
Dreamstrider & Vengence Road both look and sound AMAZING! It hurts that we are going to have to wait until September/October for them both 🙁
I’m so glad I popped on by because your list is just great! The Rest of Us Just Live Here looks awesome and Demon Road: girl version of Supernatural, hells yes!
I don’t know if the whole illegal & black market books thing in Ink and Bone is terrifying or fascinating, but either way I want to read it!
Really great list! Happy Reading 🙂
YES IT HURTS A LOT. I try not to wish my life away, but daaaaang. I want to read these books so bad. XD
Recently I just added The Rest of Us Just Live Here from your list. The rest I already have on my tbr (except for the contemps/mysteries which are not my thing).
I can’t pick if I am more excited for Soundless because of Chinese folklore or for Ink and Bone because the Great Library survived the fire.
Honestly, if the cover is good and I like the genre I don’t even read the blurb/summary, I just add it. 😀
I CAN'T PICK BETWEEN ANY OF THESE! I'm really super excited for more Chinese folklore-ish fantasies. xD I just finished Eon and I looooved the fantasy world.
You are right. You sure didn’t help my TBR – haha. Who could resist a YA Supernatural??? I put Vengeance Road on my radar last week after seeing the cover so I completely understand. You certainly have some pretty good books listed here.
SORRY NOT SORRY TO YOUR TBR. XD 😉 And yesss, exactly! The YA Supernatural calls to me so so loudly.
I do not know any of these books! I am not adding more books very fast, I probably only have a hundred or so I would like to read. These books sound interesting, though, so I look forward to seeing if any are awesome rock-stars.
Only 100?! I ADMIRE YOU. I have no self-control. I just want to read everything.
I add a lot of books solely for the cover! It doesn’t always work out well for me, but oh well. What can I say, I like pretty things.
I think A Thousand Nights looks AMAZING. I definitely like the retelling aspect. And Soundless looks awesome, though I’ve never read Mead’s books before. That cover is gorgeous, too.
Hehe, it doesn't work out so well for me either a lot but I can't STOP adding books just on cover love alone!! I get so addicted to those shiny, pretty covers. xD
I like the cover for Dream Strider-it is very striking. I haven’t read any of the books on your list and I refuse to add anything to tbr or wishlist this week! Oh wait, I added two books this morning to tbr…meh, I’m doomed!
Ooh, good for you, I guess. 😉 Keeping that TBR under control. XD I have no self-control!!
Great list. A lot of these are new to me, so I’ll have to check them out. (Then I’ll have to get irritated at you for making my TBR list even longer.) 🙂
YOU ARE SO SO WELCOME FOR THIS INFO-DUMP OF AWESOME UPCOMING BOOKS. :')
I have 930 books on my TBR. Which is ridiculous. I think when it hits 1,000, I will do some serious culling.
I had no idea Richelle Mead had another book coming out before The Eye of Andromeda! Adding it to my TBR because 1) It’s RIchelle Mead and 2) You say it’s about Chinese folklore, and the cover has an ACTUAL ASIAN WOMAN on the cover, and not a white woman who could maybe, possibly, sort of appear to have Asian features after you’ve had a few drinks and if you only take a quick, passing glimpse.
Love the covers for Vengeance Road and Dream Strider (hadn’t heard of this one), and I love the title, The Rest of Us Just Live Here.
*hi fives for oversized tbrs* I FEEL LESS ALONE NOW. XD Sometimes I do cullings, but…tbh, I just really want to read a lot of books. I…I have to confess…I actually haven't ever read a Richell Mead book, but I know she's written like #249802 of them, so I figure she's an epic writer. XD
You, lady, are a horrible person to tease us book junkies with such pretty books. I know you warn us but I thought you were just being dramatic! BUT NO. I NOW HAVE THREE NEW ADDITIONS TO MY 600+ TBR LIST
YES YES I AM MEAN AND CRUEL, BUT TOTALLY NOT SORRY. 😉 Your tbr loves me, you know it does.
NAAN BREAD. WITH CHICKEN CURRY. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my chin.
Ahem. Books. SO MANY GOOD BOOKS. I just added like 8 of these to my to-read list. ROADTRIPS. GENIES. SPIES. ALL THE GOOD THINGS. You’re going to be my financial ruin. I hope you’re happy. (It’s okay, I forgive you if the books are awesome.) Also, your Goodreads account gives me an inferiority complex haha
I WANT NAAN BREAD AND CHICKEN CURRY AND IT'S LIKE 10PM WHERE I AM, BUT YOU'VE GOTTEN ME CRAVING IT ALL OVER AGAIN. *deep breaths* anyway. Yes. Books. I can also talk about books if I concentrate really hard. I will be your financial ruin, but if it makes you feel better, I am also MY financial ruin. *ruins all the things*
I’m so bad about buying books just because of a cool-looking cover. But Ink and Bone sincerely looks like something I’d be really, really, REALLY, REALLY into. ……………… yeah, okay, Imma pre-order it. *shakes fist at you*
YOU ARE SO WELCOME. XD *strokes book covers on laptop screen because prettiful*
You are a horrible human being, Cait. YOU JUST MADE ME ADD MORE BOOKS TO MY ALREADY MASSIVE LIST OF 871 to-read books on my shelf (NOT INCLUDING MY MIGHT READ AND TO BE PUBLISHED). OMG CAIT. You got to stop showing me all of these awesome books.
Like Demon Road? DEREK HAS A NEW BOOK COMING OUT?! WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS? WHY DO I LIVE UNDER A ROCK?
And I didn’t know Jessica was going to write a re-telling of Aladdin!
I am SUPER excited about And the Rest of Us Just Live Here because like you said, it’s a story about a main character who is not a speshul snowflake.
I totally added Dreamstrider for the pretty cover and Vengeance Road is just going to be beautiful, I know it in my soul (I mean, common! YA WESTERN?)
There are literally only two books on this list that I don’t already have or haven’t added to my TBR list ! *whimpers* There are too many awesome books out there *cries*
DUDE BUT COME ON. ONLY 871??? YOU OBVIOUSLY NEED MORE BOOKS ON THAT TBR, ASAP. I am so helpful so I will fix this for you.WELL, GET THEE OUT FROM UNDER THAT ROCK AND START FLAILING WITH ME ABOUT DEMON ROAD!! *spins in circle of madness* I need a cover reveal, like, now. There are never enough YA westerns. *nods*
HAHA, Cait, yes PATRICK NESS ALL THE WAY!!! I haven’t heard about any of the other authors (except Richelle Mead, of course – who HASNT heard about HER???) but hey, you’re excitement is contagious! Let me go google these pretty things. I bet it was the covers that attracted you at first.
I have heard about Richelle Mead but, um, I ACTUALLY HAVEN'T READ ANYTHING BY HER. *hides* I mean, I'm going to, buuuuut. I get distracted. XD YAY FOR CONTAGIOUS EXCITMENT THO. These books need flailing over. XD
INK AND BONE IS ON MY TO READ LIST!
And ohhhh my goodness, A Thousand Nights might have to go on there too! O_O COVER LOVE.
I must admit, that apart from the Patrick Ness novel that’s coming out, I haven’t heard of any of these. That Alice and The Fly cover is glorious! It reminds me of a hot air balloon, covered in leaves, that looks a little like a house. I can’t see the fly though, maybe he’s inside the house, that’s usually where you find them. Little bastards.
I love obscure books! I’m going to check all these out now and add some to my list too.
Awesome list smushie and thanks for the new reads! <3
Just so you know, we nominated you for the Cake Book Tag!!! 😀
http://otakutwinsreviews.com/2015/04/03/the-cake-…
DARN YOU FOR GIVING ME MORE BOOKS TO READ WHEN I SO DON’T NEED ANYMORE. (I joke, I always need more.)
Naan bread is the best kind of bread. I would eat it every day if I had it available to me.
I only recently learned about the Library of Alexandria, and I just stared at my history book in horror for a few minutes. How, just–just how.
YA SUPERNATURAL, I’M IN. I am literally hyperventilating and kind of squealing over here in America (can you hear me?) because of the awesomeness. And being the grammar nerd that I am, you know I’m using “literally” in the literal sense of the word. Killer cars, vampires, undead serial killers, demons, IT’S ALL HERE. THIS IS THE BOOK I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR.
(Also, I really, really want to read GoT, but my dad is hesitant to let me at the moment because I should “wait until I’m older.” I’m wearing him down, though. I’ll get there.)
SOUNDLESS. INK AND BONE. THE FORBIDDEN WISH. OH MY GOSh there are so many freaking amazing new books coming out from my favourite authors, I can’t wait! Thanks for the rundown Cait!
