If you’ve read The Boy Who Steals Houses…chances are it made you very very hungry.
Look, my books exist to make you cry and make you fiercely crave whatever food my characters are obsessing over. And if I feature a food in my books, there’s a 90% chance it’s because I, personally, was eating it a lot while writing. (I’m really that imaginative. I KNOW.)
In The Boy Who Steals Houses (which has been out 4 months now!) there are whole scenes dedicated to the devouring of caramel brownies and/or waffles, as is the De Lainey special. We are not sure if Sam was in love with the De Laineys or the habit of feeding him. Understandable. 😌He is precious.
So I was so so stoked when my friend Alison Walsh (author of A Literary Tea Party cookbook!) agreed to invent a recipe based off The Boy Who Steals Houses!
And today I get to share it with you. I am just !!!! 😍 THIS excited. 😍
I’m also going to be giving away a copy of her cookbook so 👀 keep reading.
Last year she also created a recipe for A Thousand Perfect Notes, featuring August’s almond fruitcake (which my family still gushes over with enamoured delight because it’s just that good). So Alison is a gift to my life and I cannot be more grateful. I hope you’ll go follow her blog and see all the incredible bookish recipes she shares!
Thank you so so so much Alison!! ✨😘
Moxie’s Caramel Brownie Waffles
by Alison Walsh (author of A LITERARY TEA PARTY)
Makes 9 mini waffles
1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
3 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tsp vanilla
¾ cup flour
¾ cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
Whipped cream, caramel sauce, and sprinkles (for garnish)
- In a medium saucepan, heat the butter on medium-high heat until boiling. Pour into a large mixing bowl. Whisk in the sugar with a fork until well combined. Using a hand mixer, beat in the eggs and vanilla on medium speed until smooth.
- Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir with a spoon until well combined.
- Pour ¼ cup batter onto a waffle iron heated to the lowest setting (do not grease the waffle iron). Close lid and cook for 2 minutes. Gently transfer to a serving plate when finished.
- Repeat Step 3 for remaining batter.
- Top waffles with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and candy sprinkles. Serve warm to a crowd of hungry De Laineys!
