If you’ve ever wondered what type of writer you might be…I am here to tell you.
Or, well, you’ll tell yourself after you take the super handy quiz I made below. Inspired from doing a 10 Types of Book Bloggers quiz ages ago. Enjoy!
1. THE TURTLE
The easiest way to describe you is: SLOW. You are a strict adherer to the saying “slow and steady wins the race”. You don’t write quantity, you write quality. And it definitely shows (you little genius). Your books are probably long and detailed because you won’t rush this baby.
2. THE SHINY IDEA CHASER
You could fill an entire ROOM with the story ideas you have. You get inspiration from anything! (The shower is notoriously inspiring…where is your waterproof notebook??) You have pinterest boards and word documents and sticky-notes and notebooks and notes on your phone and…and…okay. You just have a lot of (awesome) ideas. You just need time to write them all!
3. THE INTENSE PLOTTER
You have got this sorted. There’s nothing like a 10,000-word outline and a 6-book plan, right?! You know what’s going to happen way before it happens. Sometimes people accuse you of not being spontaneous, but pfft to them. Your books are complex, tight, and delicious.
4. THE NEED FOR SPEEDER
You write fast. Super fast. 10,000-words a day? Pfft. You’ve done it copiously. You write fast and furious and, coincidentally, you don’t write a lot. Your creative well gets depleted fast and you take long breaks to search for inspiration.
5. THE NAONOWRIMOER
You function best on a deadline and with a large cheering-squad. NaNo hits off 3x a year and you’re there for each one. You struggle and revel in the deadline simultaneously. WORD WARS? You’ve got a battle axe.
6. THE ONE-HIT-WONDER
So there was this one time you wrote a book. Aaaand, that was about it. You’re constantly reworking said book. (It’s going to be amazing one day but just…not…quite…yet.) You either would like to write more (if you had the time) or you’ve got a been-there-done-that philosophy and you’re off snorkelling the Mariana Trench.
7. THE PROJECT PROCRASTINATOR
You really suck at the whole “apply seat of pants to chair and WRITE”. But what about pinterest? Twitter? Better do your emails? And you’ve got like 24020 other things to do as well BUT YOU DO LIKE TO WRITE! You just…um…get distracted. Doing write-every-day challenges really motivates you. But, let’s face it, you do more fangirling (dream cast? mini-movie trailers? interviews? drawings?) over your characters than actually writing about them.
8. THE LITERARY AXE-MURDERER
fKilling one character is cute. You kill HUNDREDS. If someone gets out of your book alive they’re seriously lucky (and probably suffering PTSD from your abuse). Your spare nothing. Toughness is life. Okay, so maybe you’re a little crazy, but you know how to break a reader’s feels.
9 THE MULTI-TASKER
That writer’s working on one project? Aww, so adorable. You handle 6+ at one time. Plus you’re doing edits on a few manuscripts, beta-ing for a friend, casually writing a dozen novels, and, oh, plotting 2x dozen more. You’re like an octopus.
10. THE SECRETEST
Shhhh! All your projects are SECRET. Most people don’t even know you write. It’s not that you’re embarrassed, per se, it’s just that writing is incredibly personal to you and you don’t want to show it off until it’s as good as it can be. You would probably die if someone read your unedited work. Well. Scrap that. You’d die if someone read ANY of your work. But you have the world oh-so-curious.
Also! I created a quiz for you! If it doesn’t show up, you can find the link here.
Ella @ Once Upon a Bookish Time
OMG THAT POLL WAS AWESOME! I GOT THE SHINY IDEA CHASER AND IT FITS ME PERRRRRFECTLY BEYOND BELIEF. I honestly have billions of book ideas…and no time to write them. I’m to busy thinking them up, remember?! I NEED TO STEAL SOME OF YOUR SPEED. *pinches your speed and speeds away with it* <—LAUGH AT THAT JOKE IT'S FUNNY.
Cait @ Paper Fury
*stomps foot* NO, I WILL NOT LAUGH.okay fine. BAHAHAH. YOU'RE ADORABLE AND PUNS ARE THE BEST.
Midnight Rain Dragon
According to the quiz, I’m a NaNoWriMoer, but I’d have said I was a secretest. Seriously, before my WIP is as good as it can be, NOBODY will see it. NOBODY. Also a contender for the multi-tasker (I need NaNoWriMo and part of my current WIP at once and have absolutely no issue with having primary and secondary WIPs). This is opposed to only doing NaNoWriMo once (I’ll probably do it this year too – depends whether I’m editing or not). Still loved the quiz though – it was a quiz! What’s not to love? I’ve never had the shiny ideas problem (much) – usually, I just write it down and keep going with my WIP.
Cait @ Paper Fury
Ooh, my quiz FAILED. hehe. I wasn't sure if it'd work out so well. x) I completely understand that need for NOBODY to ever see, although I'm sloooowly changing. But it's taken me 5 years of writing to get brave. I do suffer from shiny ideas but I never abandon a project to start a new one. But, no joke, I have 23 ideas on my wall right now and THAT'S JUST THE SURFACE. *gulps*
Ella
I think I am The Need for Speeder type. When an idea hits me I stop with what I’m currently doing and I run for my laptop or notebook to write because I don’t know when will the next idea hit me. I am a procrastinator as well that’s why I don’t do well with deadlines. I believe deadlines are created to alter nightmares when you’re awake LOL
Now I’m gonna go try that quiz. 😀
Cait @ Paper Fury
DEADLINES ARE EVIL.
Alyssa
I’m pretty sure I’m a 2 and an 8. But … the quiz showed I’m a turtle? (I take offense to that. I was born in the Year of the Rabbit. Hmph.) Although now I think on it, I suppose that is true to some extent — I chip away at it all the time. I also have an entire folder of ideas that I’m going to write but never have time to, since I like to work on one project at a time. Argh. It’s nerve-wracking.
But Cait, don’t think we haven’t noticed. You haven’t shared which type you are yet. ;P
Cait @ Paper Fury
OH YOU ARE DIVERGENT. x) Aw, I shall call you BUNNY RABBIT from now on then. I think I'm year of the dog. hehe, random, I know. But you started it. *nods*I did! In my little bio at the end of the post! I'm a mixture too. (well COME NOW the quiz doesn't work on me because I made it) but I'm a mix between Shiny Ideas and Need for Speed.
La La in the Library
The quiz said I was a turtle, which was what I was going to say I considered myself to be mainly, but I have a few others mixed in. I do chase shiny new ideas. I have a notebook full of sketchy outlines and first chapters. I am an intense plotter. I also procrastinate and am pretty secretive. The secretive part has only been since blogging and getting to know some authors pretty well. I don’t want them to think I am butt kissing to get an in, or something, because I truly do love their work and them too. You will never see me tweeting about writing or discussing it with them. Have you put anything new up on Wattpad?
Cait @ Paper Fury
*whispers* You are clearly a Divergent writer. YOU ARE ALL OF THEM. I think I've got 4 chapters up on Wattpad now?? Maybe 5? GAH. I should check. hehe.
La La in the Library
I will be going to Wattpad then.
Inge @ Bookshelf Reflections
Hahahaha yes to all the things, this is so relatable. I am most definitely the NaNoWriMoer (which was also my result for the quiz) – I’ve joined Camp Nano in July 2014, NaNo in November 2014, and now I’m joining again this April. It’s the only time I make any REAL progress. I try to write in between NaNo, but then The Procrastinator pops up. “Why, I haven’t played Candy Crush in MONTHS! Wouldn’t it be fun if I started again?”
Cait @ Paper Fury
OMG YOU ARE DOING APRIL? I WANT TO DO APRIL. The cabins idea sounds simultaneously terrifying and fun. x)
Inge @ Bookshelf Reflections
Want to join the cabin I’m in?
Cait @ Paper Fury
YES. Although I have to come up with a book first, apparently. I have to DECIDE. Gah.
Inge @ Bookshelf Reflections
AWESOME. You’ll be in good company. What’s your username?
Cait @ Paper Fury
It is *drumroll* PAPERFURY. HA! I usually go CaitGrace but someone else is my name and that bothers me. 🙁
Imogen Elvis
That quiz is epic! I got the NaNoWriMoer, which totally suits me. I just apply the NaNoWriMo speed to the rest of the year as well. And I get the slow editing thing too. Writing is fast. Editing is ever so slow. I do mine in short, intense bursts it turns out. I’ve done next to nothing all week (after my epic editing session last week) and then I do 8k in a day. Writing habits are weird, are they not?
Cait @ Paper Fury
YOU ARE LIKE SPEEDY TOO, THOUGH. I'm exactly the same!! WE ARE WRITING TWINS. I write fast, edit super slow, and I have like huge breaks between books. Writing habits are totally weird, but hey, at least we know what works for us, right?!
Cynthia
I am the procrastinator . . . . not that I needed a quiz to tell me that. But then again, the quiz was one more thing I could do instead of write. Ha
Cait @ Paper Fury
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL, MY FRIEND.
Beth
I’m a mixture of number 2 and number 7. Which isn’t the best combination really, ’cause it means that I NEED a meticulous plan before I write, but I can’t get on and make that plan because I’m too busy procrastinating. Basically right now I’m a writer in spirit; not in practice.
Beth x
Cait @ Paper Fury
Oh oh I understand that. I'm so often a writer in spirit and not actual in practise. HA. I feel like an intensely slovenly edit turtle at the moment. -_-
Emily @ Loony Literate
I’M A NANOWRIMOER according to your quiz (which is excellent, by the way!). I think I’m also a Shiny Idea person. It SEEMS like I’m also a procrastinator, but, you know, I’m also busy with school and working and reading and blogging and it gets EXHAUSTING SOMETIMES.
But you’re motivating me. LET’S WRITE!!
Kara @ Diary of a Teen Writer
THIS IS AWESOME. I got the Shiny Idea Chaser… Which is very accurate, to say that least. I mean, I finish things, so I don’t abandon projects to write another… but SO MANY IDEAS. ALL THE TIME. It drives me insane.
Cait @ Paper Fury
I FEEL THE PAIN I TRULY DO. I have 20+ book ideas I want to write, and, um, I almost always come up with a new one every month. So YEAH. I need 34 life times so I can get all this done.
Annie
I totally have so many unpublished posts. As a novelist I’m a muti-tasker. As a blogger, totally the run away idea kid. I think of it like a haunted circus (because when I realized at one point I had more drafts than posts I’d just read The Night Circus). It’s like there’s the show that’s going on up front. But behind that there’s all these tents full of things happening you can’t see 🙂
Cait @ Paper Fury
I totally totally relate to this. xD I don't know whyyyy but I just never post everything I write! (That is a post in itself, hehe.)
Mishma @ Chasing Faerytales
Great post Cait!
I got The Shiny Idea Chaser from your quiz, and I personally think that I am the turtle, the shiny idea chaser and the secretest.I have tons of ideas, and I’ve written them all in my precious darling notebook-it’s the most priceless possession of my life!-but I hesitate to tell them to anyone.
Cait @ Paper Fury
I've started writing all my ideas on sticky-notes and putting them on the wall so I can visualise and maybe condense?! GAH. So far I have 24 and I only just started this sticky-note business a week ago. xD
Ana @ Butterflies of the Imagination
Oh, Cait. This post is FABULOUSLY FABULOUS. Or if you prefer it, FRABJOUSLY FRABJOUS. But seriously, this is genius, and I think you categorized the different types of writers really well. Just from looking at the list, I categorized my self as The Shiny Idea Chaser and The Intense Plotter. I have so many ideas it’s ridiculous, and it bothers me that I can’t write all of them right now, at this very moment, hmph. Maybe I could write them quicker if I didn’t feel the need to organize everything and intensely plot out all the books I write. Anyways, your quiz worked extremely well because I got The Intense Plotter. Yay! Oh, and *whispers* I think you accidentally put 2 number 2s. No biggie, but yea…
Cait @ Paper Fury
I WILL TAKE BOTH. IN FACT, HOW ABOUT FABULOUSLY FRABJOUS? YES YES. ha. I'm so glad you like it. 😉 The struggle is real with those Shiny Ideas. ME TOO. I have literally hundreds and I want to write them ALL. And instead I just read another book. HA. I barely ever plot properly though, which kills me when it comes to edits.Omg. *facepalm* That is embarrassing. *goes to fix 2 and 2.
proverbs31teen
I got the Shiny Idea Chaser on the poll. 😉 I think I’m a combination of the Shiny Idea Chaser, the Intense Plotter, and the Multitasker. 😀
Cait @ Paper Fury
Yaaay I'm glad the quiz (semi) works!!
Louise @ Nerdette Reviews
I got The Project Procrastinator, which is so true that it’s almost a bit shameful. I’ve got two short stories to write as assignments, but I only have one idea so I’m putting both of them off until I can get more inspiration >.< But somehow I'll end up writing them both before my deadlines, because I have this weird magical power that I don't understand. Deadlines are sort of a kick in the butt for me, like they're saying "you should really write this thing really soon" and they always end up working. I haven't written anything in a while though, because I've literally exhausted my brain of ideas (both creative and blogging ideas are just gone), but hopefully I'll be able to get my mojo back soon!
Cait @ Paper Fury
*bows to your magical power* I almost never procrastinate the actual writing, but editing? OMG I CANNOT STOP PROCRASTINATING. The struggle is real here. I hope you get bombarded with inspiration soon!!
The Magic Violinist
Oh gosh, if I were picking types to describe me I’d say I’m a mix of the turtle, shiny idea chaser, NaNoWriMoer, project procrastinator, and multi-tasker. Apparently I am Divergent. BUT, according to your super-duper-awesome quiz, I’m the NaNoWriMoer. 🙂 Which is awesome, because I never write that fast or consistently on just one book ever.
I’m thinking about signing up for Camp NaNo! But I am still very confused on how the cabins work and would want to be in the same one as my other blogger friends participating. Do you know how to do that?
Imogen Elvis
Sorry to barge in here, but I think I can help with the whole Camp NaNo cabin thing. If you want to be in a cabin with specific people, you’re going to want a private cabin. Go the drop down ‘Community’ menu and select ‘Cabin Settings’. Then select the option that says ‘I want to create a private cabin.’ Submit that. You’ll be taken to a cabin. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the cabins, but there’ll be a chat box on the left hand side and a thumbnail of your avatar and your username on the right hand side. There’ll also be a bar like a search bar. You’ll be the only person in the cabin. Type or copy your friends’ usernames into that bar. That’ll send them an invite to the cabin through NaNoMail. Then they just have to accept that, and you can all be in a cabin together. this cabin will be opened at once, rather than waiting for the cabin assignations later in the month. And the only people who can join your cabin are the people you invite. Hopefully this helps you a little. I’ll just see myself out of your conversation now *vanishes*
The Magic Violinist
Ahhh, this is so helpful! 🙂 Thank you!
Cait @ Paper Fury
*gives you a shifty eyed Erudite look* BEWARE. WE KNOW WHAT FACTION I COME FROM. Ahem. So yes. Ohhh Imogen's explanation makes SO MUCH SENSE. Because I'm struggling with cabin-y things too, hehe.
Susanna
Great post! I took the quiz and received “intense plotter”, but I think I am also very much a “secretest” too.
Cait @ Paper Fury
YAY I'M GLAD YOU ENJOYED THIS.
Alison's Wonderland Recipes
I had a feeling I was an Intense Plotter, and the quiz agrees! The big hint may have been the fact that I have almost all my blog’s Book of the Month menus planned for this year. I’m especially weird because planning ahead is one of my favorite parts of the writing process. 😉
Cait @ Paper Fury
YOU ARE NOT WEIRD. You are awesome. *nods* I always plan in my head but it very rarely gets on paper, so I don't know if that makes me a plotter or not!? Hehe. Writing is such an adventure.
Vlora
I love this! I got The Shiny Idea Chaser, but I think I’m more a mix of The Turtle and The Procrastinator. I LIKE WRITING, REALLY. 😀 I’m just completely incapable of working on long term projects with anything. I never really have fully fledged (or any) ideas before I start writing, but when I do I suddenly think OH this could be a thing and why am I writing on this when I could actually be writing on this OTHER concept? But I never have DETAILED ideas, and I don’t understand how people can plot a 7 book series and already know what happens in that one scene at the end of book 5. I make everything up as I go along because it’s more exciting for me that way, but of course it rarely ever really comes together. Needless to say I never finished a book. 😀 THIS YEAR THOUGH.
Cait @ Paper Fury
YAY I LIKE WRITING TOO. I just like it a lot. Except the struggle with shiny ideas is soooo haaaaard. I very rarely dump a project for another but I have literally SO MANY IDEAS my skull is bursting. 0_0
Chloe @ The Book Hugger
I got NaNoWriMoer, which really sounds like me. 😀 I work best with deadlines and I love the social aspect of NaNo. Btw, I tweeted about it. 🙂
I kind of think I’m a mixture of these, tbh. This was really fun! You should make more bookish quizzes.
Cait @ Paper Fury
*flails* AHHHH THANK YOU FOR TWEETING THIS. You get cake. EVERYONE GETS CAKE! HUZZAH. Ahem. What was I saying?Oh yes: you are totally a Divergent writer then. 😉
Angelica
haha i took the quiz and got shiny idea chaser – I knew I would though!!! I have so many ideas running around in my head and millions of notebooks and journals and loads of unfinished stories. I need to focus on one!!
Angelica x
http://www.cosybookcorner.blogspot.co.uk
Cait @ Paper Fury
*hi fives for shiny ideas* ME TOO. THAT ONE IS ME.
Skye
Loved this post, I am the shiny idea chaser, which is scarily accurate. I identify with all types though, 😀
Cait @ Paper Fury
I AM A SHINY IDEA CHASER TOO. Although I kind of fit into the Speeder as well. hehe. We are Divergent and cannot be contained. xD
Hawwa [It Was Lovely Reading You]
I’m the turtle and the secretest in my eyes..according to your quiz I’m the Nanowrimo-er[?!]
BASICALLY ALL THE ONES I WISH I WAS I AM NOT.
sigh.
i have never finished a novel Cait. NEVER. and I WANT TO BE AN AUTHOR.
So help.
Cait @ Paper Fury
THEN YOU JUST GOTTA SIT DOWN AND TYPE UNTIL YOUR EYEBALLS BLEED. Ahhaaha. That was gorily weird. Okay. Maybe not. But the “sit down and type” part is very needful. YOU CAN DO THIS, HAWWA. I BELIEVE IN YOU.
Ashana Lian .
This is so fun. XD I can’t figure out what type of writer I am! I feel as though I fluctuate between being three or four different types. O_O However your quiz said I’m an INTENSE PLOTTER. =D That’ll do!!
Cait @ Paper Fury
I don't think I fit in just one either. XD HA. WE JUST CANNOT BE BOXED UP. WE ARE FREEEEE SPIRITS.
Alexandrina Brant
Yes! And love the quiz. I already knew I was The Multi-Tasker and The Turtle, but the quiz gave me the Intense Plotter. Hmm. Not sure about that. 😛
Cait @ Paper Fury
WAH. Quiz Fail! XD It was my first time making one through play buzz so I had noooo idea what I was doing. lol
Elizabeth Anne D.
According to the quiz I’m the Shiny Idea Chaser, but when I was reading through them all and saw The Project Procrastinator, I did a mental face-palm it was so accurate. For example, I really should be writing right now. You know what, I’m just going to go do that and defy my destiny as a procrastinator, so there (-;
This was a great post idea, I love your list posts, they are so awesome and creative!
Cait @ Paper Fury
I just adore that gif for procrastinating. HA. XD *ahem* Aww, I'm glad you enjoyed this post!! IT WAS FUN WRITING.
Kendra E. Ardnek
The quiz gave me NaNo-er, and I suppose it’s accurate, because I love NaNo … but it’s not the end-all, be-all of my writing life. (At least, not anymore … I did get stuck in their forums for several months.) I’ve participated every November for the past five years, won four of them, but I’ve never finished a Camp NaNo, and sometimes don’t even start it.
But I’m also a strong Multitasker. I usually have at least seven or eight word documents pulled up on my computer, and a stack of notebooks sitting next to my desk with my books in some state of finished. I currently only have one up … but that’s because I’m trying to make myself focus on it because it needs to go back to Jack (it’s our co-write).
And, hand in hand with the multitasking, I’m a shiny idea chaser. Just check out my huge list of WIP’s on my blog. It’s … extensive. (Collapses under huge stack of ideas).
Cait @ Paper Fury
Omg, for the last 5 years?! YOU ARE REALLY DEDICATED AND I ADMIRE YOU. hehe. Multitasking is an art and I admire you for THAT too because, sheesh, I cannot multitask. It's one project or my brain melts, which isn't so fun. x) I tried co-writing a book with my sister AND writing one myself. haha. That did not work. -_-
Brianna @ Otakutwins Reviews
I got the NaNoWriMoer hahah, I agree with that but I think I’m more the Shiny Idea Chaser and Multi-Tasker, although all of these could apply haha :D! No seriously, I have way to many idea and not enough time, although I have settled on three out of a thousand ideas 😀 for now…
Cait @ Paper Fury
Omg, you've settled on three out of three thousand? YOU ARE GOOD. I CANNOT SETTLE. XD haha! My brain is like exploding with so many ideas I don't even know what to pick for the April NaNo!!
Jordan @ Dream Big. Dream Out Loud
I got the Intense Plotter on the quiz, which totally suits meXD A few others do, too. Like the NaNoWriMoer and the multi-tasker. I think you pretty much covered all of the types of writers! Loved it!XD
Cait @ Paper Fury
YAAAAAY. I'm glad it was fun. XD
Annie
Oh Cait this post was amazing! I loved reading through all the types of writers although I don’t write very much myself. But I took the quiz and I got, no surprise here, the project procrastinator! I used to be really into writing but then I just procrastinated so much on all my stories that I was too lazy to pick it back up. And now I just don’t have the motivation or inspiration to do it again. But maybe one day I’ll get back into it…
Anyway fabulous post! I honestly marvel at how you think of these great ideas. HOW?? You must share your secrets with me 🙂
Cait @ Paper Fury
HA. MY QUIZ WORKS WONDERS. XD Aw, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I don't know how I think this stuff up…it just happens. x)
Deborah O'Carroll @ The Road of a Writer
I… have actually identified with all of these in some way or another at various times, except the One-Hit Wonder and the Literary Axe-Murderer. (Both of which I don’t understand. Why would anyone write ONLY ONE BOOK? *gasp* AND MAH CHARACTERS ARE MAH BBYS AND YOU MAY NOT KILL THEM AND YOU SHOULD NOT KILL YOURS BECAUSE THEN I WILL BE SAD AND HATE THE BOOK. *cough*)
But yup. Everything else: I am totally there.
I am an intense-plotting, shiny-idea-chasing, multi-tasking, project-procrastinating, nanowrimoing turtle (what? I do NaNo every year even though it doesn’t work for me all year round because I burn out…), who, like the need-for-speeder, writes in bursts with long pauses between (though not in the 10k range. o.o I did 8k once in a day and it MURDERED ME. But 2-or-3k every… y’know… couple weeks. *cough*), and is occasionally secretive and/or possessive about some projects.
THIS POST IS AWESOME THANK YOU <3
Cait @ Paper Fury
(Omg, I do understand being opposed to the Literary Axe-Murderer, although *coughs* I'm rather guilty of that. I tend to end my books with everyone dying, because I figure if it can't be a series, then they should all DIE. Idek, I'm just odd.)AHEM. 10K IS A KILLER, IT REALLY IS. My record is 18K but, honest, I really really hurt myself. haha! I couldn't even blog the next day or anything just because my hands hurt soooo bad. x(
Katie
Gaaahahaa, I love all of these types, Cait! Too true. And as usual, the GIFS…! <3 perfection
Cait @ Paper Fury
Thanks, Katie! XD IT WAS REALLY FUN TO FIND THE GIFS.
Katheline Hansen
I’m definitely a Shiny Idea Chaser/NaNoWriMoer/Project Procrastinator. I would seriously finish NOTHING if it wasn’t for NaNo. XD And the quiz!!!! The quiz was FANTASTIC!!!! It said I was a Shiny Idea Chaser, which is entirely too accurate. XD
Cait @ Paper Fury
NaNo is boss, it really is. Are you doing April?! I've only ever done the November one, but I'm quite excited for April!
Katheline Hansen
I’m definitely doing April! Of course, I tried doing the Camp NaNo’s before and failed miserably every time… but this time will be different. I will be productive this time and actually reach my goal! XD
Precious @ Clockwork Desires
I knew I was The Project Procrastinator before I even took the quiz. The thing is, I have SO many ideas and SO little time. I keep restarting the same book over and over; hopefully, I won’t write myself into a hole this time.
Cait @ Paper Fury
I UNDERSTAND THAT FEELING. When I started writing I literally wrote the same book 5 times in a row and STILL wasn't happy with it. xD
Amanda Winchester
I’m the Shiny Idea Chaser, with a bit of Muti-Tasker thrown in 🙂 hehe, LOVED reading this, and I had no idea there were so many types of writer x
Amanda Winchester ♥ | AmandaSays
Cait @ Paper Fury
Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it! *whispers* Well I made up the “types” of writers, lol. So it's just for fun. 😉
Rcubed
Apparently I’m a NaNoWriMoer even though I don’t even like NaNoWriMo. Haha, I love your quizzes, Cait! You should totally do more of them!
Cait @ Paper Fury
YAY I'M GLAD THEY'rE FUN. Even if it didn't really work for you. heeh. *Glares at quiz* 😉
Jeann @ Happy Indulgence
This post is so much fun Cait, I love to hear about the types of writers out there because I can recognise a few hehe.
Cait @ Paper Fury
SO GLAD YOU ENJOYED IT, JEANN. #daymade
Gabs
I got the shiny idea chaser. Figures, i have like seven in progress stories right now… XD I just rediscovered my love for writing fiction, so I really liked this! Nice post (and quiz!)
Cait @ Paper Fury
There are just TOO many awesome ideas in the universe, right?! I have about 27 books I'd like to write and 3 that I REALLY REALLY want to write asap. It's really hard picking between me babies. x)
Ashley G.
This is cool!
The quiz labelled me the turtle. But I think I might fit better as a mix of a procrastinator and a secretest. I do procrastinate a lot and I rarely share my work unless I think it’s perfect (aka perfect in the moment that I share it, a week later I might regret it). I try to motivate myself by telling myself I need to post snippets soon, which I should at least reach x amount of words and write something at least mildly clever, funny, sad, moving, etc. Letting people read more of my work then just snippets or telling them the “secrets” of the book is a bit adventurous….probably something I should consider soon.
Cait @ Paper Fury
QUIZ FAIL. MY BAD. hehe. Oh I totally understand with that fear of sharing. ME TOO. Although I'm not really a secretest anymore, but I used to be. It killed me the first time I gave my book to my mum to read. BAH. These days my sister is usually the only one who reads my dribble. x)
Briana @ Reader Writer Critic
This was such a fun post! The quiz worked beautifully and gave me results I could actually agree with! Apparently I am a shiny idea chaser…yeah I can’t argue with that, I definitely am. You did a great job of making sure that not all of the answers made it obvious what result they’d create. 🙂
Cait @ Paper Fury
*hi fives* I AM A SHINY IDEA CHASER TOO. OH but I'm glad the quiz worked, because I literally had no idea what I was doing with PlayBuzz. XD
Windsprite
I’ve got “Shiny idea chaser” but I think I’ve become an “Intense Plotter” due to procrastinating. Because, I’ve got a big, yet sturctured bunch of ideas, that I keep overthinking again and again. Like, I live in a few worlds, and I usually write at least in two of them
Cait @ Paper Fury
I TOTALLY RELATE. Right now I have 3 books that are equally plotted and equally loved and I have no idea how to pick between them for my April writing project. The struggle is real.
Leigh @ Little Book Star
haha I’m not surprised that I got the Project Procrastinator. This is def. me when writing my essays. I put it off to the last minute, it’s crazy. I really need to stop lol.
Cait @ Paper Fury
WOOOOT. QUIZ WORKED AGAIN! YAY. xD And I totally understand that feeling. xD
Emma
I am definitely “The Project Procrastinator”. Gah! I wish I wasn’t but there’s just so many blogs to check! So many character deaths to plot! (So maybe I’m also a bit of 8… muahaha.)
The quiz sorted me into “The NaNoWriMo-er” and I identify with that a lot too. Once I do write my books, I write them in a month!
This was a really fun post, thanks for sharing!
Cait @ Paper Fury
Oh you totally have a bit of #8 in you, I SEE THAT. x) But duuuude, I totally relate. I'm trying to edit, but seriously, there are so many books to read and blogs to check and fandoms to flail over. It really is quite a problem. x)
Abbey
Great quiz! I got NaNoWriMoer (which fits me great because four of my five completed novels were written during NaNoWriMo), but there is DEFINITELY some Secretest and Shiny Idea Chaser in there as well.
(By the way, you have to #2s and no #3 in your list. :P)
Abbey
Two, not to…
Cait @ Paper Fury
Oh my gosh *headdesks* I've fixed up the 2 and 3 mistake now. HA. I think I switched them around in the post and forgot to change the numbers. Epic fail. ;-)OH YAY THOUGH! I'm so pleased the quiz worked!
Nova @ Out of Time
I got shiny idea chaser XD but I think I’m more of an intense plotter haha.
I have a 6k word document full of what’s going to happen in my novel. I’ve actually run into a lot of plot holes and awkward pacing which is so annoying because now I have to fix it. Oh well, it works for me! 🙂
Cait @ Paper Fury
I'm a shiny idea Chaser myself… toooo many ideas. But intense plotting is AWESOME. I once wrote a 10K outline. But, um, well, it didn't really work for me and I didn't even finish writing that book. BUT I TRIED. And exactly! Whatever works for us in particular is perfect. *nods*
Tara (T. T. Kesley)
My quiz says I’m the Nanowrimoer, which is totally accurate! When it’s not Nanowrimo and I haven’t got a deadline, I’m totally the procrastinator. There’s a bit of the secretest in me, too! 🙂
Cait @ Paper Fury
I'm so sure there's secretest in us all right?! I freak before I show my work! BUT I DO IT. *awards self cake*
Sharmaine@Bookworm's Avenue
I am totally The Project Procrastinator. Not just in writing though. Generally, I am a procrastinator extraordinaire! Haha. This is some serious problem that I have that I really should get rid of. See? I’m reading your post instead of actually making my assignment right now.
The Intense Plotter and The Turtle writers are a big hit for me! Put them together and a glorious book will be born. *.*
Cait @ Paper Fury
OMG SHAME ON YOU. hehe. Just kidding. 😉 You procrastinate wisely.
Anne @ booksbakingandblogging
Oooh, a quiz! 😀
It says I’m a shiny idea-chaser, which is sort of accurate, but I’m also most definitely a project procrastinator, perhaps even more so than the shiny idea-chaser. I’m also an intense plotter and can at times be a turtle.
I haven’t written anything for ages though. :'( I’ve got this idea for a cool murder mystery in my head, which would also incorporate quite some criticism on society… But I haven’t found the time yet to actually write out my idea in even the teeniest of tiniest of outlines. Oh, and I can’t figure out if it would be better to write it in Dutch or in English. ARGH. The struggle is real.
…I think it’s fair to say I’m a procrastinator :’)
Cait @ Paper Fury
In other words you're completely a Divergent writer and you cannot be controlled or contained. *nods*OH oh I know that feeling. I have so many ideas and there's always just these niggling doubts on what/how to do it. I have a spy book I want to write but I don't know if I can pull it off because SPIES ARE TRICKY. The struggle is real and HUGE. And we should just eat cake and procrastinate. <– Great plan.
Anne @ booksbakingandblogging
YES to cake. ALWAYS yes to cake.
Writefury
Haha! I love it! I’m the multi-tasker. I’m currently working on 4 books, an outline and 4 short stories. XD
Cait @ Paper Fury
I so admire your ability to multitask. YOU ARE SO LUCKY. XD
Writefury
Well, sometimes it gets a little overwhelming when my inner shiny idea chaser comes out. 😛
Lisa Canfield
Um no Im sorry I’m not a NaNoWriMo-er. I am definitely a Shiny Idea Chaser. (do you have any idea how many notebooks I have for different projects… or how many ideas still don’t have notebooks and should. Or how many aren’t quite big enough to need a notebook? … yeah XD)
Cait @ Paper Fury
Omg. Quiz fail. *glares at quiz* I have like an entire WALL of little notes of books I want to write. xD I'm going to blog about it one of these days….
Lisa Canfield
YES DO SO SO I CAN DROOL OVER YOUR AWESOME IDEAS AND DEMAND (nicely) THAT YOU LET ME READ THEM ALL
Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Love this! I am apparently a NaNoWriMoer because I wrote my 50k words for NaNo and then … nothing. I keep thinking I’ll get back to it … maybe next NaNoWriMo?
Cait @ Paper Fury
NO SHAME IN THAT, MY FRIEND. NaNo keeps us motivated! XD I've been editing since November, but really I haven't done anything since. x) My bad.
Emma
That was so awesome! I got shiny idea chaser – totally not what I thought! (Thought I would get the Turtle. XD) Which one are you Cait?
Cait @ Paper Fury
I'm Shiny Idea Chaser aaaand probably a lot of Need for Speeder. I CANNOT PICK ONE AND I MADE THE JOLLY QUIZ. lol
Aine
I’m somewhere between the Shiny Idea-Chaser and the Multi-tasker. A Secretest, too, because no one reads anything I have written until it has been edited to as close as perfect as I can get it. Even then, it’s no one I actually know in real life.
Cait @ Paper Fury
Oh oh I understand that secretest feeling. I really struggle to give anyone anything that's less than perfect. My perfectionist writerly self is very strong.
Mawa Mahima
Oh my days, definitely The Multi-Tasker! I just…just give me all the bookish things, I’ll do it. 🙂
This was awesome though, reading about all the different types of writers!
Cait @ Paper Fury
ALL THE BOOKISH THINGS! HUZZAH! I envy you, though, because I seriously cannot balance two things at once. x) I do one at a time ALWAYS.
Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight
Well. I knew I would be The Project Procrastinator, and your quiz confirmed that for me. But thanks to Ellen DeGeneres for the pep talk! It isn’t even necessarily that I get distracted it’s just that I seriously do not have any time left! I WANT to write, but I need someone to take these small humans off my hands for a few hours or something!
Rochelle Sharpe
Your quiz told me I’m an intense plotter, but that is so not true (sorry), I’m more of a plot as you go type of girl. I am a shiny idea chaser and because of that I am also a multi tasker, it actually feels like a physical pain to only concentrate on one book at a time, which is why I am really slow at getting a draft out.
Great post.
Cait @ Paper Fury
GAH! QUIZ FAIL. *glares at quiz because definitely quiz's and not my fault* 😉 Omg I totally admire you being a multitasker though. I seriously can only focus on one project at a time, although I'm usually thinking/mulling over 3 to 5.
Kat
I’m so late to the party! Sorry about that. I spent a few days away and I come back to a full Bloglovin’ feed. Oh well!
I’m so glad I did get around to reading this though. It’s so perfect. I took the quiz and I’m a NaNoWriMoer. Which suits me just fine. NaNo is the best event of the year so I’m really excited to get this one. Your descriptions fit several people I know. It’s like you based them on them.
Cait @ Paper Fury
Bloglovin has a habit of doing that right?! I think I have like 200 unread posts, but bah, I gave up keeping up. I just read when I can. xD YAY So glad the quiz worked! I had a lot of fun writing this one. 😉
Felicia (asillygirl)
I’m the intense plotter, apparently xD
Cait @ Paper Fury
WELL. The quiz cannot lie, can it? 😉 LOL JUST KIDDING. Thanks for reading!
Sophia
The quiz marked me as The Shiny Idea Chaser, which I would say makes it a rather accurate quiz. That is the category I immediately put myeslf in when I read this post. I have over-enthusiastically-reproducing plot bunnies. And not enough cages or food.
But I do have a bit of the Procrastinator in me as well (what am I saying… a BIT? I meant to say A HECK TON of course). And possibly a teensy hint of the Secreter. Perhaps because my books never get past the first-draft stage. (Ahem, Shiny Idea Chaser.)
Cait @ Paper Fury
Oh you and me both then! Although I have a lot of Need for Speeder in me as well, but there are soooo many ideas. IDEAS EVERYWHERE. *grabs at them and eats them*
Charnell @ Reviews from a Bookworm
Loved the quiz and it was accurate. I read all of them and was immediately like ‘I’M SUCH A SECRETEST!’ and then laughed when the quiz just confirmed that for me. The idea of people reading my work makes me want to die. I even scream if the boyfriend tries to read my notes about the books I’m reading. This is probably why I will never be a published author, haha! Or just one of the many reasons for that.
Cait @ Paper Fury
YAY FOR QUIZ WIN! I'm just glad it worked for most people, hehe, it was my first venture into Playbuzz quizzes. Omg, I totally understand the secretest feeling. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL, MY FRIEND.
acps927
I am definitely a Shiny Idea Chaser and a Project Procrastinator, which is really a bad combo! I’m also a bit of a multi-tasker but not the extreme of your description!
acps927
Just took the quiz, and I am officially a Shiny Idea Chaser, not a surprise!
Cait @ Paper Fury
Haha, that multitasker description was a bit exaggerated, wasn't it? 😉 I totally can't balance more than one thing at once so I ADMIRE YOU A LOT.
Renee Bookboyfriends
GREAT QUIZ!!!! I got: DUN DUN DUUUUN!!!!! The NaNoWriMoer This surprises me. I have never won NaNoWriMo (granted I only participated properly last year once I figured out how to internet) *facepalm*
However, as I was scrolling through your list I kept thinking “omg that’s me!” for EVERY SINGLE ONE!!! I guess I have different writing moods….but I do seem to spend a lot of time on the internet…
Thanks for sharing Cait! xoxo
Sarah Faulkner
This made me laugh! I got the Intense plotted, and right now I’m drafting a 15K outline and have paragraphs about every book in a seven book series. Your quiz was spot on!
~Sarah Faulkner
Aidyl
Um, sadly the test was not correct for me. :-/ It says I’m the Secretest and I’m currently sharing my story on my blog… So yeah. Not quite fitting. 🙂 I think I’m the Multi-Tasker. I *am* just focusing on one story right now, so yay! (Let’s not think about the fact that it’s the first time in years that I’ve only been working on one book…)
Alyssa
I think I am almost all of these. When I took the quiz, I got The Turtle, which I think is pretty accurate considering I’ve been writing the same book for four years. However, I am do have a ton of ideas and am totally a shiny idea chaser. A lot of plotting also goes into my stories. The quiz was great!
Olivia
Glad to see you liked The Winner’s Crime! I am currently reading the first book in that series (I know, I know, I am behind xD)
Ooh, I love this list! I am the Shiny Idea one, and also the author with an axe in her hand. I am writing a terrorist related story, okay? People have to die! Although sometimes it breaks my own heart as well :’) I also feel like a multi-tasker. Currently writing three novels at once 😉
Hanna
Reading your post, I was thinking, “Yeah, I’m half turtle, half shiny idea chaser. And maybe I’m a bit need for speeder too.” But then your quiz tells me I’m an intense plotter. I don’t know what to believe any more. 😉
P. S. I have 119 drafts for my blog (and most of them aren’t even half done), so don’t worry that you have a problem. 🙂
Cait @ Paper Fury
Ooops my quiz had a bit of a fail there, did it?! XD Omg 119?! I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER WITH MY 50. HEH.
Christina @ theotherside
I got the Intense Plotter in the quiz, but I’m also a NaNoWriMoer and a Multitasker. 🙂 What I love about your ten types is that, other than maybe the procrastinator, they’re all so positive! If you plot intensely — good for you, your stories are super organized and detailed! If you have tons of ideas — good for you, you’re bursting with creativity! No one should feel inferior or embarrassed because their creative style is different from someone else’s — everybody writes how they write!
Cait @ Paper Fury
Thanks, Christina! I COMPLETELY agree. There's no “One way” to write, after all, eh?!!
Kelly @ Dancing Through the Pages
I got the Project Procrastinator which is totally correct. Just add in, “Forgets to write due to other commitments but occasionally writes 5000 words.”
farzy @ books keep me sane
I took the quiz and got The NaNoWriMoer which is SO accurate. Right now I’m prepping for Camp Nano this April. 😀
Cait @ Paper Fury
YAY!! Good luck for NaNo!! (And I'm glad the quiz worked! SQUEE. *happy dance*)
Heather
Hm, the quiz told me I was an Intense Plotter but I feel like I actually am like that in tandem with the #2: Shiny Idea chaser. Even so, these are rather spot on and I know people can mix and match their preferences to make a very unique writer! 😀
Annie Hawthorne
Have I commented on your blog before? I can’t remember if I’ve commented on your blog before. *waves* Hello, fellow human!
This post made my writerly heart happy. ^_^ Your quiz was spot-on! I’m the Shiny Idea Chaser (IDEAS ARE LIKE FIREFLIES, SERIOUSLY) with a generous dash of Procrastinator. Unfortunate combination. O.o Hey, at least, life is fun. 😉
(Apparently, I have a thing for discovering old blog posts and spazzing because THEY ARE PRETTY AND NEW TO ME. MUST COMMENT. Ahem.)
Cait @ Paper Fury
*waves* HELLO TO YOU TOO, FELLOW HUMAN!!! IT'S NICE TO *MEET* YOU. XDDIdeas totally are like fireflies. GAH. They're beautiful and they burn. haha.
Joan Albright
I’m a Multi-Tasker who drafts in NaNoWriMo mode and edits like a Turtle. Current projects: 3.
Ashana Lian .
I laughed so much reading this! Especially the Shiny Idea Chaser
Sapphire
I am 2, 7, and 10 sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo badly that it is scary alittle bit of 8
Imran Soudagar
To be honest, I am a procrastinator. I procrastinate a lot and end up not writing. But over the years, I have written many stories but I have not been able to complete most of them. Procrastination is a huge problem.
Cait @ Paper Fury
I do understand ;D I don’t procrastinate the first draft but….gahhh I really struggle to edit and rewrite things!!
Whitney
Hello. I taken the quiz. I’m considered as the turtle. I have wrote one non-fiction story. I have many ideas for stories. My weakness in writing is descriptive. I’ll take courses in how to improve that. I enjoyed the questions. It makes me question on which type of writer fits me.
Grace Osas @ Somewhat Reserved
I’m the Shiny Ideas Chaser and The Project Procrastinator. Bad combo xD I so weird. But I got Shiny Ideas Chaser in the quiz
Kate Marie
I’m 1, 2, 6, and nine. And yes, I obsessively follow your links to old posts because I can’t get enough of them. 🙂
Penguin
I’m the turtle (so true)
Melissa
I’m a complete multi-tasker though I do enjoy participating in NaNoWriMo for the deadline push. I’m constantly working on multiple projects in different phases from outlining to editing and rewriting. Don’t think I’d know what to do with just one project at a time.
grant carrington
I tested as the Shiny Idea Chaser. I wish that were true! I haven’t had any ideas in over a year! (I also did the Personality Test, which also didn’t seem very descriptive of the me I think I am.)
Madison Brown
I am deeeeefinitely the turtle! XD
http://www.madisontaylor.co
Jackie
Good ol’ Turtle 😅
Awesome quiz. It was super enlightening to read about all the different writing styles and habits of myself and others.
Now I’ll be moving steadily along. 🚶
Sarah
According to the quiz, I am a Turtle. However I would consider myself a one-hit-wonder. I enjoy several hobbies. I have a tendency to, once I am satisfied with a project and deem it finished, to start something in a completely different area and not look back. Hence the ” been there done that mentality. “
Lynn
I’m a pantser and mult-tasker.
