Apparently it’s halfway through the year.
Wait. Stop. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN? I now feel notoriously guilty for having neglected writing for the last 5 months, but I have read 132 books and been having quite glorious success with my Etsy store (finally). I shall explain the reasons behind the writing woes in a minute. BUT FIRST!
Thank you to everyone who said such nice things on my blogversary post! There are, like, 130+ comments there, peoples, so you’ll understand why I’m not replying. BUT! We’ve been chatting furiously on my You Ask, I Answer post, so if you have a question for me? GET ON IT!
So I’ve read most of these already! Because I’m organised…OKAY FINE. Because I have a horrible habit of reading new shiny books instead of the ones that’ve weighed down my TBR for months. What can I say? I’m like a magpie. Shiny things…mine.
- FORTUNATELY, THE MILK: This was so stinkin’ cute. Unfortunately, it wasn’t MG…more like a children’s first reader? STILL. It’s Neil Gaiman. ★★★★
- BECAUSE YOU’LL NEVER MEET ME: Oh this was a highly anticipated book (and a surprise ARC, thanks Bloomsbury)…but, you know what? That ending…erk. It basically went unbelievable sci-fi. ★★★
DENTON LITTLE’S DEATHDATE: SO FUNNY. Yes, I’ve read it already. Thanks Simon & Schuster. ★★★★
- 7 DAYS & THIRST: Little surprises from Scholastic! 7 Days sounds like a chick flick, but I’m up for people thirsting to death. EXCITING.
- ALL MY SECRETS & THE POTION DIARIES: I’m lumping ’em together because they were unsolicited from Simon & Schuster, and while I love Simon & Schuster…these two books? Nope. They were pretty ridiculous. ★★
- THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL: I was looking for good MG books…this got recommended on twitter. It sounds delicious. (Library.)
- SON (The Giver #4): I’m finally going to finish this quartet that I started when I was, um, 14. (Library)
- PERFECT SCOUNDRELS (Heist Society #2): I loved book one. Clearly I need more stealing paintings in my life. A 50 cents library sale find! And it doesn’t have any annoying library stickers, which makes my life infinitely better.
- BEAUTIFUL CREATURES: I found this for 50 cents. COME ON! It’s in beautiful (har har) condition and I’m game.
- ISLA’S INHERITENCE: Ooh, this was a fun Australian faerie story! I’ll be interviewing the author soon so grab yourself some popcorn, possibly some iron, and PREPARE. (Gifted from the author.) ★★★★
- LOVE MAY FAIL: This is an adult book, but hey, it’s Matthew Quick and I love his YA books! (Thanks Macmillan for the surprise review-copy!)
My new camera and I are the very best of friends. Naturally, I’ve instagramed a lot this last month! Click on the pictures to see the larger versions on my instagram!
I ate 28 books in May! I’m actually quite proud of the series I persued too! Because, me? I’m a notorious for NOT being a serial-eater. But I devoured 3 Riordans, 2 of the Infernal Devices books and finished up Laini Taylor’s trilogy (finally). SO GO ME.
- BEST BOOK? Oh this HAS to go to Vicious. I knew I’d like this book, but oh gosh it even exceeded my expectations. SO MUCH VILLAINRY. I also gave 5-stars to Challenger Deep and The Rest Of Us Just Live Here and Clockwork Prince.
- WISH I’D NEVER READ? I would very happily like to burn All My Secrets from my brain. Dumbest plot ever.
- DID I LAUGH? ARE YOU KIDDING?! I read three Rick Riordan books! I laughed like sugar-high penguin! Denton Little’s Deathdate also had me snorting.
- COVER LOVE? Those Infernal Devices books are just dang gorgeous, we’ll all agree.
- CHALLENGES? I added 3 more retellings to the Fairy Tale Retelling challenge and I completed a series! Daughter of Smoke and Bone is now DONE. I have to admit, I liked the first book a lot and the rest not-so-much.
- MOST EATEN GENRE? Um, so I think now is a good time to accuse me of being a paranormal/fantasy lover? ELEVEN BOOKS?! I can’t help it! I just adore magical things, okay?! Contemporary comes second with 6 books!
- RATINGS? I had such a good reading month! Sure there were more 1-stars than I usually get…but with the majority being 4?! I’m happy!
WHAT YOU CLICKED ON THE MOST:
- 10 Things You Should Regularly Tell Writers — DO IT.
- Blogversary Celebrations! — yay! So glad they were fun!
- 10 Problems of Being An Adult Reading YA — apparently a lot of us have these problems
- A Court of Thorns And Roses Review — which amuses me that this was much loved since I … didn’t love the book!
INTRIGUING SEARCH RESULTS:
- “in court of thorns and roses does feyre get hurt” — Um, have you READ Sarah J Maas before?! OF course Feyre gets hurt. Everyone gets hurt.
- “moustache and blood pressure” — I’m sure they’re scientifically related.
- “paper fyry” — Close! But yet so far…
- “paper furyi” — I really don’t see how it’s that hard. PAPER and FURY.
- “red queen victoria aveyard fanfiction” — I keep getting hits for this! WHY? I don’t even write fanfiction.
- “whats the difference between annalise and gabriel in half wild” — one is a girl and one is a boy? I think they have different hair colour as well.
- “because you know i’m all about that cake gif” — OMG. WHERE IS THIS GIF? I WANT IT.
- “why does madeleine roux write suspenseful stories” — I assume because she wants to. It’s weird how authors do this, though, geesh.
- “me nope i’m not just a fact listed on paper” — Not to pry, but I think you might have confidence and self-worth issues that maybe you should talk to someone.
- “paper fury competitons” — Someone isn’t telling me something. Do I hold competitions? SHOULD I BE?
- Epic Reads did another incredible realistic video on meeting favourite authors. IT IS THE BEST.
- George RR Martin is cancelling EVERYTHING so he has more time to write. How adorable.
- Did you see the trailer for The Scorch Trials?! IT LOOKS SO SO GOOD. (I won’t deny, I’m a ridiculously wild fan of this series.)
- Cristina @ Girl In The Pages asks if we’re too hard on heroines.
- Elizabeth @ Evil Overlord Thoughts mentioned me and my crazy word usage in her post and eeeep! I’m honoured!
- Mishma @ Chasing Faerytales is celebrating her blogversary too with a giveaway!
- Celine @ YA Midnight Reads did an excellent review on A Court of Thorns and Roses and outlined why it’s an abusive relationship.
Confession time: There is a reason I haven’t been actively writing this year. It’s partially good ol’ fashioned writers block, but I’ve also had a lot of gargantuan rejections. I CAN’T REALLY TALK ABOUT IT (dang it), but it’s abominably hard to write when the only feedback is negative. And I’m loathe to keep typing up the funky ideas that flit through my skull — because my brain is over-flowing. I want to write more stories that matter and chase less dust mites. Hence I’m not worried that I haven’t written much. And I do have a tentative new book for June (a YA contemporary, believe it or not! I KNOW. This fantasy writer is stretching herself) and hopefully it won’t be stubborn.
HA HA HA. Who are we kidding? I’m sure it’ll be stubborn. But I can do this.
Also! To those of you that’ve asked if I’ll be posting more Dead Boy and the Paper Cut chapters on Wattpad…the answer is probably not right now. I WANT TO! But I fell through a plot hole and landed in the Underworld, basically, and it was dark and cold and I ran away screaming. There’s 5 chapters so far and if you all act desperate enough…I might be persuaded to stitch up that plot hole.

Oh Cait I’m sorry about the rejections *hugs* My library books get priority. Because I don’t get arcs yet and so my bought books and won books are left all on thier own :(. It’s holidays now though. I have no excuse! I’m doing a writing project in June. It involves the future and politics and climate change. Also, a character called pelican. I need advice on naming minor characters! ideas? I’m reading Rook by Sharon Cameron. It’s interesting. Your new camera looks lovely… I like my tiny point and shoot but yours is FABULOUS. Oh my goodness, your search terms are the best 😉
Those search results are brilliant. I particularly love the “because you know i’m all about that cake gif”.. obviously! I keep meaning to read Vicious, I MUST get to it soon! Have a fab weekend. x
I am yet to write a novel that isn’t a stubborn little bugger. Currently revising a novel AND OH GOSH IT’S HAAAARD. AND FRUSTRATING. So sorry to hear about those rejections, but CHIN UP, CAIT. AND GOOD LUCK WITH THAT NEW NOVEL. Hopefully it’s not *too* stubborn (lol jokes, it will be.) My order of reading usually goes to what needs to go back to the library soon. At the moment I feel like everything is due at the same time which means I’m in a full-blown PANIC MODE. Why do I have to borrow so much from the library at one time!?
Ahh Cait, I’m sorry you didn’t like Because You’ll Never Meet Me, I really thought that would be a book that you would like, but I completely agree that the ending was a little bit off. I have All My Secrets too and I’ll be honest, I couldn’t even get past the first 20 pages it was so silly, I’ve read Girl, Missing before and I found that to be really underwhelming so I was a bit cautious of All My Secrets but thought I would give it a go, looks like I’ll just be staying away from her books from now on, her writing just doesn’t work with me.
I cant believe you read so many books in May, some brilliant though. Looks like you had a really interesting month though 🙂
Hope June is better as far as reading goes for you.
Wait…it’s June? Have I missed a couple of days, somehow? I thought it was still May? 😉 Man, that must have been some blackout – I’ve lost two days. I didn’t do anything embarrassing, did I?
I don’t like that June means summer is coming soon here in the UK! I also don’t like that it means we’re one month closer to Christmas – I’m no longer a Christmas person 🙁 On the bright side though, it does mean we’re one month closer to the Queen of Shadows release. 🙂
I love The Scorch Trials trailer, but I have an issue with it: there seems to be too much Teresa. I’m trying to remember what happened in the book and I don’t remember Teresa crossing the desert with them. I don’t want them to have changed too much of what happened in the book. I’m not a huge Teresa fan, so don’t really want to see more of her than what we saw in the books. What do you think?
I always read what ever I’m in the mood for and sometimes I often can’t resist reading a new book I have just got, even though I have loads waiting on my shelves waiting to be read.
Hello, my name is Chuckles and I’m a Book Hoarder! I have lots of books that I bought up to THREE YEARS AGO that are still sitting unread on my shelves as I read a new grab on my Kindle or something…I like shiny and new!!! This month I did tackle some mountain climbing books that I bought back in 2012 so I’m going to feel all happy and smug with myself this month! Heh! A whole 12 books from the back end of my tbr! *sigh*
Also I can’t believe that we’re going into June now. I need more reading months in the year!!! OK I’m ahead of schedule on my Goodreads Reading Challenge but I still feel I should have read more…
First of all, thanks a lot for sharing my giveaway luv, but I am not celebrating my blogoversary, my blog is still an itty bitty five month toddler:)
Anyway, I am so sorry about the rejection hun. I just can’t believe it btw, HOW DARE YOU REJECT CAIT? Now tell me, who do I have to kill on your behalf?:)
Vicious was so awesome wasn’t it? I loved the book and I loved buddy reading with you! We should do it again!:)
THEY CAST LITTLEFINGER in the Scorch Trials? OH MY GOD I NEED THIS MOVIE. (I’m sorry, but he does villainy SO well.) I didn’t like the Maze Runner movie as much as the book, but I think I’ll still check out the Scorch Trials.
I should really get Vicious sometime, because V.E. Schwab is a genius, but I like to read books that are about to be released first and slip in the older books when I have extra time. School books take priority, though, because school. I have to read two years’ worth of literature texts over the summer *weeps*
CAIT. I am not ACTING desperate. I AM desperate. “Hold thy desperate hand”, says Friar Laurence from my recited Romeo and Juliet lines, but do not hold YOUR hands, Cait. Just keep typing. I’m sure you’ll work your way through the plot holes, and the rejections *give you hugs and cakes*
OMG CAIT THE SCORCH TRIALS I’M SO UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED!!! Me and my sister think this is where it’ll be very different from the book but, in this case, as much as I am protective over the series, I think the changes will be good :-)!
Sarah x
I had NO IDEA that the trailer for Scorch Trials was out. Love it!! I just watched The Maze Runner and I actually thought the movie was a bit better than the book. I only thought the book was okay because I thought it moved a bit slow. But The Scorch Trials was my favorite book so I am excited to see the movie!
THAT’S A LOT OF BOOKS. I’m glad you liked the Patrick Ness. Can’t wait to read that one. It’s a shame about the Simon and Schuster ones – I LOVE Simon and Schuster books usually as well. OH, I’m also interested to see what you think about the Matthew Quick book – I’m not sure if I should read it or not!!
I hope you get some writing done in June 🙂 and if it’s the contemporary that you were emailing me about, THAT HARDLY COUNTS. You just can’t write happy, can you?
Awesome haul. Isla’s Inheritance looks really good – will definitely be on the lookout for it!
OMG – you read sooooo many books this month – and some of those were pretty hefty!! Hope June is just as fruitful!
I’m really sorry to hear about the rejections. It can be really hard when all you seem to get is negative feedback but don’t despair or give up. I think you are massively talented and you will definitely get there. 🙂
Library books get priority. I think the last time I touched my “owned” stack was…um, let’s not go there 😉
DON’T TELL ME THAT IT’S JUNE (tomorrow)! I have exams! And I haven’t done anywhere near enough gratuitous panicking yet! I am STILL working on my rewrite…only I decided that I had to cut something (because I couldn’t do it right and, if I can’t do it right, I don’t want to do it AT ALL! *stomps feet like a whiny child*) so now I have to edit what I have before I can write anymore. 🙁
Sorry to hear that you’re getting rejections, but keep on going! Everyone likes different books. You’ll find the right people eventually!
Cait, I think you are an absolutely fantastic writer and I know that someone will eventually appreciate your talent and get your books published! <3 Just keep writing! Also, I'm SO glad you're reading The Heroes of Olympus series – DON'T YOU LOVE THEM?!
Never give up Cait. You are massively talented and the people who are rejecting you are the losers.
Now go write that new book.
GAAHHHHHH REJECTIONS, how are you getting rejections? YOU’RE AN AWESOME WRITER. This is making me sad, because if I ever query..um…all I will have is rejections…well. If I ever manage to complete a novel…..
WHAAAAAT CAIT WHY DID YOU NOT SO MUCH LIKE THE LAST TWO OF LAINI TAYLOR’S BOOKS TALK TO ME.
I need that camera in my life…<3333333333333333
So many gorgeous books as ever, Cait. I am automatically drawn to my new and shiny books too. I’m really looking forward to eventually getting around to Vicious. I think I’ll love it too. I LOVE your search terms. Some are so funny!
Hilarious search results. Seriously 😀 You are a reading machine. How do you read so much and have time to blog and live life? Hmm…..I’m sorry to hear about your rejections. Keep working on the books and tweaking them though. Even J.K. Rowling got a ton of rejections :/
Here’s what I read this month https://ireadboooks.wordpress.com/2015/05/30/may-wrap-up-june-tbr/
Of course I read the shiny books first. What kind of person do you think I am???? And ick–rejections are evil and I hates them. Hates them with a passion. But I totally understand how they make it harder to write–I’ve taken ages longer on my current novel because I can get so discouraged. (Course, I’m not as far along as you, so these are different rejections.) And I’m so glad your Etsy store is taking off!!! I love all your items, and if I actually had money, I would buy every single one of them. Also, I hate to burst your bubble, but Perfect Scoundrels is Heist Society #3. #2 is Uncommon Criminals, and it is also very good. You should read them all because ALLY CARTER. (Which I was really depressed to find wasn’t her real name, or so I’m told.) I know how you feel about series books though–I always lose momentum on like, the second or third book. I mean, I read the Divergent trilogy in about four days (including Four, the Divergent collection). But I’ve been on Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle for about five years now.
I’m sorry you’re getting all these rejections. All of your books sound like they’re awesome. But remember, J. K. got rejected from different publishers for an entire year before Harry Potter was published.
And those Epic Reads videos are amazing. I’ve never watched them before, so I spent like fifteen minutes watching all the ones I could find. All are very true.
You got a great haul! 28 books?! You only had two days without any reading, wow that’s awesome! Thanks for the links to the discussions posts from other bloggers. Yes, I love Vicious too! Sooo good. I loved both of the villains and I hope they make a movie. Who would play Eli and Victor though? Hmm. …
Great books! Happy reading 🙂
I can’t believe we’re already halfway through 2015? Where did it GO?
“Um, have you READ Sarah J Maas before?! OF course Feyre gets hurt. Everyone gets hurt.”
Yes. Truth and more truth. Hahaha.
Sad and evil truth. XD Ahhh, but I love Sarah J Maas so much.
I almost had a heart attack at “apparently it’s halfway through year,” so thanks for that. 😛
I’m so glad your Etsy store is doing well! I have two pregnant friends (WHY HOW WHAT) and I’d love to buy them mobiles, but I think your store is only set up for PayPal? If I’m wrong, please let me know. 😀
What a great collection of books! I need to look at your GR review for The Distance Between Us. I hope you liked it. I’m STILL waiting for the slow readers at my library to finish Challenger Deep so I can read it. IT’S NOT THAT HARD, PEOPLE. (Apparently it is.)
Hahahahaha, I love your list of search results.
Ooh, I’m excited to read the ACOTAR review on Ya Midnight Reads. I’m slightly addicted to reading negative reviews for that book, hah. It’s weird, I know.
I’m so sorry about the rejections. I can’t imagine they ever get easier. I also think it’s often just random (un)luck. I know that doesn’t help much, but I hope you won’t let them discourage you too much. One of these days, someone is going to LOVE your manuscript, publish your book, and everyone else will spend the next 20 years kicking themselves for missing out.
I try to read books in the order they’re due back at the library, but I do succumb to the lure of the new, shiny ones. It’s so hard to resist the brand new books that I pick up from the library on the day they’re published. I just finished None of the Above last night (started out great, now I’m unsure what I think) and will probably start Anything Can Happen next.
YOU ARE SO WELCOME. Heart attacks all round. *hyperventilates quietly* When did this even happen? Gee, 2015, you are so rude to us. HOW ABOUT SOME WARNING.
Awk, yes, it’s only set up for Paypal. It’s the only way I know how to do it at this point. 🙁 I shall look into that though. 😉
I REALLY LOVED THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US! So. much. sarcasm. Like seriously, sarcasm is my language. That book spoke to me on a spiritual level..i’m so pleased.
Negative reviews can be quite fun, right? *grins evilly*
I am totally a magpie when it comes to books and my TBR pile. Once something goes into the pile, it’s almost like I breathe a sigh of relief and I figure I can get to it when I’m ready. Or, I lose interest once it’s in the pile and don’t bother reading it for two years. (The exception is library books, of course. I kind of have to read those right away!)
*magpie hi five* Library books ALWAYS get top priority for me, hence I need to stop getting them out so I can actually, ya know, READ some of the books I’ve collected. Mostly they’re books I’ve won or been given so I don’t feel beholden to read them and end up chewing library books. XD Not a bad thing! But I would like to whittle my TBR down a bit. hehe
Woaaaah, you read fast! I’m lucky if I read 8 books a month! But it looks like you’ve had a great month! 🙂
I neither read books when I get them or in the order I received them/order of pub date. I read the book I fancy when I fancy it. I can’t read books I’m not in the mood for.I save them until I’m more motivated to read them. So yes, sometimes I’m reading review copies months after pub date (years on occassion). But this is all in my review policy, and publishers seem to be quite happy with this – the book will still be reviewed, so it’ll get attention when it may have died down a bit elsewhere. And I’m not covering exactly the same books as everyone else. Everybody’s happy!
Right now, I’m reading an ARC of Summer Love: An LGBTQ Anthology, from new US imprint Duet Books, who specialise in LGBTQ YA. Pretty good so far, I’m enjoying it! Though I don’t know if I’ll be seeing it on the shelves over here in the UK (though I have mentioned the imprint to my head of dept. so fingers crossed we’ll get something in!).
I DID!! I’m so pleased I read so many great books! I really hit a good run this month. *flails* Ahh, mood reading is good stuff. *nods* I’m slowly descending from my fantasy kick, but while I was really into it I just read ALL the fantasy I could! It’s fun to follow the moods. I TOTALLY LIKE THAT TOO. I feel this great urge to get my reviews up on time, but isn’t it more interesting (sometimes) when the reviews come later and remind us?! I like that too, as a reader of blogs.
FIRST THING: PERFECT SCOUNDRELS IS THE 3RD BOOK, NOT THE SECOND. UNCOMMON CRIMINALS IS THE 2ND BOOK.
SECOND THING: CAIT I SPENT THIS ENTIRE MONTH SEARCHING TWO THINGS OVER AND OVER AND OVER ON YOUR BLOG JUST TO GET THE STATS UP IN THE HOPES YOU WOULD MENTION IT IN THIS POST
YOU LET ME DOWN CAIT
I JUST GOT TOLD THAT AND NOW I’M MORTALLY EMBARRASSED. Dangit. Someone fire whichever clone wrote this post. THEY ARE SO IN TROUBLE NOW. *deflects blame like a boss*
WHAT.
I’M SORRY.
I HAVE FAILED YOU.
I’m very panicking that it’s already June–I planned to have my sci-fi fantasy novel’s first draft in Feburary, but that didn’t happen, and I only just realized this month that my main character, the POV, is completely wrong. So I basically have to start all over. AND i WANT THIS FIRST DRAFT DONE BEFORE NANOWRIMO. I’M REALLY FREAKING OUT. Plus anime is distracting. XD
Ooooh I hadn’t seen the Scorch Trials trailer yet! I’m so excited! I loved the first movie and I have so many questions–I haven’t read the books yet.
I’m afraid I buy books and they end up on my shelf collecting dust–I give higher priority to the library books…I guess because they have to be returned. XD
I’m going to go check out all the links you posted now! 🙂
I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THIS FEELING OF FREAKING OUT. YOU AND ME BOTH. I thought I was doing okay, but then Omg it’s June and I haven’t done any writing this year. WHAT IS WRONG WTIH ME. *hyperventilates* Although, for me, it’s Sherlock Holmes. hehe. Aaaall the versions.
I LOVE that Scorch Trials trailer so so much. It’s like exactly how I imagined it. xD
ME TOO FOR LIBRARY BOOKS!! I like have a schedule where I read at least 2 library books a week and in the end I read them ALL before my books and…um…borrow more library books so it’s a vicious never-ending cycle. *glares at self*
Well, I almost never read my books based one when I get them. If there are library books involved they *usually* get top priority because of due dates. But. . . usually it’s the less scary ones or the ones that I’m most excited about that are read first. Meaning the big, fat books are read as a last resort to “I have nothing to read!”
Don’t let the rejections get you down. You must write! The world needs you, Cait. It needs your stories, and you must believe. Believe it, okay? And if you think that sounds impossible, then just believe before breakfast. But it is NOT impossible (if you ask me). So go forth and write.
The world kind of needs more of the Dead Boy and the Paper Cut too. Okay, actually I just need more of it. And the only reason I didn’t go and plead for more was because I was trying to be, you know, respectful and. . . rational (Cait, does everything Ashley; she can give you more DBatPC right now, patience child). But now that you’re bringing it up, I guess that means it’s okay to through rationality out the window. So I beseech you on my knees: Please post more DBatPC! Please!
ME TOO!! I leave the fat books till last, always. And then I feel like I’m not getting anywhere because it’ll take me like 3 days to read one book whereas I like to read a book in at least one day. *cries because big books are scary*
ZOMG YOU ARE SO ENCOURAGING. :’) I’m just going to sniffle here and feel really really encouraged. SO THANK YOU, ASHLEY. *tackle hugs you*
HOW IS IT ALMOST JUNE JUST WUT. o_o
SHINY BOOKS GET MY PRIORITY I’M AFRAID. OOPS. BUT I GOT TWO LOVELY NEW ONES IN THE MAIL FOR MY BIRTHDAY (FINALLY!) SO I’M DYING TO READ “ILLUSIONARIUM” BY HEATHER DIXON THIS INSTANT BECAUSE I’VE NEVER READ STEAMPUNK AND IT LOOKS DELICIOUS.
MY WRITING PROJECTS ARE BASICALLY LAUGHING AS THEY WATCH ME SIT DESPONDENTLY AND… NOT WRITE THEM. -_- WHY AM I NOT WRITING?? I BASICALLY HATE MYSELF AND IT’S SAD.
ALSO YOU GOT “PERFECT SCOUNDRELS”??? :O JEALOUS. (AND ACTUALLY IT’S BOOK 3… ERM. BECAUSE I READ BOOK 2 WHICH IS “UNCOMMON CRIMINALS”… *SHIFTY EYES*) I NEED TO READ “PERFECT SCOUNDRELS” BUT IT KEEPS NOT BEING IN AT THE LIBRARY.
SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS I THINK I’M IN AN EXCITEABLE/LOUD MOOD TODAY
AWESOME POST <3
I KNOW. SOMEONE REALLY OUGHT TO STOP THIS WHOLE YEAR-RUNNING-AWAY-ON-US-THING. IT’S A BIT RUDE OF 2015, TO BE HONEST. AND DON’T WORRY, ALL CAPS IS MY LANGUAGE. NEVER APOLOGISE FOR ALL CAPS ON MY BLOG.
MY WRITING PROJECTS LAUGH AT ME TOO. I REALLY THINK WE SHOULD MAYBE GLARE AT THEM OR SOMETHING SIMULTANEOUSLY? AND THEN HAVE A GARDEN PARTY AND NOT INVITE THEM FOR CUPCAKES. *NODS* MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR ME, DEBORAH.
Whhhhhhhhat. Perfect Scoundrels is book 3?!!! *cries* I’m mortally embarrassed.
Cait, you’re amazing! (excuse the creepiness of that statement). But, seriously. You just do so much in what seems like so little time it’s quite incredible. I’m envious of your awesomeness!
It’s not creepy. I totally agree. I AM AMAZING. *hair flip*
hHEHEEH JUST KIDDING. BUT SERIOUSLY YOU’RE TOO NICE, ERICA.
Cait, you need to teach me photography, when I actually get a camera…. And I’m so sorry about the rejections. But hey, remember that some of the best authors were rejected many, many times, so don’t ever give up!
I’m one of those people that’s too paranoid to share my writing until I’ve gotten everything figured out, but for now, I know it’s about a slave queen and a fabled land. 😛
AHHH, I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M DOING. I just point and shoot, tbh. I would loooove to do a photography course or something though. *dreams*
I UNDERSTAND. Sharing writing is really really hard. I think I had a heartattack the first time. xD Although, if it makes you feel better, it does get easier.
Teach me how to read and review so quickly like you do, oh fast one. And oh, those search terms. My favorites would have to be “my laptop won’t let me sign into ebay” and “a court of thorned and roses age appropriate.” How does the first one lead to my blog? XD
ZOMG I DON’T KNOW. GET CLONES, YES? But search terms are my favourite. XD I giggle so hard on them. And I get so many hits for fanfiction! I haven’t ever even written fanfiction. :O I’m very very curious how the first one leads to your blog too, now, heheeh. XD
The Scorch Trials trailer is da bomb! OMG so excited for Septembeeeerr! *deep breaths* So excited to see Dylan, Kaya and the other casts. I must say Min Ho is my ultimate crush but sshh don’t tell anyone. :3
I heard so much buzz about A Court of Thorns and Roses but also mix reviews about it… Should I read it? The cover is really pretty and I like books with pretty covers soo…
I am ridiculously excited about The Scorch Trials! Like you, I am a massive fan of the trilogy and I CANNOT WAIT. I need to reread the trilogy again. It’s been a while.
I’m sorry about the rejections! That’s such a bummer on your writing — I know the feeling. Rest assured that your writing is the shiznit. <3
BIG HUG CAIT. So sorry to hear about the rejections. Keeping being awesome and you and your strength and passion will pull you through and I have so much faith in you! <3
LOLOLOL Oh all my secrets and potion diaries….they look so cute and measly but alas, they don't sound too great…haha WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN I TACKLE IT!!
Gah you got so many books. And then read them all (or close to it or whatever). I am so glad to hear good things about Denton Littles Death Date. You should absolutely be holding Paper Fury competitions (I have no idea what it would be or anything but it sounds cool). Boo to the rejections but keep your head up – You are awesome!!
It is SO HARD to stay motivated to write when you’re getting rejections. I tried a premature little querying spate over this spring, and it would be so frustrating and soul-crushing to go from having a really great writing day and making lots of progress and being generally thrilled with what I’m working on — only to get a *ding* on my phone and find a new email from an agent rejecting me. 🙁 I guess all we can do is keep going?? and going and going and going — Energizer bunnies of the writing world, that’s us!!
No, I don’t read my books in the order I get them. 🙂
Oh, and George RR Martin did not cancel everything. I saw him in Kansas City at ConQuesT last weekend several times. I sat in on two panels he was on at ConQuesT. He signed my copy of Game of Thrones…excuse me…OUR (mine and my husband’s) and he signed a few copies of the Wild Cards series that belong to my husband. I got to hear part of a new Sansa chapter from book 6. Yes, George did a reading. 🙂

Second Run Reviews
Nooo had such high hopes for Because You’ll Never Meet Me! I’m sorry about the rejections, but maybe you’ll find a little comfort in the fact that everyone here loves you and would TOTALLY buy what you write. I would! And I’m sure it’d be greatly popular if you ever self-pubed (though I know you’re not interested) so it’s a shame that those companies are taking their sweet time! Maybe if you did a pre-release book hype thing where you name what book you’re currently trying to get published with some facts, and it can spread throughout the blogs and then companies will see how many it’s on and be like “I want that book!”
BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW THESE THINGS WORK UGHI’MSORRYIT’SHORRIBLE D:
I LOL’ed at those search results, pretty funny honestly. You read so many pretty books lately! You beat me by four books xD Your haul looks soooo awesome though! I want to give Beautiful Creatures a go one day, I’ve heard so much about it lately. Awesome post 🙂 Happy reading Cait!
You know what, Cait? You are a wonderful writer, and I know rejections are hard (I’ve only gotten them for magazines, but I’m sure getting them for books is even worse), but you will push through those rejections because your writing is seriously way too amazing. It is I-can’t-breathe funny, beautifully sparse and just all around awesome. And so are you. And I can’t wait until your books are out in stores so I can buy them all and read and reread them a billion times. Yes yes yes.
That probably sounded like a really aggressive pep talk, but oh well. *gives you cake and chocolate because cake and chocolate make everything better*
Aw, I am really sorry about the rejection. You can tell all those people that I personally disagree with them, and maybe I should send them a letter. They clearly have brain damage or something and don’t understand your fabulousness, or the fact that we all will read your books, so you have a built in fandom. Honestly, publishers, BIG mistake rejecting our Cait.
I am so glad you enjoyed Denton Little! Phew, a recommendation that didn’t tank 😉 I am still sad that everyone I know hated The Sin Eater’s Daughter so I feel like this is a small bit of redemption, or at least earning back some of the trust in me you’d lost 😉
You should absolutely be holding competitions. No questions. We could call them…. The Furious Furies and we could be aiming to be some kind of Minion Manager, the minion you hold in highest regard. Yes, let’s make this a thing.
132?!!!! Excuse me while I process that… HA. WHY DO YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO MAKE US LOOK SOOOOO BAD?! Kidding. Or not really. But I still love you, you forever-flailing, cake-consuming ball of awesomesauce. And yaaay for 3 HOO books! PLEASE get down with Nico, er, House of Hades!!! And I feel like I didn’t hear your reaction from THE cliffhanger so much? Were you spoiled before diving in? Because that was so my case! Ugh. UGH.
Onto your writing, I hope you do not give in to the negativity. I mean, self-doubt is okay? But you’re already repped. So keep pushing! And, judging from that Jon Snow gif, you’re on the right track! We’ll be waiting!
And HUHU FOREVER Challenger Deep and The Rest of Us.
Oh man, Cait. How do you read so fast? Teach me your ways, master. Anyways yeah. I tend to read the ones I buy most recently than the ones sitting on my bookshelf for years… I can’t help it. It’s like an impulse that doesnt go away :/ I’m trying to kick that habit but it still happens to me all the time. *shrugs*
28 books…. 28 BOOKS! Bloody hell, are you reading or eating them! How? HOW? I demand you share your secrets. Are you a speed reader, do you have minions reading to you throughout the night while you’re asleep? On a good month I can read half as many. Clearly I’m doing it wrong. Take me under your wing grasshopper.
That cat and pie GIF is ridiculous, I can’t stop looking at it. I’m sorry to hear about your writers block, I can’t imagine how frustrating that is. But not only are you super entertaining, but have a real way with words. Anyone who can’t see the brilliance of your work is clearly a few fries short of a happy meal <3
Start stitching girlie because I love the Dead Boy and the Paper Cut storyline! Don’t let the rejections put you off your game. One day one of your stories will land in the right place at just the right time. I was so disappointed in The Son after loving and adoring the other The Giver books. I even refused to see the movie out of my respect for The Giver. I have to read some Schwab! I am hoping that one of her books is an ebook special at some point because I have been not liking the process of reading a physical book lately. I am struggling to get my two library books read because of it. You were a reading machine last month! 😀
Super happy that you loved Vicious, what a fantastic book! I’m definitely keen on picking up The Rest of Us Lived Here and Challenger Deep as well! Yay for Denton Little’s Deathdate too, I received it the other week. YAY for Daughter of Smoke and Bone! A shame you didn’t like the rest as much because I still have to read the sequels.
Best of luck with your writing Cait, I know the publishing world is a hard one to crack but you will get there one day! Just look at JK Rowling!
Thanks so much for the shout-out this week! I’m curious to see what you think of Beautiful Creatures, and if you’ll continue on with the series, because it seems to get mixed reviews (I personally enjoyed it, and I loved that it focused on witches/warlocks since I think they’ve been neglected in YA paranormal lately by angels/werewolves/vampires/etc. Sometimes we just need some good old magic). Although if you haven’t already, don’t watch the movie before you read the books…because it was several levels below mediocre, if you know what I mean (I cried about the fact that I spent money to go see it the opening weekend. So much disappointment).
It seems like everyone had any insanely busy month in May lol. I loved the Scorch Trials trailer! I’m so so so soooooooooooooooo excited about the movie! Lol while you read a lot, I wrote a lot. I finished my rewrite of my steampunk fantasy at 84K on Sunday. ^ ^
