I am old. (Birthdays do that to a person.) I’m also reading comics. I’m also doing exceptionally well with my own private Rick Riordan reading challenge. (I read 3 of his books this week! Go me!)
Also! I accumulated all the results to my survey and I’ll be posting them next week…with quotes from many of you. It is very interesting what people say anonymously. (And mildly hilarious. But you shall see!)
T H E S T A C K
DON’T PANIC! This is like 3 weeks worth of books. Although, I did try to walk calmly out of the library only with two books. But a (surprise) stack of nine billion reserves was in. What is with reserves? They always all come at once. But I’m not complaining. Because books.
I like books. (Just in case you hadn’t picked that up yet.)
[The Darkest Part of the Forest – thank you Hachette! – I didn’t think I was getting this so let me just flail. And also look out, I’m guest posting my review at Amanda’s blog this week!]
[I Was Here – thank you Simon & Schuster]
[Enmity – won from Harlequin – read this one last year]
[Thirteen – present! – BECAUSE OMG THANK YOU AMANDA YOU ARE THE BESTEST]
[Soulprint – surprise from Bloomsbury]
[Bruiser – library – because AIMEE SAID.]
[The Graveyard Book – library – I want to read more Neil Gaiman this year!]
[Skulduggery Pleasant 4: Dark Days – library – why do I even read this series? it hurts]
[Only Ever Yours – library – I blame Shannon’s brilliant review]
[Ella Enchanted – library – for my fairy tale retelling challenge!]
[Corruption – library – MAGGIE AND QUENTIN ARE MY OTP]
[Grimm’s Grimmest – library – I get the feeling this going to be awesome]
I also just discovered comics! It’s wonderful. It’s like unlimited Avengers movies! (Why was I not reading these earlier?!)
I only read what my library has which are, of course, all out of order. But you can’t have everything. I just finished Avengers Assemble: Science Bros, which was hilarious and perfect. Captain America and Captain Marvel made kale milkshakes together. This is how Steve is so strong obviously.
V O T E! Y A Y!

WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK?
Wednesday – I review I Was Here and pout because I didn’t like it.
Friday – I list my #bookwormproblems and liken you to adorable puppies (you totally are).
Saturday – It’s a post all about ME! YES! I interview myself and talk my writing life. And snacks. (Snacks are always good.)
THESE BOOKS I ATE
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters (2): My least favourite PJ book. It just felt easy and convenient. [3-stars]
Wicked: I actually DNF’d a book! Maybe I’ll go back to it, but for now? Meh. It’s too slow and political for me.
Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse (3): Ooh, me likee! [4-stars]
Skulduggery Pleasant: Dark Days (4): WELL THAT WAS JUST CRUEL. HELLO? ANYONE HAVE A BUCKET? MY FEELS ARE ALL OVER THE FLOOR. [4.5-stars]
Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth (4): Woah! BEST yet! Although, poor little Nico. [4-stars]

I TURNED OLD
So yes! I had a birthday last Monday and turned rather ancient (21) and can now do things like a) party anywhere, b) consume alcohol at all the places, and c) go to prison forever and ever.
To celebrate this momentous age, I drank…mango milkshakes (HA! 21 and wild, I tell you) and plotted on Book Depository which books to buy with my birthday money.
Thank you so much, my minions, for the birthday wishes on facebook and twitter! And especially to Ella who did this super awesome post for me that made me flail insanely. And to Amanda and Engie for sending me books! And…and…and…YOU GUYS ARE SO NICE. THANK YOU.
OMG YOU MENTIONED MY POST *blushes and flails wildly* I’M SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a little to much fun writing it, mwahahaha 😉 YAAAAAAY FOR MILKSHAKES AND BIRTHDAY MONEY!!!! And also YES for planning on spending said birthday money on BOOOOOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!
BECAUSE BOOKS ARE LIFE BASICALLY. AND YOU ARE THE BESTEST! OF COURSE I'D MENTION YOUR POST! I'M STILL JUST SO HONOURED YOU WROTE IT. AFDASDLKJD XDXD
I had a great week thanks!!! Also I’m the first to comment which is weird. Aanyway…. I’ve read all of Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus series, which rock. I’ve read the Red Pyramid, but it wasn’t that great so I didn’t bother with the rest of the series. OMG Atticus is so cute.. and he has a great name! I occasionally read graphic novels, but I don’t read comics. I don’t really know why… And 21… that’s great, happy belated birthday! 😀
never mind, not the first to post (quite)
Oh oh I'm going to read the Heroes of Olympus series after this for sure. *nods* I might have a small breathing break though, because I'm literally devouring them so fast the events are getting muddled. >.>
Where do you find these gifs?? *stares at ghost* *blinks* *comes back to real life*
I feel like I should buy Looking for Alaska now. *munches on An Abundance of Katherines instead* Ah, I forgot how AWESOME John Green is. I can see why he has inspired a bunch of young people to vlog. Now, if only I had a better camera and editing skills… xD
Happy birthday! I’m sad I missed it.
I just google! I think I typed in “gifs spooky” into google search and it came up. Is that not the cutest ghost in the universe??! x)OH JOHN GREEN IS ENDLESSLY AWESOME.
“maybe I ate the library again” HAHAHA PERFECT
YESSSSS THE GRAVEYARD BOOK. I have the hardcover of the adult edition because I like the illustrations in that one better (the children’s edition and the adult edition are illustrated by two different people, if you didn’t know), but the storyyyyyy is obviously the best. I HOPE YOU LIKE IT. I love Neil Gaiman. He is my favourite. I really need to get round to reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane at some point this year.
ALSO YAY ONLY EVER YOURS. I keep telling people it’s probably ended up being somehow my favourite book of 2014 SO I’M REALLY GLAD YOU’RE READING IT. I really hope you like it. It’s sooo grim and depressing but so good and important.
YAY 21!! YAY MANGO MILKSHAKES. I HAD AN AMAZING OREO MILKSHAKE THIS WEEK. Hope you have a great year as a 21-year-old!! <3
IT HAPPENS. On accident. Totally not my fault I eat the library. *whistles innocently*
My sister read/loved The Graveyard book and it is HIGH TIME I read more Neil Gamain! I\’ve only read one of his books. I own the Ocean at the End of the Lane too, which I reeeeeally need to read. It\’s so tiny too. xD
Ooooh happy birthday Cait. Library problems. I totally identify (that should be a #library problems 🙂
I’m excited to see what you think of these books. Thank you!
gah. I need to write a #libraryproblems post actually. 😉
There was a sale in my bookstore yesterday so I bought me some books xoxo….My favorite Riordan book so far is The Titan’s Curse. I’m about to read the 4th one though so we’ll see.
Happy belated birthday! I’m 21 too. Book party together sometime? hehehe. Hope you got some amazing new books 🙂
the Titan\’s Curse was SOOOO GOOD! I feel like they really started getting super good after that one. xD BOOK PARTY FTW!
Favourite Riordan book? You’re asking me to CHOOSE?!? I kid, I kid. The Last Olympian and the Blood of Olympus are both AWESOME. I liked the Son of Neptune a lot too, and I read The Lost Hero in a day, which is something I almost never do so, no matter how much people whine about it, I think it was good. The Sword of Hades will always have a special place in my heart for introducing me to the PJO series, and The Serpent’s Shadow is pretty awesome too…why don’t we just say that he writes epic season finales and leave it at that?
I don’t read comics, but I do read manga. Lots and lots of manga. Seriously, over half my books on Goodreads are manga. 😉
I AM MEAN AND CRUEL TO ASK YOU TO CHOOSE. *laughs evilly* I want to read the second series straight after this one I think. x)
I missed your birthday! Boooo. Belated birthday wishes! Welcome to adulthood. You are not old though. 27 is old.
Only Ever Yours is supposed to be AMAZING and I want to read that soon. I voted for that. I read the sequel to Thirteen by mistake and I didn’t like it. I probably should have read the first book first!
YES YOU ARE OLD AND I AM YOUNG. hehe. I am just trying to make myself feel better. 😉
Oh my gosh you had a great week! The Graveyard Book was one of my favourites last year, I really hope it wins as the next book you read hahaha. I absolutely LOVE the Percy Jackson and Skulduggery Pleasant series they’re soooooo good. I’m up to the 4th book in both series I believe, though it has been a while since I’ve read anything from them. I need to get back into those. I need to start reading comics as well, who doesn’t want unlimited Avengers…
Skulduggery is wickedly good and I just didn\’t expect to be so deeply emotionally invested in it. *gulps* I\’m up to the 4th in each series now. *nods*
Ooh I really want to read Darkest Part of the Forest. I haven’t been hearing very great things about it which is so disappointing. I think Holly Black can be a bit hit and miss. I ADORED The Coldest Girl in Coldtown but really didn’t like Tithe.
I have also just started reading the Percy Jackson series, they are such fun books to read and because I tend read really heavy fantasy it is nice to read the Percy books for a break.
I have only read one Neil Gaiman book and that was American Gods but I have been wanting the Graveyard book for quite some time so looking forward to hearing what you think about it.
Oh and Happy Belated Birthday 🙂
OH OH WELL LISTEN TO ME. IT IS GORGEOUS AND BRILLIANT AND FAJKDSFLAD MY FAVOURITE BOOK OF THIS YEAR!! Trust me. 😉 hehe. I\’m totally trust worthy, right?!
Thank you. ^_^
BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I trust you ate a lot of cake. 🙂
That pile of books you have there looks epic. What did you think of Enmity? That book was a huuuuuuuuuge let down in my eyes; I just thought it had so much potential but didn’t reach that point for me. =/ And oh, The Darkest Part of the Forest… I would do bad, bad things to get my hands on a copy of that book. How beautiful is that cover!? And besides, fairytales. So I need it. Enjoy Soulprint! I’ve heard a few positive things from that one so far. ^_^
I DID. You know me. Birthday = cake. It was delicious.
*whispers* I hated Enmity. I thought it was a complete waste of space. But afjkdlsfad I LOVED THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST SO MUCH. I literally SCREEEEECHED when it came in the mail because I didn\’t think I twas getting it and then there it is. xD
You’re welcome Cait, I really hope you enjoy Thirteen. Oh, and obviously I voted for that one. I’m also really pleased you’ve enjoyed Skulduggery, no seriously, I completely understand your pain and heartbreak but I am so so pleased, somebody else who loves it all. It gets so much more emotional and so much funnier. You’ll laugh with tears, honestly. Swallowing the library is okay, I do it too! I hope you had a wonderful Birthday hunny, and I can’t wait for your survey results! 🙂
BUT I AM ACTUALLY EYEING THIRTEEN MISTRUSTFULLY BECAUSE YOU ALWAYS RECOMMEND ME BOOKS OF HEARTBREAK. *cries after Skulduggery*
Happy late birthday! I hope you get to buy lots of more books. And yes, myou practically ate the library haha Enjoy and have a great weekend 🙂
Here’s MY STS
Genesis @ GenGen’s Book Blog
THE LIBRARY WAS DELICIOUS.
Grimms Grimmest? I NEED TO READ, AND GO TO THE LIBRARY.
That was exactly my reaction when I found it. I JUST NEEDED IT.
MMM I would say I Was Here from your pile but you already read it and didn’t like it :(. So Soulprint? I love comics , I grew up reading Tintin and Asterix and Obelix comics and a couple years ago I was into the Simspons and X-men. Last one I read was the graphic novel adaptation of Book Three in Anthony Hortweiz’s Power of Five. I wish I was into them more but there so many books to read and not time to invest trying to find a great comic series to get into….
I grew up reading Tintin too!! LOVE TINTIN. I feel like rereading them for nostalgias sake some time. 😉
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! I hope you had a fabuloooouuuusssss day! <3
YOU READ DARK DAYS!!! DID YOU LOVE IT? DID YOU?!?!?! AND THAT ENDING. I know, it's shocking.
I can't believe you only have one Percy Jackson book left – I hope you LOVE the last one! 😀
I DID LOVE IT BUT I HATED IT BECAUSE FJAKDFL THAT ENDING. NO ONE EVEN WARNED ME. YOU COULD\’VE WAAAAARNED ME.
I’d love to read more comics! But my library isn’t as awesome as yours and doesn’t have them and I’m too bad with money to buy them regularily. I have a few issues though and I absolutely adore them. It’s just hard to keep up.
And my favourite Riordan book was probably The last Godess because PERCABETH. Oh, and House of Hades and Blood of Olympus, for obvious reasons. (I also demand to get your opinion on Luke.)
Nadja 🙂
Aw, that sucks, but I totally understand. Sometimes libraries are not the best and I am SERIOUSLY lucky to have such a good library. I think I\’m going to do a post on my library. *nods*
I DON\’T HATE LUKE. I don\’t know what\’s wrong with me, (apart from the fact he was cute in the movies) but the Thing At the End of Book 4 About Luke And Kronos…oohhh, that just had me feeling so sorry for Luke and kind of vouching for him. Kronos is just controlling him. :\'( I have a soft spot for villains.
I AM SO SLEEPY BUT I HAD TO COME BY AND WISH YOU THE HAPPIEST BELATED BIRTHDAY YOU AMAZING PERSON! <3 Keep being awesome and perhaps you will get a chance to rule the world…someday.
Obviously I voted Soulprint because I'll be reading that one soon AND I AM CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT U THINK. DUH. SO CAIT. READ IT.
AWWWW. Thank you. xD
but wait…what do you mean \”someday\”? I\’m, like, ruling it tomorrow.
Oh my gosh, you have Only Ever Yours? You’re so lucky! I wanted to get it on Netgalley but I couldn’t because I live in America. 😛 Maybe my library will have it now too….
I AM SO EXCITED FOR IT! I literally screeched when my library bought it.
Happy Birthday, Cait! Mango milkshakes are delicious and an awesome way to celebrate. Ella Enchanted is such a nice read, so I hope you enjoy it. Atticus is SO CUTE! My family and I have begun the process of visiting shelters because we’re also probably going to get a dog soon.
Mango milkshakes ARE totally delicious and are quickly becoming life. I\’ve had like 3 this week after we had one at a cafe. XD hehe. Addiction.
Ohhh, good luck getting a dog! It can be such a hard decision, right?!!
Happy birthday! Goodness me, I feel so juvenile. I grudgingly admit that now you have come of age, you may reclaim your throne as Queen and we shall worship you as such. *winks* Also, looks like this is book haul week because my books from Book Depository just arrived and I’m so excited already. As for which to read first – well, I already voted, but I’m not at all Ella Enchanted is the most popular one because a) RETELLING b) so much hype! and c) the author is so awesome.
*adjusts crown regally* You are wonderful. You may stay.
YAAAAY FOR BOOK DEPOSITORY!! I have no idea what to think of Ella Enchanted because I\’m the dorky one who watched the movie and thought it was lame. But everyone assures me it\’s not like the movie. x)
Great haul of books! Great to see some else eats the library too, and belated happy birthday from another January birthday girl who’s going to be REALLY OLD next weekend 🙂 I’ve got Ella Enchanted here somewhere for my fairy tale challenge, can’t wait to read Darkest Part of the Forest and the Graveyard Book is one of my favorite Gaiman books so I hope you love it! I’m halfway through my first read of the Percy Jackson books, so far so good!
*hi fives for library eaters* I wouldn\’t be the reader I am today if I didn\’t have access to free books at the library. xD OH HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR NEXT WEEK THEN. I\’m going to assume you\’re not turning 21. 😉 STILL!! I hope you have an awesome day!!
Happy Belated Birthday! 🙂 I can’t wait to read Only Ever Yours. It looks SO good. I hope you enjoy all of your new additions!
Aw, thanks, Chrissi! I\’m reeeeally excited for Only Ever Yours!
Happy Birthday!! Way to make me feel old 😉 (25)
I’ve heard so many good things about “The Darkest Part of the Forest” I can’t wait to read it!
Haha! You\’re not THAT much older. xD OH oh oh The Darkest Part of the Forest is EXCELLENT. Seriously. Cannot recommend it enough. x)
My week was okay…but the week before that was awesome, because i was in Disney World. 😀 i’m still reading Snow Like Ashes, and still absolutely loving it. Meira is an awesome heroine.
I actually own two old comics, but I haven’t read them. I would kinda like to read the Ultimate Spider-Man comics…but I’m not sure if my library has them.
As for fav Rick Riordan book–the whole first series. Okay, the last book of the original series (I think that one’s called The Last Olympian…?). I read the series a few years ago, so I’m a little fuzzy on the details.
Woah! DISNEY WORLD. I can imagine why this week wasn\’t particularly exciting after Disney World. 😉
Happy Birthday!
I think I went pretty wild and crazy on my 21st birthday too. From what I can even remember it involved lemoncake, a family dinner, a trip to the bookstore, and probably a LOT of coffee. Yeah, I was messed up on caffeine that day for realz.
Great haul! I LOVE THE GRAVEYARD BOOK! That book is actually on my haul video this week too! Neil Gaiman = love.
My STS
THANK YOU! ^_^ Caffeine is the BEST way to celebrate, imo. Caffiene and plenty of chocolate (omg, I had copious amounts of chocolate it was brilliant.)
Happy Belated Birthday 🙂 I hope you had an amazing 21st birthday. You spent it just like how I will be spending mine in a few months! Although, I’ll splurge with a chocolate milkshake instead, hehe.
You had an absolutely amazing haul and I hope you enjoy them very much.
Happy reading 🙂
Ohh, we\’re nearly the same age. xD How awesome!
I’ve had a pretty good week. Read a bunch of books that I really enjoyed. (Including a series that I think you’d adore – the Alcatraz series by Brandon Sanderson. Librarians are evil. I’m going to leave you with that.) Did some good writing, got feedback from all of my editors on the third book of my Bookania Quests. (Which means that I’m probably going to order a proof today. Can’t wait to hold the book in physical form!)
And you need to read Ella Enchanted. It’s my favorite fairy tale retelling – Ella’s voice is just so snappy! The premise is just so great! The prince is just so sweet!
My favorite Riordan book would probably be Mark of Athena. Percy and Annabeth are just so adorable in this book. There’s a killer cliff hanger (almost literally), but since you’re reading them now (instead of as they come out), it probably won’t be that bad.
I have never ever tried ANYTHING by Brandon Sanderson and I feel like that\’s such a bad thing. >_.> I\’ve been told they\’re totally different, though.
Aghhhhhh. CLIFFHANGERS ARE UNFAIR.
Cait … please stop using the “>’s” it’s making portions of your comment disappear …
But yes, movie Ella Enchanted is a completely different story. (Makes Percy Jackson seem like completely faithful, accurate portrayal) I’ve been trying to figure out how to petition a remake of the movie (with me as the director and/or playing Ella), but haven’t gotten the rights yet.
While most of Sanderson’s works are insanely thick, the Alcatraz books are much shorter, so they’re nowhere near as intimidating. In fact, he makes fun of his longer books in the second book. It’s very amusing.
Ooh, I think you’ll like The Graveyard Book. I’d like to read more Gaiman this year too. Also, I was massively obsessed with Ella Enchanted for a good two or three years of my life.
Mime has read it an assures me I\’ll like it. I mostly trust her. Maybe 38% of the time.
YAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAIT! I remember being 21…sigh. Those were the days. This year, the only thing that changes for me is that I’ll be able to rent a car… then it’s all downhill from there. XD Please don’t go to jail forever and ever. I’m pretty sure this would make ALL of us pretty dang sad.
xo Rosie
I will avoid jail and PAY ALL MY LIBRARY FEES. HUZZAH! <– I\'m sure overdue books can be evil enough to land you in jail, amirite?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! ^_^
BOOOOOKS.
ELLA ENCHANTED.
SURVEY RESULT THINGS SOMEDAY.
CHIPMUNK.
PUPPY.
MOSTLY JUST PUPPPPPPPY!!!
Haha, Happy birthday! I think it’s really good that you’re so enthusiastic about going to prison forever and ever since that’s an occasionally not-fun thing to do. All the same, I totally voted for Ella Enchanted just because I know that’s a good book, and my best friend loves it. I do not love it as much, but still. Awesome. 😀
THANK YOU! I shall attempt to keep my devious soul out of jail. *nods*
I usually put a book on hold at the library and it comes just as I started an awesome, amazing book that I already own. Then I have to make the choice…let the hold go or put down the amazing book I’m reading and take a chance on another one!
Wicked is tough read. It doesn’t get any better as the book goes on. It’s dense and hard to figure out with all the political stuff. The musical is definitely better, but I’m sure the political message is stronger in the book.
Terri M., the Director
Second Run Reviews
HA! Isn\’t that always the way?! I\’m having so much trouble picking what to read next these days. >_< (I figure I ought to watch the musical of Wicked at some point, eh?)
Elle Enchanted!!! I love that book. Can’t wait to hear your review of it. 😉
I AM EXCITED!! I literally have been recommended it a million times! EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH!
OMG I am in the post! ***dies***
I finished the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. The last book is the best, IMO. I’ve only ever read Tintin comics but Science Bros sounds hilarious. Kale milkshakes? Really?
Happy (belated) Birthday!
YOU ARE BRILLIANT.
I know right?! I\’m sorry but ewwww to kale milkshakes. I just…no.
I see Billy Kaplan! So that must be Young Avengers. Kelly Sue Deconnick is great, too; I love her run on Captain Marvel. Yay comics!
Yes! I should\’ve linked to which comics I had, right?! Not sure if it\’s the first Young Avengers or not though. I SHALL FIND OUT. Loving comics. XD
That’s an awesome birthday post! 🙂 I can’t even imagine how giddy you must’ve been when you saw it (although I actually can, because your comment was pretty much the most flail-y–totally a word–thing I have ever seen).
Ella Enchanted was one of my favorite childhood books! I read it soooo many times. Definitely recommended.
I WAS LITERALLY FLAILING OUT OF MY BRAIN. I AM SO SO HONOURED. *flails and dies*
Happy b-day 🙂
Looks like you have some awesome books coming up, and quite the decision on what to read next! I haven’t read any of the ones in your poll, but I’ve heard some good things about several…
I didn’t finish Wicked either. I LOVED the musical and decided to read the book on a flight to India. Not even the tedious length of the flight could convince me to finish it; got about halfway and gave up. Thank you for making me feel better about that 🙂
Thanks, Liza!! XD
GAh, deciding what books to read next is literally the hardest part. xD So far Ella Enchanted is whooping the poll. xD *hi fives for Wicked* Phewf. I don\’t feel so alone about that awkward DNF now. >.>
Happy 21st Cait! It sounds like you had a wonderful week 🙂
Thanks, Erin!! IT WAS GOOD!
Wait, you’ve never read Ella Enchanted?! IT’S SO AMAZING GAH DGAHDLHDSGLHDG SO HAPPY THAT I OWN IT
I REALLY need to read Avengers Assemble: Science Bros. It sounds awesome! And I love that gif of Cap, too. 😛
*hands you a bucket*
My favorite Riordan books are The Lightning Thief and The Titan’s Curse… but I think you already knew that! I’ve never liked The Sea of Monsters… and I barely even remember what happened in books #4 and #5 – it’s been so long since I read them!
I HOPE YOU HAD A LOVELY BIRTHDAY AND FLAILED OVER ALL THE BOOKS. (Let me know if you need hugs after V for Vendetta / hugs if you accidentally injure yourself from laughing too hard while reading the Bill Bryson book! :P)
NO I HAVE NOT. I AM A LITTLE BIT BAD. >.>
Oh oh you have got to read Science Bros. It\’s wonderful and has the BEST Black Window segment ever. (Well, first one I\’ve read actually.) It kind of makes me cranky thought, because it just makes me neeeeed a Black Widow movie even more. -_-
I WILL LET YOU KNOW FOR SURE. XD YOU ARE SO NICE. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! A MILLION TIMES!!!
CAIT HAPPY BIRTHDAY! OH MY GARGOYLES you are so old! Dude!
I started reading The Raven Cycle (by Maggie Stiefvater, because you *always* flail about her here) and even though I had to skip to the end (because I didn’t want to read through the middle; I HAD to know what was going to happen but I had to do homework…the struggle) and I had no idea what exactly happened in the middle except for Noah dying and now I really detest their Latin teacher (I forgot his name) except he’s dead too so all’s okay. (Talk about word vomit…wow.)
I don’t know if I’m going to keep reading the books…YA isn’t really my thing…but I did like the first one, so we’ll see 🙂 Thanks for recommending!
Toodles! ~Rcubed
P.S. Thanks so much for doing the interview on Ravens and Writing Desks! It meant a lot to all of us–all of us love your blog so much 🙂
I AM OLD. *rattles around in a wheelchair* I feel the grey hairs coming in too.
WAIT WAIT. you skipped the middle?!! BUT YOU NEED TO GO BACK ADN READ THE MIDDLE. IT\’S LIKE. THE MIDDLE. IT\’S IMPORTANT.
Aw, you\’re so welcome. XD It was a lot of fun! You guys as great questions!
ELLA ENCHANTED!!! I saw that on your pile and was surprised and excited. 😀 I’ve read it at least a dozen times, I love it so much. My copy is actually falling apart. (Need I tell you which book I voted for your next read?) I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!!
I literally have NEVER thought about reading it until recently. XD it\’s winning the poll!!
First, Happy Birthday! How did I miss this!? I feel very bad. I am sorry! But very, very happiest of birthday weeks now!
Second, YAY for Only Ever Yours. Be careful though, because it will destroy your soul and maybe make you hate humanity for awhile. But in a good way? Oddly, I voted for Corruption, because I feel like your OTP should make you happy on your birthday week. But, then Only Ever Yours, of course! I also liked Soulprint, and am procrastinating writing my review for it right now!
Um, I have never read comics. Or Rick Riordan. Oops? Enjoy your milkshakes, you party animal 😉
Don\’t feel bad!! I wasnt\’ too loud about it. 😉 I get birthday nerves. *eats cake anyway*
OH IT\’S THAT KIND OF BOOK IS IT. I am prepared. I have a bucket. I have a mop.
Pfft, I\’m worried about my OTP in Corruption. I\’m terrified they\’ll stab each other. >.>
I still can’t believe I’ve never read Ella Enchanted (I’ve seen the movie a lot though) I need to rectify this soon, let me know what you think about it :)! Grimm’s Grimmest looks AWESOME.
Happy reading 😀
I knooow. How bad, right?! I never even though about it until everyone recommended it to me on my challenge post!
I\’m not sure Grimm\’s Grimmest will count for the challenge? Will it? I think it\’s actual fairy tales instead of retellings? What do you think?
You know, I want this challenge to be fun and without too many rules. If you want something to count towards it that is a fairytale, a retelling or a fairytale retelling, do it! 🙂 I’m also counting the original fairytales, like Pinocchio that I read two days ago.
YAY THAT IS GOOD NEWS. ^_^
Ella Enchanted! Oh my gosh, that book (and pretty much every other Gail Carson Levine book) is like my entire childhood. I can’t even count how many times I’ve read it. My older sister and I used to have an ongoing battle over who our single copy of the book belongs to. And then she got a boyfriend and underlined the love letters in pencil. I still can’t get over that she actually WROTE in a BOOK…but I won and the book is mine now, so HA! to her. I’ll definitely have to reread that one for the fairytale challenge.
I’ve always wanted to get into comics. I started to before we moved (I now own like five trade paperbacks), but there’s not really anywhere where we live now to get more. We only have one comic shop, and it’s overpriced, so I’ll have to look into getting some online. Our library pretty much only has newspaper-comics, and of the superhero comics it has, they don’t have any in order and I’m a big stickler about that so I refuse to read them until they get the first issues :/
Favorite Riordan book…hmm…I’m not sure. I have a kind of love-hate relationship with Riordan’s books. I love his writing style, and character voices, and characters themselves, and plots…I just don’t care for his execution most of the time. I’ve read all of PJO and all but the last book of HoO, and I’m eagerly awaiting his new series about Norse mythology.
Omg. SHE WROTE IN A BOOK?! Yes I would have trouble with that too. 0.0
Ugh, so sad your library doesn\’t stock them. It\’s hard when there\’s no beginning issues, but I just decided not to be too worried about it and read whatever. Some make more sense then others for sure though. *nods*
I\’m not a big fan of how much Rick Riordan foreshadows and I wasn\’t a wild fan at the beginning but ajfdlakfd now I have all the feels. xD
I have read a few manga’s, but no comics yet I think. I had this period in my life where I had way to much money and was buying and devouring manga’s like crazy. And congrats on turnign 21! And drinking mango milkshakes sound like a great way to celebrate your birthday. hmm I don’t think I ever drank a mango milkshake, it sounds yummy.
Nice stack of books you got this week, I heard some good things about the Darkest Part of the Forest, so I hope you’ll enjoy hat one!
I don\’t think i\’ve read any REAL magna\’s yet, so that\’s on my list next. XD I will definitely absolutely recommend a mango milkshake. XD it is a glorious way to turn ancient.
Happy Birthday! I think books is the upside to birthdays. Sure you’re older, but books are always the best consolation. I’ll be 23 this year. But instead of saying 23, I think I’ll tell people that I’m three years and a score. Just to make them think. 😉
Atticus! He is adorable!!
Kale milkshakes, hm? If Captain America drank it, I believe it. But foliage and milk together? I’ll pass.
I’ve never read comic books before. But my brother has some Batman ones (I’d rather Marvel, but hey, you take what you can get), and I’ve considered borrowing them.
That is true and an awesome way to say it! XD Atticus is definitely adorable and troublesome. 😉 I think he knows it too.
Yeah, I\’m going to say no to the kale milkshakes and stick with magno milkshakes. *nods* I don\’t like foliage. Like ever.
Batman is the only acceptable portion of DC. XD
I know how you feel about reserves coming all at once – that tends to happen for me too! I’ve read a couple of graphic novels, but not comics, so hopefully I’ll give them a go sometime. Also, Atticus is TOO CUTE (not like that’s a problem though I’m sure). Hope you have a fantastic week Cait 🙂
Gah. I\’m sure reserves do ti on purpose. I\’ve had some of these on reserve for MONTHS but only now they all come in. xD
Woah that’s an awesome haul, Cait!! AND YOU GOT THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST!!! Queue parties and fangirl flailing!!! Your review is going up Monday, and I’m so pumped! It will be fantastic! 🙂
AFJSDKLADS I AM SO EXCITED TO OWN A PHYSICAL COPY. It\’s just an excuse to reread it, right?! It\’s so beautiful. xD (I honestly didn\’t think I was going to get it but I\’m more glad I\’m reviewing for you anyway. It\’s so awesome. <3)
I want all of these books! It isn’t fair! I can’t wait for you to read Ella Enchanted, that book was basically my entire life when I was eleven ( oh, wait it still is.) I adore it. Also I am uncontrollably excited to see the results of your survey, it sounds like it’s going to fun!
Oh oh I HOPE I like Ella Enchanted because so many people are raving about it being a childhood favourite. Ahh! Pressure! XD
These books are all so new to me! I’m gonna add this to my to be read list for sure! 🙂
My Stacking the Shelves
Thanks for stopping by!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY *TURN UP* HAHA! Man, I feel like getting a milkshake now. Ugh. Me wanttttsss milkshake! I haven’t had that in forever! :O Yay to so many books! I wish my library had YA books so I can borrow them instead of buying them but they don’t :'( oh well. And that is awesome that you’re exploring the comics world! I became interested in them ever since last semester because of my English professor. She had us read a comic book (or graphic novel .. not sure) called Fables: Animal Farm by Bill Willingham. You should check it out! It’s funny and is a dark retelling of a lot of fairytales. I really want to explore more comic books too since I’m kind of getting bored with YA books since some of the stories are recycled you know? I want to experience reading a book with pictures (which I have not done in a LOOONG time).
Milkshakes are life, I tell you. I\’ve suddenly become addicted.
I shall look that one up! Is it a play on Animal Farm by George Orwell, too?? I do feel like some YA is pretty recycled but I\’m always finding ones that wow me, so I\’m happy still. xD
BAHAHA! Go to prison forever and ever?! You’re adorable, Cait! When I turned 21, I was just happy to finally be considered an adult and maybe I can finally go out on my own without a chaperone. Apparently that was wistful thinking as my dad still insists I go out with my mother or my uncle or my brother JUST NOT BY MYSELF. I understand, though, he’s overly protective and the world out there is dangerous, but good lord, I am suffocating.
Enough making this about myself… I could be a drama queen for another time haha. I voted for you to read Grimm’s Grimmest because that sounds dark and sexy as hell.
Aw, poor Faye. I can understand that…it would be stifling. 🙁 I really love it when I can slip out to the library or something by myself, but I live in a pretty cool town. Except for crazy drivers. I\’m almost always watching absolutely stupid people do stupid things on the road. Gah. -_-
DRAMA QUEENS FTW, I SAY. WE ALL KNOW DRAMA IS WELCOME HERE.
Happy (belated) birthday! Also I congratulate you for owning such an adorable dog. I hope he is as well behaved as he is cute!
THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST!! It’s so beautiful and I can’t wait to see your thoughts.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the results of your survey. And what quotes you use. I put effort into some of those answers XD
THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST IS MY FAVOURIEST BOOK OF THIS YEAR.
Oh oh I appreciate you doing the survey. I REALLY DO!! Now I\’m curious to see who\’s quotes I got. XD
WOW CAIT! You did awesomely at the library and I’m super excited that you can finally read Corruption! I can’t wait to hear what you think because ALL THE FEELS. I’ve heard great things about The Darkest Part of the Forest too, I’m really intrigued by it! I hope you enjoy all of your reads and have a great week ahead Cait.
afjdkald I already have so many feels and expectations for Corruption!!! I HOPE IT IS PERFECTION.
Awwh. Atticus Bean looks adorable.
Let me know what you think of Thirteen. I got it for my brother but I ended up being like o_O when I found out it’s about some crazy crazy cult. I personally would like to read your review of Grimm’s Grimmest first. That looks pretty Wow.
I used to ADORE reading comics but I read hardly any last year, so I’m going to remedy that. I remember I used to love this comic called The Runaways, about these kids who discover their parents are supervillains. I loved it, but I didn’t get to finish the series. Freshmen is also a great comic series. I’m pretty sure they’re both dependant from Marvel and DC as well (so YAY for the indie authors). I read a comic yesterday called Astro City. I liked it but it didn’t amaze me that much.
Anywho, enjoy your book haul! I got some more books from the library myself. Can’t wait to get down to it. (Also, Happy Belated Birthday!)
It says on the sticker on the front of Thirteen that it\’s for fans of Gone by Michael Grant and that is like my most FAVOURITE book ever. XD So I\’m really excited about it!
Omg, I want to find The Runaways now. 0.0
I bought the Gone series for my brother and he loves that too, so you’ll probably like Thirteen. =D I was gonna buy him the Maze Runner set. I haven’t heard the best about it buuut… if you like it, I’d get it for him anyway, you two probably have the same taste.
Ohhhhh you’re gonna love Runaways! Here’s the GRds link.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAIT!!!!!!!! HOPE YOU HAVE A FABULOUSLY FUN-FILLED STRESS-FREE WONDERFULLY AWESOMELY … AWESOME BIRTHDAY!!!!
AND MMMMM MANGO MILKSHAKES *drools*
AW THANKS, HILARY!!! MILKSHAKES ARE RAPIDLY BECOME A LIFE SOURCE. I LOVE THEM.
Happy birthday!! I just had to go over and read Ella’s birthday post for you and it is the most adorable thing ever!!!
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I KNOW RIGHT?!! SHE IS SO KIND AND NICE TO ME I JUST MAY EXPLODE.
Happy Birthday Cait!!! Here’s a cookie. Wasn’t it yummy? 🙂
Yay, swallowing the library is something I do ALL THE TIME! I’m not alone! Also, all those reserves. When I place a hold on one or two books they come in, like, three weeks apart. But if I’ve got a list of, like, ten books–they all decide to come in at the same time and I can’t bear to leave any behind for a later pick-up so I force myself to lug them all home. And then I get home and look at them all and silently screech because THEY HAVE DUE DATES. I stress myself out more than is necessary.
And to answer your question about which Rick Riordan book is my favorite… I dunno, it’s hard to pick just one, but I think The Lightning Thief will always have a special place in my heart because it was Rick’s first in his epic mythology series. But I do love The Titan’s Curse, so maybe that’s second place.
*gobbles it* YES IT WAS. THANK YOU.
Gah, reserves totally have minds of their own. >.> All at once or one a time, I agree. WHAT IS WITH THAT?!! I hate sending books back unread. :\'(
Look at that stack! What a wonderful tower of books! Haha, but anyway, I definitely want to read The Darkest Part of the Forest soon–same with The Graveyard Book. I’ve only read, like, ONE Neil Gaiman book (The Ocean at the End of the Lane) but it was BRILLIANT and if you’re looking for more Neil Gaiman, do give it a go! SO GOOD.
I don’t remember which is my favorite Rick Riordan book; I’ve read all the Percy Jackson books and several of the Heroes of Olympus, and of them I love the Percy Jackson series best, but they’re all enjoyable. Percy is hilarious, though, so his series is my favorite!
Also: Since we’re talking books (as usual), you should know that I finished All the Bright Places today and HOLY GUACAMOLE, Cait, that was a rollercoaster of feels! I HAVE NOT CRIED SO HARD AT A BOOK SINCE, LIKE, THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. But at the same time, SO GOOD. Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching but well written and moving, too. I AM SO SCARED ABOUT THE MOVIE.
I loooove books. I know it\’s hard to tell. I need to ban myself from the library BUT HEY. I\’m supporting the library and not spending heaps of money so that counts for goodness, right?! I\’ve only technically read half a Neil Gaiman book since I read Good Omens and it\’s co-written with Terry Pratchett. I MUST FIX THIS. I want to read Star Dust at some point this year!
I love how hilarious Percy is. XD I love how clueless he is.
HOLY GUACAOMLE INDEED. I apologise but THEN AGAIN I DON\’T. ISN\’T IT INSANELY GOOD AND DOESN\’T IT JUST DESTROY YOU??? The movie is going to hurt like nothing else before.
Right, exactly! OH WAIT, I forgot, I read Stardust too, haha. Guess I’ve read more Neil Gaiman than I thought! But I’d still like to read MORE. Like Good Omens and The Graveyard Book and Coraline.
YES YES IT DOES. It broke my heart and I cried SO HARD but I’m not sad I read it at all! When I finished it, though, I honestly wasn’t sure if I even wanted to see the movie anymore because it’s going to be SO HORRIBLY SAD and it will make everything feel even more real. (FINCH.) I probably will watch it. But I don’t think anyone in my family is going to watch it with me. (I know better than to recommend the book to them because they don’t seek out sad books the way I do. They’d just walk away from it depressed.)
OMG I JUST FORGOT CORALINE. hahaha. We are hopeless aren\’t we? XD I have read Coraline too. So 1.5 Neil Gaiman reads for me. Woot woot.
I seriously wish I had fangirling friends in Australia…well, iN MY TOWN. GAH!! I shall probably go with my sister if she\’s not too busy and we\’ll weep and mourn together. :\'( It will not be okay. NOT EVER.
Happy Happy birthday Cait! Don’t worry, you’ve got the rest of your life to consume all the alcoholic drinks you want! 🙂
I’ve got like 5 books on hold at my library (since December 29, get it together guys) so I have a feeling I’m going to walk out with a bajillion books next time as well! 🙂
Have a FAB week!
Eeep! THANKS AMBER. ^_^ hahaha, yes I totally do. 😉
Gah, I\’ve got books on hold from last year too. I\’m beginning to think they\’ve lost them. >.>
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Funny thing is that here where I live, you can do all those things (drink, go to jail, etc) at 18. I’m 19 so the pressure is on lol! ATTICUS FINCH IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING. I want to pet him so bad. And yay for Rick Riordan binge! I really like his books. I feel like I should reread them one day xD
THANKS, MARIANNE. I\’m pretty sure I can do all those things at 18 too. xD Well, I don\’t know about jail?? I think it starts at 18 in Australia?? Erk. See I don\’t even know and that\’s sadness. What I SHOULD\’VE said is get my open-license! I can this year! I\’ve been on a provisional license for 3 years because Australia is so strict. -_-
Happy Early Birthday:D You’ve read a lot of books for 3 week:D I’m surprised how many of us want you to read Ella Enchanted. Awesome post as usually:)
I meant Late:P *shakes head*
Hahah I turned 21 BEFORE YOU HOW DO YOU FEEL. I guess it’s more important here in the US because I can finally drink legally now. Even though I still get the stinkeye for buying alcohol. Oh well.
UM YES READ THE GRAVEYARD BOOK! Are you reading that next because it has the second most votes.
Ah jeez. 133 comments. Are you EVEN GOING TO SEE THIS. I am very impressed on how you keep up with all these comments, ok I am getting a little sidetracked, but I’m impressed. I never comment early enough hehe.
I haven’t put many books on hold at the library, because it COSTS MONEY ($1 I can’t believe it) to put an item on hold. It sucks. So I just wait til books come back, bleh. But look at that haul. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THEM ALL!
I SEE ALL MY COMMENTS. COME NOW VAL. I SEE EVERYTHING. x)Gah, libraries shouldn't charge. It costs $2 for me to put an adult book on hold but YA is free thank goodness. Or else I would not be reading nearly as many books as I do. 0.0
Well, I am yet to read Blood of Olympus (the last one in the Heroes of Olympus series (continuing/spin off series to PJO)) because my brothers are both hogging reading it.
Sometimes when I’m in the library I feel like I can feel people watching as I take half the shelf out to the car or if it’s the school library take an armful of books to my locker. 😀
I THINK YOU NEED TO READ CORRUPTION IF YOU LOVE QUENTIN AND MAGGIE SO MUCH!!! I AM GOING TO READ IT VERY SOON TOO!!!!
Nice stack! A few of these sound interesting! Gail Levine’s book is one I have but still need to read. I have only ever seen the movie, which was cute. I hope you enjoy all these.
Happy Reading!
Here’s my STS.
Happy birthday Cait (sorry it’s late!) Sounds like the blogsphere celebrated your birthday in true Cait style!
Lucy @ My Little Life
I finally saw ths post buried in my emails! You are even one of the blogs that goes to my private email and it still happened! Everyone is posting extra New Years posts. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY QUEEN! Ha ha. Where on Earth did you find a gif of a dancing prairie dog???? I don’t play well with mythological Gods, so I have not read any Riordan (sp?). I have a Gaiman audiobook, but I have not listened to it yet. I am sad you didn’t care for Wicked. Give another try in about ten years. I read it in my 30s, and that may be the reason I liked the political slant. You know the original Oz books were about politics, right? My Harry Potter pal Grindylow, from MyLeaky is in love with the Skullduggery books. I promise her all the time I am going to read one, and then I forget. I still want to interview bloggers from different countries about their library systems. Do you think it would make for interesting posts?
I FOUND YOU! I COULDN’T FIND YOU! I WANTED TO COMMENT AND I COULDN’T FIND YOU! HI CAIT!!!! HI MIME!!! HI!!! *waves*
I FOUND YOU! I DIDN’T KNOW WHERE YOU WERE BUT I FOUND YOU AND NOW I CAN COMMENT! HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY CAIT!!!! HELLO MIME!!!!
YAAAAAY!!! *WAVES WILDLY* I'M SORRY I WENT MISSING. XD
Awesome haul! I should really read Ella Enchanted! Wicked is so good, I should read that again!
