Wolves of Adalore is the fast-paced fantasy adventure that will keep you turning pages!
I hadn’t read an epic fantasy in a while and I missed it, so it was fun getting to dive back into this genre with a YA fantasy reminiscent of Game of Thrones and Ash Princess! It packs a lot into the pages, spinning you into this world of backstabbing royals and murderous sibling rivalry and a country on the brink of change.
I’m a huge fan of sibling-centric books, so that was definitely my favourite element of this book. It has such a complicated, twisty royal family. Niabi killed for her throne, and Crispin and Salome are fugitives hidden in the forests, training for the day they can avenge their murdered family and take back their throne. Crispin and Salome are the loyal and heartfelt displaced teens, furious at their sister for betraying the family, and also missing their other murdered siblings. But Niabi’s chapters and perspective was also fascinating. She has such love for her son, while also still being super cunning and ruthless. I also enjoyed a lot of the side-characters in her chapters, including Pash, who just seemed so mysterious and tricky.
Once the queen is aware her younger siblings Crispin and Salome are still alive, she’ll stop at nothing to see them dead and protect her throne.
“Be vigilant, my son, for those who stand for their beliefs will surely be challenged to defend them.”
There are also a lot of narrators, so the world felt very vast. I did wish there had been more of Crispin/Salome (they were my favourites 😂) but it was super interesting getting to read from so many perspectives. It also added more suspense in wondering who would survive 👀
It Also Has…
- intriguing court politics
- Crispin and Salome have a lovely sibling bond 🥺 and also like to whoop each other in training 😪👌🏻
- secret/lost royals trope
- badass fighter girls with big destinies
- dangerous journeys
- mysterious mentors
- cliffhanger that will leave you needing a sequel!
