IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!!! Or…the month. Okay, it’s just the end of the month, but that’s not a very exciting way to begin a post. Plus with my TBR the way it is…it’s like a TBR apocalypse around here anyway. Ahem.
Last month I cautiously suggested I might just do once a month recaps instead of weekly even though these posts usually end up very very looooong. Most of you were okay with that. Some of you weren’t. (I’m sorry! But I’ll give extra cake and that makes it better, right?!)
SO LET’S GET ON WITH THIS APOCALYPSE RECAP!
These are my various review-copy acquirings. I’M DROWNING IN BOOKS AND NOT EVEN UNHAPPY.
- TRUTHWITCH: I’m nervous/excited about this?! Because MOST people love it, but SOME say it’s confusing. I was going to read it this weekend but…I feel into editing and can’t get up. Thanks Pan Macmillan!
- REBEL OF THE SANDS: THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY GREAT. Also I’m interviewing the author and having an epic giveaway soon, so WATCH THIS SPACE. ★★★★
- THE IMPOSTOR QUEEN: Again, I’m monstrously in love with this. Seriously TOP read of the year so far. (Thanks Simon & Schuster!) ★★★★★
- THE CROWN’S GAME: And you know what?! I’M ON THE BLOG TOUR FOR THIS. I’m freakishly pleased right now. Keep your beady eyes focused on here on March 8th. (Thanks Brittany for inviting me!)
- MY SISTER ROSA: Boxing + psychopaths = Cait is endlessly pleased.★★★★ (Thank you Allen & Unwin!)
- SUMMER SKIN: I won this! And everybody raves?? SO SHOULD BE GOOD.
- HOW NOT TO DISAPPEAR: I know absolutely 0% about this unsolicited one from Simon & Schuster…but looks promising?!
- WHEN WE COLLIDED: I buddy read this with Maraia, which was gloriously fun for a very um…interesting book. Bipolar and Italian food, basically. (The food = I like.) ★★★ (Thanks Bloomsbury!)
- THANKS FOR THE TROUBLE: No CLUE what this is about, but everyone loves Tommy Wallach apparently! (Thanks Simon & Schuster for the surprise!)
- THE FAMILY WITH TWO FRONT DOORS: A cute middle-grade about Jewish food. UM WAIT. I mean Jewish family life (which is basically 98% food, let’s be real.)★★★ (Thanks Allen and Unwin!)
- UNTAMED (Splintered #3.5): THIS WAS PERFECT AND I’M SOBBING THAT WONDERLAND IS FOREVER DONE.★★★★
- NEVER NEVER: Because I have a Peter Pan addiction and will collect them all.
- NOT IF I SEE YOU FIRST: This is about a blind girl and I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT. (Plus my library bought a new release?! What wizardry is this…)
- THICKER THAN WATER: I admit, the reason I want this is because the narrator’s name is Thomas and I have a slight weakness for characters named Thomas.
- ICE LIKE FIRE: I am nervous about this one? I loved the first, but have seen only negative reviews for this. And now the library demands it back because I procrastinated too long. SO IT’S EITHER RETURN IT UNREAD OR READ IT ALL IN THE NEST 12 HOURS. #dies
- THE GIRL AT MIDNIGHT: I don’t even know what it’s about. Girls?
- WOLF BY WOLF: I know I will love this. I KNOW. Reimagined history. Motorbike racing. Wovles…I assume anyway. I just need tiiiiime to read it.
- THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS: I’m really hoping this is similar to Bone Gap (aka my favourite book of them all).
- PERFECT ESCAPE & PANDEMONIUM: I bought these at my library because a) they were fifty cents and I am not stupid, b) they’re hardcover and I love hardcover, and c) orange is pretty. I AM AWARE THESE ARE SHALLOW REASONS. But fifty cents, peoples.
- STARS ABOVE: LOOKEE AT THIS BEAUTIFUL THING. But I don’t want to read it…because then it’s all over. Forever. #WeepsDramatically
- STORYSPINNER:
- THE SERPENT KING: Bee told me this book is everything. ALWAYS BELIEVE BEE.
- 100 DAYS OF CAKE: Obviously I needed this book. I mean, seriously. Was there any doubt?
- THE ART OF NOT BREATHING: I’m trying to write contemporary, ergo I need to read contemporary, ergo I chose one about a potentially dead girl. (The art of not breathing is DEATH, PEOPLES.)
// click the photos to visit my Instagram account //
I also just reached 4,000 followers so HUZZAH AND CAKE AND I MIGHT FLAIL DRASTICALLY FOR 9 YEARS.
(Click covers to read the reviews!)
(I’m also STILL working on this “only-read-20-books-per-month-and-stop-stressing” thing. So far I’m reading the right amount…BUT YET STILL STRESSING.)

- The Girl From Everywhere Review
- Historical Retellings I Want To Read But That Don’t Exist
I N T R I G U I N G S E A R C H E S:
- “different types of writters” — Mostly those who can spell, and those who can’t.
- “why can’t i remember what i wrote down” — THE STRUGGLE IS REAL, FRIEND. Or when you wrote it down and lost it. I recommend getting dragon secretaries to take notes and keep track of your genius.
- “taboo movie” — definitely Percy Jackson. No one likes to talk about it.
- “who needs a bowl anyways” — Me? No offense, but eating cereal off the floor isn’t fun.
- “i fell in love with a warlock and he doesn’t know i even exist what do i do i need advice” — Duuuuude. That is so specific. (How did you even get to my blog?) I honestly suggest sneaking up and throwing glitter in said warlock’s face. I think they like that sort of thing.
- “why do so many books have romance in them” — Because there’s a myth that romance is happiness. Totally false. Cake is happiness. Dragons are happiness. Free giftcards for books are happiness.
- “how to stack books in a tall bookcase” — You kinda…just…oh gosh, it’s hard to explain? YOU JUST SORTA STACK THEM.
- “red rising vs red queen” — One is excellent and clever and detailed and phenomenal. The other is Red Queen and is not.
- “2boys love 1girl whatsup” — You got me. I have no idea what’s up. 2 girls love 1 dragon is something I’d prefer to read.
- “meaning of name celaena” — Probably “meanie” or “guava head” or even “you disappoint me, fiend”.
- “adults shouldn t read ya” — Let me give you a gentle shove off a tall tall cliff.
- “scared to write “problematic” — That honestly sounds like a PROBLEMATIC situation. Ha! Ha! …sorry. (But seriously…who googles this stuff!??)
- “books that makes you cold hearted” — I suspect you and I are just born cold-hearted Vulcans and we need to embrace it and just going around being cold and hearted.
My Society6 store has started off quite nicely! I admit…I WAS NERVOUS. But everyone has been so nice about my designs I could just flail! (Well…I actually will flail.) Also as I type there’s FREE SHIPPING. I’m not sure how long it lasts though…so GET THEE ONTO THAT.
Also THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who’s promoted my things. IT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME. I will basically adore you forever. Seriously, it’s surreal to see my designs in the wild. afjdksald I AM EXCITE.
Again..MUCH NEWS. (But this is like an entire month’s worths so you’ll forgive me.)
A U T H O R S
- Maggie Stiefvater is disgustingly awesome and drew ALL OF THE RAVEN BOYS (and Blue, obviously) and it’s for sale and I want 1 or 9.
- Jay Kristoff releases a sneak peek of Gemina (Illuminae Files #2)! AIDAN IS THERE! AIDAN!! (Apparently the cover comes out on Monday too, by the way.)
- George RR Martin says there’ll be a massive plot twist in the books BUT NOT THE TV SERIES. (Honestly? I don’t plan to watch the season until the book is out. So when I’m 67 I’ll probably catch up.)
- VE Schwab’s book Vicious is GOING TO BE A MOVIE. They have a script and are looking for a director. While A Darker Shade of Magic is going TO BE A TV SERIES. Aaaall the Schwab fans may scream now! (SHRIEKS.)
- Tahereh Mafi introduces us to the cover of Nevermore!
- Pierce Brown is writing another series set in the same world as Red Rising!
- Leigh Bardugo reveals the cover for Crooked Kingdom (AFJDKLASD IT’S GORGEOUS) and talks about her Grisha world (AFJDSLAKFD IT’S AMAZING).
I N T E R N E T N E W S
- I accidentally found a list of 2016 Australian Author YA books coming out…so my TBR exploded.
- Also there is this book, The Riders of Thunder Realm, being pitched as Game of Thrones meets Jurassic Park. AND IDEK WHAT IT’S ABOUT, DUDES. DINOSAURS. I WANT THEM.
- Here is a random list of 202 fictional characters and their Meyer-Briggs personality types. I’m INTJ, so I am Elrond, Saruman, Thomas (Maze Runner) Ender Wiggin (yuuuuus), and Severus Snape (dangit).
B L O G G E R S
- Emily @ Loony Literate gives you instructions on how to rewrite a book. Very helpful. Much procrastination involved.
- Paul @ The Galaxial Word asks what kind of reading superhero are you. I AM DEADPOOL.
- Amanda @ Nellie & Co has ways to generate post ideas (!!) and also Instagram app tips. (Basically go read all of her blog, it’s so so excellent and helpful.)
- Alexandra @ Twirling Pages asks how we define “well loved” books.
- SJ @ A Tree Grows in Bookland tells us how to be a happy blogger.
- Victoria @ Stori Tori’s Blog has advice on how to write Aussie characters. I’ve contributed!
- Writing has slowed down since I finished editing The Dead Boy and the Paper Cut, BUT!! I’m doing little bits of edits here and there hoping to take hiatus from blogging in the last week of March (or April?) to write a book.
- “What book, Cait?” you ask.
- DYSTOPIAN MONGOLS WITH DRAGONS AND GUNS AND SAND STORMS.
- (But I get distracted easily? So I might end up writing a How-To manual on world domination through cake instead.)
- Also, back to the Dead Boy…it’s up to chapter 19 on Wattpad! GET THEE ON TO READING THAT. Also a million thanks to everyone who stops by to a) read it and then b) say something suffocatingly nice to me. I could SCREECH. That is all.
- (Honestly you have no idea how happy that makes me.)
- But moving forward.
- For exactly 32 minutes this week, I WAS 100% CAUGHT UP ON COMMENTS. Thank you to everyone who takes time to comment, seriously I love it. And I’ll try to be more punctual in replies. (#lies basically but…I try.)
- Human Mortals have just been ridiculously nice to me of late. I’m so happy I could majestically eat the moon. (FYI, I’m assuming the moon is made of cheese in this statement. And I would share some with you.)
- Ergo I want to mention that if you happen to randomly compliment a random mortal near you…IT IS A REALLY GLORIOUS THING TO DO. You can totally make someone’s day.
- ALSO IT’S NEARLY MARCH. UMMMM. THIS YEAR IS GOING FAST. #help
Oooooh, wonderful recap! I’m so excited for my mug from your shop to arrive! I think you should read stars above. It is rather fabulous. I loved the raven boys picture. Now I need the raven king (thanks for all the pain of waiting, Cait) I just finished The Forbidden Wish this morning and OH MY GOSH IT WAS WONDERFUL. I’m sort of behind on my book reviews though, sadly. But that’s what weekends are for, I guess. My feburary was mostly coming back home (with a small stop in sydney) and then School. Now I have essays to write, exams to prepare for, music to play, friends to hang out with, libraries to complain about…. and so on. Some of the other books I really liked this month were Sabriel and Lirael (which were rereads, but still), Passenger and Truthwitch (I’m currently halfway through the audiobook.) Sadly, my drafting is all essays, which I like to write but STILL. That said, there are the glimmerings of a mermaid short story on the horizon. (aka tomorrow, hopefully) Thanks for the wonderful post, and congratulations on all the instagram and society six accomplishments!
OMG YoU BOUGHT ONE?! OKAY. LEMME DIE HAPPY. *flails ridiculously much* Is it silly that I’m procrastinating Stars Above because I don’t want i tto be over?! :’) I am telling myself I CAN’T do that with The Raven King. I have to read it the very second it is in my clammy paws.😂 And omg The Forbidden Wish is good?! EXCELLENT. I desperately need that one. 😛
Ooh, sounds like you’re up for a busy March? GOOD LUCK. DO NOT DROWN. And good luck with this mermaid short story. There are not enough mermaids in the world, I think. WE NEED MORE.
I’m still disgustingly slow at devouring books so there is that this February from my corner.
Also are we really surprised there is going to be a plot twist in the book? This is George R.R. Martin we are talking about, right? The Riders of Thunder Realm sounds kinde of awesome when you put it like that, haha.
I KNOW. GRRM is the king of plot twists, I suppose.😂 Although I’m desperate to know if any of the theories about Jon Snow will be confirmed. AND I WON’T KNOW FOR SO LONG OMGGGG. *shrieks*
Aw, but at least reading a LITTLE is still reading something, right?! *gives you cake*
I feel like I don’t even need to say it, but Wolf by Wolf is FABULOUS. If you need any input into what book to pick up next…um…that one.
Also I am so pumped for the next few chapters of The Dead Boy and the Paper Cut. SO READY. But I don’t want it to be over…
My reading month was…interesting. I’ve been overloaded with that school thing so I haven’t been reading and it is very sad, though I’ve been slowly making my way through Illuminae (so stressful I had to stop and reread a Morgan Matson book ) and it is very stressful and intense.
I may also desperately want to read the sci-fi book about Mongols and war and deserts.
Wonderful post, as always!
I BELIEVE YOU. 😂 And I honestly will try to read it next week. *nods*
ZOOOOMG. I AM SO FREAKISHLY PLEASED TO HEAR YOU SAY THAT. <33 I update twice on the weekends and...there's about 33 chapters? So we're on 20. sO IT'S NEARLY OVEr, OMG. *hugs chocolate* I'm desperate to know what everyone thinks of my
horribly devastatingfinale. AHem. But thankyou soooo much for reading it. :’)Agh, school is a very time sucking little monster, isn’t it? Illuminae? Stressful? HECK YES. And heavy. One needs to work out just to heft that beast.
OMG, thanks for sharing that Gemina excerpt! I am dying for the sequel so every little bits I can get help 🙂 I am also considering not to watch season 6 of Game of Thrones and wait for book #6 instead. But it will be hard since I am huge fan of tv show and it will be EVERYWHERE on the internet once season 6 stars…
And you ask about my February? I read Morning Star and I still have not shake out the shock this book left me in. But it was so so so good, you have to read it soon, Cait. It is as mind-blowing as you can get.
I’M JUST SO GLAD AIDAN WAS IN THAT SNEAK PEEK! *ponders that may have a problem since likes AIDAN so much* AHem. Anyway. If you don’t watch GoT, we’ll be in it together. 😉 The real problem is the internet is MERCILESS about spoilers. Aghhhh. I saw spoilers for S5 when it was airing and I was still reading the book and I. was. so. mad. (Particularly one about Jon Snow.) I HATE spoilers. I’ll have to unfollow so many pages when it airs. *wails*
OMG. I’m so glad about Morning Star! Scared and glad at the same time?! Is that possible?!😂 It’s on my to-buy list for next month!!
“100 DAYS OF CAKE”, that is a book! And 4,000 followers! So cool, but scary, I mean you also want to keep them following. and keep most of them happy, because you can’t make everyone happy, although maybe if you give out enough cake, but your name being cake it might be easy 😛
I KNOW RIGHT?!?! I didn’t even read the blurb before I was requesting it. 😂
And omggg, I KNOW. 4K instagram followers is rather scary. Gahhh. Surely cake will quell the masses?!?
Aaaaaaaah, I’ve already shrieked on GR, but I R SO GLAD YOU ENJOYED ADSOM! <3 Although, in my usual fashion, I'm more anxious than excited about all these Schwaby adaptations as of late. *frets and digs into a jar of Nutella*
“red rising vs red queen” — One is excellent and clever and detailed and phenomenal. The other is Red Queen and is not.
^^^ THIS. LINE. NEEDS. TO. BE. IMMORTALIZED. I want THIS on a throw pillow! I wrote the WORLD'S MEANEST REVIEW of Glass Sword (Red Queen #2) because while #1 was mildly amusing (albeit derivative), #2 was just… AAAAARGH. And now I'm afraid to post said review. It's been sitting in my drafts for weeks, JUDGING ME. The last book which made me feel this way, incidentally, is A Girl At Midnight. I avoided reviewing it because nothing pleasant would have come out of my mouth, and I do so TRY to (pretend to be) pleasant. O:)
Also, I have a (solicited, I lowkey begged) ARC, also by Simon & Schuster, called How TO Disappear, and it's a totally different book?!?!?! I love that they're publishing How To Disappear and How Not To Disappear at the same time. It's like a pro-con list. And what's better than a bookish pro-con list, really?
Also, in the past two weeks I procrastinated THE INTERNET, basically, in favor of books while I was sick (and then I just continued milking it when I healed, too, because UNINTERRUPTED READING TIME). And once I got back, I had like 10 PaperFury posts to catch up on – which I did. And to comment on – which I did. (I mean, commenting isn’t a NECESSITY, but you’re soooooooooo good at coaxing comments out of people. By the end of each post I have 35837075 things to say. Or CAPS SHOUT, either of the two.) And YOU REPLIED TO THEM ALL LIKE 6 HOURS LATER, CAIT. It was like… 10 replies in my inbox the next morning. Don’t let ANYBODY, your brain included, tell you that you aren’t good at replies – in a prompt and timely and equally CAPSY fashion. <3
POST THE REVIEW, LEXIE. YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT. I’m not even reading Glass Sword.😂 I have no interest whatsoever. I’d love for someone to explain to me why the series is so famous tho??? Like it’s not horrible, it’s just…not anything special?! I AM CONFUSE. Ahem. BAHHAHA. But okay, I’m officially worried about Girl At Midnight now.😂
Of course you’re pleasant. *pats shoulder* *feeds you pleasant cake*
OMG. SERIOUSLY!!??? I guess S&S has their bases covered for if you want to disappear or not?!
OMGGGG LEXIE. YOU MAKE ME LAUGH CRY. THANK YOU, THOUGH. <3 I was a commenting fiend that day. *flexes typing muscles* And all your comments absolutely make my day, by the way. HOW ARE YOU SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME OMG.
Tell you what – I publish my review of How To Disappear, you publish yours of How Not To Disappear, and then we can be as mean as we like! We really will have our bases covered. THEN I’ll see if I can brave posting the Glass Sword one. I mean… I’ll know how to disappear by then, in case the world turns on me. S&S ENCOURAGES A LIFE OF CRIME AND I LOVE IT ENTIRELY TOO MUCH! <3
YOU ARE THE AWESOMEST PERSON EVER, REALLY. I HAVE to be my awesomest self, too, to even the playing field. (And my severe caffeine addiction probably helps.) I've developed an entirely new level of appreciation for blogging since I've found PaperFury, and today I've alternated between reading The Dead Boy and the Paper Cut (which, incidentally, should have been published YESTERDAY and the fact that it wasn't must constitute some sort of a crime!!!) and finally, at long last, editing one of my early-draft-stage manuscripts, because INSPIRATION. #CaitforQueen ('president' is too mundane)
And also, you might enjoy A Girl At Midnight, really! I've forgotten to attach a caveat – I was mostly outraged because I felt it was uncomfortably close to Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Mortal Instruments (and by 'close', I mean… it walks the line between 'for fans of' and 'actually that'). But (a) I am in the VAST MINORITY, (b) I get irrationally upset when I feel like my favorite books are being regurgitated in other books, and (c) you weren't AS CRAZY about DoSaB as I am, so it might go down better with you. 😉 The TMI parallels (as I saw them) didn't kick in until later on, and even then they weren't as massive. So – hey – it might be a kind of DoSaB 2.0 for you! Positivity! 😉 The writing style is really quite good.
HEHE. IT’S A PLAN.😂 Although I might like How Not To Disappear because I have read a book by the author before and liked it! BUt you publish your Glass Sword one and I SHALL COME SUPPORT YOU WEARING TIN FOIL ARMOUR AND A SAUCEPAN HELMET AND BE NEFARIOUS AND PROTECTING. #legit
Omggg, your awesome self is INCREDIBLE. I am just sayin’. And I need some caffeine tho. Seriously. Awww, but you are far too nice about my Dead Boy. FAR TOO NICE. *sniffles happily* I agree though. It’s Queen or nothing. *flips hair majestically*
Omg, that is WHY I’m worried about A Girl At Midnight. Tbh, I hate rip-offs? Like I am already made at Victoria Scott’s new book Titans, because the blurb is 100% ripping of The Scorpio Races?!?!? So I’m scared to read it (but I might still because CURIOSITY) but omg no no no to rip-offs. I shall be prepared to DNF Girl at Midnight if it gets too frustrating. 😛 TMI is like one of my ultimate baby series child darling. So. I might be mildly protect of it. AHEM. I GO INTO IT WARNED! THANK YOU!
FIRSTLY, CONGRATS ON YOUR BEAUTIFUL SOCIETY 6 STORE AND HITTING 4K INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS *dances on bed*
Secondly, WOW you always read a lot of books..I read a total of one book in February (this is actually getting depressing now – i can’t wait for summer; i haven’t worked in my WIP in MONTHS and EXAMS AND UGH). It was The Boy At the Top of A Mountain by John Boyne which was actually a good book – haven’t read MG in ages but YAY.
I’m just dying for all these new books that are coming out that I need to read like NOW e,g Marissa Meyer’s new book; Leigh Bardugo’s new book, Ruta Sepety’s new book. EVERYONE’S BOOKS.
Also Victoria Schwab is amazing and fantastic – she is so motivated and her calender of things to do MAKES ME WONDER WHAT I AM DOING WITH MY LIFE. She writes so many books and studies/studied and had to tackle a lot of issue with publishing and NOW ALL THESE SUCCESSES I AM SO HAPPY FOR HER.
OOOOOh but I’m so interested in that Myers-Briggs post (psychology student(amongst other things) right here..) and I’m currently building pictures of my characters in my head while i have no time to actually write my WIP..and one of the things i am basing them on is their personality type…
I’m a mixture of INTJ and INFJ, so..people like..Remus Lupin, Darcy, Moriarty, Prince Caspian…
ALSO I JUST READ THAT INTERVIEW WITH LEIGH BARDUGO AND SHE SAID DON’T GET TOO ATTACHED AND NOW I’M SCARED ALREADY AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
*dances on bed with you* *flings sprinkles over us*
But you have like SCHOOL and EXAMS and THINGS. *nods* So you are entirely excused for just reading one book. And I love John Boyne. Although by “love” I mean, “his books make me cry ugly tears”…but I think that’s the same sort of meaning, yes?
I KNOW. I WANT EVERYONE’S BOOKS NOW, OMGGGG. I feel like they announce things WAY earlier than they use to. Which is awesome to look forward to and also torturous. Publishers love to torture us.
Ooh, what issues with publishing?! *ears perk up* NOW I AM CURIOUS. But afjdklasfd yes, I’m so glad VE Schwab is getting the recognition she deserves. <33
WAit. You are Moriarty? *breaks plate* *screams*
Aahhh what a glorious haul, Cait! I can’t wait to read Rebel of the Sands! 😀 And yes, always believe me. I can’t wait to see what you think of The Serpent King!
I think it’s Camp Nano in April, are you participating? I’ve been rewriting my Nano novel from November and it’s going very well! I’m at 36K so far. Hurrah!
I’m SO excited for Serpent King!! YOU HAVE EXCELLENT TASTE IN BOOKS SO I HAVE LIKE ZERO WORRIES. 😀
Ooh, I’m not sure about camp. Like MAYBE?!? But I honestly don’t understand how the cabins work and everyone’s explained it 98493 times and I just sit there like a scared codfish. Socialise while writing?!? I mean, omg, how does one handle that? *hyperventilates* I might be an unofficial camper, just lurking around…
Aahw thank you! You have excellent taste as well. ^_^
I don’t even know what you mean with cabins? Two of my author friends have mentioned it and asked me to participate but I don’t know? I’m still working on my current WIP, so.
OH. So you don’t haven’t done it either?!? Apparently the camps make you have to form like mini-groups of people called “Cabins”? Idek. I would explain it BUT I DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND. Eeeeep. Good on you for working so hard writing though. YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO US ALL. :’)
Love these posts! Very interested to see the 5th wave on your dissapountments list, may I ask why? It’s such a widely loved book. I also started reading it but got to chapter 4 before I got distracted by another book haha, attention span of a three year old :D. But the film coming out looks really good!!
Eliza | http://www.lipglossandpaperbacks.blogspot.co.uk
I didn’t mind The 5th Wave too much? But, egh, yes, ultimately it disappointed me because of the romance. I just thought it was weird and insta-lovey and gah. I didn’t like Evan/Cassie AT ALL. (I gave it 3-stars tho, and the cover links to my review if you’re interested in all of my ranty thoughts. 😂) I do want to see the film!!
Cait, THAT’S A LOT OF BOOKS. I really think you should devour at least 40 books/ month to finish them. I’ve heard amazing things about Not If I See You First so maybe you should start with that… Plus it has yellow cover. I’m always attracted to vibrant covers. And congrats on 4K on instagram! *throws confetti*
I really don’t know if I should be happy about VE Schwab news, I mean, I’m happy for the author, she deserves it! BUt adaptations tend to dissapoint me and ruin the book so I’m really scared rn.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED THE CROOKED KINGDOM COVER. It’s amazing.
And one last advice, if you really want to attract the attention of a certain warlock, I suggest you to throw a party with lots of glitters, dye your hair black, wear blue contact lenses, and change your name to Alec Lightwood. That would work 😉
BAHHA I KNOW RIGHT?!? And probably even if I did read 40 books a month I’d still be behind.😂 The TBR apocalypse never ends. And I’m really excited for Not If I See You First, because I’ve only ever read 1 other book with a blind character. *dances in confetti* THANK YOU.
And I totally understand about the worry-about-movie-adaptions. I just wish something like Marvel would pick up Vicious.😂 THEY WOULD DO IT SO WELL.
Excellent advice for attracting that warlock’s attention. The changing-name-to-Alec is subtle, yet perfect.
Holy shit Cait, that is a lot of books and a lot of things to share. Wow. So so pleased for your follower growth on Insta, that’s awesome! Also on your store. YOU’RE BUSY. You’re Wattpad is awesome, I’ve been seriously loving it lately, but your cliffs are not okay. NOT OKAY, OKAY?! 20 books is great though Cait, I mean, I’ve read.. 2? GAH. I’m trying, I am.. You should be so pleased with your month, KEEP UP WITH THE GOOD STUFF. <3
I KNOW. SO MUCH. *dies a little* I mean, I could make it less with the bi-weekly, but honestly this works best for me, so we’ll see how it goes.😂 AHHHH YES BUSY. So busy.
*pats shoulder* Cliffhangers are wonderful what even are you talking about.
AHHHHEM.
Also your posts this month…aFJDLSKAFD I’VE WANTED TO SHARE THEM ALL THEY ARE JUST INCREDIBLE, YOU MUST KEEP UP THIS WONDERFULNESS. <33
Woah, that’s a LOT of books there. I would definitely say read WOLF BY WOLF first because there’s a book chat for it on MONDAY and you can still be fashionably on time to the party! Plus YAAAAS to all of the Schwab book screen adaptations. I’m a little worried about the adaptation but not really because Victoria has tweeted reassuring noises from time to time so now I just need Hong Kong to get Netflix already. And your searches made me laugh so hard. How are people coming to your site so AMUSING? My organic search results are so boring.
PS: YES TO THE DYSTOPIAN MONGOL STORY. OMG. You do know I am always ready to beta that when it’s done, right? RIGHT?
PPS: And do not reply to that PS with more screeching that you want to read the witchy WIP. Because *clears throat* I did something rather risky and extremely exciting for my birthday on the blog this year 😉
OF COURSE YOU SAY WOLF BY WOLF.😂 I’m going to read it, I promise. But I think I’m going to be forced to reading Ice Like Fire right now so I don’t get the fine. (I’m terrified of library fines. I’m such a tender hearted thing.) I think the adaptions of Schwab’s books will be GOOD though because her books seem such adaptable material?! Especially Vicious. If only we can get like Marvel to pick it up.😂
I AM A MAGNET TO THE AMUSING PEOPLE.
Pffft. You’re holding out on ME with beta’ing your books. This can go two ways you know. 😉 😉 😂
(I’m just kidding, heck, yes, I would love your opinions eventually. <33)
(Also I ENTERED TO WIN YOUR BOOK.)
I just found your blog and absolutely LOVE it!! Also, how do you read so many books? I mean, I think I read a lot, but not quite that much. Plus you do other things! 😄 Tips, secrets?
Awww, THANK YOU, SHELLEY. :’) This absolutely makes my day!! I think I just read quite fast?! hehe. And like I skip watching TV or movies or whatever to read. So it all adds up!
So I just went to that MBTI-character-type site and YES. IT SAYS I’M THE SAME TYPE AS ARAGORN AND MERRY AND KILI AND BARD. Usually people say my LOTR-MBTI match is Eowyn . . . which is cool! But I like this site’s results better. And apparently I’m the same type as Tris Prior as well, which I’m ok with. (And my brainkeeper/muse is the same type as Boromir, Elizabeth Bennet, Peeta, and AMY MARCH. That last one makes so many things make perfect sense.)
In other news: Yay, you picked a book! Excellent choice (even if you end up switching to the taking-over-the-world how-to manual. I’d read either one, honestly.)
OKAY SO YOU’RE ALL THE AWESOME PEOPLE AND I’M SAURMAN, SO PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR MY ONCOMING EVIL. Ahem. Peeta though. <3 Sharing a personality with Peeta is only good news. I wonder how people figure out the fictional characters though?!?? It's so cool when they do lists like these. 😂
The How-To manual should be my side project, amirite?
I would definitely recommend ICE LIKE FIRE; while I enjoyed the first book, ILF took things to a whole new level. I’m surprised you’ve only seen negative reviews for it; obviously not everyone who liked SLA will enjoy the sequel, but IMO it has some brilliant character development and is just overall fantastic.
Oooh, that IS good news!! And I really need to just read it right now so I don’t get library fines.😂
AHHH!!! I LOVE MONTHLY RECAPS!! except that then my TBR mountain explodes…. BUT NEVERTHELESS!!! Also, do you have any good book recs for recent fictional books in India?? Me need to know for a fairytale retelling.
YOUR TBR IS WELCOME. :’) And omg I wish I had good India book recommendations. *wails* I NEED THEM TOO. I just read The Girl in the Garden which was VERY helpful for getting the culture/feel of India, but not so interesting. And then Tiger’s Curse is set in India but I found the story insufferable.😂 So when I find a good one I’ll let you know!!
Where do you get all those pretty flowers on your society6 stuff? Do you draw them? Or do you buy them from somewhere?
You should get to reading Wolf by Wolf. Gosh, I loved it. Next time I see it in a bookstore I’m totally buying it. It was my first five-star read of the year (so naturally I didn’t actually review it). And pitching a book as mongols and dragons and sandstorms is totally perfect and I totally want to read it even though I have no other knowledge of it. Yep.
Actually, that’s a lie. I’ve been stalking its Pinterest board.
I did buy them! From creativemarket.com…it’s kind of confusing with the licenses? Like I had to buy the commercial license and things so I could then sell them and I think I can only use each design once and GAH IT’S CONFUSING BUT HOPEFULLY I DO IT RIGHT AND DON’T GET THROWN IN JAIL. #dramatics Ahem. But yes. You should look up creativemarket.com soooo much, Aine, because they give away freebies every week! (Not freebies you can sell, but STILL. You can blog them and they’re awesome!) Ahem.
I WILL GET TO WOLF BY WOLF I PROMISE!!
HEheehe, I’m glad you like my pitching skills.😂
I’m READING a mind-blowing book at the moment. (GANSEY, CAIT. GANSEY. I WASN’T PROPERLY WARNED.)
Also, I love monthly your re-caps.
ALSO TV SERIES ADAPTATIONS ARE EVEN MORE AMAZING THAN MOVIE ADAPTATIONS IN MY OPINION BECAUSE THEN THEY HAVE MORE CHANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND DETAILS AND AWESOME.
Excellent post as always, Cait!!!!
WELL, I COULDN’T PROPERLY WARN YOU BECAUSE SPOILERS. BUT GANSEY. <3333 NOW YOU KNOW WHY THE SERIES IS SO GOOD AND HORRIBLE ALL AT ONCE. *kidnaps Gansey and keeps him safe*
Aww, thank you. <333 I really love writing recaps so this MEANS SO MUCH TO ME OMG.
I have yet to see a book-turned-TV-series yet actually?! But like I have HUGELY high hopes for ADSOM. 😀
AHHH I meant weekly. But I like your monthly recaps too. I love all your recaps. : )
Also, your apocalypse references? Extremely relevant to my WIP right now, as you know. ; )
OF COURSE OF COURSE.😂 YOU ARE SO AWESOME.
My TBR seems quite manageable now.
OMG LUCKY YOU. TEACH ME YOUR WAYS. *bows to your skills*
Gah, I also have The Weight of Feathers and need to get to reading already. I was all excited when I won it because I really wanted it and now here I am not reading it lol. So I vote you read that one or Never Never first because those are the two I want to read 🙂
Love all the searches, as usual, hahaha. WP stats rarely ever show me what people actually searched to find my blog though. It’s very disappointing because they can definitely be entertaining. And random compliments are the best! For some reason I’ve gotten a couple at the grocery store lately? Not complaining though 😛 And giving compliments is also the best because then you get to make someone feel good! But please don’t eat the moon, I will no longer have a blog name if you do that, and then I will have to eat all the paper in the world to get even. And I really don’t want to eat paper. Please don’t make me eat paper.
SAME. I was so excited to finally buy it and now here it is…sitting on my TBR and staring featherily at me.
Aww, WP doesn’t show you the stats?! I have Jetpack widget and that’s where I view my stats from. *nods* People are weird and hilarious online apparently.😂 And omg giving compliments is THE BEST. Plus it makes us feel good…so giving compliments is sort of selfish and rewarding. 😂 AHEM.
But then you can rename your blog Metaphors and CAITLIGHT and it would be infinitely better.
OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE YOUR RESPONSES TO THOSE SEARCH TERMS. Especially the gentle shove off a tall, tall cliff. That would be my response as well.
Congrats on making it to 4K followers on Instagram! YOU TOTALLY DESERVE IT AND MORE. *gives you a million followers* Aren’t I generous?
Omg, yes, nice random comments from mortals are so encouraging. I love them. *hugs all the nice comments*
Gah, this year is going by WAY TOO QUICKLY. Like, my brain still thinks it’s December 2015. So that’s unfortunate. I think I will probably have figured out it’s 2016 in about four months, and then the year will be almost over. *sad face*
As ever, I loved reading this. Your updates are pretty much the highlight of my existence. Good luck on your writing! 😛
We basically know how to respond to the haters. :’) Kind death. So sweet of us. Ahem.
YOU ARE GENEROUS. And nice of you to propel me along my world domination plan of action. :’) Also random niceness is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. I think it should be given out more often. NICENESS TO ALL THE THINGS. (Except for the haters of YA. They can continue falling off their cliffs.)
I can’t decide if the year is dragging or going fast.😂 I feel like I’ve done a lot??? And nothing??? Simultaneously? IS THIS WHAT ADULTING IS LIKE BECAUSE I DON’T WANT IT.
I still have not read a book this year! Okay, so it’s not like I haven’t been reading at all. The amount of stuff I’ve read on the Internet in the past month could probably fill a book (or two or three…). I just haven’t read anything sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard. And no fiction. 🙁
I’m apparently like Anne Shirley, Bella Swan, Coraline, Frodo, Romeo and Juliet, and Jane Eyre. INFPs kind of rock (well, except for Bella… she’s just kind of pathetic).
OMG. NO BOOKS AT ALL?!?! ARE YOU SURVIVING THIS THO?!? *gives you cake* But life does get busy and eats us all eh? *sighs*
Ohhhh, you are Frodo. :’) To my…Sauruman. *gulps* I SHALL BE NICE, I SWEAR.
YOU LOST MY ATTENTION AT “VICIOUS IS BECOMING A MOVIE” BECAUSE I HAD TO RUN AROUND THE ROOM SHRIEKING BECAUSE *OH HECK YES* BUT ALSO CRYING BECAUSE *THEY MIGHT SCREW IT UP* AND NOW I’M A TOTAL MESS OF HAPPY/SAD SHRIEKING.
*cough* *takes deep breath* all that author news is killing me.
WON’T IT MAKE A FABULOUS MOVIE THOUGH?!?!??!? LIKE XMEN MEETS EVERY SUPER VILLAIN MOVIE EVER OMG. IT’S GOING TO BE SO GOOD I COULD CRY. (And if it’s not good…still crying? angry tears??)
Cait, this post was, like, EVERYTHING I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED. I can’t even. I loved this.
I haven’t read a lot of books this month (and I kinda think one books was dragging me down and I still haven’t finished it), but I’ve read a couple that make my heart go pitter patter: Air Awakening & Fire Falling by Elise Kova. So good! Though there’s lots of typos because I think it’s self-published? But the story and characters are awesome and just… I love them. And I read the novella Morrighan by Mary E. Pearson and OMG it was so beautiful and added to the story and lore of the main series. So much <3. And Truthwitch! Well, I finished it the day before February started, but shhh, I'm counting it.
And since Truthwitch is on your TBR, you should TOTALLY read it! It's really awesome and yeah, it can be confusing because there's a LOT of information to digest, but seriously an awesome story and awesome characters and GIRL FRIENDSHIP TO THE MAX. Yes. Read it.
I have never considered eating the moon, but if you're offering and you'll share, then I'll have some, too.
I did give a random compliment to a Target employee about her tattoos! And to a customer that came into my work about her nails. So much sparkle.
Am I editing/drafting something? More like, I SHOULD be doing such things, but I'm not. Out of practice, man.
Authorly news? Hmm.. OH! Definitely Maggie Steifvater's picture being up for sale! I saw her progress on Twitter and was so entranced by it! So cool! And how VE Schwab's stuff is getting turned into movie/TV show – and that she wrote the script for the pilot episode! So cool! (again)
(I'm so sorry this is such a long comment but I wanted to comment on all of your questions! You bring out the giddy side of me, what can I say?)
I AM SO ENORMOUSLY GLAD, RAYNA. 😀 I really love putting together these posts, so it’s afjdklasfsd wonderfully fabulous when they’re liked as well. :’)
Ohhh, I have HEARD about this Air Awakening series and I want to try it! Pity about the typos though. D: Typos kind of jar me out of the story, sadly. AHHH I CAN’T WAIT TO START TRUTHWITCH. 😀 So I should just take it slowly and focus while reading, right?!? I’m really excited for the female friendships though, because honestly there aren’t enough books that focus on those!!
I will share the moon because I’m a magnanimous overlord like that.
Awww, YOU ARE WINNING FOR THE GIVING COMPLIMENTS!
Zomg, I need that Raven Boys drawing though. Neeeeeed. *saves money madly*
(Pfft, NEVER be sorry for long comments. <33 I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.)
Ooooh, I hadn’t heard that about the plot twist in the next ASOIAF book, but now I’m even more excited about it! Hurry up and publish that book George R.R. Martin! 🙂
*gets on knees and begs the universe for the next GRRM book*
Every week those searches get me! Ha! Where do people get this stuff from? SO much is going on in the book/movie world right now. EEEEPpp! Also your pictures are so beautiful!
I DON’T EVEN KNOW.😂 Humans are so weird. But hilarious. AHem.
And omg, I know right?! The movie people are snabbling up everything. :O I just hope they do the books justice!
I love your response for “i fell in love with a warlock and he doesn’t know i even exist what do i do i need advice.”
In December I said I was going to get back to my writing…and it is now basically March and there has been zilch movement on the front. I have found another way to keep my writing more together than saving files on my computer, so hopefully this crazy train gets off the ground soon.
I also had a birthday, which was celebrated with the man and one friend because all my other friends are Debbie downer party pooper peanut butts.
Who even GOOGLES that stuff though.😂 Humans…they are strange and hilarious creatures.
Aww, I do understand about the writing. *nods* I swore 2016 would be my year for basically ONLY edits/rewrites. And here I am…planning to write a new novel. I’m hopeless. *sighs* Have you tried Scrivener?! It honestly makes me want to write because it’s so organised. :’)
HAPPPPPPY BIRTHDAY TOOOOO YOOOOU! *flings confetti at you*
If it makes it easier, The Lunar Chronicles aren’t totally over with Stars Above… Iko is getting a graphic novel series! Marissa Meyer is writing for it, and I think they’ve released a couple of sketches so far. It won’t be totally the same, but… it’s something.
OH YEAH!! I FORGOT ABOUT THE GRAPHIC NOVEL!! (I didn’t realise it was about Iko though?! So omg I am so up for that.)
From what I’ve seen/read about it, there are going to be cameos from the others, but it is Iko-centric (which will be totally fun, because IKO.) The release date is… not tomorrow and therefore too far away, but it’s coming!
I love your Society 6 store so much. Yay for 4k on IG!!! Very cool. Lots of great books you got. I am sad to see When We Collided as a disappointment 🙁 Have a great week!
Aww, thank you, Grace!! *flails* I’m pretty sure I’ll be in the minority with When We Collided though, don’t worry. ;D My compassionate side needed to be in working order to appreciate it and…I was a bit Vulcan.😂
I do not believe that there was anything accidental about you finding that list of upcoming Australian YA.
Shhhhh, Rain. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT. #lies
I have, on multiple occasions, contemplated eating the moon. I have possibly stayed on one book this WHOLE month. o.O
*gets out knives and forks* Let’s do this then. NO MORE EXCUSES. THE MOON IS OOOOOURS.
OHMIGOD I CANNOT STOP SHRIEKING HOW GLAD I AM THAT YOU LOVED THE IMPOSTER QUEEN JUST AS MUCH AS I DID!!! That book was too amazing. I have a 2016 favorite novel! I read Stars Above and kinda put it down with an enormous, dramatic sigh. Basically that book means the end of a fantastic series! HEARTLESS IS COMING! Anyway, those searches are fabulously hilarious! Are they searches from your blog…. or google? I’m confused as to where that stash of humor is coming from! 🙂
ISN’T IT JUST, THOUGH?!?!? OMGGGGG. Why haven’t more people read it too?! We need to THROW IT AT ALL THE PEOPLE AFJKDALFSDJKLJ. Ahem. I can’t wait for Heartless. *happy dance*
OH. Those are searches that people made on google to find my blog! I get them through my stats page. (I should probably explain that at that section on my post right/!? That would be clever of me.😂)
I love that header picture! A lot.
*sees name* *fangirls*
I’m excited for Wolf by Wolf, too! I can’t believe I’ve had it out from the library since October. /o\
“Cake is happiness. Dragons are happiness. Free giftcards for books are happiness.” <– So much yes.
"One is excellent and clever and detailed and phenomenal. The other is Red Queen and is not." <– Even more yes. 😂
I seriously can't believe how much good Victoria Schwab news there has been lately!
Ooh, are you writing me a book for my birthday? 😉
I think you already know all the things about my life, so….start with Wolf by Wolf? Or maybe Stars Above. I need to read that, too! Obviously.
*fangirls because you’re fangirling* I hope you do realise how awesome you are though…RIGHT?! RIGHT. *nods* Maybe we should buddy-read Wolf by Wolf and stop procrastinating it?!😂
I’m so so excited for Morning Star though. Eeeeep. (I will forever be baffled how Red Queen is so hyped. Like…why??? Who chooses the hype books? I need to talk to them.)
OH DEFINITELY. I’ll just whip you up a whole book real fast. 😉
I’m supposed to be buddy reading Wolf by Wolf, but I’ve been supposed to be buddy reading it since October, so….yeah.
I can’t wait for you to read Morning Star! We will have lots to talk about, haha. I’m so wary of hyped books these days. Morning Star lived up to expectations, though.
I mean…that is what you do, isn’t it? And the last week of March is my birthday. So really it just makes sense. 😉
BAHAH. Okay then!! Well good luck reading it…eventually. 😉 Every time I tell myself I’m going to read it, a library book reminds me of its imminent due-return date and I have to do what I’m told when it comes to library books. I SHOULD REALLY NOT BE LIBRARYING. ahem.
Of course, of course. *prepares to whip up a book for you*
After I read Untamed as my first book of 2016 and rated it 4.5 stars, I fell into this 3 star ARC hole until last week when I finished The Smell Of Other People’s Houses. I adored it! I am so happy you mentioned Bone Gap! I knew there was another book I was looking to borrow at the library. My sister wanted to borrow money, so she bribed me with a trip to the library, so I didn’t have to trundle mucho books in the bus, but I only ended up getting one book. One! All of the books I really wanted were checked out, which was probably good because of March ARCpocalypse looming. I did get four free posters for giveaways though, so that was nice. I am so happy you loved ADSOM! Congrats on the successful kick-off of your Society6 shop. I love it! 🙂
YAYYY FOR UNTAMED! *dances in Untamed happiness* Oh. But falling into a 3-star hole is just about the worst. OMG BONE GAP THOUGH. YOU MUST TRY IT. I can’t believe I never actually reviewed it on the blog…buuuut, it’s one of my ultimate favourite books of ever. <33
March ARCpocalypse.😂 I LOVE THAT.
Wow! That is one monumental recap!! Lots happened in February! I see a few books up there in my queue or on my Kindle so it was great to hear what you thought of them. February was really busy for me. I had a sale on my novel, Summer Haikus, at mid-month. One of my other books, Removed, is having the last of free days right now. AND I finished off edits on my upcoming cozy mystery series set in Japan, The Daydreamer Detective. Phew! I really BROUGHT IT in February. Now I can’t wait to get back to my Kindle and just read. PS) I love your mugs! They’re gorgeous!
HEHE. I KNOW.😂 I hope it’s not too overwhelming. Ooh, sounds like your February was ultimately quite good too, though?! Yay for bookish success! *hi fives* COZY MYSTERIES SET IN JAPAN!??! *ears perk up* Good luck with those last round of edits. Omg, edits can be tough little monsters, can’t they? But suuuuch a good feeling when they’re finished. :’)
Your month looked pretty cool! Also thanks for the link tot the list of YA Australian books coming out, I found it very helpful.
I’m so glad, Rose!! *happy dance* I seriously added like 90% of that list to my goodreads.😂
I personally like monthly wrap-ups as opposed to weekly wrap-ups, so yay! Good luck with that new book that shall be written in March (or maybe April).
(Side note: I want to just bask in the glory of your photography more and more every single week.)
OMG GOOD!! I’m glad you’re a fan of this😂 Like I’m very conscious of how long they are?! But I think weekly can be tedious to read sometimes too *nods* SO YAY. LET’S SEE HOW THIS GOES. And eep, thank you! XD I hope it ends up being a March write, because I’m desperate to type it up. heeh.
Awww, YOU ARE TOO NICE TO ME.
HAHA looking at search results is my favourite. Like…”are YA books rubbish” for some reason?? I have clearly failed at my blog.
BUT OMG SUCH PRETTY BOOKS <3 <3 I so need to read Untamed. Not sure why it's not in my hands already.
OMG I KNOW RIGHT?! I seriously want to know what kind of people type this stuff in…actually. I take it back. I don’t even want to know. I’ll just laugh at them amusedly.😂
Pssshhh I haven’t been caught up on comments since like, 1992. And I mean, I didn’t have internet in 1992, so yeah. I’m sure you weren’t even alive. My point is, comments + caught up = a lie. ANYWAY. Bee is right, read The Serpent King. Read it and love it. I am DYING for How Not to Disappear, but it’s like, hard to find in the US, so that makes me sad. I pre-ordered it and then amazon was like “Haha just kidding, we don’t have that book”. Jerks. Also, I really liked Thanks for the Trouble. Lots. And yeah, I just want to read all the books. OH! Ice Like Fire- here’s what you should do- skim like, the first 70%, because the last 30 is all you really need to read book 3, and then take it back to the library, but make sure you scowl at them.
I LOVE your Society6 shop! I have an order coming my wayyyyy. It makes me happy. I wish I could buy ALL the things. But alas, I have started my collection at least 😀 And congrats on the Instagram followers! That is AMAZING, but you also really deserve it, because your pictures are so, so fabulous! I seriously do not understand HOW you do it all. Writing, reading, blogging, instagram, twitter, making pretty things for Etsy, making pretty things for Society6, ruling your kingdom, eating cake… I mean it’s a LOT of stuff. And you are freaking amazing at ALL of it. I don’t understand, and I am leaving before I feel the full weight of my inadequacy 😉
Actually…nope. I wasn’t alive in 1992, oh Ancient Shannon. What must it have been like to live pre-internet? DID YOU PET DINOSAURS MUCH? Ahem. And of course Bee is right. I’m desperate to read The Serpent King even though I have a horrible fear of snakes. 😂 AWK AMAZON IS MEAN. Just pop over to Australia and I’ll give you my copy. 😉
OMG YOU MAKE ME LAUGH ABOUT ICE LIKE FIRE. 😂 I had to send it back unread (tragedy) but I’ll get it out again eventually. *nods*
AFJDKLASDJ YOU ARE SO NICE TO ORDER FROM ME SHANNON, OMG. <333 I SHALL HUG YOU NOW AND SPRINKLES CAKE IN YOUR HAIR.
I basically have like 9 arms and 2 dragons secretaries and my dog does the emails.
I AM SO GLAD I READ THIS POST BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW VICIOUS WOULD BE A MOVIE OR THAT KINGDOM OF CROWS HAD A COVER OR ANY OF THAT STUFF.
ALSO ALL THE MERCH LOOKS COOL.
THAT IS ALL.
YOU ARE MOST WELCOME. I AM LIKE THE FOUNTAIN OF BOOKISH NEWS. *nods*😂
Wow, looks like you have had a great month! I have read both Not if I see you first and Stars Above. Not If I See You First was SO GOOD!! The part that I thought was interesting was that we had almost no idea what the characters looked like (unless they specifically mentioned something) because the MC didn’t know. I thought the author did a great job of writing for a blind character. And now that I read Stars Above, I am seriously grieving. I don’t want it to be over!! Yeah, I am still in the denial stage of the grief process. I ordered one of your pillows and I can’t wait to get it! I live in Italy so I am still waiting, but hopefully soon. Your designs are so cute. Love ALL of them!
YES IT WAS!! *flails* I’m really excited about Not If I See You, because I’ve only basically read ONE book with a blind protagonist besides this, and that’s really sad. I want to read about aaaall the things.
Omg but I don’t want Stars Above to be over either. WHAT WILL I DO WITHOUT MORE CINDER IN MY LIFE, OMG.
Eeeeeep, thank you for ordering, though. THAT ABSOLUTELY MAKES MY DAY. *showers you with cake*
OMG Cait those photos are so beautiful and YES all of a sudden all the book mail has picked up (Hurrah!). I’m reading My Sister Rosa at the moment and I can just sense the big twist at the end! It looks like we totally agreed about Assassin’s Heart, Firstlife and 5th Wave. I can’t wait to read The Crown’s Game! Your society6 store is completely beautiful! Also congrats on being caught up on comments and all the writing lovely! It sounds like your minions are back.
AHHH THANK YOU, JEANN. I’m having fun with this cluttered style.😂 Omg, but yes, what’s with all the bookmail?! Definitely not complaining, but I didn’t get any for MONTHS at the end of 2015 and now here it all is.😂
(And yes, the dragons secretaries are working MUCH harder, thank goodness. I don’t just keep them for their pretty faces. Ahem.)
Gah, look at all of those books! You asked for suggestions on what to start with, and my vote is most definitely The Weight of Feathers first. It’s totally gorgeous and enchanting and full of magical realism and I adore the two narrators and it was one of my top favorite reads last year! YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE, CAIT. Also, I have heard marvelous things about The Serpent King, and I totally want you to read Not if I See You First and let me know what you think.
Also, CONGRATS on the success of your Society6 store–and on finishing edits for The Dead Boy and the Paper Cut! And best of luck with the writing of your new book, whichever month you decide to start it. 🙂
OKAY I TRUST YOU!! I shall bump The Weight of Feathers higher up my tbr because magical realism = my ultimate darling. *flails* FANTASY. Ahem. But omg these books are just all so exciting this month?!? It’s so hard to pick which to read.😂
You’re so nice, Taylor!! <33 THANK YOU.
February was a pretty busy month for me, but I did manage to squeeze in a little bit of reading. I finished Air Awakens by Elise Kova, which ended up being my first 5 star book of 2016. I was super impressed and surprised that it was so amazing. The streak of good books did not last long though. I read Truthwitch with super high hopes due to all of the hype, but I was really disappointed. I mean, it was still an okay book, but I do not understand where all of the hype is coming from. I do think that it was confusing and there was just too much going on with a lot of different perspectives. I could not keep up with everything that was going on while trying to understand the nature of the book. I did like the characters though. Safi and Merik were sassy and the rest of the cast were dynamic and interesting too.
I hope March is just as good as February was for you and good luck with writing your new book! I cannot wait to hear more about it!
Oooh, I want to read Air Awakens! I see it, like, EVERYWHERE and that means I need to know what the good fuss is about. 😉 UGH. I finished Truthwitch now and I’m with ya. It was disappointing and bland and confusing. D: Definitely doesn’t deserve the hype. I’m actually confused as to WHY books get suddenly randomly hyped up that much??? For me, it just felt like a knock-off Throne of Glass. 🙁 (Not that I like Throne of Glass either…but still…)
Happy March to you too!!
Assassin’s Heart wasn’t good??? WHY? That one looks cool and I’ve been wanting to read it… so now I need to know why you didn’t.
“who needs a bowl anyways” — Me? No offense, but eating cereal off the floor isn’t fun. Okay, I legit love the search results, but most of the time your comments are even more hilarious. I laughed so hard this morning reading those XD
“how to stack books in a tall bookcase” — You kinda…just…oh gosh, it’s hard to explain? YOU JUST SORTA STACK THEM. I love you, Cait XD
“adults shouldn t read ya” — Let me give you a gentle shove off a tall tall cliff. this one is my favorite XDDD You are so funny, Cait XD
I’m so excited about your Society6 store!!! And I’m so happy it’s working out so well for you. EVENTUALLY I WILL BUY THINGS FROM YOU I PROMISE.
If you click on the cover it’ll take you to my review *nods* I MIGHT review it on the blog?? But, idek. I just ranted basically.😂 BUT YEAH, GAH. It wasn’t even very assassin-y or good. Bleh.
I’M SO GLAD YOU THINK I’M FUNNY.😂 Honestly I wonder if I’m just weird and not funny but. <3333 You are so nice.
aHEM. BUT YUS. I'm glad the Society6 has been working and hasn't been an embarrassing failure. Omg, when I'm rich and famous I'll send YOU glorious bookish mug presents. <33
omo you are the best human of ever. And I will send you random fandom jewelry.
You were disappointed in the 5th wave too? Ugh I wanted it to be a good book but didn’t.
Cakes and dragons and money for books are the only happiness. Life wouldn’t be life without them!
I still can’t believe February is almost done…
Also I SHALL MISS YOU WHEN YOU”RE GONE!! But I understand that in order to receive brilliant works from you we must let you take breaks now and again. Seriously though I want to read your book about the mongols. 😀
Hope you having a fabulous day dearies. 🙂
Saaaaame. Like it was better than I thought it would be? But the romance. *gags* It was stupid and unbelievable.
CAKE AND DRAGONS. <333 That's all we need. (I mean, well, maybe other things...but those are the priorities.)
Hopefully the Mongol book will be another wattpad story.😂 FINGERS CROSSED. And you'll have me for most of March so don't fret. *showers all with cake*
Ugh yes the romance. 😛
Pshhhaw no we need nothing more than cake and dragons. 😉
Yay!! I can’t wait. 😀 Oh good, we can’t go very long without your gloriousness. 😀 *eats all the cake*
“I have a slight weakness for characters named Thomas” << This explains much.
I'm convinced that I really, really need to read VE Schwab or else life is incomplete. I follow her insta, but haven't read any of her books yet. So. . . which book do you think I should read first (because I'm going to buy one of them, which means I'm committing). And I must finish the Raven Cycle. I've only read the first book and now WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO ADAM? I might die if I never find out. *sobs* Sorry for the . . . emotions. But you mentioned Maggie, so my mind wandered to those Raven Boys and Blue and I love them all.
Another book is in the writing?! Sounds exciting!
I’M SO GLAD YOU UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE.😂 I actually named my Thomas after Maze-Runner-Thomas, and now I have a thing for Thomases ever-after. <3 (Except for the children's TV show train thing? He's annoying. Ugh.) AHHHHEM.
Dude. YOU MUST read a VE Schwab book. I'm like 99% sure you would like them, plus they have really witty banter an minimal romance. *nods* AND ALSO THE RAVEN CYCLE CALLS TO YOU. AND I ALWAYS MENTION MAGGIE STIEFVATER. I'M LIKE A CREEPER FAN.
My February wasn’t as cool as yours, that’s for a fact!
I pretty much hated Truthwitch so I hope it works out better for you! I’ve been dying to The Crown’s Game, so curious to see the blog tour!
AND CONGRATS ON INSTA ! I love your pics so very well deserved!
Omg, I finished Truthwitch and…GAHHH I HATED IT TOO. :O I do not understand why it’s so famous.😳
Aww, but thank you. <33
Based on your reading list, I think you will like “Girl at Midnight”. Even my wife, who does not like fantasy books, enjoyed it.
Aw, thanks for that recommendation, Jeremy! 🙂
It does seem like February went really quick! Yay for checking out Not if I See You First. I hope you enjoy it – I really enjoyed it. 🙂
-Lauren
And we even had the extra day this year and everything AND STILL IT WENT TOO FAST.😂
SO excited to see what you think of Wolf by Wolf Cait (although I already know you’re going to love it xD). Ice Like Fire definitely isn’t as good as Snow Like Ashes (primarily because of the pacing), which is a shame because the ending is amazing. And I hope you love Stars Above – I know what a huge fan you are of Marissa Meyer, so hopefully these short stories are satisfying. Thanks for sharing Cait and, as always, fabulous recap! ♥
I KNOW! I KNOW! I WILL LOVE IT!!😂 Hopefully I’ll read it this week, actually?! And I had to send Snow Like Ashes back unread in the end *wails* But I will get it out again because, even if it’s a bit dodgy, I need to know the finale. I CANNOT WAIT FOR STARS ABOVE. ANOTHER ONE I SHOULD’VE READ YESTERDAY. OMG.
Like the monthly format! I had a slower reading month with 6 books read, and the pace was a nice change for me 🙂
That does sound like a nice change, though! Reading shouldn’t be a race by any means, right?! 🙂
I juuuust got The Impostor Queen — you better not be leading me astray, Cait! :p
OMG OMG. I HOPE YOU LOVE IT. TELL ME IF YOU DO?!?!? ;D
Cait, all of the things on your store are absolutely gorgeous! I NEED something from it – I know I do.
The cover of Gemina is BEAUTIFUL and it sounds so amazing. How are we going to wait until October to read it??
Hope everything goes great with the new book you’re planning on writing.
Also, wanted to say – thanks for the fictional characters personality type list!! I love things like that, and I’m an INTJ too! One day, we WILL rule the world. 😉
YES YOU PROBABLY DO. 😂 Ahem. But omggg, yes Gemina is a gorgeous shade of blue.<3 I was betting on green, but HA I was very wrong. 😛 We...re-read Illumiane?!😂
OH...ohhhh, Olivia. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE INTJ. *spoken like a true INTJ*
I think the most mind blowing book I read in February was Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I’m editing the first draft of my book, and writing the first draft of my new Wattpad story, Gearbound, and then I randomly started writing an anti-hero story.
AHHH I LOVE FANGIRL TOO!!! I totally relate to Cath…so. so. much.😂 And eep, wattpad stories FTW! Also Gearbound is an awesome title, by the way. And did you say anti-hero story?! *perks up happily* THAT SOUND GRAND.
OH MY GOSH! Weekly Fury’s are my FAVORITE! This made my February even more awesome. My favorite part is the author news. You always find something I didn’t know yet. Such as, V.E. Schwab news. I recently became a fan of hers and have read Vicious and need to get on to A Darker Shade of Magic. I also need to start the Raven Boys series. UGH, so many books so little time. Have I ever given random compliments? Umm, yeah. I randomly thank my mom for naming me Leah, because I love my name:)
AFJDAKLFDS I AM SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT, OMG, LEAH, YOU HAVE NO IDEA. YOU PRECIOUS BEAN. <333 Thank you. *happy flails* Ahem. Omg VE Schwab is amazing and I'm so glad she's getting tons of recognition right now!
dUDE: THE RAVEN BOYS = YES. You need to get onto that. *nods sagely*
*waits for cake*
Finally, another person who was not a fan of The 5th Wave. *high five*
*hi fives you with cake* I didn’t LOATHE it or anything?! But the romance ruined the whole thing.😂
OMG, those searches. Those might be my favourite part of your recap posts. The searches are hilarious. Your responses – on point, which means, just as hilarious. Especially about that wizard love problem. Like, seriously, people?
And the pics in this post are amazing! Oh, lord Cait, teach me your ways of book photography! 😀
HOW DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN FIND MY BLOG. THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW.😂 But they are endlessly amusing. Ahem.
Aww, thankyou!! *flails*
I love your wrap-up! It’s so fun to read and the pictures are gorgeous. You’ve inspired to post my February Wrap-Up which I’ve completely forgotten to get to because I’m swimming in assignments, stress, and lack in free time. Hopefully I can do some bloggy things this weekend because I miss it. :/
Aww, thanks you Sarah! Agh for stress and lack of free time though. Life without free time is TIRING. *nods sadly* I hope you do snatch some time to blog!
It sounds like you had a really fun month. ^ ^ It was crazy busy for me. I went out of the country to Canada to visit a friend and it was so fun! Thanks so much for contributing to my post and for linking it. ^ ^
Ooh, travelling! CANDA! WOOT. ;D And thanks for inviting me to do that post!
I really love reading your blog, Cait. It’s always so entertaining, and I think your posts are 100% awesome. Also, I feel you on the gigantic pile of books that you acquired; I have a similarly (and distressingly/amazingly) large pile of books that I somehow managed to get my hands on in February. Here’s to hoping we read them all!! As for writing, I’m in the middle of drafting the last part of a story I started last year, and I’m hoping to finish it this month. WE SHALL SEE.
AWWW, ALEXA. *sniffles happily* YOU ARE SO NICE TO ME, OMG, CAKE FOR YOU MY FRIEND. And yes! Here’s to hoping we suddenly find 26 hours in our day and use the extras for eating books. *nods* Oh oh and good luck for your writing too! YOU GOT THIS.
20 books in a month is quite an impressive number! It usually takes me twice as long. I finished up C.S. Pacat’s Captive Prince trilogy (which ended up being every bit as awesome as I’d hoped) and have been on a Ben Aaronovitch binge. Looking forward to seeing what March brings.
Those Instagram app tips look super helpful! Thank you so much for sharing the link.
Ooh, I have heard mixed things about the Captive Prince trilogy and I’m a bit curious.😂 I’m glad you enjoyed the ending! And yuuuus, 20 books really IS a lot, hehe. I’m just used to aiming so high and I NEED TO CALM DOWN and just focus on enjoying what I read.
Random comment: I don’t agree on Thomas being INTJ. I would totally put him as an INFJ, which is very close, but at the same time very, very different. Feel me???
i love reading recaps, but especially YOUR recaps because 1) those google searches are always the funniest, 2) BOOK HAUL & BOOK PICTURES yes please, 3) i get to stay updated on your life AND the community (i’m generally active, but will simultaneously miss out on some awesome news and posts *sigh*). ANYWAY, thanks for sharing the raven boys thing because NOW I WANT TEN, as well as some items on your society6 store because GAH looks fantastic! yay for a successful febraury! (even though you mentioned it being unproductive in the comments of my recap; let’s blame it on the short month) i hope march is going well for you so far 🙂
